Ed02, if I may. Back on May 31 you shared your list of defensive possibilities stating that Gvardiol wasn't going to happen (with other clubs circling him) even though he was Liverpool's preferred choice.

Just out of interest sake, is/ was the reason because of price (other clubs causing an unrealistic auction scenario) or for other unmentioned reasons?

delvecs

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have moved on. Others offer either a significant fee this summer and one has discussed a lower fee and taking him next summer.}

1.) 21 Jun 2023 08:32:25
Off to ManCity.

2.) 21 Jun 2023 09:22:59
Is this a case of being able to buy 2 for the price of 1/ the search for value in an overinflated market Eds?
The question is, Is Gvardiol twice as good as VDV2 or Colwill, whom we could probably both buy for the same price as Gvardiol.
I like the idea of buying Colwill, although I doubt CFC would entertain .

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not one of the clubs who have approached Chelsea about Colwill.}

3.) 21 Jun 2023 10:47:07
Colwill looks a real talent. Apparently Brighton bid £40m but we're told he isn't for sale.

Q for Ed01, if I may.

Do you think that with a fully sorted midfield, there will be less urgency to sort defence?

In other words, do you think the defence's torrid year last year could be at least attributed to that midfield?

I'll take this opportunity to thank you for all the sterling Ed feedback on the site.

Cheers,

delvecs

{Ed001's Note - that is what worries me, is them thinking that way. The biggest issue was the tactics, not the midfield or defence itself. But the defence needs to be sorted for the long term - especially if they decide to stick with this system. We don't have a defender who can operate as needed on the left, nor one that can stay fit on the right.

Getting the midfield sorted will be a help, it will provide more protection to the defence, but it is not the solution to the mess. As I kept saying last year, there is more to it.}

1.) 08 Aug 2023 16:54:37
Thanks Ed. Yes, quite right - tactics is main issue here, not so much the lines.
Cheers and, again, a long overdue thanks for your input and thoughts. Enjoy being here.

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate and good to have you here.}

2.) 08 Aug 2023 17:17:01
Klopp’s tactics have always been risky it’s what makes him as good as he is.

It was only a 4-5 years ago I was being told Klopp couldn’t organise a defence and the high line we adopt is suicidal.

Then we clicked and the rest is history. I’m not concerned about the tactics at all I know we will get it right and when we do we’ll be smashing it.

3.) 08 Aug 2023 17:23:36
I always thought that football was supposed to be simple.

Pretty sure Bob Paisley and the Boot Room boys didn’t spend hours on tactics.

Didn’t they usually spend time on getting in the right players to start with then get them pretty fit and just play 5 a side in training sessions.

Has it all changed because modern day players have been taught not to work it out for themselves on the pitch?

4.) 08 Aug 2023 18:15:50
I agree with you Becker's Pecker! I keep hearing Pep couldn't make it work so Klopp is doomed to failure and basically doesn't know what he's doing tactically.

I counter that and ask could Pep have achieved what Klopp has with the transfer budget he has had and the squad he inherited? Klopp can achieve things Pep can't, not the other way round.

Klopp didn't turn me into a believer until things got a bit tough, then I decide to start a season hoping for top 4, what's that all about (seen a few posters saying this) ?

We are Liverpool and as a supporter of 42yrs I start the season as always believing we can win the lot ?.

5.) 08 Aug 2023 19:58:47
I wish I could remember this great anecdote about Paisley - man of few words - before the 78 European Cup final saying to Kenny something like "their keeper seems to like to leave his goal line" so later Kenny chips him for a goal.

Something like that. Maybe someone here remembers better.

Tactics, huh.

6.) 08 Aug 2023 20:11:02
The midfield was really highlighted last season, even if the defence was at fault it was blamed on the midfield for not covering them. Trent and robbo were poor in parts last season. I'll cut trent a bit of slack with the stupid role he's expected to do on his own at times with elliot supposed to help him, but the sheer lack of grit and graft i can not, atleast robbo is a grafter. vvd was rubbish. Too slow and easily beaten and turning his back on shots instead of probably throwing himself in. Konate was the best cb we had last season but the injuries aren't helping. Gomez was as bad as trent getting beaten at the back post too. remember when we signed him he played lb for a while and was decent. could he not play the lcb role if klopp carries on with his tactic? . We seriously need to buy atleast another cb and either play gomez/ bradley at rb. Move trent into midfield 100%. can't understand why ramsey was sent out on loan now he's fit, looked decent when he played. Not even mentioning matip, his time is up and Joe's on borrowed time. My opion only guys. OR go back to how we used to play.

7.) 08 Aug 2023 21:43:03
Gotta say I mostly agree with that. Let's hope the players can turn back the years and we have a decent season.
If vvd Trent konate and even Robbo have a bad season I genuinely feel like we're doomed. I said over last few daysif the squad stays as it is and no improvement from players I am expecting around 10th place finish.

8.) 08 Aug 2023 23:14:41
Well negative if you expect the worst then you can never be disappointed I guess.

Not sure I’d want you in the trenches with me though.

2.) 24 Jul 2023 21:07:41
Delvecs, oh yes "we" are. Browse thru the threads, man.

3.) 24 Jul 2023 21:33:30
Oli perhaps you should put up some rules that everyone has to follow.

Saves you having to talk Down to everyone then on every post as some kind of super fan.

4.) 25 Jul 2023 03:03:58
Ah, the ‘super fan’ thing is wheeled out yet again, by the usual suspect no less - everyone’s entitled to an opinion except when I disagree at which point we start the name calling and veiled threats, isn’t that right Mr Passive Aggressive? I await the usual response.

5.) 25 Jul 2023 06:03:46
??? Awe that’s cute.

When super fans stick together.

6.) 25 Jul 2023 07:47:26
The best thing about this thread is that the posts directly above it and below it are people panicking ?.

7.) 25 Jul 2023 08:30:13
I see someone else has noticed the "site hard man" slipping into his routine when he sees something he doesn't like.

8.) 25 Jul 2023 08:50:49
Super fans must be like power rangers.

They seem to assemble to make one big super fan.

You probably still watch it on CBeebies hey Flash.

9.) 25 Jul 2023 09:25:39
Sorry what? Power Rangers, what are you talking about? Are you saying you are a Power Rangers super fan? Aren’t you a bit old for that? ???.

10.) 25 Jul 2023 10:53:39
Power Rangers was on Channel 5 not CBeebies.
Or so I'm told.

28 Jun 2023 12:57:09
I know it's silly season but some of us are a bit too hung up about having a banging transfer window, methinks.
Some of the more astute posters here have correctly stated that, even if we did go hardcore, it wouldn't necessarily mean a banging season. Especially since we're tinkering in the engine room.
I think we need to put the KoolAid back in the fridge.

delvecs

1.) 28 Jun 2023 13:19:22
That told them pesky non-astute posters. :)

Looks like every rival is tinkering with their engine room this summer so it’s a level playing field.

2.) 28 Jun 2023 13:24:54
Dear Eds, am I to understand from the above that we are interested in Benjamin Koolaid?

Can he cover multiple positions in midfield, defence and help the scaffolders with the stadium extension?

Will we actually be able to afford the £67m + add ons and his £250k salary?

If we can, why didn't we got for Bellingham? So what if he wanted to join Madrid, we must have been able to persuade/ kidnap him somehow?! After all, he comes from a long line of Liverpool supporters.

#FSGout.

3.) 28 Jun 2023 13:30:59
I really wish I could get this one and say RTFP. But no, this is new . Stand by punters.

4.) 28 Jun 2023 13:31:19
Zed, I thought we were interested in Mbappe for a 300m, according to the non-astute posters on the Tw@tter.

5.) 28 Jun 2023 14:22:13
What makes us posters on here better fans than Tw@tter posters.

I don’t use it but it’s a bit of an Ivory tower look down your nose outlook on it.

6.) 28 Jun 2023 14:37:19
Technically you'd struggle to look DOWN your nose at an ivory tower unless you were either a giant or in a hot air balloon.

Sorry JK23, I just couldn't resist!

7.) 28 Jun 2023 14:44:37
Damn, I misread your reply JK!

Ignore the above (which won't work if there's another post in between! )

8.) 28 Jun 2023 16:49:23
Spot on, JK23

While some individuals may view themselves as "better fans" for not using Twitter*, it is important to remember that the medium itself does not define the quality of our fandom or the depth of our engagement.

Someone might share some info from here on Twitter and make fun of this space by calling it "Liverpool Tumours". Doesn't look good at all. Right!

9.) 28 Jun 2023 18:18:58
Well they've had a full year to sort this summer transfer window and so far got in a good player in macallister. but I'd sooner go hardcore myself pal.

10.) 28 Jun 2023 19:31:00
So you're not hot for Benjamin Koolaid, Magico? He's the Belgian Balotelli. We've nailed a quadrella here.

11.) 28 Jun 2023 20:19:07
Does it really matter if it’s twitter, a fans forum or the front page of a national newspaper if the opinion put forward is gibberish?

12.) 28 Jun 2023 20:54:12
JK, especially from a poster who regurgitates literally everything they are told and doesn’t have a single opinion of their own ??.

13.) 28 Jun 2023 21:04:42
I heard that Liverpool are interested in signing French U21 left back Didier Baptiste from Monaco. Best bs rumour ever.

Rumour: In December, Guardiola's back room staff devised a plan to win the league. Klopp's backroom staff devised a plan for a stonking Christmas party.

Please discuss. Sense of humour essential.

(See you all on the Europa chittering circuit) .

delvecs

1.) 21 May 2023 10:17:29
But a member of LFC staff wrote a best seller ?.

2.) 21 May 2023 10:52:41
Was the plan devised by city before or after the 115 charges?

3.) 21 May 2023 11:14:16
Better yet, said member of staff thought he was suddenly a coaching genius despite empirical evidence showing the opposite is true. Then, wrotexa book about it.

4.) 21 May 2023 11:44:26
I’m guessing Linders to replace Klopp is off the table.

5.) 21 May 2023 12:22:12
But his name is Pep. Isn't he the obvious solution to a self-created problem?

6.) 21 May 2023 12:54:55
It's good that Klopp has his priorities right.
He's already won the League.

7.) 21 May 2023 13:45:12
Hailstones, does it really look to you like it matters? Nobody seems to care that much. Just various people (in authority) going through the motions and justifying their salaries. In the famous words of Ed025, "it'll get swept under the carpet".

8.) 21 May 2023 14:34:22
There 1st argument is the guy pressing the charges is an arsenal fan!?! Not a great opening defence.

9.) 21 May 2023 14:53:15
Fairly weak that, alright, hailstones.

Maybe their plan is to continually frustrate and extend proceedings by bringing up irrelevant crap before getting to their actual argument.

10.) 21 May 2023 15:03:32
We can hope there is justice in the world, but like u guys realistically I know it will probably evaporated into thin air, we can have a little bit of fun with it along the way though.

11.) 21 May 2023 15:06:13
Talksport interviewed some lawyer on Thursday and he said that this could take 2-4 years.

12.) 21 May 2023 15:39:25
Is that the best they could do in dragging it out? Lawyers are usually far better than this.

13.) 21 May 2023 15:50:07
Rigsby, but that is standard procedure for the defendant's legal team to do, really. File a motion to have the case thrown out due to "conflict of interest" or "sentiment of bias" of the judge and/ or the prosecution. Or the standard line from the corrupt Donald Trump legal team, "It's a witch hunt". Im not too surprised about that.

For me no matter how long it will take, City will eventually have their day in court so to speak, and will have any and every opportunity to provide evidence of their innocence or punch holes into the prosecution's arguments. No expiration of statute of limitations on the evidence or none of that stuff is going to help them here so delaying proceedings is futile, IMO.

Now I hope their defence is a lot better than the whole "the Arbiter is an Arsenal fan" cos they didn't seem to have a problem with it in the beginning and most importantly, they had every chance to participate in the investigation and provide evidence which they deliberately made the choice not to engage. We shall see.

14.) 21 May 2023 17:07:36
If it were to believable it think you’d have to say in the summer city were planning on how to retain the title. We were patting ourselves on the back for coming 2nd again. I really hope Klopp and co learn from what happened this season.

15.) 21 May 2023 18:05:26
One kiss
I agree to a certain extent but also we relied on the same core 15/ 16 players all season mate
And played a lot of football I feel the burnout was real . I know people say oh it’s an east excuse to say but football at the highest level is a squad game and unfortunately city’s 2nd team probably still go close to winning everything so having the luxury of a bench worth near 400 mill in quality players is always going to be an advantage come the 2nd half of the season . Just look at Arsenal this season they faded as they couldn’t rest their best

Next season I genuinely think we will have more options and able to rotate more so I see us being able to mount a decent attempt on all fronts .

16.) 21 May 2023 19:08:43
OneKiss, I agree with the overall sentiment you make. We need to learn the lessons from this season and move forward from there. IMO should we win the final game at the Saints, that would be 8 wins out of 11 wit 7 in a row and 3 draws. That's shows that the team srtill has some pride and can still reel off wins when it matters at the business end. This should be the platform the players and coaches can build to go again next season. Just my take.

17.) 22 May 2023 11:09:22
They will invariably drag it out - the interesting thing with this though is that the Premier League investigation cannot be time barred

That seems to be what happened with the UEFA charges the were originally found guilty of - they refused to co-operate with the investigation thus prolonging it. Their appeal, interestingly then, was not over the guilty verdict per se, but that the statute of limitations or what had expired and thus such charges were invalid. They were then fined for their non-co-operation

The Premier League rules apparently have no such time restrictions, so the defence this time will be intriguing. I mean, their opening argument is that the opposing Counsel is an Arsenal fan and thus should be prohibited form participating so who knows how this will go?

The only lesson learnt in this thread is: question Salah at your peril.

Maybe if O2BN had been as measured in his later posts than his baiting first, then this could have been an interesting thread. Now it's just bottom barrelling.

Thoughts as to whether we have, or have not, hit that sweet spot of "player value/ player decline" ratio with Salah? Fair question.

Cobra, as much as Zedd is talking about our unhealthy obsession with Chelsea's FFP status, I think he's also intimating that our destiny is in our hands and we shouldn't get distracted, or use as an excuse, things out of our control.

I hope I'm paraphrasing correctly.

I'm your fan Davey Sulls. Always astute stuff. Always on point. No histrionics.

I put a counter argument to you, Davey.

Yes, salah is incredible, but if he's not played correctly (tactically) then he's just another great player. And we have a few of those. He's certainly not what he was.

If we can sell Salah next year, then we can also sell him now - at a premium price.

Yes, we should buy a DM and a CB, this week, AND could also sell Salah.

And if Salah is going this week (and who knows), I would imagine an in-principle agreement would already be in place now (with utmost secrecy to allow the club to get it's other business sorted) .

And I still think we'd get top 4. We're going to have Brighton-esque year this year.
