Thought for the fans on here, if LFC follow the sign VVD at any price route that many seem to want, how long do you reckon it will take for the price to become a weapon to use against him when he makes a mistake? What reason is there that he won't get the same grief as Karius did considering expectations will be higher, despite knowledgeable warnings from the likes of Ed001 and the price tag will be astronomical.

As soon as we don't keep a clean sheet.

Not too long I'm sure.

The pressure will be on him even before he steps onto the turf as a red.
Pogba for one was extensively scrutinized for not justifying his fee last year.
It is upto VVD to gear up for this pressure and deliver calmy (Lovren who took the same route is still not the defender he was at Southampton)

The transfer saga he is involved in doesn't help his case. like us pouncing onto every opportunity to mock Sterling after his departure, Saints aren't going to let him go easy. then, its only our support as home fans that's going to get him where we want him to reach.

I actually think if he moves the best thing that could happen is an early game against them, will give a reason for the fans to get behind him, theirs will be on his case and maybe a decent performance will get him the breathing space.

Amazing how many people can predict what Barcelona will do next summer, can any of you psychics tell me the lottery numbers?

Technically Maradona wasn't a good footballer, he was a great footballer.

Got to agree, the teams that succeed in this league understand you have to nail the weak teams and that every point really matters, it isn't Spain where you can pretty much predict the top 3 every season, any of 6 clubs could be in the top 3. So not turning up against the lower teams isn't good enough to be a consistent ECL team. People keep banging on about we beat Arsenal or Chelsea or the other big teams. Yes but we then go and lose/ draw the next half dozen against the weaker sides, while the team we beat will pick up 15-18 points against those sides. That is why we struggle for EPL. Personally I'd give up those big wins for consistent wins against the other teams, even just lots of 1-0s.

It is a good point about world class being a long term not short term thing. Without the injuries I think Sturridge would have been one of the best forwards in the world. World class is questionable. The 25 player squad idea doesn't work for me because it is possible for the 25 world class players to all play in just 2 or 3 positions. Personally I think world class should be judged against the past players and your true ability against them and your peers plus how they consistently impact the game. Ronaldo and Messi are world class, Rooney never was (and I've never understood why anyone thought he was) and I don't think Sturridge would have been.

Why do people think being paid large sums of money removes all of the following:

Getting injured
Being tired
Suffering from illness including things like depression
Having family issues
Being a human with feelings and emotions

Plus it doesn't have to be a case of them being directly upset; if your other half, parents, children constantly see and hear people making derogatory and offensive comments about you, then no amount of money will change how much their upset will upset you.

Just because they get paid money we will never see to do a job we'd all love to have doesn't make them robots without feelings.

OIrish you have missed the point that the reason they are fit young athletes is because they are now properly managed. You've also misunderstood what recovery time actually means. It doesn't mean sitting on their butt doing a great deal of £&@" all. Active recovering is what they now do. You also have to take into account the structure of the match day (s) . For example if the squad has a 10 hour journey, a late evening kick off with a night time finish and a long return journey, then realistically those players are not expected to be doing any training the next day as it will already be taking place by the time the travelling is done. Then the following day they will be given recovery activities to take part in that help keep their physical state where it needs to be and any niggles will be looked at. That is 2 days without football drills not 2 days of doing nothing. This is standard across most clubs not an LFC thing. Also the day before a match they lighten up training. Meaning the number of sessions per week to work on specific items are limited and not every session per day is available to work on just one thing.
