Ed's, can you shed any light on the Jonas Hector saga? One minute we appeared to be interested, now the media is saying that interest has "cooled off". Having said that his odds to join us were slashed earlier in the week.

jhen2105

{Ed002's Note - I know nothing of odds at all but I have explained the two LB targets I am aware of.}

1.) 29 Jun 2016 18:00:52
Would that be Chilwell and Bertrand, Sir Ed?

{Ed002's Note - No, RTP.}

2.) 29 Jun 2016 18:18:26
Chilwell and Amavi I beleive ed as I've rtfp 😆. Not sure whi I prefer out of thise 2 though.

3.) 29 Jun 2016 18:52:30
Amavi is a decent player.

4.) 29 Jun 2016 21:29:19
My thoughts on the two confirmed LB targets by Ed002 (Chilwell and Amavi) .

It should be Chilwell signed over Amavi, definetly!

Amavi has missed a full season of football through injury. If you want someone to come in and hit the ground running then you don't pick someone like that.

Look at Flanno, missed a lot of football and is now struggling to get back to the very high level he was at pre injury. It's not a dig at the lad - just the way it is with these sorts of injures.

5.) 29 Jun 2016 22:56:16
Chilwell over Amavi all day as Chilwell has been well scouted by Klopp and his friend David Wagner who had Him at Huddersfield Town all of last season while Amavi didn't play almost for a full season.

6.) 30 Jun 2016 06:29:42
Where did this myth about the great Flanno beeing so exellent before his injury comes from? He gives he's all and play woth his heart, but he has never been a good player.

{Ed001's Note - perhaps from people actually watching the games and seeing how excellent he was? He was a very good player, I really have no idea who you were watching, but it clearly was not Flanno. You must be trying to live up to the name you chose with this comment!}

7.) 30 Jun 2016 16:08:46
Amazing misconception there, are you sure your a Liverpool fan, if you can find a DVD of the 2014/ 15 you'll see flanno was unbelievable and worth the contract renewal with relative ease, I've stopped supporting players individually ever since gerrard left as they can leave just like that I only support Liverpool the football club but flanno is my one exception Liverpool through and through is that is that lad and you can take that too the bank he plays like a die hard fan imagines they would.

Apologies if this is a stupid question or has already been covered, but what exactly is the purpose of Ings' loan move with an obligation to buy next year? Why would they not just purchase him this year instead?

jhen2105

{Ed002's Note - There will be some provisions regarding injury.}

1.) 10 Aug 2018 06:22:42
So its an obligation to buy not an option to buy at end of loan?

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

2.) 10 Aug 2018 06:54:59
Im guessing he won't be able to play against Liverpool this season then?

3.) 10 Aug 2018 08:23:45
Really hope Ings has a good injury free season. Not as much as I hope Sturridge does mind.

4.) 10 Aug 2018 08:44:41
Still not sure I understand. Is someone able to break it down for me? Sorry if I’m missing the point! If the obligation is for Southampton to buy, presumably there’s no getting out of it on their part. What is the purpose of the loan?

5.) 10 Aug 2018 09:21:10
I am sure ED02 will correct me, but as I have read it, Saints have an obligation to buy but there will be certain conditions where that obligation falls away i. e. an injury to Ings which means he is out for a certain time period.

But I have guessed that from reading these comments so could all be wrong :)

Just read that Fekir is set to be left out of the the France side for their opening game against Australia on Saturday.

Hopefully strengthens our case to get him for less when we go back in for renegotiations with Lyon. If so, will be nice to see Aulas get his comeuppance since he was so sure that by deferring the deal until after the WC they'd end up making more off Fekir's performances!

jhen2105

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not in a position of strength, not in any discussions right now}

1.) 14 Jun 2018 19:45:11
If we want him we pay up and agree with Lyon or move on it’s that simple.

2.) 14 Jun 2018 19:52:45
So what you're saying Ed002, is that we are not hopeful in any of our negotiations at the moment? Have we let Fekir go, or am I reading to much into this.

Thanks for the brilliant work you guys put into this site. Im addicted.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the issue with Fekir.}

3.) 14 Jun 2018 20:18:11
Maybe he’s injured.

4.) 14 Jun 2018 20:19:47
Personally do you think the deal will be resurrected Ed?

{Ed002's Note - See numerous previous answers.}

5.) 14 Jun 2018 21:35:08
If we want fekir we have to pay if we want alisson we have to wait and see what happens with the interest of madrid because he wants to go there. We are not in position of strength as Ed said.

6.) 14 Jun 2018 22:47:37
He is a Lyon player under contract. They want a fee for him. If we think it's too high then we move on. it football.
For the right player we will pay over the top. (firmino for example, at the time it seemed we had paid to much)
But at the end of the day Lyon hold the cards not us, and history shows that they will only pay to suit them. imo I wish we negotiated half as well as they do.

Morning Eds and a happy New Year to you all.

Do you know if there is any truth in the rumours doing the rounds that Monaco are now willing to listen to offers of around £60mil for Lemar? Seems a massive jump considering he was being valued in excess of £90mil only last week!

I completely understand the club's stance on refusing to be held to ransom with the Coutinho funds but given Arsenal's interest in Malcolm, do you think that could pave the way for us to make a move for Lemar? At £60mil and cheaper than Van Dijk do you think the powers that be would be tempted to get him in this window or wait until summer? This is newspaper talk after all so I apologise if it's way off the mark.

Finally, do you think the increasing odds of getting Keita in early would dampen any interest we have in Lemar?

Thanks for everything! Big fan of the site.

jhen2105

{Ed001's Note - papers have no idea what they are talking about. They don't need the money but are going to suddenly accept less. Oh yes I can see how that makes sense to everyone concerned, except for Monaco.}

1.) 11 Jan 2018 09:19:25
Monaco to offer him for less than what others seem willing to pay? Seems an innovative approach to doing transfers.

2.) 11 Jan 2018 10:21:07
Actually Ed, Liverpool sold Coutinho for less than Barcelona were willing to pay. (I can't even type it with a straight face) :)

{Ed001's Note - is your face ever straight though mate?}

Morning all!

Interested to hear people's thoughts on the deadline day as a whole. Is anyone surprised that we didn't get VVD? Does Salah's price seem like a steal given the way prices as a whole rose over the course of the window? Finally, what do people make of Oxlade-Chamberlain?

Eds - according to Guillem Balague of Sky Sports, we were never interested in Thomas Lemar. Surely if that were the case it wouldn't have been so widely reported that we'd put two bids in for him? Apparently after the France game when asked about his future he replied, "We'll see what happens. For the moment I am a Monaco player and everything is going very well. " With that in mind, and given how he played last night, do you think we will retain interest and go again for him in January? Finally, do you think VVD is over and done with or could we see his name crop up again in the not-too-distant future?

Thanks.

jhen2105

{Ed001's Note - Balague says a lot of stuff, then ten minutes later says the opposite on a regular basis, just like Sly Sports do. I was keeping a tab on it yesterday and there were at least 3 occasions yesterday, before I got too busy to keep an eye on things any more, where Sly Sports reported something from 'Sky Sources' then ten minutes later were reporting it was nonsense 'despite what the papers are saying'. In actuality the papers were reporting that Sly had said it anyway! The whole thing is a con and just better off ignoring the bull and switching the TV off.

I still expect us to look to replace Couts in January or next summer, whether Lemar will still be the choice I am not so sure about as the asking price is so high.

Impossible to say with VVD, the ball is all in Southampton's court. They look to be sticking to their guns and refusing to sell to us, so I would think it more likely we will move on and look elsewhere.}

1.) 01 Sep 2017 09:44:49
Replacing Coutinho is going to cost a lot money regardless. FSG and KLopp cannot penny pinch when trying to replace an important member of the squad. If not Lemar, then someone like Pulisic would be a great addition. But again the price will be closer to what Monaco wanted for Lemar. If Lemar's the guy Klopp wants, then we should pay up in Jan or next summer coz Coutinho will be gone next summer for sure.

{Ed001's Note - Pulisic is not interested in a move right now anyway, so the price is irrelevant. If he does decide he would like to leave, there are no shortage of clubs that would jump in.}

2.) 01 Sep 2017 09:52:09
Overall I think it's been a good window as long as there isn't a nasty surprise layer today. Not signing VVD has been disappointing but other than I don't have any complaints. We're stronger than we were last year. Even though I knew Sakho wasn't coming back I was still sad to see him go.

3.) 01 Sep 2017 10:06:39
Hi Ed. I know 92 million is a steep price, but I think it was worth paying if that fee was going to be completely funded by Coutinho's sale. What do you think?

{Ed001's Note - it doesn't really work like that, Barca would not have paid completely up front for starters. If he is seen as worth it by the club, then yes it is worth paying it, otherwise no, regardless of the sale or otherwise of Couts.}

4.) 01 Sep 2017 10:43:36
Thanks for your comments Ed. I always wanted Cou to stay at least one more season so we will have ample time to fully scout who we what to replace him. The money is irrelevant provided we think said replacement is worth it.

29 Jun 2016 20:52:43
Ed's - who else can we realistically expect to see brought in by the end of the window? I appreciate it'll be quite difficult to say for certain but is there anyone likely to get the fans excited? It's frustrating as a fan at the minute to see the all the big names being attracted to our rivals. As excited as I am for
Mane, I wouldn't exactly call him a household name.

jhen2105

{Ed002's Note - RTFP.}

1.) 29 Jun 2016 21:32:58
When was the last time we bought a player you were generally 'excited' about and was a big name? For me, the ones I end up liking the most are the ones I had barely heard of previously- players like Kuyt, Benayoun, Agger, etc.

2.) 29 Jun 2016 22:05:42
Torres mate, that was the last one for me, remember believing we would win the league when he signed.

3.) 29 Jun 2016 22:22:31
Andy Carroll for me!

4.) 29 Jun 2016 22:37:45
The least known usually end up the best.

5.) 30 Jun 2016 05:12:10
Hard to look past Konchesky. I was so excited i peed a little.

6.) 30 Jun 2016 05:47:15
Agreed Burkeyboy. If we had kept Konchesky for another season, league title number 19 would have been in the bag in 2011. KK should have been sacked just for trying to replace Konchesky. At least that is what his mother thought.

7.) 30 Jun 2016 06:11:57
Christian Poulsen for me, I was prescribed a months worth of sleeping tablets just to get me off to sleep at night. I couldn't believe we actually managed to pull this signing off
😬.

8.) 30 Jun 2016 06:31:43
Stewart Downing, thinking the supply he can give for andy carroll.

9.) 30 Jun 2016 08:29:29
Ronaldo
Terry
Fred
Puyol?
Bit of a curve ball there Ed and how do you think they'll work under a high energy system like klopps?

It dropped in a similar manner around the time of the Lacazette transfer saga and that still went ahead even after Aulas publicly denied it. Maybe I'm just getting my hopes up as I'm desperate to see Fekir in a Liverpool shirt!

I know I'm not the only one hoping we go back in for him after the WC. My only concern though is that Aulas initially wanted to push negotiations back until the WC was done on the off chance Fekir had a good tournament in which case they could demand more for him. If that does happen I wonder whether LFC will pay an increased price considering the whole debacle at the moment. Would they be seen to pay more for a player they initially called a halt to due to his injury history or would they want to save face and cut their nose off to spite their face?
