Hi Ed, with a week to go before the window closes I was looking to see whether we had spoken direct with clubs regarding deals. It seems we have been speaking with Inacio through his agent over the last few weeks has that moved any further on directly with Sporting or is it very much dependant on Virgil leaving before Inacio would come to the club?

Is there anything else that’s a bit further down the line or is it still just a case of the club having interest in certain players but nothing further to be done this window? Thanks as always for all the work you do!

Alex4

{Ed002's Note - Inacio's agent will be keeping Sporting informed.

There will be other work going on in the background.}

1.) 23 Aug 2024 16:22:30
1 of Ed’s said same about varela also, them 2 would be nice, a midfielder or a under study for salah would be perfect for this window.

2.) 23 Aug 2024 19:01:19
Agreed Magico, I think an understudy for Salah is needed - perhaps in January (similar to Diaz coming in Jan to replace Mane)
Unless Salah signs a new contract of course.

Varela and Inacio this window would be great though.

3.) 24 Aug 2024 01:04:13
What does an ‘understudy’ do? Sits on the bench picking up tips from Mo in the hope he will be equally as good when Salah leaves next year? Maybe 10 mins on the pitch here and there?
No decent winger is going to do that. Much more likely when Mo leaves we buy a direct replacement and give him pre-season to learn what Slot needs him to do. Diaz didn't need a year to understudy Mane.

4.) 24 Aug 2024 08:17:56
That's why I think it would make sense to bring someone in Jan instead. Give them a few months to settle in, learn the language, the culture, see the standard Salah sets in training and his daily routine and give them some games along the way.
That way there is less pressure and a better handover so he's ready to hit the ground running next season.
It also puts less pressure on our management team to scramble around and buy someone in the summer transfer window.

Knowing Edwards, he probably has a shortlist of players but will look at teams with a desperate need to sell in Jan (to cover a big injury picked up or for financial fair play reasons) then make a cheaper opportunistic signing.

{Ed002's Note - January is a difficult time to buy.}

5.) 24 Aug 2024 09:34:07
Cannot believe we aren't in for Chiesa at that price. I know he has had injury issues in the past but Barcelona are getting a bargain at 15m surely? As close as a like for like replacement for Salah, there on the market at the right time.

6.) 24 Aug 2024 10:23:31
Chiesa is not the same player he once was. Barcelona will be selling him again next summer if they sign him. Steer clear.

7.) 24 Aug 2024 11:03:06
Could we not do the same if he doesn't work out? At the price, I would say it is worth the gamble.

He is versatile and I understand Slot tends to make changes to his wingers regularly during games, so he would get game time to assess, whilst leaving Salah as first choice starter for the majority of games. Still only 26 as well, so has plenty of time to have a return to peak.

01 Jan 2024 22:20:06
Hi Eds, Happy New Year to you all! I know there’s been a lot about Salah and possible replacements, is there any chance he could get another extension even if it’s just an additional year to coincide with Klopps at the end of the 2026 deal?

Alex4

{Ed002's Note - I very much expect him to take the offer and run in the summer.}

1.) 01 Jan 2024 23:12:32
The offer from liverpool and run? Or the offer from saudi?

{Ed002's Note - What offer from Liverpool?}

2.) 02 Jan 2024 07:04:08
He's ready for the footballing graveyard, as opposed to a few more season's and breaking records? He has enough money for 10 generations.

Guessing its about building schools and hospitals in Egypt then.

3.) 02 Jan 2024 07:22:05
Basically Ed is saying Mo wants to retire from competitive football after this season. Don’t blame him he has ran the Prem for a long time now and deserves to sun it up.

4.) 02 Jan 2024 10:28:52
He could hit 20+ goals 20+ assists in the prem this season. Only ever been done by Henry.
I just can’t see him going to Saudi. He’s just too good.

5.) 02 Jan 2024 11:17:29
Ed002, do you have any idea how much will be offered? Still talking over 100m?

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know but one would think it will be a decent amount.}

6.) 02 Jan 2024 12:59:13
Thanks Ed, much appreciated.

18 Sep 2020 10:14:47
Ed’s - after a busy few days with Thiago we seemed to be linked with every winger/ forward going. I know Ed002 has said we need to clear out players before we look to get anymore in, but there seems to be a link with Ousmane Dembele on loan which from memory was one of the forwards enquired for a few months back. Is there any truth to a potential loan move, guessing it would have to be a loan to buy potential replacement for Salah in the future.

Alex4

{Ed002's Note - Ousmane Dembele (LW/RW/F) Barcelona could be stuck with the player as it is unlikely other clubs will match their valuation and his recent injury may be a problem in terms of proving fitness - unless he can be used as part of another transfer, loaned or the price drops considerably. Liverpool had enquired after his price earlier in the but likely only want a loan with an option to buy - if that were to become an obligation to bu then it could be possible. PSG would resist his involvement as part of a deal for Neymar and Barcelona have moved on from him. Juventus could be open to a loan but will not want to buy the player. This could be very disruptive to other transfer plans. Player is not keen on leaving Barcelona and has been working hard to prove himself to the new coach.}

1.) 18 Sep 2020 11:07:19
Dembele and working hard aren’t words I would think go in the same sentence.

2.) 18 Sep 2020 10:40:30
Like you said in the past ED02, He is a player Klopp rate pretty high. How do you rate him as a player? He had tremendous hype when he was at BVB.

cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Overpriced when he left Borussia Dortmund and has had lots of difficulties but working hard to impress RK.}

3.) 18 Sep 2020 11:24:52
Ed2, do you think Liverpool still have the interest in Dembele or would our approach for Sarr (if there has been one) likely mean we’ve moved on?

Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - I would think interest in Dembele remains.}

4.) 18 Sep 2020 12:43:10
Thanks, mate. Not sure what made Klopp fall for the guy.

5.) 18 Sep 2020 15:00:49
Thanks for the reply Ed. Would you think interest remains for this window? Also, would the obligatory fee be massive or reasonable? Are Barcelona prepared to take a loss on Dembele?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not in a position to buy the player.}

24 Jul 2020 13:00:51
Hi Ed’s hope all is well. With the season finally closing in and movements starting to happen, I know it looks like money is really stretched if any at all with a centre back prioritised but is there a list anywhere of the players being looked at in the versatile forward areas for Shaqiri leaving possibly and maybe even Origi by the sounds of it.

Alex4

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of new targets Alex.}

1.) 24 Jul 2020 19:10:38
From memory Rashica has been mentioned a few times however seems like he could be on his way to Red Bull Leipzig is this right or just the usual Twitter people. I remember Tsyhankov name mentioned also at one point have either been looked at any further or has C.V. and budget issues put this sort of stuff to a halt.

{Ed002's Note - Yopu can forget both.}

24 May 2016 13:40:29
Eds just wondering if there is any update on Canos. Ed002 advised he had offers on the table and a lot of reports saying he wants to move on now.

Alex4

{Ed001's Note - last I heard he was considering his future and leaning towards leaving. There are loans and permanent move possibilities available to him, I know Frank McParland wants to take him to Rangers, for instance.}

1.) 24 May 2016 14:08:43
What are your opinions on the lad, Ed001? Do you think he has the quality and attitude to make it at the top-level?

{Ed001's Note - no, I don't think he has right now. I think he is far too happy to think he has done enough and coast. He needs a few knockbacks to teach him the value of hard graft, like has happened with the Leicester players. Canos is a by product of the academy era, too easy a life meaning players don't have that desire and hunger needed to really go all the way.}

2.) 24 May 2016 14:14:45
Although this is sad news if he does depart, it does show how far our academy has come from a few years back where everyone was usually being released or for nominal fees!

hopefully we will see more of a return on initial investments if players aren't going to make it in our first team!

3.) 24 May 2016 14:19:51
Eds are there ever buy back clauses inserted by us in the same way the likes of Barcelona put them in with their younger players?

{Ed001's Note - very rarely are they used by English clubs.}

4.) 24 May 2016 15:12:14
Who, this lad? Another one of those delusional youngsters who thinks he can waltz straight into the first team, make 150k a week and have a nike commercial in prime time telly, without breaking a sweat. We got plenty of those unfortunately.

5.) 24 May 2016 16:09:23
I think we're being a little unfair. Maybe he hasn't stepped up enough (or maybe he would if given the chance), but I do remember reading somewhere the Brentford teammates thought he was pretty humble and worked hard. I personally don't think he's ready and prefer to see Ojo given then chance instead but no need to slate the guy.

6.) 24 May 2016 18:13:40
Ojo's attitude needs serious adjustment too. He's got the balls to talk back at Klopp but not the brains to shut up and put up.

7.) 24 May 2016 18:40:13
When did he talk back to klopp? Don't think you have your facts right there mate.

8.) 24 May 2016 22:25:54
Any reason why several of our players have been linked to Watford in the past year? Do they have an ex coach or ex scout of ours? Sinclair left and signed, Ibe was linked in the spring, now Canos is. It sure looks like they don't mind publicly flirting with our young players, promising deals and turning their heads, but they get all upset about Klopp flirting with Zielinski.

Hi Ed001 - with the possibility of Trent departure in the summer have the club got any interests that you know of in replacements. I know it was mentioned a few months back Frimpong as a possible replacement but hard to see how he fits into a back 4. Obviously the club has Bradley but his injury record has been a bit sketchy since his break through. Who would you like to see in the perfect world should we have to replace from outside the club?

Alex4

{Ed001's Note - perfect world, it would be Trent staying. Hakimi would be a distant second.}

1.) 24 Jan 2025 14:22:40
Rumours today Madrid are talking to Kimmich. Hopefully that's true, and Trent is signing a new deal.

2.) 24 Jan 2025 14:49:36
MKS, I read a couple months ago that Pedro Porro was RM's second choice after Trent. That didn't stop them from putting in a "bid" for Trent which was more to do with igniting a media circus than anything else. Trent wants to stay and it seems the club want to keep him.

Let's see what happens.

3.) 24 Jan 2025 15:09:44
I want to know for the 3 of them if it's about career or if it's about money. If it's about money, honestly I'm getting pretty sick of the 3 of them. I wish people would stop solely blaming the club for this situation. They have a wage structure to try to balance. We now have Konate peering over the fence waiting to see what they get before he signs a new contract. Fans are getting priced out of games and it shouldn't be like this but the club have a money pit to fill on wages and transfer fees.

I'm tired of hearing about "the going rate. " The going rate is obscene. They're all on massive wages already. If you want to stay, put your ego away and sign the contract. If you want to leave, stop stringing the fans along and let us know.

4.) 24 Jan 2025 15:50:26
I’d get rid of Vvd and Salah.

Both are over the hill and have hardly contributed this season.

Vvd only has 2 goals and Salah has hardly kept many clean sheets.

Crazily though our two oldest outfield players, Virg has played every single minute of the Premier League and CL this season and Salah has missed 60 minutes of the 28 games.

5.) 24 Jan 2025 15:56:41
More than anything I’m sick and tired of debating/ reading the different permutations, whether they’re snakes or whether club have ballsed up.

There’s literally no new conversation to be had about this and no amount of chat is going to influence the outcome.

6.) 24 Jan 2025 16:04:54
I think we’re all fed up of it, on the one hand because of the apparent use of the press to apply pressure (presumably on the club from a few of the players agents), but also because on the converse of that we don’t really know what’s going on. Perhaps two have signed and the others are now just chasing a bigger piece of the pie.

The slight counter argument is that the club haven’t seemed to be decisive and proactive enough. that's ok when the money was tighter when we didn’t make CL, but less so now as we’re going to be in such a strong position financially again because of our league and CL position which helps us for this financial year and next.

BR point about going rates and the excessive demands is also right though. A significant amount of our turnover goes on wages, and as the club with the seventh highest turnover in the world that’s a massive amount of money.

I can’t remember a time or situation where any club when top of the league or doing so well had so many first team players being linked with other clubs. I make it six at the moment who are being linked on and off with moves.

7.) 24 Jan 2025 22:56:12
We can’t have the best players in the world whilst also bemoaning the best players in the world wanting to be paid the going rate.

Irrespective of the “going rate” it boils down to how much we value them for the next 3-4 years. We can’t be doing a manU and paying aged stars crazy wages heading into their mid-late 30s.

8.) 25 Jan 2025 01:42:23
@Babbity, you could always send an email to the club and ask if the issue is about the player’s wage demands. I’m sure they’d let you know.

Nunez wife hasn’t lived in England for a good while. She moved back to Spain whilst she was pregnant to have the child there.

Ed- on the right sided centre back topic have we looked at anyone in particular or anyone you’d look to. Feel like a lot of the names we’ve been linked with in the past are left side as long term Virgil replacements like Hicanpie, Guehi, Huijsen etc.

Alex4

{Ed001's Note - I know we had a look at Zabarnyi (or however it is spelt) this season, but it is only a recent thing that we have begun to really look seriously at the position. Quansah was seen as being capable of being first choice ahead of this season.}

Would love us to see if we could get Julian Alvarez if Atletico do have real interest in Nunez. Swap deals aren’t really a thing obviously but could pretty much make the money back. Feel he’s a much better option to Cunha or Pedro if the club want a more Firmino like striker again.

Hi Ed001 - do you still think we will try and get something done in this window or is it getting to the point of only if we have an outgoing like Nunez or Elliot? Feels like we could do with a midfielder or defender at the very least.

Alex4

{Ed001's Note - sales are not needed to bring in new players, just competent recruitment.}

Hi Ed, do you think there would be any interest lingering in Tchouameni? It seemingly dates back to Edward’s being at the club and obviously Klopp but he is someone who can play centre midfield in a 2 sitting or as a single holder, as well as cover centre back. There seems to be a few left sided centre backs who can play left back Hato, Hancko, Inacio and Hincapie all spring to mind gives cover for Virgil as well as an improvement on Robertson/ Tsimikas. Not all that confident in Hughes and co getting anything across the line but it feels like strengthening those two areas with people Slot trusts (unlike Endo, Morton and Quansah it seems) we could really push on and have a great season.

Alex4

{Ed001's Note - I think Tchouameni burnt his bridges to the club when we tried to sign him before his move to Madrid.}

Sorry Ed, whether you think they’ll get new deals over the line. Couldn’t think of a worse summer than Virgil, Salah and Trent all leaving, arguably our three best players on frees. Think it could be a real struggle next season if that does happen.

Ed001 - do you think we will get the contracts sorted? Feels like it’s so close to them ending that there won’t be a resolve now.

Alex4

{Ed001's Note - well it will be sorted one way or the other at the end of the season. I take it you mean do I think they will all sign new deals? From the way VVD and Salah are talking, it seems they are no closer to signing, so probably not.}
