Chelsea’s midfield next year - Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic. All playing under Napoli’s ex manager. I think we can safely say we have lost Harry to Chelsea Rumours this season.

{Ed0333's Note - Harry’s either masturbating right now or self harming.

1.) 08 Aug 2018 17:44:43
🤣 classic Ed0333.

2.) 08 Aug 2018 16:33:50
ROFL 🤣 Ed0333.

3.) 08 Aug 2018 16:47:24
Classed as the same thing in some quarters Ed.

{Ed0333's Note - True dat my friend.

4.) 08 Aug 2018 17:09:46
Or both simultaneously Ed0333.

{Ed0333's Note - I’m assuming he still has two hands so quite possible.

Ed002, I hope your travels are going smoothly. From what I understand both Liverpool and Real Madrid had 2 ‘lists’ for their GK targets this year. Liverpool’s have been dealt with on this page quite a bit. With Madrid signing Lunin and seemingly Alisson soon, it’s a couple struck from Liverpool’s targets.

I’m happy to send this to a different page if you like, but it seems Liverpool’s targets are being affected by Real Madrid’s activity quite a bit. With Strakosha being the other on the ‘2nd’ list, but being priced at £35million (ish) do you think Liverpool will just be looking to bring in the one ‘keeper?

Navas will obviously be feeling a bit pushed out and Strakosha would have to be first choice at that price. Perhaps one of these 2. I assume the plan was to sell 2, bring in 2 but being open to 1 in 2 out and looking to Grabara as third choice.

{Ed002's Note - Well, Lunin was the other GK that Liverpool were interested in as I explained. Liverpool will need to go in to next season with three rather than four GKs. I expected them to release Bogdan but they haven't. Ward has the interest of Swansea and hopefully Liverpool will give him the opportunity to get his career back on track if he has no future at Liverpool. The fans have done for Karius as you know. If he were to stay, and had an opportunity, and made a single mistake then I dread to think what would happen. Mignolet was of interest to Napoli but they are embroiled in figuring out otehr solutions. So I don't know. Whatever Real Madrid do will not impact Liverpool. Macca has said Butlan is the man and maybe he is. We will see. Lunin would have been a good addition but the club and the fans seemingly only want expensive solutions - maybe at the behest of the owners. It has been made clear to me that Brugge already have the goalkeeping bargain of the summer in their signing of Karlo Letica.}

1.) 20 Jun 2018 19:02:15
Thanks Ed, I really appreciate your replies. Lunin certainly does look like a player with enormous potential and great current ability. I hope he gets time and the environment to develop at Madrid and wish him well. I’ll take your word on Letica, not even come across him before to be honest. You have some good little birdies in your ear. I imagine you being a bit like the eunuch from Game of Thrones. Of course, I’m sure you’ve never seen it.

{Ed002's Note - Indeed I have never seen Game of Thrones.}

2.) 20 Jun 2018 19:08:13
Cheers for the update Ed2.

3.) 20 Jun 2018 19:18:50
Varys, great show, great books and great character.

4.) 20 Jun 2018 19:52:11
Ed2 is the queen of thorns, Ed1 is Ser Barristan Selmy.

12 Jun 2018 09:53:48
I’ve used the search function and read a lot of opinions on Nick Pope. I haven’t managed to find any evidence of genuine interest in him though.

I appreciate that we had/ have interest in Navas and Alisson. I also understand Macca believed we were interested in Butland but we may have changed course. Now it’s being reported that we have taken a step back from Alisson because of the price. People won’t agree with this but that’s good in my eyes, too much money on a player who, like Pope has had one good season, in a different league, albeit he is more suited to our style of play.

So do we know who was further down the list so to speak? Is there interest in Pope, will we go back to Butland? If what Macca said is true, and I was Butland, there’s no way I’d sign for a club after looking for houses and then the club says ‘actually we’re going to look for a better option because our keeper had a Weston in the UCL final. ’

Maybe Navas will be looked at once the merry go round begins? Is that the expectation now? I understand if you simply cannot know but maybe we could have an article on goalkeepers? Thanks.

1.) 12 Jun 2018 10:11:43
Ed001, I was going to start another thread, but I might as well piggy back on this one. I've seen various people talking about Pope and why he may be a good or better option than Butland etc. My question is what is your opinion of him as a keeper? We seem to have a crop of English keepers who people rate higher than they should because they are English, and Pope, I think, falls into this category. Like Pickford, when he played for Sunderland, got lots of exposure (or exposed lots of times) and looked better than he seems to be. Put them in a more progressive team, where they get less protection and have to make better decisions and their flaws get exposed.

{Ed001's Note - I did a player profile on him a few weeks back: HERE

2.) 12 Jun 2018 10:13:27
I don't mind doing an article on keepers mate. Might try a new writing style I've been playing around with.

3.) 12 Jun 2018 10:49:52
Sound like Adam’s on it. Thanks, I know we share similar views on Pope. Perhaps you could throw in something on how important it really is to have a keeper to fit a team. distribution or whether it’s better to have an Oblak (who also plays in a defensive team) who is great or a run of the mill keeper who fits better.
Alisson, although capped by Brazil a few times before his move to Roma, has had his best season this year at 25. Could there be 2 keepers coming? Karius and how he continues.

4.) 12 Jun 2018 12:29:38
English, Adam?

5.) 12 Jun 2018 12:40:53
Cheers ed, must’ve missed that one. Pretty much tallies in with my thoughts exactly. Makes a good highlight reel, but would be frustrating a lot of the time when his all round game is called in to question.

{Ed001's Note - spot on mate.}

01 Jun 2018 08:09:19
When is the GK carousel going to start turning then? I seem to remember Ed002 saying this year would be likely. Great call.

Alisson, Oblak, Meret, Leno, Courtois, Cillessen, Lunin, Perrin, Butland, Mignolet, Navas, Donnarumma. The year of the Goalie.

Just by that list we’re looking at new keepers (or back up keepers) for Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, AC Milan, Udinese, Roma, Leverkusen. Oh, and Zorya Luhansk and Stoke. Fair bit of competition there.

1.) 01 Jun 2018 08:26:38
Forgetting Reina, Buffon, PSG, Napoli and Inter.

2.) 01 Jun 2018 08:45:03
Mignolet is so out of place in that list.

3.) 01 Jun 2018 11:27:01
DaRedMan, actually it's odd man out ;)

4.) 01 Jun 2018 11:55:58
According to german reports Leno is going to sign for Napoli and Hradecky (ex-Frankfurt) already signed for leverkusen.

Also Leno has a release clausle of 25mil € till the end of june if im not mistaken so he is moving this month 100%.

5.) 01 Jun 2018 11:49:41
Maybe Bogdan will join that list! 😂.

07 Jan 2018 10:43:09
Ed002, Pretty much every club that has a player linked with us has said they won’t be selling in January. This includes Monaco, Leicester, RBL. Is this posturing? Knowing that Liverpool have Some money to spend and a creative hole in the squad? I’m not an expert at reading into these things. Are Monaco really saying that he’s not for sale unless you give us most of that money you have? Or is it a case of Liverpool not doing the obvious and replacing Coutinho the midfielder instead of Coutinho the left winger? In which case the media are linking the wrong players?

{Ed002's Note - Not really, clubs don't like to sell in January because they don't plan to do so and they cannot get replacements. The thing is that the Liverpool fans want instant gratification and don't really care who arrives as long as they are expensive and it happens soon. Monaco has a lot more money than Liverpool and Liverpool has not approached them to buy Lemar - and they have said nothing like that to Liverpool. Michael Emanalo has made that very clear. Perhaps in the summer one of the interested sides can persuade them to sell.}

1.) 07 Jan 2018 11:00:05
Thank you very much. I’d agree, there is a lot of people just wanting a player at the moment. Lemar looks like he’s not coming. Liverpool are not interested in Mahrez. Gelson, no contact. Keita, only in the summer. Goretzka, Bayern bound?
I have a feeling there might be somewhat of a meltdown very soon.

2.) 07 Jan 2018 11:00:15
Oh, and thanks.

3.) 07 Jan 2018 11:08:05
I don't want us just to sign anyone ed, it needs to be the right person, surely we will at least try to bring in one of the targets you have suggested.

4.) 07 Jan 2018 11:14:06
What meltdown? We have seen several times how well the team performed without Coutinho this season. It would have been great if Coutinho stayed but still we will thrive without him.

5.) 07 Jan 2018 11:26:06
So no team what's to sell their players in January, because it's so hard to replace them and you end up paying a lot more, except for Liverpool that is, the geniuses at our club decide to significantly weaken our team without any planning for a replacement it would seem, not one person connected to football has said this makes sense in anyway, utter madness, if we get no replacement in and miss out on top 4, what is that worth to the club? 40 odd million.

6.) 07 Jan 2018 11:31:59
I don’t think we’re planning on signing anyone else in January. Here’s why:
-I’m being negative again (no, not really 😉)
-Whoever comes in will have to put up with Klopp’s rotation. I think that’s a hard sell in January in World Cup year if you are a player that’s currently playing week in/ out at another club. There’s no indication LFC are selling anyone else in January, we’re pretty heavily stocked in midfield as it is plus in the summer Keita is joining.
-Since the rumblings about Coutinho wanting to leave last summer we’ve bought Oxlade, Keita and VVD all record signings at the time. We’ve spent money already. IMO.
-The Premier league title has gone this season, that’s reality as far as I’m concerned. We are also out of the league cup. We are competing for top 4, FA cup and Champions league. I think the current squad is big enough to cope with that. Any player we get will be likely cup tied for FAcup or Champions league anyway.
-The addition of VVD will offset the loss of Coutinho IMO. Creating chances has been simple this season, we seem to score a low percentage of the chances we create, but still we are one of the top scorers. Defence has been our weakness and that’s why VVD will make an impact.
-January is a tough market to get right.

So I think in Ox, Keita, VVD and indeed Robertson (who has provided Moreno with much needed competition) we have gone a long way to addressing some of our major weaknesses. It will stand us in good stead for next season. VVD has half a season to build up a strong understanding with the rest of the defensive unit.

If no-one else comes in there will be no meltdown from me. We’re building slowly and steadily. I expect lots of movement during the World Cup summer. I think we’ll lose a few high profile players eg Can, Milner, maybe Lallana, Clyne, Sturridge perhaps Migs and Lovren. We will continue to build and improve.

Well stated, Ron. Bravo, sir.

The Express are just about the worst. What they will do is pick up any story from around the world, attribute a sensationalist headline to it, then publish it.

You know a lot of papers have transfer ‘whispers’ lists? The kind even they know are not true? Well the Express is a whole transfer whispers rag.

To the person who asked about Pope. If you could guarantee that he would always be as good (or improve) as he was this season then I would definitely say yes to him. But we can’t, and I just wonder if it’s one of those English players who has a good year and then Liverpool buys them to save some money. I do like him though, best English keeper in my opinion.

I see the consensus on Ceballos is that he would play the deeper lying role. I confess to not seeing anything of him live, I only watch Liverpool.
From what I have seen of him on the one and only YT, I can’t imagine it. I don’t think he has played there before and looks more of a link up player, running with the ball, short passes into forwards etc.
Like I said, I don’t know, only ever get time to watch Liverpool and YouTube as we all know is no real scouting tool but is that what we think is to happen with him if signed?

Probably not. But maybe Henrichs. It looks as though Monaco will probably get themselves out of trouble and he’ll stay there seeing as he only signed last year. Can’t think of many who can do both, at least to a good standard.

I see what you’re both saying, I think you’ve misunderstood Ed though. Ed is saying we need more points than City to win the league, we only have to do the same as them for the rest of the season. But winning and forcing them further behind obviously helps us to achieve the points needed to better their final points tally sooner and for all our benefit. The team will be insisting on a must-win mentality here on out I would imagine and rightly so. Ed didn't mean free hit in the way it’s probably easy to construe. He’s saying we don’t have a desperate need to be 7 points clear, but we do have a desperate need to stay in front. Telling the team that though would be a bad idea.

Hope the break benefits us. Going to feel like a long time until that Leicester game. City play four times before we even play again, although one game may feature a few of their under 9s to see if they can handle the pressure of holding on to a 9-0 lead.

Hoping for no new injuries and for the injuries to clear in time for our next batch of games.

Knew him well through a family member and would cross paths. He has sort of not grown up, I like how he played with a smile but it eventually became unprofessional and playing to the new type of fan who would go on to make him famous. Did well to get called up for England from starting out in non-league though and keeps his wife and kids mostly out of the spotlight.
The one thing that sticks in my mind about him from when I last saw him was when the football was on the tv, and you couldn’t talk to him, he just wouldn’t hear. He absolutely studied the game and certain players in his role. As Ed said, if he kept that determination he might well be known as a decent ex footballer instead of the funny man.

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame as he had a lot of talent.}

Bruce Springsteen is the soundtrack to everyday struggles in American life. Only problem is I’m not American, I think they are more proud to have him than think he’s a musical genius.
