Ben Doak signed up. another superb young player aboard.
20 Jan 2022 15:57:41
Fabio Carvalho eds, any chance?
{Ed002's Note - Fabio Carvalho (AM) will be a Free Agent in the summer and has his agents talking to the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid - all of which would be a big step up from Fulham, but all of which have a declared interest. Other clubs such as Liverpool and Wolves have sent scouts to watch him but it has gone no further and Fulham would be very reluctant to deal with Liverpool. The German and Spanish sides are free to negotiate a transfer as a Free Agent for the summer already. The English sides cannot do that until May. Fulham could opt to try to sell this month to ensure that they do not lose out financially. Chelsea would have a significant advantage if he were to be sold in January.}
1.) 20 Jan 2022 17:08:24
We in their bad books from Elliott deal or had blood from Clint Dempsey.
2.) 20 Jan 2022 20:46:50
Well if he doesn't leave this month, come the summer it doesn't really matter whether they want to deal with us r not.
3.) 20 Jan 2022 21:54:56
If he is a free agent in the summer, surely it won’t affect/ impact our poor relationship with Fulham?
{Ed002's Note - Liverpool would then need to wait until May.}
4.) 20 Jan 2022 23:15:14
Ed, this could come across as a bit narky but that’s not my intention, promise!
Is our relationship so bad with Fulham that they wouldn’t take our money now over nothing in summer?
It’s not this potential transfer that has me asking per se, it’s more a fascination with the side of football we rarely get an insight in to. Doesn’t matter how clued up we think we are, the machinations behind the public facade are a mystery to the vast majority of us.
{Ed002's Note - Other sides would be interested if he were available now. They would still like a new contract.}
5.) 21 Jan 2022 09:32:51
Liverpool to buy him and loan him back to Fulham to push for promotion, sounds like a win win situation to me.
6.) 21 Jan 2022 10:42:02
The Dortmund model + some big spends when necessary . Im happy with that model, it is worth more than being just another state owned FC. It also depends on having a generational talent like Klopp at the helm to some extent.
Hope FSG can prove me wrong there.
11 Oct 2021 19:22:25
I see the ghanian kid Abdul Issahaka made his senior International debut the weekend. Do you see us trying to sign him when he turns eighteen?
{Ed002's Note - I thouight Liverpoolk had already signed him and dealt illegally with his agent - hence the interest of FIFA?}
1.) 11 Oct 2021 21:50:49
So he's an Lfc player from when he turns 18 so?
2.) 11 Oct 2021 22:13:04
Not this again.
3.) 12 Oct 2021 00:30:20
ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜.
4.) 12 Oct 2021 09:55:11
Sorry Mark.
31 Aug 2021 19:16:28
Eds with Phillips signing his new contract is there any talk of a loan being sorted tonight?
{Ed002's Note - No, Williams will go and I will expect him to stay after Liverpool failed to find a buyer.}
1.) 31 Aug 2021 20:01:20
ED02 - do i need to stay up until 11pm or later to watch a late transfer in going through. I could do with the sleep.
{Ed002's Note - I rather doubt it at this moment in time.}
2.) 31 Aug 2021 20:10:29
I imagine with Phillips it’s a case of protecting his value and hopefully find a buyer for him next summer.
I really like him, but thought last season would be the perfect springboard his career onto another PL team.
3.) 31 Aug 2021 20:44:38
But if he doesn't play his value will only decline. Sounds negative but its the truth.
4.) 31 Aug 2021 21:13:53
It depends on where your priorities lie.
Considering how short we found ourselves last season (hopefully a one off) I think having Philips on board is a sound idea. He's at his dream club, I don't think he'll be worrying too much about his value dropping.
5.) 31 Aug 2021 22:33:18
Very very disappointing window for LFC.
6.) 31 Aug 2021 22:46:29
Yea, instead of being short/ light at the back we’re now short/ light up front. I seem to remember the front 3 struggling at least as much as our defence last season. Seems like we’re willing to gamble on this season like we did last.
7.) 01 Sep 2021 01:55:29
You don’t think that part of the problem was the lack of a defence - the supply from the back dropped in quality and frequency?
Or that our two most effective midfielders were forced to play as makeweight centre halves so that not only the defence and I’d field were both weakened?
Or that one of the front three had C.V. (maybe long C.V.? ) and that Jota took a while to settle in and had an injury or two himself?
Easier to say they are all past it I guess?
8.) 01 Sep 2021 07:50:30
This will give minamini and ox to get some much nedded gametime.
9.) 01 Sep 2021 09:09:40
I think we have what it takes to 'challenge' in all competitions, provided we do not have major injuries like we had last season. That being said, most of our main competitors are strengthening but we just added Konate. Yes, we have Elliot, we have Ox and Minamino back. but the problem is we're not sure if they will step up or not, even if given the chance to play. Hopefully they will and it'll be a masterstroke by Klopp and FSG. Otherwise, we'll regret not signing another attacker or midfielder this window. Oh well. there's always that January transfer window if we really need someone.
{Ed001's Note - van Dijk and Matip back too.}
10.) 01 Sep 2021 09:53:12
I distinctly remember Mané and Firmino struggling to put away the most simplest of chances. That has nothing to do with defenders missing or midfielders playing outta position.
Jota didn’t take a while to settle in. He hit the ground running and was one of our best players early last season. His injury knocked his momentum. Don’t see how that impacts Mané and Firminos finishing ability and decision making in the final third which at times was appalling.
11.) 01 Sep 2021 14:12:37
Firmino's finishing ability is mid-table capability.
Without Salah's contribution, Liverpool will also have be mid-table, juts like Firmino.
Often said that Firmino's greatest contribution is linking up play, and not necessarily scoring.
The same was said of Heskey, linking up playing, holding the ball, occupying the defenders, defending from the font.
Bottom line, no.9 need to be like a no.9.
They need to score goals, like a Haaland.
If he could fetch us some money, I would have upgrade on him.
{Ed001's Note - and yet Owen will tell you that playing alongside Heskey increased his goal tally massively.}
12.) 01 Sep 2021 14:28:51
Waynechai, Salah himself has said multiple times along with Mane that without Bobbie facilitating them over the years, they would not be anywhere near the players they have become so how has Bobbie done all he has done if he was a mistake player?
“A goal scorer needs to score goals†if that was the case then your beef is with Klopp who discarded Benteke and let Studge go and chose to keep Bobbie? And comparing a true baller like Bobbie to Heskey sums up your rant perfectly.
Lastly, I propose you read the response Ed01 made to your comment. Priceless.
13.) 01 Sep 2021 20:20:36
Mid table capability striker who scored the goal that finally bagged Liverpool the World Club trophy.
Wayne if you think Liverpool should be ditching Firmino in favour of a "traditional no 9" then you've got no idea of how Klopp wants his team to play.
14.) 01 Sep 2021 22:48:00
A lot of people forgetting that the disjointed nature of defence meant the midfield (missing fab for most of it) was pulled back to provided added cover. Same for the front 3, they were often dragged back to create openings which made our attacks slow, predictable and ineffective.
It’ll be much different this year.
15.) 02 Sep 2021 09:57:50
Our 2 full backs were covering 2 inexperienced centre backs instead of joining the attack, that definitely had an impact on the front 3.
27 Jun 2021 19:09:09
Burnley making a move for Phillips Eds? Great move for him.
{Ed002's Note - Nat Phillips (CB) Burnley are keen and Liverpool will look to cash in and hang on to Matip which seems like a short-term plan to me. Liverpool need to be careful over the asking price as they are now smarting from rejections from other clubs for players where they asre asking too much.}
1.) 27 Jun 2021 19:29:30
Ah by the time Matip goes Sepp VDB will be ready! perfect forward planning.
2.) 27 Jun 2021 19:52:00
Hope Philips goes on to great things! He was a Trojan for us I wish him nottin but the best!
3.) 27 Jun 2021 19:55:34
Not if we get injuries to Matip, Gomez, Konate and VVD, which is not beyond the realms of possibilities given last season and the injury records of messers Matip, Gomez and Konate. I think we’d be truly up sh*t creak without a paddle. Matip should be the one moving on. I’ll wager that Phillips will be flogged by Burnley in a couple of years time for £40m while we’re still rolling our eyes at Matip injuring himself tying his shoelaces in the warm up and missing half the season for it.
4.) 27 Jun 2021 20:00:05
Hope he has a great career. but that will only be possible if he makes a move! And we need the money its a win win.
5.) 27 Jun 2021 21:01:10
Jadon we need rid of Matip he’s a flake that’s what we need!
6.) 27 Jun 2021 21:13:32
I know that it’s pretty conclusive on these boards that we should sell Matip and keep Phillips - I agree too.
However, Klopp is quite adamant that he won’t sell Matip - the Ed’s have said so before.
It’s was interesting to hear that Matip is one of the leaders in the dressing room, and I don’t think any of us would argue that the only ability that Phillips shades over Matip is availability.
I’m therefore happy for Phillips to move on. I don’t think he’s a £40m player and his price won’t probably be higher than it is now. Thank you Nat and good luck for the future ðŸ‘
Btw, I can also see Van Den Berg stepping in when Matip leaves.
7.) 27 Jun 2021 21:19:55
Selling Philips would be a huge oversight, he seems pretty robust and we need a CB who stays fit. Honestly I am unsure ether Joe, Matip and VVD will be ready for the start in August, Philips has played so many games for us and I for one would feel very relieved seeing him start with Konate if our main CB aren't fit and aren't at risk of injury.
8.) 27 Jun 2021 21:30:26
Unfortunately we need the money and I agree his value is now at its highest. Klopp must be confident in his cb’s if he authorised the sale.
9.) 27 Jun 2021 21:32:15
To be a good professional footballer availability is definitely a trait required.
10.) 27 Jun 2021 21:35:45
Mark my words, two or three years of being Burnley’s defensive rock will earn him a big money move. There’s still a very competitive market for big English centre backs who stick their head on anything and have a slightly more agricultural approach, see Tarkowski, Keane, Mings et al.
11.) 27 Jun 2021 22:06:07
Why do Liverpool constantly balls up sales of players by over pricing them? It happens every season🤷â€â™‚ï¸.
{Ed025's Note - its called greed barry mate..
12.) 27 Jun 2021 22:06:22
Matip is world class when fit, and likely not on huge wages, PLUS he was free. He makes sense as a back up/ rotation player as he is quite brilliant.
As for over pricing players, Edwards is going to need to bite the bullet a little in these times as we really do need a big clear out. JK has 3 years left and will not renew. If we want him to build the next phase of his LFC legacy before he leaves we need to be efficient and ruthless in the market.
{Ed025's Note - matip has never and will never be world class spaceman, a total flake who is out for 3 months with a headache mate...total fraud..
13.) 27 Jun 2021 21:47:28
Ed’s do you think it’s a case of no one is interested in matip or klopp doesn’t want to sell?
{Ed025's Note - there is definitely interest SR...from doctors studying hypochondria mate.. :)
14.) 27 Jun 2021 22:08:47
Hope the club have the foresight to include a 25% sell on clause then VVVV.
15.) 27 Jun 2021 22:37:36
All the best to him. Most improved player and biggest shock this season. Could be a move we come to regret but like the posters say we need the dosh.
16.) 28 Jun 2021 00:25:51
Spaceman is correct, Matip is a brilliant player, definitely one of the best cbs in Europe. Not his fault he keeps getting injured.
{Ed077's Note - you aren't serious right??
17.) 28 Jun 2021 01:02:30
Premier league is the best league. and WHEN FIT Matip is in the top handful of centrehalfs in it! top player despite what Mr Bitter says. dats why phillips has to move.
18.) 28 Jun 2021 02:31:48
If I knew that Matip was going to be injured for the next 2 years, I'd still prefer we sell Nat in the hope he finds a home as one of 2 first choice CBs and grow into his full potential.
19.) 28 Jun 2021 06:47:26
Can we see this from Phillips point of view? Phillips has had a taste of first team football so probably doesn't want to be 4th or 5th choice.
Let the lad go and have a decent career hopefully. We can reinvest the money elsewhere.
As for matip, he's definitely not world class and is probably our 3rd best defender, 4th if konate lives up to the hype. But he is great cover and due to his injury record, he's good for that role.
20.) 28 Jun 2021 08:03:24
Phillips is championship quality with the heart of a balon dor winner. Hope he smashes it wherever he goes but im not sure he's good enough for Liverpool.
21.) 28 Jun 2021 08:13:01
I totally agree B teeth.
22.) 28 Jun 2021 09:15:32
Phillips did well for us this season, and have proven quality at least over a short time. However I think we keep hearing about the emerging issue of HG quota. wouldn't Philips, Jones and maybe Willams be the ones to keep to bolster that quota?
23.) 28 Jun 2021 09:27:06
Matip is a top cb when fit, easily in the top 10 in Europe for me, I don't get people some days, he was absolutely quality alongside vvd when he was sound and fit, but granted those days are few and far between now, think ill have the opinion of my own eyes that watch every single game as opposed to a fan of another club who sees us now and then ;)
Phillips won't get many games if that lot are fit, good luck to the lad I say.
24.) 28 Jun 2021 10:12:28
U have to play to be the best a good game here and there doesn’t cut it! Matip is a joke along with Keita and a few other sick notes they need to be sold!
No more of this sentimental Carry on we seen what it done to us last season! Same 14/ 15 players dragging us through while the sick notes claim their thousands a wk and have there calf’s rubbed by Lisa in the physio room!
25.) 28 Jun 2021 10:32:02
There’s no doubt about the fact that Matip is a quality centre back when fit (NOT world class, that’s just ridiculous hyperbole), but there’s the caveat WHEN FIT. He’s injured more often than not so can’t be relied upon either as a starter or back up, I’m pretty sure he’s injured himself once during a warm up before a match, so really the sensible thing would be to move on the injury prone foreign player and keep the more durable home grown player.
26.) 28 Jun 2021 10:33:59
Matip is quality when fir, his fitness is his only issue, he’d walk in to almost every premier league team, as fans were quick to jump on his and Gomez back, both are top defenders and at the higher end of the spectrum when it comes to premier league defenders.
27.) 28 Jun 2021 10:42:52
No idea how some people think an injury prone player suits being backup - we really needed him last season but again he was hardly ever available. Yes he is very good but he's injured far too often.
28.) 28 Jun 2021 12:04:05
I'd opt to keep Phillips. No idea why we'd sell someone like him.
{Ed002's Note - Because Klopp wants to keep Matip and Liverpool need to raise funds.}
29.) 28 Jun 2021 13:04:30
Philips is also limited in his passing ability and not quick, he does not fit in with our style of play at all.
The 4 remaining CBs are about the best in the PL as a collective in my view.
Phillips did well to stand in like he did but I have always felt it’s best all round that he moves on.
30.) 28 Jun 2021 13:26:05
I don't get klopp back klopp himself was a player like philips. He saved our season last year. This is ridiculous
I have a shambles feeling about next season. Something is not right at liverpool. I have had this feeling since the esl fiasco. Something is very off.
31.) 28 Jun 2021 14:51:03
It took longer than I thought lol. Welcome back Harry.
32.) 28 Jun 2021 14:59:39
In fairness I have never seen anyone play with the passion and commitment towards the badge, if we had 11 players with Nats passion we'd win the premier League every year. For that reason alone he deserves a longer shot and for all the other reasons.
33.) 28 Jun 2021 16:19:06
Ed25 Everton have been a fraud for the last 30 odd years, yet the bitters still pipe up.
{Ed025's Note - bitters is not nice MR, you only call us that because we tell the truth about your lot mate..
34.) 29 Jun 2021 15:54:33
Sell Matip n keep Phillips. Matip can't play two consecutive games, the guy's made of plastic.
35.) 30 Jun 2021 11:00:11
ED25, so how does Matip having a poor injury record, have anything to do with his ability as a footballer? You do know that those are two separate thing, correct? Not saying he is world class BUT this strange notion that cos a player has a poor injury record means he is useless in terms of ability is just insane. Thoughts, Ed25?
{Ed025's Note - i did not say he was a bad player oli, hes decent enough but his injury record is woeful so not a viable option in my view mate..
36.) 02 Jul 2021 09:19:10
Selling Philips makes sense. He's shown the world he's good enough for a Premier League team, but realistically he'll spend next season not even warming up the bench with Gomez/ vanDijk/ Konate/ Matip rotating major league and cup games. Fabinho and Rhys Williams (who has also done well) will probably be more than enough CB cover in a non-freak season, you simply can't plan everything around the possibility of two first teams' worth of CBs getting injured all at once. Philips deserves a shot at a permanent CB spot in another PL team, in my humble opinion - and the money we'll collect from the sale will be hugely important in strengthening other areas of the team.

Jesus, a team had to come up with 3 goals in the last 15 mins to stop us winning it!

Really can't see Nunez not starting against Fulham, guys a handful.
24 Jul 2022 23:01:38
Suppose, have to prepare him for the likes of Grealish and Harry Winks! At least he doesn't have to face joe allen at stoke on a cold wednesday night.
24 Jul 2022 20:50:44
You honestly think Juve would go to the bother of making a formal offer to the club without knowing if Bobby was interested in the move or not?
24 Jul 2022 19:37:44
Is it true Juve have made a formal offer to the club? if so Bobby must at least have some interest in the move.
