I love Hendos energy, but he's not playing as good this season that's clear to see. Has the ox just took his position for now?

1.) 24 Oct 2019 10:42:36
Ffs 17 wins on the trot and 1 draw and the knives are out, hendo and gini will start against spurs,

2.) 24 Oct 2019 12:11:41
without the knives but don't you think Oxlade earned a starting spot?

3.) 24 Oct 2019 12:19:18
I don't think so yet FC8. It's reassuring to know that Ox and Keita can step in though. It really depends on the opposition and the matchups whether or not Keita or Ox will supplant Gini or Hendo.

4.) 24 Oct 2019 12:41:26
Ox might not be at a stage yet where he can handle a prolonged run of games. He has still only had about 180 minutes or so of competitive football since his injury.

Would much rather see him managed well in terms of recovery and hopefully be a big asset come the turn of the year.

Im sure the medical department already have their plan of how much game time he can take.

He definately does add something different than other players in the current squad. Needs a lot more games under his belt to be fully up to speed though.

Cant see him starting against spurs but id say a start in the arsenal game is nailed on.

5.) 24 Oct 2019 13:11:16
if we want to take another step this year and achieve the ultimate, it's essential that both oxlade-chamberlain and keita step their games up, become regulars in the midfield rotation, and provide a technical advantage that other players can't provide. we'll encounter a lot of different looks and strategies throughout the year, and it's important to have guys in the side that give us versatility to not only answer those challenges, but overcome them and throw things back at other squads that they themselves don't have answers for. ox having a strong game shouldn't lead to the suggestion that it's time for a "slumping" henderson to be replaced by him. we need them both, just as we need all of these guys, to continue to be part of a strong unit that is very difficult to be beaten by any side in the world on any day of the year.

6.) 24 Oct 2019 13:32:59
but how do you keep people happy on the bench if they just stay on the bench even if they perform? also i fail to see how 2 games in a row is a "prolonged run of games"

doing good coming off the bench or when playing with a rotated starting 11 should be rewarded with more gametime imo.

I like both Gini and Hendo but i really hope Ox and Keita gets more real chances, not just when rotating and 10minutes in the end of matches.

7.) 24 Oct 2019 14:02:42
> but how do you keep people happy on the bench if they just stay on the bench even if they perform?
Because they know its a long season with a lot of games and they will have their chances . Klopp decides which player to use pending fitness and opposition, yesterday Ox did very well because Genk gave him the time and space he needs, which is not easy in the PL, also if you watch back, he hardly pressed, which is needed for our game in the premier league.

8.) 24 Oct 2019 17:19:25
I hope starts to really kick on, he’s the one that gets into positions and receive the ball in offensive areas that are tight. This give us so much more from an attacking perspective.

9.) 24 Oct 2019 18:01:00
Ox that is 😂😂.

10.) 24 Oct 2019 18:44:57
It's not that black and white though. Ox opens our midfield up by being so offensive, whereas Hendo doesn't open up the opposition. catch 22 formation?

11.) 24 Oct 2019 19:04:32
We really have a fascinating fetish for wanting to drop Hendo out of the team. Apart possibly from Matip, I don't think any player's position is talked about as much. Yet he keeps coming back and justifying his place.

That said, Ox deserves to start against Spurs, imo. And I think Klopp subbed him because he wants that option. Had he no intention of starting him against Spurs, he'd have probably left him on for the full 90 against Genk.

I wouldn't start Ox and Keita though, I think it'll leave us too open. Given that Fabinho should be an automatic choice at DM, there's then a space for Gini, Milner or Hendo even with Ox starting. I see merits in picking any of them.

12.) 24 Oct 2019 20:23:50
I think there's an equal argument for Keita to start as much as Ox, if you are going to base an opinion on just the last game against Genk. Keita had more passes, more dribbles and more tackles than anyone else. Yes sure, it was only Genk, but there you go. How can you successfully argue that Ox would be great against Spurs but Keita wouldn't be?

The wise thing is to do what Klopp is doing. Stick with the players that got you to the top level you are at. Tinker from time to time according to the kind of team and style being faced, and make timely substitutions during games to gain what someone on the bench can offer.

I really couldn't care a damn what a player thinks if he's not starting and sitting on the bench. It's a 25 player squad that attacks each game, not just the 11 on the field. The team, and the wins, come first.

13.) 24 Oct 2019 21:15:29
The problem is playing two holding midfielders against the back 5 / 'low-block'. I would have been happy v Utd if the shackles were off Hendo to bomb forward, late runs into the box etc to give an extra attacking option. But he doesn't seem to do that. There's no need to be so defensive against teams that defend. Fabinho can hold his own.

14.) 25 Oct 2019 02:25:00
It's about finding the right balance with consideration for the oppositions style too. Keita and ox certainly add that offensive aggression but they also left our midfield open and back 4 exposed at times. I think gini and fabinho start but I also think much might depend on wether Trent can play or if Gomez slots in to RB. I think klopp would want Henderson on that side if Trent was involved but if Gomez starts maybe OX or keita could get picked as Gomez wouldn't need as much protection with his recovery pace and lack of instruction to get too advanced as Trent does.

Either way it's great to see the depth and variation of klopps midfield options, having 2 or 3 midfielders with the ability to be starters available on the bench can let klopp change the approach hugely if needed in a game.

15.) 25 Oct 2019 10:08:35
Ox will be good for some games, hendo for others . . .

16.) 27 Oct 2019 12:43:46
The ox has definitely given klopp something to think about. It was only genk though. I'd bring him on at 60 minutes. Open the tired defence.

29 Dec 2018 21:30:39
5:1 against Arsenal. Do you know what's scary. We actually played at about 60%. We've got another gear or two!

1.) 30 Dec 2018 00:07:46
We got a bit of luck, the bobbled goal came at the perfect time, and very soft pen on Lovren. But if I was an arsenal fan I’d be furious. Koscienly has stolen a living for years now, can’t believe they still play him! He makes Matip look keen. He walks back to the goal after getting beaten. Mustafi is just as bad, I swear he went off ‘injured’ the last time we put a few past them. If it gets tough he gets going. They are awful at the back, other teams just know they can have a go and put them under pressure and they can get something. Hopefully people know see that with city!

2.) 30 Dec 2018 03:33:17
Would ya stop firmane, there was only one team that was going to win when arsenal went one up. Unbelievable performance.

3.) 30 Dec 2018 04:01:09
What a day lads. city next.

Virgil Van Dijk back in training today. That’s all.

1.) 12 Jul 2021 10:41:26
A bit quiet on here today (Euros apart) so try testing yourselves with this question, without using Google.

When Virgil started his first ever league game outside of his native Netherlands, who was the Asian born manager in the opposition dug-out?

2.) 12 Jul 2021 10:47:32
Shinsuke nakamura.

3.) 12 Jul 2021 11:00:01
JACKMYTTON - Terry Butcher? Born in Singapore.

4.) 12 Jul 2021 11:14:50

5.) 12 Jul 2021 11:42:57
Lowe, absolutely correct, digital hamper on its way!

18 Apr 2021 16:40:25
A lot of new noise of the Breakaway League today. Liverpool are one of the clubs, could’ve sworn on here we apparently wasn’t in the conversation.
I was usually against the idea, but I feel like with football slowly dying due to corona, VAR and all this money going around. A change might be needed somewhere.
The Question is will it revive the sport, or kill it off?

{Ed002's Note - Rather than having a dig at me perhaps you should of read the posts there have been - this is not coming from the "elite" clubs (which don't include Liverpool) but from one of the other options, all of which have been explained. Cretin.}

1.) 18 Apr 2021 16:52:25
I’ve never read that LFC where not in for the break away league!

All I’ve read is was Ed told us years ago that this was been talked about so fair play 02 ( I told some mates about it long ago and I robbed your credit 🤣)

I was reading the new champs league format 20024 my god it’s absolute tripe!

{Ed002's Note - It is the "elite" group of sides that does not include Liverpool. Liverpool has been involved in other discussions about options available (and even proposed project Big Foot with Manchester United a little over a year ago).

2.) 18 Apr 2021 17:32:54
I don't understand what you mean by elite clubs!
From what i've read, liverpool, man utd, barca, real, and juve.
Are they not "elite" clubs?

3.) 18 Apr 2021 17:23:42
Is the any other sports that follow a similar proposed structure Ed? I’m thinking of how basketball works in the US?

{Ed002's Note - American professional sport sits above college sports which are all but professional in many cases. Other sperts and leagues need occasional restructuring to address issues - professional football in England has too many professional sides hence you get clubs going bust. The timing with the pandemic is not good and the "elite" sides have been requested to meet this week by one club and will do so once they fully understand the UEFA changes to the plans already agreed for 2024 (which look pretty simple). Some clubs want an automatic entry to the Champions League and other benefits. UEFA will want to talk with the "elite" sides, and perhaps FIFA will aswell, so we will see what happens there - obviously some of the clubs are the same.}

4.) 18 Apr 2021 17:40:12
Its a name given to the clubs involved, maybe even by themselves. Clearly it doesn't involve all the "elite" clubs tho. I wouldn't get hung up in the title they give themselves.

5.) 18 Apr 2021 17:58:11
The impression I get is they want an NFL/ NBA system wherein no risk of relegation or missing out on European football. Quite sad really and shows where football is at these days. To be fair Ed02 has kept up posted on this for years.

{Ed002's Note - That is only the real desire of a couple of clubs - perhaps three. The "elite" sides will meet this week which will be interesting - but firts they will want to know the final details from UEFA and how the vote goes tomorrow. Being thrown out of domestic leagues will be used as leverage by the authorities to stop any small solutions like the latest being proposed going ahead.Their big concern is the "elite" clubs coming up with a grand plan - and I think they will now be open to wider discussions but certainly not with the full ECA.}

6.) 18 Apr 2021 18:17:34
I see. It all sounds quite messy. Thanks for your time Ed.

20 Feb 2021 20:50:59
Would love Irish Rover and Something Red to elaborate a month on after me telling them the players have tools down to come out and defend this 🤦🏻‍♂️ Since then we’ve lost 4 games on the bounce at home, first time since the 1920’s.
it’s not form, it’s not defenders, it’s not Var, it’s not your Nan wearing a blue pinny. It’s a lack of effort, desire and the fact the players have Chucked the league.

1.) 20 Feb 2021 21:21:49
What's the point of calling out people with "i told you so"? You want a medal or something and where do you want it pinned? Geez. We're supposed to be a community of Liverpool football club supporters.

2.) 20 Feb 2021 21:23:01
Simple. To suggest a team has "downed tools" would mean that you think that they are purposely losing games. Where as I believe there are numerous reasons for the team not winning but to suggest that they aren't trying is just disrespectful to a team that have gave us more success than any other in 30 years.

Don't think for one second if you call me out I won't respond but unlike your good self I won't get out of my pram and throw out suggestions that a pre pubescent child would use.

Hope this answers you question kiddo 😉.

3.) 20 Feb 2021 21:25:46
Was it a lack of effort we missed those chances?

Or a lack of effort that they let a sloppy goal go in after a few minutes?

Or a lack of effort that Trent had the audacity to get kicked in the head?

Or a lack of effort because once again a team comes to anfield and defends really well and we get punished with a makeshift defence for failing to take our chances?

Give it a rest for gods sakes.

4.) 20 Feb 2021 21:33:23
Attention seeker alert, attention seeker alert! Look at me, I was right.

As Something Red said saying the players downed tools is to imply they are losing on purpose, the reality is that they are just playing badly.

5.) 20 Feb 2021 21:35:38
I still think the issue, besides the injuries, is the fact that both Henderson and Fabinho have been playing out of position. I get Fab but not Henderson. Phillips should have been playing the whole time with Fab and should have kept Henderson in midfield. Once the two were bought in January, pair one of them with Phillips. with Henderson and Fab, but especially Henderson out of the midfield, the team has not been the same. That one simple change with Phillips starting and Henderson staying in midfield, in my opinion, could have made a HUGE difference in where we are right now.

6.) 20 Feb 2021 21:38:16
After the success of winning the league last season, have we deluded ourselves. I have read on various media outlets that " we are the best team the PL has ever seen" " that we are starting a dynesty". Allison is the best keeper in the world, our full backs are the best in the world, our front 3 are the best in the world. If that is the case, why are we in the sh**e, that we are in now. I don't know how we are going to turn it around, I just hope Klopp does, but I won't hold my breath, because up to now, he hasn't done anything to change the system.

7.) 20 Feb 2021 21:38:44
Wow! You were absolutely right LFC8 mate! Our players have downed tools! They must a bunch of flaky quitters and Klopp clearly has no control of the dressing room! You know what that means?! Time to throw the whole lot out! Bye bye best Liverpool side in 30 years. 2 poor months undoes the last 2 years.

Is that what you need to read?

It's illogical within itself. If the players downed tools over no center back signing, why haven't they picked them back up now that Kabak and Davies are here? Riddle me that, Batman. How many center backs have to be at the club for them to actually play? 10? 12?

Either way, I'm glad your happy the team are performing poorly so that you get to be right on the internet.

8.) 20 Feb 2021 21:57:10
Last thing we need is to argue amongst each other. Not sure what the problem is between you two but I agree on Irish Rover’s opinion on “downing tools”, which is silly to levy at the team. Form, confidence, injuries and squad depth are the reasons for the situation we find ourselves in. Do you honestly think the players are simply not playing to win given the fact we have people like Hendo and Milner in the squad? Not to mention a local lad like Trent and captains for their national team like Robertson. Again, everyone is entitled to their opinion whether it’s positive or not so but accusations against a team downing tools is silly. Did you forget this is the team that got to the Championships League Finals and lost. But instead of burying their heads in the sand went onto win it the following year. The same team that ran Man City close with the highest points tally for second place. Instead of burying their heads in the sand went on the following year to win the League.

9.) 20 Feb 2021 22:13:37
Spot on Stone - I’ve been saying this all along. Biggest mistake was not investing in another quality CB in the summer.

10.) 20 Feb 2021 22:21:27
Ey up 🎣 🎣 chin up boys fake season anyway, the players know this that’s why they’ve written off the league.
At least you can say the ‘blip’ is over when we sneak a win off Sheffield United next.

11.) 20 Feb 2021 22:24:43
The pen is irrelevant, we are losing that game anyway. We need a masssssss clear out this summer. Even if we won every game until the end of the season, this run of form from some of the players during this period is unforgivable.
- Bobby is the pinnacle of the poor form, utterly dyer.
- Gini aka the ghost doesn’t know a forward pass.
- Curtis is neat and tidy. Can’t score a goal and can’t play a through ball.
- Ox - not good enough
- Naby - not good enough
- Thiago - bad run of form
- Trent and Robbo are so wasteful at the moment in the the goal mouth
Shaqiri - not good enough.

12.) 20 Feb 2021 22:32:42
I think teams also smell blood in the water now, they aren't scared to have a go.

But there seems to be something up with our front three, they just aren't putting the chances away that they should.

Be keen to hear any Eds views on this point?

06 Feb 2021 17:22:35
Great post MK. Reality sinking in.
My question to all reds. Say we finish 4th this season, respectable finish considering the injuries, and Man City walk the league etc.
How would you feel about the so called promise of Liverpool parading THIS years title after the C.V. is over?
Not for me I don’t think.

1.) 06 Feb 2021 17:36:00
Are we supporting city tomorrow then so Utd don’t get the title?

2.) 06 Feb 2021 17:37:14
Cheers. I certainly wouldn't want them to parade the title after this season. It wouldn't be the same anyway. We can parade it in the summer of 2022 instead 👀.

3.) 06 Feb 2021 17:42:56
No not for me either.

4.) 06 Feb 2021 18:08:14
Too far gone for me. Which is unfortunate considering we waited 30 years, but it is what it is. More importantly, the clubs name will be on the trophy as Champions, that's what really matters.

5.) 06 Feb 2021 21:40:20
War Machine - I would say the younger generation on here would look at your post with disbelief.

As someone who is nearly 50, supporting the reds home and away for 40 years, I’d have to consider your comment.

United away has always been a buzz in my eyes, police escort in the 80’s, kept behind in their ground for an hour after the match in more recent times. To some though, their vile chanting is a real put off.

The hatred between the two cities runs deeper than football, certainly worth a google.

6.) 06 Feb 2021 22:02:02
I’m 3 years off you Drogie and grew up nowhere near Liverpool (in Cornwall) with Yorkshire parents and hardly any football on tv but for some reason Liverpool fc was and is in my blood since I can remember but also so is the sheer hatred of Utd grown at exactly the same time and not because of a canal. No idea why. I cried like a baby when whelan curled, listening to extra time on the radio. Strange world.

7.) 06 Feb 2021 22:04:00
Just seen the Everton 90+5. Now i can support my own team!

05 Jan 2021 21:24:49
There should’ve been a senior CB through the door January 1st. A loan, anything!
The team crawled to January and now there’s no signing in the window it’s collapsed.
The VVD injury obviously caused this, but we were actually playing well up until Klopps moaning about 5 subs, Chris Wilder and then him getting murdered In an interview by a BT interviewer. Topped off by playing Jota (the only striker who actually has a shot of late) in a nothing game in the UCL and getting injured.
He gets enough credit and rightly so, he’s the best manager in the world, but the slump is also down to Jurgan I’m afraid.

1.) 05 Jan 2021 21:41:18
Can I make a case to bring back the thumbs down button on the back of this post?

2.) 05 Jan 2021 22:12:05
Regarding the Jota injury, he got Injured coming on for the last 15 minutes. He could quite easily have got Injured in the first 15 minutes of the next game. What are you saying, don't bring subs on in case they get injured.

3.) 05 Jan 2021 22:39:46
Jota needed game time in played 30mins in about 3 weeks. You would probably be the first to say, Jota looks rusty he should have played in the game to regain sharpness.

4.) 05 Jan 2021 23:56:38
Jota played 87 mins of the game he got injured in and leading up to that game in the previous 4 games to it he played 2 lots of 90 mins (man c and Brighton) and 1 game for 89 mins (Leicester) and 17 mins (wolves) .

Start of the decline this. It’s Souness esc. We’ve actually seen it before. Ageing squad, reluctant to spend, United capitalising on their big money whilst everyone else struggles financially. Luckily we have Klopp because soon we won’t and Stevie will be the one it crumbles around trying to replace a team full of 33 year olds with no money.

Unless it meant getting Mbappe or Haaland for their youth and goals, the sale of Salah is just madness. It would take Liverpool from Prem/ ULC contenders, to 4th - 6th.
But we did sell Suarez and replace him with Lambert so it can happen at our club 😂.

Let’s be perfectly honest now, Sir Bob wouldn’t have Jordan Henderson in his Squad let alone his captain.
Infact I reckon he’d get rid of the majority of the squad bar about 3 players. And then probably win his 4th European Cup.
