An £ 845m release clause for an 18 year old. The “game” is out of control.

Let’s get Billy signed up on a 10 year contract and then hope someone triggers his release clause in the summer eh? We could buy Harland and M’Bappe and Kessie and Bissouma and lots of others too.

Courtois wasn’t far wrong eh?

1.) 14 Oct 2021 23:33:02
Come on WDW you know this is almost meaningless. It may as well say I have a £1 Billion release clause.
Well according to my Mrs I'm a treasure. :D.

2.) 14 Oct 2021 23:58:24
Spanish teams add preventive buyout clauses all the time. Don't read too much into it. It's just to deter PSG, Man City and Newcastle.

3.) 15 Oct 2021 00:36:36
Agree with you both - but to put it into context I am old enough to remember jimmy Hill and the players Union fighting for the £100 wage and Trevor Francis being the first £1m footballer - once you fo something like this it let's the genie out of the bottle.

{Ed0666's Note - you’ll probably be around to see the first 1 million pound a week salaried footballer (excluding bonuses, endorsements, etc etc)

4.) 15 Oct 2021 02:19:54
I’m still hoping it will be me mate 😁😁👍👍.

5.) 15 Oct 2021 03:02:00
Clubs in Spain are required to add release clauses into the players' contracts. Such an enormous number is just a way of saying 'not for sale'. After all, if it's not quite high enough, you might get another Neymar situation.

6.) 15 Oct 2021 07:47:35
I think they're casting an eye to Newcastle and hoping they'd bite and wipe Barca's debt with one transfer.

7.) 15 Oct 2021 08:35:35
Its a joke it really is I wish the fans around the world would unite in protest of this and demand a wage cap across all the top leagues!

04 Oct 2021 01:57:16
Nice to see Bernardo put on his a**e as Mo went by him to score. The more times Insee the goal the more it makes me smile.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 04 Oct 2021 05:34:19
The guy who ran rings around us all game? The guy who extracted the urine going on a mazy round half our team and setting up Foden? He’s an arse no doubt but a wonderful footballer and I wish we had that type of player. Maybe Harvey one day.

2.) 04 Oct 2021 08:58:07
Yeah - you are right Jezza but that doesn’t stop me laughing at him.

As an aside I would love a player with his skill but I wouldn’t want him if he was offered to us for free and there was a guarantee that City would pay his wages for as long as he played for us.

3.) 04 Oct 2021 10:14:37
Jezza, two things can be correct at the same time.

4.) 04 Oct 2021 11:48:48
Absolutely agree WDW. Was great to see that smug git getting put on his arse and made a mug of. If that goal isn’t evidence that Salah is truly world class then I don’t know what is.

28 Sep 2021 22:51:48
Not directly related to Liverpool but I have to say the ‘house full’ sign would ‘probably’ be up at Anfield if Mbappe, Messi and Neymar came to play. Still 37,350 is a top effort from the City fans eh?

West Derby Wanderer

{Ed0666's Note - you can’t blame people for not paying money to watch football in the middle of a pandemic mate.

1.) 29 Sep 2021 01:02:34
I’m confused, the game was played in Paris, what does that have to do with City fans?

2.) 29 Sep 2021 01:27:39
The game was in Paris, if 37,350 City fans turned up to thst fair ****s to them🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️.

3.) 29 Sep 2021 00:55:39
In fairness it’s hard for their “season ticket holders” to fly over at short notice from Abu Dhabi Ed.

{Ed0666's Note - not really they all have private Lear jets mate. Abu Dhabi to Manchester in about 28 minutes. Why they don’t just distribute spare tickets to the inner cities and the local school kids I don’t know? It would be great for community relations and optics

4.) 29 Sep 2021 02:18:49
Yes, hands up - apologies, in the excitement of ours, Sheriff Tiraspol (henceforward my second team - great name) and. City’s loss I got carried away with the venue.

I am waiting out ‘More haste, less speed’ 200 times as a punishment 🙁.

5.) 29 Sep 2021 04:12:49
And learning to check for autocorrect updates to my typing too - ‘waiting out’ being ‘writing out’ as an example 😡.

6.) 29 Sep 2021 08:07:17
I'll have a pint of what you had WDW.

7.) 29 Sep 2021 10:40:38
To be fair Flash it was very early in the morning out here in Oz and I hadn’t had my first coffee 😉.

18 Sep 2021 01:35:04
Ok, so onto the match.

I just read on the BBC match preview that our current run - 11 wins and 3 draws - is the best run of any team in the top 4 divisions and that we are the first team since Chelsea in 2009 to have a hundred shots at goal in the first four matches of a season.

We’ve also only conceded one league goal in 6 hours of play this season, so what do people think? I’m going fo us by 3, either 3 - 0 or 4 - 1.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 18 Sep 2021 03:08:05
I think it all depends on whether Naby Keita is playing or not. (You adore reading about him, LOL) . 😂.

2.) 18 Sep 2021 03:10:39
3-0 or 3-1 Salah anytime which are 10/ 1 and 16/ 1 respectively.

3.) 18 Sep 2021 04:57:38
Mane will score! it's crystal palace so!

4.) 18 Sep 2021 05:03:28
Nice one ArAy 👍.

5.) 18 Sep 2021 07:37:46
Just win.

6.) 18 Sep 2021 07:39:18
Palace away it’s goals galore. Palace at home not so much. I’m going for a 1-0 or 2-0 win.

7.) 18 Sep 2021 08:13:00
4-0 Liverpool. Goalscorers? Salah, Mane, Jota and VVD. I know Palace had a great result last week against Spurs but I'm still of the thinking that Vieira is a wooden one 😃 and this result will one of his many on the way to being the first PL manager to get the sack this season.

I'm never wrong with these predictions, trust me, after all I was right about Konate starting before Gomez on Wednesday night 🤔😏.

8.) 18 Sep 2021 10:05:58
Don’t forget Palace have had all week to prepare, while we had midweek vs Milan.

I just hope we don’t drop the tempo and give them a chance to get in the game.
If we start like we did on Wednesday we should blow them away.

We will probably need to go a couple of goals clear - don’t fancy 1-0 up with a few mins to go as they do have dangerous forward players.
I’ll be interested to see Odsonne Edouard.

Going 2-0, VvD to score on his 100th app and Mane to score his 100th goal for LFC (all comps) - he has scored in the last 8 matches vs Palace.

9.) 18 Sep 2021 10:09:57
4-0. Two for Mane, one for Jota and one for Salah. Palace to try and naively play out from the back and get mauled.

10.) 18 Sep 2021 10:21:15
3-1 to us. Mane 2 and Salah.

11.) 18 Sep 2021 11:07:32
I’m always nervous when we play Palace.
I haven’t watched them this season but I understand that Vieira is looking to play progressive football, which may suit us more.
Any Liverpool win is ok by me lol.

12.) 18 Sep 2021 13:38:15
I’d take a regulation 2-0 win.

17 Sep 2021 08:58:05
Not related to Liverpool specifically but it made me laugh.

After 38,000 turned up for the midweek CL match (capacity 55,000) Pep encouraged more fans to show up for the PL match at the weekend. The secretary of the official fan club told him to ‘stick to coaching’. He then said that Pep didn’t understand the difficulties the fans faced……. presumably fair weather fans don’t show up if it’s raining or if it’s dark.

From a Liverpool perspective - CL at Anfield on a Wednesday night is unmissable. Guess that’s the difference between fans and glory hunters.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 17 Sep 2021 11:08:33
Might be an unpopular opinion but I think it’s quite refreshing that City can’t fill their stadium.

City over the last 5-8 years are arguably England’s most successful side domestically and if they were filling the stadium then it’s could ge argued that its full of glory supporters. The crowd they have attending games is probably still a high percentage of fans that followed them whilst at their lowest point of recent times in League one. If anything those fans have shown the true meaning of being a loving, dedicated football fan who will follow their club through thick and thin.

Being a fan of Liverpool etc comes with the massive downfall of its extremely hard to watch the team live in the stadium but that’s not just down to the fact we have a huge fan base. It’s because sometimes it’s the richest supporters who get to go to games because it’s like an auction for the wealthy to getting tickets these days. And that’s not a dig at the weekly season ticket goers who go as they are our 12th man.

{Ed014's Note - I’m with you JK, they regularly get in excess of 50,000 for home games and they’ll be genuine guys as opposed to all the fakers across the road from all parts of the country.

2.) 17 Sep 2021 11:22:06
It does make me wonder why they don’t fill there stadium. I mean they have got some of the best players in the world and there game play is not exactly boring. Maybe they should have signed CR 😂.

3.) 17 Sep 2021 11:25:31
you can buy a man city ticket for £12 for the home game against southampton so critise the fans all you like they are doing something right at Anfield its impossible in 99% of games to get a ticket and more chance of winning the lottery than getting an away ticket. only chance you have is the league cup opening rounds or a bottom half prem game. at least you can get in the game no bother and the prices are cheap! .

4.) 17 Sep 2021 11:26:10
I agree it's the wealthy fans who get to go to games. You can hardly move for Lamborghinis around Anfield on a match night.

5.) 17 Sep 2021 11:31:59
I remember when City were in Division 3 and getting crowds of 25,000 plus not that long ago and there’s no doubt that they have a loyal following of hard core genuine fans.

That said, I think the idea of the secretary of the official supporters club telling the manager of the club to mind his own business is just funny

I also think you could equally say that if they filled their ground all the time they might be attracting new fans by playing exciting football that is good to watch. I know which on I think it is.

6.) 17 Sep 2021 11:38:34
Interesting point and i do kind of get what your saying. I feel as though this new ticketing system is a step in the right direction for the club in allowing more local non-season ticket holders to go the game. Imo there should be a very substantial proportion of tickets reserved for L postcode holders only, which they are now doing in some capacity (although i don’t know what proportion of tickets are held in this manner nor do i know how long they have been doing it for exactly) . There should also be more deals and schemes to get younger fans into the ground, something Everton do very well. Our global fanbase are incredible and the dedication they have is something to behold, but at some point you do have to protect the integrity of Anfield and make sure the experience is accessible for all. The old-school novelty of just deciding whether you want to go to the game on any given week should not be a thing of the past, and there should be more avenues of getting a ticket beyond either having/ knowing a season ticket holder or spending insane money on a ticket tout or a holiday package. People who cannot afford a season ticket and instead just fancy going the game occasionally should not be locked out of that opportunity. It shouldn’t be any more difficult than getting tickets for a gig.

7.) 17 Sep 2021 12:05:42
im sorry but the amount of range rovers and similar big suvs and various other expensive cars parked using visitor passes around anfield is massive. which are all at a similar value to a lamborghini. It is becoming more upper class and that's followed by an older fan base because no one wants to give up a season ticket, iv been on list for 26 years for one. and i know many people my age who use their grandads or other people they know ticket to get into ground even now the phone system is in. the whole systme needs a revamp so people can go to games without waiting a year between them.

8.) 17 Sep 2021 12:07:57
Great post Aw 👏.

Right I’m off to put some petrol in my Lamborghini.

9.) 17 Sep 2021 12:34:28
It's going to cost me and 2 kids £300 to get to a match this season, i'm going to pay it but it's the hardest ground to get tickets for by a mile.

10.) 17 Sep 2021 14:01:24
Lancaster I can’t even get 1 ticket how did you get 3 😱.

11.) 17 Sep 2021 15:19:28
Hi Nath

You must walk down different streets from the ones I use to get to and from Sandhills but if you can get even the cheapest Lamborghini Urus for the price of the most expensive Range Rover Sport let me know and I'll be down there like a shot.

12.) 17 Sep 2021 16:35:41
I won’t deny that a lot of the season ticket holders i know are very well off and i do get what you mean, but to use the type of cars you see in the car parks as any kind of barometer is a bit silly. They must only have like what, between 1000-2000 spaces there if that? Hardly representative of the demographic in a 55,000 capacity stadium is it.

13.) 17 Sep 2021 17:16:03
Gents my earlier comment about tickets going to the wealthy was at no way aimed at the season ticket holders or fans that attend regularly.

I try and get hold of tickets as often as I can which in this day and age is lucky to be anything between 1-4 games a season. However I could actually get tickets for all home games of o was able to afford to pay minimum of 4 times what their face value is and sometimes even 10 times depending on who the opposition is. The year we won the league I think we possibly had Wolves last game of the season and home tickets were being touted for 3k a pop

I spend around £1400 a year on the sport’s channels and LFC merchandise to enable me to follow the reds and feel like I’m doing my bit so if I could get tickets at face value I would snap the hand off.

Football was once owned by the fans but now it’s very much owned by the corporate big wigs.

14.) 17 Sep 2021 17:31:28
Re-etihad discussion. The only reason it fills up for prem games is because of the other teams supporters filling up the home end. You can literally get home tickets on their website. Even wowcha. Possibly Just Eat.
Which is why champions league do not fill up, the European away travel not as easy but some still do.

15.) 17 Sep 2021 19:44:17
Not many flights from China at the moment so City can't fill their stadium.

There were 5 days between the Porto and City gamesTAA is the established RB and given h3 is just about turning 23 he is going to be first choice for a while.

We have Bradley, Gomez, Konate, van den Berg (playing RB / RWB on loan at Preston) and we also have Fabs who can cover the spot. Given we have TAA and Milner isn’t retired and Neco hasn’t gone we have basically 8 players to fill or cover the one spot.

Anyway, I rather suspect the post-Christmas airwaves will be full of the magical word Bissouma once the transfer window opens …….

Sorry to labour the point but what more do people expect from the team? We are a point of first in the PL and the only team that hasn’t lost and having played the teams in 1st and 3rd place, we’ve won 3 out of 3 in the CL and won our League Cup game. In what way is the TEAM not doing well when compared to every other team in Europe?

It all depends what measurement you use when deciding if players, or the team, play well or not.

We were deemed to be unbeatable when we beat Watford but didn’t really account for Watford being a team woefully out of their depth.

We are now deemed as terrible because we conceded two goals against the Spanish Champions at their home ground where they are very happy to rake on any and all.

Games aren’t arranged for Liverpool to just turn up and win. Imagining that we would turn up, stroll to a 3 or 4 - 0 win and carry on our perfect way shows a lack of respect for, and knowledge of, the opposition and the game in general.

Our players are human, they are not perfect and they make mistakes from time to time (unlike me and a few other posters) . A lot of it is about being able to cope under pressure, which as a team, we did. We weren’t poor because we lack skills, technique or temperament as a group we made mistakes because we were playing against one of the toughest teams we will meet this season who put us under pressure.

There is nothing wrong with criticism and putting forward an opinion that player (s) didn’t play well but it should be supported by some sort of evidence as to why the criticism is levelled …. X is dirt is just pathetic.

By m6 reckoning that’s 21 games unbeaten in all competitions.

3 out of 3 wins in the CL ‘group of death’ and beating the Spanish Champions who, going into the match had lost only one of their last 40 games at home. I think you need a bit of perspective Zippy.

Once again, as a fan, I thought it was great to watch - exciting, controversial, great attacking, dodgy defending and we won again. If you can’t enjoy or be entertained by games like that then you really are watching the wrong sport.

Bring on United. Like I said, I hope their back four are all fit. I’m not fussed about this getting rid of Ole - whoever they bring in will take at least a couple of years to put a team together. It will be a while before either Ronaldo decides he’s had enough it the Glazer’s figure their pandering to the fans was another waste of money and get rid. Anyway, that’s their problem. Bring on the next match

Come on you Redmen.
