Hi all,
I canβt provide the name of the player for reasons that would compromise my source.
But Liverpool are working on an extremely ambitious marquee signing that is not Barcola.
Talks are not yet extremely advanced but there is confidence of a deal being struck.
I wish I could provide the name, but if things progress further then Iβm sure itβll leak to the media eventually.
03 Aug 2026 20:25:22
Give us a cryptic clue, Vic. π
Ken.
03 Aug 2026 20:25:44
Give us a clue, Vic! lol π
03 Aug 2026 20:27:23
As much as I love your posts, VG, this one is as vague as it could be. π€£π€£ Is there nothing a little more you could give?
03 Aug 2026 20:28:24
Well, if it's going at the pace of other signings, I'm sure we can get an announcement in 2027.
03 Aug 2026 20:30:25
At least tell us the position the player plays, you tease!
03 Aug 2026 20:30:36
Wow!! Let the rumour of names begin...
{Ed025's Note - i will start then..Mbappe?..
03 Aug 2026 20:31:45
Ooooh. Let's all guess and the winner gets all the marbles.
I'll go Olise.
03 Aug 2026 20:31:46
My guess would be a right winger or right back...
03 Aug 2026 20:31:56
Oh you big tease, Victor!
03 Aug 2026 20:32:54
Sounds promising.
03 Aug 2026 20:33:13
The clue is, it's another left winger to go with all the other ones. π€£
03 Aug 2026 20:33:16
It's Olise.
03 Aug 2026 20:33:41
π Alongside Barcola, or instead of, do you think?
03 Aug 2026 20:34:41
Ah, come on, Vic.
Something!
His position at least.
Nationality even!
03 Aug 2026 20:35:56
Seen something very random this afternoon regarding Bastoni - which would be incredible!!
03 Aug 2026 20:36:04
Guimaraes.
{Ed025's Note - decent shout that Zara..
03 Aug 2026 20:36:15
It's a midfielder.
{Ed025's Note - ahh...Bruno then possibly..
03 Aug 2026 20:37:45
Cheers, VG.
Unless it's one of Caicedo, Hakimi, Cubarsi, Olise or Kvara, it's a tent, not a marquee.
{Ed025's Note - are his initials Tee-Pee.. :)
03 Aug 2026 20:38:30
I'm gonna guess it's a striker if it's a super duper marque signing.
03 Aug 2026 20:40:17
Let's all make rational guesses...
Olise.
03 Aug 2026 20:40:56
Flange, do you know lebouefcurtains? You two should Meat.
03 Aug 2026 20:41:05
I'm going way left field... Martinez to replace Allison. (I hope not, of course).
03 Aug 2026 20:42:14
It's TAA.
{Ed025's Note - only if the fee is 30 pieces of silver FM.. :)
03 Aug 2026 20:44:13
I'm going for Olise with Gakpo going the other way!
03 Aug 2026 20:44:30
Thanks VG, sounds exciting and no need to compromise your source at the expense of doubters and the impatient hahaha. It's like the anticipation of opening that surprise Xmas or birthday present in a big box hahaha.
03 Aug 2026 20:45:36
This window or next window.
03 Aug 2026 20:46:39
Are there any 'marquee' right wingers left out there?
Or is it another position?
This is intriguing.
03 Aug 2026 20:48:00
Thanks, Vic, surely you can just tell us his main position, the suspense is killing me!!
03 Aug 2026 20:49:22
Gakpo favours a move to Bayern ... Maybe him plus cash for Olise.
03 Aug 2026 20:51:08
Rodri.
03 Aug 2026 20:51:33
@VictorGoddamm, League? π
03 Aug 2026 20:51:50
My turn, I'll say Pedri or Vitinha.
03 Aug 2026 20:52:54
Jude Bellingham, Pedri, Rice, but I'm going for Valverde hahahaha.
03 Aug 2026 20:54:03
Foreign based or England?
03 Aug 2026 20:54:25
Zaire-Emery.
03 Aug 2026 20:54:28
Love a good game of Guess Who... Is he wearing a hat?
03 Aug 2026 20:55:42
Alex Scott.
03 Aug 2026 20:56:37
Is it Tchouameni?
03 Aug 2026 20:56:38
Diomande?
03 Aug 2026 20:57:21
Simao.
03 Aug 2026 20:57:31
I'm going Olise.
03 Aug 2026 20:57:46
Tchouameini?!. π
03 Aug 2026 20:59:44
Joao Neves or Rodri.
03 Aug 2026 20:59:47
Have we gone from monitoring to actually pursuing Konoplya.
03 Aug 2026 20:59:58
Say nothing VG. π€«
03 Aug 2026 21:00:03
Heyyyy, Jude.
03 Aug 2026 21:01:57
Give us a clue. How many words?
03 Aug 2026 21:04:00
Thank you, Victor.
How much is the transfer fee for this player?
03 Aug 2026 21:05:31
A Real Madrid Midfielder perhaps?
03 Aug 2026 21:05:53
If it's a midfielder I'm gonna hazard a guess at a Real midfielder.
Valverde or Cammavinga, maybe McAllister going the other way.
03 Aug 2026 21:05:57
Ah, midfielder, guessing either Wharton or Bruno, either would be great!
03 Aug 2026 21:06:36
I'll guess Barella with Jones tied up in the deal.
03 Aug 2026 21:07:09
I heard we were looking at Zaire Emery. Sorry, spelling. Would he be considered a marquee signing though? Guimeres would be good though. If it was Newcastle, they will hate us. π³ Rodri maybe?
03 Aug 2026 21:08:46
Is it Maradona, VG?
03 Aug 2026 21:09:13
I am going for Bellingham.
03 Aug 2026 21:10:36
How many truly marquee signings could we think of, even if, we as fans, think they are unaffordable, without putting VG on the spot?
Olise, possibly on top of everyone's list.
Alvarez, but do we need another striker?
Fernan Torres, is he marquee and do PSG want him?
Just putting it out there.
03 Aug 2026 21:12:39
I'll get pelters here because it really depends how you look at "Marquee signing". Got a feeling Bruno goes to London, leaving Lewis-Skelly wide open to negotiate with.
I'd happily consider that as a marquee signing. π
03 Aug 2026 21:13:02
I was thinking Valverde too, TJury. Sure, we've been linked previously. He's a top player and can also play right back. Would be a pretty clever signing.
03 Aug 2026 21:13:21
I think Pavlovic would be an incredible signing. He's probably right at the top of my list if we're talking about realistic marquee midfielders.
Like many of you, I'm struggling to think of many others. Vitinha, Neves, Pedri and Valverde all seem pretty much impossible to get, while Baleba and Wharton would cost an absolute fortune. Camavinga is an interesting one, but I can't see Madrid letting him leave unless he pushes for it. Manu Kone is another name thrown about.
If it ended up being Pavlovic, I'd be absolutely delighted!
03 Aug 2026 21:13:49
Vitinha or Valverde?
03 Aug 2026 15:06:18
Afternoon Gents
No panic on Barcola transfer.
Fee agreed.
Terms agreed.
Payment structure agreed.
PSG just unwilling to officially announce just yet.
Cheers.
03 Aug 2026 15:44:46
Good stuff Robbo, thanks.
03 Aug 2026 15:45:00
Why won't they announce it?
03 Aug 2026 15:46:36
Cheers, Robbo.
If it's all done, can we move onto the other priorities?
I have a protractor, set square, scientific calculator, squared graph paper and 2H pencil to donate if it helps with that.
03 Aug 2026 15:51:39
Top stuff, Robbo!
Presumably PSG want the Akliouche deal over the line before everything is announced.
03 Aug 2026 15:53:54
Thanks, Robbo.
Can we not do other business in the meantime?
03 Aug 2026 15:55:24
Please tell me we are working on other transfers, why we have to wait for PSG?
03 Aug 2026 15:56:55
Brilliant news, Robbo!
03 Aug 2026 15:57:07
Bit of a pain for us, could do with him joining up with the squad soon.
03 Aug 2026 15:58:39
Well, if other clubs realise PSG suddenly have Β£100m to spend, suddenly prices go up.
03 Aug 2026 15:59:31
Thought Akliouche was agreed? They weren't shy in letting that slip out.
03 Aug 2026 16:08:13
Great news, thanks Robbo.
03 Aug 2026 16:16:16
They do not want Barcola to be match fit when he joins so that he does not perform when we play our customary knockouts against them in March next year. ;)
03 Aug 2026 16:49:47
But if fee and everything are agreed, I hope we are working on some other deals behind the scenes. We can do a Gerrard Houllier style presentation of the new signings. :)
03 Aug 2026 17:10:00
Nobody does carriage-return like Robbo. Nobody.
03 Aug 2026 17:33:34
Maybe waiting on Godts? He is a left sided attacker so would replace Barcola directly in the team as opposed to right sided Akliouche.
03 Aug 2026 17:34:49
Nice one, Robbo.
Taurus01, Barcola (just like our very own Victor Munoz) is on holiday. He would be on holiday if we had signed him earlier, just like Munoz is now due to WC commitments.
The process is the process.
03 Aug 2026 18:08:02
Are we waiting on getting rid of a few players before going again?
03 Aug 2026 18:10:25
Phew, thanks Robbo!
03 Aug 2026 19:18:50
Cheers Robbo, now move on to new targets.
03 Aug 2026 19:30:58
Thanks for sharing, Robbo!!
03 Aug 2026 19:19:11
Good news but waiting for PSG to allow us to announce it is utter poo
We are about to give them over Β£100m fo RV the boy, we should be telling the frog eaters to shut the front door and do one.
03 Aug 2026 20:23:27
Cheers Robbo. Helps PSG only, so hope that's a good deal for us. As for us, we've got the Diamonde and Barcola money burning, so how doesn't that affect our targets being increased?
03 Aug 2026 20:31:26
That's good news to the point that Barcola
is what they've gone for (the so-called scouts department). I personally am not convinced on the lad, but assuming it's a poor market will say, hopefully I'm wrong and he'll be a star for us.
03 Aug 2026 20:41:30
Would be great if Barcola is a smokescreen for Olise.
03 Aug 2026 20:48:23
Got to love the audience. Bought this guy, now let's get another or who we buying next? What would they say if their loved ones acted like this? And, yes, of course I think like it, I just don't say it openly hahaha.
03 Aug 2026 14:07:37
Really wish I had some news to bring after the weekend's round, hit a personal best at least. This is a nothing new update, just a discussion starter.
Yesterday was truly a game of two halves and two teams - we will sign players, I just hope we sign enough players because from past knowledge, the club donβt want to sign stop-gap players.
Personally I think Jones is as good as gone, heβs spoken with the club last season and wanted to explore his options - rumours are it was down to playing time, squad role both of which makes sense.
Gakpo is open to move, Bayern would be a preferred choice, Iβm not sure on the Tottenham interest as my buddies arenβt linked to anyone there, currently. I would like to see him stay, good quality depth option and I think he would improve under AI.
Things will pick up, donβt cancel your FlightRadar subs just yet.
Diddly out.
03 Aug 2026 15:02:31
Thanks, Neddy. Like Ron Keague said a few weeks back "won't somebody think of the children". π
03 Aug 2026 15:03:24
Okily dokily, Flanders.
03 Aug 2026 15:08:50
We are desperately lacking depth in the squad, hopefully AI isn't neglected and is given what he needs to have a decent run this season. Don't think I can relive another 25/26...
03 Aug 2026 15:17:39
Appreciate the update, Ned!
You'd have to assume that the groundwork for further signings is in place.
I'm a bit skeptical of their hesitation to buy 'stop-gap' players, depending on their definition of 'stop-gap'. Surely they have to.
03 Aug 2026 15:31:20
Just as a personal aside, I still haven't got quite conditioned to seeing "AI" in posts and recognizing it as referring to "Andoni Iraoli," rather than "Artificial Intelligence"--especially since a lot of the recent club strategy could believably have been generated by the latter.
03 Aug 2026 15:32:36
Cheers, Ned.
With all the new coaches/managers in the Premier League, perhaps this is the best time to complete the transition work. Pushing more squad renovation work into January and next summer would be so frustrating after electing to dismantle a title winning squad last summer.
Marma, Ramsey, Tsimikas, Endo, Chiesa, Curtis, Gakpo, Macca, Elliott - if they are not the future, replace them at the earliest opportunity. Sometimes you just need to make a deeper cut first.
03 Aug 2026 16:21:36
What personal best round is Ned talking about?
03 Aug 2026 16:36:26
Kaka, he plays golf.
03 Aug 2026 17:36:46
Awesome sauce, Ned. Gakpo is 50/50 at this point, so if he goes to Bayern, esp., I would get it.
Now if he goes to Spurs, I wouldn't get that one, tbh.
03 Aug 2026 11:40:56
A lot of the issues we have had up this point transfer wise can be traced back to 3 things. Slot and Edwards leaving plus the Diomande fiasco.
As previously mentioned when Edwards left, transfer plans were a bit of a mess. Slot leaving also changed plans because we had specific targets with him in mind. That meant a lot of scurring about and due diligence in the first couple of weeks after the season finished, whilst we tried to get Diomande in. This is how the Munoz deal came about and caught people off guard. With the Diomande deal being so difficult, it took a lot of time away from other potential transfers.
That being said, things are expected to ramp up over the next couple of weeks with targets being identified and the team being back in the UK.
This comes from someone I trust and is connected to the club.
As the late great Ed2 would say RTFP if you want to know who the targets are π
03 Aug 2026 12:05:27
So who are the targets?
Kidding!
Thanks, TheFields, makes a lot of sense.
03 Aug 2026 12:06:08
Thanks, TF....
Just the post we needed after that 2nd half performance....
03 Aug 2026 12:08:51
Cheers, Fields. I think quite a few get a little nervous etc when they see 1 or 2 half arsed performances in the second half of that game last night!
I'm trying not to worry too much. I know they're not stupid enough to not know we need some squad depth.
What I am looking forward to though is a manager who will hopefully give some a chance rather than assuming we need to just go and spend another 100mil on someone who, let's face it, most likely has the same or less experience of playing in this league than our youth/reserve players!
03 Aug 2026 12:05:38
Thanks the fields, would you say Diomande is a definite no now and we have walked away? I do rate him and him and Barcola would be great additions, but understandable if we have walked away given his agency.
Is Reals interest genuine?
03 Aug 2026 12:23:03
Are we looking at any HG players under 25? The lack of homegrown/English players in our squad is concerning. Best team in the land should have a good core of British players. Colwill and Alex Scott/Adam Wharton would be a delight.
03 Aug 2026 12:26:49
Cheers, TheFields, let's hope they get a move on.
03 Aug 2026 12:30:09
That's pathetic, though, isn't it? How can one transfer affect the whole window? A multi-billion company can't multi-task. There have been very good players transferred this window while we have been pissing about. No one ever takes responsibility.
03 Aug 2026 12:32:52
History says they are 2 shoes. We have a habit of leaving squad gaps, CB and RW particularly. Weβve been spoiled by VVD and Mo never getting injured, and have run light for a while in those key squad positions, arguably CM as well.
03 Aug 2026 12:36:13
Thanks TF, that all sounds about right, let's hope we have some transfer success these next couple of weeks.
03 Aug 2026 12:37:27
Very concerning at the moment. Four centre back options, with only one of them being fit and only three weeks out from the season. Right back situation also not great.
Hopefully, as you say, it ramps up soon.
Don't like to be negative, but when you see how other teams are strengthening in the market and so far we have let go of three very important players and not replaced one of them.
03 Aug 2026 12:40:21
Cheers, Thefields.
At this point, I have no confidence that we'll close a third of the gaps in the squad, never mind half of them.
03 Aug 2026 12:43:07
Thanks for the update, TF. Hoping we get 2-3 in alongside Barcola and replace any further outgoings like for like. A season of transition to Iraola's coming up, playing style shaping a new team and squad.
03 Aug 2026 12:55:38
Great update, TF, cheers!
As for last night, I have never and will never take any notice of pre season friendly score lines.
03 Aug 2026 12:57:49
The targets from previous posts.
Barcola
Wharton
Konsa
Igor Thiago
Kounde
Tomori
Rayan.
03 Aug 2026 13:12:47
Disappointing to hear that Edwards' departure has any impact on the transfer window, given a) he is not the Sporting Director, but rather an FSG employee tasked with driving the multi-club strategy, and b) that he gave FSG notice of his resignation in August 2025.
What the heck do Richard Hughes, David Woodfine, Julian Ward and Pedro Marques do all day? Has any other club hired so many football directors in order to do nothing in the market?
03 Aug 2026 13:12:51
I wish The club would stop playing "PR" with transfer news and just get business done like other clubs.
03 Aug 2026 13:20:06
Wasn't the current model put in place specifically to avoid this exact issue? The club needs to do better.
03 Aug 2026 13:21:34
Bring in Kounde or Quansah for RB/CB cover replacing Konate. Nyoni replaces Jones. Munoz id see as finally replacing Jota (RIP).
Barcola in and another winger (Right sided) and replace any out goings. I think we'd be good to go, but will feel light if we get hit with 2-3 injuries.
03 Aug 2026 13:55:24
After the first 3 friendlies, it's hard for me to believe that they aren't working on the back line. For me, that would be a gross mistake. I get that they want to get Barcola over the line, but they have to be working on the backline behind the scenes. I cannot believe that is not the priority at the minute.
03 Aug 2026 14:21:35
@soccer man, I have not seen us linked to Igor Thiago once???! The only person who has constantly been pushing it has been you. No clue why because he's far from Liverpool quality and Brentford will ask for heaps.
03 Aug 2026 14:37:19
Thanks TF!
Hopefully we'll see some movement soon.
Fingers crossed that Iraolo trusts some of the youth for cover in some of the weaker positions. Nyoni, in particular, looks promising.
We deffo need more strength at CB. I think we'll manage at RB. If we can shore up CB, then that'll allow Frimpong to be more adventurous on the right.
03 Aug 2026 14:46:30
Hughes is a blagger who is suited.
To a small club or Dubai. Edwards thinks he is the second coming, but his success was built on the shoulders of giants.
Name an Edwards / Hughes signing that is both suited to our style and who has smashed it? Eki was decent, for a while, but we usually
Play with hard working forwards.
03 Aug 2026 13:13:24
@soccer fan where is Igor Thiago coming from lol. That's the first I've seen him linked with us on this forum or anywhere for that matter. Rest are all legit links though correct. Zabarnyi as well though post below reckons that is dead.
03 Aug 2026 13:51:55
Great to see a shout out to the legend that is Ed002.
03 Aug 2026 15:41:59
Cheers the fields, you leg end.
03 Aug 2026 16:49:03
Thanks TF.
Going out on a limb here. Sign Micky VDV for CB/RB. Quick AF. Knows the league. Bit injury-prone, but a good shout.
Koumas takes LMF/LWF. Swing those crosses in. Barcola will be first choice, though, inverted LWF. Munoz & Ngumoha at RWF to hug the touchline, LB & RB can tuck in or inside overlap.
Gakpo stays till winter when Rayan is available. Covering Isak, and could remodel as the new Nistlerooy.
Also get Svensson, replacing Tsimikas. Can play DMF as well, young and tenacious.
Wand of a left foot. Bajcetic & McConnell as Backup DMF. Grava back to his preferred AM post to fight with Wirtz. Szobo & Nyoni to start, easy.
So ins: Svensson, Barcola & Micky. Rayan in winter.
Outs: Jones, Elliott, Macca, Tsimikas, Endo & eventually Gakpo too.
With VVD legs, Micky can cover any counter attack while Kerkez, Frimpong or Bradley bombs forward. Well, at least until Leoni and Jacquet become fit and available. Then Micky can join Gomez on the treatment table hahaha.
03 Aug 2026 17:00:05
So what's the difference with the targets since Slot left. As far as I can see, it's all the same names being linked as when he was manager.
03 Aug 2026 17:38:09
Thefields, keep up the good work, man.
03 Aug 2026 11:27:09
I have been told that new CB won't be Zabanryi.
I had a conversation with his agent on Saturday and all the rumours surrounding him leaving PSG is completely false and he will be staying in Paris.
03 Aug 2026 12:06:02
Great first post!
Welcome to the boards, at least until the start of September.
03 Aug 2026 11:58:57
You have been told what? And by whom, exactly?
Cos "I have been told" means literally diddly squat.
03 Aug 2026 12:33:07
OliRed, he has literally told you what and by whom... up to you whether you believe. Sounds like the X-Files, "I want to believe".
03 Aug 2026 12:33:33
Yes, Oli, coz everyone explicitly reveals their source.
Lighten up, lad.
03 Aug 2026 13:26:40
But the OP did reveal his sources - said he spoke to Zabarnyi's agent, lol.
03 Aug 2026 13:28:15
Zabarnryi is staying at PSG, straight from his agent.
03 Aug 2026 13:33:18
He literally says his source is Zabarnyi's agent lol.
03 Aug 2026 13:33:44
Thanks redpathreds1, excellent info.
03 Aug 2026 17:39:07
Ah, @Man. I defo missed that one.
Fair play, OP.
03 Aug 2026 06:55:23
Not much positivity on the pages this morning. Where's all the "Iraola will get everyone fit and us playing the way we want to see?" A lot on here were saying that last season's squad should've won the league. Where's all the positivity gone?
03 Aug 2026 07:08:42
It's pre season - they're getting used to a new manager, they've played 3 games, won 2, haven't had the first choice team out with players still to return and 6 players or so out injured! WTF are you smoking!
03 Aug 2026 07:08:50
It comes from the lack of organisation with transfers.
Releasing those not needed - adding important players to fill the huge gaping holes from last season in pre season, so the manager gets the most time available to bring his ideas across.
The prep isn't very good, and it shouldn't be that way.
03 Aug 2026 07:10:19
Hi Rome,
We are still here, mate. One poor half doesn't mean we've given up. Actually, it is even more blatantly obvious that we need defensive reinforcements. So hoping club concentrate on that next.
03 Aug 2026 07:15:53
Strange observation.
We ship 4 goals in 25 mins and lose 2-4, and you wonder where all the positivity is.
I would say there has been positivity about individuals - Dom, Nyoni, Wirtz and Isak.
03 Aug 2026 07:22:26
It's the poor 2nd half + the lack of transfer activity. We've all known this squad is lacking in multiple areas, and that 2nd half exposed it & seemingly we are doing nothing to address it.
03 Aug 2026 07:32:37
It's preseason and a work in progress. We don't know how much they are training while playing games. I'm sure Leeds are as well though.
I think Luke Chambers could do a good job as LB cover/challenger. Not overly keen on him as a CB with height.
Nyoni is having a good preseason and looks like he is returning to that very exciting prospect we saw a few years ago.
We are desperately short of CBs right now and RB is a massive issue too. Every team needs solidity at the back. Those 2 positions are a must.
If we can get Barcola, and keep Gakpo with Munoz also joining, options up top would look a lot healthier.
Still very positive and looking forward to the new season.
03 Aug 2026 07:35:57
We've also lost what, 3 or 4 players since last season...
Can hardly make that statement now, Rome...
If anything, that result is what we need.
Many posts have pointed to the same thing, and many of those posts were made prior to this game.
The squad depth is just not there...
In fact, even the starting 11 is not there.
But let's give AI the space to work his magic.
03 Aug 2026 07:39:20
Jones and Frimpong are just not good enough if we want to push on. As well as replacing these, as a minimum we need another CB and RW, and ideally another striker, or consistent game time 1/2 of the youngsters. Rumours of Chiesa going make it even more important. The worry is weve a squad of injury prone players: Isak, Ekitike, Bradley, Gomez, Leoni, Bajetic, Alisson, Endo, all consistently injured.
Last year we lost over 200 game days from first team players, and I don't see that getting better. That's the equivalent of missing 4 of the starting 11 and bench. With the weak bench as it is, it needs to change or we'll struggle for top 4.
03 Aug 2026 07:42:31
Rightsaidred, I'm not smoking anything. I take it from your post that you're still optimistic. Good for you.
Ron, I was asking tongue in cheek. I've been banging on ad nausem, that last season wasn't all down to Slot, though he certainly wasn't helping matters. Along with pretty much everyone on here, I believe we need at least 3 quality signings.
As much as I'm looking forward to watching us under Iraola, there was never going to be a quick fix to our problems.
I really hope I'm wrong, but I think there'll be as many downs as ups this coming season.
03 Aug 2026 07:54:00
I would say I feel quite conflicted because it seems clear to me that some players aren't good enough and probably should be moved on.
However, the squad also looks very light already, so moving more players on creates further headache around squad depth.
In my opinion, in the last two windows, we have also let high-quality players go, and not replaced them with similar quality players (Diaz, Trent, Salah).
I remain optimistic, but the manager is not a miracle worker. The players underperformed massively last season, clearly, and they will need to step up this season, and we need to hope that the new arrivals can make a positive impact.
03 Aug 2026 08:03:37
I'm glad all that positive energy has evaporated.
We can get back to slagging each other off again now like usual. β€οΈπ
03 Aug 2026 08:06:13
Good post, Navy. Your last paragraph is spot on.
03 Aug 2026 08:08:44
Love it, LFC8!! Can't be doing with all this peace and love!
03 Aug 2026 08:54:38
Navy Keith, summarised perfectly, well said!
03 Aug 2026 08:58:10
Rome, even after he's gone, you're still fighting Slot's corner.
We looked good and sharp in the first half, with half a team of kids playing.
Isak looked good, then we had no striker, and we gave away silly goals, and not one bit of any of the results matters; it's just about getting the squad fit, something Slot was not interested in because it got in the way of his trips to Ibiza.
Let's judge once the season starts to see where we compare to last season.
03 Aug 2026 09:02:59
I'm very positive overall, as the first half yesterday, Leeds had 9 recognised Premier League level players in their starting XI. We had 6; Mama, Frimpong, Kerkez, Szoboszlai, Wirtz and Isak. I think we're all hoping that only 4 of them are actually starters next season as well. Yet despite that disparity in experience, we absolutely dominated them. If we can dominate a strong Leeds side with effectively only 4 players who are bonafide first choice players on the pitch, we're doing something right. Alisson, new RB π€π», Bradley, Jacquet, Leoni, Virgil, Mac Allister, Endo, Barcola π€π», Munoz and Ekitike are all still yet to play for Iraola so we should keep that in mind when assessing this pre-season tour. That's 10 or 11 players of starting quality.
I'm still confident a RB and Barcola get done.
In the last 20 minutes against Leeds, it was very disappointing (hence the negativity today), because we still had Mama, Tsimikas, Jones, Gravenberch, Elliott and Chiesa on (6 regular Prem players), and yet we capitulated. I think Iraola will have learned a lot about them lot in that last 20 minutes. It would not shock me at all to see 3 or 4 of them moved on in the next few weeks. It was right to give them all a chance, but they've emphatically not taken it. Jones, Chiesa, Tsimikas and Elliott especially let themselves down because they've all been in pre-season training for a full month after a summer off and should've stood out on this tour as a result of that. They haven't.
03 Aug 2026 09:08:07
Grino, I'm not fighting his corner, I wanted him gone, the football was awful to watch. My stance is that it wasn't just him that was the problem, as big a problem as he was. There are players who simply aren't good enough and there are players who need to step up. We all know who they are.
03 Aug 2026 08:58:07
1) it is pre season opportunity for manager to get fitness levels up, see who is ready, on fringe, right to keep in academy, loan, offload
2) it is pretty much a squad of players where many fit into the last 3 categories
3) Luke Chambers, pal, is 6ft 1 that can't be an excuse for someone not being a CB.
4) I really worry about this continual call for loads of signings. A couple, yes, where we are really short but we have seen so many times that signings need time to gel (I for one predicted a non-title defence last year because of the significant level of change). Consolidation (at least a level of) is very key. We saw it year before our last title win, not a great season due to bedding in then the following year?
5) I really believe we'd be in the doldrums if half the critics on here, those that are quick to praise and as quick to criticise on the back of ANY type of result, were to be making the decisions we all are less than qualified to make
6) it has reminded me why I gave it a complete rest from even reading this site for a year or so despite the Eds doing a continual fantastic job
5)
03 Aug 2026 09:45:26
Navy and MK pretty much sum up my feelings.
I know we've been here before, especially in Slot's first season, but it is a perfect storm of new manager and World Cup, so it is reasonable that AI needs some time to check the players, the academy players, and confirm where he needs replacements.
03 Aug 2026 09:49:40
Based on the first 45 last night, AI will get a tune out of Wirtz and Isak this season. Nyoni is a much better player than Jones, and will be pressing Ryan for a starting spot. Dom is Dom. Kerkez did well. Rio did okay. The two centre halves showed they could be useful squad players. Virgil and Ali to come in, and Munoz to be tested. I get that to be 8 players ready, with 6 (mostly defenders) due back before Christmas.
AI has consistently said the squad is too thin, and has hinted this will be addressed. The style of football in the first 45 was exactly what we need. So we need a winger who can play left or right, and a defender who can play CB or RB. Decisions made about Gakpo and Macca, and we need to move on Jones (who was awful last night), Freddie.
03 Aug 2026 10:00:46
Rome, it was just on Slot, he set the standards. All the extra days off were not helping, making us unfit, gone after an hour in 99% of games, outrun in about 35 Premier League games. Yet he still stayed the same, played Saturday off, he flew Saturday night for a break.
No club has a squad of perfect players. We never had a squad under Klopp anywhere near as good depth as last season. But Klopp made changes, even brought under 23s in, they all still offered something.
There are players in the squad I just don't think will ever be good enough, Gakpo, Tsimikas, Frimpong, but if they are unfit they are always going to be way below good enough and that's on him.
But this preseason is a funny one with the World Cup; 75% of the first team did not start preseason.
03 Aug 2026 10:03:59
It might be a good time to remind everyone that we spent Β£450m last season on signings and had one of our worst seasons in recent years.
I agree we need signings, a few definitely. But I think we just need to be patient and see what happens. Ultimately, we have no control over what is going on, so no point in stressing.
03 Aug 2026 10:04:28
I really, really hope we can figure out a way for Ndukwe to stay with the squad this season. Someone mentioned ESC, but we only qualify for 1 ESC slot this season (complex formula, down to playing HG players last season) rather than the theoretical maximum of 4. He didn't have the greatest game last night, but he is only 18, and he's looked very composed, and imposing, in the first 2 games.
I wonder if EPL teams who have more ESC slots available - the lower table teams tend to have more HG players from their academy etc, so it's not unreasonable - could take Ndukwe on loan this season?
At least, if he's not in our squad, he's still getting EPL minutes, as if he spends the next 3 seasons playing in the English leagues, he could end up qualifying as HG when he is overage.
03 Aug 2026 10:07:46
Iraola will know the squad is lacking, and without reading this site, I expect the club and manager know we are short in players, this result will result in transfers and I'd rather have this result now.
03 Aug 2026 10:12:03
What Navy and MK said.
Having watched the game, there was a lot to be positive about in the 1st half. 2nd was poor, but we're flying without a senior CB right now and Leeds exploited that.
Iraola said himself after the match, he knows more about the players than he did before. A wise man sees failure as progress.
03 Aug 2026 10:14:41
Just reading through some of these posts, the panic is unbearable. We got beat by Leeds in pre season. Just relax. It's going to be a year of ups and downs like every single season of the past. It's competitive sport, win some, lose some. Can't win every game and every trophy, can only improve on the last game, that's it.
Yes we have some gaps in the team that need addressing, let the people who get paid millions sort that out. More scouts and financial experts on here than actual fans. Get in the ground, scream your head off for 90 minutes, and get behind the team, just enjoy it.
Thanks.
03 Aug 2026 10:18:25
Grino, I hope you're right and, as you say, it was all on Slot. I don't want to be coming on here at Xmas, like Billy Big B*******, saying I told you so. I'm just not that confident, that's all.
03 Aug 2026 10:18:57
Well, perhaps take some of your own medicine, Rome?
Unless you're going to keep that energy when the performances and results are good.
For me, it's a journey. We're not quite at the stage where Klopp walked in, but the setting is somewhat similar.
Need to redefine our identity - physically and mentally. And the squad still needs work.
I'll be stoked with a top 4 finish this season, and expecting lots of ups and downs.
03 Aug 2026 10:27:49
MetroRed, a rare voice of reason!
For me, I am hugely excited and optimistic to see a move back to high intensity, high octane football, all the signs are that AI is taking us strongly down this road and is going to be a great ride!
But, being realistic, firstly being competitive with, and then consistently beating the best, will take time. Jurgen certainly didn't do that in his first season, and it's madness to expect AI to do so.
He also has to show his ability to handle the expectation and pressures, as well as the egos and big names, in his first huge job. But I for one am looking forward to see what he can do with a front line of Isak and 2 pacy wide men, all fed by Wirtz who's now bulked up and fully acclimatized to the PL, with a rampaging Dom behind them.... Yes, I fully agree a proper DM would be ideal in this system, along with a genuine RB and fit RCB plus backups...
03 Aug 2026 10:34:44
Hit send early... - I'm sure you will keep the energy, Rome, with a pinch of irony and sarcasm....
I must say, people should prepare for a quick end to the honeymoon.
Just moving on, Slot ain't a silver bullet.
03 Aug 2026 10:37:41
"A lack of organisation with transfers" πππ Give your head a wobble, @Postklopp.
03 Aug 2026 10:44:04
It was a preseason game.
03 Aug 2026 10:52:36
We can win the league with this manager. He needs some help with transfers, otherwise we won't!
03 Aug 2026 10:54:01
To really challenge this season, we need to add 5-6 players, plus move on a few and arrange loans for others. It just seems there is an awful lot of work needed with the clock ticking.
The new manager didn't need to assess the squad to know our glaring weaknesses.
We needed a RW, CB, RB, DM as a minimum, the other players/positions could then be assessed. I don't think the pre-season has told us anything that we didn't already know.
03 Aug 2026 11:05:11
Yes, we can win the league with this manager, we did with the one before and the one before that!
No, we don't "need" 5 or 6 new signings. Definitely not regular first team players. Too much change takes time to gel, we have seen that a good few times now both with our own club and with others. The trick is a continual nucleus and a drip feed, I personally think that is where we are now.
A year of 2/3 signings in total and consolidation, new manager, new tactic and approach, camaraderie and team spirit speaks volumes in a team game. Not so long ago Leicester City won the league on that alone. We have a fair level of quality as we mostly always have had.
03 Aug 2026 11:06:38
The fact is, our transfer policy and proficiency at getting deals done effectively and quickly - is non-existent. Transfer targets should be virtually signed by the time the window opens.
It all falls down there.
It should never take months to get a relatively easy transfer over the line. Every transfer takes months and months. Only with Liverpool. Spurs have replaced a whole team in this time.
03 Aug 2026 11:23:26
Seriously, lose to Leeds with basically a youth team out and everyone loses their s***. ππ
03 Aug 2026 11:32:20
Every pre season is the same on here.
People take the pre season friendlies far too seriously. They are no more than training exercises.
03 Aug 2026 11:42:15
Patience is prudent in this ridiculous market - Iraola wanted to see what he had before pulling the trigger - the Leeds game has helped form that picture. Signings will
come and they will be better aligned than Edwards fantasy football ones. We do not need Barcola.
03 Aug 2026 11:45:04
John Barnes is right, Hughes and co make transfer dealings look like quantum physics. Truth be told he's an ex footballer, not necessarily a commercial man, so why would he be proficient. Apparently he's a great talker, though, so that may have swayed the Americans into accepting him into post.
This is nothing to do with the Leeds result, but the glaring holes in the squad and poor transfer choices like Mama, who are never likely to make it.
A simple soul can tell they're not the right buys for us, so how come our transfer team thought otherwise. It's puzzling, to say the least, as is the lack of business when Iraola has said numerous times what we need.
03 Aug 2026 12:03:31
It is probably a good thing we shipped those goals yesterday and it reminded everyone that we are woefully short all over the pitch. There is still time to build a title challenging squad.
03 Aug 2026 12:03:52
At the end of last season we needed 5 incomings. After Ibou left, we needed 6. Selling Gakpo would mean we need 7.
Iraola cannot magic that away through coaching.
3 of Hughes' signings - Frimpong, Marmadashvilli and Chiesa - are big concerns for me. There's nothing FSG transfer policy about these signings.
So far we have signed one player. A player who Newcastle did all the hard work in negotiating for, only for us to hijack it at the 11th hour.
Fabrizio Romano has now warned us to expect a saga for Barcola, which seems surprising given PSG have practically signed his replacement and more.
03 Aug 2026 12:52:31
Back in the good old days, in 1987 pre-season, we got tonked 5-1 by Athletico Madrid.
Then we went 29 league games unbeaten and won the league in the first week of April 1988.
That moment on, I've never taken note of pre-season results.
03 Aug 2026 13:12:07
Rome, if we are as bad as last season, you won't have to come on. I will hold my hands up and admit I was wrong about Slot.
But last season was one of the worst I've seen in following Liverpool in 45 years.
I thought the games we did win a lot were won by the quality players we had, doing something magical, like the first half of Slot's first season, when Salah won us the league, not Slot. Most games were won by one goal, scored by Salah or assisted by him.
It was like the Suarez season with Rodgers, but like last season with Arsenal winning the league without much of a challenge, where Rodgers had a very good City to finish above.
I know my view on Slot was over the top. The thing with Slot, I think he is a very good manager, very tactically aware, but managing a club of Liverpool size and expectations takes 100%, and as Klopp admitted, he could not carry on anymore, and that's how Slot should have left after the first season, when he was not committed.
03 Aug 2026 13:23:46
I'm with you, Ron. In fact, I believe that on average our better seasons through the years have come on the back of less than dynamic (in terms of scorelines) pre seasons. There are only 2 games in August that matter.
02 Aug 2026 17:34:04
Hi all,
Besides the already known targets, Liverpool are very keen to get Wharton, while Stefan could be utilized on the right, so no new RB for now. I'd take a risk and say that Lfc will make a bid to Palace this summer.
Svensson is very much liked by the Club but they would pay only if Kostas gets a permanent transfer out.
No clue on Tomori, but no concrete interest or negotiations either.
T. Araujo of Benfica was looked at but his release clause is way too high.
Ezri Konsa wants Arsenal, and might get his wish soon.
02 Aug 2026 19:05:41
So basically we sign no one.
02 Aug 2026 19:15:04
Let's hope for some fast paced transfers soon then. According to Romano, Barcola could take another week (if it doesn't fall through), there's only 3 weeks until the season starts, and we've not heard anything concrete from journos for anyone else!
02 Aug 2026 19:37:52
Still considering Bajcetic to play any kind of role this season is cause for alarm bells itself.
02 Aug 2026 20:07:09
As93lfc, why do u say that? He was brilliant when he played for us and has been unlucky with injuries.
02 Aug 2026 20:16:50
I can see both of your points, @as93lfc and @ynwakopite. While he was really good when he played for us, he hasn't played in like 2 years now. It will take him a few months only to build match sharpness, let alone any type of form.
However, if the fitness staff feel he can get fit in time, I will be very happy to see him given a chance.
02 Aug 2026 20:29:15
Appreciate that info, Stan.
02 Aug 2026 20:41:45
@koptie, I was a big fan of him when he burst onto the scene but, like @thekoparmy said, he's not played for two full years. I can't see him coming back from that, staying fit and putting in good performances.
02 Aug 2026 21:00:24
Bajetic's injury was horrific and one of the most uncommon injuries in football. It's amazing he is still running, let alone playing football.
He was young and immature, and turned up late for training. Let's hope he has learnt from that and grown up a little.
02 Aug 2026 21:53:09
@Areola, give us a clue what you are talking about.
02 Aug 2026 23:28:49
I'd love Bajetic to feature, but he probably needs a loan to a lower division team or a different country with less physicality.
Throwing him into the deep end and relying on him as a starter after 2 years without football, especially in an unfamiliar position where he might do awkward movements, seems unwise.
Of course, the medical team would be the ones qualified to make those calls... I just feel the guy needs an extended period of game time without the crazy pressure and physicality you'd get playing for a top 4 PL team.
02 Aug 2026 23:38:51
Bajcetic played in 12 games for Red Bull Salzburg in 2024. And he played in 14 games for Las Palmas last year. And he must have trained to play in those games.
He has played in a total of 12 games for Liverpool.
Why post guff like "he hasn't played in 2 years" when it's not true?
03 Aug 2026 00:30:38
ArAy, because people believe the exaggerated clickbait headlines online. Which, of course, stated that he hadn't played for Liverpool in 2 years... aigh because he wasn't there, as you say.
03 Aug 2026 02:28:38
Stefan Bajcetic will not be our RB this season, no way.
An epic fail by the club if they don't sign a RB starter this summer.
It's really crazy thinking.
03 Aug 2026 02:57:43
I believe you mean it's the crazies trying to think, @Shughes.
03 Aug 2026 09:46:36
Hi @Rudjo, perhaps it's misunderstood. Sorry, sir. So basically, three transfers are possible. Barcola, Svensson and Wharton.
TBH, after last night's game, signing a cb won't come as a surprise, but a proper thing to do (:.
02 Aug 2026 13:23:10
Hi all,
As far as I am aware, Liverpool will not sanction a sale of Cody Gakpo until a suitable replacement is lined up. And no, that is not Barcola. He is considered a short term Mo replacement as far as I am aware. Iraola will not allow another forward to depart when our options are already limited in that department.
Defensive backup is a priority. Nico Schlotterbeck has been of massive consideration but it remains to be seen whether or not talks will advance.
I would not be shocked if we resigned Jarrell Quansah. The player is open to returning and triggering the buy back clause is considered a serious option internally. Konsa is also of interest but the expectation is Villa would command a considerable fee - particularly as they are not hurting for money after the Rogers sale.
Josh Acheampong won't happen. Other players admired are Branthwaite, Murillo, Kounde and Zabarnyi.
02 Aug 2026 13:38:44
Isn't Schlotterbeck injured, though? I'm pretty sure his release clause has also expired, which would make a transfer more difficult to negotiate.
02 Aug 2026 13:41:46
Barcola or Gakpo are the short term no replacement?? Because neither are right wingers. Wouldn't mind Zabarnyi.
02 Aug 2026 13:45:45
Good news Victor.
02 Aug 2026 13:47:39
Resigning Quansah really is a move backwards. Rather give one of the kiddies a chance than get him. We sold him for a reason.
02 Aug 2026 13:50:24
Quansah would be an excellent option, plays RB too. It's completely unrealistic to expect both Jacquet and Leoni to be reliable options all season.
02 Aug 2026 13:59:12
Thanks, Vg, as always.
Honestly, hope we don't re-sign Quansah.
Couldn't believe we got 35m for him in the first place.
Read somewhere his buy-back this year is something like Β£70m, which would be outrageous.
02 Aug 2026 14:02:19
Cheers, Vg.
I have no info, but get the impression our directors would bite anyone's hand off for Β£60m+ for Cody. With Kroupi's injury, Spurs are pretty serious about Cody.
02 Aug 2026 14:18:43
I really don't rate Quansah but then again their aren't many CB's I do rate. He's HG, still young, would have resale value and Ed001 did used to say he had potential if he stopped strutting around like he was VVD reborn.
If the cost wasn't outrageous I guess I wouldn't be and about it, but if Zabarnyi was available I'd rather him everyday of the week.
02 Aug 2026 14:25:14
If a centre back is not an option, a possibility, or even being looked for, is it not worth a phone call or permission sought for Ndukwe to play, as he is now no longer an U21 purchase, but an option / dead cert of a first team option. Rules often change in times of desperation, and this looks like desperate times.
02 Aug 2026 14:30:03
I am still on the Dean Huijsen train. Ideal long-term Virg successor at LCB.
How about Schlotterbeck to Real, opening the door to us for Huijsen.
02 Aug 2026 14:40:06
Quansah is a liability. He won't be brought back.
02 Aug 2026 14:40:47
Massive respect as always, VG. π
No Quansah please. π
02 Aug 2026 14:47:31
Why do our recruitment team think it's ok to spend Β£100m on a player and then use them short term out of position? Doesn't make sense to spend top money and then dilute the impact. Also, doesn't help the player find their best form straight away, which is key for any new signings, particularly given the slow starts from Wirtz and Isak.
02 Aug 2026 14:51:06
Early days yet, but I think Ndukwe looks really good, to be fair, Hoof It, I'd love if he were able to stay, get a permit and play the cup games so we can get a much better look at him. He looks like he has everything we need in a center half, and if he could develop further, he could be some player.
02 Aug 2026 14:59:41
They don't, they are trying to sign a quality player because they want to and think he's a good player. No such thing as a short term Mo replacement. Could he be a replacement for Gakpo when he does go? Yes, but Gakpo might end up staying for now. But you don't buy a 100 mill player as a stop gap.
02 Aug 2026 14:35:33
Hoof it, I recall the great Ed002 used to say we messed around with the home office when getting the permit of a youngen, think it was the Brazilian Allan?
After that we struggled to get Awoyinis permit. Not sure what exactly happened as it was yonks ago but don't be optimistic about us getting Nduwekes permit.
02 Aug 2026 15:04:24
Maybe reading too much into it, but is it reasonable to guess that Quansah is the backup option in the event more preferred options fall through? Personally, I believe we could do worse than Quansah. I'd like to see him back.
02 Aug 2026 15:04:52
Quansah should never have been sold in my opinion, and thus I'd love to see him back. He is a far superior player to both Konate and Gomez. However, at the price being mooted (Β£50-60m) I just think there is better value to be had.
02 Aug 2026 15:10:27
We can thank Slot for Quansah's departure.
{Ed001's Note - at least he got one thing right then.}
02 Aug 2026 15:16:28
I expected as much, VG. Slot seemingly hated the mere thought of trusting an academy graduate.
02 Aug 2026 15:18:22
I wouldn't say Quansah is better than Kounde.
02 Aug 2026 15:24:50
Not against Quansah, the pelters he got on these boards were completely unjustified, in my view. VVD wasn't pulling up many trees in his early 20s either, CBs tend to develop later. Agree with MK that at Β£50-Β£60m (or more) there are better value options around; however, he is HG and CT, which would command a premium.
I wonder, with the injury to Kroupi, whether some arrangement (not a swap, as there are financial reasons for them not to happen) with Bournemouth could be worked out with Cody going to them and Rayan coming to us? Allows them to find another young gem to multiply the value of for RW, and Cody provides cover across the front 3, especially whilst Kroupi recovers.
I know Spurs have invested well, but Bournemouth are doing good business in the market and are in Europe.
02 Aug 2026 15:37:33
I highly doubt Gakpo would join Bournemouth.
02 Aug 2026 15:50:33
Yeah, you're right, Red Jones, based on salary if nothing else.
Bournemouth's star does seem to be on the rise, but let's see if the new manager can match AI.
02 Aug 2026 16:03:53
If the club has the same ambition as us supporters, then there is no way that they re-sign Quansah. He wasn't good the first time around, and nothing has happened to change that. There's a world of difference between him and the other names VG has mentioned.
02 Aug 2026 16:09:57
We need a player who can play both CB and RB or else someone's going to be doing a lot of sitting around.
02 Aug 2026 16:16:38
Quansah, good Jesus. Just when there's hope of getting rid of Jones then talk, of bringing Bambi on ice back. We're in trouble if this is true.
02 Aug 2026 16:20:29
Schlotterbeck is out injured for a few months & his buy out clause has expired.
Zabarnyi would be a great addition.
Has Ramsay played in any of the pre season games? How has he performed?
I haven't watched any pre season games.
02 Aug 2026 15:27:15
Quansah is absolutely garbage,
02 Aug 2026 16:35:42
Could always offer Barca Β£90 million for Cabarsi. They're in debt.
02 Aug 2026 16:53:01
This is some kind of joke resigning Quansah, don't give this any serious thoughts.
He'll never be good enough to return, rubbish for England too.
No way!!!!
02 Aug 2026 17:13:24
Have to agree with the other poster who mentioned Huijsen. If he's surplus at Madrid, I'd go for him.
02 Aug 2026 17:34:38
Need way more than Quansah!!!
The squad, as of now, it's going to fall short on challenging for one front, nvr mind 4!!
02 Aug 2026 17:44:32
We desperately need reinforcements, but I don't think bringing Quansah back is the answer - for him or the club.
Looks to me like we need an RB, CH; a midfielder and a forward.
And I'm baffled as to why we seem to be so quiet.
02 Aug 2026 17:56:49
There is a reason why the club put a buy back clause on Quansah. I could be wrong, but I didn't even see anything on a sell-on clause. He has progressed well so far, but not enough to be a first choice CB for us.
The smart thing to do for Liverpool is to let him develop for one more season, and get him back next summer. The number also reduces then.
02 Aug 2026 17:07:04
I'd much rather sign Neco Williams for the full back covers bothe side and go for Zabarnyi for the CB. Unless the club change their mind on sending Ndukwe, as I believe they can do the same as they did with the other young CB from Senegal.
Wouldn't want quansah to careless on the ball to reckless in challenges. Only thing he has on gomez is his fitness, unfortunately for games he can't stay fit otherwise he'd easily be up there with the best about in the league, he gets to much unfair criticism on here over his ability availability fair enough not ability.
Ed 1 with gomes do you happen to know if the club tailor the fitness and training for games or is it a case of everyone doing the same. Thinking in terms of past players like Ledly king, Paul McGrar. And if not maybe a case for them to do so
{Ed001's Note - he has been receiving tailored training a long time but England refused to listen to Liverpool and destroyed his body by ignoring those training recommendations.}
02 Aug 2026 17:59:16
We're quite because the head honchos at the club for some reason think that keeping the incompetent Hughes in the roll he's clearly not fit for us a good idea. Don't expect much from this window from that clown
02 Aug 2026 18:55:53
I'm not in the know, but what I do know is we shouldn't be going anywhere near Quansah. None of us shed a tear when we sold him.
02 Aug 2026 20:49:16
Selling Quansah was a brilliant deal for Liverpool, one of the few recent deals we "won".
I'd trust Ramsey and the young lads over re-signing Quansah. He's reached his level.
02 Aug 2026 21:03:23
If Chelsea come in quickly and sign Barcola after this long delay, it would be embarrassing.
03 Aug 2026 03:27:13
The negligence of keeping Hughes was called weeks ago, and many said keep the faith, it's early, World Cup excuses etc. It hasn't stopped other clubs doing business, so it's clearer it's more about our flawed approach to focus on Diomande and now Barcola.
We only seem to be able to do deals easily where there are buy out clauses. Everything else seems massively over-engineered.
03 Aug 2026 04:05:06
Not half as embarrassing as some of the stuff you can read on here, @Rax.
02 Aug 2026 19:24:20
Thank you for your reply ed1, its a shame that we should really be looking at having another 5-6 years out of him rather then seeing his contract out at a young age. England and Liverpool players just don't seem to go together Fowler overlooked and undervalued, Redknapp always seemed to to get injured when with England also.
{Ed001's Note - England are too arrogant and so don't want to listen to advice.}
03 Aug 2026 06:38:37
MKS, it's rare for me to disagree with you but in the case of Quansah, I reckon I will. He started off well and then imo hit a wall. Whether that's because he thought he had made it or because he had hit his ceiling (or I'm just wrong), I thought it was a good move for him to be sold. I'd agree he is a better option than Gomez, but only because of availability.
Personally, I still think Leoni and Jacquet are better options - until they show they haven't recovered from their injuries. My personal preference is for us to buy someone like Zabarnyi who can cover both RB and CB. Quansah is ok at CB, but he just looks out of his depth at RB.
03 Aug 2026 06:57:45
Jarrell Quansah has never been good enough. He was a liability in the World Cup.
It would be pure desperation.
03 Aug 2026 07:20:23
I would rather have a desiccated dead cat at CB than Quansah. At least the confusion would be from the opponents rather than our players when Quansah again passes to the other team. And the dried out cat would probably score via a deflection.
03 Aug 2026 11:48:21
I could see us signing Quansah, not because he's improved since he left but because it's an easy deal and we're not making headway in the market. I'm not convinced we've got a scouting set up tbh.
02 Aug 2026 12:38:00
Murmurs coming out that a CB is not a priority. Are just that. We will move for one but the main focus is getting the Barcola deal over the line. That's not to say the groundwork for a deal for a CB is not being done. As far as I'm aware we have enquired about the price for both Konsa and Kounde, with wages not seen as being an issue for either.
Midfield is less of priority, as players need to be shifted. With Sanagare going to Brentford and Bouaddi looking like moving to Citeh.
We can safely rule them out. Which means the shortlist is getting shorter.
A rumour from the wife, Morrison, Koumas and Nyoni have made a massive impression on Iraola. I'm not sure how true it is. She got it and a charity event we run every year that is for women only and is for local charities connected to domestic abuse.
Oh and just want to say thanks for the responses to my last post. I appreciate you all, even if I don't agree with some of you. π
02 Aug 2026 13:44:59
Thank you fields.
02 Aug 2026 13:55:58
Thanks TF. Tbf, Nyoni and Koumas have both looked really good in the pre-season. Morrison, I still think, needs to bulk up a bit. But I watch academy football sometimes, and he is a real talent.
02 Aug 2026 14:05:42
Cheers, Thefields.
There's always time for a few press briefings to say we aren't looking for incomings in the positions that we clearly need to add/upgrade in. All part of the dance, isn't it? :)
02 Aug 2026 14:20:09
Thanks, TheFields, and good on you and MrsFields for your charity work. Nice one!
02 Aug 2026 14:42:48
Brilliant, TF and Mrs. TF. ππ
02 Aug 2026 16:13:58
Nice one, Fields - it would be special if 2/3 of those kids stepped up this season. The market is farked, and high prices add to tire pressures on players. Youth team members play without that fear.
02 Aug 2026 18:00:41
Any news on when the Barcola deal will be done?
02 Aug 2026 18:23:15
Appreciated as always, the Fields.
02 Aug 2026 18:32:44
Cheers, Fields, disappointing nonetheless. Would like to see a senior CB brought in, considering that, bar Gomez, we've only got the 2 young lads coming back off injury, and likely won't be available for the first few games. Is the club at least prioritising a RB who can play CB?
02 Aug 2026 20:53:03
Thanks TF πͺ and Mrs TF.
My family has suffered bereavement associated with domestic abuse, so it cuts deep with me.
I agree that Nyoni and Koumas have looked good, Morrison looks skilful, but I haven't seen either enough pace or strength. He can work on it though.
02 Aug 2026 23:22:02
Jesus, Ron, I'm sorry to hear that.
02 Aug 2026 23:48:54
I'd be totally happy with Nyoni and Koumas being used as squad players. To me, both look ready to start getting some minutes with the first team. I like Koumas especially, the boy doesn't look scared at all, seems to have plenty of stamina, and would work hard for the team from the little I've seen.
Morrison, I think, needs a loan where he can be a starter at least half the games. I think he'd be more ready to step up in a year's time.
