Ed2 can you please inform what is the status of Salah. is he seeing out his contract. it will be loss to Liverpool. Thanks.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - Mo Salah (RW) His agent is hawking him around for one last big payday - Saudi Pro League with the support of Michael Emenalo would certainly seem the most likely destination with Al-Ittihad. Liverpool will look to try and do something to have him extend but his agent will look for a significant increase in salary and Salah has told Liverpool he wants to play in the Olympics and has told Egypt that he will be available for the Olympic Games in Paris, but as a non-FIFA tournament the club can stop him. His agent will also be encouraged to have Salah run down his contract over the next year at Liverpool in exchange for a huge signing on fee in the summer of 2025. Certainly now it is decision time.}

1.) 09 Jun 2024 08:56:11
I can see salah letting his contract run out. Think both vvd and trent will extend but don't think salah will.

2.) 09 Jun 2024 09:11:40
Yeh i agree Digger, sadly.

3.) 09 Jun 2024 09:30:51
Ed002. I find it unlikely the club will go even higher with his wages. He's already paid significantly more than the rest of the squad. I can only see him leaving on a free at the end of the season. Small chance we sell for a reduced fee this summer but I don't think Salah will want to, unless a big Spanish club.

4.) 09 Jun 2024 10:17:40
Isn’t Salah earning enough?! I hope the Club don’t pay him any more.
LFC have had the best of his playing days.
Either sell him or let his contract run down .
We only paid approx £40million for him I think .
We’ve had our moneys worth out of him .
Give him two options…. Stay on same wages or go .

5.) 09 Jun 2024 10:08:49
Ed002, thinking about some of the possible replacements for Salah that get discussed and I’m wondering whether we’ve developed any interest in Olise or Kudus yet?

Olise has a semi reasonable release clause and looks more ready for a step up to a big team than the likes of Bakayoko, and I thought Kudus situation might have changed given West Ham are likely not going to be able to raise funds through Paqueta anymore? It would surprise me if the pair of them aren’t on the list as I think they’re the two standout young right wingers at the moment.

{Ed002's Note - Mohammed Kudus (AM) West Ham are not looking to sell but an offer over £70M could tempt them. Manchester United are keen but see the cost as far too high. Chelsea and Newcastle interest went last summer when he signed for West Ham. Brighton interest went during transfer negotiations. I am not aware of Liverpool showing any interest.

Michael Olise (RW/AM) PSG and Manchester City want him as cover although the departure of Mahrez last summer will mean more opportunities now, but the RW position is effectively Foden's. If de Bruyne were to depart, he becomes an option again - and I expect de Bruyne to move this summer. Crystal Palace has no real interest in selling but know that Chelsea want to take Olise back to Stamford Bridge and Olise has made clear that one day he wants to be playing alongside his brother. Certainly near the top of the list of AM players Chelsea want and they will again perhaps push for him as he is achievable. His representative has said no other clubs have made any formal approach for Olise although Arsenal and Manchester United have also regularly sent scouts and he may end up first choice for Manchester United. Liverpool has no interest in him and can be discounted. Will be available in the summer when a significant release clause will need to be met.}

6.) 09 Jun 2024 11:20:43
“We only paid approx 40 million” ??.

7.) 09 Jun 2024 12:02:51
Salah should have been sold last year, letting it get to this position where he has all the power, for a the club, is just stupid.
His agent has said all along that if he gets to his last year of contract he will not be sold and he will go on a free.
But football is a strange old game and maybe he souldn't be looking at the two in the bush as we can see him start to decline.

8.) 09 Jun 2024 12:17:30
Was one of the biggest bargains we've ever signed in fairness WDW.

9.) 09 Jun 2024 13:02:32
Salah needs new agents - every year they’re doing their best to sell him to everyone and yet they can’t seem to manage it.

Every single year.

10.) 09 Jun 2024 16:28:15
Ed02, if I may ask, do agents get their commissions if their players stay and sign a new contract?

{Ed002's Note - They get paid for negotiating a new contract.}

11.) 09 Jun 2024 17:33:43
If its on the cards for salah to go on a free then pressure needs to be applied to him, sign his replacement now and make it clear that you mr salah will be on the bench all season or you can go now even if its reduced for 30m its 30m more than nothing.

12.) 10 Jun 2024 01:26:52
@Jude, with hindsight I agree but at the time he wasn’t exactly flavour of the month with cognoscenti on this very board.

That aside, I’m quite happy to take donations from people who see £ 40 m as not very much. I’m more than happy to provide a good home for any spare million or two that people don’t have any use for ?.

04 Apr 2024 04:11:28
ED2 any views on Rafael leao. is Liverpool looking to sign him. Thanks.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note There is a chance he will move this summer but not to Liverpool.}

1.) 04 Apr 2024 14:29:48
We don't need any more left sided forwards.

28 Mar 2024 04:16:32
ED2.sorry if you have answered it already but which positions Liverpool will be looking to strengthen in summer. Thanks.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - A GK, perhaps 2, perhaps a LB, a CB, a versatile DM/CM, a RW and perhaps a versatile F depending on departures.}

1.) 28 Mar 2024 10:11:11
Hi Mr Ed002

Are there any goalkeepers we are tracking or you think would be a good option for the number 2/ 3? Assuming Allison is staying :)

Perhaps Vitezslav Jaros can replace Caoimhin Kelleher, if he leaves.

Also, I saw mention of Maximilian Beier a while ago. Looks like a good player. Is he on the list for the versatile forward?

Much thanks as ever!

{Ed002's Note - The situation with the goalkeepers is perhaps something like this:
Marcelo Pitaluga (G) Needs to consider his future or bide his time at Liverpool.
Caoimhín Kelleher (G) Decision time for the player and Wolves may try to tempt him after some scouting. Celtic have spoken with his representative.
Vitezslav Jaros (G) Having a good loan at Sturm Graz and perhaps an option to take over as number two but he may want more game time.
Adrian (G) Out of contract in the summer and will depart.

Maximilian Beier (S/F) Opted for a contract extension at Hoffenheim over a move to Brentford after a loan at Hannover. Seen as a potential Hlozek replacement for Bayer Leverkusen or a Sesko Replacement for RBL. Everton, Liverpool and Luton have sent scouts to watch the player. May be available in the summer.

2.) 28 Mar 2024 11:21:46
I can't believe there are not more of the 'top tier' clubs sniffing around Kelleher. In Alissons absence, he has been excellent and whilst certainly not the best in the world, he would be an excellent No 1 for most top clubs.

3.) 28 Mar 2024 11:23:55
Potentially a lot more activity than we expect it seems, especially given the team is doing well and the kids are doing a brilliant job of providing quality depth. Of those positions Ed mentions, a Matip replacement has to be the priority.

We have essentially replaced Thiago already with MacAllister imo. Endo is doing remarkably well and the question there is whether he can physically deliver another season to give Bajcetic time to build himself up for the rigours of the Premier League.

The rest depends on the players who have decisions to make ie Kelleher, Tsimikas, Salah (yikes) and Diaz (if the constant rumours are anything to go by) .

Ugh, a summer window I am the least excited by regardless of the incomings because it will be without a certain German fella at the helm. Not ready!

4.) 28 Mar 2024 13:39:56
Maybe kelleher doesn’t want to leave so that’s why no one trying for him?

5.) 28 Mar 2024 14:10:28
Agree with Stuie. Kelleher has taken a step up this year and I think LFC would be foolish to let him move on. Alisson is obviously incredible and one of the best, but will be 32 next year and has had a couple longer stretches being out with injury in recent years. If LFC didn't have Kelleher, they would likely be looking for someone like Kelleher to support Alisson. I guess my concern is that the timing isn't right by about a year or two. Kelleher obviously wants to be first choice somewhere right now and his minutes at LFC are dependent on Alisson's health. I don't really see a good situation where they could share minutes because I think that isn't great for either keeper's form. Form is dependent on regular minutes. It will be interesting to see how/ if this develops more.

6.) 28 Mar 2024 14:59:50
If Kelleher is happy to stay then we are golden.

Alternatively, if he leaves and Pitaluga continues to live up to the earlier hype about him, I would move him to No2 behind Alisson and look to an experienced goalkeeper in the Adrian mould to come in as No2/ 3 (when Pitaluga is ready for No2 he takes that spot) .

Ed002, is Ron Robert Zieler a possibility still? I know he was mooted last year when Kelleher may have left, and he has the advantage of being HG given the time he spent at Man Utd in his early years.

{Ed002's Note - Kelleher is at a decision point - move and play or stay on the bench at Liverpool. Marcelo Pitaluga needs to consider his future or bide his time at Liverpool. Struggling in the League of Ireland.

Ron Robert Zieler (G) 35 and out of contract in the summer - Home Grown is likely now the only advantage for English sides.}

7.) 28 Mar 2024 15:23:08
I remember when Ron Robert Zieler was a supposed “wonder kid”. Gosh this makes me feel old.

8.) 28 Mar 2024 15:29:05
I think somewhere like Wolves (or that level) would be perfect for Kelleher.
A top tier club might just be out of reach for him considering he was only 2nd choice here and would probably be seen as slightly under tested to be number 1 at another top club. He’s stepped up when needed and we rate him but it’s still a bit of a risk id say.
It would be nice if he does well at wolves or somewhere for a season or two before going to a top tier club to be number 1, maybe even back here? Who knows.
I do think he needs to move on though for his career.

9.) 28 Mar 2024 16:05:59
Ed, is there no possibility of the club doing a long term loan, similar to what happened with Courtois? It gets him the first choice minutes and also allows time for the changeover when alisson moves on or retires.

{Ed002's Note - I don’t see that being considered at all.}

10.) 28 Mar 2024 16:27:24
What about Harvey Davies Ed002? Seems to be doing alright at Crewe.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool.}

11.) 28 Mar 2024 17:11:32
I thought we might go for Grabara since hed be home grown and club developed but he's moving to Wolfsburg. Would that potentially make Casteels available? Backup keeper probably the hardest position to convince someone half decent to sign as.

{Ed002's Note - Tge club has no interest in all of these random players.}

12.) 28 Mar 2024 20:58:57
The top tier clubs already have top keepers.

13.) 29 Mar 2024 12:49:55
@Faith - all except Everton ……….

14.) 29 Mar 2024 13:08:47
Marcelo Pitaluga is having a mare in the league of ireland for St Pats with some high profile errors. I think he's been at fault for 3 or 4 goals in as many games.

23 Mar 2024 04:54:06
ED2 there is news circulating that Real Madrid is looking to sign Trent. How true is this and what is the contract situation at Liverpool. Thanks.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB/RWB/RM) Seen by Real Madrid as an othing to Reece James. May offer an exchange for Rodrygo Goes. I am not aware of a new contract being offered just yet but it will likely be on the to do list of Edwards.}

1.) 23 Mar 2024 15:13:35
He could definitely go as Bellinghams there. I hope we don't go stupid on wages for him. If mardrid offer a huge amount and he wants the move, then so be it.

2.) 23 Mar 2024 15:51:47
Didn't Trent sign a new contract a short while back?

3.) 23 Mar 2024 16:54:33
Depends entirely on Trent's position for me (and I suspect for him as well) . If the club see him as a full back I reckon he'll want to go as he sees himself as a midfielder. In this instance I would sell him. If we play him as the right sided CM I think he's priceless and I think that's want he's going to want as well to sign a new deal. Really want this to happen. Been saying the same thing for nearly 5 years.

4.) 23 Mar 2024 18:58:24
The thumbs up are amazing Mizer.

5.) 24 Mar 2024 05:24:59
I was over in Liverpool last August and mentioned on here last September that I’d been told by a relative who knows a couple of people ‘associated with the club’ that TAA was learning Spanish. The person who told me seemed to believe that what he was saying was true.

6.) 24 Mar 2024 08:29:27
TAA touted as generation Talent but unfortunately at wrong timing as Liverpool academy is producing a generation of generational talents.

7.) 24 Mar 2024 09:36:09
I can see TAA fitting in well at Real Madrid and he's better than Dani Carvajal. He'd be playing with the likes of Mbappe, Valverde, Tchouaméni, Vinicius Júnior, Bellingham, Camavinga, Endrick, Alphonso Davies. He'd play under Ancelotti for a couple of seasons and then maybe reunite with Klopp.

8.) 24 Mar 2024 09:44:48
Ultimately if Madrid want him and he wants to go, then it’s not the end of the world, particularly if they’d be prepared to offer Rodrygo in part exchange. Bradley has shown he’s more than capable at right back so it’s not like we’d be left short.

9.) 24 Mar 2024 11:16:19
Trent will sign a new long term contract before the start of next season. He wants to stay, absolutely no interest in joining RM.

10.) 24 Mar 2024 11:43:46
Trents a lifer, great having Bradley coming through but this is TAA were talking about. With a year left Madrid are only sniffing around with the hope they could unsettle him and get him on the cheap.

11.) 24 Mar 2024 14:27:56
Just a theoretical question.

If Trent stays and is moved to midfield who is he replacing in people’s strongest 3 and if he stays at Right back what does that mean for Bradley moving forward?

Either way it’s good problems to have for whoever the new manager is.

12.) 24 Mar 2024 15:37:51
Doesn't Alonso play with three at the back? If so then TAA isn't replacing anyone in midfield.

{Ed001's Note - he has played 4 at the back as well.}

13.) 24 Mar 2024 18:09:36
You really have to laugh concerning trent. No player is predictable. If Madrid put in a huge offer, the club will listen to it and so will trent. I'd put money on trent making the move too. Probably double the wages and seeing himself as a superstar in sunny Spain is highly attractive.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely MIZER..

14.) 24 Mar 2024 19:06:24
The thought of losing Trent going into the season was unthinkable. Now not so much with the emergence of Bradley. If the money is right and he wants the move, it's good for both parties then good luck to the lad. Be hard to turn down playing with those players in THAT stadium and living in the sun. But I'll be ecstatic if he extends w us. Win-win.

15.) 24 Mar 2024 19:10:36
Ed025, i find a lot of fans soo naive because he's a "Liverpool lad". His demeanor changed long ago and he's an arrogance to him. I don't care what he does behind the scenes or the PR stuff. Either Liverpool will offer stupid wages and he'll show his "loyalty" or if his contract isn't sorted straight away and Madrid are knocking with a serious offer, he's gone. His best mate and arguably now the most famous footballer in the world is in mardrid in Bellingham and I'm sure all that would suit him. I could care less if he goes. I support players that want to be here and the club is far bigger than anyone that always ends up leaving.

{Ed025's Note - your spot on MIZER, i have always said that if a player is not fully committed to the club then move them on, its very naive to think that a player was going to stay because hes a local lad mate...it just doesn,t work like that..its all about the money..

16.) 24 Mar 2024 19:13:22
I’ve seen it rain in Madrid @Mizer.

17.) 25 Mar 2024 00:34:43
‘No player is bigger than the club’ is often touted and completely true, but to compete at the very top of the game you need players that can do the extraordinary.

Trent is one of those game changers (like Salah and VVD) and is able to create chances with his passes that very few others can even see, let alone deliver.

We let him go at our peril, because replacing him with another game changer at the highest level would not be cheap or easy.

18.) 25 Mar 2024 09:01:49
Unless they come through our Academy system @SG.

19.) 25 Mar 2024 19:20:03
the 'no player is bigger than the club' line gets touted out when someone doesn't like a player.

The generation of generational talents coming out of the academy are highly unlikely to altogether deliver the production that Trent did at the same age.

I really think people are so un-loyal to our own players we forget what we actually have.

{Ed025's Note - loyalty is a two way street though faith..

20.) 26 Mar 2024 10:15:03
25 - got it but you’re not saying Trent hasn’t been loyal are you? I’m assuming you’re saying that as a general statement and I’m sure you’ll understand the nuance of what I’m saying here.

Here we have a Liverpool kid, risen through the academy, turned into a superstar, now has a few defensive lapses and suddenly there are fans ready to fling him off for next new model off the conveyor belt. That kind of “fan loyalty” is gross to me and imo is where the “loyalty goes two ways ends.

{Ed025's Note - it was a generalization faith of course, i dont know about "superstar" but hes certainly a talented player who could become one, i get what you mean about fan loyalty though mate and was dismayed what a couple on here were saying about Darwin after the United game, im afraid its the symptom of the microwave generation these days..

21.) 27 Mar 2024 10:21:13
25 - and the Gakpo hate after the Manu game too. Genuinely embarrassed to read some of the comments from our fans. For me, fans job is to be loyal until a player gives a reason otherwise. And by reason, I don’t mean missing a goal or a tackle I mean something like a player becomes toxic, sits out etc etc players make mistakes and surely our job is to support them to do better. Like what’s the point wasting energy bagging on our own players lol not like we can just replace them every weekend hahahaha.

14 Mar 2024 15:24:35
ED2. posting 2nd time. just wanted your opinion who according to you will be worthy replacement for Klopp.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - Julian Nagelsmann (C) perhaps.}

1.) 14 Mar 2024 16:55:13
Maybe technically okay for the job but Nagelsmann maybe not suited temperamentally…. don’t know if LFC fans would take to him. Tough to come in after Klopp.

If we can’t get Xabi I wouldn’t mind if Pep had a go…. My thinking there would be that if it was a success then great and if not Klopp might come back after a year off recharging his batteries.

2.) 14 Mar 2024 18:40:37
Why keep asking the same questions?

3.) 15 Mar 2024 01:24:35
If we can’t get Alonso it’s Amorim for me. Next best thing. As for Nagelsmann is a big no for me and probably most other Liverpool fans. I trust Edwards to land either one of the two I mentioned.

4.) 15 Mar 2024 07:09:15
Nagelsmann was unfairly fired by Bayern. His style of play is very good and unpredictable against park bus team. His Leipzig team easily defeated Athletico Madrid in past.

5.) 15 Mar 2024 07:35:52
Few things to think about here. Alonso may feel his chance will come around again when he has more experience under his belt.

There is also the poison chalice aspect, some managers may think they would prefer to be the manager after the next manager.

JN would be a good fit all round I think. Similar style of play, young and dynamic.

6.) 15 Mar 2024 08:03:11
The Liverpool jobs not a bus andy. Pass up the chance to get onboard now and it may never come around again. Some other new coach could be flavour of the month by then.

7.) 15 Mar 2024 08:07:41
Rather have jn than pep, we need to keep an open mind as much as people think alonso is nailed on he isn’t . would trust ed2 more than most.

8.) 15 Mar 2024 08:21:31
Do you think Pep would leave City? ?.

9.) 15 Mar 2024 08:43:27
I would give it to pep for a year, now ME is back let’s just let things organically progress, my fear is any new manager may bring wholesale changes rather than nurture what we have. Pep would keep things pretty similar I reckon, what do you lads think?

10.) 15 Mar 2024 12:01:15
The same pep that people wanted out of the club not so long ago for having to much influence on the team? I've watched sporting a few times and I'm not convinced by amorim if we couldn't get alonso id rather Michel from girona or naaglesmann, just my opinion though ;)

{Ed002's Note - You can forget Michel.}

11.) 15 Mar 2024 14:07:44
We should look at Simone Inzaghi.

{Ed002's Note - Why? Would he be a good fit? Knows the English game well?}

12.) 15 Mar 2024 14:48:53
I have no idea why people would want Amorim over Nagelsmann. Nagelsmann is far more tested. Portuguese league is too unreliable a way to determine whether a manager is good enough for LFC.

13.) 15 Mar 2024 15:44:09
Is Michel lined up for another job ed? Surely fsg would've considered him with the job he's doing at girona.

{Ed002's Note - He is not available and not moving to Liverpool.}

14.) 15 Mar 2024 18:02:51
Still don’t get why anyone would want Nagelsmann after he made it absolutely clear he holds us as a club in nothing but contempt. He really should not be in any consideration for the job after what he said.

15.) 15 Mar 2024 18:19:45
Klopp has had the weight of half a city on his shoulders. Many would buckle under that pressure.
I imagine he will want a job with with less pressure next time around, like Real, where the team wins and wins, regardless. He would not be idolised in Real in the same way.

16.) 15 Mar 2024 18:50:38
@TB2, I think it’s some weird sort of therapy.

17.) 15 Mar 2024 19:44:28
I have heard a whisper that Alonso's camp have said he is very, very interested in the Liverpool job.

Just a whisper, could have been the cat.

18.) 15 Mar 2024 19:45:20
Is this a wind up Bastion?

19.) 15 Mar 2024 23:20:16
To all the Nagelsmann fans. Have a look into his antics, for lack of a better word from his time at Bayern. I’ll leave it there.

20.) 16 Mar 2024 01:07:08
Ed2 - do you know why nagelsman is getting a bit of a bad rep?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any bad reputation.}

21.) 16 Mar 2024 11:13:42
I suppose the ‘bad reputation’ has got to do with his personal life?

Not to sure if that’s a factor with the Liverpool fans.

Footballing wise, think he’s got a very good reputation, still developing his style fully but am still young and already one of the better managers amongst the next generation. Not sure he’s at the level of Klopp though, not yet at least.

{Ed001's Note - no, it is to do with a struggle to cope with egos and the way he gave exclusive intimate access to the players to his journalist gf, of a type that none of them were comfortable with. It was considered by many to be intrusive. She was pretty much there like she was on the coaching staff.

22.) 16 Mar 2024 11:34:16
This current version of Nagelsmann is giving me Brendan Rodgers vibes. Lairy jackets, skateboards and journo girlfriends. It trigggers memories of Brendan's summer glow up and new mistress.

Difficult to look past Alonso, with Amorim as the second choice. De Zerbi and Nagelsmann behind those two.

23.) 16 Mar 2024 15:57:07
thanks ed 01
oh whao, didn't know that
guess there was more to his sacking than I was aware.

24.) 18 Mar 2024 00:57:09
I actually agree with looking at inzaghi. Inter play great football, very positive and he's quite a galvanizing character.

If the reason against is 'doesnt know the English game' you'd be surprised at how much he loves the premier league and respects the way the game is played here, he's also a very big Liverpool fan too.

Ed1 - there is news that Real Madrid is looking to sign Konate for free. This is insane and seems like club is not learning the lesson.

praveenlfc

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure how this is Liverpool not learning the lesson.}

1.) 08 May 2025 08:21:58
The club cannot afford to punish Konate or any main stream player by dropping them to the bench. If we drop konate then we have to play Quansah. The cost of replacing Konate would be somehwere near £70 mill and I can't see the club splashing that sum just to teach konate a lesson.
why do you think we exended VVD lol. the cost of replacing him would be £100 mill.

2.) 08 May 2025 08:29:58
So we started negotiations with Konate last year and he rejected the contract and we still haven’t tied him up in the Anfield basement and pulled his fingernails out?

When will we learn?

3.) 08 May 2025 09:09:34
If you offer a player a contract, and he declines it, I don't understand how it's the club needing to learn lessons.

4.) 08 May 2025 09:17:40
If we won't sign offer him to Psg for cut price and sign Huijsen who will then get in the first team as he wants.

5.) 08 May 2025 09:19:17
If he is talking with Madrid then try and sell if possible.

With it being a World Cup he will want to play so if he’s waiting for Madrid then either agree a new one year extension with a release clause of 30million or If he wants run his contract down then I would buy a replacement this summer and he can be on the bench for a year.

{Ed078's Note - any new thoughts Ed001?

6.) 08 May 2025 09:22:43
Don’t stress about things you can’t control. We will put a team out next season that will be competitive and the same the year after and so on.
It would be nice if Konate signed a new deal, but if he refuses and refuses to be sold (which he is well within his rights), then he will become a free agent and there is nothing we can do about it.
We have lost better players than Trent and konate in the past, yet we are still winning trophies!

7.) 08 May 2025 09:29:16
@House of Cards - you are talking some drivel on these pages recently.

“why do you think we exended VVD lol. the cost of replacing him would be £100 mill. ”

We extended Van Dijks contract because he’s an excellent centre half, arguably the best in the world still. That’s why we extended his contract.

8.) 08 May 2025 10:06:36
We extended Van Dijks contract because he’s an excellent centre half, arguably the best in the world still.
Also if he leaves we will need to replace him with a player that would cost £100 mill in todays market.
The club would have needed 7-8 players had Salah and VVD did not extend. do you really think that is even doable? mind you both Salah and VVD walks away for free and we get nothing in return.

what exactly are you disagreeing with me mate?

9.) 08 May 2025 10:48:19
Does make you wonder if Chelsea are on to something with 7 year contracts to keep their players away from Madrid.

10.) 08 May 2025 11:07:54
Real Madrid journos threatening that Real will sign Ibou on a free and have entered the Dean Huijsen race the day after we play hardball on early release terms for Trent to go to the CWC?

Just another day at Real Madrid.

11.) 08 May 2025 12:14:36
Yes Goldstars but we have never lost better players than Trent and Ibou for FREE and expected to still win trophies. We are not City/ PSG we simply cannot afford the hit.

{Ed001's Note - there is not a lot we can do now, it was last year Konate's contract should have been either extended or him sold. He is a good player, but not really great as he has far too many mistakes and off days. He should be easily replaced by a player who can do as well as he has, so get the replacement in and then get rid if he is not going to re-sign.}

12.) 08 May 2025 12:38:19
Yes Viktor, why don't we give 7 year contracts to everyone and be saddled with players and big salaries we can't get rid of if we need to.

13.) 08 May 2025 12:45:40
The one thing I would say is that at least we made an offer at the soonest point with Konate so we can now make a decision, I think we should say to Konate take it or leave it, if he says leave it, then go and get Huijsen and let him know he’s first choice alongside Van Dijk and Konate has the option of being cover and warming the bench or accepting a transfer out.

14.) 08 May 2025 13:04:59
Finally something I agree with VV on. Sign a new first choice CB first and then let Konate know that he’s become 3rd choice and will be playing from the bench in 25/ 26. If anyone wants him then I’m sure his agent can find a buyer, he won’t want to miss out on a WC. I get all the stuff about players being transient employees but when you pay £40m for them you really don’t want them manipulating a Bosman when they fancy, we need to get some of our outlay back.

15.) 08 May 2025 13:48:25
@House of cards - you’re talking about punishing players and teaching them a lesson.

It’s all just a load of conjecture nonsense.

VVD was signed because the club wanted him to continue playing for us. It’s as simple as that.

16.) 08 May 2025 16:36:41
Kind of piggy backing on this to ask generally about contracts expiring and how clubs deal with it.

Using Konate just as an example. You can't force someone to leave if they don't want to. I understand how clubs can't just sell a player which doesn't want to leave, even though a lot don't seem to understand that.

But are there ways to motivate them to leave, IE if someone came in for Konate for 70m (just picking a number), obviously he'd get a big bonus for leaving as a free. But essentially "covering" the sign on bonus he'd get for leaving on a free from the 70m as a way to motivate him to leave without being a free?

Is this something that generally does/ can happen? It obviously doesn't stop another club telling the player to just wait and save the transfer fee, but if they want to leave, and can get a signing bonus anyway.

17.) 08 May 2025 17:25:05
The vast majority of players when they are told they are no longer first choice will look to leave and not just sit on the bench.

18.) 08 May 2025 19:01:39
And that’s how we should play it with Konate I reckon Markp08. Replace him now and then tell him he’s third choice so that he pushes for a move. Failing that this RM/ PSG stuff could all be made up nonsense but we need to understand his intentions asap so that we don’t lose another £50m player for £0.

While I am happy with the result but it is so painful to watch Everton. Every time they seems to be playing for draw only and seems to be content with it.

To be fair they gave arsenal every bit as hard a game as they gave us, whether or not their style is watchable is neither here nor there. They have though given us a huge opportunity to further open up the lead.

Ed1 - I have a query. How come we will earn 60Mn on our new deal while Man united earn substantially more at 90Mn a year. Looks like our deal is not better than theirs. Thanks.

praveenlfc

{Ed001's Note - I don't know as I don't know the details. On the face of it, it sounds like a terrible deal as we have outsold everyone in recent years.}

1.) 10 Mar 2025 15:29:19
Apparently we were getting 30 a year from Nike so a decent jump.

2.) 10 Mar 2025 15:33:52
I read above 60m. So hopefully it is more.

3.) 10 Mar 2025 16:19:33
Terrible deal. Just have to win the champions league to make up for it ??‍♂️??.

4.) 10 Mar 2025 16:37:51
That’s what is reported above £60m. They don’t know the exact figures. Nike was higher so it won’t be less than that. We do still have a problem signing very top end deals even when we are successful. I have been banging on about it for years.

5.) 10 Mar 2025 16:51:57
That's true about the sales Ed. Wherever you go in the world, you see a lot more Liverpool than United shirts these days. It isn't 10 years ago. The fan who is new to football and is looking for a team to support doesn't go to United anymore as the aura around the whole club is so miserable and toxic. I was shocked at the £60m figure as we got £25m a year from Warrior back in 2010 when we were pants and not in the Champions League.

{Ed001's Note - the figures were released a few months back and we had sold the most mate. I wasn't being facetious or guessing, our kit sales have been exceptional over the last couple of years.}

6.) 10 Mar 2025 17:19:39
Yeah I know Ed. I was just giving my anecdotal experience how things have changed. For a long time there was this narrative that United are disappointing on the pitch but a revenue powerhouse however they have been disappointing on the pitch for so long now that they don't have that revenue advantage like they used to as they don't attract new fans.

{Ed025's Note - I think they have enough fans BR. But on the pitch they are a complete mess mate..

7.) 10 Mar 2025 17:32:27
Utd also have a £10 million clause for failing to qualify for the Champions League, starting next season, and any subsequent season, I believe.

8.) 10 Mar 2025 18:13:30
The Nike deal was £30m then % of sales so would have been lot more.

9.) 10 Mar 2025 17:49:04
Success breeds fans Ed25. When you win things, you gain fans all around the world. United haven't won the Premier League or a Champions League for a while. A lot of clubs are more attractive to the new generation of fan than United right now and it's been that way for a few years now.

10.) 10 Mar 2025 18:34:00
Really, Ed01? Now that's quite surprising.

{Ed001's Note - we have always been up there, but the Klopp era has put us back at the top.}

11.) 10 Mar 2025 19:17:21
The details of the deal aren't easy to find, however, I read from someone today that we still get a slice of sales (like we have with Nike) . So it's £30m more a year than we get now and probably quite a decent deal.
Not sure if it's 100% true so don't quite mean if not!

12.) 10 Mar 2025 19:41:20
We can’t even wear the new kit for pre season.

13.) 10 Mar 2025 21:05:29
I wonder how much financial value Klopp actually added to the club compared to when he first joined. FSG must be absolutely delighted they signed him.

14.) 10 Mar 2025 23:39:13
United are getting penalty clauses deducted from the contract for failing to meet obligations needed go get that sum. They’re not getting £90m.

Ours is a minimum of £60m plus a percentage of merchandise sales and the deal is said to be more generous than the Nike deal. For comparison we’re said to have raked in £118m from Nike for 22/ 23 on its own.

15.) 11 Mar 2025 15:42:48
50 years old and still putting a Liverpool kit over the top of a United or City kit in store ??
I am so immature.

All in all he is very good buy. infact a shrewd one considering his stock would have almost doubled. situations are quite frequent and common in football and on field results can change everything.
