Reports coming our we made a late bid of £82 million for Lemar which was seriously considered but then rejected.

Can anyone confirm this?

It's no matter now, window is closed. That ship has sail and we wasn't on it.

02 Sep 2017 01:45:46
I'll confirm it if no one else will 🙋🏼‍♂️.

01 Sep 2017 23:21:53
Could be interesting how coutinho situation plays out in next week to ten days. Will we hear from him or his representatives saying he wished for a dream move to Barcelona but no fee agreed so now will giv his all to lfc? Will he jus say he dissapointed a move never materialised and he still injured and not available for selection by lfc? Will we even hear from him at all? I'm. not sure when Brazil play again but I think it could be a very awkward situation when he back at Kenwood. As ed002 said earlier he made it clear he didn't want to play for lfc again and he dislikes klopp! This pantomime could get worse if we don't tread carefully.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

02 Sep 2017 00:08:14
He can hardly claim still injured, otherwise he will cause issues between Brazil and Liverpool and stick himself in the middle of those, would just be digging himself into a bigger hole.

02 Sep 2017 00:09:04
If he is genuinely not happy we should have took £130+ million and let him go, replacement or not. He is a very good player but we paid £8 million for him. I'd sooner play a youngster in the role and take the cash. We have a good amount of midfielders and have coped without him.

Baz.

02 Sep 2017 00:13:09
that’s assuming he does come back haha.

02 Sep 2017 00:42:50
I think that's why Klopp stood back from the saga, and probably told Coutts to sort it out with the clubs hierarchy.

That way at least Klopp can say, now that its sorted to Couts to come back and concentrate on the football side of things.

Great management if it happened that way.

02 Sep 2017 03:53:23
As much as he is probably totally pissed off, this is a World Cup year so he doesn't really have much choice other than to knuckle down and play his hardest. I don't have too many issues with him wanting to make that move as Barcelona and Real are on another level but it does continue to test the strength of legally binding contracts.

Pool decided to dig their heals in figuring with 1. no buyout clause, 2. delaying the Saurez move a year and 3. World Cup in June, they had a pretty strong hand. Net result, we get him for one more year. It has the potential to be a really good year, hopefully challenging for the title and worst case securing CL again, maybe last 8 in CL (too optimistic? ) and possible deep runs in the domestic cups.

02 Sep 2017 05:36:00
There's already a large boo brigade always ready to pile on the sh*t on to Fsg's head the moment there's a misstep. Can anyone imagine the outrage and outcry if Coutinho had been allowed to leave without being replaced? The club tried, but couldn't find a replacement. I always say "take the money and run", but in this case "take the money and run next summer" is a better option.

02 Sep 2017 08:30:37
LFC picked a good time to stand up to Barcelona as they may be a little weak since Neymar saga. I'd bet the surprise of not getting their man in spite of all the games pkayed with it has put them on the back foot a little now.

01 Sep 2017 22:16:42
ffs he (AOC) has'nt kicked a ball for us yet give him a chance! i believe klopp will make him a better player. also he is young and hungry and a liverpool fan so he will give everything for years to come!

Believable9 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2017 01:36:16
Don't worry mate. Most of our new signings get stick before they kick a ball. Everyone here is far more astute at football management than Klopp.

02 Sep 2017 03:38:18
Yeah remember Victor Moses, rubbish for us but a great little player for Chelsea. let's give Ox a go it may just work out!

01 Sep 2017 22:14:21
The window was a little disappointing in the end. Expectations were high with VVD and Lemar but it wasn't to be. I think if we had gotten those 2 we would have been up there with the Manchester clubs competing for the title. Now I think, it's another year trying to finish 4th. Anyway time to get behind the Manager and players and hope for the best.

Believable4 Unbelievable9

01 Sep 2017 22:43:45
Are you kidding me?! We have just destroyed yes destroyed our closest rivals for 4th spot. We are contenders with or without VVD don't you worry about that. The way people talk you'd think VVD was the best defender ever to walk the earth! Plus if we'd got Lemar the Coutinho would be holding up a Barcelona shirt on Sly Sports News right this very moment so it's arguable that we've not missed out there either. We got a decent left back who could turn out to be brilliant, Mo Salah, Englands brightest young striking talent, Naby F@cking Keita and stole AOC from Arsenal AND Chelsea! AND we kept Coutinho! I suppose we should've signed Neymar and Mbappe eh?

02 Sep 2017 00:14:13
I agree,
But of all the positions on the pitch, the CB one in our case was the most important one to bolster.

The spine of the team being strong is paramount to achieving sustainable results on a season long basis.
And i've always been told you build the spine from the back.

02 Sep 2017 00:32:16
We didn't get everyone we wanted, but I'm glad we were more picky this summer as it's far from wise to allow panic to dictate your decisions. We did reasonably well, and got Naby Keita for next year. If we can keep everyone fit and get Coutinho back on the pitch I'd say we are in fine fettle.

Despite the negativity on here I think AOC will prove to be a very useful signing IF he can stay fit, definitely an upgrade on Milner. Salah is doing well so far and Robertson has shown that he too is a good option, great crosser of the ball. Moreno is resurgent and had a really good game against Arsenal, whether he can maintain that remains to be seen of course. Solanke has come in and effectively displaced Origi. For the first time in a while we don't just have a good first 11, but a decent level of squad depth with a wide variety of qualities.

02 Sep 2017 01:22:28
Arsenal are hardly our closest rivals for 4th spot. That would be Spurs and Chelsea. Arsenal are a mess and we will see them getting thumped like that quite often this season. It was a good team performance by us against Arsenal, but not a spectacle as everyone claims it to be.

01 Sep 2017 21:56:15
Be interesting to see if Coutinho is in out CL squad which I beleive needs to be announced tonight.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

01 Sep 2017 22:17:26
Oh yeah good shout that.

01 Sep 2017 22:37:01
We named him in our Premier League squad, so I cannot imagine we'll leave him out of the CL squad.

01 Sep 2017 22:41:47
Of course he will be.

01 Sep 2017 22:44:05
I don't want him in the team now for the simple reason he doesn't want to be there. I'd take 100% effort from a kid who wants to bust a gut for us than someone who clearly doesn't want to be there. Maybe I'm being foolish because we are better with him but a part of me wishes he was gone even without a replacement. Im changing my opinion now. I didn't want him sold but he didn't care less during the cl qualifying stages. There's players in the squad who want to give their all for us.

01 Sep 2017 23:15:25
I'm with you Twinkle, to feign injury and miss the most important 2 games we've had for years in unforgivable. No matter whether he wanted to go to Barcelona or not he owes us loyalty as we got him to where he is. He's an ungrateful little pr@ck who should never have the privilege of pulling on a Liverpool shirt again. Problem is you know he will and when he scores the winner at OT we'll all love him again. Try not to think about it too much mate.

01 Sep 2017 23:20:47
Don't be so quick to judge Coutinho please. His head was turned by Barca, that's understandable; the lad loves our club despite that and the best thing to do for everybody is to welcome him back with open arms. Giving him stick is senseless, you haven't forgotten the many tremendous memories he's given us already have you? He's a young kid with several people not brainwashing him, but telling him what's best for him. Not easy for the lad.

02 Sep 2017 00:17:21
Rhyl, RTP on Coutinho and you'll see why he deserves it.

02 Sep 2017 01:08:47
His head weren't turned he went after them.

02 Sep 2017 01:24:42
Rhyl Red, young kid?
He is a grown 25 year old man with a wife and daughter. He earns 150k a week. Young kid really? There is something seriously wrong with this world if we keep making petty excuses like that for multi millionaires that are spoilt brats and kick up a fuss just because things don't go the way they want every time.

02 Sep 2017 04:38:22
I honestly was willing to have him back with open arms until he played on thursday. Coutinho was willing to show to everyone that he really wasn't injured and didn't care enough for the club or fans to make himself available for selection.
I know he had his heart set on a move and I'm not sure if he would have been cup tied if he had played against Hoffenheim and then moved to Barca, but I genuinely now believe he had hoped that we wouldn't have made the group stage.

01 Sep 2017 21:54:52
Anyone see Robertson's goal for Scotland vs Lithuania? Top class finish.

01 Sep 2017 21:45:27
Hello eds, great info from macca and you guys! certainly a little bit of disappointment for VVD not coming.

But do you think we could go back for him in the next 2 windows since he seems to be the main man for klopp, as well for Lemar?

Thanks in advance! Cheers.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Possibly.}

01 Sep 2017 21:52:31
Great! Hope is soon enough. what do you think fellow red's?

01 Sep 2017 21:59:06
Coutinho still has 4 years after this season. We wouldn't sell for 150 mil, I doubt we will next year. He didn't even make a compromise. And give us this year on a promise for next year. he's been an utter tit. he's ours for the remainder of his deal for me.

Vvd next year. Sorted.

01 Sep 2017 22:14:01
I think coutinho goes next summer. But, if we can get Lemar in January he's off that same window.

Depends on the relationship with Mr. Klopp.

01 Sep 2017 22:31:53
Couts goes as soon as we can get a replacement in.

02 Sep 2017 00:17:38
There's a new TV rights bidding war coming up. So expect prices to keep rising,

02 Sep 2017 01:25:53
Coutinho will go the moment we sign Lemar or another alternative. I just hope FSG stump up the cash next time for Lemar. The kid's going to be world class in a couple of years and more than good enough to fill Coutinho's shoes.

01 Sep 2017 21:30:27
Serious question - Why are majority of the international matches so boring? As an example, watching England today and Uruguay and Argentina yesterday, these are teams with talented individuals playing at top clubs but in an international match, its so lackluster. Is it mostly down to the managers managing international teams, or are players just much more cautious and less adventurous, trying to keep it safe, when playing for their country?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 22:02:48
Overrated players expected to offer more than they do.

Look at that team. It's just average. Really is. The players there compared to other couentries is rediculous and ours are compared on the same level.

You look at young players coming through. Sterling and Bernardo. Barkley and asensio. Rashford and mbappe. Ours can't lace there boots.

Yet we talk of them in the same breath and expect the same from them.

We are probably for the foreseeable future a quarter final team. That's about it in any tournament but we are in no way shape or form anything other than that. Oh and that's probably a push.

01 Sep 2017 22:04:04
They don't play enough together and play for different teams who employ different tactics. It reminds me of getting round for a kickabout with your not too close mates every 2 months.

But then you do have Germany. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I recall reading a long time ago about Klinsman helping to push the idea forward of having the German club teams playing a similar style of football that the German national team play. This way tactically its not hard to adapt at International level. Either I read an article along the lines of this or I dreamt it up!

01 Sep 2017 22:30:03
TopBusiness- He's saying international football not just England.

01 Sep 2017 22:33:07
The quality of international football is nothing compared to that of club. I used to watch England just because Obviously I couldn't watch Liverpool but It really doesn't interest me anymore.

02 Sep 2017 00:04:11
Hate internationals, waste of a footy weekend, national teams just dint cut it anymore, shame really.

02 Sep 2017 00:18:43
Does that make what I said any less accurate.

02 Sep 2017 07:58:18
TopBusiness- It might be accurate, although I don't see anyone comparing those players you've mentioned but we are talking about international football on a whole being boring so it's irrelevant.

01 Sep 2017 20:58:15
Our main problem in defence, which I'm sure has been mentioned before, was our fullbacks bombing forward leaving the centre halves isolated. Plus when the FB's went forward they offered nothing.

With the acquisition of Robertson and the emergence/ resurgence of TAA, Gomes and Moreno our FB's now offer width and decent delivery. We now look more solid at the back baring individual errors.

This window has been a success in my opinion with some brilliant purchases. Really looking forward to the season ahead.

01 Sep 2017 21:34:52
Not far off mate and I'm a glass half empty kinda guy usually lol.
We can't always get what we want, but I have absolutely no doubt we'll address the CB situation next summer as Klavan may well move on (might even sign 2 CBs then) .

We got in 3 British players too in this window which will help.
Not sure if Robertson is considered HG (don't think he is unfortunately) .
Cahmberlain, Solanke and Robertson are yet to realise their respective potentials as well.

But the icing on the cake for me is that Salah and Chamberlain who both rejected us a few years ago are now seeing us as the place to be.
Van Dijk too seemed keen, Keita is coming next summer and seemed to have other offers on the table, even Lemar (if you believe certain journalists) seemed to be dying to come - very positive.
Klopp is one of the factors for it I have no doubt, the fans in the stadium are another (not the whiny ones lol) .

01 Sep 2017 21:44:05
I've been saying that since the start of last season Gordy. The fullbacks push right up play the ball inside because they can't go past anyone and lose the ball then we get broken on and they are straight at the centre backs. Don't get me wrong Lovren keeps shooting himself in the foot too but with a bit more cover from the full backs hopefully his confidence will increase and he'll make better decisions. He was good at Southampton we just need him to get back to that.

01 Sep 2017 22:26:17
The fullbacks getting forward has nothing to do with the other team whipping corners in and looking like scoring almost every time.

01 Sep 2017 22:32:04
We don't look more solid! have you watched any games this season? we look worse if anything, Moreno is a liability.

01 Sep 2017 23:08:26
We look worse? Really?

02 Sep 2017 00:12:12
Biggest problem is and remains that too many players completely switch off at key times. One improvement is that one of the most regular offenders is out injured at present.

01 Sep 2017 19:56:13
Why is it that so many are calling AOC average when he has not even featured under Klopp yet?

Many a player has looked average under Wenger.

Believable13 Unbelievable3

01 Sep 2017 20:29:42
Yeah, the same manager that has gained top 4, bar last season for years and has spent a hell of a lot less than Liverpool over the same period. Not bad with all those "average" players.

01 Sep 2017 20:34:27
Another utility player to warm the bench.

Grujic and Woodburn need the chances he would be expected to get along with Can.

We can't blame anyone.

You must have heard the story of Grijic's dad stealing his passport to avoid the move to LFC.

Hope if he had wise men advising, he would not have come here to rot.

Good thing is AOC took pay cut to be here which is very rare. Appreciate him for that but fact is he is another avg in our books.

01 Sep 2017 20:55:04
and the same people who wrote off andy robertson before he even played a minute for us, who was man of the match on his debut for us and has just scored a beauty for scotland. I'm not AOC biggest fan but he has indeed been in an underperforming and over relaxed arsenal squad for the last 6 years and i do think that playing for klopp at his boyhood team could see him become a really good squad player for us and not just a benchwarmer. there is undoubtedly ability in him as there is in every top level footballer, its just a matter of getting it out of him.

01 Sep 2017 20:55:42
Irish, you're joking right? Arsenal are a shambles cos now, they actually have to compete with two clubs that they did not have to deal with in the recent past: LFC snd Spurs. Both teams have better players and a better manager than Arsenal and once the going got tough, they have wilted under the challenge. Arsenal is yet to beat both LFC and Spurs since 2015. Why? Cos this is the year that both Klopp and Poch arrived at both clubs. That is no coincidence.

Apart from Sanchez, NO other player (not even Ozil) will start at either clubs and that is down to the job both managers are doing while Arsenal (Le Dictateur as they now call him) is still coaching in the stoneage with bang awful players who couldn't be arsed to run 10 yards during a game or are happy with stealing a living on the bench like Walcott.

01 Sep 2017 21:29:05
I like grujic he needs sum confidence few goals jus too settle down he has quality an could be very important for us in future.

01 Sep 2017 21:29:21
Bingored. I think you will find that Spurs have done pretty well in the league in the "recent past"

Tell me, how many trophies have Poch and Klopp won between them since they joined their teams? Its not too hot even when you add them both together. What i do know is that Arsenal with their one good player (Sanchez) have won 3 trophies in 4 years. Better than us and Spurs with their "average" players.

01 Sep 2017 21:32:54
Can someone knock round for Mr Dennis? He's not on this thread and I fear he's had an accident.

01 Sep 2017 21:38:32
Got to Support the ox now he wears the shirt. my only concern is klopps style destroys players and ox ain't the most durable of players he already has a big injury record i hope its all in the past as we already have enough injurys over last few years.

01 Sep 2017 21:41:33
To be fair, I think Bellerin, Cech, Sanchez and PISSIBLY Monreal (instead of Moreno come on) would get into LFC's side right now. Can't speak for Spurs as I can't stand watching them.

01 Sep 2017 21:54:31
Ballerin looks half the player he did. Monreal is just awful. Robertson's better.
Cech and Sanchez only for me. Wenger success came from when he was only competing with utd. as for cup wins. Gerrard houllier won 5 trophies in a year but failed in the league so went. rafa won a champions league. you can win trophies with a average team. the league goes not lie. Wenger should go for the good of arsenal. do you arsenal fans not realise that every other clubs fans rejoiced when Wenger signed a new contract as it effectively ended their challenge for 2 years.

01 Sep 2017 22:34:20
People need to reign it in, Robertson has played one game against an awful palace side and has now scored against Lithuania and people think he's Ashley Cole!

01 Sep 2017 23:04:17
Exactly Cobra. As soon as he has a bad game, watch the critics on here rip him. He's now being judged as better than Monreal after one game. You couldn't make this sheet up lol.

02 Sep 2017 04:56:52
I think we've had players surprise us before. Many times we've had players that are not extremely talented endear themselves to the fans because of their application and willingness to give their all for the shirt. Effort and determination should never be disregarded and I only hope we get that from AOC.
I distinctly remember how Lucas was slated when he began his Liverpool career, and while he was never the most talented or technically gifted, he worked hard and most of us grew to love him. Personally, I was devastated when he injured his knee against Chelsea, I think it was when Kenny was manager. In the end he had a 10 year LFC career when few gave him a chance to last more than 1 season.

The lesson to be learnt is to be patient and give each new player an opportunity to prove and improve.

02 Sep 2017 16:55:05
Monreal is terrible. not judging Robertson better on basis of one game. Judging it on monreal being a awfully overrated player lol.

02 Sep 2017 23:08:56
Okay mate. I'll take your word for it lol. 😆.

03 Sep 2017 20:10:43
Have you seen him recently.

01 Sep 2017 19:52:48
Firstly thanks Eds I really enjoyed being addicted to the site. Secondly big thanks to FSG for getting our club improved financially and allowing us to position ourselves closer to the top table. I truly believe the intent was there and let's remember you can only spend it once (remember how we have wasted money before) . We are well set up for the next window.
I also believe our defence is not that bad, check our stats for the last 10 prem games and take into account a rusty start. I am actually excited about the Ox. I would rather a good player joined and became great than arrived with hype and dissapointed.
Oh and thanks to the eds for posting my largely irrelevant posts during the window. Have a great weekend.

If Cazorla was fit I'd have him in the team. Pure quality that fella and no surprise to me Arsenal have been faltering since he's been injured so much. Twice the player Ozil is in my humble opinion.

02 Sep 2017 08:01:20
Carzola is very underrated but injuries have taken there toll on him.

Just about to watch Malta versus England where is Rooney? If he had continued his England Career he would of been in Malta last night instead of the " Nick" oh well as they say " when one CELL door closes another one opens "

P. S. I heard that when he arrived home this afternoon he went to see Coleen who was in the bedroom with his HANDCUFFS still on and she said its a bit too early for that Wayne?

On the assumption that he isn't sold tonight, can anyone see Coutinho, or Alexis Sanchez for that matter, do a Diego Costa and have an extended break on South America?

Believable3 Unbelievable5

01 Sep 2017 21:03:44
I don't see it. Cou is not that type of guy and his team mates love him regardless. Sanchez is diff. as his own team mates want him gone due to his attitude and slagging them off on the pitch with the whole world watching. Costa has a personal issue with Conte and both can't stand each other so that is a lot of male pride going on there. Can't really see a way out for Costa really.

01 Sep 2017 23:26:47
Couts is not that kind of guy? What does he have to add to his recent list of indiscretions to say he is that kind if guy?

There's a great article by Simon Hughes in today's Irish Independent that recounts a story from 2012 when Pep Segura ago fell out with John Henry and FSG.

For those of you who don't know who Pep Segura is - in 2012 he was Liverpool's Acadamy technical manager and now he is Barcelona's general manager overseeing player recruitment.

The story "goes some way towards explaining why Barcelona were so forceful in their attempt to sign Philippe Coutinho but ultimately, why their attempt will prove not to be quite forceful enough".

I'm unable to post the link here, but it's worth looking it up to read.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

01 Sep 2017 19:09:53
I read about that this this morning. He said he was hung out to dry by FsG coz Brendan Rodgers didn't want a DOF after Comolli was sacked. Bet he's even more annoyed that FSG have got the better of him once again haha.

01 Sep 2017 19:13:06
Read this this morning and inciteful article into the roll of Rodgers in the troubles with our policies.

01 Sep 2017 19:15:18
It's utter BS in my opinion for one.
Trying to make a story out of nothing.
As if Segura has a vendetta against Liverpool/ FSG because a job he was promised was denied to him in the end.
I don't even slightly buy this "story".
So he would risk his current job, probably the pinnacle of his career, to get one over on John Henry with multi millions involved.
Thinks about it, it's just poor journalism and a fabrication really with some facts spliced in to make it look more feasible.

01 Sep 2017 20:30:56
Agreed, but maybe the journalists are thinking the same thing some of us laymen are thinking. Which is, how does a club start at 72million and then go more than double to 160million (supposed figures) within 2 months. Or the journalists are fabricating the numbers also, in which case its all bogus from beginning to end. Same thing happened with Lemar. Arsenal started the summer with a bid of 31million and see it justified to go all the way up to 95million on deadline day? Can't you argue that Wenger was trying to get one over Lfc for snaring the Ox perhaps, in the same way Segura was supposedly trying to get one over Fsg? Would be really interesting to know the true inside story.

01 Sep 2017 21:22:01
What did we offer for Andy Carroll first 6 years ago?
I believe it was about £15m or so.
That went to in and around double that.
It's low-balling, LFC are experts at it if you believe everything you read. :)

02 Sep 2017 08:02:54
We offered that for Carroll because that was all he was worth and then they bumped the price because being held to ransom after the Torres money.

This isn't as odd as sounds. Warren Gatland was ousted from the Irish rugby job 16 years ago, he still very noticeably bears a grudge about it now. Some peopke harbour grudges.

The question I would throw in is could a club throw in a late bid, with no intention of compketing the signing, but by doing that they are causing a distraction that means another team can't get the deal done.

01 Sep 2017 18:51:52
Can we accept a bid for lil Philly now for the reported £150m, then send Lazar over to Barcelona in Van Dijk's private plane to complete the medical, accept terms and meet the Spanish media etc.

In all honesty though, if we're not going to use Markovic this season, I hope he gets a loan/ permanent move to Spain tonight before their window closes.

What is the structure of the Keita deal, does anyone know? Is it just an agreement that we are going to buy him on 1st of July 2018? If so, could the deal have happened at any time over the next year, or do we actually hold his registration? I've never heard of a deal like this one before.

On a similar note, does Can actually have an agreement in place with Juve for next year as reported? I would be surprised if Liverpool had given them permission to speak considering we are trying to get him to sign a new contract.

Am a bit confused.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Leipzig hold his registration so there is no loan. Liverpool has agreed to buy the player for a fixed amount next summer.

Can is not allowed to sign any agreement with Juventus until January 2018, so no.}

01 Sep 2017 21:13:56
Cheers Ed. So the Keita deal could basically have been agreed at any time over this season? Is this type of deal common? Never heard of it happening before.

{Ed002's Note - yes it is reasonably common. Sule and Rudy are recent examples.}

01 Sep 2017 18:34:24
Quick question for Ed002 if you're about mate, not entirely Liverpool related but as it's to do with FFP it affects all of us. I know you have explained in depth numerous times but reading fifa to investigate PSG, I was under the impression that the books have to be more or less balanced over a three year period, obviously your knowledge is far greater than mine in this topic but surely if they are investigating on the basis of the neymar signing and the mbappe signing after the loan, their investigation is quite pointless now as they have three years to balance these signings? Apologies if I'm way off the mark and I've missed something, I know how busy you've all been recently so didn't want to waste your time with stupid questions, I just thought if that's the basis of their investigation, they're three years too early?

As always, thanks for your time and all the work all eds put in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No the books are presented at the end of each season. The three years relates to a rolling three year period during which income provided by the owners can be provided in addition to allowable income the club generates. So the three years is (2015, 2016, 2017), then (2016, 2017, 2018) then (2017, 2018, 2019) etc.. What that means is that a club started this season all square with previous years and go up to the €30M allowed this summer then in 2018 and 2019 they cannot have a deficit.}

The only investigation that FIFA are involved with right now is regarding Barcelona's refusal to pay a bonus fee that is supposedly due to Neymar's father. It was this that the Spanish FA were talking about when the transfer was happening and it is nothing to do with FFP. In terms of the transfer, it is the FFP accounts that FIFA will look to - but they are not due untl next June. By then PSG need to show enough additional income to cover the transfer and the overall wages at the club (which may be more of an issue and they did not sell as many as hoped for this summer). They will look for assured sales by June 30 next summer to eventually avoid possible sanctions (the same was true with a number of sides this year (e.g. Inter and Roma who had the season before been fined and warned for breaches of FFP (as had a number of other sides).

So for PSG the transfer fee problem is going to be eased by additional income - a big boost in the shirt deal is likely, other related commercial deals - and sales. The wages problem is far harder to fix and no doubt they will be worried about that. Mbappe means they go through these hoops again next summer.}

01 Sep 2017 19:07:44
Ed would it be safe to say psg will be looking to ship out a few more in January. Or even today? Is the Spanish window the last major one to close?

{Ed002's Note - The Spanish window is the last major one to close in Europe. They will look to sell in January if they can.}

01 Sep 2017 19:31:37
Thanks Ed, sly sports were reporting that Fifa are looking into it now, that's why I thought I'd ask, much clearer now, cheers mate.

01 Sep 2017 18:42:34
Firstly and foremostly, a BIG Thank You to all the Ed's who do a fabulous job running this site. A big selfless act indeed!
Overall, I think we did fine in this transfer window. As Ed002 pointed out in one of his earlier replies, AOC was a strange one, but having said that our recruitment policy has been significantly better since the bespectacled naughty charmer took over, so we will have to wait and watch. On that note, I wanted to get the thoughts of the Ed's and fellow posters on using Ox purely on the wings? I know he would like to play CM, but I think he possesses all the qualities to play on the wings and might infact do pretty well there (one of the front 3) - pace, strength, directness, and decent dribbling/ crossing/ shooting abilities. I could be wrong, but get a feeling with our team setup for counter attacking, he could do well in that setup and score a few too and may I dare say, have an impact similar to Salah/ Mane. Do the Ed's and posters see this or do you guys think that he would be just average regardless of the position he plays?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he is average for me abbasep, i dont think hes a bad player but my concern would be where does he fit in?, if mane or salah get injured i suppose hes a half decent stop gap but he has said he wanted game time and i just bcant see him getting it mate..

01 Sep 2017 19:03:10
Rotation - he can play in pretty much all positions except GK, DM and CB.
He will get plenty of games, especially if we qualify out of our CL group in the top 3 positions.
I'm more concerned with our defense - I watched Lovren's "highlights" on YouTube last night to make myself feel better, not feeling better now lol.
Reckless sliding tackles, poor marking and he is sloooow.
But we need to support what we have and we will.
He was part of the squad that got us into the CL so let's get behind them.

01 Sep 2017 19:11:21
Where Aoc is concerned I think if klopp can get the squad playing the same way no matter the starting 11 he will a manager who is going to rotate players quite a bit. We've already seen Salah not start the 2nd game of the season. When we have more players back rotation will be a thing we have to deal with. Hopefully it works out.

01 Sep 2017 20:51:53
i agree. I think he's perfect for rotation with the way we play as either a winger or the side midfielder who gets up and back to support our fullbacks and wingers.

01 Sep 2017 18:15:05
The little twist to come;
I think Real will bid for Coutinho next summer, possibly rivaling Barcelona if they come back in and bid again.
Modric isn't getting any younger, Ronnie Winker isn't getting any younger.
Might well have a bidding war on our hands next summer, either way. this will be Coutinho's last season with LFC.

Believable11 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 18:51:31
That's a good shout, OIrish and we all knew Cou would leave us at some point in the future, just not now. I would sell to RM just to screw Barca, IMO.

01 Sep 2017 19:11:20
Whoever bids the highest can have him.
No need to make enemies with Barcelona too.
Yeah they have used some tricks of the transfer trade as usual, "dirty boxing" if you will, but they technically did nothing illegal at all, so all is fair in love and war.
We would still take Van Dijk and we behaved quite a bit worse than Barca.
I'm sure you're aware that Real are no better than Barcelona in their dealings.
The big two always flex when they want someone badly, but as long as they keep it legal, I don't care.

01 Sep 2017 20:53:22
I wish we could add PSG to the mix but unfortunately they've already spent their next years money on Mbappe.

01 Sep 2017 18:14:29
Hi eds
Even if we lose couts today. there seems to be shift in player power this summer. Sanchez/ vvd/ Barkley

Is this simply the tv deal meaning clubs have enough money that can hold a player or is it just a strange transfer window.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is something the clubs need to resolve.}

01 Sep 2017 18:24:09
Is there really though? . We probably could have got Van dijk if we'd conducted ourselves correctly. Wasn't it Bartley who decided not to leave randomly, and don't think sanchez has pushed to leave too much, really bad timing for arsenal as well.

{Ed002's Note - it has been becoming more and more of an issue.

01 Sep 2017 18:08:21
Well it's been almost 24 hours since the window closed and I'm looking for suggestions.

We've only addressed our full back positions with a promising Robertson, an improved Moreno and TAA looking very good. bought in salah ( who looks as useless as mane) and brought one of England's brightest prospects who's still young enough to improve. Oh, also kept our best player of the last couple of years despite huge bids)
( I'm hoping the club sees sense so let's him stay in the reserves for 5 years- otherwise why would they turn down 140mil for him)

So my question is whose house can I can go to and protest outside of and burn effigies of? I need to take this out on the club and FSG cos every error is down to them. The team looks crap and sneaked a lucky win against Arsenal. I'm so depressed I think I should support chelseas or Arsenal looking how they are set up for the season.

Haha. is this post a wind up! 😂.

01 Sep 2017 18:27:15
Statto I think we can safely say it is sarcasm. He's just pointing out how everything is over because we didn't sign one player. Let's forget about this season and all the quality players we have.

01 Sep 2017 18:28:42
I forgot to mention that we have also secured one of the worlds most highly rated upcoming midfielders for next year. Pathetic. FSG Should have offered 300 mil and got him this year. Money grows on trees in most countries.

01 Sep 2017 18:43:35
Brilliant post Swish.

01 Sep 2017 18:54:54
Now, that's sarcasm.

01 Sep 2017 18:55:44
I agree Swish, we messed up and clearly FSG are to blame and need to go ASAP. What could've been our best transfer window ever turned out to be one of the worst.

01 Sep 2017 18:27:15
Statto I think we can safely say it is sarcasm. He's just pointing out how everything is over because we didn't sign one player. Let's forget about this season and all the quality players we have.

01 Sep 2017 20:55:43
i appreciate the sarcasm but bloody hell you must be bored.

02 Sep 2017 06:30:52
Liners, I was bored- of all the moaning about what a terrible window we had. Personally I think we look a much stronger team/ squad than last year and we can't undertestimate the natural improvement we're seeing in some players ( as well as the new signings)

01 Sep 2017 17:42:16
Hi fellow reds! And in particular ed 001 and ed 002.

If it was in my hands, I would never let Coutinho get back into the team.

Let him fake an injury for the whole season and miss the world cup too.

Believable5 Unbelievable8

01 Sep 2017 17:37:33
Yeah! Let' him and his family burn! Hail van dijk for going on strike! Get a grip. He's an amazing player and I guarentee If he goes on to help us win thugs you wouldn't give a hoot.

01 Sep 2017 17:37:45
Yeh let's just keep telling him he's injured 🤕 lol.

01 Sep 2017 17:51:40
I think klopp will pass on that suggestion ninja.
It's up to klopp. I suspect he'll have a conversation with him soon enough.
This has to be coutinhos last season regardless. I suspect he'll have interest if he plays this season which I imagine he will from real mardrid / Barca again or psg (link up with neymar) . I think one or two of them clubs will look to pursue him next season if keeps his head down and performs. Purely guesswork btw . he's still only 25 and is continuing to get better and better.

01 Sep 2017 18:24:50
You know what, he's still young at 25 and probably a bit immature to cope with the situation. After a good chat and Klopp hug, a cheer from the Anfield faithful he'll be right. if he refuses to play then that will be sad on so many levels.

01 Sep 2017 18:28:13
The market is only going to get crazier. He'll be worth £180M next summer. Crazy numbers these days.

01 Sep 2017 18:35:59
If coutinho is here after 12 tonight can we just forget about this. We don't know what has even went on. All sorts of reports now that he faked injury, refused to play, asked to be left out of champions league squad. 100% he has not been an angel but let the club deal with it. We may never know how true any of those rumours are. Klopp had said there was nothing wrong with his attitude (might have changed) and it would be a while until he decided to take him back in. Klopp is a strong manager and I could see him keeping coutinho out even after he says he is ready to play. Take the champions league request. I don't see how that would make a difference. Wouldn't it only be if he played for us in the competition properules he'd be cup tied.

01 Sep 2017 18:56:14
Yeah, how about we don't do that, Ninja?

01 Sep 2017 17:15:11
Hi Eds, sorry not Liverpool based but not sure where else to post.

Why do some transfers come up with the "undisclosed fee"? Is there any particular reason clubs don't want to announce the fee involved?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is simply to stop initial questions about fees. All fees are registered on the TMS and are known to those who need to know.}

01 Sep 2017 17:03:25
Ed002,
If coutinho doesn't move to Barcelona today could you see Barcelona coming back in for him in January or next summer? I really think he has made his stance clear and can't see a way back for him at liverpool.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Barcelona want a player now and are looking at options today. They may be interested next year but there is no guarantee.}

03 Sep 2017 18:37:50
Always baffles me why players want to sign for Barcelona and Madrid, Spanish football is like Scottish football was a few years ago only ever two teams in it such a snooze fest.

01 Sep 2017 16:52:48
Thank you to the Eds for your patience and input during the window. I'm not sure this is the page, but obviously Neymar's transfer was conducted differently to what we'd consider the average transfer, do the eds see more transfers in the future taking this approach or is it a rarity?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I am not really sure what you mean. Neymar was sold within the framework of Spanish law to PSG. The only unusual thing was the full amount changing hands but that was the agreement with the player - as it was with Messi (and may well still be).}

01 Sep 2017 17:15:44
Apologies Ed, perhaps I've misunderstood or been misled, it was my understanding that rather than the money transferring from PSG directly to Barcelona (as I've assumed is more usual), there were third parties involved (Qatar financing Neymar to buyout his contract) . If this is the case does a player buying out their contract still constitute a 'transfer fee' in terms of FFP?

{Ed002's Note - All of this is wrong, sorry. Fees to not get paid between clubs when the transfer takes place, they are paid to the FA of the selling club who then have to deduct monies that are owed in respect of the player (e.g. payments to prior clubs, the Solidarity contribution, any monies owed to the player (this was the area that was disputed with Neymar)) and taxes and then the selling club gets paid. It is all part of FFP.}

01 Sep 2017 17:30:23
Thank you for your reply and insight Ed002.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome Jevon.}

01 Sep 2017 16:49:06
Eds, Macca thank you so much for everything over the summer; providing information and most of all putting up with the bipolar fans! I wouldn't know what to do/ believe without this site.

Ed001, please may I make a request for you to watch the odd RBL and Monaco game to give us your two cents on Keita and Lemar. Not a full player profile as I know they take a lot of time for you, just enough to give you an opinion and what we can expect from Keita.

I ask about Lemar too, as Klopp seems to have found his target to replace Coutinho and as we've seen over the summer, once he's found his target, he doesn't want an alternative.

If he does proceed with Lemar, I only hope he's had a slap on the wrists and a deal can be reached legally with Monaco.

Let's enjoy this season together boys, we're already playing some great footy!

Cheers.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - I will be doing so as I have been asked to do player profiles on them both.}

01 Sep 2017 16:50:33
Sorry ed2- surprised he hasn't gone public yet. Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know who "he" is. Sorry.}

01 Sep 2017 16:50:14
Ed2,

Assuming Coutinho is still an LFC player after today do you think he'd refuse to play for us again when he returns to England? Unfortunately I can see this happening, as I'm still surprised he.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - I suffers from a problem with his back so we will have to see when he makes himself available.}

01 Sep 2017 17:28:53
Apparently it only comes on in the cold English weather though Ed. Playing in the warm South American climate doesn't seem to bother him. Either that or the Western Union logo on our sleeve is so big it puts pressure on his lumbar region. You have to feel for the lad really.

01 Sep 2017 16:45:54
Hi Eds
Quick question,
Would it be possible for VVD to buy his contract out?
i. e, If he was on 50k per week over 5 years.
That would be about 13million.
He gives Southampton the 13 million and then come to us?
Possible or completely illegal?
Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - No and even if there were a buy out clause it has nothing to do with future wages. Even if Southampton were to let him to buy his contract out, it would be for the amount that they would expect to get for a transfer - and obviously he would not have the money to pay that.}

01 Sep 2017 16:41:56
Would have been good to get VVD signed up but hopefully the club and Klopp will learn from this fiasco. Overall not a bad window, added some good quality depth to the squad and look better covered in most positions. Good healthy competition for places now so will bring the best out of all the players. I know a lot on here want Phil coutinho gone but that's not going to happen now and I for one am glad. I feel he will be really up for it this season so he can show Barcelona how good he is so he can get his move next summer. I think he will have his best season this year. He will be some what match fit when he gets back from Brazil which is a plus and I think he'll be on the bench for city game and probably get 30 mins depending on how the game is going. Klopp and couts will kiss and make up and all will be fine again and back to business as usual. Think we have a squad that will push for the title this year and a good run in the 3 cups. Yes the defending can be cringeworthy at times but if we can sort out set plays better we will be fine. Will score loads and probably batter a few on the way like we did to arsenal. Yes we would of liked more players in but it is what it is and we have to accept it and get on with backing the players and manager come match days. Chin up folks, it might just be our year😏.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

01 Sep 2017 16:37:42
Hi Eds.

Initially, thank you for all your hard work and patience throughout the window.

Now that it seems that Coutinho is staying, what is your opinion about his future? Is he going to try to make up for the last few weeks or he's going to be a new Sakho? Any insight about Klopp's intentions? Also is there any possibility that the media have twisted the truth about him? Write things more dramatic than they are for example.

Let's hope for a good season.
Good job you all.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know. He doesn't want to play for Liverpool and he doesn't like Klopp. It will be difficult for everyone - which is why clubs should move players on in these situations.}

01 Sep 2017 17:05:59
Coutinho is between a rock and a hard place at the moment and only has himself to blame.

If he did not pull his tricks then maybe he would have got his wish. Refuse to play for LFC while your wages are still being paid is the lowest of the low.

Quite honestly, the way we have started the season shows that we are not missing him and if he continues to act like a spoilt child then the club needs to leave him to rot. It is not like Liverpool are on the losing end of this matter.

It is Coutinho's duty to stop sulking and give 100% to the club when it comes to his binding contract.

Liverpool need to make an example of Coutinho like Southampton have with VVD.

01 Sep 2017 17:08:35
Ed002,what is the reason why Pipco doesn't like Klopp and surely he will have to get his head down and play as it is a world cup year? Well, I am hoping anyway!

I wonder how Coutinho (or vvd) would feel if he played football before the bosman case (mid nineties if i remember correctly) . I know that this case is different but i feel that nowadays players has the power to the clubs into extreme pressure.

From one edge in the past to another now. We should find the middle road.
I back the team for not selling but he should respect the contract he penned for at least this season.

Thank you for your insight.

01 Sep 2017 16:11:01
Bit of a left field question and perhaps one for Ed002, but if a situation like with Neymar were to arise while the transfer window were closed, could the player sign for another club (as I see it, Neymar was a free agent, at least for a few minutes there? )? Or is that an incorrect interpretation?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Neymar was not a free agent. His registration was held by Barcelona and then transfered to PSG. And I don't really get the question.}

01 Sep 2017 16:42:13
Eds I don't know but I think he's asking about signing free agents? I know they have an extended deadline but there is still a deadline? Or am I wrong?

{Ed002's Note - If they are free agents (and were during the transfer window) then they can be signed at any time. I am not aware of Liverpool looking to buy any free agents though there are plenty out there still - Joe Ledley springs to mind, Kieran Richardson if Klopp still wants another left back, Joleon Lescott to resolve the centre back concerns, Ross Turnbull in goal. Lots of options.}

01 Sep 2017 16:45:48
On the same subject ed why didn't Barcelona just say sorry that's not legally binding because you're in a different country i. e. The release clause or buy out or termination or whatever the correct term is. Barcelona say they wanted to keep him yet they didn't have to do the deal.

{Ed002's Note - Because Barcelona had an agreement to make him available if anyone offered the full fee. The player wanted to go but he was not without a contract.}

01 Sep 2017 17:36:24
Sorry, Ed002, I wasn't sure how that worked so just trying to understand it all. If the player in La Liga has to buy themselves out, are they not a free agent in some respects, even if just for a few minutes? It seems weird the registration would transfer directly from say Barcelona to PSG given the player is the one providing the money. Maybe I'm making this more complicated then it really is.

Maybe a better example- let's say Adidas gives Messi some amount that matches his buyout with the intention that he joins an Adidas-sponsored club rather than one wearing Nike. Messi then uses that money to buy himself out. Would he then be a free agent? And if so, could he not somewhat transfer in this sense at anytime?

I realize it's a lot of weird hypotheticals, but it seems the word of transfers is changing a bit.

{Ed002's Note - No, it doesn't work like that. The registration passes between clubs. The involvement of the player is to avoid an issue with Spanish tax law - nothing else. The player does not provide the money - the buying club provides the money and deposit it with the Spanish FA (with the player having to provide permission and assurances about about monies owed to him).

Adidas are not allowed to become the owner of a player or to pay a player in order to control what happens in his career - that is illegal in most countries under FIFA rules. As I said, the registration passes between clubs and the clubs have to be associated with a Football Association with which the player is registered. His registration has to pass between football clubs - e.g. Barcelona to Liverpool, and not via Adidas. There are very strict rules about anything that would allow any third party to acquire the ability to influence employment and transfer-related matters. So it can't happen.}

01 Sep 2017 18:04:10
Got it. Thank you very much, appreciate the very thorough explanation!

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

01 Sep 2017 15:42:32
Hi eds 02 what's your opinion on our current squad. Do you think its good enough to win the league or top 4
many thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Top four certainly but I suspect winning the league will be out of range.}

01 Sep 2017 16:42:48
I put money on us winning CL and top 3. I have too much money clearly.

01 Sep 2017 16:23:18
So the big question is what next for Coutinho? Some fans saying he should rot in the reserves but that won't happen, this isn't a sakho situation, a club doesn't refuse to sell a player and then refuse to play them. So what happens?

The first part is up to the player, will he sulk or will be get back to work? I'd be pissed if it was the former, at the very least he should be professional. If he is available then he doesn't make the team for city, maybe an unused substitute, see how the crowd respond to him. From there a slow reintegration based on his commitment and performances. Hopefully he'll play a major role this season, we have a much better chance of the title of he does.

no matter how he reacts he may have to buy himself a cushion and sit on the bench for awhile the team have been doing ok without him. if he wants to walk round with a gob on him an sulk he's got to live with his own actions.

01 Sep 2017 16:50:31
Waste of a place on the bench, stands for Pipco. Training with the youths. Subs bench for the u23's.

01 Sep 2017 17:53:45
So you have answered your own question!?

01 Sep 2017 17:55:47
Yeah mr Dennis! That will drive the club so well' let's teach him a lesson and pat on ourselves on the back for turning down all that cash to keep him in the under 23's.!

01 Sep 2017 16:19:42
Hi eds I read that it was down to messi that pipco never moved it said messi did not want certain players to leave Barcelona in a swap deal, also does messi have so much power at Barcelona that he can dictate Transfer's.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - he does have a lot of power there but this was nothing to do with Messi.}

01 Sep 2017 16:37:52
Never mind the repeated assurances from LFC that Coutinho was going nowhere, let's look for more vague reasons why Coutinho didn't move.
Talk about stretching it.

01 Sep 2017 16:04:23
Question for ed001,

I know a lot of fans would have liked o keep sakho, personally I'm glad he's gone, but was wondering what ed001's thoughts were on him as a player?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - as a player he was a decent defender, much better on the ball than he looked, but his heading scared me, as you never knew where the ball would go and he did tend to get caught out positionally in a higher line. Overall I am just glad he is gone as I want players who make an effort to earn a place in the team, rather than be all sly and half arsed in training but talk up their love for the club on social media to pretend they actually care. If you truly care, you show it by making an effort in training and, if you get picked, during matches.}

01 Sep 2017 15:53:30
City up next and I cannot see their back three coping with our attack. It is going to be a very open game and there are bound to be plenty of goals.

One thing that has baffled me about Guardiola is that he has been playing De Bruyne as a holding midfielder and hoping he keeps it the same when we face them as De Bruyne is more useful to us playing deep than what he given a free role in City's attack. As a holding midfielder, De Bruyne is of no threat to us

Going to be a thriller. COYR!

Ed002
Sine the Spanish closing date is tonight, can they only transfer within their own country or can they take players from other countries.

Might sound like a silly question but had to ask as there’s obviously a few still around fearing for Couthino leaving.
Think I already know the answer but thought it best to ask yourself as you would know best.

Cheers in advance 🙂.

I believe the key is, they can still register players.

With Ox coming in is it still 50/ 50 we accept a late bid or do you think it's more likely Couts stays now?

{Ed002's Note - I am sure he will be forced to stay now with Barcelona looking elsewhere now.}

Semms Barcelona have turned to Dani Parejo as an alternative and the fans don't seem very happy about it.

01 Sep 2017 16:52:00
Oh well, unlucky Barcelona fans.

01 Sep 2017 15:36:52
My post ended up on the teams page but just wanted to send this in a separate message:

In my opinion we have a decent squad, much better balanced than last season overall. Definite disappointment and not good enough that we didn't get a CB of course.

Depth is not the issue imo - we should have more than enough quality to get to Jan in a good position, especially with that CL group that we SHOULD be fine in. The issue is not getting a top quality CB in but again - with 7 clean sheets in last 8 prem games (I think? ), I think specifically defending set pieces better and defending better as a team is the main is the main issue.

That's not to say that come Jan, I hope we can get a top quality CB in as there are too many individual errors taking place too regularly right now and it will cost us at some point.

Bring on City and also don't think we should be negative toward FSG at all - they presented the cash for signings, they don't control every aspect of the club. Slowly but surely, I think we are moving in the right direction.

I know we all have our opinions of how well the transfer window has gone or not.

but we might as well be positive we have had a good start to the season, onwards and upwards!

yes its a shame that VVD hasn't come in for whatever reason but to moan incessantly is just unnecessary.

As i a big positive i am really happy for ings coming through and getting up the match fitness i think he could be a very useful addition and can be our 3/ 4th striker.

But let's for a second take a step back.

3 seasons ago. How many players and positions did you all and me think needed filling. Everyone bar cou wasn't it.

Now we all believe it's one in vvd. One signing to be competeting properly again.

We now have youth, academy players, signings paying dividends (can, lallana, firmino, moreno) really exciting.

.

01 Sep 2017 14:46:35
I don't get why everyone is doom and gloom ok we didn't get all the names that were being mentioned but what team did a bigger plus for me is players are wanting to play for us and turning down other premier league teams offering higher wages.

01 Sep 2017 14:29:11
Our backline and keeper are going to concede some poor goals this season but we have a very good midfield and excellent attackers. We'll be entertaining for sure and play some great football.
Yes I'm disappointed we didn't sign van dijk or an alternative but hopefully we stay close to the top of the league by January and who knows? We may sign van dijk or someonelse.
Theres lots to look forward to this season. Plus we have some outstanding prospects that will no doubt shine. Taa, gomez and solanke the stand Outs. I'm sure we'll also see a lot more of grujic.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 14:49:49
Well. one thing for sure, it will be entertaining. From a 3-3 draw to Watford to a 4-3 loss against Bournemouth and a 5-4 win against Norwich. A game fill with mixture of happiness, joy of our att players to anger and frustrated with our incompetent defence and goalkeeper.

01 Sep 2017 15:40:29
If we're talking defense, I think Robertson will make a difference at LB as even if he's essentially an attacking player he seems more composed, and I like Gomez and TAA at RB. Matip is decent at RCB and while Lovren obviously prone to mistakes, with a better LB and a better GK go organize the defense I actually think we're going to be OK. Not brilliant but it's hardly the end of the world.

Not ideal we didn't get VVD but would rather we're patient and have a go in Jan than panic buy now.

01 Sep 2017 14:24:35

Can anyone explain what actually happened Y-day?
No club statement. No nothing. Just silence.

Im so deflated its unreal. And now Couts is crying in the arms of Neymar and Willian when he scored for Brazil.
Have we seriously been that bad, to the point he has to cry?
Let him go, I don't want LFC to make a statement by keeping a guy whose literally crying to leave.
Its embarrassing.

01 Sep 2017 15:10:40
Ridiculous to think the club should have made any communication, do any clubs hold a press conference at the end of the transfer window?
The only thing embarrassing in any if this is Coutinho's conduct in trying to force this move.

01 sep 2017 15:14:37
ffs.
coutinho crying, fu@#$ng grow up.

well done fsg. and by the same principle, well done southampton,
rbl, chelsea etc. for putting their own clubs and fans interests before big money offers and and fu@#$g agents who are ruining the game.

if you are lucky enough for a club to sign you for 5 years that means they intend to build a team around you. the agent that handles your contract should be tied by contract as well.

we didn't get the players we wanted because they were not available.

if they were they would be with us now.

playerpower has just hit a wall so coutts should strap on a pair; put his head down and eaen the huge salary that he signed to receiive for rhe next 5 years.

f@#k barca.

01 Sep 2017 15:32:52
Lfcder, Many players will learn a lesson from this! They will think twice before messing with their clubs.

{Ed002's Note - If anyone should learn a lesson it is Liverpool. They did not get away with their cheating.}

01 Sep 2017 15:34:44
Interesting read in the independent today about Pep Segura and John Henry in this couts saga. Alludes that Henry was personally involved and no way he wanted to sell to this guy. The other thing that irks me, if true, is how the supposed last offer was structured; 16m up front plus same for following 4 seasons and largely i achievable add ons. Throw in the supposed pay cut couts was taking and it begs the question "who do these guys think they r? " The perceived arrogance they've displayed through this whole thing is disgusting. One last tidbit: couts signed a short term lease on his home even tho he signed a five year deal.

02 Sep 2017 00:35:13
Thats true Ed. The club have to play by the rules.

One other question please Ed.

Should PSG have had to ask Barca's permission before being able to talk to Neymar? the same query applies to all of the transfers that went through where the selling clubs were reluctant?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, unless the player has been given permission to talk with other clubs (liek Sakho).}

Just watched Arsenal game again. All 4 goals were counter attacks. We are tailor made for hitting teams on the break especially Ones as unorganised as Arsenal.

Let's hope we can start to unlock the defences of the lesser teams and manage games better than we did last season. Lost count of the amount of times we scored first during the last 2 seasons. Let's hope Klopp can use the stronger bench to effect games late on so we can stop dropping stupid points.

The squad is not perfect but it's heading in the right direction . Let support the team, hope for a bit and luck and who knows how far we can go.

Thanks to Eds and Macca 😝👌🏻.

You can only beat what's in front of you Redroon, it was clearly the best strategy in that game. Don't forget we got a nice 1-0 against Palace the week before, a game we might have drawn. 3 games and 2 clean sheets is not a bad return, and while Arsenal didn't exactly help themselves the other day, from being there I think we forced them into that performance.

01 Sep 2017 14:13:38

{Ed002's Note - Nope.}

01 Sep 2017 14:06:54
Do we play such a unique style of football that VVD was the only option we could have gone for at CB?

Why has this major weakness in our team/ squad not been addressed again?

Lovren is a good CB for a certain style of team (mainly one that offers him more protection with a DM just in front and FB's that hold the line rather than bomb forward.

He does not suit our style, but we are now stuck with it.

I don't think Mignolet helps him either to be honest. If he was more commanding of his area, that could take away a lot of the 'mistakes' made by the CB's, where it appears they don't mark the goal scorer or watch them drift right past them.

Our attack is going to have to be better than our defence all season. We just have to hope it will be. It's going to come down to the games where we don't quite get it right going forward and struggle to score more than one. That is where the defence needs to perform.

The next piece of business that has to be done is the new contract for Emre. I know we have Keita coming in, but Can is going to be a beast of a midfielder and it would be a mistake to let him walk away.

Overall, not a bad window, but for me we missed a trick in not improving the CB area.

It's going to be interesting to see how Coutinho gets re-integrated back into the team, if Sturridge and Henderson can stay fit, if Can signs a new contract and then what happens in the January window plus how close we are at that time too.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 14:27:50
The key thing is probably your penultimate comment, it is about improving not just bringing in someone cos they're available and not one of our existing players. There aren't that many top CBs around and even less that are available, in fact it would seem available to move to LFC (or any top club) was pretty much the sum of 0. So really it was a better than usual window as stupid money wasn't spent taking a chance on someone probably no better than current squad.

01 Sep 2017 14:31:50
I think it is pretty clear that Klopp made the decision that if he could not get the CB he wanted then he was not going to bring any in.

That is the way our transfer business should have been run for many a moon now. You just have to look at how spending was done before Klopp arrived.

Kid in a candy shop with money falling out of the pockets style.

01 Sep 2017 15:27:22
Spot on, Max. The peeing in the wind transfer strategy needs to stop. BTW, this same defence is the same one that has kept 7 clean sheets out of the last 9 PL games as well so they are not as hopeless as many of our fans and the media make it out to be.

01 Sep 2017 14:00:40
Can people get over the fact that we did not sign a CB?

Would VVD even have been the answer to our defenisve issues?

Klopp likes his Liverpool team to play attacking football. We have 2 clean sheets out of 3 matches so far this season.

Some saying our season has gone up in flames because we did not get a CB. I mean seriously, please get a grip.

Maybe our current defenders need to concentrate a bit better at set pieces and defend as a unit.

If we continue to keep up the performances like we saw when we completely thrashed Arsenal then we will become one of the most difficult teams to beat.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

01 Sep 2017 14:10:24
Get over what
We clearly needed strengthening in that dept
Look at Lovren and Matip absences through injury last season
2 injuries to CB at same time and we are well and truly up the creek.

01 Sep 2017 14:15:25
I agree that there's been an overreaction, but we do need improving there.

We have kept clean sheets in 2 games. You miss out the fact that it's against the worst arsenal team I think most of us have ever seen in the premiership and a palace side that hasn't scored in any of their games.

We conceded 3 over 2 legs against an average Hoffenheim and 3 in 1 game against an average Watford side.

Do I think our season is over because we didn't buy one? No, absolutely not.

Do I think it will hinder us challenging right at the top in the 2 major competitions, yes.

01 Sep 2017 14:24:57
Does it really matter how many goals we conceded?

I would rather see us continue playing mind blowing football and hopefully our defending at set pieces will improve.

It is set pieces that is our biggest weakness so Klopp needs to find a solution with our current crop of defenders and it is not impossible.

01 Sep 2017 14:31:54
I think people need to separate the need to improve there, which is clearly seen, from the need to just buy someone to be seen to be doing something. No point buying another CB who doesn't improve things because they were available. Also improving in that area isn't limited to just buying, developing the ones we have and improving the system to provide stronger defence are both ways of improving. Ultimately just buying someone for the sake of it won't solve things either. And people do seem to forget this isn't a game, it is real life and players aren't just for sale or willing to sign.

01 Sep 2017 14:38:14
Watch the Watford game again Max and tell me we don't need to improve the centre halves. We blew the best chance of winning the league under BR because we couldn't and still can't defend, nothing has changed.

If it's possible and you may already do, get yourself to a home game and feel the tension everytime the opposition gets a corner or a free kick near our penalty area.

01 Sep 2017 14:52:12
Thing is looking at the Watford goals, there was a similar one conceded late last season where Can, playing CM, was the one who let the player go and score from the set piece, that wasn't down to the keeper or the CBs. If the stupid, easy goals from set pieces were worked out the difference in results would be massive, again that doesn't rely on just CBs and keeper, the team as a whole needs to defend more effectively. Switching off seems to be a problem across the board.

01 Sep 2017 15:39:51
Spot on, Freshst. People just think that with a new CB, our players will stop having brain farts and suddenly start tracking runners from deep during set pieces or Migs will suddenly stop flapping at crosses being indecisive and putting the fear of God into his defence cos no one knows what he will do. If only players were more accountable and we had more leaders in the team, these silly goals won't be happening. A new CB would help BUT would not fix everything. Clearly, that is too complicated to understand as many people just think there is a simple solution to everything. City have spent 200m on CB's but they are still crap defensively so spending is not the ONLY answer, clearly.

01 Sep 2017 13:47:29
I hope we sell Coutinho today. Tired of this nonsense of all of his sadness, grief, blah blah. He knows nothing of true hardship if he thinks what he is going through now is great anguish. Part of me wants to sell him. Part of me wants to let him rot in the reserves till he makes amends for what he's done. He's not fit to wear the shirt.

Regardless, I'll be glad when all this is over. Just ready to support the team again. Bring on Citeh.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

01 Sep 2017 14:17:46
I disagree. Although I want to see Coutinho go, it would be better for LFC to show that they are not some institution which gives a player a very lucrative 5 year contract and then he pisses all over it refusing to play because he wants his way.

No, screw him, he is not going to get his way and that might just be a lesson for the next player who decides to do the same thing to LFC.

The onus is on Coutinho to now clean up his act and it his duty to put on the red shirt again and give it his all while Liverpool are paying his wages.

If he does not want to adhere to his contract then he can go rot like Sakho.

{Ed002's Note - Who would they be showing this to?}

01 Sep 2017 14:30:24
We need to let him play a blinder this season like Suarez did before he left. Sell him for lots of money in the summer, and in the mean time, we need to sound out replacements for him so that it's a smooth transaction next year.

Letting him "rot in the reserves" is an emotional action rather than logical and professional, and one which would not be best for Liverpool.

01 Sep 2017 14:44:51
Ed002, I think it is fair to say that Coutinho has it all to lose if he now does not clean up his act should Liverpool refuse to let him go before the Spanish window closes.

That should be a lesson in itself to all other players that refuse to play for LFC in future while being payed a wage which will be able to feed a country in poverty. That should send out a message that players will no longer get their way.

Coutinho is between a rock and a hard place at the moment and he only has himself to blame.

{Ed002's Note - Players don't even think about such matters and any "messages" that Liverpool send out I am afraid Max.}

01 Sep 2017 16:06:16
Selling without a replacement is dumb business and this is why fans should never run clubs. They are too emotionally charged hence, could cut their noses to spite their faces. I want him gone as well BUT I'm not ready to sell without a replacement. That is just getting screwed twice which is senseless.

01 Sep 2017 16:21:20
Players simply don't have the emotional attachment to the clubs they play for that fans have for the club they support .
It s somewhat naive to expect the top players to stay at a club which hasn't won a major title in some time when there are more lucrative options and better chances for trophies.
It has been a strange window in the number of transfers which didn't materialise .
I'm unsure if clubs or players have come out of it "holding the power"
Fully expected Costa, VVD, Coutinho, Barkley, Sanchez, etc to move but
didn't materialise .

01 Sep 2017 13:33:17
Personally I think we was given encouragement that we could sign VVD from Southampton but they pulled the plug late on to basically get back at us, hence why no bid was made.

Probably right KMAC. Le tissier has annoyed me with his cheeky tweets. Laughing at Liverpool. I feel like "keep laughing matt, you've missed out on £70.000.000 for an injured defender. How long do you think you can keep hold of him? And BTW, we have all your best players! "

01 Sep 2017 13:52:27
they have cut their nose off to spit us i no its are fault but now let them get him match fit he hasn't played for 7 months had no pre season and his head won't be right.

01 Sep 2017 14:35:06
Don't know why people are surprised by Le Tissier's view, he was always into the big fish, small pond world so why wouldn't he be against players moving to bigger clubs?

01 Sep 2017 14:39:11
KMAC, Ed02 has given more info which may explain as to why Saints would never sell to us. You may consult him/ her for this information. I don't think it has anything to do with any thing to do with Saints playing games with us.

01 Sep 2017 13:22:11
I can see a lot of posters looking ahead to next year (when Keita and VVD (apparently) come) let's get this season out the way first, I think we have every chance of a title challenge this season.
last season we really struggled at left and right back, teams seemed to tear us apart down the wings and Milner and clyne offered very little offensively to make up for it, this year we have Robertson who can cross a ball with his left foot (can you believe it! ) and TAA who looks comfortable at right back and offers a lot more than clyne does.
Can struggled for much of last season due to carrying an injury, this season he looks much, much better, same can be said for hendo.
Mane was brilliant last year but we badly missed him and a pace winger when he went to Africa and when out injured, this season he looks even better, won't go to Africa and we have added salah so we will likely never be without a pacey goal threat on the wings.
I know there are apparent weaknesses in our squad but we know migs can play better and we know matip and lovren are capable when they get a run of games.
Even if we don't win the league we will undoubtedly be the most exciting team to watch this season.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 14:41:31
As long as we are improving in the PL and CL and can win a trophy and get CL again, not winning the title (I hope we can go for it, for sure) won't be a problem. Progress is key and we are seeing signs of it already 3 games into the season with more points, more goals scored, less goals conceded and more clean sheets than this time last season.

01 Sep 2017 14:55:05
Yep I'd be happy with just getting to the point where regular UCL was realistic, that would be a massive step up from the past 10 years realistically.

All the targets where spot on, we just messed around once again and had no real alternatives. I don't know how to feel about that window, I think in terms of defensive reinforcements it's a failure but offensively it was pretty decent especially since we kept couts. So for me it's as you where basically. We'll continue to be a force going forward but a shambles at the back at times.

01 Sep 2017 14:59:02
Macca pls, do not ever apologize for anything you say/ said or not say/ said on this forum again. EVER!

So who we after in January then eds? 😂
Well done guys for all the hard work love the site and macca keep up the good work too.

01 Sep 2017 13:05:58
Hi Eds macca and fellow reds even if a lot of you are depressing to listen to, I think it's been a very good window and start to the season, with PC handing in transfer request and drawing our first game we've definitely got more to be happy about since then, champs league and a good start to the season good signings and a in general the feel good factor is there, we should be thanking fsg because they've done great for the club so far, bigger stadium plans to move training facilities etc, we've a top manager at the club that wants to be here and be successful long term, and who I think has done great in the signings he made even the ones we messed up or missed out on it's still moving in the right direction looking to buy players that make us stronger, if we missed out on top targets we didn't just settle for less and waste money that has been done for years at lfc, I think this year we have seen progress on and off the field so far with good players been added ox salah Robertson solanke and the naby deal sorted before others came in for him, we are now attracting top players to the club again and playing attacking exciting football, we've progressed I feel to be be a lot stronger in top 4 this season compared to Chelsea arsenal and mabye Spurs who I think will all struggle to be better than last season, so we should be looking forward to this season more than we have in the last few years.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

01 Sep 2017 13:31:42
I'd have to agree with everything you've said. I always feel optimistic at the beginning of a new season but this year I feel more optimistic than usual. We have some brilliant additions and I'm grateful to FSG for spending and getting behind the manager. Keeping hold of coutinio is a good bit of business and if I had a choice of pc or vvd I'd choose Phil I think. Looking forward to seeing the ox in a liverpool shirt (and looking forward to see where he will play) I feel like last seasons questions about depth have been well addressed and we have a very good chance of finishing in that top 4, if not No1.

Cheers to the eds for their patience.

01 Sep 2017 15:13:22
Love your posts, Super and NotlDK. I am more than excited this season cos not only have we beefed up the squad in almost all the areas bar CB, we are ahead of where we were at this stage last season with more goals scored, more points, less goals concede and more clean sheets. Oh, we are also in the CL proper with a very good group. And we have Keita coming in next season too. Happy Days!

Klopp has done a great job as we are way better than we were when we arrived on and off the pitch and FSG have backed him to the hilt esp. with the Cou issue as the decision is Klopp's and his alone. Cou will be dealt with in-house so I'm not worried about that and neither are the players as they have gone about their business very well. On to City.

01 Sep 2017 13:02:54
Hi Ed001,

Would it be possible for a review of Liverpool's transfer activity to be added to that infinite to-do-list of yours?

Thanks.

Regarding our transfer success did it really matter that we got champions league.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

01 Sep 2017 13:29:27
No. This year and the year after is important though.

We did sign keita and that wouldn't of happened with Europa league.

We have to consolidate our position now and be a cl team. Semi final after semi final minimum.

Qualifying for one campaign doesn't make you a top team again, same as a boxer winning one fight. You have to keep winning and keep winning.

Mayweather has 50 and no loses and even some people don't call him the greatest. It's all opinion and players have those opin8ons aswel.

All we can do is keep being successful. It won't convince every player but a lot will see that they can achieve with us.

Vvd was fighting to get to us over others so the success can be seen. Just make sure people know it wasn't a fluke like the last times we have had moderately good seasons.

Couple of trophies and top 4 is a minimum now.

01 Sep 2017 13:32:52
Of course. Would kieta have agreed to sign if we weren't?

01 Sep 2017 14:04:58
A couple of trophies minimum? One trophy would be great. I'd rather we qualified for next year's ucl and put in a decent showing in this year's. I think the kids will get a chance in the league cup and maybe F. A cup. Personally I'm not that bothered about the two domestic cups.

United and city are our biggest competition this year although write off spurs and Chelsea at your peril. I also think Arsenal fans should sort their nuts out. Defeat to liverpool at anfield and it's the end of the world! They will be pushing for top four, make no mistake about that. Truth be told I think finishing in top four will be easier this year than it was last year. Spurs and arsenal don't look as strong for whatever reason.

01 Sep 2017 15:02:08
I honestly think getting UCL in this country is very, very hard, so achieving that constantly for the next few seasons would be a major achievement in itself. The other thing is, we failed to win the league, narrowly, on a couple of pretty weak seasons for the other clubs, that will possibly happen again in the next few seasons and the club needs to be able to take advantage of that this time round.

01 Sep 2017 15:16:46
Spot on, TB. We need to kick on and continue to move in the right direction with what he have achieved since Klopp arrived. We need to be a true CL team every season andf build from there and hopefully, the title will appear at Anfield BUT we have to learn how to win on a consistent basis first. There will be difficult days for sure and this is where we have to hang together and not turn on each other with negativity and finger-pointing.

01 Sep 2017 15:21:56
You think we should aim and win the carling cup and fa cup?

We should be in both of those finals. That's a minimum.

That's where we should be aiming. Not a lot of people take the darling seriously and we should take advantage of that. As for the fa cup well that's where we have to be at the end of the season. Top 4, had a good run in the cl and a final.

That's Liverpool.

United managed two with a worse team than we ha e now.

01 Sep 2017 12:58:35
I often come out of a transfer window feeling as though we are like a boat with a leak, and that rather than plugging the hole, we are just using a bucket to chuck the water back out.

The reason i normally feel that way is because every summer we seem to sign about 7 players for the first team squad, but also lose about 7 players from the first team squad. So you kind of look at it and it's hard to tell if we are actually better.

This season though, the only first team squad regulars to have left are Lucas and Origi. When you consider we have replaced them with 4 first team players all of a higher quality than Lucas or Origi, as well as welcomed back the likes of Gomez, Grujic and Ings from injury lay offs it is very clear our squad has been strengthened massively in terms of both depth and quality.

I agree that we still have deficiencies at the heart of our defence, but i also think we are strong enough everywhere else to challenge regardless. Just look at our attack now; Salah, Firmino, Sturridge, Mane, Chamberlain, and Lallana are all capable of scoring and creating goals at will and all good enough to be starting games for a top 6 team. Klopp actually has a selection dilemma now such is the strength in our attack. When we add Keita next summer we will literally be impossible to defend against.

Hopefully as the season goes on Gomez will cement his place alongside Matip, Arnold can permanently dislodge Clyne, Robertson can fully settle, and Ward/ Karius get a fair crack in goal. Then even our defence will be improved upon.

So many positives to take from this summer. Only 4 teams in the league held on to everyone they wanted to keep; Liverpool, Chelsea, City and United. We are well and truly back in the big time now. Players want to come here, we have the financial stability to keep our best players, and we will have a great season, mark my words.

You know what MK, you are right that there are things we can smile about and be happy with, at least we didn't pay £35m for Drinkwater, Barkley's change of heart was hilarious, Rooney getting done for drink driving made me laugh and as much as I am not a fan of Oxlade, you would have to be dead on the inside not to see how happy he was to sign and that he looked like a dog with two d*cks (as the old saying goes) . Not to mention the fact we bagged Keita before his price goes north of £100m.

01 Sep 2017 13:31:09
Oohrah! Love it MK.

01 Sep 2017 13:41:16
MK u forgot pipco, he will be re-intergrated also.

01 Sep 2017 13:55:52
Well said MK, we are spoilt. We had a good window and while the lack of a centre back is a bummer, it is not the end of the world. United and city look certain to be the top 2 teams come the end of the season, but they both still have a lot to prove. Spurs have kept and added to their team but still have a very thin squad and will struggle at wembley. Chelsea have messed around with their team and while they will be strong, have gone backwards. Everton have bought too many players, many of whom are gambles, in one go. Arsenal are just an outright mess. Okay so we didn't get a centre back but almost everything else is in our favour! We still have our best player to come back into the team and we haven't seen gomez at centre back yet. Also anybody who think van dijk would of been the answer and would of allowed us to suddenly demolish all before us is wrong, the guy hasn't played for 8 months. It is all an overeaction and it will all work itself out. Top players actually want to join us, we have champions league to look forward to, the future is looking bright.

01 Sep 2017 14:09:48
I think you're right mk and the top four should consist of us city united and Chelsea. If spurs finish 6th 7th is it possible we could go for Ali next year?

01 Sep 2017 15:22:34
That's the spirit, MK. With you all the way. Onwards to City.

'COUTINHO LIVING IN SADNESS'

Neymar has revealed Philippe Coutinho is living in “great sadness” at the moment amid links with Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are keen to add Coutinho to their ranks but Liverpool have rebuffed all of their offers.

Speaking after Coutinho scored for Brazil last night, Neymar said: "I'm very happy that he scored a goal because at this moment he lives a very great sadness.

"He helped us to the victory. He's a great player and did very well when he came on. "

PMSL 😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏.

He'd get more respect from the fans if he just came out and said he wanted to go instead of getting his friends and family to do so!

It's pathetic really.

Ahead of the new season, I wanted to express my sincere thanks to all the Eds (particularly Eds 001,002,007,025 and 033) for all the hard selfless work they do. It was an exciting season and a crazy summer. This is a thriving global community, and it's a great pleasure to be part of it. (But I still want a "kiddies corner" for certain posts and posters. Does anyone use the word nincompoop anymore? "The nincompoop pit" sounds really good. Three bans and all your posts automatically go into the pit. We didn't get VVD. What next? Hello ED'S, do you see Klopp going for a CB (not necessarily VVD) in January or will He wait till next season. If so who do u suspect?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - it would only be guesswork to say right now.}

01 Sep 2017 12:03:51
I know we all would've liked VVD but look at some positives:
Kent and origi look to have good loans
Full back and wide positions strengthened
Keita for next year
Players actually want to join us.

Let's hope for an injury free international break and then hammer City and send a warning!

Believable7 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 12:29:49
Yeah, I think if we have a good season it sets us up well for next summer, hopefully if Coutinho does stay he'll apologise and knuckle down for the team, we'll have time to properly look for CBs and Coutinho's replacement. Next year I guess we'll be able to have the squad as we really want it (unless there are more outgoings) so hopefully we'll be able to do better than this year (so nailed on for the quadruple! ) .

01 Sep 2017 12:40:38
All is good at LFC. Yeah Klopp made a mess of the VVD transfer but hopefully we'll get him in Jan or next Summer. Solid signings have been made and we got our main transfer target for next year. And it looks like we have kept our best player. TAA, Matip, Gomes and Robertson will be cracking back 4. We are contenders this year.

01 Sep 2017 11:45:20
Good article by Simon Hughes in the independent about Liverpool's resolve in not selling coutinho to Barcelona and why the relationship between the two clubs is so bad.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 16:10:45
Don't really care what Barcelona do and frankly, never have. They are a club who use vile tactics to get their players on the cheap so they get no sympathy for me and don't care about having a relationship with them. They still owe us part of the Suarez money allegedly and if that is true, don't be shocked why we have next to no relationship with them. Disgusting club.

01 Sep 2017 18:02:16
Bingo read the article.

01 Sep 2017 11:41:47
Thanks Macca. Agree i think we massively let VVD down. We've messed him and subsequently Southampton (again) about due to our behaviour. I really hope we go back in for him even during January. But if you believe in Karma we got what we desreved i. e. Coutinho an unhappy player who wanted to leave to go to a bigger club.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 11:03:54

{Ed001's Note - that is up to him.}

01 Sep 2017 13:03:28

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

01 Sep 2017 16:12:03
Cou will be dealt with internally for his antics and refusing to play and faking injury, if all that is true. His team mates have done fine w/ o him and will continue to focus on the job at hand.

01 Sep 2017 11:02:35
Sorry if this has been asked ed, but does origi have a future with us after his loan?
I know chances could of been hard to come by this season, but I thought he was a good player.

01 Sep 2017 16:12:59
I hope he has a future still esp. if Studge won't be kept next season. I love him as a player and feel we may give up on him too early.

01 Sep 2017 11:31:44
I can't believe some folk think that after this transfer window, our defence is up to dealing with the rigours of the league, cup games and CL.

Look back at the Watford game, watch how Lovren was bullied off the ball all afternoon. Watch how easy it is for attackers with pace and power to get goal side of Lovren.

We buy a new left back but yet Moreno, second choice to Milner, is back in the first team!

Nothing has changed since Brendan Rogers's era, we continue to ship goals and can't defend against pace and power.

We put all our eggs in one basket with VVD and completely screwed that up.

Barcelona exempt, Championship winning teams have a solid back four, you just need to look at George Grahams Arsenal sides, Fergies sides, Jose's teams, Wengers invincible's, they all had great defences.

Believable2 Unbelievable9

01 Sep 2017 11:55:08
Tinted glasses after the arsenal result mate. They'll soon be brought back down to earth. I think it's been a poor transfer window. We've signed two players that are an improvement and at the required level for our club at this moment. Salah and keita. Keitas not here until next year. Solankes promising but not pushing firminho or sturridge down the pecking order.
Defence is terrible. Taa / gomez real positives at right back. Lovren/ moreno / Robertson / mignolet? We'll get punished time and again.

01 Sep 2017 13:04:46
I agree. Poor window. Didn't replace an unhappy player. Didn't strengthen our weaknesses.

01 Sep 2017 13:53:18

01 Sep 2017 11:54:39
And Origi and Kent aren't at the club at moment.

01 Sep 2017 12:04:59
Well spotted RedRoon. Official site has him listed as a midfielder for the season.

01 Sep 2017 10:57:24
Positives reds

AOC will add more pace to the side. I think he'll flourish under Klopp and he's with his mates, Hendo, Studge and Lallana. Expect him to be bang up for it.

Keita signed for next summer. What a player he looks like turning out to be.

Origi Wolfsburg loan for £6 million. That's great business plus they pay all his wages.

Salah speaks for himself

Solanke looks good.

TAA and Gomez have all the makings of great wing backs.

Morenos second coming. Such a hard worker.

Robertson looks good. Really fitting in at left back. Good challenge for him and Moreno

Coutinho staying. He's a great player. He needs to get his head down and work.

They only negative would be no one signed at CB. However Gomez could be the answer there until we can reinforce in Jan perhaps.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 11:48:00
VvD hasn't played since Jan. He hasn't had a pre season. If we had signed him he probably would need 2 months to get up to speed. If we can get him in January I don't think it would disadvantage us too much.

01 Sep 2017 10:33:40
I know there's a chance he'll go today, but if Markovic sticks about would you expect him to be integrated into the squad? Maybe play some cup games and see what he can add? With Kent and Origi going and Lemar not coming in it's not like we're massively stocked on the wing. Interested to hear your opinion EDs, and anyone else's. Cheers.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure he has shown enough to suggest there is any point in doing so. Surely any gametime he would get would be better off being given to someone like Woodburn or Wilson?}

01 Sep 2017 10:52:49
Is he really that bad? On the few times I saw him play I thought he had a bright future. Maybe his confidence is just shot.

{Ed001's Note - he just does not look good enough for us to me.}

01 Sep 2017 10:54:54
Got my fingers crossed that any Spanish side will take him today! just a loan will do fine for now.

agree with Ed001, would much rather see Wilson and Woodburn get some games.

01 Sep 2017 11:12:37
He's an excellent player for a mid table squad who need a dash of explosive pace, but sadly (based largely on his half season at Hull) he's just not got the intelligence to make himself a top player.

01 Sep 2017 10:28:27
So many people are so dissapointed we didn't sign the CB we all knew we need, and I agree to a point.
What I would say is that I am happy we didn't just splash the cash on any CB for the sake of it when we couldn't get our No.1 target. Yes, we can all say there must have been other CBs that might have been suitable, but Klopp obviously feels he is at the point where he is fine tuning the squad and doesn't want just any CB.
Rushing in for someone ends up in overpaying for a player that doesn't fit the bill, Andy Carroll for example.
It might be that we will come back for VVD in January, or scout someone else that may be suitable by then.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 10:43:00
Scout someone else preferably.

01 Sep 2017 10:46:38
Yep, I've pretty much said the same below Andy. VVD would have been great but it wasn't to be so I'm glad we didn't just go crazy and sign a basket case.

01 Sep 2017 11:18:45
You won't be saying that at the end of the season when we've shipped another shed load of goals from set pieces and attackers with pace easily getting goal side of Lovren.

01 Sep 2017 11:58:43
Yeah I can see our attacking players getting really p****d off with scoring and having our defence make shambolic errors to get teams back into the game.

01 Sep 2017 13:05:29
Agree there must be other options for CB maybe we have been looking with vvd tinted glasses 😎.

01 Sep 2017 16:18:38
Nicky, we were the 6th best defence in the PL last season and have kept 7 clean sheets in the last 9 games so our defence is indeed holding up. Can we improve? Yes BUT I'd rather we not panic buy a CB if we did not get the guy we wanted. Keep working with the defence we have and cut out the individual errors at set pieces and that should be fine. But I know many will still moan regardless so they can have at it.

01 Sep 2017 10:24:48
I know he won't be with us until next season, but I'm still esatatic with the Keita signing!

By the way, did anyone see his international goal yesterday?! Jeezze 😃😃 I can't wait'.

nice to know that we have a ready made replacement coming in if Can does decide to leave.

Really happy with the window actually and don't feel like we have huge amounts of work to do in the next couple of windows now, just a CB and we're fine.

Kieta will be good fun when he joins though!

01 Sep 2017 16:19:44
And FSG and Klopp should be congratulated for getting that deal done BUT all they seem to get is pathetic abuse cos they did not sign x or y player.

01 Sep 2017 10:18:49
Hello from Greece.

So, I would like to express my feelings and opinion after the end of the transfer window.

Liverpool fans: I hope some posts I see are ironic, cause I can't stand the idea that there are fans that prefer the transfer window to the period we are now getting into. I am really glad the circus is over and now we can enjoy the football of our team. Anyone who starts talking about the January transfer window is an idiot in my opinion.

Transfers: I think we would all like a top center half getting in, but decisions are decisions. We seem to plan on getting only players that are an improvement to what we have so far and I approve that stance. Hopefully this will reduce disastrous buys, like the one of Markovic. Many will say that anything would be an improvement to Lovren and Klavan, but I disagree. The way we play we rely on our CBs for only 2-3 times (maybe more, but the idea is very few) in a game. Anything other than a top-top CB will possibly have some problems from time to time. Other than that, all other transfers I think will be a success. Great work.

Players: Now let's support our players and hope that we have no serious injuries. We could be really competitive without no missing players. Who knows, maybe after this year we are again considered us one of the best in Europe and won't get laughed at any more by our idiotic mates who support other teams. For that we have to be great in Europe, maybe get into the last 8 of CL, and be in the first 3 places in the PL

Coutinho: For last I have left the hottest topic. My opinion is this. I am happy to forgive Coutinho. I understand they are professionals and won't the best for their careers. But I think the best for him now is Liverpool. So if he wants to stay this year and be open to change his mind and stay next summer for the years to come, I think we will all have open arms for him. If not, get rid now before the window closes. I don't want a player that will leave next year, even if we have shortages in his position. I understand the Can situation is critical as well. But there is hope in that case and that I accept.

Sorry, if some of my thoughts are not well-written. I am not a native speaker and I can't say it all the way I would like to. I am really looking forward to reading your opinions.

YNWA.

Love your post, Greek BUT we cannot sell Cou w/ o a replacement as mush as I want him gone so indeed, he's ours now and we will deal with him withing the family of LFC.

01 Sep 2017 10:09:43
Such as shame we couldn't recruit a solid CB this window to improve on the lads at the back. Could prove very costly if we continue to have the calamities in defense we've all seen for far too long now.

I do however think when all is said and done that football has changed dramatically over the last decade and with the exception of Serie A, there aren't many of the more traditional type CB's out there anymore. So aside from our failed approach for VVD, who could we have realistically brought in that would be a significant improvement on what's already in place?

With Can and Coutinho still with us and the addition of AOC, are we likely to see Can used back in the CB position?

Believable1 Unbelievable3

01 Sep 2017 10:16:25
No, we aren't, he is not a CB.

We also won't see AOC playing in goal, just to clear that up, in case there was any confusion. Oh and Moreno won't be Manager either.

01 Sep 2017 10:22:24
GF, Can is useless at CB as that experiment failed miserably under BR so why do that again when we have a true CB in Gomez ready to go? Also, Ed01 has sad that class CB's are very rare these days hence, teams who have them don't wanna sell and those who need them have to either pay up or improvise. City have spent near 200m on CB's alone and they are still crap defensively. Klopp wanted VVD and since he messed it up all on his own, Saints wouldn't sell at any price to anyone. What can you do? Klopp wanted VVD or nobody and I like that as we will not just settle for a warm body at CB. Now we will have to continue with improving those we have at the club now who mind you, have kept 7 clea sheets in the last 9 games in the PL BUT if people wanna go on and on about it then so be it.

01 Sep 2017 10:08:46
Everyone on this site has endured an emotional summer and I'm sure we all woke up after the deadline with mixed emotions. I've been coming to this site since 2011, supported this club since my nan bought me my first Hitachi sponsored shirt and I've seen some amazing things from the club over the years. It's a sport and entertainment business that has no global rival. I would like to thank the eds, the fans and all the posters, LFC or rival, for a thoroughly entertaining few months. Now let's get on with the football, good times ahead and enjoy it for the entertainment and thrill ride that it is. Nice one eds, come on Reds!

Top post, MJ74. The Ed's don't get enough credit for all they do for us on this forum. I know a lot more about LFC now than when I stumbled on this sight 5 years ago. We love you, Eds!

01 Sep 2017 10:00:06
Here goes I'm just going To come out and ask it.
Ed001 do you think lfc will sell P. Coutinho to Barcelona before the deadline in Spain tonight?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no, as we did not get a like for like replacement, I think we will refuse to let him go this summer.}

01 Sep 2017 10:21:48
Wow. I was actually hoping that we will sell him tonight.

01 Sep 2017 10:25:13
Smart move, Ed. Selling him w/ o a replacement is like screwing yourself twice over. Besides, Neymar just said that Cou would not regret not joining Barcelona anyway. Make of that what you will.

{Ed001's Note - Neymar has actually very publicly spent the last few days telling Coutinho not to go to Barca.}

01 Sep 2017 10:26:24
Cheers ed001, I'm not sure how many times I've hit the refresh button or went through the pages not only on this rumour site but all your other prem clubs and European section but I'm sure along with the millions of visitors you guys get on these sites you guys have been kept extremely busy. Many thanks to you and all the other eds who help us out, even ed25 and ed002 who let's say. can divide opinion. 🤣.

{Ed001's Note - it has been extremely busy!}

01 Sep 2017 10:43:55
Do you feel like Coutinho is listening to Neymar ed?

{Ed001's Note - not right now, no. This is one of those situations where someone has got it in their head they want to do something and will not listen to anyone else. He will have plenty of time to regret the decision afterwards anyway.}

01 Sep 2017 09:54:42
One for Ed02:

Can Loan moves be registred after the window shut? Just a general question nothing related to something.

i think i have seen loan moves go through after the window shut but im not too sure about that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not incoming.}

01 Sep 2017 09:58:16
Eds . can i ask, with the uk tranfer window closed can a deal be done say from spain whos window is still open that would include cash and player? Or would the player not be able to sign?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - we can not register anyone to play for us now until January.}

01 Sep 2017 09:55:55
So. Rumours for January's window. GO! ! :-)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 09:50:46
Hi eds and all,

Since the Spanish window only shuts today, could it be that;

Lemar and VVD deals are signed but NOT announced, subject to and contingent upon Coutinho deal going through between Barcelona and Liverpool?

If Do deal between Barca/ Liverpool then the other are invalid

Am not a contractual expert, but no one from LFC has yet shut the window in public, so perhaps not dead yet?

Above probably very unlikely contractually and impossible to keep from media.

Whatever the case is, let's remember all the positives we have going on, but lack of Upgrade on CB position is disappointing.

As in NFL. offense wins games but defense wins the title!

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - no.}

01 Sep 2017 09:46:25
Window still open in Spain so could still sell some players today!

Fingers crossed ssomeone takes Markovic off our hands! Maybe Migs can go also. Poor Ward deserves better than to be 3rd choice!

If Couts goes then we already have the Welsh Messi to replace him. Ben Woodburn!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 10:10:07
I really want Woodburn to get a good opportunity this season think he will grow to be a fantastic player.

01 Sep 2017 10:12:54
Ah the welsh Messi. I seem to recall that been said of Joe Allen.

01 Sep 2017 10:17:14
Woodburn will get chances this season, I just doubt it will be in midfield. Probably in the front 3 since Origi and Kent have gone out on loan and Sturridge is injury prone.

01 Sep 2017 10:44:39
Wasn't Joe Allen the Welsh Pirlo? The same Joe Allen who was in the team of the tournament at the Euros.

01 Sep 2017 11:26:12
It was the Welsh Xavi, wasn't it?

01 Sep 2017 11:54:09
What makes you think Ward is better than Migs? And when Karius is in a Liverpool shirt has he been really any better than Migs?
Klipperty Klopp sees them in training everyday. You cannot compare the form of Karius in German and Ward's form in Scotland with the pressures of must win every game demands of Liverpool in the Premier League.

01 Sep 2017 14:12:30
Yep that was it Toxxa, the Welsh Xavi.

iconicred Ward is being judged in helping Huddersfield get promotion to the EPL not on what he did 2 years ago. He's also about 6 years younger than Migs and has room to develop. I don't think anyone knows whether or not he will be better but we'd like to see him have a go.

01 Sep 2017 09:45:19
Hi eds/ ITK's, just a question for u all, is there anyone around with adequate knowledge to basically disect all that went down yesterday, in terms of who if anyone we held talks with, what were the issues etc? Overall I'm happy with the business we've conducted, would have loved Lemar but let's face it he was hardly a necessity, let's just hope no new cb doesn't come back to haunt us! Happy we can all get back to simply supporting the club now, onwards and upwards boys! YNWA.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

01 sep 2017 09:44:39
its the close of another transfer window and of course a lot of people aren't satisfied with our transfer window in general. a lot of people feel we could have done better or misses the opportunity to have a perfect transfer window, i don't think any club in europe got all the players they wanted without loosing some of their prized assets bar psg.
i think our window was good, not excellent but good and i think its a start of something good, from players making us their preference to us keeping our stabd on phil (hopefully) and not flinching from our main targets to get poor alternative.
i think liverpool football club despite their short coming as regards the tapping up which i think we've learnt from used this window to make a statement, to let world football know we are back.
it doesn't have to be perfect. it just has to be good enough and i think we were. credit where due edward, klopp, fsg, obrigado.
i see us comfortably getting top 4 and at least getting to the quater finals of the ucl. maybe a domestic cup too
hopefully we'll address our other shortcomings in subsequent windows and we'll be a force to reckon with again.
special shout out to ed o1,02,25 and macca
you guys have been awesome
heir to matuidi says so. blaaaahhh.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

01 Sep 2017 10:33:40
Spot on, Matuidi. No club gets all they want in a TW. Even Perisic snubbed Utd and City did not get Sanchez so we are all in the same boat, really. The main question is are we better than we were last summer overall and the answer is a resounding YES. We had issues at FB last season and now they are more than covered mostly from within. We had issues out wide and they are fixed. We needed depth in midfield and we are sorted. Our attack is improved and more devastating than last season. We sort Cou's head out and we are all set.

The defence? We all wanted a CB to come in BUT we messed that up with the tapping up crap so we will have to continue to improve those we have here and get better with every game mind you, this defence has kept 7 clean sheets in the last 9 PL games so we are on the right track. We just have to keep working hard on defending set pieces and being harder to break down as well esp. on the road vs big teams. all in all, we are way ahead of where we were when Klopp arrived and that should be exciting for all of us. Thanks to the Ed's as well for all they do as they make me smarter regarding LFC every day.

01 Sep 2017 09:40:04
Well I'm happy how our window went in all fairness
Salah will be a top signing
Ox is a great addition to the squad and will more than likely over take Milner
Robertson will come good
Solanke bags of potential and we will see that when the cup games arrive
Keita for next season - love it, great player shame about it being 12months off but if we would of tried to sign him next season it would of been more difficult
Regarding coutinho, I hope he goes for stupid money and we invest that in January

Vvd - wasn't expecting him so not really bothered

Onwards and upwards.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 10:35:34
Great assessment, KMAC. Our window was very good and we are way better than we were when Klopp arrived and that should be the standard.

01 Sep 2017 09:34:57
A big thank you to all the eds for making this site so compulsive, I must check it numerous times throughout the day, whether it's transfer time or not.
Just a quick question.
I know it's very early days, but Joe Gomez's natural position is a centre back.
Is there any immediate plans for Klopp to play him there as we didn't get VVD?
I thought he was brilliant against an albeit poor Arsenal side.
Would like to see TAA, GOMEZ, MATIP, ROBERTSON as our back four.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is a back up for there mate. He is (injuries and form depending) expected to play there in cup matches and provide injury cover there for the rest of the games. And thank you.}

01 Sep 2017 09:04:49
So uhh transfer window over is it, when's the next one? January? Oh damn, guess I better uhh go back to normal life heh? I mean how long can I stall this post till it's January, is it January yet? Umm guys please help.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 08:57:09
Morning all!

Interested to hear people's thoughts on the deadline day as a whole. Is anyone surprised that we didn't get VVD? Does Salah's price seem like a steal given the way prices as a whole rose over the course of the window? Finally, what do people make of Oxlade-Chamberlain?

Eds - according to Guillem Balague of Sky Sports, we were never interested in Thomas Lemar. Surely if that were the case it wouldn't have been so widely reported that we'd put two bids in for him? Apparently after the France game when asked about his future he replied, "We'll see what happens. For the moment I am a Monaco player and everything is going very well. " With that in mind, and given how he played last night, do you think we will retain interest and go again for him in January? Finally, do you think VVD is over and done with or could we see his name crop up again in the not-too-distant future?

Thanks.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Balague says a lot of stuff, then ten minutes later says the opposite on a regular basis, just like Sly Sports do. I was keeping a tab on it yesterday and there were at least 3 occasions yesterday, before I got too busy to keep an eye on things any more, where Sly Sports reported something from 'Sky Sources' then ten minutes later were reporting it was nonsense 'despite what the papers are saying'. In actuality the papers were reporting that Sly had said it anyway! The whole thing is a con and just better off ignoring the bull and switching the TV off.

I still expect us to look to replace Couts in January or next summer, whether Lemar will still be the choice I am not so sure about as the asking price is so high.

Impossible to say with VVD, the ball is all in Southampton's court. They look to be sticking to their guns and refusing to sell to us, so I would think it more likely we will move on and look elsewhere.}

01 Sep 2017 09:44:49
Replacing Coutinho is going to cost a lot money regardless. FSG and KLopp cannot penny pinch when trying to replace an important member of the squad. If not Lemar, then someone like Pulisic would be a great addition. But again the price will be closer to what Monaco wanted for Lemar. If Lemar's the guy Klopp wants, then we should pay up in Jan or next summer coz Coutinho will be gone next summer for sure.

{Ed001's Note - Pulisic is not interested in a move right now anyway, so the price is irrelevant. If he does decide he would like to leave, there are no shortage of clubs that would jump in.}

01 Sep 2017 09:52:09
Overall I think it's been a good window as long as there isn't a nasty surprise layer today. Not signing VVD has been disappointing but other than I don't have any complaints. We're stronger than we were last year. Even though I knew Sakho wasn't coming back I was still sad to see him go.

01 Sep 2017 10:06:39
Hi Ed. I know 92 million is a steep price, but I think it was worth paying if that fee was going to be completely funded by Coutinho's sale. What do you think?

{Ed001's Note - it doesn't really work like that, Barca would not have paid completely up front for starters. If he is seen as worth it by the club, then yes it is worth paying it, otherwise no, regardless of the sale or otherwise of Couts.}

01 Sep 2017 10:43:36
Thanks for your comments Ed. I always wanted Cou to stay at least one more season so we will have ample time to fully scout who we what to replace him. The money is irrelevant provided we think said replacement is worth it.

01 Sep 2017 08:41:13
Well that was a huge build up for nothing :0)

I guess today though we may see Markovic and Couts go to Spain. I do think that keeping him now though would be the difference between a title challenging team and a top 4 team.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 09:24:34
I can't even wish him to flop at Barcelona 😔😔. He is so kuch class and quality. We do need to recruit some Brazilians. They work their way up to the table by sheer hard work and quality.

01 Sep 2017 09:37:19
Maybe.

01 Sep 2017 10:44:26
Cou is going nowhere without a replacement. That would make no football sense.

01 Sep 2017 08:40:27
Ed, I was under the impression that the transfer window was for buying and SELLING players. If that is the case, then when our window closes, that should be the end of ALL buying and selling by EPL clubs. What is your thoughts on that.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - personally I think they should just scrap all the windows and return to the old system of being able to transfer players right up until March. It cut down on the hysteria because there was no rush or panic to get deals done and no one needed to stockpile huge squads of players just in case they get a rash of injuries. It is not like the media circus stops when the window shuts, it just starts on about the next window. The shorter the window, the greater the panic.}

01 Sep 2017 09:13:28
What about poor old Jim White though Ed? He'd have nothing left to live for. You know how much he likes creaming his pants on deadline day.

{Ed001's Note - that is the best reason I have heard of yet for scrapping it!}

01 Sep 2017 10:51:17
Pretty sure that's the Natalie Sawyer effect you're talking about Mr Dennis!

01 Sep 2017 08:36:26
Eds and all thank you for all your hard work. Can I ask has Markovic left or not?

{Ed001's Note - still here, though Spain's window is still open.}

Good morning People!

I for one choose to believe in our defence and especially Lovren. Being negative only demoralizes the players. Lovren actually might surprise us this season. The guy has always conducted himself profesionally even when some LFC "Fans" turn on him.

Yes, the guy needs to put in some extra hours in training to work on his concentration and aerial defending but the last thing he needs is us mocking him on social media.

Bottom line as long as Lovren pulls on a LFC shirt he has my full support and belief.

Positive Vibes People

01 Sep 2017 08:46:14
Leopards an spots come to mind.

{Ed001's Note - you know leopards are born with a different pattern on their fur to the one they have as adults right? So, in fact, leopards do change their spots.....}

01 Sep 2017 08:54:43
I have no problem with his personal conduct. It's his ability on the field which he has shown is unfortunately not good enough. He has my full support on the field, but sadly belief that he will consistently do the job is just blindness at this point.

01 Sep 2017 09:19:49
Lovren will not surprise anyone. You are living in the ultimate dream and wishful hindsight. He is a mistake waiting to happen. What's the shame in accepting a TRUTH and moving forward with it. Would you still have the same Opinion had we landed VVD? Hell NO!

01 Sep 2017 09:23:01
This site is no ace on zoology as well as football!
Love it 😁.

{Ed001's Note - I seem to always remember those useless bits of info. Great when playing Trivial Pursuit though!}

01 Sep 2017 22:35:01
Not when they are older ed1!

{Ed001's Note - if you mean when they are older then perhaps you should be more specific then. Maybe say older leopards never change their spots? It is a crap saying anyway as people do change, we all are totally different people from the person we were when we were younger.}

01 Sep 2017 08:29:36
A plea for perspective - I think the most important thing to come from the window is a significant shift in our status, the days of losing the likes of Willian and Sanchez could be over.

Van Dijk chose us over Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal and would already be playing for us if Blackpoolgate hadn't happened. A lesson hopefully learned. Lemar rejected Arsenal (and hence 'London') because he wanted to play for LFC. Keita will join us next year despite strong interest from others and was willing to commit now than wait what happens when the release fee could be triggered. AOC rejected huge offers from Chelsea and Arsenal to come here - let's support him with the passion he's already shown us. Solanke chose joining us over staying at Chelsea - this coup will only see its true value in a few years but I am excited at the player he could turn out to be. That speaks volumes.

So what about Phil wanting to leave, let's be pragmatic about that. As for Can, we hope he signs, if not we move on. If he's nt signing very soon then I can't see when, I'd imagine Juve or maybe Bayern may come sniffing in January on a pre-contract. But the future is great - TAA, Gomez, Kent, Woodburn, Ward will be hovering around the first team and are already getting some opportunities. Not sure how often Grujic will play but it's a long season. Can and Phil will be replaced if necessary and apart from a CB all looks very promising. Full backs sorted, plenty of midfield choices and if Sturridge can stay fit and Ings can slowly be reintegrated we'll have no problems covering for Firmino. Our season won't break down if Mane or Salah get injured but it would obviously have an effect but there is much to be optimistic about.

YNWA.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 08:49:38
Coutinho needs to do some serious apologising to all and sundry for his actions to even be considered back in the fold.

I do think the club need to work hard to get Can to sign as it is clear that he is developing into a top class footballer and we need to show him that he will be rewarded as such and he can realise his ambitions here.

Do any of the Eds know what specific sticking points there are over his contract (or is it a RTFP case? ) .

{Ed001's Note - he wanted more guarantees over his situation, which he has not been given, nor will he get. There were no issues other than he felt he was being phased out by the club.}

01 Sep 2017 08:50:29
My 2 issues about the VVD situation are, 1 everyone assumes Southampton would ever sell him and 2 would he have been more interested in LFC than others without the tapping up. I get the impression it has become a very complicated mess and I do understand the possibility the club wasn't going to bid unless Soton accepted a bid from someone else first. Ultimately the club has to stop the illegal or even dubious approaches and play straight down the line from now.

I do agree with everything else you say, this club has a manager people want to play for, has the money and reputation again that is attracting good names and most of all has some very good players currently in the squad, including Gomez and TAA in defence. Future still bright.

01 Sep 2017 09:16:34
Do you think this is something that can be resolved Ed001? There should be some middle ground? Given the fact that there is potentially 60 games a season (plus internationals), you would hardly want to play all of them and then go to a world cup would you?

{Ed001's Note - I think he has decided it is better to go being perfectly honest.}

01 Sep 2017 09:21:48
Future is great? Selling a 23 year old proper Center midfielder? I would send Hendo back to Sunderland and assure Emre Can for his position and games! Can is the future you should be talking about mate!

01 Sep 2017 09:25:04
I can understand why he might have thought that with the Keita bids but do you think it's the truth Ed? I thought Klopp really rated him so is he really viewing him as more of a backup player in your opinion?

{Ed001's Note - I think it is more Klopp sees him playing from deeper and he doesn't feel that is where he wants to be. For his own development as a player and his international future.}

01 Sep 2017 09:52:30
Cheers Ed

And thanks for all the work this window.

{Ed001's Note - you are very welcome SGR, though I am hoping I am wrong on this one and he decides to stay.}

01 Sep 2017 08:16:10
Macca, truly appreciate all your info. You were spot on with Nobby when we believed all hope was gone! VVD was such a shame as I believe this the signing we needed above all others. Deals are never done until they are done, things change all the time. Keep up the good work my friend.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 08:51:12
Second that, the guy can only let people know intent he can't guarantee how half a dozen people involved in every deal will definitely behave.

01 Sep 2017 07:51:19
Eds, wondering if you could answer something for me please. The Ox deal, it strikes me as though Arsenal really didn't want to sell him this year so we had decided to wait until next year to sign him on a free.

Did something happen to change Arsenals mind so late in the window? Did Oxs agent convince Chelsea to make a move and get a fee agreed so that Liverpool could match it, or was this simply a case of a decision being made very late by Arsenal which we took advantage of.

Personally, I'm happy with his signing. Young, talented and has the ability to improve vastly. Think he will fit in well to our counter attacking style. would have liked to have spent less on him, but not my money and we appear to have spent relatively little overall this summer so not exactly breaking the bank (may have spent a lot more on agents fees etc. )

Thanks for the great work this summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Ox had been trying to convince Arsene to sell him, but no one had actually made a bid until Chelsea stepped in and agreed a fee. It was not about his agent playing games, it was simply that Arsenal set a price that we were willing to pay, so we could then step in and make an offer, knowing it would be acceptable to them.}

01 Sep 2017 08:11:17
Hi eds can u think of any promising defenders comin through the youth ranks too call on in event of injuries I know there is talent up front who could get a chance like brewster, harry wilson, Woodburn, jan dhanda, and obviously ings, but no real defenders who have shown promise.

{Ed001's Note - Juanma, Gomez, TAA erm Lloyd Jones is still around. A couple of the young centre backs are highly rated, though I can't remember which ones off the top of my head, was it Phillips? I am not awake enough to remember who have been picked out right now sorry, but we do have a decent crop it is just a different kind of promise. Defenders never stand out in the same way, it is much easier to get excited about a player who scores a stunner than a defender who positions himself well and controls an opponent.}

01 Sep 2017 08:20:01
From what i was told by a frequenter of the corporate boxes at the Emirates (who claims to have gotten this from a board member) there was a final contract offer made to Chamberlain last Friday, which he rejected flatly and told them his intention was to join Liverpool specifically. He was never interested in anybody else. Hence him refusing to even negotiate personal terms with Chelsea.

Wenger then stupidly decided to play him against, which i would assume annoyed the Ox.

After that, what happened on the face of it is well documented but from the outside looking in. It looks like Wenger was prepared to stand firm and force him to stay and play, but the decision has gone above him for the Ox to be sold. That is purely speculation on my part though.

01 Sep 2017 08:28:15
Masterson is a very highly rated defender. Nathaniel Phillips and Lloyd Jones are about but i think both lack pace for our system.

{Ed001's Note - Masterson cheers.}

01 Sep 2017 08:45:37
You can be forgiven Ed, my head hurts just from reading these pages yesterday, let alone editing them! I would guess you probably only posted 50% of what was sent in as well! Plus, if we see a post that sounds like trash, we can skip or skim. You have to trawl through the whole rant for anything inappropriate, and then type replies!

{Ed001's Note - it certainly does get to you some days mate. It numbs the mind.}

01 Sep 2017 08:51:50
Thanks ed much appreciated we have cover for every position too a certain degree jus centre back is a light area so baffles me how we didn't get one in, guess we will have too get too january an have good luck with injuries, suspension etc, can u think of any central defenders who are out of contract who could b an emergency option, forgive me for bein desperate haha.

{Ed001's Note - we have Gomez and Klavan as back ups, 4 should be plenty unless we change to a back 3.}

01 Sep 2017 09:22:27
Well you're not out of the woods just yet mate. You've got 13 hours of Markovic and Coutinho questions, followed by at least a week of "who could we sign on a free" before the kids go back to school, and the adults get back to moaning about FSG, Klopp, Mignolet and Lovren until January!

Maybe you should start a e-petition to have the School Summer Holidays or the Summer Transfer window moved so that they don't coincide?

{Ed001's Note - now that is a good idea!}

1 disagree?

01 Sep 2017 07:31:53
How unlucky are Liverpool? Only "one" centre back left in the whole of European and world football and we can't bid for him! Very amateurish from the club. Anyway time to move on and see what the January window brings and hopefully everything is not lost by then. As one of the Ed's said we can't go back for VVD in January so hopefully the club have an alternative lined up by then.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

01 Sep 2017 08:22:36
Agree about the CB part. There were lots of decent options available if we stumped up the money, and putting all our eggs into the VVD basket after the tapping up fiasco reeks of amateurism and incompetence on Klopp and Co's part. Koulibaly, Manolas were all gettable for lesser fees and would be instant upgrades on Lovren and Klavan.
Now its important to weather the storm till Jan and make the necessary changes in defense.

01 Sep 2017 08:25:09
Considering the only big club selling a CB was us maybe there weren't any others for sale. As some of us keep saying City were chasing Evans and got told to do one, hardly spunds like loads of CBs up for sale.

01 Sep 2017 08:48:22
Maguire, were you living under a rock when Klopp tapped up this "CB" and his club have us by the gonads right now and the owners had to step in to stop the PR bleeding? Ed02 has said repeatedly that Saints won't sell to us and Ed01 said that Saints needs to let us know if we can still bid for him and they did not and said he is not for sale at any price to anyone. You're welcome.

01 Sep 2017 08:59:41
Indian Buzzer do you know for a fact those players were for sale and the price was less than a player whose price was never agreed - and if so how? Also naming 2 doesn't constitute lots, the word you use in the previous sentence. People need to stop exaggerating about it. I don't know VVD was the best option, I'm half disappointed and half happy the club didn't spend 70, 80 or whatever million to sign him, I remember Ed01 said Koulibaly was a better option. BUT, there is absolutely no guarantee any top CB was available and the game isn't awash with good, experienced and for sale options there. The club will just have to develop the potential talent it paid good money for, Gomez and get something out of the players who were highly rated when signed, Lovren and Matip. And that last bit is important. Both Lovren and Matip were highly rated before signing and when first signed, not world class but highly rated, so if they're no cutting it then anyone with sense will look at other "rated" CBs supposedly better than them and wonder if they will turn out to be less than expected as well. Correct me if I am wrong people but I don't think any top centre backs changed hands during this window - please stop before you type Sakho, he was part of our weak defence when he played, so doesn't count.

{Ed001's Note - Man City couldn't even afford to buy a centre back! The only one that I can remember moving was Bonnucci from Juve to Milan and he was never coming to England.}

01 Sep 2017 09:28:08
Did you even read my post Bingo Red or did you just see the letters VVD and comment? I am alluding to the fact that we put all our eggs in one basket. Look up the word sarcasm. By the way you're welcome.

01 Sep 2017 07:31:29
It is as it is. Let's forget about the football and start counting the days again - only 122 to go!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 07:37:00
121 mate 😄😄.

01 Sep 2017 10:40:24
30 + 31 = 61 + 30 = 91 + 31 = 122 (mate? )

01 Sep 2017 07:25:58
Think we should agree to sell Pip to Barcelona tomorrow after their window shuts.

That way we get the big £££ and he is with us until January so 1) we can line up a replacement 2) we stood our ground which will hopefully stop others trying to leave this way.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

01 Sep 2017 08:49:09
Selling Cou without a replacement is dumb business and even Klopp is not that stupid, IMO.

01 Sep 2017 09:30:38
We have replacements already signed in Salah and Ox - you can argue if good enough or not but we don't lack for players.

01 Sep 2017 21:17:33
I meant a direct replacement in the no. 10 role, SG as that is where Cou would be playing this season.

01 Sep 2017 07:13:52
Hi eds what time does the Spanish transfer window shut?
Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - midnight Central European Time. If I remember correctly that is 11pm BST but I am not good at keeping track of time zones.}

01 Sep 2017 06:56:55
Hi Eds,

This is maybe more for Ed01 or even SquareTomato if around. Seeing as we didn't sign a centre back, I think most fans are hoping Gomez gets a shot at the centre back position alongside Matip at some juncture. I saw a lot of posts calling for a loud, commanding centre back who can properly organise the back four and take control when we are being sloppy, like players like Cahill and Kompany would. I know he's still young, but is that in his personality and game? I saw he's been made England u21 captain so surely has some leadership qualities. i guess it's a hard question, if you could possibly shed some light on how he's viewed on and off the pitch in terms of being a future leader, and having those dominant skills?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - from what I was told by former coaches at Charlton, it is possible he could develop that way. They believed he was a future captain, more than one actually said they saw him as a future England captain.}

01 Sep 2017 08:13:52
He has never embarrassed himself when he has played in the first team, he has the physique and technical ability to be a very good centre half, the question is whether he has the mentality and drive to be a top class centre back. I tend to think that getting through the injury problems that he has had takes serious mental strength and character so it is a good indicator. He seems to be one of those lads who is grounded and everyone has good things to say about, which is good as it means he is focused on his football and not the circus that can follow it.

01 Sep 2017 08:31:36
Cheers for the reply, good to hear!

01 Sep 2017 09:01:52
Considering the age when signed and Charlton weren't happy to lose him he must have had something about him and considering club were prepared to take a shot at him out of position at such a young age again suggests something there - although this was the BR era of not caring what position you were signed for you're now the physio selection practice.

01 Sep 2017 06:54:26
Good morning all - really excited about today. I got plenty of rest yesterday and ignored the tv but I'm up nice and early for today's transfer deadline day. Being a Friday as well makes so much better. So let's see who we get. I reackon VVD and lemar. anyone?

Believable3 Unbelievable4

01 Sep 2017 07:27:51
We're going to sign Carlos Kickaballski, the record goal scoring goalkeeper for £175 million.

01 Sep 2017 06:52:11
Eds, i know its generally harder to do business in january and many clubs are reluctant to sell so i am asking hypothetically.
If for example we where to keep coutinho until january and the club maintened its interest in lemar, woupd we be allowed to speak to monaco about lemar leading up to the window so they can asses their options and help move business along.
I guess by january we will have moved on from lemar anyway but this could relate to any player as coutinho is going to be unhappy and after seeing him in a new light over the past few weeks wouldn't be surprised if he acted like a pissy little child.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it depends on the club seeking permission etc but of course clubs can get deals done and completed outside of the window even. It is purely that registration cannot be transferred outside of a transfer window.}

01 Sep 2017 07:07:12
You reckon we will look to do replace phil in jan or wait til summer? A season is a long long time to keep a sulking player.

{Ed001's Note - the search is always ongoing for better players to come in mate.}

01 Sep 2017 09:05:20
On that subject Ed001, do you think we need to directly replace Coutinho, have we already got the necessary players there or is it more a case of a higher level of squad ability is still needed? Also what is your view of where the squad is now, do you think it is better now than end of last season, even without Coutinho? Sorry for all the questions but you seem to have a level headed approach compared to some on here with agendas about players, owners and managers they want to play out.

{Ed001's Note - it would be a nice option to have, someone with his ability, in some games. I don't see it as essential to remain competitive though. We have improved and given the team more attacking options, whether he stays or leaves. We now have a genuine threat from the fullback positions, with a pair of fullbacks that can play good crosses and we have someone who can deliver quality delivery from a corner in TAA. We do look in a much better position than the start of last season.}

01 Sep 2017 10:16:01
Thanks Ed001 and thanks to all of you for the huge amount of patience you've shown during the last week or two, must have been very trying times.

{Ed001's Note - it certainly was extremely trying at times! Thank you.}

01 Sep 2017 06:46:23
Can PC still go Eds or is that it now our window is shut.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - yes he can still go.}

01 Sep 2017 06:39:02
Hi ed, how would you rate Edwards first transfer window then.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - hard to tell, but he was not at fault for not getting VVD, he still managed to get Keita and Salah despite the obstructions placed by the way we had attempted to do business. He got Robertson, Solanke and Oxlade-Chamberlain done and got rid of Sakho. I have to say this window was a major improvement on the period with Ayre in charge of dealings.}

01 Sep 2017 06:59:04
Hi Ed, why was ayre so bad with dealings? Was he just an arse to negotiate with?

{Ed001's Note - he came from a different environment, with no time pressure in negotiations, in fact quite the opposite, patience was more important in his negotiations to get deals done. When he had to try and work within time constraints, he struggled badly and just annoyed people with silly offers.}

01 Sep 2017 07:01:26
Yes! Except not planning enough on the Coutinho saga as well not offloading Markovic!

01 Sep 2017 07:41:38
Spot on, Ed. Our window is very good for us and our squad has been very well improved even tho, we could always do better so Edwards gets a B grade, for me. VVD is all to blame for the VVD saga and not Edwards. As for Cou's replacement, we made a stand and Klopp wanted to keep him and FSG backed him to the very time, he changed his mind and wanted rid. Can't blame anyone for that, IMO.

01 Sep 2017 08:51:52
Why is klopp saying in public then it's not his decision, " I have bosses who'll decide" if he's sold or not, you have the club feeding Pearce, Joyce bascombe that he won't be sold, whatever the truth is there's some bull flying out of club, if couts is sold it's massive profits for fsg while we lose quality and don't replace it, it's not about replacing it even but making sure we've improved after the wind closes, we haven't,

{Ed001's Note - how would it be massive profits for FSG? The massive profit would be for LFC, who have a much more massive debt within the FSG group from running at a massive loss for so many years.}

01 Sep 2017 21:23:15
The profits goes to LFC, not FSG.

01 Sep 2017 06:15:49
Overall I reckon we had a pretty decent transfer window.

Klopp managed to land two of his major targets, Ox and Keita plus we beat the likes of Chelsea to Ox. It shows that the tables are turning and Liverpool are back in business.

We needed a proper leader at the back and mucked up the VVD situation but what we have also seen now is that Klopp is not going to bring any players in unless it is a player he really wants as there is no point in filling the squad with players who ain't good enough.

Robertson, Solanke, Salah, AOC and Keita for next season. Our squad has been improved with these additions.

Been reading through the posts and many throwing their toys saying OX is sh*te and a waste of money "what was Klopp thinking" etc etc.

Let's not forget that Ox hardly started under Wenger. Read something a couple of days ago that he never started more than 17 times a season under Wenger or something like that but ended up being one of their most creative players when looking at the overall minutes he played under Wenger.

Ox was also playing for a manager, Wenger, who has completely lost the plot and has for years now. The players at Arsenal do not seem to give a damn about what happens on the pitch as they have a manager who is failing to run the show.

Ox under Klopp will thrive. In Ox we have a player with strength, pace, has goals and assists in him too. Once his confidence is up and running, I believe he will become a very important player for us.

The only thing now is, will Coutinho stay or go? As far as I am concerened he must go but it is time the club stands it's ground and shows each and every other player that LFC will not bow down to player demands anymore so Coutinho very well might stay and will send out a message to all our players that player power can be shoved straight up the behind. Coutinho might very well become an example and warning to other players if he stays.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

01 Sep 2017 06:33:15
If he doesn't play again then other than satisfying your ego this decision wouldn't benefit the club. To turn down a potential €160 mill is a massive gamble ( I believe the club thinks he will come back and start playing ) . I am utterly disappointed about our poor planning in not finding solutions to the puzzle i. e. Coutinho!

{Ed001's Note - it benefits the club if it stops players doing this in future to it.}

01 Sep 2017 06:38:05
Great post, there are lots of reasons to be positive going forward. I also think that Oxlaide-Chamberlain will thrive under Klopp and will go up to the next level now he is out of the comfortable Arsenal environment.

01 Sep 2017 07:03:09
Not sure you beat Chelsea to the signing because your now more attractive, it's quite clear he thinks he's got more chance of game time at Liverpool.

{Ed001's Note - no it is not and that is nothing to do with it. The lad joined Liverpool for one reason only - it is his boyhood club and the achievement of a dream. With the size of Chelsea's squad, it is arguable that he probably had a lot more chance of game time with them.}

01 Sep 2017 07:32:48
Am I allowed to say something about AOX now that he has officially signed for Liverpool? I can see many blaming Arsenal, Wenger and environment for his lack of ability. Arsesnal for two good years did not had a CM and AOX couldn't cement a place there! With Santo out injured Wenger played almost everyone in that role except AOX says a lot!

{Ed001's Note - about who though Harry? Wenger or Ox? Because Wenger thinks Xhaka is world class, but everyone can see he is a clogger that would struggle to get in a Sunday league team, so you would be foolish to judge a player based on what Wenger thinks of them.}

01 Sep 2017 07:47:40
Stand, Conte does not sign players that he thinks he cannot use. Being attractive is subjective really, as Ox has shown. We were more attractive to him than Chelsea as he had a chance to join his boyhood club and took a massive pay cut to join us. Even money would not sway him. I'm not his biggest fan BUT the fact that he made every effort to join us at least shows that he will be more determined to improve and he'd better do so as Klopp despises slouches and flunkies. Ask Sahko, Ibe, Balotelli and Benteke.

{Ed001's Note - Ibe's problem was he struggled to understand his instructions. He tried but it just seemed to be going in one ear and out of the other, as Eddie Howe is finding out at Bournemouth. Ibe probably needs a manager like Pulis, who will use repetition to ensure players understand his instructions.}

01 Sep 2017 07:59:56
Harry, why would you take the opinion of a coach who benched a striker like Lacazette in a big game as being important? wenger is a has-been and a dictator and deserves all the bullocking he's getting. As for Xaka, Xaka would not make an indoor league team as he is bang awful. Only Wenger thinks he is world class, which tells you all you need to know about how deluded he is.

01 Sep 2017 08:51:20
Prolly right on the Ibe tip, Ed.

{Ed001's Note - someone said to me the other day that it was a similar thing with Ollie Burke, the lad that left Nottingham Forest to go to RB Leipzig and returned to English footie to join the Baggies this summer. Apparently they nicknamed him the blank harddrive or something similar, because each time he went out on a pitch it was like someone had wiped all the instructions off the disk and he had no idea what his instructions were. Even if his instructions were the same every time!}

01 Sep 2017 21:20:39
I know Burke, Ed and he was hailed as the next big thing in Scottish football but hey, there's that "great British talent" for you, I guess Ed. But don't worry, French players are not known to be that smart either.

01 Sep 2017 06:03:54
With origi kent ojo all gone and lallana injured i think now we lack depth for wings in cup games. so i think Markovic might be given chances.
on the good side it would mean good number chances for TAA, grujic and woodburn. While all three of origi kent and ojo hope to get good returns from their respective loan deals. so its good all around everybody gets chances.
PS - I think OX will start against city :) but i don't know who they will drop.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - Ox provides cover on the wings too remember.}

01 Sep 2017 07:08:14
Oh yes he has the pace. I hope now that he has got the move he wanted OX proves doubters wrong. He is definitely a physical specimen and i think he can be the player he wants to be at Liverpool. he hasn't been great at arsenal but he has had some fabulous performances albeit few and far in between.
I think he will prove to be a great buy for us.

01 Sep 2017 07:50:56
Ox was brought in to cover the wings. Origi was let go on loan as Studge is staying hence, his chances were blocked, per Ed01 (as he needs to play games to improve and make the Belgian group for Russia) . Cou will stay and I hope Ox proves me wrong and maybe cos he made huge efforts to come to us, he will up his game and his approach to the game.

01 Sep 2017 05:54:34
Roll on January . it's only 4 months away!
Think we can cope until then!

Thought we'd left things too late - but hen again loads of clubs did - bit like last minute Xmas shopping when the shops are closing!

As for PC - would still take the money and let him go. the lad isn't like Suarez in terms of having a nasty, competitive streak, that knuckled down in his last season.

But part of me wants Klopp and FSG to stick two fingers up at Barcelona and stick PC in the reserves for a while for his behaviour.

Bit torn on this one as we will need him - at least until January now at least!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 06:01:13
If he goes to reserves then you could see Sky broadcasting most of the matches from reserve league. He is simply that good mate! like you I am too disappointed we made everything late and never actually tried finding a player that comes close to him!

{Ed001's Note - there are not many players that are good enough to replace him, that is the problem.}

01 Sep 2017 06:23:10
That's the issue mate! He is one of those player your could genuinely say irreplacable. Probably the most important player after Xabi Alonso! He makes the game so easy.

{Ed001's Note - not so sure about that.}

01 Sep 2017 07:54:35
Overboard as usual, Harry. Cou is our best player and even tho, he has been a prat, he is still ours as we can't sell w/ o a replacement as that is bad business. Stick him in the reserves and deal with him the same way we dealt with Suarez (apology, fine, and training alone) and all should be fine.

01 Sep 2017 08:54:04
Mane is our best player I think! We've not missed pipco! all this transfer might turn out to be a blessing he might give us one more year and play out of his skin and leave with some winners medals then get his big move!

01 Sep 2017 09:15:19
I actually think we won't struggle as much in terms of results and performance when Coutinho leaves as we did wth Suarez. Like or dislike his personality Suarez not only had amazing ball control and finishing but his threat opened up a different world for Sturridge and scared the crap out of teams. Coutinho is a different position and player anyway but I think the club has enough players to ensure the gap isn't exposed, maybe not as creative but Mane, Salah and Firminho as a trio will create, will score, will pin opposition sides back and force them to be more defensive and as I say I don't think the level of performance or results will be significantly changed. Yes there is the need to keep those 3 fit but then Coutinho has had niggles and injuries as well so more a matter of having quality of cover now.

01 Sep 2017 05:52:29
Thank God the wimdow is closed now. Next game feel so far off. Hate these international breaks. Now to beat City and we can challenge for top spot before halfway break.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 06:34:24
Agree! Having an international break at this point in the season is such a buzzkill. Watching england lumber to victory over Malta will be fun though? Won't it? .

01 Sep 2017 07:12:54
i think its more of a problem it came at such a crucial stage of our season, we will loose the momentum from arsenal rout, and these International games tire the players because of long travels.
if there weren't no break we would have killed city, now i think it will be a very close game.

01 Sep 2017 07:40:08
On the plus side at least Coutinho got some match practice and was able to work on his fitness.

01 Sep 2017 07:56:21
It killed our momentum really as we were on a high after winning 4 in a row scoring 11 goals and thrashing Hof and Arsenal scoring 8 goals. But City is a big game so we should not have an issue getting up for it.

01 Sep 2017 05:47:11
Ed001.Do you still expect coutinho to leave today considering we could not get the lemar deal over the line?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, it now seems unlikely that he would go as we haven't replaced him but it is in Klopp's hands. He is the one that will make the decision. In my opinion I don't think he will let him go without a replacement. It is his decision, so I can't say for sure, only he will know for sure.}

01 Sep 2017 08:08:27
I want Cou out like the next guy as well but it would be dumb to sell him w/ o a replacement and I don't think Klopp will be dumb enough to do that except he thinks we can cope without him. I hope we keep him cos we simply don't know how we will cope w/ o him BUT we know what we get from him when he plays. We shall see.

01 Sep 2017 10:21:28
Out of interest is there any suggestion that what happens with him will impact on Firminho?

{Ed001's Note - no, don't worry.}

01 Sep 2017 05:15:59
Eds wanted to ask you for exchange to take place should the window be open at both the countries?

P. s. It has nothing to do with pipco😅

Also we shouldn't slate lfc for transfers. we have strengthened our squad. yes defense is very poor in centre but let's remember that in all other positions we are way better than last years. gk too if you include ward😜i really want to see how ward performes when he is given a run. hopefully he will perform very well and we will hav a dfns wch leavs arnd 40 goals instd of 50😅😅😅our attack may neutralise our defense then. if its arnd 50 then the prob arises right? well so far so good its lik giving 1 goals per game😂😂😂well whenever lovren has the ball with him i do get scared to death but now the window is closed let's get behind klipperty and all the lads. hopefully he has learnt his lessen and won't tap anyone next year😕😕😕.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - we can not register any players now the window is shut.}

01 Sep 2017 05:14:36
Coutinho was absolutely brilliant yesterday for Brazil. Just ran the show. **** he doesn't want to play for us! What a player! When he has the ball you sense he will make something from it! Only genius does it. You hate him but the boy is supremely talented.
Cmon Ed. Tell me he will not sulk and do a Suarez. Our chances for winning any trophy solely depends on him.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea what he would do.}

01 Sep 2017 05:36:28
I just hope he doesn't sulk and give us one more seasonZ he is so much blessed with quality. Best player in the league by a long stretch. He took the spotlight from Neymar yesterday. I can understand why Barcelona are adamant on him. Why does it always happen with us Ed01.😒😒😔😔😔. You ll simply fall for the game watching him on the pitch, don't you!

Cmon Klopp, drop your ego and make up with him and then assure him to sell him next summer for whatvever the price is!

{Ed001's Note - it is not about ego, it is about Coutinho's actions. If he acts like a 2 year old throwing a tantrum, then you can't give into his tantrums or you reinforce the behaviour. Same with Southampton with VVD and so on around the world. Players are on the verge of destroying the game and some balance needs to be brought back in before it is too late.}

01 Sep 2017 06:03:34
Why did we not fine him Ed01. Or any kind of actions against a player that went on for a strike? We still have a glimmer of hope that he will come back and do what he is best at! That's destroying teams with his skills!

{Ed001's Note - the club have an internal disciplinary procedure they have to follow and they will do so.}

01 Sep 2017 06:33:16
Agree with that Ed you can't encourage the sort of behaviour both Coutinho and Van Dyke have been guilty of - it is very disrespectful to their clubs and smacks of immaturity. I don't really mind what we do with Coutinho one way or the other, I just want the club moving in the right direction and, for the large part, it seems that it is.

01 Sep 2017 07:56:42
There is certain amount of karma about it.

01 Sep 2017 08:15:45
I'm sorry, Harry but are you blaming Klopp's ego for Cou's mess? Are you smoking Emirates? Klopp has nothing to apologize for nor does he have to make up with Cou. It is Cou who has to make up with him and trust me, he has a LOT to make up for. He is very talented. Shocker! We already knew that, Sherlock so maybe, you were the only one who just discovered that. We will not be bullied by any player and Klopp with the backing of the owners, will have the final say on his case and I'm happy about that.

Also, on one hand you say he should put his ego to the side and make up with him and on the other, you blame Klopp for not having planned for a replacement early enough. Klopp can do nothing right in your eyes, can he? Everything is always his fault. You talk a bunch of crap on here, really.

01 Sep 2017 05:04:37
We didn't manage to sell Marovic, eds do you think Klopp might use him in cup games or when he needs rotation to rest others? I know that Klopp publicy told that Lazar is free to go but as he will remain here at this moment is there any chance?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - only if he proves himself worth the chance and we need to rest others. It is more likely we just wait and try again to offload him in January, unless a foreign club takes him today.}

01 Sep 2017 06:53:16
We've really messed up markovic bad, sign him when he's 20, play him out of position for a year then ship him off to wherever we damn feel like.

01 Sep 2017 07:45:37
Hes produced some pretty insipid performances too, welshred. he's not exactly been forcing his way into the manager's plans.

01 Sep 2017 11:37:21
Oh yeah definitely but I just mean to take a 20 year old out of his comfort zone and then misuse him, not really give him a fair crack at the whip? But you have a point.

03 Sep 2017 02:15:37
so It seems he is included in the squad for the prem league, he may have his chance.

01 Sep 2017 03:58:30
Watched Brazil game. I am sure Barcelona will make one more bid for him. After he came off the bench he turned the atmosphere. So much creativity in the midfield and score one goal. That's why we want to keep him. If stay with us happily and give his best every day I am sure we can challenge for title and make semi in CL too.

Any chance anything is going to happen Ed001?

Or are we definitely making no more moves?

{Ed001's Note - sorry I went to bed.}

Happy with that window, squad is stronger and that's what counts, even after coutinho leaves tomorrow.

Really?

01 Sep 2017 08:18:16
Yes really, Sirtoto.

01 Sep 2017 00:45:38
Wanna ask any of the Eds.

Am I right in saying that, with the difference in time for the closing of transfer windows across Europe and England's already shut, we can expect some outgoings but not incomings even if the players are from the country that are yet to close its transfer windows? Right?

Thanks in advance to all you Eds.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

01 Sep 2017 00:08:37
Am I right in assuming that if Coutinho were to go tomorrow, that a player exchange could not happen, since our window is closed. I feel like he will stay, before I get slaughtered. Just a question.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 07:59:59
We can't register the player outside the window so no exchange.

01 Sep 2017 00:03:53
Ed. Spanish transfer ends tommorrow does that mean couts can go and we can have a player as part of the deal? I thought players had to be registered or is this not the case.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nope.}

01 Sep 2017 02:09:56
Sorry Ed but assume you meant nope to 'we can have a player as part of the deal'

{Ed002's Note - The transfer window will be closed for Liverpool signing players.}

31 Aug 2017 23:52:21
Cheers to the Eds for the work over the last couple of weeks. Now its closed and I have had my pout that we didn't sign a CB, can't wait to get international break out of the way and back to the action.

31 Aug 2017 23:46:46
Think the eds are all taking a well earned break but if anyone's around, what happens now with Markovic?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 05:55:56
he tries in training and if we need options in league cup, lesser opponents in CL he gets his chance. BTW we have sent Kent and origi on loan so we have only salah and mane as wingers. lallana is injured till maybe December. so that should help markovic's cause. But its upto him, LFC have held on to pricing him out of a deal, now he has to sit with us till Januar.
i can't help but feel we have screwed his career but much of it owes down to him not taking his chance either.

31 Aug 2017 23:33:04
Hi Eds isn't the window still open till 1an for domestic transfers?

Just wondering Eds how close we got to the Lemar deal if at all; would we have any ground work done now that would lead us to be in pole position to sign him in the future?

Thanks for all your patience and time. It's the best site for LFC by some distance.

Love our team we have lots of forward options, a centre back would of been nice but not many available, is hyppia still around lol ☺.

01 Sep 2017 00:51:53
I would like to see quality players come in but I really do think €100 was just too much. I know the prices have been inflated but there are only a handful of players I'd put in that price bracket and I'm afraid he's not one of them. As good as VVD may be I also do think we could consider our options.

I know I will be, Mikey.

01 Sep 2017 00:42:19
FSG got their cheque book out and backed Klopp more than I ever imagined they would with massive bids for players.
We snapped up Naby Kieta, got a new lb which should perk Moreno up which thus far looks like it's working.
Signed Salah, who has hit the ground running (v. fast) and got Oxlade in which does improve the squad depth.
A cb would've been nice but Lovren, Matip, Gomez, Klaven will suffice and what's to say we haven't got anyone in the reserves/ academy in an emergency?
January is there if we're seriously struggling with defending and need recruits.
We kept Coutinho and Can, Lallana to come back, Sturridge hasn't broke a nail for a couple weeks. top player if he stays fit.

Back in the Champions league proper, playing lovely football atm. we can't be perfect, no team is.
I'm optimistic this season will be great!
Bore off all the doom and gloomers, it could be worse. We could support Arsenal! 😉.

We haven't signed Keita, we've got an agreement to sign him next summer. Im pleased with the signings we've made but gutted about the signings we haven't made. Again, we've got a low net spend, which is a good thing from a business POV, but when you consider our main weakness (IMO) was at GK and CB we've not addressed them. I think the players we've bought will do well, but to say FSG backed Klopp more than ever imagined is pushing it to the extreme. We've heard lots of talk of Liverpool getting ready to spend big this window but it hasn't happened.

01 Sep 2017 01:33:19
you're a breathe of fresh air on these pages.

01 Sep 2017 08:23:25
Spot on, Nomisyoung. Tommy, FSG have been backing all the managers under their tenure with loads of cash and Klopp is no different and had RBL and Saints wanted to sell VVD and Keita this window, they would have been here by now BUT don't let facts get in the way of a good moan, tho.

01 Sep 2017 00:38:22
I'm pleased with our signings this summer. Robertson has played well and will be a good for us when fully fit.
Solanke has impressed klopp that much that origi has had to go out on loan to get first team opportunities.
Salah is playing like he has been here for years. His pace is lethal.
Chamberlain is a raw talent and klopp can improve him like he has with other players.

Yes we could of improved the centre back area but VVD wasn't obtainable. No point buying someone of klopp doesn't want them and he is happy with the players he got at the moment. Also no point buying Lemar if coutinho is staying, let's just hope he doesn't go tomorrow and he can play for us at a level like he did last year. Barcelona have not signed any one that would mean they wouldn't come back in for him next year yet.

Trent and Gomez are playing well. Hopefully went clyne comes back it will mean Gomez will get a chance at centre back then maybe not need VVD at all. Moreno has played well so far this season. Mane is playing better on the left. Firming has upped his game. Sturridge is looking fit. Can is looking amazing at the moment ( let's hope we can sort his contract out) .

Also we got keita for £55mil ready for next season. Less than we bid for this summer, and before other clubs can jump in for him next summer.

So all in all it's not been perfect but it's been a good summer. Better than arsenals, spurs and Chelsea's.

Here here, a positive post. Harrumph.

01 Sep 2017 03:36:13
Agree with your positive post although the fact that Barcelona have signed anyone and their transfer window is still open, is ominous.

01 Sep 2017 08:26:57
OP, I agree with your post bar the Origi tip. ed 01 has said that Origi was to be kept IF Studge left and since he did not go, Origi would get less chances. Solanke arriving has nothing to do with Origi's departure (he needs to be playing and is more proven than Solanke with 22 goals in two seasons and Solanke is yet to start a senior game) . Origi is competing with Studge, not Solanke as Solanke is behind Studge and Origi in that order. Apart from this clarification, your post is awesome.

{Ed001's Note - actually Solanke had moved himself ahead of Origi in preseason, which is what convinced Origi he needed to go out on loan.}

01 Sep 2017 00:01:05
Right, now that's over with, let's get fully behind the owners, manager and the boys on the field, on what should be an interesting, competitive and entertaining season! Time to unite and cheer our lads onto some success.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

31 Aug 2017 23:47:49
Chemistry and morale are huge ingredients for success and the lads seem to be playing well with and FOR each other at the moment. The spirit seems to be high and players are showing signs of good progress (Can, Hendo, Gini, Joe, TAA etc) . I for one am pleased Klopp and co. didn't panic buy or settle as we've all seen how that's worked for us in the past 😏. Did we improve in some areas? Certainly. Did we get it all right? Probably not, but I have faith we're still going to be a force and not a farce 😉. I'm just glad we didn't get held to the fire for the VVD incident and hopefully we've learned from that and will do the right things going forward. A bit torn about Couts and hopeful we sort out Emre's future. I'm choosing optimism over doom and gloom. Massive shout to the Ed's for all you've done and endure during these times of absolute madness 🙌🏻.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 00:44:03
Emre is a priority but don't feel he will sign.

I hope Gomez gets a run at cb could save a few quid.

01 Sep 2017 00:57:52
Suely the best thing for team morale was for couts to go? I think the worst thing we done this summer was to deny the lad his dream move. Most other moves we have made are positive but couts should have gone. No way i can cheer him on next time i visit anfield.

01 Sep 2017 08:29:52
Great post, OP. Irish, we did not deny him his move. We did not get a replacement and even tho, I want him gone too, selling without a replacement is just stupid. Arsenal did not sell Sanchez cos they did not get a replacement so why should we sell Cou without one?

31 Aug 2017 23:42:08
I wonder what Klopp is thinking for CB. Perhaps use Can again? Gomez almost certainly has to play CB. Imagine one of Lovren or Matip get injured. Would be crisis. Was really hoping VVD was still coming.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

01 Sep 2017 00:39:32
Long time reader, first time poster.

I've been wondering if Klopp is getting Gomez more integrated into the team and match fit by rotating him in the RB while Clyne is still injured. Once Clyne is back he and TAA can rotate at RB and Gomez will slot into CB to rotate there. Easing him into it as such.

01 Sep 2017 00:47:21
Think he thinks apart from vvd nobody else was that much better than what we have.

I also think the way we play leaves the back four exposed, vvd would have helped but don't think he would have solved the issue.

Drills drills and more drills. Never know he may go to 3 at the back with emre.

01 Sep 2017 08:31:58
It was VVD or nothing for Klopp at CB and that is the way to go. No more panic buys as I'm sick of them. Give Gomez a go and keep working on defending set pieces and better communication as that is our issue. No CB would fix all our issues as it is more complicated than that.

31 Aug 2017 23:46:37
Would anyone happen to know the total amount we spent; and the total amount we brought in this window?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

01 Sep 2017 00:53:11

Andrew Roberston - Hull City - £8million

Kevin Stewart - Hull - Undisclosed

Ryan Fulton - Hamilton - Free

Conor Randall - Hearts - Loan

Pedro Chirivella - Willem II - Loan

01 Sep 2017 04:49:02
you missed Sakho out for 26mil.

01 Sep 2017 07:00:46
Ed002 probably knows but I doubt anyone else does 🤝.

31 Aug 2017 23:40:10
Pretty disappointed we didn't match Arsenal's bid for Lemar, we've waited years to be able to attract players of his calibre, who rejected Arsenal to join us. Could be a big opportunity missed.

Believable3 Unbelievable10

01 Sep 2017 01:14:17
£98m? Get a grip.

31 Aug 2017 23:15:35
Ed’s
There’s an awful lot of negativity recently regarding who we brought in, but seriously look at the current squad now after all the Ins and outs (couts not included ) surely we have a squad that’s very capable of seriously challenging for the title this season. There’s a hell of a lot of talent there. Yes we could have done with a top class CB but that’s the world we live in Klopp f. d up, fine get over that one guys. 7 points from 3 games in the champions league and little or no injuries just one or two who need to improve on their fitness because we have minimum 2 games a week now.

I can seriously see us doing serious damage this year on 1 condition.

Please keep Mignolet on the bench that’s all I ask and if a player screws up once or twice lay off the guy. For example Karius he had a torrid time from the fans and he’s 10 times the keeper mingolet is.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

{Ed007's Note - Seriously?}

01 Sep 2017 00:31:56
Ed did you reply the same way when Rodgers was appointed to Celtic?

{Ed007's Note - Yes, except I was naked. I'm not naked just now, honest.}

01 Sep 2017 00:37:44
we need a leader for the defence at set pieces. aling with pace for covering counter attacks.

Not too many of the out there though.

{Ed007's Note - Why not go for someone like Van Dijk?}

01 Sep 2017 00:57:33
What are you on about?

01 Sep 2017 01:03:56
Not sure about the keeper statement but we absolutely have a team that can challenge. I've been saying for ages most of our defensive problems are due to poor full backs with nothing going forward and poor ball retention. Hopefully we've sorted that this season and we won't leave the CBs so exposed. Here's to a good season lads!

01 Sep 2017 01:33:24
Southampton have us in the dunces corner ed007

Honestly not our fault 😜

Well it was Klopp but in fairness the other signings were decent including OX in my opinion, everyone complained about Wijnaldum when he signed now he’s regarded as a key player so give the kid a chance before getting the noose out for him.

31 Aug 2017 23:20:20
Does anyone follow the youth teams? Any good looking CBs in our developmentm mean football talent too before anyone gets smart!

We will surely need them could easily picture Gomez and Matio injured at same time.

Btw it's still not the absolute end of the world that we didn 't get Van Dijk this window I do thunk he will join eventually. Just my opinion of course there.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2017 00:33:39
Maybe ask 23carragher he might know he usually does the reports on the guys on loan, probably your best bet.

01 Sep 2017 00:40:56
No one in the U23s or U18s team are ready to play for the first team as a CB yet.

On a brighter side, with Flanagan, Markovic, Bogdan, Brannagan all still LFC players, the U23s will be pretty strong this time around.

01 Sep 2017 00:41:55
I should say I jest. Ludicrous that the club kept Bogdan, Markovic, Brannagan (injured currently) and Flanagan and also kept Ward as the 3rd choice keeper.

01 Sep 2017 07:02:14
What about that young lad, must be 16/ 17 and is 6 foot 10?
