Hello all,
Adam Wharton has now emerged as Iraola’s first choice midfield target.
Talks between the two clubs have resumed, a deal which sees Harvey Elliott go the other way (separate deals) is being discussed.
A lot tougher transfer now than it was a few weeks ago for various reasons.
Let’s see how it plays out, the player has his heart set on Anfield.
Ta.
02 Jul 2026 22:26:20
Knew you'd come through with an update, Carra! Thanks!
02 Jul 2026 22:27:05
£100m+ for a midfielder who can't defend feels extremely frivolous.
02 Jul 2026 22:28:04
Cheers, Carra.
02 Jul 2026 22:33:00
Cheers, Carra.
02 Jul 2026 22:33:38
Cheers, Carra.
02 Jul 2026 22:34:57
Again, will wait with bated breath!!
02 Jul 2026 22:35:41
I'm praying we can get him at a decent fair price.
But I think we missed that chance.
In this insane market, and the recent transfer deals.
Crystal Palace probably gonna be asking for £110+ mil.
02 Jul 2026 22:40:14
Thanks for the update, Carra.
02 Jul 2026 22:40:22
Cheers, Carra.
Wharton is a midfielder I've always wanted, so I'm chuffed that Iraola wants him and that we're in talks to get the deal done.
On a separate note, if we pull off both Wharton and Bouaddi, that's my preferred double pivot sorted.
02 Jul 2026 22:41:53
What was wrong with Tonali, at least he can move.
02 Jul 2026 22:47:57
Cheers Carra, If I'm honest, I'd much rather Baleba, I suppose we'll see how we look come pre-season.
02 Jul 2026 22:34:38
I'm sure there's medication for that VV.
02 Jul 2026 23:00:34
See Utd want him too.
02 Jul 2026 23:03:09
@Markp, The Isak saga and the hi-jacking of the V. Munoz transfer.
I could see Newcastle not wanting to do business with us for a long long time.
02 Jul 2026 23:04:30
V good player Wharton, but I think we need somebody with more defensive nous and bit more 'nastiness' in midfield. Wharton + that type of player would be great, but Wharton on his own doesn't solve our issues imo.
02 Jul 2026 23:17:52
Surprised. Very progressive passer, which is great.
I think he has horrendous pace. He can tackle when he is in the vicinity of the ball. It's getting in the vicinity when defending that's the problem.
Iraola will have to put together a plan to mask his weaknesses, and maybe it can work.
My opinion is the money can be very much better spent elsewhere on the team, like a number six. Baleba, like mentioned, would be a better fit.
02 Jul 2026 23:22:59
We were soft as diarrhoea in midfield last season and Wharton is just another soft lad and won't change that fact. It's a lot of money for not very much midfielder.
02 Jul 2026 23:26:19
Hughes should've been sacked with Arne. Can't quite grasp why he's still here making all these blatant mistakes after his failings.
03 Jul 2026 00:00:42
Really surprised by this. I think he's the wrong profile completely. I can't see how he works with Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister or Jones. In fact, the best partner we probably have right now for Wharton would be Endo in my opinion!
Shout out to PatrikBurger, who is the only poster who actually called it that Iraola would want Wharton to enhance our speed of transition and progression.
03 Jul 2026 00:18:17
Not enough home-grown players in the squad. Keep Harvey. Jones a new contract.
03 Jul 2026 00:19:19
Wharton and Camara work great for me. Will need an RB though.
02 Jul 2026 15:53:52
Hi Carra, Robbo, Fields,
I'm sorry to ask but if you can please share any updates?
Keeping fingers crossed for some decent signings.
Thanks!
02 Jul 2026 16:25:58
Everything seems quiet right now. Diomande was our goal but there seems to be a cloud over that. Hopefully we have alternatives. We shouldn't be ripped off by anyone though.
02 Jul 2026 17:01:56
They share when they have info, they're not keeping it for a rainy day, everything slows down during the World Cup.
02 Jul 2026 17:29:59
Yeah, just look at Tottenham, the World Cup has really slowed them down.
02 Jul 2026 17:48:15
We are really quiet. But honestly, I feel work is being done very quietly this year.
At least I hope it's quiet and not just not happening.
Munoz makes me think it's being done quietly.
02 Jul 2026 18:01:45
@Potassium, It's almost like Tonali and Fernandes didn't go to the World Cup...
02 Jul 2026 18:07:42
Lots and lots and lots of players didn't go to the World Cup.
02 Jul 2026 19:00:24
We should rush and buy one then, eh, just to placate you, K? :)
02 Jul 2026 19:07:44
I don't think the handling of the Diomande or Barcola pursuits has been under the radar, although it doesn't seem like we've bid for Barcola. It's almost impossible, with some of these representatives who play it out through the media, to keep things low key, it's not a reflection of the club.
I'd imagine we're working on lots of fronts, but given the squad deficiencies are obvious, you'd expect more consistent links with players.
Like at right back, for example, it should be easier to secure your preferred target there, but despite the ITKs saying Palestra was a target we didn't compete for his signature, and it's not clear where we're going next with it. That concerns me a bit unless the target is at the World Cup.
02 Jul 2026 19:16:22
Hello Wokka,
It takes even longer to get a good character reference on a player nowadays than actually signing him. First must/priority before can he actually kick a football is? Has he got any skeletons in the wardrobe or "previous", as the Old Bill often cited?
Salah is the biggest boots to replace, as goals are the biggest commodity to replace in any team.
Mo was top goal scorer every season bar last Slot season.
Gilberto Mora 17, AM Mexican superstar, will be Julian Wards second LFC signing when Hughes finally goes to El Hilal very soon. Rumour he has actually gone today? Rayan will be Wards first signing.
02 Jul 2026 19:17:25
What relevance is that, Potasium? You used Spurs as a stick to beat Chewy's post with. I pointed out it's a false comparison.
02 Jul 2026 19:34:38
Honest, this new breed of fans, no wonder people last two minutes before the pitch forks are out!
02 Jul 2026 18:47:59
Potassium, that doesn't matter, there's over 1200 of 'the best players in the world' competing in a competition that takes place during the opening weeks of the transfer window, if you don't think that has significant bearing on movement within the market, that's fine – incredibly ignorant, but fine.
02 Jul 2026 19:11:57
Anyone think there is any truth in the rumours we have spoken to Pedro Neto's agent about Pedro joining us?
02 Jul 2026 19:38:46
@Qwertzy, signings have to be right for the club. I don't want players that are not fully invested or are where they wouldn't fit in the team culture. It's good to see progress.
This helps my anxiety levels. That's where I was at with my post. But you can call me selfish if you wish. At the end of the day, it's a rumours site and most of us look forward to such updates.
02 Jul 2026 19:55:12
Elliott Anderson, Goncalo Ramos, Jan Paul Van Hecke, Marc Cucurella, Ismael Saibari, Victor Munoz. All footballers playing at the World Cup who have had transfers. If a club wants a player playing at the World Cup, they will go and get them.
02 Jul 2026 19:57:00
Is that why things have gone slightly quiet, 007, Ward in as DOF and a reappraisal of targets alongside Iraola? That would make sense.
02 Jul 2026 19:59:09
Transfer fever ramping up.
02 Jul 2026 20:55:54
Oh, so all those clubs have signed 1 player currently at the World Cup (like us)?
02 Jul 2026 21:01:58
Like crack heads waiting for their next hit.
I will provide it.
As mentioned on more than one occasion, Diomande will be a Liverpool player.
Patience, gentleman.
02 Jul 2026 21:15:36
@John Barnes is God, you got it lol!! Also, respect to your name. Barnes is my all time favourite player.
02 Jul 2026 21:17:42
I do not understand why people keep asking for rb/lb ….. that is not priority at all, the way I see it. We have 3 RBs without counting Jones and Dom, who can play there as well. We have 2 LBs, and I do not know how many more from the youngsters….
Priority is upfront!!! Wingers and striker maybe - we are short upfront for the football that A. Iraiola is playing…… Hopefully we get rid of Macca so we can buy someone with legs....
02 Jul 2026 21:12:13
John Barnes is God, so if diomande will be a Liverpool player like you, Robbo and Carra claim, (I'm not doubting you just confused). What is all the talk of PSG and them being his preferred option? Obviously we're no second choice and if that's the case I would prefer we didn't splash out a huge sum to get him.
Thanks in advance 👍
02 Jul 2026 21:31:09
Munoz is an absolute belter signing, and I think he is worth a lot more than the £34.5mil we are paying.
Watch this space for Munoz to tear it up this season and become one of the first names on the Team Sheet.
02 Jul 2026 21:33:55
Potassium, or whatever mineral you are, the £200 million Spurs has shelled out on two standard midfielders, should not make us panic.
That's £200 million on 2 players who are not as good as our midfield three.
02 Jul 2026 21:53:37
@Kpee 00G
I am glad that you also appreciate 'the god'.
I had an 'I was there moment' watching Barnsey.
The legendary 5-4 match against Leeds United in April 1991, I have never seen a player single-handedly dismantle another team, like I did that day.
The man was unplayable. It was literally like watching Pele. I s*** you not.
On a side note, he nearly ruined his god-like aura with the 'John Barnes rap', but I forgave him.
02 Jul 2026 21:59:50
Who's panicking about what Spurs are doing? 😂
I'm just pointing out that the World Cup happening is no barrier to a club wanting to sign players.
02 Jul 2026 22:03:23
@MonsterSouness, you don't rate Tonali?
I think he's a Beast of a midfielder.
He offers more to a team than a Curtis Jones and whatever the hell Alexi Macallister offers these days.
I'd swap either of them in a heartbeat for Tonali.
Glad he chose Spurs and not Man United.
02 Jul 2026 22:11:00
@John Barnes Is God... I agree, Barnes was special. If we were in Europe, I strongly believe he would have got admiration on a global level.
I'm not into International football but his England rap was pretty decent!
02 Jul 2026 22:22:05
@keviniho85,
Firstly, I question his stance and quote that he wants PSG over Liverpool. Ask yourself, is that his stance, or a regurgitation of his agent's stance.
Secondly, there isn't a chance, and I mean zero, nil, zilch, that he replaces Doue in the starting eleven for the foreseeable.
Thirdly, PSG do not want to sign him, and certainly not for 100mil plus. They don't want to spend such a massive amount on a potentially world class player to sit warming the bench. This is not the PSG of old. They do due diligence on players and no longer just buy up all the 'stars'.
They buy cheaper, less known players with untapped world class quality who are hungry to fight for a starting 11 position. Think Kvaratskhelia. Diomande will not accept not being a starter. Period.
Fourth, further to the above point, PSG have still not made an offer, which should tell you ........
You can bring PSG to the table by trying any tactic you like, which they did, but if they don't want to buy him, they won't bid.
That leaves Liverpool. A team who he has agreed personal terms with, and is just waiting on RB / Liverpool negotiations to conclude.
02 Jul 2026 22:37:48
@KPee OOG,
Wasn't me suggesting we should buy anyone, mate. :)
@Potassium,
It's a barrier if the player you want is at the WC though, isn't it?
You might be able to squeeze a medical using a team camp or something, but can't see many tied players taking a break to sign a deal mid tournament.
02 Jul 2026 22:40:54
Thanks for the explanation. John Barnes is God. A lot of the points you have made. Would make sense. As in he would be a guaranteed starter at Liverpool. Certainly not guaranteed to start at PSG with the players they have already.
The only thing that I don't fully get is why have his agents put out via journalists that PSG is his preference or where he wants to play next season. If that is not something Diomande wants or has advocated, what is his agents' motivation for that? Why bring PSG to the table if Liverpool and Leipzig are negotiating a deal for him.
Is it to put pressure on, and force Liverpool to agree to the fee Leipzig want quickly, as PSG would be an option also? Is it to try and get Liverpool to agree to the demands of his agents?
At the same time, PSG is an attractive option: back-to-back Champions League winners, very likely the best team in Europe right now, with a relatively young squad of excellent players. Plus he's French-speaking, and Paris must be a pull as a city to live in.
02 Jul 2026 22:46:06
I'm getting the feeling we are being left behind somewhat at the moment. Strange time for the Hughes news to come out, even if it's been rumoured here.
It's nice to think we are busy behind the scenes, but it would be nice to get something to really make a statement through the door.
Surely Hughes can't be as focused as he needs to be with his own transfer looming?
As is pointed out, it's a complicated task getting deals done. I don't have much faith in Hughes to be able to step up. I hope I'm wrong.
01 Jul 2026 15:48:21
Just been reading on Japanese media that we are 'interested' in Japan's keeper, Zion Suzuki, who plays for Parma. Leeds also after him apparently. World Cup fever I expect, but if there's any truth in it I think he'd be an upgrade on Mamardashvili, and a lot easier to spell. Any thoughts?
01 Jul 2026 16:51:02
Suzuki? On your bike, Sangria.
I'll get my coat.
01 Jul 2026 17:37:25
You were 'Swift' there, Bobby.
01 Jul 2026 17:55:03
Linked with all the big boys since Japan went out.
01 Jul 2026 18:38:18
Another cycle of World Cup fever motoring about.
01 Jul 2026 18:53:51
He's big in Japan.
01 Jul 2026 19:02:35
He's signed for Leeds.
01 Jul 2026 19:15:03
He may be signing for Leeds, but the Japanese media will ride this rumour till the wheels fall off.
Sorry in advance.
01 Jul 2026 19:47:36
That was a very Kwikasf***i.
01 Jul 2026 19:50:28
Would it be safe to say that Andoni would ideally want his new signings to be on the LFC books at the start of pre-season training on the 13 July, hence Munoz (although he is still involved in the WC).
Therefore, the players Andoni ideally requires must still be involved in the WC, hence the ending of Diamonde pursuit?
Rumour Bajcetic is to join Middlesborough? Seems pure speculation. Andoni will decide during the pre-season training and the Tour of America; he will not make blind decisions till he has fully assessed his fitness.
There are few doubts regarding his footballing abilities, aka Jurgen, who was a big fan.
Andoni wanting players before pre-season training, ideally, must also mean that Thiago joining the coaching staff is also, sadly, speculation. Facebook AI says Thiago was signed while Slot was still the coach?
01 Jul 2026 20:04:08
Rather have a Honda.
01 Jul 2026 20:17:36
@007, I think Munoz had a release clause in his contract that we paid and triggered, allowing the medical to go ahead and personal terms to be 'verbally' agreed.
I have tried searching for details about the actual contract (wages and length).
But, all I'm getting is 'agreed long term' and 'subject to work permit and international clearance'.
Munoz has just done an interview saying Iroala reaching out and personally assuring him is what convinced him to agree to join.
Nice to see Iroala directly involved and that this wasn't a Richard Hughes solo deal.
01 Jul 2026 20:56:53
Facebook AI 🤣 You might as well as your hat.
01 Jul 2026 21:50:25
We almost got a Keisuke Honda Iron Man.
01 Jul 2026 22:46:06
Isakwillcomegood, Munoz signed a 6-year contract as per BBC.
01 Jul 2026 22:46:18
007 - I'd say that would be the most ideal, aye. But, needs must, and if the right player can only be sealed after WC, then amen to that.
02 Jul 2026 03:42:49
Things aren't binary - we do one thing, then when it's done, we do another thing isn't really the way that big business works.
02 Jul 2026 15:00:59
I think both Edwards and Hughes are leaving on completion of this window.
01 Jul 2026 12:25:47
Have Liverpool asked City about Savinho? Or is this just BS?
01 Jul 2026 12:31:42
Hopefully Bs.
01 Jul 2026 12:45:38
Elite dribbler, but dam he cannot shoot. Could AI use him to unlock low blocks and supply Isak? Highly possible, but don't expect a goal return from Savinho...
01 Jul 2026 13:10:10
Pretty sure they said Salah couldn't finish at Chelsea...
01 Jul 2026 13:30:34
I like the idea of 'elite dribblers' - there's quite a few on here, could be in that category.
01 Jul 2026 14:02:05
Savinho could be better with a run of games.
01 Jul 2026 14:55:40
Funky 061, what are you basing that view on? Because any time I've seen him play for City he's absolutely shocking. Can't pass, can't cross, can't dribble and can't shoot.
There is nothing positive about that lad.
01 Jul 2026 15:05:27
My son used to be an elite dribbler. Only to be expected as he inherited his table manners from me.
01 Jul 2026 15:05:38
Cumber, whilst I am not suggesting we sign the lad, any professional footballer needs the faith of the manager, the love of the fans, and consistent game time in order to produce top football.
I'm sure Bayern fans were not too impressed with Grav when we bought him.
Chelsea did not rate Salah.
Forlan was rubbish for Utd and great for Madrid.
I could go on all day.
01 Jul 2026 15:49:13
Cumber, The kid made 50 appearances, aged 21, for a Pep Guardiola side, and was well capped for Brazil. He has to be good at something, and it is dribbling. He was described as having extraordinary potential by Pep, who blocked his move to Spurs previously.
I never said he was world class, and I hinted at his wastefulness. All I said is he can go past a man, but would need some work by AI to help him feed Isak, as his decision-making/end product has been very wasteful so far.
01 Jul 2026 16:06:27
I've never seen him go past anyone unless it's the run the ball out of play.
He really is gash. Really, really gash. At pretty much everything. I'd question our entire club if we even considered signing Savinho.
We'd be much better off giving games to Kieran Morrison who has the potential to be a decent player. Savinho is not the answer.
01 Jul 2026 18:19:19
I always thought dribbling was for babies.
01 Jul 2026 18:22:54
You must know better than Pep then, Riosstepover.
01 Jul 2026 19:43:25
I'd take Savinho, definitely.
Like Elliot and Jones, he'd be a good squad player.
01 Jul 2026 21:48:30
Savinho needs a change of scenery. He was extremely exciting at Girona, but hasn't kicked on at City.
Not my first choice, but if he were to, say, be valued around the 40 million pound mark, I would consider it in this market.
He'll first have to refind what he once had and then kick on after. He is still only 22. And only just 22 at that. You forget how young he is.
I'll sign him if he leaves Savinho in Man City and comes to us with Savio on his back.
02 Jul 2026 00:05:37
Savinho is not bad. He's a bit like what Doku was before cementing a starting spot: high energy, good pace, decent dribbling, not so clinical.
Then Doku gets a run of games and starts looking a lot better. I think the same could happen with Savinho, and Iraola could improve him. He definitely has a lot of good attributes.
If the Diomande deal is dead in the water, and with a lack of RW options, Savinho could be a decent option in an Iraola system. The problem is City wouldn't sell him "cheap" to us (£40m). They'd ask for £60-70m if a direct title contender opponent came knocking, and I don't think he's worth that.
02 Jul 2026 09:34:29
Neto seems to be the other name touted around, together with Savinho. Something about a link with Mendes. Not sure why Chelsea would let him go, he looks pretty good every time I've seen him.
{Ed025's Note - i think both of them are awful mate..
02 Jul 2026 10:31:06
I'd tempt Chelsea with a bid for Estevao from Chelsea, but he had a number of injuries last season. Not sure how bad the last one was as he missed the last 7 games.
02 Jul 2026 14:01:36
Back in Klopp's days we bought players that fit a profile but at the right price. Under Hughes, we seem to have a scattergun approach. Often too expensive, or do not fit.
He also wants out. Why don't the board tell Edwards to do it? Or are we just floundering?
Regards another keeper, the big Georgian seems to want a loan. Why not just sell him then?
02 Jul 2026 15:29:23
To be balanced, Hughes inherited a mess in terms of contract renewals, but he hasn't done anything to make it better, if anything we're repeating the errors of the past and continually losing players on frees.
The other inheritance was an ageing nucleus of superstar players that were always going to be difficult to replace.
The purchase of Mama was a complete balls up, the guy can't even distribute. We haven't replaced Vvd yet, so that'll probably be unresolved in his tenure, and with Mo let's see. He signed a two year, and then ripped up the second year, another big mistake.
To a degree this was recognised and we tried to change style rather than replace like for like, but now Arne's gone and we've reverted to a coach who prefers players with high intensity. That isn't Isak's game although he can finish if others do all the running. Wirtz and Kerkez should be ok. Frimpong I don't rate at all, on or off the pitch. Ekitike I'm not sure about.
All in all it's probably a three out of ten unless we have a great summer and right a lot of wrongs before he goes.
02 Jul 2026 22:09:43
You can't win.
When the club gave Hendo, Fabinho and Milner big bumper contracts, everyone criticised the club for doing so.
The club are now more cautious about big contract renewals, and everyone moans we don't just throw money at everyone.
Chelsea, United and City have all had a hard time moving players on before because nobody will accept players on massive wages, so they end up continuing to pay a big proportion of the salary even after they leave.
I wouldn't want us to be in that position. Having a wage structure is a good thing.
01 Jul 2026 11:20:01
Morning Eds, hope all is well. I seem to remember you said that there was interest in Malick Fofana last summer and that he would like to join us. I know he had an injury ravaged season, predominantly plays left wing, but he is right footed and could probably be bought for a similar price to Munoz ( 2 years left on contract).
Given the price tags elsewhere, do you think we could revive our interest? Cheers
{Ed001's Note - no, I doubt we will be interested right now.}
01 Jul 2026 11:54:17
Always injured.
01 Jul 2026 12:36:20
Thanks Ed, suppose he probably needs to prove himself again post injury
01 Jul 2026 12:39:07
Marseille are interested from my sources at Lyon.
01 Jul 2026 14:41:57
Check out who his agents are as well. Steer clear!
01 Jul 2026 08:20:41
A question for the Eds and ITKs,
I've been reading in a few places across the net the last couple of days that us and several other clubs are interested in signing Mainz midfielder Kaishu Sano.
I know nothing about the lad and admittedly this is probably just world cup fever, but I'm curious if its a potential possibility.
TIA
{Ed001's Note - I don't know sorry.}
01 Jul 2026 10:37:00
I feel it's probably World Cup fever, I think they mentioned on the commentary that he had the most tackles or interceptions in the Bundesliga, so he could be a shout if he's available at a sensible price, but he's only 5ft 9 so might get overly bullied in the Prem.
01 Jul 2026 10:40:26
He is a rapist. He was arrested in 2024.
{Ed001's Note - this is a report on that: "According to Japanese media reports, Sano gang-raped a woman with two friends at a hotel in Tokyo on 14 July 2024. The survivor contacted the police immediately after the incident, leading to the arrest of Sano and his accomplices.
While Sano pleaded not guilty during interrogation, his legal team reached a settlement with the survivor through substantial private compensation. The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors’ Office dropped the charges thereafter.
The Japan Football Association categorised the incident as a “personal mistake”."}
01 Jul 2026 10:52:39
Look up Kaishu Sano 2024 arrest
01 Jul 2026 11:19:42
He is a very good player. He was accused of participating in a gang rape last year though, it was a big deal and he agreed an out of court settlement with the victim despite making a public plea of innocence.
I'm a fan of the Japanese national team and would love us to sign more Japanese players, but I think I'd rather not in this instance.
01 Jul 2026 11:37:31
Another no.
01 Jul 2026 12:36:02
Sano's younger brother, Kaido Sano, is better. He plays for Nijmegen, not exactly a fashionable team, but actually one of the most relentlessly attacking teams in Europe. Only Bayern, Inter, PSV and a couple of other teams scored more goals than them last season, and Sano played a big part in that. He wins the ball back and brings it forward at pace, week in week out, and scores a couple of screamers each season.
I reckon we could get him for around 15M, and he'd be a good squad player at very least, with a high ceiling being only 22. And he doesn't have the personal baggage his brother does, which I am afraid is true. I don't suppose we are looking at him, which is a shame. BTW, I'm not a first-time poster, I just haven't posted for about 20 years!
01 Jul 2026 12:46:25
Definitely no.
01 Jul 2026 12:52:12
Despite what we all likely know and realise, you can't state it was true, as he was not convicted and all charges dropped, and, whether or not you agree, he is not guilty of a crime and as such can't be labelled so.
Just pointing it out. Same with C Ronaldo, similar situation with him and a female in a hotel in Brazil, I think. No charges after a 'substantial settlement' was offered.
01 Jul 2026 13:08:35
Okay, so we can't be judgemental and paint people with broad brushes as criminals, unless convicted. Agreed.
But are we that desperate? Do we go ahead and associate the club with persons who may or may not have substantial controversy? Who needs the headache, the stress and potential trouble? Okay, there's no fire, but as an ethical professional sports enterprise, you walk away from smoke too.
01 Jul 2026 13:14:58
He can categorically f*** off then!
01 Jul 2026 13:55:26
Reached a settlement just like Prince Andrew did.
01 Jul 2026 14:29:17
1 million percent no.
01 Jul 2026 14:41:22
He's a beast full stop. Wouldn't last 5 mins on a night out. Do we really want that kind in our city? I don't.
01 Jul 2026 17:13:31
ArAy, no we don't and I certainly didn't insinuate that we do, merely making a point that you don't go on a public forum and claim things to be true.
The club have a full team who will do due diligence, background and psychological assessments of potential recruits, so very much doubt they would go down the route of bringing in players accused of such things.
01 Jul 2026 18:21:11
So in the last few days we're being linked with a nonce and a rapist.
01 Jul 2026 19:44:02
CR reached a settlement also. In fact, the case resurfaced when Bild published transcripts from his lawyers in which he said "she said no". The court in Florida threw it out as the evidence was illegally obtained - stolen. Interestingly, his legal team's threats to sue never materialised. I know what I believe.
01 Jul 2026 20:16:52
Stuie, but we agree. I clearly said that. I wasn't disagreeing with you. I just went beyond what you wrote and said that I would want the club to avoid him even at the slightest hint of something. Not necessarily only after a guilty decision or a plea bargain.
02 Jul 2026 08:06:14
Forgive me, Stuie, but aren't the known facts (1) that he did reach a settlement, (2) that he publicly apologised for his actions, (3) that his coach went on record saying the player was "remorseful", amongst other things.
It's not a case of innocent until proven guilty here - he paid the woman off and apologised for doing it.
He just never publicly admitted what the "it" was, which he clearly won't do for obvious reasons.
I couldn't care less if the fella was nailed on for the Balon D'Or. He shouldn't be within a hundred miles of the club.
02 Jul 2026 16:32:50
I don't understand the responses here. No one, myself included, is saying he should be signed. Merely pointing out he has not been convicted, which by law states he does not have a criminal conviction of what he was accused of, and he is not the first and certainly not the last player to be in this situation.
Doesn't matter what the known facts are, the president of the United States has openly paid off women, certainly didn't stop him running for president unfortunately.
02 Jul 2026 17:43:32
Stubborn, your talking absolutely rubbish
Thats a fact.
02 Jul 2026 18:40:26
Stuie, I'm sure you can appreciate there is a world of difference between the Trumps / Andrews of the world who pay people off and refuse to acknowledge they've ever met them / done any wrong.
This fella admitted wrongdoing by paying out and apologising.
There doesn't need to be a guilty verdict to prove this fella is a wrongun.
I understand the "we can't call him a rapist" point, but this isn't the hill to die on, mate.
01 Jul 2026 06:51:58
Reports that PSG have set Barcola price at 113 million.
I actually think he is the more developed player than Diomande and seems to have less baggage around him.
Problem is we need a right winger specificaly, Minteh at circa 60/70 million doesn't sound a bad deal to me in comparison.
01 Jul 2026 08:04:38
I like Minteh but he needs to massively improve his output. £60/70m is a lot to spend, if we could get him for half that then I think he is worth a punt. Both Barcola and Diomande are overpriced but they do have decent output in terms of goals and assists.
01 Jul 2026 08:12:52
They have better output playing for more dominant sides in weaker leagues though.
01 Jul 2026 08:29:54
I've never seen anything from Minteh that suggests he's good enough.
We're replacing Mo Salah here, we can't be shopping in the bargain basement if we want to move forward and be successful.
01 Jul 2026 08:38:57
Watched Minteh's first interview for Brighton and he said he loves high intensity and pressing. Always tracking back as well. Watched his highlights, and he tore our backline apart. Only 21, so room to improve. Left footed as well.
01 Jul 2026 08:41:06
PSG want to keep him. He is a highly valued member of the squad, so they've just stuck a ridiculous price tag on him.
Barcola is not the answer for Liverpool, Diomande is - but not for 100m unless the structure of the payment aligns more to what Liverpool consider as his future potential.
PSG won't buy Diomande. Liverpool will.
01 Jul 2026 08:47:32
We are buying a right sided attacker/winger, not replacing Salah. There's not a player on the planet that replicates his output from the right wing. The goals and assists he made will be expected from the likes of Isak and Wirtz. A different type of right sided attack could be sought.
01 Jul 2026 08:51:55
None of the wingers linked compare to Mo. He is a unicorn. We just have to make the choice which best suits us as a team.
01 Jul 2026 08:59:21
I agree, threeps, a Salah replacement is like findings Hens teeth. Our strikers should be scoring the goals required. We need a winger to beat a man and make opportunities.
01 Jul 2026 09:08:04
The price quoted isn't always the same as the price paid.
01 Jul 2026 09:33:21
Get Rayan or keep your powder dry. 👍
01 Jul 2026 09:34:49
Nowhere near that calibre of player, leave him there.
01 Jul 2026 09:47:35
You can't replace Salah, unfortunately, and those that didn't appreciate what he did for us will soon come to realise that. He was a special special player for Liverpool, but all good things must come to an end, unfortunately.
01 Jul 2026 10:00:20
I completely agree that it's not a direct replacement for Salah. We will never find another right sided forward with his goals output.
It was inevitable that we would need to go to a system with a proper number 9 eventually and that transition started last season.
However, that doesn't mean we can just stick anyone on the right wing and expect it to be ok.
Love or hate Hughes, I think you have to be happy with his ambition. We needed a striker. He got the best attainable striker out there. We needed creativity in midfield. He got the best attainable AM out there.
We needed a left back. He got the best attainable left back out there.
This is no different. We need wide forwards, and he's going after Diomande and Barcola. The best attainable wingers out there.
In years gone by, we would've ended up with a Minteh or an Elanga and tried to make do. Some would be successful, but most would flop, especially pre Klopp. Hopefully those days are gone, and we keep trying to sign best in class. It takes longer and has less chance of getting the player, but in the long run it's the way to go.
01 Jul 2026 10:12:43
I think Hen Steeth was on the Dutch bench if you're looking for him still.
01 Jul 2026 10:24:13
I think they have set the price at 116, as that's probably what RB have told them they need, to sell them Diomede.
01 Jul 2026 10:44:30
Not gonna lie - I think Amad looked as good as Diomande for Senegal. No where near 100 mill player. If Barcola is 50/60 mill I'd opt for him, but neither at the 100 plus range. Might now be the going rate for potential but we already spent big on Wirtz and Isak who both have to prove themselves.
Ultimately Isak should the giving Salah goals numbers and Wirtz should be play making. We just need pace, a bit of trickery and a good pressing young winger that doesn't cost 100 mill. That figure should guarantee you 30 goals a year.
01 Jul 2026 11:32:55
I correct my kids when they say "I'm not gonna lie" before every sentence, and exactly why I keep them off social media. Why would you lie?
01 Jul 2026 11:56:52
If people are happy with Minteh, then they must be happy with a non trophy season. There's better than him. It's the better ones we require. And deserve.
01 Jul 2026 12:17:45
Keeping powder dry is not an option given our squad size and balance.
And it is even more ridiculous saying it given the sporting directors have had multiple seasons to solve our squad problems and contracts, while spending 100s of millions and releasing puff pieces about themselves.
Smartest operators in football, my backside.
01 Jul 2026 12:43:29
"Literally" as well, The Lid.
Man, that boils my brains when I hear idiots saying "literally" when they mean the exact opposite.
01 Jul 2026 13:00:24
Bournemouth's Rayan is the same age as Diomande, 19, but with a year's PL experience. Rayan's buy out is £130M and Diomande's fee will not be far from this, so why not go for Rayan? Obviously, LFC see something in Diomande that I don't (but I've only seen him at World Cup) and must think he has a very high ceiling.
Most of the elite wingers are either in their mid 20's and/or cost even more - Vinicus, Olise, Doku, Doue, Kvaratskhelia.
01 Jul 2026 13:09:34
Rayan's been in the league since January 2026.
01 Jul 2026 13:15:54
Burnt our fingers last summer with not one but two 100 million purchases. In the sense that neither met the club's expectations, regardless of what the reasons may be. I hope the lesson has been learnt and that millions are not thrown around like they're corn seeds.
I know we need players to replace those that have left.
And maybe replace some that are still there. I'm just saying let's go back to some fiscal restraint and be sure of what we are doing. Last summer we bought for a club record, an injury prone cf. And a "wizkid" who lost all his wiz in a tougher more demanding league.
01 Jul 2026 13:38:12
@Ron, I think people using the word 'literally' figuratively is ironic.
01 Jul 2026 16:06:34
Literally what you said. 😂
02 Jul 2026 14:05:51
For £113m I would buy Minteh at £60m or so, then have around £50m for a Rightback. We know from experience, coming from outside the Prem, you take at least a season to adjust.
02 Jul 2026 15:12:55
@The lid 2, because Amad is a United player, so a lot of here would lie and say he is nowhere near the player one of our potential signings is.
30 Jun 2026 22:38:53
Evening gents.
Still no bid received from PSG for Diomande.
We're still there.
We're just not there on the instalments side of things yet.
But we're not walking away.
Cheers.
{Ed078's Note - thanks again Robbo, much appreciated.
30 Jun 2026 23:07:43
There won't be a bid from PSG, @Robbo, as I've explained in previous posts.
He'll be a Liverpool player, that I have no doubt.
Expect things to move quicker now Ivory Coast have been knocked out of WC.
30 Jun 2026 23:17:34
Cheers Robbo, although the fans have turned on him since Ornstein and Romano said he'd picked PSG. Hopefully Yan doesn't look at the banter page and see himself described as "Frimpong with less pace".
30 Jun 2026 23:19:04
Is he a right winger or what? Coz, from what I seen tonight, he hugged the left touch line and moved up and down it less than the linesman.
30 Jun 2026 22:57:36
Thanks Robbo. Do you know if he has said he wants PSG?
30 Jun 2026 23:25:48
He can do both left and right wings.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he plays primarily on the right these days at club level.
So, the expectation is he will be our new right winger primarily, but interchange with whoever's on the left as and when.
30 Jun 2026 23:40:37
He has played on the right plenty and is good with both feet. If he's hugging the left touchline for the Ivory Coast, it's because that was the tactical instruction given to him.
30 Jun 2026 23:40:46
Let's be honest, he's not worth the money they are asking. He didn't exactly set the World Cup alight. On another note, just watching Isak, now he looks a shadow of his Newcastle days. We can't afford to spend massive money again. Diomande is a massive No for me, especially that PSG is his preferred choice. Move on.
30 Jun 2026 23:53:16
Soccer Fan, give it up with that take. Isak has been as bad as the whole Sweden team has been; they are lucky it's not a cricket score. They've done nothing front to back. How do you expect Isak or even Gyokeres to do anything when they are barely going forward with any drive and are coming up against a brilliant defence? Potter as well is clueless.
The whole team is rotten. Can't expect Isak to show any form or class in that set up.
For myself, I'll judge a Liverpool player in a Liverpool strip after they've had a season under their belt to give them time to bed in.
30 Jun 2026 23:53:22
I just don't wanna pay that money for a 19yr old that's had a good season. I wouldn't go beyond 50M.
Also, if we did sign him and PSG do come calling at any point, he will want out.
30 Jun 2026 23:59:09
How will we know if he's worth the money if we don't sign him, Soccer Fan?
The scouting dept, the data analysts, the manager, the coaches know a hell of a lot more about him than we ever will, so if they think he's worth the money, then he is.
30 Jun 2026 23:56:06
How do we know PSG is his preferred choice? He has said in interviews about both Liverpool and PSG. Why are we taking what the journos are saying as gospel now. The exact journos didn't have a clue about Munoz and had declared that he had signed on the dotted line for Newcastle. Until the player is wearing a PSG shirt and unveiled then there's every possibility that this is just this weeks story to invoke clicks and traffic on their social media.
I don't think Edward's and hughes or whoever is negotiating would have spent as much time on the deal, had the player indicated he wouldn't move to Liverpool and terms agreed leading to them then putting a bid in.
01 Jul 2026 00:59:16
I don't think we should hire Diomande. Very disillusioned with LFC and football in general.
01 Jul 2026 02:10:45
CE, they haven't very much at all- front to back, but they do wipe that way.
01 Jul 2026 02:21:39
If Diomande is not a good fit and by the sounds of it, Liverpool have moved on.
Who are our 2nd, 3rd and 4th options?
Barcola, Kudus, Rayan, Minteh or Al Mala?
Or any one else they can think of?
01 Jul 2026 02:25:07
Should walk away. That aside, thank you, Robbo.
01 Jul 2026 06:16:06
Krums, Robbo literally said in the opening post we are still there and not walking away, so it seems the only ones that have moved on are some of the fans.
01 Jul 2026 06:52:00
Like I said previously, our aim is to have both Diomande & Barcola. I don't believe these stories about PSG & Diomande, plus I can see Barcola leaving for a lot less than £100 million.
01 Jul 2026 07:17:47
My only concern here is the people representing Diomande... they sound like an effing nightmare to deal with, but I really like the player and he fills a void that's not easy to fill.
I guess we'll see what unfolds.
Thanks again for the update, Robbo. 👍🏻
01 Jul 2026 07:22:18
Thanks Robbo, I have been of the opinion that most of the news that comes out is agent and club driven. I have also said nothing will be done until the player is out of the World Cup.
Therefore, they stop having a platform to show his worth.
He is a talented young player, and wherever he ends up, I will look forward to watching his development.
01 Jul 2026 07:54:50
Man I'd rather pay 200m for Olise, the man is world class and controls games. I know he has a better squad around him, but he does this for Bayern too.
01 Jul 2026 08:06:46
Diamonde looks pacey, but Barcola looks much better and cheaper.
It's not my money. Let's get both, please.
01 Jul 2026 08:21:21
I don't want Diamonde for that money, and with his alleged entourage, his head will be turned as soon as they feel they will get a better offer. This is just my opinion, just see red flags.
01 Jul 2026 08:49:22
@RaceyLFC,
Your statement is correct. The idea from Liverpool isn't one or the other; it is both.
It would be madness to take Barcola as a replacement for Diomande. It would be genius to sign both.
Diomande will be a Liverpool player. Barcola is the more difficult one to pull off.
01 Jul 2026 09:03:23
I am singularly unimpressed by him at the World Cup. It's the first real time I have seen him.
Either he has a lot of growth potential, or the club are seeing something I am not. Prices may be high, but I do not see the value here.
01 Jul 2026 11:47:19
Agree with richlondon, don't see 100 mil from what I've seen in wc.
Walk away and don't spend a penny with white Spanish scumbags either out of principal.
01 Jul 2026 12:18:57
Robbo LFC is now my favourite poster again.
30 Jun 2026 22:26:47
hello Ed1. Did you hear anything more about interest in Kounde? Seem to remember you mentioned it before Iraola appointment. Hope all is well. YNWA
{Ed001's Note - no mate, but I haven't seen the person who told me since the season finished.}
01 Jul 2026 09:54:00
Ah, ok, cheers for quick answer, all the best!
