Hey ed1 I read that you wee waiting for a definite answer on Griezemann
Any news?

Welsh red376

{Ed001's Note - I don't remember saying that regarding Griezmann. I am told we are not going to match the asking price or wage demands for him.}

1.) Decent talent if the price and demands are closed to Lallana i'd have no problem

2.) I'm sure the club will be so pleased to have your approval dezyboy :)

Hey eds have Liverpool activated Cans release clause and is Moreno nearing towards Anfield. Lastly is Borini on the way out.

Welsh red376

{Ed002's Note - Putting aside release clauses, I understand that Liverpool has made an offer for Emre Can. The situation with Moreno is unchanged and Liverpool has not made an acceptable bid. Borini is keen to stay at Liverpool.}

1.) Liverpool met the original asking price and were granted permission to speak to moreno. personal terms have been agreed.seville are now trying to get more money out if Liverpool.a medical is still planned.

{Ed002's Note - Rubbish. Liverpool has not made an acceptable offer.}

2.) Seville have moved the goal posts over the amount and structure.this is not unusual with them.

3.) Its now being reported that Liverpool FC have completed the signature of Emre Can and will be present the deal as complete tomorrow (according to Bild)

4.) Ed, would you say Liverpools offer for can is 'acceptable' as you said earlier forget about the clause?

{Ed002's Note - I believe it is.}

Hey eds are we interested in shaqirii. Would be great if we did. Also are we looking for strikers to back up SAS. We can expect them to play every game in a 40 game plus season!

Welsh red376

{Ed002's Note - Shaqiri is one of the players Bayern are looking to sell and they are seriously pissed with him right now. Sevilla and Fiorentina have a declared interest with Liverpool, Napoli and Juventus having made tentative enquiries. Bayern are taking an interest in Pogba and are looking to include Shaqiri in a deal - but Shaqiri apparently does not want to go there and Pogba is settled, at least for a week or two.

Borini has returned so perhaps that will be enough. There is a growing feeling that there is interest in Kalou but I have nothing confirmed right now.}

1.) Sorry Ed can't see Liverpool being at all interested in Kalou. He is a squad player at best and Liverpool are looking for more quality and possible starters.

2.) Sorry eds meant to say we can't expect them to play every game in a 40 game plus season!

04 Jan 2014 11:59:55
Hi eds you mentioned that it would be unlikely for rakitic to come in unless a midfielder was leaving implying that we have too many midfielders. But for a team that plays 3 midfielders, 4 hardly covers depth so wouldn't rakitic or the like be considered as a reinforcement than a replacement?

Welsh red376

{Ed002's Note - The long term interest in Rakitic is from Lazio where he was expected to move in the summer. Personally I do not see him moving in January but PSG, Chelsea, Manchester United, Lazio and perhaps Liverpool would be interested if he were available at a sensible price.}

1.) Eds appreciate the response but I didn't mean rakitic specifically, I meant any midfielder who comes in Jan to add to our 4 midfielders.

Hi Ed1 a future blog/ article from you, the pros and cons of having a collegiate system (similar to NFL) in the premier league?

Welsh red376

{Ed001's Note - nice idea that one, I have added it to my to do list. Good timing as I have been talking to a few people involved in the NBA and NFL recently.}

1.) 28 Jun 2017 08:07:15
What page will they usually go on that type of article? I don't always find them very easily is all.

{Ed001's Note - they go on the site.}

2.) 28 Jun 2017 13:07:18
ED1 your kingdom stretches out to the NBA and the NFL as well haha, lemme know when it drops, how long is your to do list now mate?

{Ed001's Note - I like to keep up with as many sports as possible, a lot of the stuff is related, such as fitness. For instance, San Antonio Spurs employ an ex-Liverpool staff member. There is a fair amount of stuff in each sport that is relevant to footie. My to do list is down to about 150 articles now!}

Why is everyone moaning about 'missing' dahoud
Is it so improbable to see a young German boy move from one German city to another German city? How many of you guys at your teenage years would leave everything behind in search of a job? that's why I have so much respect for players like Manquillo, Markovic Chirivella because they're very young boys and have left home, friends and family to come play here.

Welsh red376

{Ed001's Note - Manquillo?}

1.) 04 Apr 2017 15:54:19
I think he means in general ed001 players leaving there home country so young and adapting without anyone, but then I always assumed when a young player from say Spain at the age of 16 moved to Liverpool surely clubs foresee this problem and bring there family over with them? or do they leave that to the family to decide what they want to do?

{Ed001's Note - well Manquillo only came here on loan initially, so he should not be in this discussion. Different clubs have different ways of dealing with it, but it has moved forward a lot from the days when a Spanish lad at Everton was taken to the snooker club and told it was law that he had to smoke while playing snooker. These days there are employees, player liaison officers/agents etc, to help them settle in and sort out problems. Sometimes clubs will bring their families over and provide them accommodation etc. It really depends on the case. Some clubs do not have the money to do so, or the inclination when the player is not seen as vitally important.}

2.) 04 Apr 2017 16:25:14
Thanks for the Insight Ed001,

there was a young lad that played with myself years ago all be it he was a couple years younger than myself David Moli and he was signed up by Liverpool he didn't make it at the time but currently plays in the lower leagues, his did used to work for Vauxhall in Luton and Liverpool arranged that his dad kept his job but moved factory's to the one just outside is that a regular thing Ed? clubs talking to other company's to accommodate players if they shine a little bit more than others?

I might getting the player wrong but I remember there was a lot of discussion years ago about it in my high school :)

{Ed001's Note - yes, it used to be very common, nowadays the family tend to not need to worry about jobs once a player has a professional contract.}

3.) 04 Apr 2017 16:34:40
Manquillo is at Sunderland after a loan at OM. Just saying.

{Ed001's Note - he is not really a young boy though.}

4.) 04 Apr 2017 17:05:34
Much like an internship abroad then ED lol but it's still must be daunting being 19 and far afield from home, I can only guess, he may have loved being away from Spain but in general there must be a culture clash for foreign youngsters coming to play.

{Ed001's Note - they are usually very unhappy, at least initially, unless they are well looked after. We are lucky at Liverpool having players like Lucas and Sturridge, those two, in particular, do a lot to make newcomers and youngsters feel a part of the squad.}

5.) 04 Apr 2017 17:30:48
Sturridge? Wow that's a surprise given his attitude on the pitch, not that it's a bad thing but he really wants it for himself, but we all know Lucas is really cool guy.

{Ed002's Note - Ed001 is right that the senior players are generally very good at welcoming others. One of the reasons that there needs to be a structure to the loan system when kids are sent abroad - something Liverpool do need to think about. One English club T]found there was a problem with a couple of loan players in the Netherlands and that resulted in the club having them get involved with spending some time with the local community (schools and charities) to keep them active when not playing or training. They have also helped clubs they have and are building relationships with - this has included providing training facilities, loaning coaching staff, having ex-players works with them in some capacity etc.. With players coming to England it is important they have the help to settle - some South Americans find it very difficult. There are major cultural changes between mainland Europe and England - habits, food, drink, language, attitude etc.).}

6.) 04 Apr 2017 19:39:00
Oh no, he is not, Ed01. That part is clear.

03 Apr 2017 09:12:45
Hi Ed1 this one is an awkward question I feel so forgive me but of Germany's great midfielders past and present (including but not limited to Ballack, Schweinsteiger, Kroos Hitzlberger just for his shot) which one do you think our Emre Can resembles the most? Cheers mate and have a good day.

Welsh red376

{Ed001's Note - none, he is not really like any of them, in my opinion.}

1.) 03 Apr 2017 10:46:19
Highly unlikely he will reach the heights of the midfielders you listed above. But still has the potential to be a good player for us. Not world class but a handy and versatile midfielder is what I would call Can.

2.) 03 Apr 2017 12:13:12
The boy isn't called Emre Zidane for nothing lol XD.

3.) 03 Apr 2017 14:07:14
Not saying he is anywhere near as good but he kind of reminds me of Viera in terms of his playing style. He likes to drive forward from deep, loves a physical battle and marries technical ability with tenacity. Hopefully he develops into even just half the player!

4.) 03 Apr 2017 15:49:07
I don't want him to be like any of those players, personally. I want him to be the best he can be for himself and for us based on the qualities he has. That's it. Comparing him to other players is pointless and futile.

5.) 03 Apr 2017 15:50:25
I agree with buzzer, certain players have caps and his doesn't reach world class like the players you listed above. Decent player but needs to improve vast areas of his game if we are to put him ahead of any of our starting midfielders. Hendo, Lallana and wiji is still our best trio. Can form has improved of late which is a refreshing sight though after what was a bad season for him before.

6.) 03 Apr 2017 16:24:11
He doesn't have the composure of Vieira.

Had a good game at the weekend though 👏.

7.) 03 Apr 2017 16:56:37
One swallow does not make a summer.

One game will not make him a world beater. He has got plenty of opportunities here and hope he improves his game. If not here somewhere else.

Plz don't compare him to Zidane.

8.) 03 Apr 2017 17:10:40
Can still only 23. End of last season before he got injured he was unstoppable. His recent form is once again showing that he can become a mainstay in the first team. What I like about Can is he is not a weakling on the pitch. Put him in La Liga and many players will try avoid being near him on the pitch. He has shown that he is a match for EPL football. He may still have inconsistencies but he can become a pretty damn good all round midfielder for us.

{Ed025's Note - bang average if you ask me max, limited passing range, gives the ball away too often ans rolls around like a big baby if he gets tackled, his improved form is down to his contract renewal and once he gets what he wants then i expect him to revert to the mediocre player he is..

9.) 03 Apr 2017 17:30:44
Rolls around like a baby when that filthy bugger Barkley was intent on breaking Can's leg along with destroying Lovren's ankle? Come on mate. Can is a pretty hard player. I have watched all the matches he has played and not the same player you are referring too.

You can keep Gareth Barry mate.

{Ed025's Note - im not defending barkley max he made some terrible challenges, but can rolled around like he had been shot then leapt to his feet like a ballerina 2 minutes later..horrible player..

10.) 03 Apr 2017 17:37:55
Yeah I know what you mean Ron. Viera had that ferocity but always looked in control. He had made the driving runs, but seemed to glide forward rather than scamper forward.

Viera was everything Can should be aspiring to be, as Can has all the tools to be that breed of midfielder. Agree though, composure is one of the main things that sets them apart. Luckily it is also something which can be gained through experience and age.

11.) 03 Apr 2017 19:26:59
Vieira was NOT the finished article at 23 either so don't know why he's being compared to Can. Can has his own talents and qualities (different to those of the players mentioned) and should be judged on them alone and not compared to players who are different to him who also cannot do the things that he can do. Give the kid time to develop, please.

Ed025, blaming the victim, I see. Can was brutalized by both Barkley and Williams so the idea of you slating him for rolling around like a cry baby sounds a bit bitter, IMO.

How about you save your criticism and ire for the thugs I mentioned above who were simply not interested in playing football cos they were getting hammered in every dept. of the game, including tactically as the comments of your hypocritical manager suggests.

{Ed025's Note - i am not defending barkley or williams Nred i have admitted that lots of times, can is the type of player who epitomizes everything that is wrong with modern day footballers..average but believes he is better, holding the club to ransom over pay negotiations..and a big tart..

12.) 03 Apr 2017 20:59:02
Put him infront of David Silva and he will be taught a good footballing lesson that you don't need physique to skip pass a player. Can has no discipline to play the deeper role and hence Klopp went to the veteran Lucas to baby sit him. Can is like a Micah Richards in the midfield, use your upper body to penetrate! You need a lot more than that to become a CM.

13.) 03 Apr 2017 22:40:26
Harry, you must have been under a rock when we played City two weeks ago with Can being in front of David Silva and Can was the one who taught Silva a lesson as he dominated midfield alongside Wij and Wijnaldum so sorry, you are wrong. Can bullied their midfield and they could not live with his pace, power and athleticism and by the way, he is quite skillful with the ball at his feet.

14.) 03 Apr 2017 22:49:41
Harry whilst it is true that Can is not disciplined enough (yet) to play an anchor role (and may never be), it is worth noting that some of the best players in his mould had similar issues.

Look at Viera who always needed Gilberto to cover his forward runs. Toure at City who needed Barry/ Fernadinho to do all his defensive work. Gerrard who needed Alonso and Masch to mop up his mistakes. All midfielders who loved to get at the opposition teams, and also loved a physical battle. Every single one of them needed a more disciplined anchor man alongside them. Emre Can is no different, but that doesn't mean he has no place in our side.

As Ed001 has said, he was wanted by B. Munich but chose us for more playing time. He is now refusing to sign a new deal without the promise of playing time - surely that is the kind of player you want though? A guy who wants to be out there every game. Klopp tried to sub him on Saturday due to a minor injury and Can effectively said "no" because he isn't here to shy away from a battle and earn easy money. He is actually becoming the exact kind of character our midfield misses at times. I have seen him grow massively these last few months.

Before Xmas I would not have batted an eyelid at him leaving. Whilst I am still skeptical about him playing the anchor role in our midfield, I have absolutely no qualms anymore with him playing in the side. Needing a more defensive/ disciplined player alongside has not gone against former great players, so why should it go against Can? Afraid to admit it, but I am actually growing to like his unpredictability!

15.) 04 Apr 2017 03:02:21
Emre Can reminds me of Van Bommel, from his shots, to his runs and aggression in the way he plays and also towards the opposition.

16.) 04 Apr 2017 11:39:41
Can has no positional discipline MK. I know it. You know it, The Editors know it and I am pretty fine with the other 60 million pretending against it.
You don't need a big gigantic hulk physique to dominate a midfield. Luka Modric is a living example!

Can use his upper body to dominate the field unlike his feet or brains to pick the player in those little pockets of the field or an empty space where there are no pressure on the player.

His almost all two footed challenges will one day give him a big ban from the game. He got away with plenty of rash challenges.

Put in him Spain and the referees will have no time in giving him marching orders!

17.) 04 Apr 2017 19:09:17
Can is the only player we have who has genuine aggression and is up for a scrap when the opposition get physical. Yes he makes mistakes, who doesn't, but by playing regularly the mistakes are getting less frequent and he is improving as he finds his form and consistency.

I said it before and I'll say it again, he is a talented lad who is only 23 and still learning his trade. If we don't tie him down to a new contract we will be kicking ourselves when he moves elsewhere, plays regularly and we see how wrong we were to let him go, there's a reason why Bayern and Juve are interested!

Numero uno edo, have you put up the match review for the game?

19 Feb 2017 13:26:44
Hey ed2 how's things, a while back you mentioned that someone in the footballing world regarded 5 players as te superstars of the future, I remember oko and I think Ake being on the list, I just wanted to ask has that list of young high potential stars changed or same? Cheerd.

Welsh red376

{Ed002's Note - In 2013 I was told by someone who knows far better than me that there were four truly exceptional young talents in world football at that time - Chelsea's Nathan Ake, Max Meyer of Schalke, Liverpool's Oluwaseyi Ojo and Martin Benitez of Independiente.}

1.) 19 Feb 2017 15:26:21
Ake is a brilliant player in my eyes and Bournemouth are missing him terribly!

2.) 19 Feb 2017 18:03:01
Ed, wasn't either Loftus-Cheek or Kenedy on the list as well? Both great prospects IMO.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

3.) 19 Feb 2017 18:33:51
I would take Ake tomorrow if he was available. The boy is just class.

4.) 19 Feb 2017 19:36:57
Ake is a superb player. Would take him in a heartbeat.

5.) 19 Feb 2017 20:14:31
Ake is class and that's what a good loan helps you.

6.) 19 Feb 2017 20:56:43
I would like to see Max Meyer working with Klopp. He's never quite hit his full potential imo. I think Klopp could bring him on a level.

7.) 20 Feb 2017 15:11:26
Nothing to do with the loan, he was on the list before the loan!

8.) 20 Feb 2017 20:27:29
The loan gave the kid solid PL experience and atm he is miles ahead of Ojo in terms of development. If the kid wasn't playing the list would have changed long ago.

Welsh red376

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't work like that. We have been through all of this before but responsibility rests with Ian Ayre, Dave Fallows, Brendan Rodgers, Barry Hunter and Michael Edwards. I predict 85'F and 87% humidity for the England game.}

Ed you know where you said physicality, do you think this may be the reason why England is so far behind in terms of player quality, because we tend to label it 'a mans game' and 'a mans game' is all about bruises, rough tackles and just being physical, and I think it's a case of we try to substitute technical skills for this so called big man approach, I really do hate it when a new player comes in and he has to 'bulk up', do any other leagues have this problem?

Welsh red376

{Ed001's Note - yes, the British game does suffer by being all about physicality over technical ability. It is a distinct disadvantage.}
