I have fond memories of Argentina '78, watching with my mate Stephen Murdoch, whose dad was Scottish, so seeing Archie Gemmill score that goal was very memorable.

I recall rushing home from school to watch matches in Spain '82, Robson's goal after 26 seconds v France and the Hungarians battering El Salvador 10-1.

'86 was memorable for all the right, then wrong, then right reasons.

I think Italia '90 was the best though. Schillaci, England v Cameroon, Roger Milla, W. Germany v Holland.

Brilliant all round.

Aye, I've fond memories of them myself and Italia 90 was my favourite. A great summer, that.
Going out til all hours with the music sce at the time and not a care in the world.
Euro 96 was also very enjoyable but I still regret not going out for the Dutch game ?.

Nunez scored again last night in a 5-0 rout of Bolivia. He was the star and scored for the 7th time in a row for Uruguay. He equalled a 96 year old record for Uruguay in doing so. 7 shots in the 1st half.

In the right system (Uruguay play a 4-2-3-1), he looks better.

It must be doing wonders for his confidence so that’s good.
He still needs to work on his game to deal with the lightening quick premier league. Hopefully the new coaches can help him thrive.

I can see Uruguay winning the Copa which would be great for Darwin but then means the club and Slot doesn't see him until August.

Under those circumstances we might not even see him start the season as our centre forward.

Let’s hope the other 6 forwards (Danns and Gordon included) are just as accustomed to 4231 as Nunez is.

He is doing well in some matches
However he missed a hatful the other night apparently
He needs to become a goal scorer that doesn’t need a load of chances to score 1 goal- you simply don’t get a load of chances game after game in the PL
Hopefully the Copa gives him confidence and his conversion rate improves.

The system we played was great for him he got as many big chances and as much xG as anyone could have gotten he just kept missing. Hopefully he takes some confidence back to Liverpool.

xG ?? what does it even mean? Some made up stat that is meaningless imo.

Technically, you could probably have got 10 sherbet pips for a penny, but they were only sold in 20z or quarters.

Mojos were definitely only a ha'penny or 2 for a penny obviously.

How about a Fizz Bomb? anyone? 2p they were - strawberry or lemon flavour - and worth every penny.

My sweet shop in Leasowe had them all.

Can we please stop using words like warchest. It's a transfer kitty. We're not at war. In this day and age, it's a bit insensitive.

{Ed033's Note - Transfer kitty's are for women's football. :)

Are you telling me footballers are so thick, they can't adapt their style of play? What happens when they move to a new team? What happens when a new manager comes in? Do they always go to the ones that play their particular style of football? Do they as a team, tell the new manager they can't play possession football, or long balls, or counter-attacking because the previous manager has ingrained in them so much, that that is the only way they can play?

No, they don't do they.

It's obvious you know very little about how to play the game. Some of your comments are ridiculous and border on trolling, for the sake of being contentious.

I once told Jan to stop queue jumping. I was waiting to get into The Tavern in New Brighton (this was in 1996 when he lived in Rockland Road in Wallasey and was still, technically playing for us) . He'd just waltzed in front of loads of people on the pretence he was talking to 2 women he knew. He was blatantly trying to jump in. I said, "Eh Jan, the bar's not going anywhere and nor is the queue till you get back. "

He was actually really nice and apologised to everyone. He only stayed 20 minutes in the club.

Difference between Dier and Nunez incidents - Dier's family were subject to name calling - Nunez' actual family were involved in a physical incident, potentially actual harm.

Testimony to Steven Graham's acting again. The scene in series 2 with Lol's dad. horrific.

One thing which Thatcher did do that benefitted Merseyside, was nationalise the museums and art galleries on Merseyside in 1986. Totally going against type (her government privatised everything else), National Museums and Galleries Merseyside (now National Museums Liverpool) was saved from being run by councils.

As to everything else I agree. I'm from Wallasey, but have been Red since 1976. She, her government and subsequent Tory governments, pummelled this region, particularly Liverpool. There are other politics involved and if you live in Woolton, West Kirby etc. you probably escaped the worst effects.

If Man Utd bought half of the players listed for the amounts suggested, that would be north of 200 million.
