Hi Ed's

Dont we have any defenders in under 23 or 21 who can play for the main 11?

Atleast to fill the 11?

Cheers.

samikewell

{Ed002's Note - you have to pick players who can fit right in.}

1.) 23 Oct 2017 23:11:27
Lloyd Jones would be the only one with half a chance but would be a big gamble that.

2.) 24 Oct 2017 02:32:39
Is masterson the best cb in u23?

3.) 24 Oct 2017 23:02:59
Would love to see Masterson given a shot, unless that means fans jumping on his back after a mistake and ruining his confidenece!

31 Aug 2017 18:38:09
Any chance of Lucas Vasqez if Lemar is not done and we sell Coutinho?

Very good player to have but not be like for like replacement.

Good job Ed's.

Cheers.

samikewell

{Ed002's Note - Of course - I have explained that over and over but all we get is dribbling from the Liverpool fans so I don't bother anymore.}

1.) 31 Aug 2017 18:43:32
Who is Lucas Vazquez going to replace in the team? Mane or Salah?

2.) 31 Aug 2017 18:49:01
Highly unlikely Sami we are suddenly going to chasing a differant player in the last few hours mate. It was all about 2 players, neither happening.

3.) 31 Aug 2017 19:03:20
He will get more game time here than RM.

How abt spending Coutinho money for Kovacic and Lucas V from RM?

We would get more and competition.

No defenders because we only play attack.

4.) 31 Aug 2017 18:57:26
Ed02 start a Venmo account, so we can send you money for a few pints because it seems like you are going to need it. Plus when you drunk you repeat yourself anyway.

{Ed002's Note - I don't need the money thanks.}

5.) 31 Aug 2017 19:41:36
Lucas Vazquez really isn't that good. Not better than Mane or Salah and hardly a number 10.

6.) 31 Aug 2017 20:37:42
Whose better than mane right now? That would be very difficult.

7.) 31 Aug 2017 20:56:13
Is there a possibility we might come back for VVD in January if nothing materializes in this window Ed001?
Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

04 Aug 2017 14:37:26
Ed's

How is the Coutinho situation now?

Do you expect him to be with us this season?

Is there a possibility of Bale if we let Coutinho go?

Cheers.

samikewell

{Ed002's Note - (a) Barcelona would like to buy Coutinho but Klopp doesn't want him soild. (b) I suspect he may not be as he is keen to move and the club have kept putting a price on him. (c) I wouldn't think there is any chance at all.}

1.) 04 Aug 2017 15:45:17
Has our price increased from the €100m euros we quoted PSG earlier in the year, Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - Various prices have been boucing around but Barcelona will be putting a second offer on the table very soon.}

2.) 04 Aug 2017 17:50:23
We don't want to sell but I think anything over £100 million we may find hard to turn down. £100million and Rakitic?

Baz.

3.) 04 Aug 2017 18:12:55
I rate him very highly, certainly the heartbeat of this young side. I do have to admit though in terms of consistency he still falls behind players like Suarez who could take any game, any challenge, and come out fighting. I can't think of many games Suarez cruised through without some impact for us.

Maybe I'm saying I'd consider that swap :)

4.) 04 Aug 2017 18:36:31
100 mil and rakitic! That would be very hard to turn down. I cannot see them offering that. Although if we are going to be one of the club's directly affected by neymar's big money move then we should drive the hard bargain? . 80 mil plus rakitic. Why not? I would say yes to that. Reluctantly. If he wants to go we should not stop him. But we should have something definite lined up to fill the void if he leaves. My worry with ratikc is his age. He is very nearly 30 and thus on the downhill slide. I think he'd be great though.

{Ed001's Note - we would be mad to take on Rakitic and his huge salary now.}

5.) 04 Aug 2017 17:39:03
Who would you reckon we go for to replace him eds?

{Ed002's Note - Vazquez is a player that Liverpool would consider again as he is versatile - but Real Madrid has re-iterated he is not for sale. Max Max As I have said before, Max Meyer fits the bill of a young attacking midfield player who would fit the bill if Liverpool were to lose Coutinho and he could be a player they may look to - but right now they haven't and another side is chasing him down. Geoffrey Kondogbia is available but I would stay clear. Luan would be the wildcard if someone could resolve his ownership issues.}

6.) 04 Aug 2017 20:12:21
Ah, good point ed.

7.) 04 Aug 2017 23:53:50
I wouldn't mind Manuel Lanzini. Of course, never a "like-for-like" replacement for Coutinho as Couts is in a league of his own, but this late in the transfer window I can't see us being able to sort out a "bigger" signing, especially knowing how painfully slow we are to get transfers done. Coutinho leaving at this stage of preseason would be a huge blow for us as it leaves us little time for a big transfer and because he's looked instrumental in the midfield. Add to that Lallana is out injured and all of a sudden we have very little creativity in the midfield. Lanzini would be in a similar creative mold to Lallana's level I think and plays slight on that left side of midfield like Couts. good player in my eyes.

8.) 05 Aug 2017 01:15:24
Rakitic and LanzinI would be poor recruiting. Rakitic is past it. Too old and over the hill to be of any use. Lanzini simply isn't good enough. He lacks that extra quality that Coutinho has. If we brought these two in we may as well wave a white flag now.

9.) 05 Aug 2017 11:45:34
Have people actually seen these Rakitic and Lanzini types play exactly cos if they have, they would not be proposing them as Couts replacements.

Hi Ed's

Any substance in Jese Rodrigez from PSG rumours?

Think he would be a good addition.

cheers
YNWA.

samikewell

{Ed002's Note - Jese Rodriguez is available (because he has not settled, has been playing badly and has had a dreadful time since arriving in Paris) and has made it clear he wants to return to Spain. If Firmino, Coutinho or Mane were to leave it would make sense - else it makes absolutley zero sense. Right now PSG have shared two approaches for the player - neither of which is Liverpool.}

1.) 29 Dec 2016 09:25:40
Ed why does someone have to leave it's a squad game and we need different options to compete plus looks like we might have European games next season so will need bigger squad.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have a large squad and there are limitations. You cannot simply keep adding players - they will all want to play and Liverpool do not have the money to do that in any case.}

Hi Ed's,

what's the latest on ARDA TURAN?

I was waiting for someone to post on ARDA but looks like everything has gone quiet. Even his agent has gone quiet.

Do you see anyhitng happening with ARDA and Liverpool?

Thanks

samikewell

{Ed001's Note - no.}

1.) 24 Oct 2017 07:51:08
Aside from Gomez, no. None of them are ready for the first team.

{Ed001's Note - the only time you can really know that is when they play. Some players just play to the level they are at and so can step in seamlessly. Others fold under the pressure. However you never know for sure until they get the chance.}

2.) 24 Oct 2017 08:08:51
Whelan and Masterson are the highest rated in the academy. Both can play anywhere across the back line. Are they ready for senior football? Only by playing them will we find out.

20 Oct 2017 20:24:30
Hi Ed's

Never knew Bundealiga had women refrees.

Will we get to see the same in EPL?

Was watching Schalke vs Mainz. Though Groetzka got the goal, Max Meyer is the one we should look at.

Playing in front of 3 man defence, they were playing little trinagles and he seemed to be tactially aware and was linking the back to midfield.

Can't pass judgement on this game but he looked good.

Cheers.

samikewell

{Ed001's Note - we already do have one in English footie, though she only ever gets to run the line she is a referee and could end up in the middle if there is an injury to the ref during the game she is working. Though she is probably better known for being the object of Richard Keys and Andy Gray's enlightened view on women that set in motion the events leading to Sly sacking the gruesome twosome.}

1.) 20 Oct 2017 21:08:18
And very good at her job as well.

{Ed001's Note - excellent every time I have seen her working. I don't understand why she has not been given the chance to be in the middle.}

2.) 20 Oct 2017 21:54:44
And we have Alex as a regular feature on football focus (who is beautiful) glad to see football moving with the times.

3.) 20 Oct 2017 22:13:26
Gruesome twosome. Lol.

4.) 21 Oct 2017 02:34:45
The FA is corrupt, it is more concerned with keeping white men in the centre circle than fighting sexism and racism. I mean, who actually thinks the the FA is out to improve the game and not just make a profit?

5.) 21 Oct 2017 07:58:48
Those two idiots now work for Bein Sports and are, if possible, even more loathesome and illinformed than they were at sky. Incredible they are hired at all.

{Ed001's Note - agreed. Suits the Qatari mindset though....}

Hi Ed's

How do goalkeepers celebrate goals generally?

They are so far away from team mates and realistically can kick the goal post at the max or jump in the air or show with their fist.

Was thinking how lonely is that feeling when all team is with the goal scorer and they are happy but can't really express.

Cheers.

samikewell

{Ed001's Note - it really depends, usually they celebrate with the crowd. I have seen keepers race to join in with the hugs etc before.}

1.) 22 Sep 2017 05:38:49
There is nothing stopping keepers running the length of the field to join in.

2.) 22 Sep 2017 05:59:55
Reina still does it 😎.

3.) 22 Sep 2017 06:34:35
Interesting question.

I sit behind the goal, Migs will turn to the kop and jump up and punch his fists in the air.

Opposition keepers will do the same but not turn and face the crowd lol.

4.) 22 Sep 2017 08:57:16
It can be a bit lonely.
I used to hug the goal post if nobody was behind my goal.
Usually the other team would send an "expert" behind our goal to talk to you throughout the game to distract you or put doubts in your head, so I'd usually run over to him and dry hump him when we scored.
We didn't usually score that many lol :)

5.) 22 Sep 2017 09:31:40
Just tend to celebrate with a red face and their head in their hands.

10 Sep 2017 13:47:04
Hi Ed01,

Given how critical were your thoughts on Skrtl, How do you rate Matip now?

We have gone backwards. and Klavan, Matip and Lovern are step down to Skrtl says a lot.

Lovern, being poor atleat wants to fight as a defender but gets 90% wrong but Matip and Klavan seem to be pussies.

Don't want to blame Klavan as he is slow and will not work in this system but Matip thinks he is a xavi and tries over ambituous pass that never succeeds and his defeneding is also very bad.

Would like to know Ed1 from LFC angle and a neutral prespective from Ed25/ Ed2.

Cheers.

samikewell

{Ed001's Note - if you read through I have answered this question numerous times already mate. I have been saying for a while I am not convinced by Matip, but the more I watch him play the less I like what I see.}

1.) 10 Sep 2017 14:10:20
Fair mate.

somtimes we should be careful with what we wish for. Everyone here got pissed with Skrtl and were heaping praise on Matip and getting him on free, were so much of praise on Matip and Klopp.

He also bought Karius and he is making Mignolet look good.

Bought Klavan who is not suited to this system.

And he has bought Ox and god knows what he saw in him that will take us to next level.

Nothing against Klavan or Ox but when we buy should we be looking to improve on what we have and take to next level but they seem to be on par or lower than what we have.

Are the players bad or the fault is in the system? Going 1 man and trailing 2-0, still playing open hoping we outscore.

Is it that difficult to play closed game?

{Ed001's Note - in what way is Karius making Mignolet look good? He has done no such thing and every time he plays has made the team look a lot more confident defensively, unlike Migs. As for Skittles, he was over the hill anyway and had to be replaced, plus he was on big money and wanted more big money to stay. Klavan is just a back up, no idea why so many of you want to keep whining about his buy, you can't get Godin for a back up. You get what you can.}

2.) 10 Sep 2017 14:24:29
This argument is totally flawed because Skrtel is just not better than any of our current choices. We should have been penalised every defending corner when Skrtel was about.

3.) 10 Sep 2017 14:25:01
If Klopp thinks Sakho was a mere back up to Lovren who could be replaced by a slow moving Klavan, Then problem lies with Klopp. Klavan shoukd have never brought. And with Matip it's just like typical liverpool fans. Free signing means bargain lol!

4.) 10 Sep 2017 14:33:25
To improve the team you should always try and buy better than what you already have, then the player you have replaced becomes back up.

5.) 10 Sep 2017 14:47:42
I will still prefer skrtyl than Matip, Klavan and Lovern.

At least he is better at shirt pulling than others without doubt and is better overall in relation to what we have now.

Cheers.

6.) 10 Sep 2017 15:04:10
Our problem is not necessarily the personel.
Klopp has a system which leaves the defence wide open all the time. Ok our defenders are not great but they don't have much chance when there's a gaping hole in front of them for opponents to exploit. A lot of the time we are playing with the formation 2 defenders and 8 attackers.
Either Klopp tweaks his system or our defence will always look poor regardless of who's playing.

7.) 10 Sep 2017 15:21:40
Cbs should be scary. Ours aren't simply. Klavan has played well for liverpool but was well out of his depth yesterday. I cannot understand why we signed him. Liverpool won't win the league until we have some top top cbs. Mat hummers and vvd would be great. We need to offer some big money for some big cbs. It will pay dividends.

8.) 10 Sep 2017 15:34:47
Well said Ron. Let's not forget we were up against a very very good city side.

9.) 10 Sep 2017 16:46:10
Thing is ed, I get that Klavan is back up, but would you really play him in a game against City rather than Gomez or Lovren (given that both Lovren and Gomez were both on the bench)? You know he's liable to make at least one critical error which results in a goal every game. By picking him ahead of both of them says he's more than just back up.

{Ed001's Note - he was not picked ahead of both of them, it is rotation. Would I do so? No, but I do not have access to the data to know if Lovren was fit enough to start after the internationals.}

10.) 10 Sep 2017 17:49:36
I didn't think Maldini was scary but he's one of the best defenders I've ever seen.

11.) 10 Sep 2017 21:52:21
Skrtel was hapless and I'm glad he's no longer here. As for the poster who thinks Karius makes Migs lokk good, you need to stop using sun glasses to watch games. Karius is a better GK than Migs and that is clear. He is better with his feet (Arsenal game notwithstanding), more suited to play the high defensive line system due to his agility as a sweeper-keeper, more agile on his line and more authoritative with crosses unlike he was before.

Karius just needs to get a long run in the team for him to either show that or not. Migs has had his run and it has been hopeless, overall. Why we persist with him, is still beyond me. As for the selection, we don't have the fitness info that these coaches have so we have to trust their judgement instead of just mouthing off that "why did this or that player not play" w/ o knowing the in's and out's behind that decision.

12.) 11 Sep 2017 11:26:29
Our defence were shocking yesterday but we are not the only team that city are going to spank this season

OK, this is hard for me to say. city are bloody good aren't they!

If you talk to people inside the game most people will say lovren is our best defender. Perhaps they don't watch the boys week in week out as we do but I think that's the general concensus. Not one of the back five were any good yesterday. I was surprised to hear pundits on motd talking about how vvd and lovren would be great together. Matip looks good against lesser opposition because he can pick a pass and he looks composed. When the going gets tough it is lovren who is willing to fight. And let's not forget, lovren has to cover for moreno when he goes running.

Look, we were away, at the best side in the league (with world's best manager) we lost our best player and still tried to play football. The score line flatters city because I don't think they are that much better than us. Maybe better but not five goals better.

I think we've just been beaten by the best team in the league and one of top five teams in Europe.

Liverpool can build the best attacking team in the world but if we don't have a good enough base/ defence then it's pointless.

Despite what people say, I think klopp is a fantastic manager and a clever bloke. He will learn from this, I bet it doesn't happen again.

So much of this summers transfers are geared toward breaking the so called lesser teams down it looks like we forgot about playing the big teams. I still think liverpool could do with a true cf. We missed Adam lallana big time yesterday. We missed Clyne also, taa may end up a better player but Clyne has pl experience and for me is still the best RB at the club (except maybe Milner who I wish had started at RB yesterday) and of course we missed coutinio. In the big games ads and pipco really come to life.

Not the end of the world guys, I still believe our first eleven is as strong as anyone's when ALL players are fit. Our best players last year were pc ads and mane and we were without them all for most of the game.

Karius needs a decent run.

13.) 11 Sep 2017 11:28:32
Karius is so much better than mignolet. Even if it is just to settle the back four.

You do realise that when a defender has an option to make a pass back to the keeper and see flapper in the sticks they will hesistae and the rest of the tram will go into panic.

That's why players like has hesistae to make a simple pass back to the keeper. They have no confidence, not just in his passing ability but also wether they will be given it straight back in a more pressured position.

Coutinho should have been sold as he made very clear his intention to go and was not interested in the friendlies.

We were going to get good return and this was an easy decision to make but not sure who vetoed his move. Klopp or owners. No foresight/ hindsight needed as this was well written.

Can is showing to be a good professio al till now but unfortuately does not have the quality to take us to next level. His going will only help other potential players and we should wish him luck.

Deano,

Very valid points.

The new contract to Migs, Lovren was mind bogling.

Ultimately resolved myself thinking we will sell them at first instance and hoped they will not go on cheap.

But Kaurius though young is on the same level as Migs. Not much of a quality.

Hopefully this will force Klopp to give Ward a chance as he deserves it more than the other two.

Also no harm in playing Grujic and the boy from Arsenal that we signed.
he looked very good in friendlies.

Cheers.

Can is crap and is lucky to have got so many games.

Ok. he is a very average player if not crap.

Never thought I would say this as I liked him initially but it is what it is. But the fans here think he is next best to sliced bread and future captain.

We have a squad of mediocre players and he is there at the bottom.

From an attitude and behaviour stand point seems to be a very good person.

Will he take us to next level? sadly no.

All we can do is speculate and pass comments without knowing the truth.

Courts is a top class player and no doubting his talent. But his heart is not here anymore and the sooner he is gone the better for everyone.

Can has physical attributes but no real skill or intelligence and will not improve. Even if he does I don’t want LFC to be his testing ground. So wish him well and we should have already sent him. We should invest wisely on his replacement or anyone with more potential and who are in need of opportunities.

He has had plenty but has failed to progress and stagnated.

If he needd to improve and Klopp cites Moreno as example, let him not try bothering then.

Looks like it was not his buy and he is giving some random answer.

Not sure if he made the right decision to join us and he is not on the sub bench also when he was a regular in PL last season.

If only he had agreed to his father and continued his development he would have been better off.

I saw a recent game between Scalke and anothet team with a female refree. I did ask the ed about that.

Note sure if it was a one off game.
