Being reported on X/Twitter that Konate is off to Real - another one on a free.
02 Jun 2026 15:40:24
We already know he's leaving on a free. That's his choice.
I'm sure we've got our value out of him at £36m over 5 years. Would've been nice to get a transfer fee, but so be it.
Good luck to him and RM if that's where he ends up. I'm really not too bothered, tbf.
02 Jun 2026 15:46:36
First mistake he makes he'll be getting abuse. He'll be loaned out in a couple of years time.
02 Jun 2026 16:01:54
All Real want him on a free for is to sell him on in a year's time.
02 Jun 2026 16:04:55
Zabarnyi, Diomande and Palestra would be a sterling start to this window.
We'd still need someone to replace Endo and Jones, amongst others.
02 Jun 2026 16:12:18
So poor by the Reds, that's two to Madrid for free.
02 Jun 2026 16:19:10
Good luck to them trying to get a fee for him. He could have signed a pre-contract with another club from Jan onwards, and yet no one wanted to touch him.
02 Jun 2026 16:21:30
If Konate does end up at Madrid, that team do very well telling players to run down their contracts. Maybe we should be doing the same, save us a few quid.
02 Jun 2026 16:41:40
It's interesting that Real Madrid seem to get a lot of top players for free.
Perhaps, I'm wearing a tin foil hat, but I think something needs to be looked at there.
02 Jun 2026 16:57:18
Terrible defender. He'll make them even worse.
But I would like the next bit of transfer business to be an incoming player, seen as Konate, Salah and Robbo have all departed.
02 Jun 2026 17:00:59
RM have an aura which attracts most players. They are the undisputable kings of Europe, although, knowing FCB got caught paying off refs (for years), it's not a stretch to think that RM too have some kind of corruption on their side.
Macca was the only one of our bosmans to flourish there, whilst the rest have floundered.
02 Jun 2026 17:01:59
Real Madrid whisper in players' ears, telling them not to sign contracts and join them on a free.
No rules broken, but dodgy as hell, I think.
02 Jun 2026 17:09:13
It seems Konate had a win-win situation - get a bumper new, heavily incentivised contract with all the bonuses you can imagine or go and play for Real Madrid with a signing on fee, while being able to tell the Liverpool fans he's saddened and wanted to stay.
02 Jun 2026 16:09:32
It won't take long before he does that VV. Good riddance.
02 Jun 2026 17:13:29
I don't get why players are so attracted to Real but I'm not a player.
02 Jun 2026 17:15:46
We should have no problem attacking their right hand side then, if we get them in the Champions League.
02 Jun 2026 17:16:36
They are welcome to him... He's been poor for a while. Much better out there. If he wasn't a Liverpool player, he'd be nothing.
02 Jun 2026 17:25:40
Time to move on from Konate. Personally, I'm glad he's gone. We can do a lot better. Sign players who won't hold the club to ransom.
02 Jun 2026 17:28:10
Can we expect Macca to run his contract down to go to Madrid?
02 Jun 2026 17:30:50
This is as surprising as Trent's move to Madrid.
02 Jun 2026 16:22:23
It does seem weird then the deal was close and then fell through, it didn't happen due to Real getting into his ear about leaving on a free did they. No surely not.
But I seem to remember that he stalled talks because there was reported interest from Real at one point? Eds am I right with that or was that just rumours?
02 Jun 2026 17:34:56
I wouldn't say it's poor as it's simply footie and the player didn't want to sign. I'm still fumin' over McManaman. It's always gone on and ultimately down to the player, not the club. Regardless of a missed transfer fee, half of the fans don't want him anyway, so they weren't going to give him silly wages.
02 Jun 2026 17:36:45
Good shout, Fatwallet, wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen.
02 Jun 2026 17:41:37
Stromsgodset - Real Madrid may be good at instructing players to run down their contracts, but they've not won so much as a bean since 2024.
Signing Konate is their loss, not ours. To blatantly run down your contract all with the intent of signing for a particular rival club shows a trait of self-interest unsuited to developing a successful team.
As if Madrid didn't already have a bunch of self-centred players already....
02 Jun 2026 17:42:21
Need to start being ruthless. New contracts offered with 2 years remaining, and if not accepted, then straight on the market and look for a replacement. If the FSG model is to get players with potential resale value, we are doing a pretty mediocre job of realising that consistently.
We can't keep relying on teams to spend £20M a piece on the likes of Ibe, Brewster, Doak and Solanke.
02 Jun 2026 17:43:36
Szoboszlai would jump at the chance to go to Madrid. One of the reasons he was so openly supportive of Trent going and was critical of fans booing Trent, etc. He's a Madrid fan.
It's mostly a question of if Madrid want him, as Valverde or others play in his position.
02 Jun 2026 17:45:01
The funny thing is, we've been told for a while how weak our right hand side of defence had been over the last few seasons with Trent and Konate 'unable to defend'.
When we (inevitably) draw Real Madrid in the Champions League next season, we should have no problem scoring goals down that side now!
02 Jun 2026 17:47:43
SA. To me, it sounded like the opposite. Konate seemed surprised that we left him go. There is a term "strategic incompleteness" used in contract negotiations, where everything is agreed except a few small points, leaving the parties with the option of not completing, even though one of the parties might think it's as good as agreed.
Sounds like the club left things unsigned, allowing them room to change their mind, which they did. As for Madrid, they see a way of making money.
02 Jun 2026 17:50:31
Has he been learning Spanish recently?
02 Jun 2026 17:52:56
A new contractual structure has been in place for several months with senior figures and recruitment staff aligned on a more consistent approach to negotiations. Existing players such as Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo have already agreed new terms under this framework, while every signing made last summer arrived with the model firmly established.
Ibrahima Konate, however, was unwilling to commit to those terms. My understanding is that Liverpool view his situation as one they do not intend to see repeated. The club recognises it has ultimately left itself exposed, but maintaining consistency across the squad is now considered more important than making exceptions, regardless of a player's status.
That principle extends beyond the current situation. Liverpool are already planning for a number of future contract decisions and remain conscious of how previous scenarios have unfolded.
The same thinking applies to several key members of the current squad. Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai may all face important decisions in the year ahead. Liverpool's position is increasingly clear. Players will have opportunities to commit their futures, but if agreements cannot be reached, the club will act accordingly.
However, the pairing of Alisson & Virgil van Dijk may be exceptions next summer due to previous scenarios and how they played out, but there is a growing determination within the hierarchy not to lose valuable assets for nothing, nor allow contract situations to dictate the club's wider strategy.
The feeling is that Liverpool are building a healthier, more sustainable environment, one based on structure, planning and consistency. I.
02 Jun 2026 17:57:59
Westwood, what if the player doesn't want the move? Can't stop them running down their contracts. This is my issue w giving Gravy 280k a week basic; we can't sell these players on unless they might be willing to take a payout.
There isn't a single player in our squad that I'd be sorry to see leave if the fee was good for the club.
I'm not onboard with paying stupid wages for players who can't put in a shift for the club and the fans. If Dom doesn't want to sign and he's got eyes for RM, so be it.
02 Jun 2026 18:08:47
FSW, good information, but again, what if Dom, Macca, Jones, etc. refuse to commit and pull a Trent/Konate?
02 Jun 2026 17:38:52
He never had any intention of signing a new contract, massive wages wanted was a ploy to avoid a new contract agreement being agreed, another rat that had a whisper from a club not to sign a new contract then get a large signing on fee, money grabbing slime ball, did it a bit crafter than rat number 1 and avoided the rath of the fans but we know what he was up to, bet he speaks fluent Spanish too, probably same tutor as the other toss pot.
Should have seen this coming and dumped him with reserves last year spoiling his world cup aspirations.
Sounds childish but somewhere we have to draw the line on this kind of behaviour as others will do exactly the same not just our lads but others too.
I agree, this smells like a behind the scenes tap up, wouldn't buy any Madrid players when they do these dirty tricks.
02 Jun 2026 18:11:18
RM poaching goes back to McManaman for free, but at least we got £8 million for Michael Owen, with Nunez coming the opposite way for free.
TAA went when it was the Chinese New Year of the Snake, most apt.
CON-ate is the Chinese New Year of the Horse, the Cart Horse, in his case, most applicable.
Throw in Mbappe as well. Fancy having a few sherbets with that miserable crew.
The Chinese New Year for 2027-28 is the "GOAT" step forward, new LFC Manager Andoni Iraola, well deserved! Most apt.
02 Jun 2026 18:22:18
The difference between Konate & Arnold Rat is that Arnold Rat gave it all that "this means more" rubbish and all that trite crap about being a local lad. Then, giving it the "shhh" to the crowd, learning Spanish, and refusing to talk to the media whilst vice captain. Konate isn't a local lad, has no connection to the club or city, so is a transient employee. Should have been sold last summer but wasn't. If we get that lad on loan from PSG, that will be a good solution. But I'd happily sell MacAllister & Szoboszlai now to prevent it happening again.
02 Jun 2026 14:31:56
Afternoon Gents
We've received positive responses that Diomande could well be ours.
Cheers.
02 Jun 2026 15:41:17
That would be great news. Thanks, Robbo.
For those who (again!) post "but he asked his agent for PSG", the exact quote was that he said he was interested in PSG or Liverpool, or, I believe, he was happy to stay at RBL.
02 Jun 2026 15:56:07
Oh my goodness that's brilliant news.
02 Jun 2026 16:00:16
Thanks Robbie, that's fantastic news!
02 Jun 2026 16:01:37
Things starting to look positive.
02 Jun 2026 16:01:53
Can't find my tissues...argh!
02 Jun 2026 16:06:39
Well, this would be exciting.
Any estimate on price and wages?
02 Jun 2026 16:10:10
Unpopular opinion, but why are we not looking into signing Savinho if Diomande is not achievable financially.
02 Jun 2026 16:13:04
I've just read he's verbally agreed to join PSG ?????
02 Jun 2026 16:22:27
Has anyone seen him play apart from the odd match n YouTube reels.
02 Jun 2026 16:28:10
Thanks, Robbo
Are we happy to pay the 100m they're asking for?
02 Jun 2026 16:34:38
That would be amazing news. Cheers, Robbo.
Fingers crossed.
02 Jun 2026 17:18:43
Unreal! Thought he was sure to sign for PSG after yesterday's reports, delighted.
02 Jun 2026 17:30:22
Cheers Robbo, hope it happens, but not until I've seen the Melwood lean.
02 Jun 2026 17:37:19
You would think he would have a better chance of starting for us rather than PSG. It depends on the lad's mentality. If both offers are on the table, he either tries to fill Mo's boots with us in the Premier League, or battle it out with PSG's starting 3 in Ligue 1.
In order, I would go Diomende, Bowen, Barcola, in that order. Barcola has never impressed me.
02 Jun 2026 17:38:22
Elliott as a makeweight for under 20m apparently.
02 Jun 2026 17:44:06
Thought I'd seen somewhere £86 mil release clause?
02 Jun 2026 17:48:58
Diomande chooses us over PSG, Iraola has replaced Slot, Illia Zabarnyi could be heading through the door, and there are rumours of Thiago joining the coaching staff.
I've just contacted my bank to increase my credit card limit. The upcoming Kleenex order is going to be substantial.
02 Jun 2026 17:54:08
FSW... Elliott would smash it over there. I believe Diomande could be sensational for us. His work ethic, defensive work rate, speed and trickery remind me of Sadio.
02 Jun 2026 18:09:16
Sorry, Alonso, they'll be on back order. I've already taken their remaining stock!
02 Jun 2026 12:10:47
Just being told there could be a loan offer to PSG for Illya Zabarnyi
This might've already hit the media.
Ta.
02 Jun 2026 12:24:36
DaveOCKOP wrote on article on this, saying he has been offered to us by his agent.
02 Jun 2026 12:24:53
Thanks Carra, appreciate you sharing your insights.
I haven't seen a single media site post about this or anything on X. Believe you are the first to break this news.
02 Jun 2026 12:27:53
That's an interesting one, Carra. Thanks for sharing.
Could mean that PSG intend to bring Ibou in.
02 Jun 2026 12:34:39
Good move in my opinion. Gives the young lads a chance to bed in.
02 Jun 2026 12:42:25
Good player. Difficult to break that PSG pairing. Knows the Prem, knows Iraola, and still very young. I'd be very happy with him.
02 Jun 2026 12:43:15
He was brilliant for the Cherries, is tried and tested with the manager and the league. Not sure why they'd loan him to a rival though.
02 Jun 2026 12:45:01
Cheers, Carra. Any other updates regarding transfer much appreciated.
02 Jun 2026 12:45:14
Cheers, Carra.
Illya Zabarnyi is a fantastic centre-back. At Bournemouth, I actually thought he was better than Dean Huijsen, but he got less of the limelight.
He turns 24 in September, so he's still a baby in centre-back terms, but he's already played a huge number of games in his career.
More importantly, he's Premier League proven and already knows Iraola's system.
A complete no-brainer for me.
02 Jun 2026 12:49:05
Decent defender him. Smart move.
02 Jun 2026 12:59:56
It's VV approved, get it done!!
02 Jun 2026 13:00:23
Would be a very clever move.
02 Jun 2026 13:16:57
Would be a very good bit of business.
Excellent defender, knows our new Manager well... and, by all accounts, he isn't happy in Paris.
02 Jun 2026 13:20:22
Thanks, Carra. I was actually thinking this morning a loan for cb would make sense, gives us time to bleed through Jacquet and Leoni, and takes a little pressure off VVD.
02 Jun 2026 13:30:55
Zabarnyi would be an excellent loan signing. I would personally be surprised if it happened given how much PSG paid for him, but for Liverpool it would be ideal.
02 Jun 2026 13:32:55
That's clever beyond words.
02 Jun 2026 13:45:32
The reason a loan 'may' happen is political.
The club could want him back if they decide to move Sofanov on the summer after.
Seen as a win win deal.
Ta.
02 Jun 2026 13:50:36
Very shrewd, good player.
02 Jun 2026 13:54:42
I mooted this idea the other day on the discussion page. (On Slot out day).
The fact that he will only talk to his keeper when he has to is a big deal, and he refused to shake hands or stand near his keeper on a photo.
For a defender, that level of animosity with a keeper is a problem.
He has also not played well for PSG.
Push for loan with option to buy. 👌
02 Jun 2026 13:58:43
Carra, is Sofanov moving on to do with the number of foreign players in their squad?
02 Jun 2026 14:26:08
I just stepped outside to check if the sky is red. Viktor actually likes a player. And wants to buy him too. Wonders never cease. 🤣
02 Jun 2026 14:31:42
Is this the absolute unit playing in the final the other day. Bloke looked huge. 🤣
02 Jun 2026 14:54:12
Lofty, Sofanov is Russian, Zabarnyi is Ukrainian.
Hence, 'political' and difficult for them both to be starters in the same team.
02 Jun 2026 15:13:24
Thanks, Carra. Just seen that. Worth a real shout cos PSG don't sign scrubs since Enrique has been there of late. Zabarniy is a very good CB.
02 Jun 2026 15:47:04
PSG have gone all TLC, Oli.
02 Jun 2026 11:08:50
Bradley Barcola is Liverpool FC's main target to reinforce the LW position, alongside Yan Diomande.
02 Jun 2026 11:39:10
What's new?
02 Jun 2026 11:50:00
Let them have their moment.
02 Jun 2026 12:06:57
Really don't rate that Barcola, for 35/40 mil, yeh maybe, but not at the price they're quoting. Seems like another Darwin, very erratic, poor finishing, but without the work ethic, not an out and out winger either.
I know some on here tend to have a revisionist history of how good Nunez was, but let's be honest, for the price, he was dog. Worked hard, but the main job for a St is to score, and the lad couldn't find his arse with a banjo.
02 Jun 2026 12:18:09
Weren't there numerous reports that Diomande verbally agreed to sign with PSG last night?
02 Jun 2026 13:33:43
Barcola doesn't have the Liverpool DNA, that fighting spirit.
02 Jun 2026 13:37:47
Every time I watch Barcola, he is shocking. I really don't see any merit in the management team's continued obsession with him.
Does he look good on a spreadsheet?
02 Jun 2026 13:55:55
Depends on the price.
There's a good player in there, but he needs coaching to improve his decision making and final ball. Would be happy with a cheaper deal.
02 Jun 2026 14:45:16
I'd rather keep Rio and Gakpo on the LW (Iraola will improve both), and go all out to get Diomande for the RW spot. Then assess Chiesa and Koumas in preseason to see if they can be backup to Diomande or get someone on the cheap.
Barcola just doesn't seem like a good fit for some reason.
02 Jun 2026 15:14:04
Mate, that's like 3 months old news. Any evolution on this topic from your sources?
02 Jun 2026 10:31:52
Getting linked to this Palestra kid a bit.He any use?
02 Jun 2026 11:22:07
Was named Serie A's Best Defender this year.
He's got all the makings of a beast of an RB. Good on the ball. Quite comfortable on his weaker foot too. Physical attributes suited to a man-for-man system.
02 Jun 2026 11:43:02
Nice one, Fpf. So a future back four of him, Leoni, Jaquet and Kerkez would be solid as duck, so? If Jaquet is as good as they say. Have no doubts over Leoni.
02 Jun 2026 11:55:00
As long as we don't suddenly expect him to play 40 yard diagonals with either foot.
Trent was a unicorn in that respect.
02 Jun 2026 11:05:14
Ed001 rates him, that's good enough for me
02 Jun 2026 12:25:33
If he's injury prone, he will do for me.
02 Jun 2026 13:56:59
He's just what we need. He will need a bit of coaching in terms of positioning in the Premier League, but he has pace, strength and ball skills.
Definitely sign this kid.
02 Jun 2026 14:11:23
He would be a great buy for me, quick, strong, good on the ball, and can defend, oblivious some adjustment to the prem needed coaching wise. But, we are lining up a back 4 who can carry the ball out, and have pace at full back, and who doesn't like flying full backs and the occasional mazy run from a CB...
02 Jun 2026 14:13:52
I read somewhere that Inter Milan are closing in on his signing. 😮💨
02 Jun 2026 14:22:22
I've read there's a few teams looking at him.... including Newcastle, here we go again!!
02 Jun 2026 14:48:32
I like the look of him, especially that he doesn't seem one-dimensional. Because he seems comfortable with both feet, sometimes he runs down the line; other times he cuts in or makes inside runs. Looks decent.
02 Jun 2026 10:24:37
Fabrizio Romano Tweet:
🚨💣 Breaking: Liverpool reach agreement in principle to appoint Andoni Iraola as new manager. Here we go! 🔴🫱🏻🫲🏼
Exclusive story from Saturday, 100% confirmed: Arne Slot left and Iraola will lead #LFC project, as expected.
Talks advanced over last 48h and deal in place.
02 Jun 2026 11:11:36
Smokescreen for Enrique. 😁
02 Jun 2026 11:51:44
Must be true Romano and Goldbridge have said it, so must be true
But I definitely think it's close.
02 Jun 2026 12:36:48
But Flo himself hasn't said it, so surely it's not true?
02 Jun 2026 13:07:05
Fabrizio is the best in the game. He was the first to report the breaking story, mate, no need to make a dig, is there?
02 Jun 2026 13:23:37
Also, Flo, it's been reported on here for months, he was going. So he broke nothing imo.
02 Jun 2026 13:22:34
He is jumpint the gun to try and keep his reputation in tact. As soon as Slot was sacked he mentioned Iraola, not because he knew he was the choice but because he knew, like the rest of us did that he wanted to come here. Now we have opened talks, nothing is confirmed.
Its just talks. He has said he's confirmed. How would he know that if talks are ongoing? I will tell you why because its blatantly obvious he is the clubs choice and will be appointed in good time. So him saying what he has, just proves the point that he is another charlatan imo
02 Jun 2026 14:33:00
Wasn't it just a week ago, that Romano had doubled down on "Slot is not leaving"? Charlatan clown indeed.
02 Jun 2026 15:16:38
ArAy1969, you clearly didn't get the memo. Romano will not be happy you outed him for the very thing we have always known for him to be. A real spoofer.
02 Jun 2026 15:21:25
Fields,
Then, is it in the mood to be confirmed as Iraola?
Or is there another possibility?
02 Jun 2026 15:47:35
At this moment, all roads point to Iraola Rokki. Just me, not being convinced by a charlatan who is obsessed with getting the attention of being the "1st" to break something.
02 Jun 2026 15:51:03
Flo Wirtz. Romano is a charlatan. He's a product of the system. The whole 'Here We Go' is cringe nonsense.
02 Jun 2026 15:57:36
Romano is the epitome of a "tap-in merchant". His MO is very predictable. He harps on the most obvious story for days on end, making it seem like he's giving blow-by-blow updates and dramatises everything to get everyone hyped. And when it finally happens, he says something like he reported the story two weeks ago or something like that, to make it seem like he broke the story first, when in actual fact he just said it the loudest.
He used to be a respectable and decent football journalist but ever since he gained popularity, he is now nothing more than an influencer with a catchphrase.
01 Jun 2026 22:58:19
Reports tonight saying Diomande has verbally agreed a PSG move. Would be a bit gutted tbh - out of all the links so far he looked well suited.
Only saw him play around 5 times last season but looked a handful.
01 Jun 2026 23:58:53
Would be a pity, he can play either side. It would mean Barcola is 100% on the market.
02 Jun 2026 00:17:16
I trust Iraola to explain to Hughes what he needs. They will work well together, I'm sure. Iraola always speaks very highly of him.
We usually miss out on the biggest transfers until last season.
Szoboszlai wasn't a bad Bellingham fallback.
Coach is the main thing. We now have a coach I'm confident will turn whatever winger comes through the door into gems, and also Gakpo and Rio.
02 Jun 2026 00:34:56
Maybe he changed his mind once Slot had been given the boot.
02 Jun 2026 00:40:28
It's the usual dance we play. We want the player to only want Liverpool FC before we engage with the selling club. If he is open to both clubs, I expect we will walk away as we don't do auctions.
02 Jun 2026 00:41:23
Dissapointed but not surprised. It's the obvious choice from a neutral standpoint.
02 Jun 2026 00:45:13
PSG planning to field teams with 11 wingers or something?
02 Jun 2026 01:20:46
FlyPelicanFly, don't do auctions? Didn't Liverpool outbid Chelsea for both Lavia and Caicedo 2 years ago? Unless you mean they've subsequently learned from that?
02 Jun 2026 02:40:30
Not one person involved in the Caicedo/Lavia summer is still at the club.
02 Jun 2026 06:37:30
Get Diomande's dad to have a word, he's a LFC fan, they're sorted.
02 Jun 2026 07:00:11
I've read the same tabloid sites that the OP is referring to, and they say he has agreed to join either Liverpool or PSG. Depends who can get a deal over the line with RB Leipzig.
02 Jun 2026 07:40:04
Fuser, but Caceido had already opted for Chelsea and Lavia. I don't blame him for picking Chelsea because of how we dragged our feet.
02 Jun 2026 07:56:12
Can someone honestly tell me Barcola is a good replacement. From what I have ever seen, I'm not convinced.
02 Jun 2026 08:08:52
Considering the price, his age and experience that Barcola has at the top level, I'd say he's a good buy even if I'm not the biggest fan of the player. If he was 100m+, it would be an entirely different question altogether.
He is still young enough to improve, and you're not going to get a player with his experience and pedigree at the very top for that price.
02 Jun 2026 08:22:13
If you trawl long enough, you'll find half a dozen outlets saying Diomande (or any player) is choosing PSG.
Search a little more and there's a half dozen more saying he's leaning towards Liverpool.
Search long enough and you can find anything you want - Elvis is alive and living on a Tongan island.
{Ed025's Note - im all shook up now Hoof it.. :)
02 Jun 2026 08:26:46
Are you saying that the Diomande to PSG rumours are the pipeline to believing that Elvis is alive and the world is run by lizard people, Hoof it?
02 Jun 2026 09:02:32
Also means Enrique staying at PSG.
He knows PSG wins their league at Xmas every season, so are fresh as daisies for the UCL run in. Same with Kompany.
In the prem ye full pelt every game, Enrique, Kompany knows that.
02 Jun 2026 09:05:10
I recall one of the Eds mentioning that Salah was initially the fourth-choice option before joining Liverpool, which highlights how players with potential can flourish under the right circumstances. Similarly, there are several examples such as Barcola and Mane young wingers who, with the right coaching and development, could evolve into high-quality players. These individuals are all quite young and still have room to grow, much like Diomande, who also required time and guidance to reach the top level.
Barcola's end product could be better and with adequate coaching can be improved, something the coaches can work on, if he was to join.
02 Jun 2026 09:42:27
Diomande is also talking to Liverpool and we want to get a deal done before he heads off to the World Cup.
02 Jun 2026 10:06:25
Until something is just about done most stuff you see online is pure crap.
Alonso was nailed on to be our manager on every website after he left Madrid then out of the blue he is Chelsea manager.
Last summer Wirtz had signed for city or Bayern.
Sky every newspaper said Slot was staying a new coach was coming in on Friday to work with Slot then the next day his gone.
Most clubs do not give reporters great info why would they because yeah that's good for the reporters but what is better when they get to stick the knife in because them stories go on longer so why would clubs be close to the scum bags rag reporters.
First thing let's get a manager in then see how where things go from there.
But after this last season I think we have some great players already here and with a new manager we will do very well and challenging for the league and champions league again because as bad as we where we have Mach winners in our squad.
02 Jun 2026 11:55:12
There's a guy who works down the chip shop, swears he's Elvis.
So it could be true.
02 Jun 2026 15:17:50
Cookie Monster, you mean like Billy Hogan?
01 Jun 2026 22:38:55
Any news on sensible rumours? I reckon we need two wingers, a forward and RB as minimum.
Would love us to in for Kronos Jnr. I think he has a bundle of potential.
01 Jun 2026 23:03:54
Think he's a but busy ruling in Olympus mate.
01 Jun 2026 23:10:33
I think we need cover on LW/RW (Gakpo is good for bench only), an attacking midfielder to replace outgoing Jones, someone who is better than Macca and definitely a RB. We still have many options of CB with Van Dijk, Jeremy, Gomez, Giovanni and hopefully some academy players can show up on the back as well this season as well.
What do you all think? Who should we sign on wingers if Diomande ends up picking PSG?
01 Jun 2026 23:50:56
Whatever happened to that Malik Fofana, playing in the South of France some place? Is he no longer a target?
01 Jun 2026 23:54:15
Does anyone know if we have a buy back clause on Tyler Morton?
{Ed078's Note - we have a sell on clause, but no buy back I believe.
02 Jun 2026 00:55:14
I would expect the positions we are recruiting for won't change - i.e. RB, CB, DM, CM, LW, RW and possibly GK if Marma goes out and another flexible forward to make up for Hugo's longer-term absence.
Big question marks will be:
1) Is Adam Wharton still the guy now we are going with a different game model?
2) What profile of RB would we need? Flyer, CB-like profile or midfield-like profile?
3) What type of CB experience do we want to add? Left CB? Height? Progressive passing ability? Pace?
Diomande or Barcola seems to be the big name signings we are considering for the wing.
But we will need another and it'll likely have to be a bit cheaper.
Palestra and Kayode seem to be the obvious RB names in the mix at the moment. However, I am sure there's a long list as we were in the same market last summer too.
The no-brainer midfield signing would be one of Lamine Camara or Mamadou Sangare. They would add some much needed aggression to the midfield. Camara has been on our list for a couple of years now.
02 Jun 2026 02:20:14
I think we will have a big window. 11 out and 9 in.
Out:
Gomas
Konate
Endo
Bajcetic
MacAlister
Elliot
Salah
Chiesa
Gapco
In:
Schlotterbeck
Jacquet (Done)
Senesi
Yirenkyi
Camara
Sangare
Diomande
Nico Williams
Palestra.
02 Jun 2026 06:50:44
Not a chance Diamonde going to PSG. Nico Williams, no chance. Sensi going Spurs. Gomez, Gakpo going nowhere.
02 Jun 2026 07:54:35
I stopped reading at Gomas.
02 Jun 2026 08:06:26
So, stupid question time.
How does a sell on clause work if we were the buying club? Surely means we would be in a better place to pick him up (technically) cheaper.
Pay £40m, get the 10% sell-on back? Never heard of it happening, so genuinely curious.
Or do we think the price gets bumped up 10% for us to cover the actual cost after the clause?
02 Jun 2026 08:10:04
Gomas, the Dragonball Fusion of Koumas and Gomez into an all action dynamo who tears it up in both boxes.
02 Jun 2026 10:09:24
@RedQ, Say the sell on amount agreed is 10%. If the club we sold the player to is sold by that club in turn, if they receive £ 100m we get £10m. At least, that's how I think it works.
02 Jun 2026 10:18:53
I get that, WDW mate, was just a hypothetical. What happens if it is in fact us that went in for Morton? Considering we have a sell on clause.
02 Jun 2026 10:25:35
Not impressed by Nico Williams. He's on massive wages and would be expensive and not been impressed by him.
02 Jun 2026 11:17:47
I have a feeling the sell on clause is 10% on the profit, not full amount, WDW.
02 Jun 2026 13:23:12
ScouseDAP, that's the funniest thing I've ever read on this site. Fair play.
01 Jun 2026 17:48:28
Ed1
As bayern lost out or side stepped Gordon (whatever your view is on him). suggests they are in the.market for a left forward.
Do you think they may look at Gakpo? Was linked with a move in January I believe
Cheers fella
{Ed001's Note - possibly, impossible to say if we would be willing to let him go though.}
01 Jun 2026 18:12:17
If Iraola can make a consistently useful player of Gakpo, he is the second coming. He would be so much better in a lesser league.
{Ed001's Note - and yet he was very effective last year when we won the league. I don't understand why everyone hates Gakpo so much as a player, he is not that bad.}
01 Jun 2026 18:15:36
This squad needs major major work. Think back to our bench last season.
Factor in Salah leaving, Ibou leaving, Ekitike injured, Bradley injured.
That's 4 out of our starting line up.
Then you've got Robertson leaving, Leoni won't be ready, Isak probably injured, Gomez probably injured, Jaquet touch n go, and question marks over Chiesa, Elliot, Jones, Frimpong, Marma, MacAlister, Gakpo, Endo 😂.
And then the little problem we have, no manager. Other than that, we're sweet.
01 Jun 2026 18:26:18
Yep. Squad wasn't strong enough last year, and so far we are down Mo, Robbo, Hugo and Ibou, with it not clear whether Bradley is also out till the new year. A lot of work to be done.
01 Jun 2026 18:28:54
I agree Ed01 about Gakpo. He gets really bad flack and he was by no way our worst player. MacA and Konate can share that title between them. I think people associate Gakpo with Slot and Slots reluctance to drop him during a poor spell but the abuse he has been getting has been really bad. Seems like a nice guy too
01 Jun 2026 18:26:22
Agreed Ed. Gakpo is a very solid player with obvious limitations but also obvious strengths.
Him and Rio on the left, under Iraola, is enough for me. He has looked far worse than he really is this season like a lot of players. I think he'll be back to his best next season, along with a few others, particularly Mac Allister.
01 Jun 2026 18:43:05
Just for the record .. I didn't say I wanted Gakpo to go ..
I have said previously, judgement for this season is wiped clean as they showed they can do a job under Klopp and a title win under Slot.
If anyone is sold ... I won't cry (Alison aside) ... but also I'm not pushing anyone out the door either ... MacA I would hope asks to leave though. 😁
01 Jun 2026 18:47:11
Gakpo is not that bad.
Amazing.
He was carried by a great team. He can do one thing, badly. Cut inside and hit a fullback's shins. One in fifty, he might trouble the keeper.
He's six foot three and never wins a header outside the box. If the ball goes near a fullback in the air, he rarely bothers. He is slow. He isn't gifted at dribbling.
So often, moves on the break faltered at point of Gakpo. So many people disliked him because he was emblematic of our whole season. Powder puff in defence, one dimensional in attack, and absolutely without any fight.
He's the worst regular football player we have had in years.
He's not that bad. You need to do the Edinburgh Fringe with that.
{Ed001's Note - you really are an abysmal judge of players, it is quite embarrassing reading your rants which show absolutely zero insight.}
01 Jun 2026 18:49:06
Gakpo is a very limited footballer, and as a winger, not effective. He benefited a great deal from Diaz last season. He is slow, has no tricks, can't beat a man, can't go on the outside, average at pressing and passing. He isn't good enough at anything. There is no way he should be a regular starter for Liverpool.
01 Jun 2026 18:49:20
Or we could look on the bright side... Allison, Kerkez, VVD and 2 very high potential CBs. A ton of wages now freed up. Wirtz and Szobo are two of the best midfield players in the world. Isak is one of the best CFs in the world and will surely show that next season.
Ekitike injury is a disaster, tbh, but Gakpo is actually decent when in the right system, MacAllister too. Rio will be a bigger part next season and will probably end the season as our #1 LW.
01 Jun 2026 18:52:12
Gakpo has scored 50 goals and got 20 assists for Liverpool, mostly from the wing. His form has suffered this season like everyone else's due to Slot's turgid playing style and the squad's general lack of fitness and conditioning. Salah, Konate, Mac Allister have all performed worse, but Gakpo gets the stick because he plays in the position where everyone wants to see the 'wonder boy', who is not ready to play regularly yet.
All the social media frenzy can't be doing Gakpo's confidence any good. So give him a break and let's see how he does under a new manager who won't be playing to starve the forwards of service.
01 Jun 2026 19:02:42
He was not our worst player this season. He contributed more than MacAllister, and arguably Wirtz, who looked like a frightened child all season. imo, Isak was the worst of the bunch, but he didn't have many games to prove himself, not that anyone is surprised that.
It was an insane signing and one that will probably go down in history as the biggest waste of money next season. I would be surprised if he plays 10 games or more next season.
01 Jun 2026 19:07:33
I agree, Kemlyn. Other players are getting off Scott free here and all the abuse was aimed at Gakpo, who, yeah, I agree he should start every game, but he may have had qualities that Rio doesn't have yet.
I don't get all this Rio hype either. He just does a load of step overs and that is it really. He'll obviously get better though (and then demand a move).
01 Jun 2026 19:14:09
Now that Slot is gone, each player should have a clean slate.
01 Jun 2026 19:16:57
Totally agree with ed001 here. Gakpo suffered badly under Slot along with others this season.
Let's hope the new manager gets the team going cause with the squad we have we really should've been pushing on for number 21 that's why we all felt disappointed
01 Jun 2026 18:43:14
Completely agree Ed. Suffered one of the most with the crap tactics. Instead of rounding one man to get into position to score a free shot on a goalie, had to round one man and would still have a wall in front of him to shoot around.
He played some good games too.
I have no desire to move Gakpo on.
01 Jun 2026 18:47:19
Well said Ed. Gakpo is a fine player, and a top lad. The issue is that he is not a winger, nor a false 9. He is perhaps an old-fashioned inside left.
He is a handful near the box, and helped create a lot of goals (and scored a lot too) before this season. I don't think he was helped at all by the lack of movement by his teammates, but at the same time I don't understand why he didn't use Kerkez more as an outlet.
{Ed001's Note - not so sure he is a top lad, he is still a slum landlord which is a disgrace.}
01 Jun 2026 19:27:52
Gakpo gets some unfair criticism in my opinion.
In Slot's first season, he played very well, scored some very important goals and looked a different player to the season just gone.
I think the slow play has affected almost everyone this season and Gakpo is no different.
I for one would love to see him get a proper chance under a different manager next season.
He used to get in the box more and is very good in the air too. This season, it looks like he's played a different role in the side which hasn't benefitted him one bit.
01 Jun 2026 19:29:35
I'm with Frode, all players deserve a clean slate, as who knows, that player could make the difference next season.
01 Jun 2026 19:31:55
I have no worries around Wirtz, I think we will see a different player next season in an Iraola system and once he's bulked out a bit, I'm sure he's on a plan to add muscle mass, and he knows what the prem is like, tbh it's hard to tell. If you consider 2.5 weeks in preseason were missed due to the Jota tragedy, then with the drop in fitness training and rise in days off, plus the system, it's hard to gauge what is player form and what is that they were just in no physical condition to compete in the prem.
Albeit Gakpo should have been better, and McAllister. I think it's impossible to judge Isak on the preseason and injury. He does seem to pick up injuries, but historically still hits 20+ goals regardless; he will bring goals. Basically Hugo, Wirtz, Kerkez and Isak, under Iraola will prove good business in the long run, albeit bringing them all in one window left a very unbalanced squad. For me.
01 Jun 2026 19:39:27
Gakpo was certainly not the worst player by any means last season. Better than Macca plus Grav and similar to Salah. Macca was the worst imo.
01 Jun 2026 19:51:08
100% Frode, everyone gets a fresh start under a new coach.
01 Jun 2026 19:59:25
I don't personally think the squad needs "major work" at all; it needs management tweaks and a significant increase in fitness levels. For whatever reason we were disjointed, and any manager who comes in would have observed that from afar, as we all did. A fundamental manager fix, in my opinion, as regardless of a grim season it wasn't as bad as many are saying.
01 Jun 2026 20:06:59
Inbeta, seeing as our options up front pre-Isak were: Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo, with Chiesa really not being fancied and Rio was an untried kid, who were we looking to bring in to bolster that very understrength front line? Diaz wanted to go.
Nunez wasn't wanted.
I feel Isak was always the plan last summer. We had to pivot to Ekitike due to the loss of Jota, which blew Newcastle's plan out of the window, so they held on to their player until they got in their backup plan.
01 Jun 2026 20:10:20
Also, when Gakpo actually put crosses in, they were more than decent, maybe if we move away from inverted wingers, he might be a little better, throwing crosses in with his dominant foot (in the ideal world, I'd like any wingers to be good with both feet).
01 Jun 2026 20:12:14
The Gakpo hate is entirely unwarranted imo. Yes, he's pretty basic and limited, but what he does do he tends to do it well. A consistent threat whilst not being the best all round player - I remember two other forward players we had recently that fell into that same category and they got lambasted for it.
Now, those players are missed sorely for their undervalued attributes.
Sometimes you don't know what you have until it's gone. We could do far, far worse than having someone of Cody's ability, so let's not take it for granted that we could simply get someone better.
01 Jun 2026 20:14:58
Gakpo hit the post three times when Man Utd won at Anfield.
01 Jun 2026 20:21:31
Ed, slum landlord? Telll us more.
{Ed001's Note - he has a bunch of places in the Netherlands that are in a terrible state and he overcharges for. They don't get looked after at all.}
01 Jun 2026 21:09:58
Gakpo is not a terrible player but he is not a starter either.
He has a great work ethic, tracks his man well and presses well.
But his finishing is inconsistent, he can't pass very well and he often slows down attacks by cutting inside.
He actually reminds me of another Dutch player, Kuyt. It's finesse that both players lack, but when you're 2-0 up and want someone to tire down defences and break up play on the wing then there are few players better than Gakpo.
He's just not the guy you want going forward. Coaches in the summer need to train him out of cutting inside and hitting the first man all the time. Drill it into his head to get to the byline and cut it across for Hugo/Isak.
01 Jun 2026 21:27:48
I think people have turned on Gakpo now because of the amount of wages he's getting. Ridiculous money for a decent player. But nowhere near worth the 250+ he's rumoured earning now. For all we get out of him these days.
I hope he can adapt well and show his quality because he does have a good physical ability.
He just doesn't use it as we want him to.
That's what the club should be looking into. Whoever did that needs their head looked at lol.
That's football now I guess....
01 Jun 2026 20:42:59
Ed001 So what your telling us is he is no Robbie Fowler ;).
01 Jun 2026 20:53:30
This is why you have you, Ed. Depressing intel. But it gives context.
{Ed001's Note - it is particularly annoying when he gives out all the god stuff but has no christian values. So fake.}
01 Jun 2026 22:01:22
Gakpo won 56 (Haaland 73) aerial challenges. Sometimes that's what he did best.
01 Jun 2026 22:00:28
Like that orange pr1ck in the White House Ed001, getting all the preachers in for a photo opp whilst having zero christian values.
02 Jun 2026 00:56:24
Given Hugo's injury, it wouldn't make sense to sell Gakpo. However, I am sure Edwards would sell any of the Klopp-Ljinders buys if the right offers come in.
02 Jun 2026 02:35:13
@Torbin, Facts are useless, mate. There is a far greater preference for made up stuff in support of dodgy opinions these days.
02 Jun 2026 09:34:13
Ed001, not sure if you've done one, but it might be worth doing a player profile on Gakpo (focusing on his time at LFC? )
Not sure if you've ever broken down why you think he's good vs what other are interpreting/seeing. I have seen you (like above) say others must be blind, but I've never seen a constructive positive breakdown of his style of play. Might help the back and forth?
{Ed001's Note - ok.}
02 Jun 2026 10:29:15
Abysmal judge of players, says the fella who spent five years telling us Mo's agent was desperate to get him to Madrid as Mo was desperate to get out.
Good one.
Gakpo is rubbish.
Isak doesn't run enough.
Flo is exceptional but might not be right for us.
We shouldn't have let Quansah go without securing Guehi first.
Abysmal judge. You were less daft when you were on UEFA.conforums.
{Ed001's Note - my god you are an imbecile, I said completely the opposite to that, I always said Mo wanted to stay and loves Liverpool. So quit the lies, you are just a moron ranting out of stupidity. And I have no idea what UEFA.conforums is. Idiot.}
02 Jun 2026 10:30:25
Rio is what 17 as ed1 has said shouldn't be anywhere near the first team and how many 17 year old players look great but never kick on? I really don't think he will and think he will become a billy big bollocks, probably ask for a transfer as soon as he thinks he's made it
