Any updates on these contracts? It’s January 10th and gone a bit quiet, yet it is slowly going from facade to farce.

It's already a farce Lowe.

2.) 10 Jan 2025 12:13:06
The longer it goes on the more I believe all three will be leaving us.

3.) 10 Jan 2025 12:24:23
Agreed Salah.

Call me cynical, but you have to wonder if these stories being put out about Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen by Joyce and Ornstein are being orchestrated by Hughes/ Edwards/ Ward to take the heat off the discussion about the contracts, a nice thoroughly implausible transfer story as a distraction to change the current narrative, even if only for the duration of the January window.

5.) 10 Jan 2025 13:00:03
Is it tinfoil hat time already?

Jeeez JLC, at first glance I thought you were telling us that Salah was agreed! Please be more careful. Think of the speed readers.

. I'll get my coat.

There is no reason to believe Wirtz wouldn’t be interested in a move to us should the opportunity arise, but Liverpool are unlikely to compete for him given the wealth of those clubs who would also be interested. Wirtz’s next contract will likely be for between £250k - £400k pw and Bayer 04 will command at least £80m for him. Liverpool won’t even contemplate such a move.

My word it was difficult listening to Ferdinand try and do analysis with Slot. If this is the average level of retired pros, no wonder they all get sacked so quickly.
Just ask the questions and let us listen to what Slot has to say, damn it.

This season we'll be fine. We can be patient with signings for now because we'll only need 10 or 11 more wins from 17 games to win the league given that Arsenal aren't winning 14 of their last 16 games. That said, we need to get contracts sorted as a priority and buy 3 top-quality players in the summer (left back/ centre back, central midfielder and a striker if Darwin/ Jota go) .

KBL - Gvardiol is a good player for sure, but his defending still needs a lot of work. By far the best signing of the listed bunch and will probably go on to be a big success.

Fiskesprett - Villa haven’t dropped off - they’re 3 points off top 4 and almost through to the last 16 of the CL. The CL would have likely impacted on their early season form, but it’s more that Chelsea have largely got their act together while Bournemouth are having an amazing season as to why they’re 7th.
Emery continues to do a cracking job at another upper-mid-sized club.

That's 425m on players. The thing is, I don't think your valuations are far off, which is why I think that outlay is so unrealistic.
Ironically, if we signed Trent, Salah and VVD to new deals, we may actually have the outgoings + budget to fund Cunha, Isak, Huijsen and Hato without needing lesser-quality replacements in Mbeumo and Frimpong (they're both good players) .

Vango - It may have been a free hit for Slot before we got 12 points in front, but not anymore. We have to win this league and that's all there is to it.

I agree Viktor. They may drop points, but it won’t be as easily done as a lot of our fans believe. Arsenal look miles better when they take the lead because they seem to actually give a damn about defending.

Nonsense, RedChester. The reaction to our 6th draw in 13 PL games is perfectly justified, as many rightly fear another season like last, where our title charge collapsed in short order and was blamed on all sorts of factors.
We can’t defend despite having the (supposedly) best defender and goalkeeper of all time, and our attackers are useless outside Salah and Gakpo.
We are conceding set pieces and flick ons in the middle of a title race - a sign that the players are unfocused.

I agree. The problem with our newer, technical midfield is that they shirk tackles too often, MacAllister being the most guilty (this is the main reason I'm open to selling him) . Endo never shirks tackles, which is noticeable as soon as he comes on because the opposition stop winning so many second balls.
