Hi Eds. Great win yesterday. (I searched for Maia. ) Press is linking us with a Brazilian named Thiago Maia. Anything in it? Or would he be priced out of a move anyways?

{Ed002's Note - Santos' Thiago Maia is of interest to PSG, Monaco, Zenit and Napoli in addition to Chelsea, Fiorentina and Manchester United who all have sustained interest and spoke with his previous agent. He is one of three players at the Olympics that Chelsea were interested in and a bid is still expected after seemingly successful discussions were held with his new representative - but Chelsea will not look to pay the outrageous asking price. PSG has spoken to Santos and after being rebuffed may return with an offer and Napoli have made it clear that they too are interested in making an offer, but the interest of Juventus, Monaco and Arsenal has waned - as the interest of Manchester United may have done. It is unlikely that any move will happen before the summer or potentially January 2018 unless an over the odds offer is made. Liverpool had a scout present at a Santos game in November (as did Zenit, Benfica and Kashima Antlers according to Santos) and that may be the cause of the report regarding Liverpool interest - but I really don't know why they had someone at the game. If they are looking to Maia it would be a significant spend on a teenager who plays as a defensive midfield player so it may take a change in shape of the side to fit him in - given Lucas can't get a game.}

1.) 20 Dec 2016 22:12:11
Could a creative DM signing move Henderson alongside Lallana?

{Ed002's Note - Sure, Klopp could change the way the team is organised in order to accommodate a teenager.}

2.) 21 Dec 2016 09:10:57
Curious Eds, do you rate him? Who does he remind you of as a player? Were there any other players worth scouting at that game?

Thanks and Happy Holidays Eds!

{Ed002's Note - I don't "rate" players but he is a player that plenty of clubs have shown an interest in. Scouts go to games all of the time - that is there job.}

26 Aug 2016 17:20:32
Ed002 I see that the appreciation society has gone a bit dull lately. You not been feeling the love here recently?

{Ed002's Note - I didn't know that and of course I don't know who runs it, but I appoint you my head of boosting. Sign up for the Ed002 Appreciation Society at: }

1.) 26 Aug 2016 18:04:42
Lol I dub thee head of boosting. I just google to see who you've wrecked recently and I haven't seen one in a while. Unfortunately I am not too fond of facebook. But know you're still #1 in my book Ed. Or #2.uhhhhh.

2.) 27 Aug 2016 02:56:52
Been using this site for a few years, tho never posted/ registered before.

just wanted to thanks to all of the eds, and several posters who i always enjoy reading.

been here since dodgy sightings at lennon airport and no daft questions to the eds.

and ed2 who always makes me smile. thx for all the info you provide.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome, and thanks for the kind words. As far as I know, nobody knows if he will be on the 1230 or 1300 arrival at John Lennon International today but there are bound to be a lot of fans at the airport hoping for a glimpse of him.}

14 Aug 2016 23:02:58
Hey Eds, we haven't heard anything about sakho. Haven't seen him in any training photos lately either. Is he on the way out? Honestly had kinda forgotten about him.

{Ed002's Note - He will be sold if a buyer can be found.}

1.) 14 Aug 2016 23:28:37
Dang that's crazy. Difficult situation this.

Thanks Ed.

2.) 14 Aug 2016 23:17:35
He will be back training with the first team this week!

3.) 15 Aug 2016 02:09:57
Is this because of the drug test Ed? He was great last year prior to that debacle.

{Ed001's Note - no.}

4.) 15 Aug 2016 07:32:21
Its to do with him being sent home from the pre season tour in Erica I guess.
Showing complete disrespect by being late for the flight, then a training session and then a club meal.
Klopp showing everyone who is boss by bringing the hammer down hard.

5.) 15 Aug 2016 08:15:33
A preseason tour in Erica? Must have missed that 😳.

6.) 15 Aug 2016 00:31:03
Although I respect your opinion/ info Ed, I highly doubt both Klopp and LFC would be so niave to sell one of their best centre backs due to a behavoural issue. Don't get me wrong he has a lot to do, to get back in to the first 11 but selling him would be complete madness, leaving us then with Klavan, Matip, Lovren and a very inexperienced Gomez who is still recovering from an Acl and Achilles injury. When on form he is vital to our defence, we missed him hugely in the Europa league final too.

7.) 15 Aug 2016 01:17:44
Cheers ed, absolutely ruthless from Klopp but these are the likes of ball I wish Rodgers would have shown.

8.) 15 Aug 2016 05:58:52
from using the search function, do you know if roma are still interested ed002?

{Ed002's Note - No, they have taken Fazio on loan. Housseyni has been spoken to by the club and Besiktas are known to be looking for a centre back but at best will want a loan with an option to buy. Housseyni however is insistant that Sakho stays and if that is the case he will no doubt be spending his time looking for the deal that suits them and not Liverpool. Housseyni has been told that the club expect to recover their investment in him.}

9.) 15 Aug 2016 08:35:00
So that would make Lovren, Klavan, Matip and Gomez our 4 centre backs.

10.) 15 Aug 2016 09:03:30
Hi Ed, is this a case of Klopp setting a clear example to the rest of the squad in terms of behavioral expectations or would it be fair to say there's a little more going on?

Obviously getting sent home from a pre-season tour is a serious matter but you'd be forgiven for thinking it didn't warrant selling the player.

Perhaps it was simply the final straw given the banned substance debacle etc?

{Ed001's Note - isn't enough that he is going? Klopp has made the decision and that is the important thing.}

11.) 15 Aug 2016 09:33:24
thanks ed002 for the update.

12.) 15 Aug 2016 10:15:08
Hi Eds, the signing of Klavan seemed to be a bit of a surprise at the time but if you're correct about Sakho hindsight makes it look like he was brought in as his replacement. Is there a shred of truth in that or am I making a connection where none exists?

{Ed002's Note - The decision regarding Sakho was taken after Klavan signed but you would think that there was some thought process involved.}

13.) 15 Aug 2016 10:21:15
I really liked sakho, he seemed to be warm to the fans, have a bit of a personality which is good for morale and was easily our best cb (not the hardest achievement)

Shame his attitude appears to have dropped, has he always been like this or is it more recent?

Thought the club were sticking by him after the drugs incident so is it that it was ultimately disrespectful of him to be how he has after that or more long term issues?

14.) 15 Aug 2016 10:27:46
Thanks Ed2.

15.) 15 Aug 2016 10:21:15
I really liked sakho, he seemed to be warm to the fans, have a bit of a personality which is good for morale and was easily our best cb (not the hardest achievement)

16.) 15 Aug 2016 12:57:22
Hi ed, would Sakho of been informed of this decision or not?

{Ed002's Note - He will know that the club are open to taking offers for him and he will have spoken with Housseyni.}

17.) 15 Aug 2016 13:56:46
I was excited when we signed him to be honest, but having watched him live a few times I'm glad we're selling. Everything else aside I just don't rate the lad and I've stated that before. I never got the Enrique thing and people on here raved about him? Like the look of klaven think we missed a trick with Ashley Williams and should spend big on a spurs LB. although I'm thinking klopp rates milner there.

18.) 15 Aug 2016 15:46:22
I find this upsetting - to me, he is the most able CB in the squad and losing him will be a significant blow to us and our ability to play out from the back.

19.) 15 Aug 2016 17:16:31
I'm glad don't rate Sakho always a liability for a mistake.

23 Mar 2016 01:29:47
Hi ed002. I read something about our scouts being impressed by American Bobby wood. While I find it difficult to believe, could you please tell me who he has attracted the interest of?

{Ed002's Note - Union Berlin's Hawaiian Bobby Wood is wanted in the summer by Hamburg with Kaiserslautern, Bayer Leverkusen and St. Pauli all being impressed enough to send scouts on more than one occasion to watch him this season.}

1.) 23 Mar 2016 13:31:23
Thank you Ed.

2.) 25 Mar 2016 06:54:42
No disrespect meant at all, but he's from Hawaii, not Hawaiian. Hawaiian is a race, not a nationality, and represents the identity of a race and culture that remains a minority even in it's own land. Again, no disrespect, just helping to spread knowledge as a Native Hawaiian myself.

On a side note. probably a fabricated story about an American based in Germany, not fancied by his German national team manager, and then linked to a club in an English-speaking country with a German manager. Would love it to be true, but I don't believe in miracles. just Leicester winning the league apparently. Apologies for the tangent. Up the reds.

{Ed002's Note - Thank you for the correction.}

21 Feb 2016 16:38:28
Hey Eds, just wondering if you had an update on Rossiter's contract situation. Isn't it out in the summer?

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing at the moment.}

1.) 21 Feb 2016 16:58:48
Thanks Ed.

2.) 22 Feb 2016 10:57:40
Would guess Grunjic covers that, with Lucas, Can and Chirivella also defensive midfielders. Hendo and if he stays Milner can play there, Matip also apparently although I'm sure he is pure CB and just an option if almost all are injured.

Just goes to show, with our striker situation. Bloated squad and although I like Rossiter, for his sake if he can get regular football elsewhere, grab that.

3.) 22 Feb 2016 19:24:45
Very true I like rossiter to but I agree he won't get a sniff most likely so he should jump at a chance but said this thing for ages do a barce if they ever get good enough we can buy them back cheap :p.

4.) 24 Feb 2016 19:21:58
I'd suspect there will be a massive clear out in the summer. I don't think Klopp will go crazy with our funds either; so far, we've picked up two good additions for relatively small amounts of money, though neither are proven in the BPL. Allowing a few of our reserves to move on is ideal before adding more wages to the books, though we will need additional quality if we are to make any headway next year.

We sort of knew how this season was going to turn out once Rodgers was fired and Klopp brought in -- a deep run in Europa, fizzling out in the league, hopefully a trophy in one of the cups. Knowing that Leicester is likely to take United's Champions League position does take a lot of the sting out of it.

But we expect much more in Klopp's second season. Can he get the best out of Sturridge when he's fit? Can he fix a defense that struggled even when we were scoring loads of goals? Is there a goalkeeper available that's an improvement on Mignolet? Can we afford to spend on another attacking talent without losing Coutinho or Firmino in the process?

I want to urge some caution for Robertson. He was excellent today, but we knew he was a decent attacking full back. I'm not sure any left back would look too bad after the way palace played. No attacking presence from them until we went up.

Regardless, hope his good performances continue. If nothing else, he can at least put a good cross into the box.

1.) 20 Aug 2017 00:31:27
He's a very consistent player hence the interest in him over the summer, name a player available right now and better than him who would jump at a chance to move to LFC, might take a while.

2.) 20 Aug 2017 02:37:47
Give the lad a chance, mate. His home debut was extremely good (I've not seen crosses put in like that from a FB for a while) .
It's not his fault that we've completely f? @::ed up this transfer-window. By now we should have sorted out our entire defence (it's a talking-point every week on Football Focus, MOTD etc. just how crap our defending is and this is not a recent phenomenon)!
Robertson is a steal at £10m but was he the best or entire solution?
Is the Coutinho saga or the Virgil Van Dyke debacle or the Naby Keita pantomime doing us any favours?

3.) 20 Aug 2017 04:03:06
Based on the comments when we signed him there's a whole bunch of Liverpool 'fans' gutted that they he hasn't given them a stick to beat him with after one game. I'm sure they awaiting eagerly for the next game to put him down.

4.) 20 Aug 2017 05:06:21
Definitely swish, the' retreated back to their caves now but they'll be back out patting each other's backs and whinging about FSG the first time he misplaces a pass or forgets to leave a tip in the local greasy spoon.

5.) 20 Aug 2017 05:44:59
Yep totally ridiculous. The top comment on the club's facebook post following the palace game is a "fan" saying Klopp out, disgraceful performance etc.

07 Aug 2017 02:58:20
I'm actually quite pleased with the Coutinho news. If you'll look who is reporting it, it is quite comforting. Anything that garbage rag reports has to be wrong concerning Liverpool. Not to mention, ed002 said we very foolishly quoted Barcelona 100 million at least, but the reports are well below that. No need to panic.

03 May 2017 16:59:43
Just read about the centenary stand being renamed the Kenny Dalglish stand. Absolutely a good decision in my opinion. That man deserves it.

03 Apr 2017 21:00:55
Ed002. I saw a news article about the potential for a 39th premier league match in the US. Is this something that is being looked at? If so, What do you think about it?

{Ed002's Note - You might want to check the date of the paper - it sounds 5 or 6 years old TJ.}

1.) 03 Apr 2017 21:14:15
Not 4 days old then Ed?

{Ed002's Note - This will date back years and years ago. Even if were not far, far away from England and I don't read the papers, I would suggest you search using 2012 or 2011 as a search term.}

2.) 03 Apr 2017 21:20:59
👍🏻 thought re-hash for an April Fool's special.

3.) 03 Apr 2017 23:09:58
It was an article on espnfc from some big wig in the International cup of champions.

25 Mar 2017 12:57:19
Hey Ed002, question for ya.

Can players be guilty of tapping other players up? It seems like a major problem in today's game, and you've mentioned our club being responsible for it on a few occasions. I'm just wondering why players aren't more closely restricted when it comes to this. for instance, Neymar on coutinho. Every time there is a national break it gets brought up. (I seem to remember Gerard being accused a few times) .

I guess I'm more curious as to what's considered tapping up, and who can get in trouble for it?

{Ed002's Note - It is a questionable area. They cannot be charged neither can the club but I am aware of players being told not to talk about players from other sides. As I explained last year, Neymar spoke openly aboput Coutinho but Coutinho had spoken to four international players about opportunities at PSG and Barcelona. The situation with Gerrard was far more serious as he admitted calling other players who he didn't know on behalf of Liverpool at the request of the then manager - and that could have resulted in charges to the club and, in that case, the DF of a player.

In terms of getting in to trouble the charges would typically be made against the club and potentially the individuals involved. Again, as I have explained, Liverpool got away with two warnings last year - if they continue with their attempts to tap up players they will be in serious trouble. There will be no more options for two directors of the club to lay a grovellinf trail of slime whilst apologising as they did once before.}

Ed I'm slightly offended. I'll have you know I don't have a single tattoo. And my head isn't shaven. it's just all falling out.

In all seriousness, appreciate what you all do. Including that serial drinker ed025 (he's not an alcoholic, he doesn't go to meetings :) ) . Even if your taste in music is not the best, and that video game you recommended me I'd never heard of seemed silly. What was that game again. it's an old game with an alliterative name.

{Ed002's Note - I am not a video game player - perhaps one of the others mentioned one.}

Seems like we are being linked with some really good players. I hope we spend wisely though. Mendy would be a good signing, and Sessegnon is apparently the real deal, so both would be a major improvement.

How can he get away with not training? Shouldn't he be fined wages? Or is this whole "my back hurts" excuse sufficient to keep being paid? May try that one on my employer, and see how far it gets me.

This whole thing stinks of the Suarez saga. And if I learned anything from that, its get rid of the disrespectful player; not fit to wear the shirt.

That being said, Barcelona need to meet a fair price or he can stay in the reserves.

What do you think about that approach ed002? Is it a good idea for the owners to be involved so little? I felt like they would gradually work their way into more involvement as they learned more about the game. It is an interesting approach, one that has had its ups and downs.

{Ed002's Note - It is typical of many football clubs - would you want accountants deciding which players Liverpool should buy. The did not buy Liverpool in order to find out more about football.}

It's clearly not just the back 5 at fault. When the majority of your goals are the result of a set piece, the responsibility falls on more than just your back line.
