A question for the eds or anyone else that might have seen him play, Awoniyi, i've just seen he's been granted a work permit for next season, is he expected to leave or be a part of the squad? Has anyone seen him play while he's been on loan? I don't know a great deal about this lad at all, any info?

Rum Lad

{Ed002's Note - Taiwo Awoniyi (S) Doing pretty well in Germany and a buyer will be able to be found there at the right price - and Union Berlin are open to taking him but say Liverpool will need to halve their asking price.}

1.) 18 May 2021 10:35:35
He was once seen as a future star in the game when he helped Nigeria to the u17 world cup whilst he himself was still only 15.

He's never really settled anywhere since with Liverpool packing him off on various loans across Europe with little regard or plan for his future.

Seems to have finally found a club that he fits at this time so hopefully Liverpool do the right thing and let him go for a reasonable price, instead of wrecking his career further.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have asked for €10M from UB.}

2.) 18 May 2021 11:04:49
10 mil? Geez i was expecting you to say 5 mil and Union would be getting a fair price for half of that.

3.) 18 May 2021 10:51:28
Thanks for the responses, another one on the list of messed about young players then, its a habit it seems with us.

4.) 18 May 2021 12:15:13
Hows he been messed around? He's picked up some great experience in different leagues. The lack of a work permit hasn't helped.

5.) 18 May 2021 13:08:08
We allegedly turned down £5m from Anderlecht.

6.) 18 May 2021 13:24:50
If he is good why don't we give him a go?

7.) 18 May 2021 15:43:20
He hasn't picked up great experience though. He was sent to Frankfurt, then Nijmegen, the Mouscron, then Gent, then Mouscron again, then Mainz, and finally Union Berlin. 6 different clubs in 7 seasons across 4 different leagues.

He's never been allowed time to settle because he's basically been sent to whoever paid the highest loan fee or offered the quickest solution. He's never been goven a chance in pre-season or for the reserve teams etc.

He was basically an after thought who's had minimsl resources afforded to managing his career, who Liverpool have held back from getting a transfer by over pricing a player we never had any intention of utilising.

His career epitomises everything wrong with the loan market. He's just shy of 24 years old and he's barely played 100 games in his career because no club has had any reason to persevere with him or invest their own time and energy into him.

I love Liverpool but sometimes you have to call a duck a duck. The clubs let him down.

8.) 18 May 2021 17:13:06
How could he be given a chance without a work permit? Why do people go out of their way to find negativity regarding the club. And if he's only played 100 games that's down to no one else but himself. Seems to be a player that hits purple patches followed by barren spells. Of course a club will persevere with and invest their own time in a player, if he's deemed important enough to them. don't forget these clubs do want him at their club, we don't force him upon them.

9.) 18 May 2021 18:29:34
Okay Jadon. Put yourself in his shoes. 6 times in 7 years he's had to uproot his entire life. Make new friends. Learn a new style of play. Learn a new language.

And for what? What was the plan from Liverpool? There was never any promise of ever getting a chance because as you said he had no work permit. So why did we continue to hold him at the club when their were offers on the table? Would you be happy to be sent off to work in 6 different cities in 7 years with no clarity on what the long term goal was? Or even what your future was within that company? Would you be happy if that company then held you back from changing to a new job where you would be more valued/ important? No you wouldn't.

Why do people act like footballers aren't real people. A loan deal in real life isn't as simple as it is in a video game. You don't see all the hassle it causes the player. To have it happen 7 times in 7 years changing club each time, without any consistency is genuinely negligent in my opinion. I'm not looking for a negative. Search my post history and you'll see i've been very outspoken regarding my hatred of the loan system for the 10 years i've posted here. Liverpool aren't the only culprits.

{Ed0666's Note - at his age if someone was paying me circa 20 large a week to play football every year in 7 different countries, learn new languages and immerse myself in 7 different cultures and let’s face it all those women from all types of places I wouldn’t be complaining too loudly. Hell I would do it now.

10.) 18 May 2021 18:49:50
What Ed said.

11.) 18 May 2021 19:51:53
Ed0666, but you're talking from a position with everything to gain. Awoniyi probably had aspirations of a successful career. Also, go ask Gary Speed if money and fame is all you need to be happy. That's a very ignorant view from you, by your lofty standards. Anybody who thinks we haven't messed him about is kidding themselves out of blind loyalty to Liverpool. I hate the loan system and i wish they'd put a cap on the number of players over the age of 21 that you can loan out so clubs were more responsible with players careers. Big clubs just hoard players.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m assuming you are not coming from an informed position MK. Maybe he was a disruptive influence hence his plethora of moves? Maybe he didn’t fit into certain environments? Maybe he wanted the moves? There’s a lot of variables to loans or maybe he wasn’t related by the academy coaches or the under 23 coaches and they wanted to ship him out to gain experience. I certainly don’t know the ins and outs of this particular situation, I’m merely expressing that if this experience was to befall me at the age the respective player is I wouldn’t be too perturbed.

12.) 18 May 2021 20:18:59
Fair enough mate. I'll agree to disagree. At the end of his career, he'll regret signing for Liverpool as it stands, in my opinion. I'm sure he's made plenty of money and if that's enough for him, then fair enough. All i'm saying is he could've earned plenty of money at one club and potentially progressed as a player to achieve more in the game, and naturally he would then earn more too. I don't believe the current loan system safeguards young players well enough. Maybe Awoniyi is the type of guy to embrace the hand he's dealt and not dwell on what could've been. But a lot of players get lost in the loan system and struggle with their mental health after their careers because they fell from the top or know they could've done more. I'm not trying to be anti-Liverpool. I just hate the loan system. I wouldn't even care if they scrapped it entirely. Maybe i'm viewing it with slight tunnel vision in this instance, as becoming a dad at 21, i'd have been fuming if work had me moving my young family here, there and everywhere with no end in sight. I'd still like Liverpool to do better. I'd rather we set the standard of looking after our players careers, and that might even make us more attractive to the best young talent. No offence intended to you or Jadon Havertz. I didn't mean my last post to sound so prickly.

13.) 18 May 2021 20:56:12
If he'd done enough at any of his loans then one of the clubs would have made a decent offer which Lfc felt reflected his value. Or another team lookin on, but no one has.

14.) 18 May 2021 21:02:36
Did he sign a 7 year contract at 17? 6 loans in 7 years quite possibly means he signed a 2nd contract at Liverpool at some stage. If he's being messed about at the club why would he extend his contract?

15.) 18 May 2021 22:43:57
He has had a number of injuries that have stuffed up a few of his seasons which hasn't helped. But Id have to agree with MK that we couldve done better with him.

16.) 19 May 2021 08:06:16
So scrap the loan system to have him sitting in the hors d’oeuvres for 7 years until his contract runs out and he’s cast off like a piece of rubbish? I’m sure he’d rather be out there playing wouldn’t he?

17.) 19 May 2021 08:41:25
Beckers peckers, if the loan system was refined then teams wouldn't hoard players. I don't want it scrapped entirely. I want a cap on how many aged 21 and over players a club can loan out at one time. Force these powerhouses to let players leave and push on in their careers. Either that or give them a chance in the first team. There is a cap on how many players you can loan in, but not on how many you can loan out. It's wrong in my opinion. It's a way for clubs to get away with false promises to masses of young players and not have to suffer the consequences.

18.) 19 May 2021 09:32:24
I’ve never sat in hors d’oeuvres before BP.

Sure, I’ve lounged in a few desserts and jogged through plenty of main courses, but I have never, even sat in hors d’oeuvres.

What’s it like? Does it leave you wanting more?

19.) 19 May 2021 21:20:13
MK back to your old self I see. Talking claptrap and using some of what the Ed’s say to get favour again. This time you are using the fact Ed says Liverpool do not have great loan system and doesn’t have much of a plan or aftercare.

You don’t know anything about the loan move in question. You don’t know the lad or the situation. You are merely speaking from a position of ignorance but in belief of what you want to hear.

And for you to mention Gary speed is an absolute insult to him and his family. To link these together is disgusting. I don’t normally post but can’t let you get away with this. Engage your brain before typing. And stop parroting what you hear from the Ed’s.

P. s take an extended break again. Cloggin up the site with your nonsense. Your opinion is no more valid than anyone else. And it doesn’t make you right even if you text it.

Grow up and get a life!

20.) 19 May 2021 23:14:23
MK - what didn't we do to secure his WP?

21.) 20 May 2021 06:23:01
liverpool are no different from any other club on this topic.

22.) 20 May 2021 12:54:48
Bit extreme TelNewport, to say the least fella.
MK has been contributing on this site for years. I don't its for you to tell anyone to take any breaks.

Just some perspective.
When Klopp came in nobody really knew If he could take us back to challenging for the league, let alone get to multiple Champions league finals etc, but he did and with some of the bravest attacking football we've seen for many a year.

Now whether it was going to be leaked out or not I was against the announcement about him leaving, I personally thought it would derail us eventually and maybe that pressures showing now, but, let's not forget the ride he's given us, Im ready for a new man in and new tactics after these last few games, I think we're genuinely ready for it, but let's see off a man whose attached his whole being to the city with fond memories and decorum.

I've been through my dad dying, a marriage break up and some mental health issues all in the space of 9 months and this site (whether I like a moan or not) has been a little saviour for me, especially in the live chat right throughout it all. I've followed this site for a lot of years and I know how people really feel about Jurgen Klopp, he's one of us, a man of the people and a true humanitarian, a manager who we needed who would understand the club, the supporters and the city, and he did, with flying colours.

He looks tired and frustrated to me and I know myself that when the dark clouds descend its hard to stave them off, but much like I know with my own issues the support of this fanbase can give you rays of sunlight you never thought were there.

6 games, let's see him off and thank him for the good times, win lose or draw, cause let's face it, its been one hell of a ride
YNWA.

Nice post Rum Lad and brave of you to share your struggles. It's different for everybody of course but 5 years ago I lost my mum, a close friend and my wife got diagnosed with cancer within a year.

I'll be captain obvious here but eating well and exercising helped me a tonne. Get the body in shape and somehow the mind starts to follow. I also told my work I was struggling and that was the second best thing I did as they were very understanding and helped out a lot.

You can think you re mentally tough but when the crap hits the fan in life it gets to absolutely everybody. No one is immune. So I hear you big time buddy.

Hang in there and life turns a corner. Of course you'll never stop missing your loved ones but we bought our first house and just finished renovation, wife is approaching five years all clear, our kids are thriving. The clouds have cleared and I ve become a super positive person I naturally am. I ll never take my mental health for granted ever again though so I do my best to look after it and do things I enjoy as much as possible. Like write crazy posts on here. It will turn for you buddy. I know it.

As for Klopp. He is an absolute legend for us all. Nothing he could do from here on out could tarnish his legacy. It is well and truly cemented.

2.) 19 Apr 2024 22:39:55
Great post and great poster Rum.

{Ed025's Note - i agree JK, one of the best posts i have ever read on here mate..

3.) 19 Apr 2024 23:07:49
I agree with the sentiment Rum but I don’t agree with you saying the announcement of him leaving is why we’ve lost a couple of games.

It’s football and teams go through poor spells of form. It’s more likely it’s getting to the end of the season and glory is in sight and they’ve tightened up a bit. That’s all it takes.

I’m getting slightly annoyed with people saying Klopp’s tenure might end in a whimper. It already hasn’t! He’s given us one last title challenge before he goes, we are 2 points off with 6 games to go. I don’t know about anyone else but before he arrived I’d forgotten what a title challenge looked like. We had a freak season in 2014 where we were close buts that was about it since 1990!

Now we all seem to take it for granted and get annoyed and start blaming everyone down to the tea lady if we don’t win it! Get a grip people!

Klopp has been immense and we have been so, so fortunate to have him. I will be eternally grateful to Klopp for putting us back to the top of the game because before he arrived we were bang average and going backwards.

4.) 19 Apr 2024 23:22:42
get annoyed and start blaming everyone down to the tea lady if we don’t win it! Get a grip people!

Didn’t you blame match going fans the other day.

Practice what you preach.

And if that slightly annoys you some more then who cares posters aren’t here to tip toe around you.

5.) 19 Apr 2024 23:39:25
An excellent post that mate.

6.) 20 Apr 2024 02:18:43
“Practice what you preach” never was a truer old chestnut more accurate.

7.) 20 Apr 2024 02:26:43
Great post Rum mate. And sorry to hear you had to go through all of that within such a short space of time.

8.) 20 Apr 2024 04:59:19
Great post rum, glad to hear you’re getting there. Ynwa.

9.) 20 Apr 2024 06:18:04
Excellent post Red Rum and sorry for all you are going through. Klopp’s leaving us for a well deserved rest. He’s not looked the same for a while but with everything he’s given to us it’s hardly a surprise. I think we’re all going to miss him a lot.

10.) 20 Apr 2024 08:18:07
Great post mate. Awful to hear how much you’ve been tested. Keep going mate, ynwa.

19 Aug 2023 15:20:23
Endo might actually be a decent player, his Bundesliga stats say and as he's Japan captain that means he brings some leadership to the group.

And maybe we've got our eye on a couple of DM's and he's the cheaper of the two?
Maybe he's someone who will stem the tide before Bajcetic becomes the main DM.
Only time will tell but giving him pelters before he's shown what he can do is embarrassing.

Rum Lad

1.) 19 Aug 2023 21:25:26
I thought he was very steady when he came on today.

03 Mar 2023 20:37:54
Nicky Butt and Rio Ferdinand both in the media saying utd have gone past us and Bellingham should go to them and not us.
Aye ok Rio, back are ya? Now I admit we've not been at our best this year, far from it and we definitely need a few players but gone past us? We were on for 4 last year and that included the champions league not the not quite good enough, thursday night cup.
I think on the face of it with some ageing players and an almighty effort last season we're steadily doing better than we were and still have a good chance of top 4.
We're in a far better place facilities wise than they are and if the owners do get the wallet out then I see no reason for us not to back up and running next season.
You'd think they'd had enough egg on their faces this last few years.
Up the reds, bring on the mancs.

Rum Lad

1.) 03 Mar 2023 21:38:31
remains to be seen if they sustain it, but and good on them if they do. They would have earned it.
But I think for Rio, Scholes et al any sign of bring back the glory years is what will get their juices flowing. I don't blame them lol.

2.) 03 Mar 2023 22:40:48
Much as I hate to say it, their purchase of an ageing but class midfielder has paid off much better than ours did - Casemiro is proving to be a better purchase for them than Thiago had for us. We’re a worse team when Thiago plays but Casemiro has dragged United back into contention.

{Ed025's Note - Casemiro has been excellent for united johnny, he has made a massive difference to them mate you are right..

3.) 03 Mar 2023 22:42:21
Ex united players want Bellingham to join united. No surprises there.

{Ed025's Note - and why wouldn,t they davey?, the guy looks a class act mate and i would imagine all the big teams will be trying to get him..

4.) 03 Mar 2023 22:25:51
Good on them if the do! How old are you? I could not think of many things worse.

5.) 03 Mar 2023 22:44:24
And no doubt someone will have some lovely stats to try and prove that we’re better with Thiago in the team but in my opinion we look weaker when he plays, especially so this season.

{Ed025's Note - Thiago needs players with legs around him johnny, and im afraid that fab and hendo are performing like a couple of pensioners which makes him as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike mate..

6.) 03 Mar 2023 23:22:08
I actually wonder do half of the people making some of these comments actually watch liverpool play. Thiago needs players who do the donkey work around him, but unfortunately the fall off from hendo and fab has left him exposed abit, it was abs class last season when were chasing everything.

7.) 03 Mar 2023 23:25:12
Johnny this season we’ve looked poor with and without Thiago in the team.

Last season we looked good with and without Thiago in the team.

But you could change Thiago’s name for a number of players and come to the same outcome.

I Think that’s the fairest way to sum it up without using stats mate.

8.) 04 Mar 2023 07:29:47
Bit of a double edged sword with Thiago. He’s obviously class and our best midfielder when fit, controlling games and putting his foot defensively in more often that I think people realise. If we are going back to the high press though I don’t think there’s a place for him in the squad. Can see him going back to Barcelona this summer.

It ironic, Iv been calling for more creative midfielders and attack minded midfielders for years. We finally have some (Elliot, Carvalho, Thiago) and it isn’t working. Guess that why Klopp is a manager and I’m not! Where’s that Dutch lad I never really rated. Get him back ??.

9.) 04 Mar 2023 08:09:02
The last time I checked Thiago had 2 goals and 4 assists in his LFC career. I mean it’s not great for the player that was meant to unlock those stubborn defences. A good player in the right team but unfortunately we are in limbo between how we played before and how we are trying to play now.

10.) 04 Mar 2023 08:12:15
Rio is a class A idiot. He has said United are back about a 1000 times! Can't stand him. One of the worst pundits about! Not a nice guy either, only have to look at what he did to his now deseased Mrs. Horrible.

11.) 04 Mar 2023 09:02:44
Statistically Thiago is our best midfielder and there’s no question that he’s technically our best footballer. Problem is that he’s not the quickest or most physical and he’s playing in a midfield that lacks any dynamism, pace or physicality so his shortcomings as a player are brutally exposed. If he had two quick, physically imposing, defensively sound, dynamic players alongside him there’d be no discussion about him. As it is, the failure to adequately address the midfield over the years has caused this.

12.) 04 Mar 2023 09:56:47
Flavour of the month. The tide of public perception will be fickle as usual and do a 180 once Casemiro’s legs catch up with him. And it will happen.
The key will be whether Ten Hag is smarter than Klopp to keep the midfield refreshed while that happens. Muse and is yea he will.

13.) 04 Mar 2023 09:57:15
It's quite simple with Thiago i think. He's our best midfielder on pure ability however we signed a player who is world class in a 2 man midfield, but just a good player in a midfield 3.

At Bayern playing in a 2 with Kimmich etc he was probably one of the best in Europe. Muller playing ahead of him as a number 10 worked so well because Thiago found him early from deep, no matter how much you pressed him, and then chipped in with the dirty work too.

In our 3 man midfield he's expected to basically play in a box to box press and although he still does it as well as anyone else in our team currently (not as well as Hendo and Milner did in their pomp), it's just a waste of his quality as a deep lying playmaker and not something he's world class at. It's like signing Pirlo and asking him to press.

14.) 04 Mar 2023 10:25:06
Aren't Utd still in the hunt for 4 this season?

15.) 04 Mar 2023 12:02:10
Utd are the in-form team in Europe at the moment. As we know though, form is temporary.

16.) 04 Mar 2023 12:06:21
Totally agree MK. Thiago is immense and if played correctly he adds class to the midfield. Just a shame he has no one decent to play with now! It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer. I've never been a Morton fan, just don't think he's good enough.

17.) 04 Mar 2023 12:17:05
United manager ten green bottles has touched lucky because LFC, man city not fireing on all cylinders this season and he has been able to capitalise on that .
Come next season god willing we and city will be back to our best and all other teams will sus united out so let's see if they ae back?

18.) 04 Mar 2023 16:21:32
Looked at the league table earlier, genuinely couldn't believe it when i noticed Liverpool with their ragtag defence and the excellently organised utd have conceded the exact same amount of goals in the league this year, and that utd with Rashford up for the B'allon D'or have scored only ONE, yes one more goal than Liverpool with Mo and Darwin who can't hit a barn door. Hadnt checked in a while, was genuinely surprised was expecting them to be well ahead in both counts. Think it just shows how close we still are despite being absolutely atrocious this season. Let the utd hype train continue lads, and let Rio crap outa him he's only suffering because he knows Judes a red next season.

19.) 04 Mar 2023 19:09:40
I was over the moon when we signed Thiago TBH so I'm not slagging him off for laughs, he's a great player but he just doesn't work in this team, he's effectively made us worse since we won the league. No-one's fault but it's obvious Klopp teams work better with a 'boring' functional midfield and a very dynamic attack. I love that we tried to change it up a bit but that experiment seems to have failed in some way. Good job I'm no manager either though.

20.) 05 Mar 2023 09:27:18
Rio and Butt are just there to provide the good vibes to their fan base to make them forget that they have won as much as I have in FIVE years whereas, we have cleaned up during the same period despite them outspending us by 2 to 1 in the same period. It’s all a deflection tactic. They have done well and that is to their credit. Nothing more. Nothing less.

As for Thiago, MK is spot on even tho, Thiago has shown his ability to adapt and press as we saw last season. If you put the kegs next to Thiago, there is none better than him in the way he plays in the PL, imo and the games are there to prove it if people actually bothered to check. The problem was either Fab’s and Hendo’s legs fell off, Naby couldn’t be arsed to stay fit or no midfielders were signed except Arthur. None of that is Thiago’s fault. You prolly want to look elsewhere for that and NO, it’s not the owners who provide funds yet they aren’t being spent.

21.) 05 Mar 2023 09:55:58
Congratulations Oli on winning the League cup in the last 5 years. Some achievement that.

14 Jan 2023 20:58:43
Honestly, I'd play two young uns with legs right now with Thiago, 2 who will just run and run, Bajcetic and maybe bring Morton back, its legs we need and maybe the willingness and energy of youth can help us out of a hole, it can not be worse than watching Henderson and Fab running through treacle.
I definitely would not play Elliot in midfield ever again, In fact Id play Trent there over him and give Ramsay a look at the back too, how different can it be? Im not sure but I do remember a certain utd resorting to kids in desperate times, look how that turned out.
All I do know is groundhog day needs a reset and quick.

Rum Lad

1.) 14 Jan 2023 22:19:51
I wouldn’t be playing Thiago a massive part of the problem.

2.) 14 Jan 2023 22:25:30
Good post. I exaggeratedly said earlier tonight that Klopp should play the under 21s, but I agree with you. Don't forget Doak.

3.) 14 Jan 2023 22:38:24
Thiago is a fantastic footballer, but not right for LFC and Klopp's style of play. Just my opinion.

4.) 14 Jan 2023 22:42:23
I share your opinion Stone.

5.) 15 Jan 2023 00:37:53
Morton, Bajcetic and Doak?
Changing the players for the sake of changing the players is not going to work.
That was my first eleven today and they were awful but I would have to go with them again because they are the first eleven.
The changes were even more awful and we looked worse after, if that were possible.

6.) 15 Jan 2023 07:16:50
Don't get the Morton hype? He's looked pretty average when I've seen him play for us. One for the future maybe but he's not going to save us. I'm praying Klopp will get this right. He's the man who can. ynwa.

7.) 15 Jan 2023 07:56:02
Nope, I disagree Stone. Thiago is perfect fir our style cos we Samir work fir the most part last season. The reason he is failing now (like everyone else) is that we have NO legs around him to help do the running to the pint that he has to do the running on his own, snap into tackles and then orchestrate all by himself with Hendo going AWOL like he has been all season.

At Bayern, he had Goretzka, Kimmich and Martinez to help him cover the pitch with him. Here, who does any of that this season? At City in the Cup, Klopp put him in a midfield 3 with Bajcetic and Elliott against Rodri, Gündogan and KDB and you are shocked we were overrun in midfield? What’s he supposed to do there when the coaches are failing him and the team in general with this wretched, soul killing football we are seeing?

Afternoon everyone, I saw a post on the LFC forums about Curt Jones and wondered what peoples opinions are?

He seems to get injured a lot to me but then again so do lots of ours, I think there's a player in there if he can stay fit and Id argue he'd make a really good DM type player if he was played dead centre instead of anywhere near the front line, unfortunately I just don't see it happening here for him myself as much as I'd love to see another scouser come through and lead the way.

Opinions?

He's a good player, getting a lot of unfair criticism from certain sections of our fanbase. I don't think he's a Liverpool player (or a player for any of the top clubs for that matter) . He operates best in a free role and isn't of the quality to have that freedom at a top team, can be guilty of holding on to the ball for too long at times as well.

Reminds me of Jack Grealish in his playing style, huge amount of quality but not necessarily a stylistic fit. He could go to a lower end club and be a match-winner, capable of producing moments to keep a poor team in the Premier League with his individual ability and the odd moment of magic. That's just my thoughts anyway.

{Ed025's Note - for me he is championship material thom..

2.) 11 Jan 2023 15:13:00
Maybe right, I don't think he's as good as Gibbs-White at Forest for example, but I think he starts for Southampton, Bournemouth or Leeds.

3.) 11 Jan 2023 15:15:33
He will fit right in next season at Everton then if he’s championship material you’ll need all the help you can get.

{Ed025's Note - we have enough slow immobile time wasters on our books without adding another one like him kloppers..

4.) 11 Jan 2023 16:27:26
Honestly don’t see him as a defensive midfielder, mainly on account of the fact he’s not alert enough to danger, defensively he looks all over the place and dawdles on the ball too long. I don’t see him as a centre midfielder either because of those reasons. He’s good at going past people with the ball but his decision making at the end isn’t good enough. I don’t think he’ll make a top class player. Bench warmer, squad player at best.

I think Ed025 may be right in his assessment.

5.) 11 Jan 2023 17:12:16
He needs to be fit and then good enough for a run of games. I don’t think that will be at Liverpool. Sometimes players need to leave to improve but he can’t be having a very small bit part role at the club, he won’t improve or get the most out of his career under those circumstances.

6.) 11 Jan 2023 17:43:58
Not good enough and Never available when we need him anyway.

7.) 11 Jan 2023 17:44:29
I like Curtis seems a top lad!
But as a player nope he wouldn’t get a start in the epl for any team I’m with Ed 25 on this championship level at best or the Scottish prem he’d be top level!
At lot used to compare his stats with fodens they don’t play the same positions so hard to compare!
But I’d know who I’d rather in my team and it’s not Jones sorry!

8.) 11 Jan 2023 17:52:55
I like Jones, it was October last season when he was superb against Porto in the Champions League and it felt like he was primed to kick on and then he got that eye injury and he's barely played since. This season was probably his big chance to become a regular but he can't stay fit. The next few months are massive for him.

9.) 11 Jan 2023 18:37:22
He needs to get fit. Then he needs to grab his opportunities. Then we can discuss.

If he can get himself properly fit, he may benefit from a season long loan.

10.) 11 Jan 2023 18:48:30
If I was Curtis Jones, I'd take that semi compliment from Vic and run. It's the height of every footballers career when Vx4 doesn't say you have the turning circle of a barge down a 1 way street.

11.) 11 Jan 2023 20:55:41
Needs to be sold get what we can for him. Not good enough never going to make it.

12.) 11 Jan 2023 21:34:41
He's like Lallana. I like him because of what he can do, just needs to do it more regularly and get his head up. He's better the further forward he is.

13.) 11 Jan 2023 22:07:31
Yet another player in the Sheyi Ojo, Harry Wilson, Jordan Ibe mould. Showed loads of promise when he got into the first team but his form has tailed off since then.
For me he tries too hard. He needs to understand that the best thing to do is not always to try to go past people or try a killer pass. Sometimes (in fact most of the time) the simple ball then a run into space will get you more that holding onto the ball and being flashy.
I think with a run of games he’s better than championship level but not quite top 6 level. I hope he proves us all wrong though and becomes one of the best in the league whilst at Liverpool. Stranger things have happened.

14.) 11 Jan 2023 23:09:43
I think he has really good potential and his skillset is really interesting especially his ability under pressure which is so important for us.

Unfortunately these really unlucky injuries have gotten in the way otherwise he would be much further along imo as he clearly needs to develop the defensive side of his game. You also want him to impose his talent more on the ball which I think will come once he puts the rest of his game together and becomes more confident.

You don't play for every English youth level U15 to U21 if you're not talented and you don't have a place in Klopp's squad if he doesn't believe you have the potential or mentality to suceed. Just needs luck right now and time and he'll be an excellent player for us.

15.) 11 Jan 2023 23:13:59
Funny that BP, plenty of folks on here slate Jones regularly for always playing the simple pass and not trying to take a man on or play the killer pass.
Opinions eh?
Klopp did mention another chat with him recently in an interview I read somewhere, and as much as I like him and want him to succeed even I can't help get the feeling that the sands of time might be slipping away on his Liverpool career.
Or he could have a breakout second half of the season and prove me and a lot of others completely wrong.
I'd much prefer the latter.

16.) 11 Jan 2023 23:52:46
Jones is still only 21 years old, is just coming back from a serious eye injury, and is learning a new role. True, his development of late has been hampered by injuries but there's still plenty of time for him here. We have a 25-man squad and not all of them need to be in the same mould as Bellingham, Enzo, etc.

17.) 12 Jan 2023 04:24:30
Jones has tidy feet and can dribble a bit but that’s genuinely it. Hasn’t kicked in at all in 3 years. Wilson and Grujic looked better and never got half the opportunities Jones got, he’s a sick note too take 15m and run.

18.) 12 Jan 2023 06:02:16
I think Jones is fine but has had it a bit tough with injuries so hasn't had a consistent run. Which is a shame cos he could have had a lot more games under his belt and grown his awareness. I feel he is a bit like Coutinho and 1-dimensional around the box trying to set up his shot when he could connect with others.

{Ed025's Note - he is a bit like coutinho faith, well they both have 2 arms 2 legs and a head....then the comparison stops..

19.) 12 Jan 2023 08:28:10
OneKiss are you V4 in disguise?
Or taking lessons from him?

20.) 12 Jan 2023 08:38:46
Not good enough.
Like Burkey, I can see the similarities with Lallana. Spends too long on the ball, takes too many touches and as a result usually ends up passing square or back to a defender.

Completely agree Magico bud he's been well below par and id take both players if it means a stronger squad with legs.

Come off it, when have they ever bought without selling? When have they ever bought without payment plans? Did they do the club a favour after the H&G nonsense? Absolutely yes but that was years ago and here we are.
We were saying on here and the LFC forums 3 seasons ago we needed midfielders, that we needed to strengthen from a position of power, Ferguson did it with utd year on year, in fact Paisley did it here, but we've not done it, last year was brilliant to get where we got but it only papered over the cracks.
This superfan nonsense is boring I'm starting to wonder if some of you work for fsg lol.
Like it or not we're in a mess and one I'm not convinced will be fixed by returning Injured players.

Id sign neither Saka or Bowen, both decent players but not what we need I don't think, couldn't tell you who id replace Mo with really but I don't think it would be anyone from the prem.

What of Carvalho have you seen even in brief glimpses to suggest he's up to it? Personally nothing, sometimes transfers are a mistake, and who knows what he's shown on the training ground Mango lad, he might have a shocking attitude and looked absolute bobbins.
So as much as I agree that I hope he goes somewhere and gets a game, I also think he was just the wrong lad in the first place.
Shame but it is what it is. now let's have some proper rumours. Is Fekir on his way to the roller coasters yet ;)

Not embarrassing for me I was just asking the question and a valid one, if it is the case then its embarrassing for Klopp for sure, I haven't sat with rose tinted on all season about the man, I think he's made dire decisions at times and I think he's lucky its been made out to be this overdue update and clear out, any other time I think he could have been gone already.
But he's money in the bank so to speak so we'll see what happens next, I suspect if this hasn't changed by xmas then his voucher to buy time will have run out.
Interesting summer coming up.

Never read anywhere else on any site anything about Klopp tapping up, If it was a huge issue would it not be made public? And by the main sports pages online?
Not sure he's any better or any worse than anyone else when it boils down to it, your not telling me this sort of thing doesn't go off at most big clubs, and I'm not condoning it by the way, It just seems a bit of a stick to beat Klopp with on here to me.

{Ed002's Note - van Djik got plenty of coverage. Meeting Bellingham's father got coverage. His visit to Monaco was well covered. Rather embarrassing for you.}
