Semenyo and Guehi in the January window, Salah situation patched up enough so that he's here until the end of the season, Slot will be given until at least the end of the season barring a complete collapse.
Not a fan of splinters in the arse so getting off the fence and passing on what I was told yesterday by the same bloke who gave me some pretty decent info I posted back in the summer window.

There is definitely interest in Michael Olise and also interest in Salah from Munich. There's no chance of a swap deal but people are negotiating. No idea where it will end up but we will find out.

Hi all,
Apologies, been a while since I’ve posted on here due to personal reasons, but I have a few bits of information I’ve been meaning to share for a while (apologies, this will be a long post, with a lot of names).
This is coming from the same sources within the club who gave me reliable information during the summer re Isak, Wirtz, etc. so they are sources I trust - but I need to add the disclaimer that this is a particularly volatile time at the club, and things are absolutely subject to change, so please take with a healthy pinch of salt, and don’t shoot the messenger!

RedNotice97 has written an article entitled, Liverpool’s Turbulent Plan: Slot, Salah And A Rebuild

Red notice . a good assessment of our current woes . at least the board aren't just doing nothing about how this season is playing out . Slot was a good decision this year but not working out this year, some players need to move on, some on here all have different ideas of who they'd like to stay or . fascinating and exciting times ahead.

Links to Ordonoz for £35m his buyout clause. Plays rcb. Guehi plays lcb so get both in. Celik of Roma been linked as an experienced RB on a free but a lot interested. I'd take Stiller and Wharton for midfield. Fofana and Semenyo for the wings.

Just so appalled by the job Hughes and Edwards have done.
Like the article says ‘everything is in turmoil’.
This is their job, to keep the club stable and progressing, not disrupting everything and thrashing around trying to sign everyone and change managers like they change their duds.
It’s basic stuff and they’re failing at the basics.
Players and managers will struggle at a club in turmoil, look at Man U. We must not follow that disaster, we must be better. We need stability urgently.

So hughes and edwards have the club in turmoil because they signed players every1 wanted in the summer? And as far as we know they are backing Slot. Jesus it only takes for someone to put up one post for us to slaughter everyone in the club. Edwards and Hughes also appointed Slot who won us the league did they not? .

FM - Hughes and Edwards are supposed to know better than fans on a message board . Just because “everyone” wanted to sign the players we signed (actually not everyone), doesn’t mean that’s the right thing to do. I don’t know many people who were asking for the signing of Wirtz before we signed him.
Wirtz and Isak (our 2 biggest signings) were not “needed”.
Isak because he was unfit and Wirtz was a luxury signing who didn’t fit into the team.
The club is obviously in turmoil when you have a manager being called out by senior players in the press, senior players pleading in the press for new contracts, results nose-diving and rumours of dressing room feuds with players refusing to pass to teammates.

I think we're beginning to see that wirtz very much does fit into this team. With the loss of Trent and the impending departure of mo, whether this is soon or at the end of his contract, means we need somebody who can progress the ball and be the new pivot around which our attack hinges.
Wirtz has shown he can do both, it's a matter of building the team around him.

Grav of last season was excellent consistently, and with a few more seasons at that level would be considered closer to the top class bracket.
There’s been a few moments recently where he’s started to break the lines, and get his game back. A second half of the season back to that level, and a good season next time around could see him elevated to the top table.
There aren’t many world class midfielders around right now, none that I can think of in the Zidane, Pirlo, Xavi, and Iniesta type category. Best in the prem is probably Rice, and he’s not that level either. If Macca is getting in the Argentina team it shows you levels aren’t quite where they were, he’s good at his best but he isn’t all that.

12 Dec 2025 19:25:29
A public apology for his public outburst would have been nice. He will clearly have to start as there is no way he sits on the bench, and that worries me. Maybe he will be so full of fury that he bags a few, but if he is as flat as he has been for the past 20 games or so, then all our momentum will be lost, and we will lose - and there is no way he can be subbed.
And I can’t really see him risking injury right before Afcon. I would have liked to see him come back after that tournament, and after an apology - but not right now.
He has let the club, his manager, and teammates down, and his inclusion may well likely lose us the game just so we can bow the knee to him before he moves on.

12 Dec 2025 19:39:29
This is win win if he starts. He plays like he had and it vindicates him being dropped. He bags a hat trick and even if he leaves, it's a great send off and we are likely to win. Personally, I think he'll spoon every attempt at controlling the ball and lose possession constantly and we'll all thank him with a love in at the end.

Pure hatred for the Manager on this website with lot's of so called fans jumping on a bandwagon and wanting the Manager to fall on his face. As I said before, I thought the fans on this website were a bit different but obviously not. If we can start winning games then it could be a fairly successful transitional season especially in the Champions League since we just beat the finalist in 2/ 3 previous years in their own back yard.
Looking for a solid home performance today and then the momentum could really grow.

Although the club may have been planning for Mo to go, and sounding out other clubs etc, Mo has been daft in going about things the way he did.
It’s another interesting day though, because if Mo plays a direct part in a win then the press may say it’s some sort of vindication of him, if he plays and we lose then the opposite could apply.
On a side note we’re being linked with a right back Palestra today. Although Connor plays well when fit I think it could be a good move to reinforce the right side.

As for Mo I think he was right in what he said but maybe not in public . sure there is enough media people to let out little stories anyway so his side would have been heard anyway.

{Ed025's Note - i still think Mo was out of order Strom but of course thats just my opinion mate, but Liverpool supporters need to make their mind up on Hughes and Edwards though, they have been slated for throwing Mo under the bus but even if that is true aren,t they just doing whats best for LFC?, you complained when players left on a free and yet they may be making a business decision for the betterment of the club by selling Mo while they can get good money for him to reinvest in the squad?...just a thought..
13 Dec 2025 11:53:28
You’re right Ed, particularly in the sense that dealing with some of these very wealthy and egotistical players is not easy. The general rules of business won’t apply in the same way for the player as it may for the club, and we do want to get a fee for him if he goes.
The idea that you can pay someone £400k a week for sitting on the bench is fantasy stuff, regardless of how great he’s been. That’s what’s got Man Utd into the mess they’re in.
It’s possibly too simple today to think they should be all communicating with each other, and acting like adults. Everything is being played out in public, even his lunch with Hendo, and it’s become more of a game than the football which is never a good thing.

They signed Mo up on a big wage but he could have got triple that in Saudi. so they thought he was worth it or on the other hand they might have promised him things for him to sign . me being a bit cynical they could have well been protecting the club, like getting a transfer fee in a year, who knows eh .
as for the Spanish Judas he to me is like that other Spaniish Judas Macmanaman, no proper scouser would do that to their own club . but that's my personal opinion about him .

13 Dec 2025 14:21:03
Thing is football fans up and down the country have been saying player power is ruining the game, no one is bigger than a club etc.
Isak behaved quite badly really to get out of Newcastle, although he claims a gentleman’s agreement wasn’t honoured. That hasn’t worked out well yet. Quite often it doesn’t, and it’s not a bad thing if there’s a shift back towards clubs holding a bit more power. We were also fed up with the way Trent gave the club the run around last year, and the way Konate is doing similar this year.
I don’t mind us taking a stand, and agreeing contracts but then selling a player. If Mo was on top form we wouldn’t sell him.
In this instance I didn’t like the idea of Mo being ostracised or forced out, but I was in agreement he should have been dropped. Let’s hope for a win, a cameo from Mo and a farewell wave as I think that’s what’s likely to happen here.

12 Dec 2025 09:43:52
Slot is still young, inexperienced and like a lot of good young coaches somewhat arrogant, stubborn and aloof. At the same time, he wouldn't have reached the level he is at without those qualities. It's whether he has the capacity to reflect and learn that is what we are interested in, and I think it is pretty disappointing that so many people are certain that he can't after less than half a season of uneven results.
He's been thrown into the cauldron this season with players that maybe didn't exactly fit the profile of what he was looking for, the death of Jota, the contract situations and now the standoff with Salah, weathering the first real period of protracted bad form in his career, non-stop press scrutiny in the toughest league in the world. He's made bad choices here and there, nobody is excusing him from that, but he is learning on the job. I think he's too intelligent not to know that he's made mistakes, but in reality he is still learning on the job.
The question is whether we give him the time to learn and trust that he can first of all keep us from conceding stupid goals and then consolidate the foundation for us to be an all-conquering side again. Suggesting that Xabi or Iraola would do a much better job is seriously speculative to me.
Not that I don't respect both coaches a lot, if push came to shove and Slot's position became untenable I would welcome either of them. But Iraola is an unknown quantity when it comes to managing an elite team and if you think that Xabi is a better man manager than Slot or less headstrong in his ways when it comes to his philosophy of football, you are in for an unpleasant surprise. Maybe the two of them would be better in terms of developing our academy players, this is one aspect that I think Slot leaves a LOT to be desired, but Xabi is also known to be quite a cold, cerebral and distant coach who doesn't get pally with the players.

Well Stromsgodset, we have beaten Arsenal, Real, Inter this season without conceding - 3 fellow top 8 contenders. In 80-81, 04-05, we had terrible league campaigns whilst transitioning teams and won Ole Big Ears.
Wouldn't be surprised if we do so again, especially as our current team is more suited to the pace of Europe. That will hopefully change once Wirtz becomes adjusted to the English game and Isak gets his form back.

Joe buck, big deal with beat 3 teams, with our squad we should but you glossed over the fact that we've been hammered by not so glamorous teams .

Winning a title is one thing but retaining it is another. You have a target on your back. There's not a huge number of managers who have won back-to-back league titles and they are all certified legends of the game, so to suggest that Slot is a failure because he hasn't won the league twice in his forst two years in the prem is pretty unfair.
He likely, and sensibly, thought that he would change the system this season. Since we have a target on our back, he suspected most other managers would have a plan to counter last season's tactics. As a manager you have to constantly evolve. Pep does it. Klopp did it. They all do it. Sometimes it doesn't work, and you have to decide whether to stick or twist. If you stick, the players get more used ot the system and you may play your way out of it. If you decide to twist and that doesn't work either, do you twist and twist again like is being called for? That woiuld be as equally mad. It's a losr-lose situation.
Let's call it as it is. A very very difficult job, and he's not failing because he isn't going to win the league back to back.
Agree3

12 Dec 2025 17:24:37
Stoneage. well who to blame for our season . by your reckoning a manger who changed a winning system to this whatever you want to call this system. N why because we have a target on our back . we are Liverpool we should well be used to team who think when they play us its their cup final but imagine if he kept the same system n these new players just joined an already winning system, imagine where we'd be now .
most probably top of the table with a very happy camp.

Good post Patrik. Whilst I’ve been a critic of Arne’s I’d be happy if he stayed with us, as that would presumably mean that we’d improved results wise. Arne won’t be with us for long though unless our league results pick up significantly.
The main proviso for me is that as well as results improving we also need to see the style of football evolve again. It doesn’t need to be heavy metal style, but passive football isn’t going to be sustainable for him medium term even if results continue to improve.
I suspect he is learning, even though he’s stubborn. It seems to be a thing with most young coaches to stick to their principles and philosophies even when they’re not working. I don’t get the inflexibility myself, but it’s common across the league at the moment.

Cesc was spoken to, I believe there is little chance of that going ahead. A very data driven conversion.
Truth be known, it’s Alonso.
If not then Gerrard may step in, conversations have been good.
Will stick my neck on the line though.
Xabi is the next LFC manager with no interim.

When it says fulfill his commitment I wonder if that means he’ll just hang about until an appointment is made, and if we don’t find one then he’ll just see out his contract. If so that’s a really strange position for him to be in, but if he accepts that then I guess that’s really big of him to do so.
While it’s routine for a club to have contingency plans to replace their coach, if it’s so obvious that we were actively searching and it undermines his authority you’d think it may be better for him to walk away with a settlement from the club.
Strange times indeed, maybe hastened by this evenings RM result.

Strange but not impossible chewy.
Alonso is manager of Madrid. He’s turned us down once, unless Madrid sack him (for crap results) he will stay at Madrid. So we only get him if he gets crap results at Madrid - wonderful.
If we’ve told Slot “you’re leaving” then why would he put any effort in to the job? He could easily just sabotage the team, get sacked, take a nice hefty payout and a long holiday.

Hughes was tasked with replacing the players we’d lost in the summer and he did an incredible job of it. Just because they haven’t all hit the ground running doesn’t mean he suddenly did a bad job.
His job is to persuade and sign the best players available for the club and he did exactly that.

The jumping to conclusions on here is daft! Honestly any small comment is taken as gospel, however it's said. Alonso saying he may one day return is in no way a " come and get me"
There is no way IMO Slot knows he's only keeping the seat warm for another manager.
Think about it. Slot was trying everything coaching almost every move in the Inter game. Reminding the players to keep focus every time the camera was on him. A dead man walking would not do that. He's trying to address the School boy stuff our team have been doing. The performance was solid, which is what we need right now!
I don't believe Alonso is the anserw. The PSG coach would be my honest preference.
Slot got us into this, he is showing signs of turning the tanker round. I'm of the opinion he stays until the end of the season. The premier league is the test, we have to overcome the speed pace teams present us with. Brighton will be a massive test.

Slot has a three year contract, I believe. I’d say a decision about the third year (25/ 27) is dependent upon the way the rest of the season goes. I mention his contract as Liverpool would, I suspect, be liable for the payment of a couple of bob if they terminate his contract.
On a seperate note, I think Alonso was great as a player for us, although he improved to world class level when he left us but is everybody really sure that he’s ready / up to the required standard for 5he PL? I’ve read on here lots and lots of times that the Bundesliga is a ‘Farmer’s League’ and he’s not exactly off to a flying start ar Real Madrid. I’m not saying he isn’t up to the task, just asking are there any doubts as he seems to be the overwhelming choice to replace Slot, should he leave.

Not so sure about Gerrard as interim. Maybe he could give us a bit of a lift, like how Ole did at Man Utd years ago, but only as an interim. I don’t think he’s good enough to be a permanent manager at Liverpool.
Although, I will say this; I’d rather put either Ed1 or Ed25- whoever has more free time- as interim manager than have to watch Slot-ball for the rest of the season.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with Ron a bit as to Hughes. Notably as to the "kid in a candy shop" idea. I do think he spent a lot, but the players brought in are all players that I think any team would go after if they were available (Wirtz, Isak, Ekitike, Leoni, etc. ) . I do agree that Slot needed a bigger voice.
That said, Slot showed adaptability last season, and I presume (maybe wrongfully) that the idea was Slot would find a way to make important signings work. I think many posters here hoped more adaptation was coming.
So, I agree that the manager needs to have input, but I don't fault the signings overall. I don't know how you don't sign a Wirtz or an Isak if given the opportunity to do so. That's just my opinion though.

Big respect to Carra of course. but I'm not sure I see this one playing out
"Cesc was spoken to, I believe there is little chance of that going ahead. A very data driven conversion. "
Agreed there's no chance on this.
"Truth be known, it’s Alonso.
If not then Gerrard may step in, conversations have been good. "
Gerrard has about as much chance as Cesc. FSG have been far too clear headed and business minded to blow up their asset on Gerrard as a manager. His stock is very low and the only reason he's mentioned is his history as a player at the club. They'd be better re-hiring Kenny.
"Will stick my neck on the line though.
Xabi is the next LFC manager with no interim"
if I understand correctly, and I appreciate I may have misunderstood, this sounds like Slot knows he's gone and Real Madrid knows Alonso is out at the end of the season. I just don't see what's in it for anyone (either the clubs or the managers) to play out the next 7 months like nothing's happened.
I think Slot will be in charge come the summer and I think in that time he'll have every chance to improve enough to get at least the start of next season to see how he gets on. At the moment, Xabi is having a similar season to Arne and he's previously turned us down. Other than sentiment again, there's no reason to believe he's an upgrade.

Slot has too much professional pride and respect for the club to walk away.
The club, we’re led to believe, is totally undermining Slot and has no respect for him.
He is apparently home sick.
So your employer is undermining you, you’re homesick, but your respect for your employer and your professional pride stops you from seeking an exit.

The issue for Alonso at Madrid is he’s asking the players to train rather than go on parties after a win and press/ run to win games. From the look of our play this season under Slot we have the complete opposite where we don’t look like we train or have the fitness to press, and regardless of the excuses creeping in of this being personnel issues, we started this dreadful run with slow boring style in February where we went out of the Champions League luckily making penalties and lost a cup final to Newcastle.
Fingers crossed Slot can get some momentum going with the recent results looking better but in all honesty we were shocking against Sunderland, capitulated against Leeds and Inter played into our hands with the slow tempo and then a very fortunate penalty.

It’s crazy how we don’t see midfield as a priority, not in Jan or this past summer, this was never a solid midfield despite how well we performed first half of last season. It’s our biggest weakness in the team for me, that as well as Konate.
Agree5

10 Dec 2025 12:15:25
To be fair, we have a lot of midfielders; Endo, Bajcetic, Gravenberch, Nyoni, Mac Allister, Jones, Wirtz, Szoboszlai
8 midfielders for 2-4 positions (depending on formation) should be enough. However, It's debateable though if we have enough quality or the right blend/ mould of midfielders.
CB is clearly the issue for me. We only have Virgil, Konate and Gomez now Leoni is out for the season. Virgil is 34. Konate is a liability. Gomez is more of a RB. Lucky might be moved up to the first team more permanently in the near future but he's barely played at senior level. We need at least 2 CB's. Guehi, Bastoni and Ordonez seem to be legitimate targets.
Other than that, Semenyo is going to be a necessity if as suspected, Salah leaves the club. As we'd then only have Gakpo, Chiesa and Rio as out and out wingers. Chiesa who Slot doesn't play, Rio who is a child and Gakpo who is injured and not playing well this season.
Ordonez, Guehi/ Bastoni and Semenyo is a realistically good January window for us. Sounds mad to sat we need 3 players in January after what we spent in the summer, but it's clear there were some oversights in the transfer dealings that need to be put right.

We basically replaced our entire midfield 2 summers ago.
And have added to it.
Probably why they don't see it as the immediate priority.
However I can see at least 2 midfielders leave the club in summer 2026.

I think at the moment the midfield is the only area where we have some form of normality. It hasn't been great, lack of form etc, and yes we do need someone with strength and control there, but if with all the other changes going on at rb, lb, trying to incorporate wirtz, ekitike, isak into the team, I think we need one part at least that is a constant- to build around.
January has to be about what we needed and was even put out there in the summer - a cb or two, and a flexible wideman. Not sure if guehi will leave palace in January, so will it be ordonez? And sounds like semenyo, although this diomande is being spoken about in this last week.

In my opinion we lack a midfielder who can control the midfield and other than Dom being capable of everything, lack one that can tackle.
We currently have generalist midfielders that (i) lack awareness of game state and (ii) don't have the ability to impose themselves on games. Dom is the exception of course.

Elliot Anderson in for MacAllister would be the dream for me. On his day I thiijo MacAllister is a fantastic footballer but he’s been very poor this season and his play acting has gone too far now, I’m sick and tired of watching him roll around like he’s been shot.

Imagine, players not getting what 5hey want, when they want it and how much they can get of it. Liverpool FC are the first and only club in the history of football who have dissatisfied players.
In my 42 year IT career in Britain, Holland, Germany, America and Australia I must be very lucky as I’ve never met anybody who wasn’t 100% totally content with their job.

With regards to transfers, recent events/ results haven't affected the plans (yet) which are basically as everyone on here says they are already. Is that ok now I've removed the logical spacing?

Wait a second, it wasn't that long ago that people calling out posters questions/ answers for being misspelled. They were being told off due to persons being dyslexic.
Now you want posters who are correctly using paragraphs to stop as it bugs you. It is nice to get information and I don't need you to ruin that by running down the original posters writing style.
Remember where we are and respect other supporters as we have enough hate out there without anyone here adding to it.
Keep posting whatever way you want, don't be put off by unhelpful comments about your posts structure.

Cheers Thefields.
This underlines the importance of recruitment. It is why ManU have struggled since Fergusson left. It is why so many teams struggle.
I think our 2 summer transfer windows under Edwards/ Hughes have disrupted the team. You need to recruit steadily, not “feast and famine” like Edwards/ Hughes. Feast/ famine disrupts the dressing room dynamic, cliques form. It takes a very strong and well established manager to prevent that. Fergusson being an obvious example, Klopp being another. Slot has only been here 18 months or so.
In addition, you need to recruit players who are a) very talented b) fit the tactical approach but also c) have the personality to fit in the squad/ dressing room.
I think Edwards/ Hughes have got a lot wrong so far and are making it more difficult for Slot.

We lost 8 first team players and recruited 7.Of those 8 Kelleher, Trent, Diaz and Jota were unavoidable and most would agree Quansah, Tsimikas, Morton and Nunez had to move on. We've lost more 1st team players than we've bought since Slot came in. We've signed less players than most of the top teams in Slots 3 windows so far.

Spot on Ron.
Recruitment needs to be spot on with regards to team integration and Klopp had it down to a fine art.
I can take and educated guess and say something is going on between Kerkez, Virgil and Gakpo. Mo seems to have a problem with Isak and Wirtz. Virgil is always on his back and blames him for things, that are his fault. Gakpo doesn't pass to him at all. Mo barely passed to either Wirtz or Isak. If I remember correctly Wirtz was in the box in space a couple of times and Mo being Mo, shot or tried to go past someone. That's just from watching the matches we have played tho, so could be nothing as well.

I don't know thefields, I can think of plenty of times mo passed to wirtz or isak and vice versa, it's just that mo always has instances where his instinct is to go for it himself as well so you could have evidence of that regardless of which player you put in there for him to pass to. He has tried to put either of them through on other occasions too though.
As for gakpo and kerkez, I wonder how much of that is down to cody himself and how much of it is down to instruction.

Aye PB. There are other examples, I was just using what I remember and getting the wrong answer tbh 😂. Gakpo is probably just being Gakpo, although I'm sure he didn't have a problem passing to Robo when he has played.
Without knowing who is involved, my mind looks for answers and the only thing I can go off is the matches. Hence why I've picked those instances out.

Diamond worked a treat, where has it been all season when suggested weekly, more compact no gaps, not the performance we wanted but the result we needed, tough game Brighton same diamond system again must be tried, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Wonder if we could bring Bastoni on the Plane home?

I have been crying out for the diamond formation all season. It accommodates most of our best players, at the expense of Salah and Gakpo (who I do think could rotate up top anyway) .
Let the fullbacks bomb forward and give the width like they naturally want to do and get the extra body in midfield so we are not as easy to play through. Gives Wirtz the freedom to do his thing also.

Tbf Bond, you did call for a diamond.

Anyway, I hope we don’t celebrate the breakdown of Salah’s relationship with the club.
It’s not a good look and it’s really upsetting for some.
The best thing we can do now is circle the wagons, quieten the noise, and when Salah goes give him a send off worthy of the Egyptian King.
He’s been an integral part of all of our success under Klopp and Slot. He’s brought a lot of joy.

100% shameful for club to have done that and not suprising either.
He wanted to stay, 2yr contract offered as fans would have been in uproar letting a star leave. Now team not doing well. Blame salah. Hello £100m from saudi.
If he wanted to leave, he would have left in summer. Could easily have said i've done all i can at liv, time for change in summer. And hello to the biggest payout he ever going to get. But he wanted to stay.
More like hughes thinking let's get some money in now we have him on a contract and team not doing well but at least cash in.

I haven’t watched a ton of Inter matches admittedly but I was at the match tonight and Bastoni was one of the worst on the field. Lots of givewaways or kicking clearances straight up in the air, it took him 10-15 seconds to take every free kick if Dom was near him.
He looked very unsure not to mention lightweight. Really silly foul in the box as well. If he doesn’t tug the shirt he probably pushes his headball far out of the box but instead he had no balance trying to hold on to Wirtz. Just one game but I was not impressed.
