Van Dijkhas signed a two year extension. "Ambition of the club is clear".
Just breaking.
1.) 17 Apr 2025 11:34:44
Great news, glad to see it's finally done. Now time for Trent to sign? it wouldn't surprise me, nothing is done yet.
2.) 17 Apr 2025 12:20:33
Great news - looking forward to a Hughes summer after a year of Slot analyzing the squad to prepare us for next season.
3.) 17 Apr 2025 12:24:03
If the rumour that Trent was holding out for Salah and VVD to get new contracts, and then sign I'd be buzzing. Wishful thinking but from doubters to believers?
4.) 17 Apr 2025 12:27:46
Hopefully Salah. don't see it though.
5.) 17 Apr 2025 12:32:51
Virg and Mo have run cover for Trent.
Imagine they signed in Oct - the pressure that heaps on a key player when we are trying to win a league would be massive.
Leagues done, Trent may not play again so the pressure is off. This was done ages ago. It was two senior pros looking after a teammate. If they hadn’t any misplaced pass would be jumped on and questions asked.
They’ve played it perfectly.
6.) 17 Apr 2025 12:36:49
He's our number four!
Calm as you like from here, guys.
7.) 17 Apr 2025 15:32:14
Nah I don't see it happening either FM to be fair. What a surprise that'd be though if he did. After all the rumours and then he goes and signs a new contract? We can hope!
8.) 17 Apr 2025 18:00:47
Great news. Excited to hear it and that the behind-the-scenes work paid off.
9.) 17 Apr 2025 20:30:00
Brilliant news for the club that Virgil is staying. Two more years of top performances and he might just go down as our best defender ever.
10.) 18 Apr 2025 11:17:57
I don’t understand why everyone is so convinced Trent is leaving, he hasn’t said anything, the fact that mo and Virg chose to openly state they wanted to stay has nothing to do with Trent. Spanish media is a nightmare for unsettling players and fans. I’m sure Trent will hear what the club has to say, weigh up his options and do what he feels is best for him. I think it’s 50/ 50.
23 Mar 2025 21:36:54
Ed's can I just ask in your opinion can you see us trying to sign both Isak and Cunha this summer? I'm expecting both Jota and Nunez to leave so should give us some funds. Don't get me wrong one would be great but both would be excellent. We could potentially lose Diaz also.
{Ed001's Note - no, I would doubt that would be an option.}
17 Feb 2025 21:59:59
Can any of the Ed's confirm, if we have any interest in signing Florian Wirtz of Leverkusen? Looks like city maybe making a move and wondered if we would be in the market for a player of his calibre.
{Ed001's Note - we have maintained an interest since before his injury.}
1.) 18 Feb 2025 06:04:32
We have been. and currently are. monitoring the player!
2.) 18 Feb 2025 07:11:24
There is no reason to believe Wirtz wouldn’t be interested in a move to us should the opportunity arise, but Liverpool are unlikely to compete for him given the wealth of those clubs who would also be interested. Wirtz’s next contract will likely be for between £250k - £400k pw and Bayer 04 will command at least £80m for him. Liverpool won’t even contemplate such a move.
3.) 18 Feb 2025 07:57:51
Definitely will not be competing with Man City and Real Madrid who have both ‘declared an interest’. Kiss goodbye to this one.
4.) 18 Feb 2025 09:21:59
Once people latch onto a word they aren’t afraid to use it are they? I know because I’m am monitoring the situation. I think the idea - which was a very, very weak joke to begin with -should be taken out and shot now to put us out of its misery.
5.) 18 Feb 2025 10:59:53
At least most of us have stopped "hearing whispers. " I guessed it was supposed to be normal during the transfer window.
6.) 18 Feb 2025 12:18:02
In the past we have offered huge sums for players such as Van Dijk, Alison and Caicedo. The club has always said first the right player we would pay big fees. Wouldn’t Wirtz fit this criteria? Top player who seems to have overcome that injury, and still very young. I don’t buy the if city are interested we have no chance, as they wanted Van Dijk and he chose us.
7.) 18 Feb 2025 12:35:56
Wirtz would be the best player we could sign in the summer, could build the team around him.
8.) 18 Feb 2025 12:38:24
I would be shocked if Florian Wirtz doesn't end up at one of City or Bayern. That ship has sailed for us, unfortunately.
9.) 18 Feb 2025 12:54:31
If City and Madrid are to fight it out for his signature, as reported…. we will rightly step away.
10.) 18 Feb 2025 13:25:56
I think city will get a transfer ban as part of there sanctions.
11.) 18 Feb 2025 15:20:39
WDW, can you hold it while it's being shot.
12.) 18 Feb 2025 16:06:53
If anyone seriously believes we have any chance of signing Wirtz, then you’re living in cloud cuckoo land. We’ve no chance of signing him. It’ll be another frugal summer.
13.) 18 Feb 2025 17:54:17
For some reason I can’t explain I think there might be a lot of transfer activity this summer. No real evidence, just a gut feeling that Slot will get the green light to start rebuilding the squad with players that suit the style he wants to play.
14.) 18 Feb 2025 19:59:24
I hope it centres around players such Wirtz, Zubimendi, Isak, Huijsen, Cunha. Certainly don’t mean sign all but three would be a good start in rebuilding.
15.) 19 Feb 2025 01:06:43
Gut feelings are worthless. Previous inactivity or poor signings are a better indicator. Inactivity is most the most likely outcome. If all of Salah, Van Dijk and Arnold leave it’s entirely plausible that we sign no one on the grounds that we still have 5 forwards, that 3 central defenders is just about enough with Endo covering and Bradley is the new right back. And don’t say we haven’t been here before, as we have.
16.) 19 Feb 2025 07:59:27
Like the summer we replaced an entire midfield a couple of years ago @Victor? That window, and the ‘big name’ signings since then seem to not get a mention when the ‘lack of signings’ lobby get into their groove.
We have a number of players in their late 20’s and 30’s who need to be incrementally replaced. If you can’t see that - blinded as you routinely are by obsessing on real / imaginary weaknesses in anybody being “monitored” - then it’s not really worth trying to have a sensible conversation.
17.) 19 Feb 2025 13:13:17
I think we will be active in the Summer window regardless if the three players sign or not. Care to make a charity wager Viktor, put your money where your mouth is so to speak ?.
18.) 19 Feb 2025 17:29:48
Victor we bought Szoboszlai (60), McAllister (35) and bid 110 for Caicedo in same window. We also bought Gravenberch (35) and Endo (16). In same window.
19.) 23 Feb 2025 09:58:31
Viktor, have you ever stopped to think that not investing in the squad is not a good option if you want to protect the value of the team in the present or for future buyers? You think penny pinching and making profit on selling our assets is the only objective of the club but surely if we sell our spine and don't buy anybody we would struggle to make Europe and such a decision would effectively be commercial suicide? What makes you think fsg, whatever their flaws as owners of this club, want to sink the team into mediocrity by selling Virgil and playing endo as a center half? You're entitled to negativity but I think you need to make some sense, anybody who thinks the owners have some common sense is in your eyes blindly optimistic and being taken for a ride by fsg it seems.
Thankfully for us all the team continue to excel despite your grim predictions and prognoses, if we were to go by your forecasts fsg would ring konchesky and poulsen to come out of retirement and sign them on lifetime contracts.
02 Feb 2025 19:57:55
Anyone confirm if we have made an offer for a midfielder from Red Star call Andrija Maksimovic? Apparently mainly attacking midfielder only 17 years old.
1.) 02 Feb 2025 20:02:12
I’ve never heard of him but I’m a big fan of ball-playing Eastern European midfielders so I’m all in on this one.
2.) 02 Feb 2025 20:48:43
Na. Read the quotes from the agent. Not happening this window anyway. If a deal was happening, agent would be quieter. This smacks of agent throwing bait out there.
I think interest is possible. Think Ed002 mag have mentioned it but hd ain't signing this window.
3.) 02 Feb 2025 21:35:22
A littie bit of Eastern european MF dynamism and power would not go a miss for the run-in. This guy looks great on youtube. I bet Richard has been stalking his channel and the red star chat groups.
4.) 03 Feb 2025 05:02:10
Was his agent Zoran Stojadinovic that mentioned us with Villa and Leipzig, claiming we have an offer on the table for him. Fingers crosswd.
5.) 03 Feb 2025 11:37:58
He will not be able to sign till the summer due to his age.
01 Feb 2025 22:57:37
I see Cunha has signed a new contract at Wolves but there is a £60 million release clause inserted which becomes active this summer.
Will definitely leave this summer, as I have to say that's not a bad fee for a player of his quality. A good replacement for Jota if we move him on that is.
1.) 01 Feb 2025 23:18:54
Moving Jota on because he’s injury prone to replace him with someone just as injury prone?
2.) 01 Feb 2025 23:41:34
Viktor, you are becoming… Viktor!
3.) 01 Feb 2025 23:43:52
There is no way Cunha is as injury prone as Jota, no one is.
4.) 02 Feb 2025 00:16:19
No one is as injury prone as Jota, Gomez will give anyone a run for his money!
Curtis Jones is a good outside bet as well.
5.) 02 Feb 2025 02:19:32
Clearly ViktorGoddam is Viktor. Multiple accounts? I do not believe it!
6.) 02 Feb 2025 09:57:57
He plays mainly off the left side doesn’t he? With Cody looking so good there and nailing down that place it wouldn’t make sense to disrupt things. If he can play centrally or right side then yes he’d be a great option.
7.) 02 Feb 2025 10:33:06
So he missed 25 games in 6 years! So we need to get rid of Allison so. Can't be having those injury prone players around the place.
8.) 02 Feb 2025 17:47:30
Cunha won’t leave
He was kissing the badge yesterday so that means he loves the club and would never go anywhere else.
9.) 02 Feb 2025 22:09:16
Why would Cunha sign a contract extension and then leave in 6 months?

Just for fun, but say Arnold leaves for Madrid and we draw Madrid in next years CL. Would you be telling the players to target that side for attacks? Would thta be the area you consider the team will get more joy from attacks?
1.) 25 Mar 2025 20:41:13
Depends who Real's left back is. We will certainly be aware of Trent's strengths and weaknesses.
23 Feb 2025 21:31:21
Good to see Endo getting more and more game time recently, vitally important to give some of the midfield a break in games going forward. CL just around the corner and I think he'll be needed more now we are at the business end.
12 Feb 2025 14:00:37
Seen reports today that Huijsen of Bournemouth has a £55 million release clause that becomes active this summer. I'd say that's a good price in today's game. He has such a high ceiling and his debut season has been exceptional for Bournemouth. Exactly the player we need coming in as the new CB.
Last season I would have said Branthwaite (who I still believe is a quality CB), but Huijsen is the better player at this point for me, and Branthwaite would cost much more in my opinion.
1.) 12 Feb 2025 14:25:34
Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U, Bayern and Madrid all credited with an interest in him so won't be as simple as just paying the release fee.
2.) 12 Feb 2025 14:27:27
That does look good RJ, and I like the look of him too. £55m is, as you say, not bad in the current market. I'm sure Bournemouth would love some of our players too, so I'm sure there's deals to be done by Mr Hughes! Some folks will say "well why didn't we buy him for c£15m last season? I do buy the argument that one of the Eds made a few years ago that, at our level, and with the academy prospects that we have now and will have in the future, it's better to wait and pay a higher price once we know someone will be able to cope well in the EPL.
I wouldn't give up on Branthwaite, however. He is HG and is left footed, both of which are plusses in our squad. Also, as per another thread, I think he has been 'Dyche'd'. I know it's very rare for transfers between us and Everton, but, if his price has taken a bit of a knock and he's therefore back in the £50-£70m range, I would still be keen.
3.) 12 Feb 2025 14:38:09
Rumours are that Huisen didn't join us in the summer because we couldn't offer him enough game time. What will have changed this summer?
Perhaps he sticks around for at least another season at Bournemouth and we (and other clubs) look at him the summer after.
4.) 12 Feb 2025 14:57:14
He has 1 year of experience and made a good account of himself in the prem
VVD might not sign.
5.) 12 Feb 2025 15:33:50
Zed, Branthwaite ain't happening simply cos I do not see Everton selling to us. They wouldn't even sell us a virus, IMO.
I believe that, @Pelican. A lot of young players do this. I mean, Julian Brandt did it when we were interested in him in 2017 before we signed Salah. Now, I don't think he will join us next season either for the reason you gave. Things could change but I don't see it.
02 Feb 2025 21:29:17
Just for fun but in relation to CB, CF and CM positions for the summer, if you could pick one from the three below categories which would you choose?
Second part you have to lose a current player from the squad from that position.
CB
Branthwaite
Ignacio.
Huijsen.
Lukeba.
CM
Zubimendi
Baleba
Tchouameni
Kimmich
CF
Cunha.
Bowen.
Isak.
Vlahovic
For me I would choose Huijsen (Bournemouth) and lose Quansah. Only reason I'm selling Quansah is Gomez is versatile and Konate has become immense this season so can't lose either for me. If Trent leaves we still have Bradley and Gomez competing for RB also.
For midfield I would still choose Zubimendi. I haven't seen much of Baleba admittedly but I believe Zubimendi fits better than the others. For selling I would have to choose Jones. Wouldn't loose any of the first three, and I feel Elliot has more potential, and suffers less injuries.
for attack I'd choose Isak, for me the goal scorer we need, proven prem striker now. For selling its close between Jota and Nunez and would be open to both, but I'd go with Nunez simply because I think we will get more money for him than Jota.
1.) 02 Feb 2025 22:09:14
Huijsen or Branthwaite. Lose Quansah.
Baleba in. Morton out.
Isak in. Jota out. Because he's constantly injured rather than not being any good though.
2.) 02 Feb 2025 23:20:49
Huijsen For Quansah
Baleba For Jones
Isak For Nunez.
3.) 02 Feb 2025 23:59:28
Hato, Baleba, Gyorkeres, Mbuemo
Sell Nunez, Tsimikas, Kelleher, Jota, Chiesa
Resign Trent, Salah, Virgil.
I'm not asking much :)
I don't like selling Kelleher the most but no point with other goalie coming in.
4.) 03 Feb 2025 00:33:23
Huijsen, Ederson, Cunha, Rogers.
5.) 03 Feb 2025 00:40:26
Fairly easy one for me. Hujsen, Baleba, Isak
Lose Fabrian Mrozek. No idea who he is but he’s currently on loan with IF Brommapojkarna (no idea who they are either)
6.) 03 Feb 2025 01:05:48
Huijsen for Quansah
I'm seeing lots about Baleba, but haven't watched him or really know much about him. So I'd go Zubimendi for Endo
Isak for Jota.
7.) 03 Feb 2025 02:40:59
Surely CF need to consider Liam Delap of Ipswich.
8.) 03 Feb 2025 07:26:05
You are a funny bunny, Lee! You are joking aren't you?!
9.) 03 Feb 2025 07:33:38
Leek why on earth would you pick 9 goal Delap over 17 goal Isak!
10.) 03 Feb 2025 07:34:56
Huijsen, baleba and cunha - quansah, Morton and jota.
11.) 03 Feb 2025 08:16:48
Surprised that many posters would go for Hujsen.
He’s a great prospect but I don’t think he’d be first team for us at the moment and wouldn’t see him making a tangible difference between winning the title this season.
That being said, I don’t know much about the other centre halves on their either. I’d probably go Inacio for his experience (title winnings side, champions league)
12.) 03 Feb 2025 09:07:31
We’ll probably only buy anyone today if there’s a player about to get snapped up by another club who we’re seriously interested in bringing in, and we’d miss out if we waited until the summer. Maybe a youth prospect like the guy from Red Star.
As the Ed’s have said previously if you’re going to do business in Jan and want to integrate someone into the first team you’d do it early in the window.
The summer is going to be big, and given where we are in the league it’s probably better now not to shake anything up too much, and touch wood we don’t have any major injury problems to contend with so no urgency to buy.
In terms of the Isak conversation, it’s a nice thought but seems more like fantasy football unless we got silly money for Nunez in the summer. Given what Saudi paid for the Villa player it’s not impossible that they’d also pay crazy money for Darwin, not sure where Newcastle are with PSR but they need £100m plus to sell.
Perhaps we’d be better looking at their defender Hall for the summer, he’s a good player. The other fullback that may be worth a look is the Palace player. Both of them fly under the radar but are good prospects.
13.) 03 Feb 2025 09:22:05
Navy I think we only need a backup CB who is ready to improve. In an ideal world VVD signed another 2 year deal and him on Konate stay as the main two after that with Hujsen learning off both.
Then in two years Konate takes VVD’s place as leader of the back line and Hujsen takes Ibou’s place as 2nd in command
Virgil sticks around as a backup until he retires and becomes an assist to Sir Arne Slot in 20 (Nat Phillips is still there as well somehow)
14.) 03 Feb 2025 09:48:41
Would Huijsen move to us to sit on the bench for 2 years when he can probably play for Bournemouth in Europe next season? I'm not so sure.
15.) 03 Feb 2025 09:52:47
Huisen, Baleba, Isak. Easy choice, really. Unlikely of course.
16.) 03 Feb 2025 10:28:02
MK, Huijsen wouldn’t just be here warming the bench. He’s comfortable using both feet so could easily play alongside Van Dijk to give Konate rest, or vice versa. He’s one of the best young centre backs in the premier and probably in Europe, he’s regularly playing against the best attacking players week in week out and acquitting himself very well. To me this seems like an opportunistic signing to have a long term Van Dijk replacement who’ll get regular minutes (there’s 60 odd games over the season, he’d get plenty of games) and he’ll learn off of the very very best. Succession planning is something we need to be doing.
17.) 03 Feb 2025 11:21:47
Hujsen will do what he’s told. I’ve got it all worked out don’t worry.
18.) 03 Feb 2025 12:19:11
Must admit I did forget about Endo for midfield sales.
19.) 03 Feb 2025 13:17:05
Huijsen looks a great prospect - we were heavily linked with Inacio too.
Zubimendi would be great, Baleba looks a real talent though
Gotta be Isak up front, the chances he would get in this Liverpool team would be unreal
Personally, like others in this thread, I'd take the 3 that play in this league.
19 Jan 2025 20:44:51
Quick question if you know Ed. I'm under the impression we recalled Bacjetic from his loan at Red Bull, and then loaned to Betis.
If this is the case and with Slott not fancying Endo why didn't we just recall him to be part of our squad? He would more than likely get game time in second half of the season and could be a bonus for us at the business end. If it's not working at Red Bull let's use him ourselves. Looked great in the season before last and seems to be able to cope with demands of the league.
I may be completely wrong that he was recalled but I'm sure I read it before Xmas.
{Ed001's Note - you think he is going to trust a lazy arse kid over Endo?}
1.) 20 Jan 2025 05:54:35
Rarely has a player that has done so little been so hyped up.
2.) 20 Jan 2025 06:59:59
To be fair Thunderbird, he did look exciting when he burst onto the scene 2 seasons ago and was arguably our best midfielder despite playing so little. He hasn't pushed on from that though and has seemingly developed poor habits. It is disappointing but if he does not improve on himself, he would never be able to achieve his potential.
3.) 20 Jan 2025 07:13:42
Kids always late for training. Not an attitude I expect Slot is tolerable too.
4.) 20 Jan 2025 07:16:30
Thunderbird, you obviously didn't watch the 8 straight games he started and played in, 2 seasons ago. One or two of which, he was clearly MOTM. That kid, from those days, would clearly give the MacAllister, of today, a run for his money.
Why is praising a kid with potential considered hyping up? The talent is unquestionable, but the application is lacking. But he's tall, and you know I like that ?.
5.) 20 Jan 2025 07:36:12
Maybe Slot fancies Endo more than Bajcetic.
It's clear that Slot doesn't rotate that much, especially in the League, and is, or has needed to be, an attack minded coach. We saw Elliott and Jones come on at the weekend. If we were one nil up with a few minutes to go he might have used Endo instead.
It's not always my kind of football but whatever Slot's thinking, it has worked so far.
6.) 20 Jan 2025 08:17:19
I wonder what Roy Keane thinks about Bajcetic bursting onto the scene ?.
7.) 20 Jan 2025 08:58:47
TB2 you obviously don’t remember Man Utd’s Adnan Januzaj. Scored 2 goals for David Moyes team in a comeback win against Sunderland. Got a 5 year deal and nominated as BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.
Went on to score 3 more goals for Man U over 50 games. Now playing for Las Palmas ?.
8.) 20 Jan 2025 11:12:48
Ed, how is he doing at Salzburg? I would imagine when Ljinders got sacked, his playing time would decrease. Has he made any progress? Is the attitude problems still there?
{Ed001's Note - he was the same, turning up late constantly.}
9.) 20 Jan 2025 12:39:37
I rate Baj and have since the first time I saw him play. Now if he can't be arsed about turning up early to training then, none of the talent I think he has will matter.
10.) 20 Jan 2025 13:51:14
I agree Oli, talent will only get you so far - actually turning up on time and working hard in training should be a basic thing every footballer does. If he can't do that and, by all reports, seemingly can't be arsed to change his ways in that regard, then that's not really someone you want near your first team is it?
14 Apr 2025 15:33:29
Is there any updates on the Saudi clubs coming back in for him in the summer window?
28 Mar 2025 08:30:16
Out of all the linked players I’m hoping this one happens more than others. He’s been very impressive in his first season in the prem. At 50 million he’s a steal in today’s market, has a very high ceiling and is still very young. He can also eventually be Van Dijk successor on the left hand side.
For me what you call a no brainier for many reasons including above points. If Doak isn’t wanted by us then this summer is the time to sell after the season he’s had. Bournemouth allegedly have some interest in Doak so use him as a make weight.
We need to start getting our ducks in a row in relation to both departures and incomings we certainly can’t afford a window like the last two we’ve had.
I feel the likes of Khelleher, Nunez, Jota, Tsimikas, Endo, Doak, Koumas are more than certainly gone this summer.
There’s two windows this summer so I’m hoping we have signed at least three by end of first window ending.
25 Mar 2025 21:09:57
Where have you heard this? Hope we sign Huijsen though as he’s quality.
18 Mar 2025 12:28:52
So any one of
Tchouameni
Cammavinga.
Zubimendi.
Wharton.
Anderson.
Out of them I’d go with Cammavinga simply as I have seen ire of him than the others Tchouameni second.
16 Mar 2025 20:12:39
Huijsen is a far better and cheaper option. He is also much younger with a higher ceiling.
18 Apr 2025 11:29:04
Won’t happen but Wirtz of Leverkusen would be perfect fit.
17 Apr 2025 11:04:21
Fair play to Arsenal beat them well. Can’t stand Madrid at all. Time for the post Mortem, Ancelotti will probably end up sacked now and into the Brazil job.
15 Apr 2025 12:37:01
I believe most likely from above are Huijsen, Kerkez and Cunha.
14 Apr 2025 20:57:08
Simao.
11 Apr 2025 10:28:19
I’d be up for it, if it gives Chiesa a chance to start. We have use him more in the last games of this season.
