ed2 do you expect the potential arrival of keita to make a difference to Can leaving or is it unrelated?

irishred

{Ed002's Note - Emre Can will move to Juventus - they would prefer that to happen at the end of the season but if Liverpool are reasonable of a transfer fee now he could move this month. Certainly having Nobby available would help facilitate that.}

1.) 13 Jan 2018 10:45:06
If the extra fee that RBL want and what we could get for can now are similar there may be a compromise.

2.) 13 Jan 2018 11:03:37
First get hendo back fit and playing then look to facilitate something like that. Otherwise what’s the point, I don’t even think naby can play in the CL for us can he? If that’s the case keep emre, no point doing something else this month that’s illogical.

3.) 13 Jan 2018 11:05:12
Isn't Keita going to be cup tied? Won't we be short in midfield if Can goes in Jan?

4.) 13 Jan 2018 11:06:02
That is extremely doubtful Den82, juve won't offer more than 5-6 million euros.

5.) 13 Jan 2018 11:09:58
Keita and VVD would help address two of our main weaknesses so far this season in terms of our CBs and the lack of goals from midfield, specifically the bod to box roles of Milner/ Gini. Obviously the GK situation is not ideal, nor is the loss of Coutinho but with Karius playing more and Lallana back from injury I think we can survive until next season if the right player to address those doesn’t come available.

6.) 13 Jan 2018 10:43:11
I’ve i missed something is kietia joining this month ed?

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

7.) 13 Jan 2018 12:10:48
In relation to Kman92, I will keep it short.

Problem = Weak centre midfield.
Solution or a piece in solving that area = Naby Keita.

8.) 13 Jan 2018 12:31:50
If that is the case and Can leaves with Nabby arriving that will leave only GiGi, Hendo (if fit), Ox and Lallana for midfield as Nabby is cup tied for CL is he not? Oh hang on when Griezmann signs we can drop Bobby back deeper! Sorry couldn't resist.

9.) 13 Jan 2018 12:40:36
Given that Keita can’t play in the CL we may as well keep Can since the pittance of a transfer fee we could get wouldn’t make up for an early exit.

10.) 13 Jan 2018 12:58:30
Stupid to sell can now.

11.) 13 Jan 2018 13:09:38
No way. Is it better to have a couple of extra million in the bank or a decent holding midfield option for the rest of the season?

12.) 13 Jan 2018 15:39:09
I for one hope that Naby comes in now and EMRE stays till @ least Summer. CL awaits us and he could go out a LFC Hero (Ataturk)

Definitely looking forward to the rest of the season with VVD at the back. (Its a huge boost defensively but I don't expect regular clean sheets just yet) GK needs addressing but I'm sure JK has a short list. defensive midfileder a must

Tomrrows the day for payback, No red cards for the REDMEN and expose Cit-ehs defensive frailties.

Hi Eds,

Seeing a lot of talk about illarramendi, not sure if there's real interest but do you think that would be a pointless buy? Is he actually an upgrade on our many other midfielders?

irishred

{Ed002's Note - If Liverpool buy Illarramendi it will be a devastating blow for Lucas who was due to leave in January but was persuaded by the club to stay on the basis he had a future at the club. Real Madrid will look for a significant fee for Asier Illarramendi who is of interest to Real Sociedad and Napoli, in addition to Arsenal and in particular Athletic Bilbao who were negotiating a January transfer. Will almost certainly move in the summer. I understand Inter Milan and AC Milan dropped what interest they had after being told that the player would look for a return to the Basque country if he leaves. Real Madrid say the only club they have spoken to about the player is Bilbao at this time but they are aware of interest from elsewhere.}

Hi eds,

There has been some talk of trying to tie Firmino down on a new deal, do you know if its true and if the club will make an offer to him soon?
Deserves all the plaudits and would hope that he's happy enough at the club to stay long term. What a player.

irishred

{Ed002's Note - I don’t know to be honest.}

06 Jan 2018 22:30:03
As ed002 would say, Mahrez certainly has the stupid hairstyle for Liverpool haha.

He is a great player but would not replace either mane or Salah on the wings (where he plays) so i would rather use get our #1 who I assume is Lemar.

irishred

1.) 06 Jan 2018 23:07:12
What if mane out of form or injured same wid Salah it's nice to have options plus we could play mahrez behind say Salah an firminio in a diamond with obviously mane as well or a flat 3 up front we building a squad.

2.) 06 Jan 2018 23:27:33
Manes been off the boil this season. So actually he could replace mane if he performs. Also he could be a buy looking on to next season if salah is an option to Madrid.

ed001,

Apologies of you've already answered but if you got watching the derby last night what did you make of VVD overall? I liked how vocal he was to the other defenders and goalkeepers. Of course a winner didn't hurt either.

Also very sorry for your loss, hope your friend is at peace. YNWA.

irishred

{Ed001's Note - I have actually been doing a match review, but it has been impossible to finish it yet due to the site going crazy when the Coutinho deal came out.

And thank you, he will be in a much better place out of his suffering now.}

1.) 06 Jan 2018 20:37:41
Looks in control on the ball and though the back 4 look
Quite steady for first time in years . definitely need a top keeper.

03 Jan 2018 21:44:16
Ed1,

Who do you feel is the best to partner VVD of our current defenders?

irishred

{Ed001's Note - Gomez long term, short term probably Klavan for consistency.}

1.) 04 Jan 2018 04:59:26
Agree 100%, Lovren looks great but then every now and again makes a clanger of a decision which costs us a goal, while Matip doesn’t look up for it enough and doesn’t tackle back or cover his team mates effectively IMO.

Klavan is unspectacular but also very effective, and underrated for his ability to compete with most physical of players while still being deceptively good playing out from the back.

I reckon he should hold the position with VVD until Gomez (and TAA) are both ready to start at CB and RB respectively.

2.) 04 Jan 2018 10:44:56
I wouldn’t say Lovren looks great like some games he looks better but the inevitable mistake is always in there.

12 Dec 2017 10:35:22
Ed1,

Always appreciate your opinions. You've probably given your opinion on this lots but what's your take on the Gerrard v Lampard v Scholes argument. Who was the all round better player?

I just ask because Toni Kroos tweeted that it was Scholes. Obviously my bias says Gerrard but would love your take.

irishred

{Ed001's Note - tough one that. Lampard made the absolute most of his ability but he was the least naturally gifted. Scholes was a wonderful passer and a good goal scorer, he was not so good at tackling but knew how to get away with nasty little fouls which should have seen him booked. Gerrard was a driving force with the most natural talent but he should have been more. He should have been the complete midfielder but he focused so much on trying to score that he forgot about the rest of the game and never made the most of the talent he had for tackling and spent too much time looking to play Hollywood balls to the detriment of the quick short passing game. They were all great in different ways to be honest.}

1.) 12 Dec 2017 11:17:17
So ed who was best? ;)

{Ed001's Note - best passer was Scholes, best goalscorer was Lampard but Gerrard was the best all rounder.}

2.) 12 Dec 2017 12:13:30
I think Xabi was a more complete midfielder Harry, Gerrard was class and will always be a legend, but Xabi for me, was a better player.

3.) 12 Dec 2017 12:25:58
Xabi Alonso was better than all 3 of them.

4.) 12 Dec 2017 12:43:23
"he could find my missing gf with his passes" hahaha.

5.) 12 Dec 2017 12:45:38
Alonso was fantastic but if I could only have one of him and Gerrard I'd pick Gerrard every time.

I almost regret him not going to Chelsea in 2005, at a club with top tier resources he would have been a Ballon d'Or contender.

6.) 12 Dec 2017 15:46:21
Scholes was the best of the 3 IMO.

7.) 12 Dec 2017 15:47:15
And backwards .

8.) 12 Dec 2017 17:00:44
When xabi Alonso left Liverpool the ass fell out the whole thing he was different class an never replaced properly instead we got aquilani, nuff said.

9.) 13 Dec 2017 00:42:46
You forget the 2007/ 08 season Alonso spent a lot of time on the bench and Rafa wanted to replace him with Barry! I think when the arse fell out of Liverpool there was more than just losing Alonso going on. Great player and I loved him but he was certainly no Gerrard!

I really do wonder what could have been if not for his injury against Chelsea in 2011. Best DM in the league at the time by far.

Not only on the pitch but off it too- always seemed to have helped the younger kids settle so well. He encouraged Suarez to stay for another year and is best mates with Coutinho and Firmino- they'll suffer the loss more than we will.

Hope the move doesn't happen as I absolutely love the lad, but can't blame him if he wants more football, he's earned it. Brilliant player and servant and will be sorely missed if he goes.

Cosgey, I think we have enough players in his position, no need for a replacement. Striker is the main concern.

Benteke seems likely of course, not sure who else I'd choose from who's available. Lacazette probably, but eds have said in the past no chance.

Good business by LFC.

Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and spend wisely. I'm pretty happy with the window so far, let's hope it continues.

I'll eventually be glad to see him gone, but eds do you think on a footballing side he will improve at City? Always thought LFC would be the best place for his development.

A shame really, there was so much hype about the lad when he got into the first team. YNWA.

irishred

{Ed001's Note - I think it is a mistake for his development, he will be given far too much freedom, when he needs to be brought down to earth and grow up.}

He will be a class act learning from the best ie. Iniesta and Messi. If he learns only a fraction of what they can teach he will be a legend.

A shame he didn't want to stay and of course wish he ended things better but he wanted the move so we move on as always. YNWA.

Fully agree about Coutinho's work rate. If he could take a lesson from Firmino in that sense imagine how good he'd be!

Bit of a shift away from central midfielders ed, what did you make of thierry Henry? Always thought he made everything look simple.

irishred

{Ed001's Note - brilliant player once he moved up front, but he was not a good winger. One of the best centre forwards of all time.}

Ed001, you weren't a fan of Kaka? Always thought he was top class, great to watch and in his peak when he played against us in both 2005 and 2007. Went downhill from there for him though.

irishred

{Ed001's Note - he was nothing special, he had pace and strength, but he was typical of that era of Brazilians, lacking in that real flair, instead opting for physicality.}
