Eds, if you have the time can you provide a quick update on the likelihood of departures during the current window, please?

The press have made intermittent mention of Nat Phillips, Neco Williams and Big Div but it all seems a bit like rumours rather than anything concrete.

West Derby Wanderer

{Ed002's Note - It will be no different to that I previously explained.}

1.) 19 Jan 2022 08:32:04
You'd like to think poor Nat can get himself a move!

2.) 19 Jan 2022 01:30:46
Thanks for the response Ed - seems apart from Aston Villa and perhaps Newcastle there’s not a lot of activity.

3.) 19 Jan 2022 08:54:25
Burnley are going to need him for division 1, when 1/ 2 of their CB's leave.
With the toon buying Carlos, they are out, and no new word on West Ham .
Ed's say he's overpriced, but what else can be bought for 12/ 15m?

4.) 19 Jan 2022 09:33:46
Best option would be to loan for rest of season and then look to sell him in the summer.

5.) 19 Jan 2022 23:02:13
Isnt Nat still out injured with a broken cheekbone? In which case that could effect the likelihood of him leaving.

6.) 20 Jan 2022 04:26:58
Back in training according to Lijnders.

7.) 20 Jan 2022 12:18:08
I think Newcastle will come in at the end of the window and make a bid close to what we’re asking as all their other attempts are falling on their arse.

8.) 20 Jan 2022 14:07:08
Can’t you just put a Zoro mask on for a broken cheekbone and carry on playing?

A lot of ‘false positives’ eh?

“Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more” for those old enough to remember the sketch 😉😉.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 10 Jan 2022 01:18:02
"Well, he's probably pining for the fjords".

2.) 10 Jan 2022 08:42:29
"fasle positives"?

is this how we're describing liverpool fans these days?

:D :D :D :D.

3.) 10 Jan 2022 13:18:14
Klopp knows all the tricks, dramatic irony, metaphor, pathos, puns, parody, litotes and. satire. He was vicious. Like a modern day Doug Piranha.

4.) 10 Jan 2022 14:03:07
Yeah, WDW. I thought that was a bit fishy too. You sly dog, Norbert.

5.) 10 Jan 2022 21:11:22
Klopp got tested 13 times and just stuck various players name each time. Simple.

6.) 10 Jan 2022 21:55:25
A lot of noise asking for this to be investigated hopefully nothing dodgy went on otherwise we could be in for some serious punishment.

7.) 11 Jan 2022 00:41:07
Given statistically it’s about 3 false positives in 10,000 tests, it does look a bit off.

8.) 11 Jan 2022 08:35:19
Doesn't happen often but Bath rugby had 18 false positive results previously.

9.) 11 Jan 2022 08:17:58
Agreed Marshy it just doesn't add up, Klopp should of just kept his mouth shut about the situation all other clubs have.

10.) 11 Jan 2022 11:05:28
Well said Kloppers - it’s a terrible day when the ‘leader’ of the club acts with integrity and tells the truth eh?

If we did nothing wrong then there is nothing to worry about.

11.) 11 Jan 2022 16:04:27
EFL says no investigation.

{Ed025's Note - courtesy of a brown envelope no doubt.. :)

07 Jan 2022 08:19:17
So, the Newcastle revolution which began with Eddie Howe gathers pace with the arrival of Kieran Trippier.

Still at £12m I’m surprised we weren’t in for him ……. 😉.

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 07 Jan 2022 08:26:38
This most be a joke?

2.) 07 Jan 2022 08:39:30
Lamborini, it's a joke, man. Chill out.

3.) 07 Jan 2022 09:36:01
Can’t believe even teams in the relegation zone are outspending us 🎣.

4.) 07 Jan 2022 10:09:24
Shock, horror, the shame of it all.
Even Villa got Coutinho on loan.

5.) 07 Jan 2022 10:47:37
Another one who got away.

6.) 07 Jan 2022 11:53:51
Can Newcastle take Naby off our hands too?

7.) 07 Jan 2022 12:09:18
Taurus it’s funny you mention that because if Villa sign Couts permanently it might start a transfer merry go round for Barcelona to then take Naby off our hands.

Apparently they are interested. That’s interested before anyone bawls their eyes out that I’m trying to sell our players 👍.

8.) 07 Jan 2022 12:29:26
Newcastle double deal for Ox and Naby in January. One can dream 😞.

9.) 07 Jan 2022 12:29:42
Oh please let it be true JK.

10.) 07 Jan 2022 12:36:09
Wonder if they will take Phillips too? He'd be a great signing for them, sell Williams and Origi too and FSG can have another profitable window.

11.) 07 Jan 2022 12:38:41
Larius to Barcelona or the geordies for a bargain £142m?

12.) 07 Jan 2022 12:45:24
Every club is praying Newcastle come and take all their deadwood 😂 there’s no chance anyone will want Naby Ox Milner Karius Adrian etc
I think on the other hand teams would take a risk on Gomez Phillips Origi. There’s top players in there somewhere. Those three sales might get us one decent player.

13.) 07 Jan 2022 13:41:48
Sell 3 to buy one. Really don't see that happening.

14.) 07 Jan 2022 14:01:47
Very harsh calling the lad's deadwood.

15.) 07 Jan 2022 14:13:55
Naby, Ox, Milner, Karius, Adrian, Phillips and Origi have all showed they can do it to a level to be in a Liverpool side, but for different reasons they cannot do it consistently hence why they are squad players.

In world football we are at the top rung of the ladder with plenty of others and there’s plenty of rungs below us that these players will be able to play at. The issue is they are used to being paid to be at the top table and if they are to move they would have to drop their demands as well as maybe us.

I think lots of clubs would be interested in them but only at the right price and salary.

16.) 07 Jan 2022 14:31:13
The ruthless Bob Paisley in me knows what’s best for Liverpool. And you can’t stand still lads. If you want to win everything and be the best you need to sell players and buy better ones.
You look on ed002 transfer round up for potential signings and 90% are all midfielders to replace Gini. Should’ve been done when we got rid. I honestly think if we sold Origi we wouldn’t replace him until summer or next jan 😂 it’s bonkers.

17.) 07 Jan 2022 14:55:01
Milly. dead wood? The lack of respect is absolutely unbelievable.

18.) 07 Jan 2022 15:03:36
LiverpoolFC8 I’ve heard from a very good source that If we sell Origi then we won’t buy a new forward as FSG have said we’ve got a very good youngster coming through the ranks in the under 9’s and it’ll save them money.

19.) 07 Jan 2022 15:04:33
But in your own words, that's just your beliefs.
And if we did sell Origi, how much time would we have to get a decent replacement for him? Who is currently available at a decent price?
All that gets forgotten about when the opportunity comes up to slag some aspect of the club.
Transfer window does strange things to some folks.

20.) 07 Jan 2022 15:36:53
I’m pretty sure Liverpool’s transfer team work 365 days a year. If we sold Origi or any player tomoz I doubt that would be the exact moment they then start looking at other players.
Transfer window sure does bring out peoples higj opinion of themselves.

21.) 07 Jan 2022 16:09:57
Missed out on an opportunity to have a right back that can actually defend. Shame.

{Ed0666's Note - whose 32 years of age has zero sell on value, will be on considerably high wages nae astronomical wages and will play a handful games a season. Real missed opportunity

22.) 07 Jan 2022 16:11:16

23.) 07 Jan 2022 17:18:54
Milly isn’t deadwood but at 36 I think this will be his last season, if we’re not careful we’re going to have at major overhaul in a season or two.

24.) 07 Jan 2022 19:39:42
Wassa, since when has Trippier been able to defend? Is this in a parallel universe?

25.) 07 Jan 2022 18:13:53
Oh Ed0666 did you really fall for that!

{Ed0666's Note - Oh Wassa I really did mate you cheeky monkey 😂

26.) 08 Jan 2022 01:06:38
I really like Keita. yes injured, inconsistent, but rekon he has started to show more of his qualities this season.

06 Jan 2022 21:48:53
Would I be correct in thinking that we haven’t applied for a postponement for the FA Cup match?

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 06 Jan 2022 23:36:28
WDW some media are reporting that all 20 premier league clubs have been told that FA cup fixtures will be fulfilled this weekend even if it means playing the kids. Not sure how true it is but City have an outbreak and their game is still on tomoz night as we speak.

2.) 07 Jan 2022 00:23:55
Thanks JK - I guess we must obey the economic imperative!

Ironic really though in our case as Shrewsbury weren’t our besties a couple of years back when we fielded a weaker team against them in the cup 😁.

3.) 07 Jan 2022 07:20:55
I'm guessing it will be due to rescheduling the games. If a game was postponed this week there would be little time to get it re-arranged before the next round. So rather then loads of teams forfeiting and then others getting byes. They've been told to field an 11 in any way possible.

To he honest, I wish that was the case from the beginning as at least you know where you stand. The league postponing some and not others as just made it a bit unclear for fans in my opinion. At the very least a list of unavailable players should be provided.

4.) 07 Jan 2022 08:14:05
Agree with your point about publishing information on who is unavailable WYred - people may not be so keen to pay PL entry prices to watch the U-18s.

5.) 07 Jan 2022 08:54:49
Think its a different rule set, Premier League and carabao cup you choose from a set list of 25 players? and the FA Cup is open to every player at the club? might be wrong happy to be corrected just something I read the other day.

08 Dec 2021 22:31:30
Just as an aside - great effort by Mo with 20 goals for the season by December 7th.

I know it was a different time and a different game in both cases but Rushie reaching 20 by November 8th in 1986 and Sir Roger by the last week in November in 1961 …. what superb efforts.

Like I say different times and different game but how much would they have been worth in their heyday at today’s prices? Worth saying both of them were excellent at putting a shift in defending too.

I’m lucky to have seen all 3 and plenty others like God and Kenny ….

West Derby Wanderer

{Ed0666's Note - Fu*k me you saw Sir Roger play? Jeez Louise you and Eds 025 must hang out and exchange WW1 stories.

1.) 09 Dec 2021 06:23:52
I remember seeing Rush play! What a player. Even got his autograph somewhere! Fowler was my personal favourite though, most natural goal scorer I've ever seen.

2.) 08 Dec 2021 22:59:34
Wasn't Ed025 at the battle of Hastings 🤭.

{Ed025's Note - i was harolds optician barry.. :)

3.) 09 Dec 2021 08:14:42
Hard to say with Sir Roger as I never saw him play, so movement, link-ups, passing, assisting, heading etc. would be areas I'm not sure about his ability in. On goals alone, I reckon he would commanded £100 million at the age of 25. Even when Bolton took him, he was still getting a goal every 3 games he played.
Rush probably the same kind of price.
Who knows though, if it was Barca, they would pay double that, then not play them for whatever reason, loan them out to say, a German team, who wpuldn't play them, then go back to Barcelona and fail miserably for whatever other reason.
You would like to think if theybwere playing today, we would not sell that level of player to another English side and that they would only want to play for us during their heyday, as they did in reality.

4.) 09 Dec 2021 08:28:17
I remember being in tears when Rush left. The same when Aldo left but even he admitted he wasn't as good as Rush. I think if not for injuries and maybe the side he played in Robbie would've been better than both but Salah? I don't think we've had the best player in the world before. Kenny, Barnes and maybe even Gerrard have come close but this fella is the best on the planet.

5.) 09 Dec 2021 09:21:47
Rush was special. A real talent with great ability and was a complete striker effective in the air and with both feet. A true natural for the CF position. If he played today, he would be just as good as he was back then, IMO.

6.) 09 Dec 2021 05:16:42
I’m the site’s grumpy old man Ed 😁.

{Ed0666's Note - Grumpy? You got nothing on Eds 001 mate!

25 Nov 2021 06:07:20
“If you are in our squad, you are a good football player” Jurgen Klopp.

Absolutely love the man - how good must the young lads, like Neco feel?

West Derby Wanderer

1.) 25 Nov 2021 08:06:35
Klopp does not give out flowers to those he thinks have not earned it. If you play? You have gotten that chance in merit. Oh, and Neco was brilliant last night.

2.) 25 Nov 2021 08:52:43
You think Neco was brilliant last night. I can't agree. I thought the whole defence was ropey to say the least (bar Allison) .

3.) 25 Nov 2021 09:54:17
Except Neco was available for a sale and there weren't any takers. In fact, many were up for sale. don't take anything that he says.
Agree with the Irish. we let port shoot on more than 10 occasions and people say Neco was brilliant last night.

4.) 25 Nov 2021 10:00:40
Are you lumping Neco in with the whole unit and calling him ropey, Irish? Or, are saying all four were ropey individually? Either way I can’t really agree.

I think any ropiness stemmed from Porto’s starting position and that we had a rookie at number 6. Tyler did well, don’t get me wrong, but he’s no Fabinho so it means the defence has different pressures on it. That coupled with the fact that Porto set out to really have a go to try and get something from this game instead of needing to beat athletico Madrid meant they managed to create some chances. Still, what was it, 7 in the whole match? Only a few clear cut. Not bad I’d say with the team that got sent out.

I had Neco as my MOTM along with Thiago. He was aggressive, incisive and showed no panic, was up against a real speedster on his side and caused far more problems going forward than he allowed against him. Great showing IMO. His best yet for us.

5.) 25 Nov 2021 11:13:51
Keita - are you saying Klopp put Neco up for sale? Or any of the other players? You got any evidence of that? Don’t listen to Klopp but listen to you eh?

I don’t mind us being ‘ropey’ either, so long as it’s a 2-0 win.

At the end of the day, and despite some seeing the negatives from the performance at the expense of enjoying the win, we are clear qualifiers from what was supposed to be a difficult group.

Thankfully we can all get back to whining about not catching up with Chelsea at the weekend …….

6.) 25 Nov 2021 11:20:18
The defence as a whole was a bit dodgy, Porto had chances and didn’t take them thankfully. I would say the defence being a bit dodgy was probably more to do with the fact it was a little thrown together with only Ali and Matip the regulars, plus a kid in the 6 protecting them. Maybe I’m being a little harsh though saying dodgy because they didn’t play bad as such and there was no real urgency to win this game let’s be honest.
I thought Neco did alright to be honest, especially as the game went on and especially when attacking. He’s no Trent that’s for sure but nobody is.
I was more interested in watching players like the Ox, Kostas, Konate and Minamino. Players on the fringe of the first 11, I think it will be interesting to see how they get on this season.

7.) 25 Nov 2021 11:31:34
A comfortable 2-0 win, already qualified and with the chance to be the first British club to win all their games in the qualifying stages. Some youngsters blooded and as Klopp would say valuable rehab time for one or two returning from slight injuries.
It was possibly the first time that defence had ever played together before, and they had a 19 year old midfield CL debutant in front of them, so they were never going to be up to our usual standard.
Yet all some can find are negatives.

8.) 25 Nov 2021 11:47:17
. or you were priced out of a move.

9.) 25 Nov 2021 14:28:47
I hope the players have the intelligence to listen to what Klopp says even if some of our supporters don’t.

10.) 25 Nov 2021 17:14:05
Thought Neco played well, always looked for the ball and was a willing outlet, used it well, defensively was ok. A solid 7/ 10.

11.) 25 Nov 2021 17:16:52
IR, under the circumstances and context of the game where we had literally nothing to play for, I thought Williams was very good and showed great fight and desire to get forward and combine with Ox and Salah and Hendo when he came on. Ropey? Yeah, . What were you expecting from a makeshift team and defence? You're preaching to the choir on that one, bro.

By far the best transfer rumour we’ve had this window and the funniest 5he game is that it might not even be about a transfer!

@MK Scouser my first job was down in the ‘sandcastle’ building over the road from the Pier Head. It was the late 70’s and I had a boss who was (with hindsight) pretty savvy although at the time he just seemed like a pain. There was one particular thing he said one day about a lad who wasn’t doing his job properly and was blaming everything but himself. The boss said “nobody is unlucky all the time”. Just saying.
