A few questions on this news from this morning. What does this mean for Sadio Mané? As much as I understand the need for change, I also have so much loyalty to that man and what he's done for this club and don't think I'm ready 😂

Have you heard anything Ed on the contract situations of Mané, Firmino and Salah? Salahs situation is quite well publicised. The other 2. is it coming to the end now do you think?

barnesybob

{Ed002's Note - It depends how Liverpool plan to use Diaz but Porto play him in midfield more often than as a winger. If Liverpool plan to use him as a winger then it would be in place of Mane. I have no idea about the contracts.}

1.) 28 Jan 2022 11:26:58
Ed, when he plays as a MF for Porto, what is his role and who could he be lightly compared to as a MF player.

{Ed002's Note - It is a different system (typically 4-4-2) , if playing in a 4-3-3 it would be Jones or Sane replaced.}

2.) 28 Jan 2022 11:59:34
He’d struggle to get into our midfield with only 14 goals in 18 league appearances.

3.) 28 Jan 2022 12:12:04
Lol. Post of the day JK 😂😂😂😂.

4.) 28 Jan 2022 12:52:39
But JK can he run around a lot and provide limited creativity?

5.) 28 Jan 2022 16:30:23
@spaceman, Comparing LFC 5 with Man C?
Well, Salah is a class above all of Man C 5.
Man C 5 are all more useful than Bobby, even if only slightly.
Meaning, Salah is no.1 and Bobby is no. 10.
I would take any of the Man C 5 over Bobby (maybe not so much for Jesus) .

Nat Phillips has signed a new long term deal at the club. Incoming loan announcement?

barnesybob

1.) 31 Aug 2021 17:15:19
Apparently it’s Rhys going on loan and Phillips stays to compete as 5th choice.

2.) 31 Aug 2021 17:16:12
Was his contract up in the summer?

Big fan but I feel likes he's far away from the 1st team and he's 24. surely a loan incoming and then they're in a solid position to sell him after.

3.) 31 Aug 2021 17:22:28
I think he was contracted until 2023, from memory.

I always remember Mike Hooper - 137 years on the bench, 2 appearances, but loved his time here! Divock in the same boat. Maybe Phillips too?

Or, more likely, could be a loan for the season and look to sell next year when financial constraints may be a bit less of an issue for the majority of clubs in Europe.

4.) 31 Aug 2021 17:31:49
That came out of nowhere? I mean I'm happy that he stays but as well kinda don't get the new contract. I was all in for him staying for the next 6 to 12 months, but new contract?

5.) 31 Aug 2021 17:49:34
Love there time here? happy not to play? What are we, Butlins?

6.) 31 Aug 2021 17:51:36
Phillips is better than Rhys. It’s a good thing.

7.) 31 Aug 2021 17:56:46
Happy for Nat.

He is a good player and he seems to be a great guy.

8.) 31 Aug 2021 18:11:13
Yep it’s a good thing. Our defence is super strong.

9.) 31 Aug 2021 18:18:53
Jadon Havertz, you do realise that there’s no point having training games against our under 18s all the time. Having a large-ish squad with experienced, half decent second choice players like Phillips and Origi will mean our training sessions are always at a decent level and help keep our first choice players on their toes. There’s a place for this type of player at the club, especially if they are happy and settled.

10.) 31 Aug 2021 18:18:59
A good thing for Nat Mark? not good for the club either, needless wages running into the millions being paid when were supposedly broke.

11.) 31 Aug 2021 18:25:45
Ah, so Philips did sign a new contract then? I wonder now will he go out on loan to a PL or Bundesliga club and it will be the first thing I've ever got right on transfer day?

12.) 31 Aug 2021 18:35:20
Saul to Chelsea done.

13.) 31 Aug 2021 18:40:49
Traing games? give over will ye, four senior centrehalves been helped out with the clubs best kids when injuries occur have always being enough for this club. For all Premier league clubs, especially one that will NEVER play 3 at the back. i get it, we all like Nat i like Nat myself but this is overkill and bad for the blokes career unless its setting up a loan.

14.) 31 Aug 2021 20:36:24
Another embarrassing Liverpool supporter, still sporting a hilarious username made up of two players who will never play for the club whilst slagging the club off for extending the contract of players who probably add to our problematic homegrown number AND helped us to land 3rd place last season which looked lost at one point. Nat thanks you for your support….

15.) 31 Aug 2021 21:17:22
JH, have you ever considered what Philips wants?
Because at the moment it's all about what you want.
The club is happy, Philips is happy, it's only you that seems to be unhappy. Why is that?

16.) 31 Aug 2021 22:07:25
Also could see joe be a cover right back, and Phillips cb. Reserve back four being gomez konate phillips and kostas.

17.) 01 Sep 2021 01:57:53
It’s a bit like Bez at the Mondays eh?

18.) 01 Sep 2021 06:46:36
Embarassing that someone actually gives a f%$k about a username on a rumour site, probably care how many followers you have on the twitter-verse aswell. Look, just because someone disagrees with the narrative it doesn't make them wrong or embarassing. Phillips done well last year, the huge chances are he won't get the chance to do a fraction as well this season and his value will further decline. i'll leave it at that.

19.) 01 Sep 2021 07:48:00
Naah mate, don’t give a monkeys about Twitter so you’re wrong on that point too. And I stand by the username thing, it’s easily changed, why would a Liverpool supporter use a name made up from Chelsea/ United players, it doesn’t make sense. But you carry on slating the players if that makes you happy.

20.) 01 Sep 2021 08:06:59
Keep it up and i'll change it to Christiano Niguez! Say that'll totally infuriate ye. And your not slating players the minute you say the slightest thing negative.

Hi Ed002. It has been reported today that Dejan Lovren has a few suitors this summer. A price of £18m has been suggested but I don't know where they've plucked that from. Lazio, AC Milan, Lyon are all mentioned and, somewhat surprisingly, Tottenham and Arsenal.

Also today, his potential replacement, Diego Carlos is in the news. Rumours that we approached his representatives in January but these were rebuffed due to him not wanting to move mid-season. Do you have any information on whether Carlos is open to the move to us or potentially waiting for Real Madrid?

With Lovren being behind Matip and Gomez and his replacement eyed as a starter, I do wonder what Matip will think of this. With the emergence of Gomez in the second half of this season I started to question whether a younger, perhaps home-grown option would be better to replace Lovren. Klopp does seem to be a bit harsher on Gomez's performances than others. Tends to speak of improvements needed in his game and so I can see Carlos coming in if Klopp wants and of course the player himself.

barnesybob

{Ed002's Note - Milan were interested last year but that interest has likely gone with them having identified several options for this summer - and they have serious money issues that mean they have to balance the books. Lovren spent a year or two at Lyon but their priority is RM, CM, S and possibly RW. Possible but I am not so sure they have shown any interest. Lazio is a better option as a Plan B to first choice replacement for Luiz Felipe who is expected to leave in the summer. I am not aware of any approaches by Arsenal or Spurs.

We have dealt with this before: Diego Carlos (CB) Manchester City have dropped their interest and are looking at others. Real Madrid has a sustained interest and Liverpool has declared an interest in taking DC in the summer as the player wants to see the season out. If this happens, I would think it would be the big move for the club this summer and would leave Gomez picking up pieces across the defence. The player would want assurances about game time as he would be a starter.

Matip will know that he is not going to be first choice going forward - in the same way that this could see Nathaniel Phillips thinking about future options.}

1.) 16 Mar 2020 13:21:25
Hi Ed002, with everything being so up-in-the-air at the moment due to the SARS CoV 2 virus, do you think there will be a knock on effect to the summer transfer window?

{Ed002's Note - It is a good question and depends on when the decision comes to draw the line across or when the games are played. The issue of contracts running out June 30 will likely see UEFA agree to month on month extensions or even game by game. If it could be completed by say August 30 then you could see the window reduced to one month potentially.}

2.) 16 Mar 2020 12:30:37
I must admit I often overlook Phillips due to his lack of game time, I imagine he would look to leave after gaining a lot of first team football this season. He signed a new contract last summer. I imagine that was to protect his value or hope that he does well on loan. Perhaps if he leaves, Lovren leaves and Matip considers then the defence will need a couple of new faces? Or Hoever and van den Berg will need to rapidly step up. Interested to see what happens. Many thanks.

3.) 16 Mar 2020 13:21:25

Potentially in turn Ed we could we see the end to this football season running on until say July or August?

{Ed002's Note - At won't restart in a couple of weeks. At some point a decision needs to be made - and probably by the start of May the decision will be an informed one and the EPL can continue an intrude in to the summer a little, or it will then need to have the line drawn across and preparations made for next season.}

5.) 16 Mar 2020 15:02:57
Thanks, Ed002.you've already answered the next question I had about contracts. With the infection pattern across Europe, I'd be surprised if they manage to finish domestic leagues without serious compromises by all national leagues.

{Ed002's Note - It needs a rule change by FIFA - just for say 12 months.}

6.) 16 Mar 2020 15:52:28
Thanks Ed, appreciate you are mainly giving us what you no on the same subject. I hope this season does get concluded, even if it is May and behind closed doors.

I notice there's been a lot of talk about Conor Bradley on the pages of late. What a great loan it's been for all concerned; Bolton potentially promoted, Liverpool getting great experience for a player who plays in a position where back-up (or more) is needed, Conor breaking into his national team starting 11 and cementing his place as first choice. It's rare to have such positives come out of a deal like this. Made up for the lad most of all.

Last night he won Player of the Season, Players's Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season at Bolton's end of year awards. Great stuff. Hope he's full of confidence come the pre-season.

1.) 30 Apr 2023 13:54:20
Looking forward to seeing the kid in pre season games and possibly some cup games next season.

I know Ramsey has taken some stick but I’m also looking forward to seeing him in action as he came with so much promise.

2.) 30 Apr 2023 19:25:49
If Trent moves into Midfield properly as I feel he should I think Bradley and Ramsey will be sufficient for the RB slot. Bradley for all the reasons as above and for the short spells we saw Ramsey I think he looked right at home. Got some good youngsters coming through at the min. Let’s hope we give them a chance.

3.) 30 Apr 2023 21:20:30
OP, then you have to ask yourself why on earth did we sign an injured Ramsay whereas we had Bradley who already played games in the first team last season and knew the system inside out?

4.) 01 May 2023 09:26:03
If Trent moves into midfield, those 2 could rotate - Gomez also sn option if needed

Would also mean we maybe don't need as many midfield options as previously thought on these pages?

A quality cdm is one position I think is absolutely key for us - I mentioned on an earlier thread too Gvardiol would be a great signing as well as Ndicka on a free as this would enable us to revitalise at cb and sell a couple there we currently have

That's 2 cbs and a quality cdm, balanced by selling 2 cbs - maybe another quality cm (loads of names mentioned on here) - thoughts lads? Surely doable no?

Liverpool make the final again. There's just something about Liverpool and this competition. I don't know what it is, whether it's the famous 'Anfield atmosphere' or maybe our history. Having previous always helps. It enables the fans and the players to always have hope. To remember past victories and spur each other on. I just can't quite put my finger on it. City haven't got that yet, they're building that now. Maybe that is what it is. Anfield isn't just to our benefit. It's famous for being detrimental to teams that come here. Maybe teams turn up thinking a great comeback could happen against them?

What do you all think it is? Maybe I'm overthinking it and it's just easier to say that we're one of the best teams in the world?

For fact fans; Liverpool at the end of the season will have played in 5 of the last 18 Champions League finals. We qualified only 12 times. That's a final nearly 50% of the time we play in the Champions League. There's a few semi finals and a Europa League final in there too.

It's all over. What an 11 months. We've argued, disagreed and despaired with each other but most importantly we've celebrated together. I, for one, am most grateful as I live in Kent, and although I have red friends down here, I haven't been able to discuss and get caught up in all the emotion of this year because of lockdown and other factors. You lot have been here, at the touch of a button, after every single game, after every single win, after every bit of news and you're going to be part of my memory of winning the league.

I thought it wouldn't finish, we were stuck on 82 points for months while we waited for news of a restart. In the end Man City reached 81 points. How thankful we should be that it wasn't 'null and voided' and this country is getting back on its feet.

Eds. thanks. Ed001, what a site you have, thanks for everything in keeping it going. Ed002, the insight you give us is truly excellent, I don't know if you know how appreciated your time is but I'm definitely grateful for it. Ed025, thanks for reminding us constantly that things could be worse and we could support Everton and all of the reality checks you give us.

Have a good fortnight everyone, then it's back to pre-season, we've got a title to defend.

barnesybob

{Ed025's Note - very nice that bob, cheers mate..

1.) 26 Jul 2020 23:23:26
No fortnight off for me I'm going to be on here every day reminding everyone that we are Premier, European and World Champions.

2.) 27 Jul 2020 03:40:50
Great Post Bob, although we ain't defending it, we're attacking it with everything we've got 😉 up the reds.

3.) 26 Jul 2020 23:23:51
Well said. Cheers Eds, much appreciated. I'll get back one day for that pint at Flannagan's Apple 025.

{Ed025's Note - look forward to it burkey mate..

Hi Ed002, a question on scouting/ transfers. Are scouts set 'assignments' as such? As in, head of scouting gets told by manager/ director of football what position or type of player is required? Or is it more keeping a list of players, keeping a close eye on their careers and target them when required? Maybe both.

Also, sort of linked to the previous question. If targets change, for instance a worldwide C.V. (I know I'm getting far-fetched here) disrupts finances and clubs have to adapt and lower their outgoings and focus on creative deals like player swaps. Would they change targets to somebody not previously scouted or is this irresponsible as in panic buying? We know Shaqiri could potentially be offered as a makeweight in a deal for Carlos, but more to my point and a better example. you mentioned Grujic's people have spoken to Lazio, would Liverpool think 'Let's have a look at Milinkovic-Savic or Luis Alberto because they're more what we need. ' Obviously you've not mentioned these players before, just asking. Will clubs be doing this at the moment? Acting dynamic or just reckless?

Personally I'd be happier to stick (unpopular opinion) so I'm not purposely throwing names out to give you a headache.

barnesybob

{Ed002's Note - Scouts are generally given a a free hand by clubs and come uip with players who may not be a natural fix.}

1.) 19 Jun 2020 04:03:25
Didn't Luis Alberto play for us a while back and flopped? Or was that a different Luis Alberto?

2.) 19 Jun 2020 09:44:55
Same one.

25 Mar 2020 23:02:35
Ed001, for something to do over the next two weeks could I propose a Liverpool Rumours best Liverpool 11 vote?

Something along the lines of every day at midday you create a post for votes on each position? So tomorrow could be GK, the next RB, then 2 CBS, LB etc.

I think the only issue would be selecting a formation as in 442 or 433. If we could choose 3 central midfielders, and 2 strikers we could do both formations as long as somebody could count up the comments, for example myself or you.

In terms of our current side, and Rafa's 4231, and Kenny's late eighties formation we could class Salah, Mané, Kuyt, Barnes and Beardsley as wingers. We could make it clearer on each daily post who qualifies for each position.

The results of the previous vote could be revealed at the beginning of the next post.

barnesybob

{Ed033's Note - For each poll, i need a question and voting options for people to vote on

One of the best in the league this year without a shadow of a doubt. Monster. A replacement for Fabinho if he was for sale.

At 27 I think he’d be ready to improve us instantly. A shame if he’s not considered.

There’s videos of him going around showing how he can’t control a football. It’s like a clip of his worst bits. Quite funny. Goes to show what a YouTube video could do. I’ve only seen him play against us, no idea what he’s like on a consistent basis. I don’t know how you all have time to watch Portuguese football. I barely get time to watch English, and even that is only Liverpool games.

He is coveted though, usually tells you something about the player.

I really like the look of Jesper Lindstrøm. Frankfurt play a back 3, wing backs for width. Lindstrøm plays behind the striker as one of two number 10s almost. So he drifts out to the right and comes inside. He’s a workhorse and tricky. I think he’d be great. Can play all across the front and not like Firmino and Jota who apparently can but I think are a little ineffective in wider areas.

Whether he’d be high up my list or not, maybe not so sure. I do think we need an alternative to Salah sometimes. Diaz, Nunez, Gakpo, Salah and Lindstrøm would be a great mix for me. With youngsters after that.

But that midfield must be sorted first.

Last time Fabinho had to play centre back it took us months to realise that playing 2 actual centre backs was a much better idea. Phillips and Williams came in and saw us through.

I think the whole side needs to settle for a while and get back to basics personally. I trust the manager to sort this out, I really do. It’s always so tempting to think of different options when things are not going well but this moving players around fad on the forum still strikes me as strange.

What would you do with the midfield? Still play 3 in there? Go with experience if we were to sit back? Again, sitting back doesn’t really suit us in my eyes and would add to the confusion of players being out of position.

I’d love to know an answer to our form too. We’ve been spoilt the last few years and I much prefer the days of trying to guess how much we were going to win by.

Was going to say Shaqiri but remembered it was a Euro’s game. What a strike that was, overhead from the edge of the box.

I’ll vote for Owen’s strike too, my first World Cup I remember.
