News reports this morning are basically saying Neymar turned up to training, told the squad he is off and left. One of his agents, (one of how? many does he need? ), is supposedly in Paris. Now I appreciate Barcelona want Coutinho as his replacement but considering Neymar seems to have been the one in Coutinho's ear for so long does this make it less likely he would go there? The Neymar transfer seems to be a bit of a mess so could that closeness backfire on Barcelona and he tell PC to avoid? Is there a feel for whether the desire to play there or the connection to his Brazilian team mate is the stronger driver? Or am I just clutching at straws? (As an aside I've never really got the assumption that Portuguese soeaking/ influenced Brazilians automatically want to play for a Spanish club) .

Have to admit i did think this aswell!

2.) 02 Aug 2017 09:45:35
By that argument he could be of interest to PSG also.

Friends are important but Barcelona are still a huge club so it wouldn't change much. Also Couts was never seen as Neymar's replacement (frankly that would be a downgrade), he was being looked at for their midfield. I can see Barcelona switching their focus to Mbappe now which may impact their pursuit of Couts.

I still can't believe Paris are willing to pay so much for Neymar. He is an excellent player, but also comes across like Justn Bieber with his attitude. He is not worth it.
And yes, I think if he leaves Barcelona then Couts will not be as committed to jumping ship, which is looking good since Neymar has pissed off most of his team mates.

Barca will move for Sanchez the man Neymar replaced. Simple option better player than neymar. Just needs a i have never forgotten you phone call from messi.

You are aware of why Sanchez left Barca. he won't be going back there.

For me buying him would be a repeat of the Ibe and Markovic situation where the club spent good money on a player they essentially already had and screwed up on both. If have a choice I'd put the time and effort into the 17 year old with potential rather than spend money on an older player whose advantage comes from age and game time and isn't significantly enough better to justify blocking existing players.

Biggest thing with being at Barcelona is pretty much guaranteed ECL every year because of the league they are in.

I Do think people are confusing wanting to play for Barcelona with not wanting to play for Liverpool. Nothing has been said by him about anywhere else. He'd prefer to be at Barcelona but that doesn't mean he'll go if say Chelsea or Bayern bid for him.

Who are these 10 better keepers? Lloris granted is the best in the league and De Gea is also better, couple of others may be significantly better but how many other keepers in EPL are sufficiently better to make the team championship material? And how many of those are available - the answer to first is not 10 and the answer to second is a big fat zero.

That isn't to big him up by the way but to state that this idea there are 10 better keepers at least in the EPL is exageration. There is a big gap in quality keepers these days and right now Mignolet is very much part of a decent but not special bunch. And don't seriously believe LFC is going to get a top level keeper any time soon. You could sign one of the "better" keepers and the difference will be barely noticeable. Very few in the world today are any good at coming for the ball or organising defences. The latter is hardly a surprise since so few teams actually rely on their keepers to do it these days. As I say moan all you like but there isn't a top level keeper moving to Merseyside in the near future so the club needs to make things work with what they have. It is one position that no amount of money is going to solve. So plenty of lipstick required for that particular pig I'm afraid.

I think people obsess with idea defence is the place to make the solution but in reality the other sides competing for top 4 have some flakey defenders. In most cases they get around it cos they hassle and scare other teams. Liverpool hassle but not as efficiently but do not scare anyone. I think all the "weaker" teams fancy beating Liverpool but don't fancy it against the other top sides. The fact they know they can shut up shop and nick a goal is a major problem. If teams worried that they couldn't contain Liverpool theyd possibly be less sur e about attacking the weak areas.

Question for Eds is the problem just Klopp had limited targets or is the scouting set up not producing enough optons or are the options just not there?

{Ed001's Note - mix of all 3 really.}

Why is it a fiction that al is ok? People do want to assume the worst. He wants to go to Barcelona. No other clubs are in his options or so far been mentioned as in his plans. That alone shows what waffle the not happy for months stuff is. From all the evidence there is more chance he will knuckle down and play on than he will be a problem. If he was desperate to leave, hated Klopp, hated the club etc he wouldn't have signed that contract, exta money or not. Also the way the club aren't rubbishing him shows a good attitude on their side and a belief he will get stuck in if stays. So far I still see this as a Barcelona or he stays and wants to play for LFC. The rest just comes across as people with a gain from him moving are stirring it via media.

Are those the reports that have the usual BS source attached to them of close friend etc that no one wants to stick their name to? Until one of the eds confirms that the reports of rifts are true i'm viewing them as interested parties trying to manipulate not truth.

I'd like one of those 4 to be picking up regular goals to support whatever Firminho gets. I think if Mane stays fit he is good for 15 or so in a season and Salah looks like he could get double figs. 40 from those 3 with the 4 main strikers getting 10-15 between them should be fine if the rest can chip in with goals. The challenge on that front is when Firminho has a bad day, which he has where he has missed a bucket full, someone else has to step up. Otherwise those key wins against weaker sides won't come. Plus need to cut out the dozen or so careless goals where players just switch off.

Considering the stories from before he arrived Klopp is far from responsible for all the tapping up. There would seem to be an inbuilt culture at the club regardless of the manager. Klopp just seems to be yet another stage in the problem, albeit one that seems to have a problem with keeping away from other clubs players.
