Morning lads…

What’s the craic with Delap? I thought he was on loan but turns out he was sold by Citeh! Do we have any interest in him atm or are any other teams watching him? I think he could be the next England number 9. Top top player in my opinion.

Letstalkabout6baby

{Ed002's Note - There is interest from two PL sides but not Liverpool.}

1.) 27 Oct 2024 21:47:52
Leif Davis reminds me an awful lot of Robertson at Hull if we’re doing any shopping at Ipswich.

2.) 27 Oct 2024 23:13:22
Leif goes to ground too easily once winter comes around.

3.) 28 Oct 2024 00:24:45
Probably best if we Leif hm alone.

4.) 28 Oct 2024 08:03:14
Anyone robinson from Fulham looks a very tidy lb option.

5.) 28 Oct 2024 10:18:19
Robinson is probably too old now. We need to be getting somebody long term. Davies or Ait-Nouri would be great. Davies is nailed on for Madrid unfortunately though.

6.) 28 Oct 2024 11:19:52
Leif looks pretty good, he gets some stick but I think he has the potential to really blossom into a top player.

7.) 29 Oct 2024 12:06:46
Is there any interest in that fullback from Benfica, Alvaro Fernandez? He's young, counts as a HG player because of the time he spent at United and seems to be a good option to replace Robertson long term?

{Ed002's Note - Alvaro Carreras (LB/LWB) Benfica will look to avoid a sale of the player who only joined in the summer after a loan, but Manchester United have a buy back option at €20M, far less than his €50M buy out clause. Manchester United could look to tempt him to rejoin but the player may look to the emerging interest of Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid, although Barcelona and Liverpool do not have a pressing need. Real Madrid will see Mendy depart in the summer and, like Manchester United, are looking to a LB as a priority.}

8.) 29 Oct 2024 13:14:26
Cheers Ed002.
It'd be interesting to see if we do try for him. Naturally I'd say that Liverpool would be the best option for him considering how we can show him a clear pathway into the first team and as teams like Barcelona and Manchester United are not as stable off the pitch as Liverpool are, we could offer him the best environment to fulfil his potential. I was fairly sure I seen that Real Madrid were targeting Alphonso Davies on a free transfer next summer, so maybe they wouldn't spend £30m+ on a potentially substitute LB?

26 Sep 2024 14:24:16
Kostas was clearly a weak link in the team. Why have we held onto him for so long? Is it because he’s happy as back up or partly due to keeping salah happy as they are best pals. Have we been watching any Lb’s recently or do you know if slot has a preferred option? Cheers YNWA.

Letstalkabout6baby

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool watch players throughout the year but there are priorities that need to be dealt with first.}

1.) 26 Sep 2024 17:04:17
I imagine the left back position will be shortly on the priority list due to Robbos age and Kostas probably not going to be anymore than a back up.

2.) 26 Sep 2024 19:35:59
Kostas takes a few games to get going can’t judge anyone who starts once every 10 games or so.

3.) 26 Sep 2024 20:02:28
Thats true scouce john, but Tsimikas is a midtable premier league player at best imo, don't you agree?

4.) 26 Sep 2024 22:56:28
I disagree. He’s on a team that has fought for trophies year in and year out and never has he finished mid table. He’s a good back up.

5.) 27 Sep 2024 05:54:13
he is never going to be in the conversation of world class players but Tsimikas works hard, seems to be well liked by his team mates and doesn't cause problems. so i wouldn't rush to sell him - particularly as there doesn't seem to be anyone queuing up to take his spot. We need to sort out VVD first IMO but i def can see the club looking for someone to come in and phase out Robbo or him next year.

6.) 27 Sep 2024 07:06:44
Maybe I'm the odd one out but I like Tsimikas. Of course he's not as good as Robbo but he's a very decent backup for us. Apart from his first year which I recall was horrible, but he did improve and I would say most of the time he does enough when he's called to fill in for Robbo. Would you rather have Moreno over Tsimikas? I think Tsimikas is better than Moreno. However, if there's a special LB available, then maybe we need to look into that. Otherwise, we shouldn't be looking to boot Tsimikas out.

{Ed025's Note - for me DAP he is a decent enough back up but not a first team starter, seems to me like a really nice guy who is well liked and has a very good team ethic but he does lack concentration at times so can be a liability mate..

7.) 27 Sep 2024 08:06:28
That right there is the issue Ed025 but I think too many of our fans have been sucked in by Klopp's loyalty down the years and have forgotten the ruthlessness required to win titles. Robbo is getting to the point where he can't sprint up and down like a Duracell bunny for 90 minutes twice a week. He also seems to be picking up more injuries in the last 2 seasons than he did previously. So we're going to become increasingly reliant on Tsimikas over the next few years if we stick with what we've got.

Due to Robbo's inevitable decline looming on the horizon, I think we now need more than just a hard working back up who won't make a fuss. For me it's time Robertson was phased into being that back up option, and a new first choice option is signed. I love Tsimikas to the extent I even have a Greece shirt with his name on the back! One of my best memories as a Liverpool fan is celebrating his winning penalty in the FA Cup final whilst I was sat in a bar in Lisbon getting sloshed with loads of random Liverpool fans from all over Europe. But I'm also a realist and it feels like to move forward we need a new starting left back now. There's no point having 3 senior left backs though, and in a shoot-out between keeping Robbo or Tsimikas, there's only one winner.

{Ed025's Note - yeah MK its not easy to lose players who have been committed and been stalwarts for the club, but the game moves on im afraid mate and when players regress they have to be replaced..thats just a fact of life..

8.) 27 Sep 2024 12:12:52
I think he's fine as a back-up, it's only really an issue coming into the new couple years given Robbos age, we don't want to rely on Tsimikas starting week in week out. I'd focus on bringing in someone who can replace Robbo and then give the back up spot to someone like Chambers who has been really good on loan and is probably more suited to the new role at LB sitting back in a 3 because he's also played CB.

9.) 27 Sep 2024 12:51:42
Tsimikas was bought as a back up and has done the job well. He’s never let us down as far as I can recall. There was discussion about signing a LCB / LB in the recent window but that discussion was overshadowed by general concerns about the need for us to sign a DCM ‘destroyer’, without whom we would be ‘doomed, doomed I tell ye’ to quote Pte Frazer.

An LCB not withstanding, I think we have a number of youngsters auditioning for a step up into the first team squad as a LB - Beck, Chambers and Scanlon. I think there are likely other areas the need addressing first.

I’d say we will need at least one CB possibly two if Joey leaves which - without any proof on my part - I think he will.

I think we need a right sided attacker to either replace Mo or to challenge Chiesa for a starting place if FC is seen as the Mo replacement.

I also think we need a genuine world class CF. Neither Jota or Nunez are a medium / long term solution. As I say I prefer Jota, of the two we currently have. I’m not sure I understand the idea that Nunez should be given a go. Surely if he was good enough he would have been a regular starter by now.

Anyway, I think a CF should be our priority but I suspect CB may be the club’s focus.

Oh yes, and we might need a DCM …….

10.) 27 Sep 2024 14:27:33
I was going to say that I see Jota and Nunez as a back up to a new CF as Tximi is to Robbo for the LB spot. If it were me and we bought a CF, I’d keep Jota and try an$ recoup some of the money we spent on Nunez.

11.) 27 Sep 2024 20:30:57
"Tsimikas is a midtable premier league player at best imo, don't you agree? "

I don't.

{Ed025's Note - higher or lower Oli?..

12.) 27 Sep 2024 23:29:23
Eds, Florian Wirtz seems to be the next shiny player to be on big clubs shopping list, is he another Bellingham where lots of clubs are linked, including LFC, but he ends up at RM or MC? He does seem to have bundles of talent, are LFC interested, and more pertinently, is there any prospect of the club putting the money on the table?

{Ed002's Note - Florian Wirtz (AM/F) Arrived as a replacement for Havertz and made an immediate impact with admirers in Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich sending scouts. Newcastle have a very experienced third party continuing scouting players in Germany for them and have also looked at Wirtz. He signed a new long-term contract in 2024 but struggled to play early last season due to serious injury. Newcastle remain keen if he could prove his fitness but chances of them signing him are very low. Bayer Leverkusen will not want to sell and will point to the length of his contract. Chelsea have him on a list of possible AM options but have a preferred option. Liverpool have not made any offer for the player as many of the fans think and can likely be discounted with other English sides. Expect Bayern Munich or Real Madrid to try to negotiatea transfer, probably Real Madrid would be favourites. A wildcard would be Barcelona or Manchester City as a de Bruyne replacement.}

13.) 28 Sep 2024 12:53:19
I like Tsimikas as a person, you don't hear about him whinging about game time and when he fills in he gives it his all.

Everyone around the club speaks well of him and he has become a bit of a character. Not every squad player has to be top tier but giving 100% has to be the number one priority.

To be honest I think we have been spoilt with Robbo and Trent being so consistently brilliant over the last 7/ 8 seasons.

When you think back over the years in the Premier League
We have never had two outstanding players in l/ b and r/ b the same time. We always shoehorned midfielders or centre backs in and hoped for the best.

We have both sides covered with Bradley and Tsimikas and although they may not get as many assists they both add a bit of grit and determination to the game, they will give their all for the club and become legends in the history of LFC. I hope! ??.

14.) 28 Sep 2024 23:39:16
Klopp's loyalty? When he axed and replaced an entire midfield in one window - including his captain and vice captain?

15.) 28 Sep 2024 07:57:13
I’m going to jump in here, how are you ed25 mate?
MK makes a good point, to stay at the top you need to be ruthless and this is where Fergie won. He was ruthless when it came to moving players on in order to improve the squad

Drogie.

{Ed025's Note - im good thanks Drogie, yeah mate there is no sentiment in business and players come and go..

16.) 29 Sep 2024 11:33:02
So how’s Coleman still on Everton’s books then?

{Ed025's Note - because we dont have a viable replacement WDW, our 2 full backs are pretty weak at the moment but we have not had the resources to replace them, Seamus has been a great player for us but his age and fitness are against him now, but he is still club captain and his influence in the dressing room is invaluable still, and bought for £60,000 he will go down as an Everton legend and one of the best pieces of business in premier league history mate, lets not mention Coleman and Tsimikas in the same sentence please, one of them is a fullback who holds legendary status...the other one plays for Liverpool..

13 Sep 2024 12:22:08
Just a quick one Ed’s. Micky Van de ven, was he ever a interest of Liverpool? A quick young left sided CB exactly what we need/ needed. I guess he wouldn’t have been a starter which would have put him off the idea of Liverpool. But he is a great player in my opinion, just wondered if we missed out on him? Cheers. Love the site.

Letstalkabout6baby

{Ed002's Note - Yes but he moved to Spurs.}

1.) 13 Sep 2024 13:31:05
Another bullet dodged then. Spurs defending is shocking and all Ven has is I can run fast.

{Ed001's Note - very much dodged. The guy can't defend. He can run very fast but needs to as he is always out of position. And he runs faster than he can control. He is the defensive Adama Traore.}

2.) 13 Sep 2024 14:02:48
Sounds a bit like Kyle Walker then! ?.

3.) 13 Sep 2024 16:17:19
The Kyle walker/ Traore similarities have put my mind to rest. Thank Ed’s and reds.

30 Aug 2024 20:43:54
How long does a medical take for a footballer Ed’s?

Letstalkabout6baby

{Ed002's Note - Until you hear the word “cough”.}

1.) 30 Aug 2024 21:37:12
lol Ed.

2.) 30 Aug 2024 21:55:51
So how long does a cervical biopsy take?

3.) 30 Aug 2024 21:41:45
Amazing ?.

Sep VDB joins Brentford 25mill.

Letstalkabout6baby

1.) 22 Aug 2024 21:54:39
And the online fume builds with 8 days to go.

Seeing some very contrasting reactions from Reds, that shows those who hope to win the league again one day and those that think 3rd is good enough.

Can’t believe we sign no one. Inacio and Rabiot I reckon.

2.) 22 Aug 2024 23:06:10
I presume the two ideas are mutually exclusive are they @Genius?

3.) 22 Aug 2024 23:19:43
Would keeping VDB help us win the league?

He was a 4th/ 5th choice centre back.

I don’t think there’s much “fume” about him being sold. He’s a fringe player being sold for a decent fee.

I think you’re clutching at straws on this one. It doesn’t take a ‘genius’ to see your agenda with your username and what you’re trying to stir.

4.) 23 Aug 2024 01:43:51
Did he really go for 25million?
I keep reading people saying Liverpool is pricing him out of a move. in fact whenever a player's leaving is a bit protracted, that Liverpool is at fault.

Never sure about the logic on this.

Liverpool think that he is worth a certain price, and will only let go at a certain price.
Sometimes you get it, and sometimes you don't.
Apart from Philips, I think Liverpool has sell extremely well.

Never understand what is all these criticism about.

5.) 23 Aug 2024 02:16:46
Or maybe people believe we can challenge for the league with the squad we have. Buying one or 2 players isn't going to change that much and certainly won't guarantee us the league.

6.) 23 Aug 2024 05:29:29
@kloppdog - this squad couldn’t win the league last season, and hasn’t been strengthened in any way, how is it somehow good enough now? We need to strengthen every season, to improve the quality, and maintain serious competition for players places.

7.) 23 Aug 2024 05:40:58
25m each for VDB and Carvalho is great business. Neither looked world-beaters and we will upgrade if Rabiot and Inacio are brought in their place. We should be wary on Sunday as both of them (if they feature) will want to show us what we missed out on.

8.) 23 Aug 2024 06:33:14
Seano - we only signed SVB and Minamino the summer after we finished 2nd and won the CL. The season after we won the premier league. By your logic those two strengthened the team enough to win the league did they? No they didn't, so the team that couldn't win the league the year before did just so the year after. There are other ways to improve other than just spending money.

9.) 23 Aug 2024 06:36:02
Sean_ I won’t deny selective additions are strategically important (witness Alison, Fabinho, Salah etc. ) but it’s not that simple or Chelsea would have won the league a few times over ;)

I think for Liverpool a lot of investment went into rebuilding the midfield last year with Macca, Szobo and Gravenberch etc. another year under the belt, and with the likes of Elliot, Jones, Bradley and Quansah maturing, we actually are a stronger side now. Our forwards look strong, and likewise defence is solid.

The key question in my view is whether there are notable gaps that a strategic purchase will make a difference, and I think probably only really at CDM. The rest of the squad I think is very competitive. Of course an Mbappe or Bellingham would help too, but realistically who’s available of that calibre that we can bring in?

10.) 23 Aug 2024 06:50:39
SGRed-Exactly. Buying for the sake of buying doesn't work. We do need a CB, having lost 2, and potentially Gomez. Then we have Nyoni, Jones, Endo and Grav for one place. Somethings got to give.

11.) 23 Aug 2024 07:28:20
Navy Keith don’t make up what you think I was saying. Read it properly before jumping to incorrect conclusions.

12.) 23 Aug 2024 07:35:34
In terms of CB we have really only lost one so far (Matip) as SVB didn't play for us last year. You could argue with his fitness concerns that Matip gametime could easily be given to a youth player. If Gomez leaves then I reckon we def need a new CB (though we are leaving it pretty late) . Im guessing it would depend on how they view VVD contract renewal as to whether we get someone like Inacio in.

13.) 23 Aug 2024 07:50:48
25 million each for two players who were never perceived to be starters by the club, and not for the future either, is excellent business. One consistent thing that I have noticed from LFC, over the years, is the ability to sell "future potential" in players very very well, after deciding on not using it, itself.

14.) 23 Aug 2024 08:01:26
@FSGenius

You’re replying to a post saying we have sold SVDB to Brentford with “And the online fume builds with 8 days to go”.

What am I making up? What aren’t I reading properly?

FS…Genius? (not the word I’d use! )

15.) 23 Aug 2024 08:07:33
I think it's narrow minded to think that just because we haven't made signings we can't do well. As someone points out our title win was after spending only £16m on minamino.

You can change tactics, youth players can become ready, recent addition can become more accustomed to the club and style of play, roles can change, in some cases just a change of manager is enough to help some players play much better.

There are also multiple examples of winning teams adding players and it makes them worse (Chelsea adding shevchenko for example) the answer isn't always, nor should it be 'sign more players' that really should be the last resort as it's the most expensive and the most likely to alter the balance of the team.

16.) 23 Aug 2024 08:12:37
Westwood we had players at their peak of their powers when we won the league. Part of the reason why we won it. But our squad is ageing and not good enough to win the league. I imagine people will say where is your crystal ball, I’ll point to logic given we’ve won one league in about 35 years.

17.) 23 Aug 2024 08:13:25
Rabiot is far too expensive.

18.) 23 Aug 2024 08:36:11
Couple more sales and everyone can get in the starting lineup or on the bench. Good for morale ?.

19.) 23 Aug 2024 08:38:45
Many posters see buying new players as like an upgrade on a car engine or a PC. Put the new part in and boom instant massive performance upgrade.
It doesn't work like that on the whole with football.

We bought a whole new midfield last season then fell away late on in the Prem after being right up there for so long. Those players are a year down the road with each other now, and that makes a difference. So yes, supplementing that with the right signings would be an ideal situation, but is it utterly disastrous and calamitous, are we stagnating and sliding backwards if we don't buy the big names that fans want?
Of course not. We might not be moving forward with the same impetus that a signing or 2 in the right positions would give us.

But fans who are utterly fixated on transfers don't see that.
They just want the dopamine rush of a big signing. And when that doesn't happen they revert to slagging the club/ players.

20.) 23 Aug 2024 08:50:05
If you look for two years and end up with Rabiot then the club we love is in serious trouble. It would feel better if they could actually sort out contract extensions. What a distraction they are going to be heading towards the new year.

21.) 23 Aug 2024 08:53:37
Hardly pulling a Rabiot out of the hat at 350k PW.

22.) 23 Aug 2024 09:04:51
I agree with SGRED, apart from the defence bit. We conceded too many goals last season. I think the left side is vulnerable and relying on Virg and Robbo staying fit. We definitely need somebody coming in who is Left footed and capable of playing both positions. Inacio?

23.) 23 Aug 2024 09:07:28
Kloppdog - as nothing guarantees us winning the league, doesn’t everything “far from guarantees us from winning the league”?

24.) 23 Aug 2024 09:17:20
Aging squad is harsh Frode. Other than Alisson, Robbo, Virgil, Endo and Salah who else would you describe as aging?

Marmadashvili (23), Kelleher (26), Davies (21), Pitaluga (21) and Jaros (22) are 5 young goalkeepers. Trent (25), Bradley (21), Stephenson (21) and Ramsay (21) are 4 young RB’s. Konate (25), Quansah (21) and Nallo (17) are 3 young CB’s. Chambers (20), Beck (21) and Scanlon (18) are 3 young LB’s. McConnell (20), Bajcetic (19), Morton (21), Nyoni (17), Jones (23), Gravenberch (22) and Mac Allister (25) are 7 young DM/ CM’s. Szoboszlai (23) and Elliott (21) are 2 young AM’s. Gakpo (25), Nunez (25), Danns (18), Koumas (18), Doak (19) and Gordon (19) are 6 young FW’s.

Given we only have Gomez, Phillips, Tsimikas, Jota and Diaz in that 27-29 age bracket I’d say if anything our squad is too young! Especially as at least 2 of them will probably leave this week. How can 10/ 40 being 27+ years old be considered an aging squad. Especially as only 5/ 40 are over 30’s.

I will concede that Alisson, Robbo, Virgil and Salah are key players though and the only one with a solid succession plan in place right now is Alisson. So we do need to think about future proofing LB, left side CB and RW in the near future. I’m hoping we can sort CB out this summer (we’ve already sorted GK this summer) and then next summer we can nail down RW and LB long term. That gives Doak and Chambers a chance out on loan to really stake a claim. Whereas at CB we don’t really have any really too young ones out on loan and Nallo is probably just that bit too young. So I’d accept we have an aging spine to the team, but the squad is ram packed with young talent and at least 7 of our starters against Ipswich have another 5-10 years at the highest level injury permitting. All 4 of the subs we used against Ipswich were also 21-27 years old. So our core squad members are generally pretty young for me. I think “aging squad” is an unfair assessment.

25.) 23 Aug 2024 09:31:28
FTR, you're just wrong.

your squad won't magically improve unless you can upgrade positions, unless you're world class in every position then you can and should reinforce in areas of weakness.
Yeah our midfield might be in a better position then last year as they've bedded in. But we currently have pretty obvious weaknesses, LB, LCB, Salah leaving in the next year, Trent going? VD going leaving us with some youngsters.

We get injuries and all we've done is offload, then we quite clearly will be in a real problem state.

I just can't believe people on here somehow acting like losing some fringe players somehow makes us have a better squad this year. There's a chance slot does some magic and fixes some of our weaknesses like our lack of clinical forwards (outside of djota who is injured constantly), but you can't act like that is some certain thing.

26.) 23 Aug 2024 09:32:46
You are completely wrong Flash, absolutely a million miles off. You have given it no thought or context. For example posters don’t want Rabiot on massive wages, so it’s not just buying for the sake of it.

The captain says the squad needs help and in 99% of the time winners bring in a few quality additions. We didn’t win the league without bringing in some quality additions.

27.) 23 Aug 2024 09:35:08
“The club we love” - that made me laugh out loud ???.

28.) 23 Aug 2024 09:46:24
Frode-If your argument was the one Seano was making I would say fair enough, but it isn't. He is saying that as our squad didn't win the league last year it won't this year, and I simply gave a recent example as to why that stance is objectively wrong. No I don't have a crystal ball, and neither do you, so why do you think our current younger players won't this season come into the 'peak of their powers' as you say. Again correct we won't nothing for lots of years, and I bet in most of those summers I bet we made signings, yet the one summer where we made one signings neither if which were first teamers, we won the league the year after. So yeah, there's your logic thrown right back at you - we are clearly better when we sign no-one lol. I'm not here to argue, I'm here to make objective based counters to peoples negativity.

29.) 23 Aug 2024 10:06:25
To those saying that we don't need to sign anyone, your reasons may be valid but we know that in football, anything can happen and we need quality squad depth. Even a strong team like Man City do sign players, as one can argue their squad is already strong enough to win the league. Same for Arsenal, they are improving each year, partly thanks to their signings helping them along the way.

I'm not saying we can't win the league with our current players. With the right form and tactics, we may well do so. However, we have some first team players that we may need to replace soon. Like VVD, Salah to name a few. So, if we don't sign anyone this season and wait until next season to sign players, we'll be put in a tight spot. Clubs will know we are desperate to fill in the gaps and they can squeeze us for more money compared to this season. Also, we don't have hundreds of millions to spend per transfer window. If we don't plan ahead, we may get into trouble.

Some might argue, that we did the same last season with our midfielders. Well, it was a huge risk that surprisingly paid off. Imagine if the players brought in couldn't adapt well? For example, we brought in Fabinho and Keita, one took a while to be great and the other one kinda flopped. So, if we buy some players this season, we get to see if they can adapt or do we need to react next season.

I feel we are talking a huge risk by not signing anyone this season. It speaks volumes when we're not the title winning team and yet we're the one that are not putting in reinforcements. I also don't buy into the reason that we cannot find players that are better than our current squad. RM, Barca, City, PSG, Arsenal can find players to improve their team but Liverpool can't find anyone to strengthen our existing squad? Its like saying we're the dream team. Let's see how it turns out this season. I hope I am wrong.

30.) 23 Aug 2024 10:37:22
Someone said this already but it’s been glossed over. The 2019 summer window we brought in Minamino, SVB, Adrian. Hardly impactful first team players.

We do need to strengthen but it’s not over if we don’t sign a player. It does narrow the margin of error. More so to do with quality as opposed to depth because we have a full squad even with the recent sales.

31.) 23 Aug 2024 10:39:53
I have been going to the games for 40 years WDW, we are so close that it would be heartbreaking for the club not to try and improve. We are close but as it stands next year will be extremely difficult.

Strive to be the best we can, that’s all we can ask for. That doesn’t include letting your best players leave on free transfers and adding no one to fill glaring weaknesses in the current squad. It also doesn’t mean buying £100m player after player or paying someone £350k a week.

I know you’re happy with the pay on the head at the end of the season but I want to strive for winning the PL.

32.) 23 Aug 2024 10:40:04
Have I missed something but when did we sign Mamardashvili as far as I know we haven’t.

33.) 23 Aug 2024 11:11:56
OK, I'll say it then. Good luck Sepp. You'll Never Walk Alone!

34.) 23 Aug 2024 11:12:03
What you mean Mark is that I haven't given it meaning or context that you agree with. Which is understandable given that I'm not utterly fixated on transfers, so we'll always see things differently from that perspective.
And yes, reading the hysterical posts here on a daily basis many fans do just want a signing for the sake of it, while many others put forward good cases for certain players/ positions. While you may not think along the same lines as that, to deny it's happening doesn't make it so.
In short, could we do with some new blood? Probably.
Is the world going to stop turning or the club implode and disappear if we don't sign anyone? Only if you have a hysterical outlook.

35.) 23 Aug 2024 11:14:25
Sid19, It’s pretty much done now I believe. ITK’s are reporting a €35m plus 10% sell on clause and we loan him back for 1 year. Be some collapse if the deal doesn’t happen now.

36.) 23 Aug 2024 11:31:09
@Markp - how does whining about everything the club does or doesn’t do constitute striving to win the league. I can’t understand how you have been going to the match for 40 years and yet you have no regard for the coach and coaching staff improving players that we have at the club year on year or recognise that players in their early 20’s are on a learning curve and will get better and better or are you saying players like Gerrard were the finished article at 18? I also think the general opinion that buying a defensive midfielder will somehow guarantee that we will get better and / or win us the league. The notion that you and others (have you read this far Frode) that buying a defensive midfielder will improve our defence out of sight. Ironically we conceded the third least goals in the PL last season and I could make a reasonable case that it is the goal opportunities that we missed rather than the goals that we conceded that cost us.

Buying one player won’t win us the league but it could help in tandem with our existing squad improving with better tactics and good coaching.

37.) 23 Aug 2024 12:21:27
We may not have strengthened that year but we had, in the previous 2 seasons, signed Alisson, Van Dijk, Fabinho, Salah, Robertson, and seen the emergence of Trent. Alisson world class in his position, ditto Fabinho and Salah, Robertson by that season also one of the best LB’s, and we had prime Mane and Bobby as a foil. It was an outstanding team at its absolute peak. That is not the case now - there are lots of very good players, but I mean even Salah today isn’t as good as that version of Salah. I just find it laughably optimistic that you think we can bring in a new coach, not sign anyone, and win the league. Make the case that this team/ squad now is as strong as that 2019/ 20 one, player for player, I want to see how you justify it.

More to the point though why haven’t we bought anyone? Lack of money? No will? No ambition? When the injuries start kicking I hope those making these bold proclamations won’t go hiding. Fans being asked to pay ever more money to either buy a kit or attend a game, but are derided for wanting a new signing or 2? It doesn’t have sense. Why have the two teams who finished above us strengthened and we haven’t? Do they seriously have more weaknesses than us? I’ll await the responses/ justifications.

38.) 23 Aug 2024 12:24:00
The only thing I would say about the Minamino transfer window is that we’d come off of a season with 97 points, 1 defeat, incredible form and we were so unlucky to finish behind City by 1 point! We were arguably the best team too. Last season, we were comfortably the 3rd best team. Arsenal and Man City were clearly better, simple as.

I don’t mind if we’re not in the title battle this season as Slot finds his way and gets embedded into things, but I’m naturally worried about missing out on CL football. There’s a lot of good teams now, id argue the top 10 teams in the Premier League have never been stronger. And injuries last season plagued teams more than ever before, and with Internationals all summer, could be more of the same this season.

39.) 23 Aug 2024 12:42:17
Ok MK mate, to be honest, I’m not sure why we’re buying another GK as we have a plethora of that position “in stock”, I’m sure we’ll both agree that our priorities lay else where, still I’m not running the show, it’ll be nice to know if contracts have been sorted out for Salah, Trent and Ali first before anyone is considered to be coming to us regardless of what position they play in and like you (not many of us posters mind) I still think all 3 especially Salah can still do a top job for us for at least 2 more years maybe more with the likes of Trent and Ali who I can’t see leaving us any time soon.

40.) 23 Aug 2024 12:43:13
Ok ill say it. The whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. Not saying that we don't need additions, but getting a sparkly new toy doesn't mean everything is now fixed.

41.) 23 Aug 2024 13:02:32
VDB has a grand total of 4 appearances for Liverpool about 4 seasons ago.
Has been loaned out ever since.
He wanted to leave.
Complained about being priced out of a move.
Liverpool held firm in their valuation and it was eventually met, and possibly more.
VDB had the choice of the German champions or Brentford.
He made his choice.
Great bit of business by Liverpool for a player that didn’t want to stay.

42.) 23 Aug 2024 13:51:19
It would be a Caicedo/ Zubimendi/ Alonso of a collapse.

Something we’re used to know.

43.) 23 Aug 2024 15:57:31
I do have one justification Seano, but 1st thing is that if you'd have started with your most recent post, I wouldn't have said anything other than that I actually agree with you, but you didn't. You said we didn't win the league last year so we won't next without making signings and not only is that an entirely subjective opinion I countered it with objective evidence to the opposite occuring when we won the league.
Besides saying LFC where at their absolute peak when finishing 2nd? Well sorry but obviously not. You can call it unlucky but the table doesn't lie. City were better than us that year and we, the same first 12 were better than them the year after.
Anyway to my justification, we have a new manager introducing a new style to new players who may or may not fit that system, or get on with him or vice versa. There are so many variables there. I don't know what others do professionally on here but I don't mind saying that I manage at Board level of an international corporate and the time it takes to settle into a role and who is compatible with your ideas takes a long long time, let alone to implement something effective. Put that into the context of elite level sports with huge ego's and immense public and professional scrutiny and Slot is expected to know enough about his entire squad to who should go and who should come in to make improvements within a few weeks at best. Nope, not a chance. If I was manager I probably wouldn't sign anyone on that basis either.
All this said, it does appear we are going to be making signings so at least that will give the masses their shiny new toys to play with, haha.

{Ed025's Note - good post that Westwood..

44.) 23 Aug 2024 16:09:50
It wasn’t minamino that won us the title though. It was the fact we broke the transfer record for GK CB and DM in the 18 months before. Anyone can pretend otherwise all they like but our success came from spending big money just like anyone else recently. It’s how you win you can’t win without doing it anymore.

45.) 23 Aug 2024 16:25:47
One Kiss. I went to school with Marc Albrighton and I am pretty sure he would disagree with you with regards to the Leicester team, their total team worth and he himself who went to Leicester on a free and now has a PL winners medal.
Again I am not disagreeing with the trend here, but City have been rich and outspending most other teams for a long long time now but it o lying since they had a top class coach in Pep that they have had sustained success. If money was everything, Mark Hughes would still be City Manager.

Is it time we benched Szobo.? Not giving much more than his work rate. Curtis has that in abundance being a local lad with creativity, drive and a goal given a run of games. Not having a go at Szobo just maybe a bit of time on the bench and trading pitch with Arne might help his end game. Plus he does like to throw his arms around and a shake if the head. Just a thought. Win is a win. Took of the league YNWA.

1.) 29 Sep 2024 08:28:43
I wouldn’t mind seeing Mac in that advanced role and then that would leave Jones in Mac’s.

There’s a lot pining for Endo to get more minutes but the fact he’s only played 1 minute in the league and 1 minute in the CL probably suggests the writing is on the wall.

2.) 29 Sep 2024 09:13:21
We should be benching Macca, we need Szob’s work rate and pressing but Macca hasn’t got going yet this season Barcelona few decent halves.

His lack of effort and weakness in the tackle yesterday was making my blood boil.

I don’t criticise players often but that was unacceptable.

3.) 29 Sep 2024 09:38:53
The team will suffer as soon as Jones gets a lengthy period of playing time.
Slob just needs to calm down a little and work on final balls and shooting.

4.) 29 Sep 2024 09:52:13
I thought Macca was fine after the first 20 minutes or so. Wasn’t surprised to see Szobo hooked, bit of a headless chicken at times and should really have scored. Great to see Grav playing with a smile on him face .
We won, it can’t always be sexy football all the time, sometimes you got to grind out results and we did. All in all it was an easy enough game even tho it was 2-1, Konate getting a goal AND an assist (for Wolves ??‍♂️)

5.) 29 Sep 2024 10:25:26
I think, over the last 2 games, Jones has looked far better in the more attacking position if Szob than the deeper mac role. Thought he was awful in the first half against West ham, but came to life when he moved further up, and looked good when he came on yesterday.

Dom is certainly off his game a little at the mo, but with the fixtures as they are, we might just have to grind through it at the mo.

6.) 29 Sep 2024 10:32:07
Looking at the team as a whole I think the midfield is making progress, but is still adapting to the new manager’s tempo.

Sounds trivial, but it’s not. Klopp’s teams were all about pressing relentlessly to break up the oppositions game and then immediately getting the ball forward into space (for Mo or Mane to run on to) . It really wasn’t about precision. (See Heavy metal vs symphony) .

Slot’s tempo is not like that. He’s more ‘symphonic’, he doesn’t win games by overloading the opposition with speed.

Now we’re seeing lots of rushed (sloppy) passes in the midfield. I think that will change. Mac Allister will improve, Dzob will improve. Grav - who never had a lot of games for Klopp - has adapted quickest. Curtis will adapt quickly and this system suits him most. Elliott will also thrive in this system.

It’ll get there, but it’s the heartbeat of any team and necessarily takes longer.

7.) 29 Sep 2024 12:19:14
Off the ball Szobo is Great. On the ball he’s a baby giraffe.

8.) 29 Sep 2024 12:29:38
I think you're right Ron. I don't think some of the players have completely got it together just yet. If we continue like this we'll be top 4 comfortably. If we manage to get it to click soon and keep the squad fit we've got a chance of challenging for silverware.

9.) 29 Sep 2024 13:02:32
Once Elliot’s back he should be first choice in that 10 position.

10.) 29 Sep 2024 13:19:37
Becker you're absolutely clueless.

11.) 29 Sep 2024 12:55:08
Ed1, I don't know if I already ask you this before but do you think Slot use Szobo further up is to use him to initiate press and also knowing that he has the engine to run up and down compared to the other two midfielders?

{Ed001's Note - his creativity and ability to hit a shot as well.}

12.) 29 Sep 2024 14:44:09
Worryingly we struggle to perform the most basic thing in a game of football, consistently "pass the ball" to ye team mate, none of them could "pass water" only Gladys Knight!

"Top of the League" so it can't get any better could it?

KTF.

13.) 29 Sep 2024 14:47:33
He scored 2 goals all last season, not much creativity there.

14.) 29 Sep 2024 14:49:53
Edd001 we're not seeing much of either concerning sob. He should be back alongside grav, slightly higher at times when it's right to push forward and macca/ Jones in the sob attacking role. He looked like a rolls Royce at the beginning of last season. He's a far better all round midfielder than this attacking / free role type.

15.) 29 Sep 2024 15:06:01
Ok Endo that’s fine if you think that but why not try to explain why you think that?

I’ll give you my reasoning for saying what I said and you give me yours.

We saw in the first game against Ipswich and Slot even said it himself, tactics mean nothing if you’re not winning your duels. Macca constantly backed out of challenges yesterday. He pressed but then got bypassed because he simply wasn’t aggressive enough. As a pressing team you simply cannot afford for this to happen as it leaves gaping holes everywhere. If you engage, you win the ball or you foul the player. If you just allow them to drift past you like Macca did frequently, then others will be out of position because they are up field cutting off passing lanes. Then it’s a frantic panic to get back in.

Better teams will punish us badly for that. I’m ok with a player having a bad game but to wimp out of tackles is inexcusable.

16.) 29 Sep 2024 16:09:44
I saw Arne this morning in the Apple Store in Liverpool One he was buying an "Enigma" machine for you know who!

17.) 29 Sep 2024 16:10:55
he actually scored 7 goals and had 4 assists last season but just make up numbers to suit a non existent argument eeeh arne's barber?

18.) 29 Sep 2024 16:11:02
@007, a couple of weeks back we recorded the highest successful pass percentage than we’ve ever done in the PL - can’t remember precisely but I think it was 92%.

19.) 29 Sep 2024 17:48:40
Arnes barber Elliott does not have the pace to track and press like Dom does. Dom is nowhere near what he was at RBL yet and may not reach that level in a tougher league.
He has been good during those first few games though, more than he's been poor.

20.) 29 Sep 2024 18:54:48
to be honest Dom hasn't played well for a while, and I think that we can do better, his Stats are really poor, and for someone who has a great shot, doesn look like scoring . bench him for a couple of games .

21.) 29 Sep 2024 20:43:24
I’m surprised there is so much talk about benching Szob and even suggestions of benching Macca but nobody has mentioned Salah who has been garbage in the last few games! Apart from his penalty yesterday he was honestly shocking and missed sitters, was over hitting simple passes and running down blind alleys all game, if Nunez played half as bad he would be on the transfer list. I do feel there is a massive question mark of Salah and his contract situation, he has undoubted skill and can come up with magic out of nowhere ( goals win games) but the amount of games where he plays an absolute stinker are becoming very frequent- if Salah was a player who would accept rotation or if we had a manager strong enough to sub Salah then fine but it doesn’t seem like slot is willing to sub Salah even when he is having a shocker.

22.) 29 Sep 2024 21:14:32
5 goals and 4 assists in 7 and half games. Horrendous performances from that so called footballer called salah. Wish we could sell him. oh wait. We actually don't deserve Salah, yes he was not great yesterday but if you actually watched the game you would have seen the amount of times he won the ball back and just 3 days earlier played a blinder off the bench vs West ham. that's all anyone ever does, focus on the negative. eeh.

23.) 29 Sep 2024 21:44:14
Szobo has the energy and power to lead press at the front and to track back. Macca could do it, but we would notice the gaps I think. If we did start Macca further forward then I'd play Endo and Grav behind him.

Szobo is doing fine, he was a couple inches away from scoring again and I'm not one to be minimizing a player "only giving work rate". that is the bare minimum. The beauty of Szobo at the minute and it's similar to Darwin, is that their energy and effort doesn't change no matter how well they are doing at the finer parts of the game.

So stick with him but also utilize Jones to give Szobo a rest and give Jones minutes.

24.) 29 Sep 2024 21:42:00
Stats can hide a multitude of sins, and if you watched his games there is no denying that every other game he has a poor performance. My argument is not to sell Salah ( maybe read the post again) I think Salah needs to be benched more because he clearly performs better when fresh! He started the season on fire when he was rested and then performances dropped because he was not rested. Then when he was eventually rested, as your post suggested he came off the bench and scored! So to be clear I want Salah to stay but I want him to be rotated more, kept fresh and when he is having a bad game I want him to be subbed… that is what is best for the team. Honestly tantrum central!

25.) 29 Sep 2024 22:04:02
It shows how good a coach Slot is to have Liverpool top of the table with so many underperforming/ mediocre players.

26.) 30 Sep 2024 05:05:06
And without a DCM in sight @Flash.

27.) 30 Sep 2024 09:16:52
"The team will suffer as soon as Jones gets a lengthy period of playing time. ".

Do I dare ask @Negative to explain what that train wreck of a statement means?

28.) 30 Sep 2024 12:27:02
We did Tsimi the day before yesterday, Dom yesterday so let’s do Curtis today dh?

30 Aug 2024 17:39:07
I think it’s good to have bajetic get some game time out in Salzburg, but also good to create some links with the Redbull football franchise in general. They do produce some talented footballers.

Also sat in a Cornish pub.

Letstalkabout6baby

1.) 30 Aug 2024 18:54:24
Great that he’s gone to a manager that knows him as well.

Despite being the spawn of the devil to the SF’s Pep knows Baj pretty well.

Looking forward to seeing how he gets on and where he actually plays.

2.) 30 Aug 2024 22:40:23
I think we'll sign a couple of wide players from Salzburg in January.
I can the headline now: Red Bull gives you wings.

Morning Ed’s. Big game to day hope everyone enjoys it and stays safe. I’ll be taking flight at 3:40pm today to Dublin from sunny Cornwall ??‍♂️ Totally ballsed that one up. But I was hoping one of the Ed’s could tell us something about Richard Hughes? History, achievements, what’s to be expected from him etc? Thanks guys have a good day! YNWA 2-1.

Letstalkabout6baby

{Ed001's Note - all I know he was a lower league player. It is difficult to discern what he has been involved with at Bournemouth.}

1.) 10 Mar 2024 09:15:19
I think I'd give the flight a miss letstalk!

2.) 10 Mar 2024 09:30:51
Thanks Ed1.

{Ed001's Note - welcome.}

3.) 10 Mar 2024 10:28:12
feels like a cup final today. Got the lucky socks on! :-) )

4.) 10 Mar 2024 12:39:12
Richard Hughes had several good seasons at Pompey under Harry. Played in the Prem and against AC Milan at Fratton Park up against Gattuso so has some top flight experience.

As a player I recall a no nonsense, honest denfensive midfielder. Certainly never let anyone down but not the most creative. To me Pompey always looked solid with him in the middle and you knew you’d get 100%.

I’m not sure of his achievements since hanging up his boots but I would imagine he’d be well respected. He didn’t seem the type to suffer fools.

5.) 10 Mar 2024 13:08:50
Cheers PR.

31 Oct 2021 23:09:57
I have motd fever and I think Raphina is the future! Sign him up!

Letstalkabout6baby

1.) 01 Nov 2021 08:57:17
I think he’s a quality player but unless Salah (Jota mane firmino too) leaves I can’t see us signing Raphina or any other good quality forwards.

We definitely need 2-3 good quality signings though I’ve been saying for a while that we need 2 CM’s and I fully stand by that, we need a younger model of Hendo and a player capable of replacing Gini’s consistency and availability. I’d love Bellingham and that youngster from Monaco.

And a forward, I’d love for us to add chiesa but as pointed out before it’s not going to happen unless sales are made.

We have a very good squad of players but it is evident that the squad is ageing and good talented youngsters need to be added.

2.) 01 Nov 2021 09:25:33
Raphinha is 27 and would cost a bomb.
where is this £200 mill to sign 2 CM and an attacker Moreton? what has miraculously changed from summer?

3.) 01 Nov 2021 09:56:59
I never said 200 million was needed to improve the squad to sign the players I’d love to sign then yes 200 million probably would be needed. Cheaper and more realistic transfers will likely happen.
But we have an ageing squad and people are showing signs of slowing up a little bit (can you not see that? ) and that’s not me saying I think we have a rubbish team because we don’t we have one of the best teams in football. But we need to sign a couple of good quality youngsters to bed them in with current crop of top class players otherwise we’ll end up signing players and they’ll get rushed into the team.
If we can sign players like adeyimi, gravenberch who wouldn’t cost a bomb they can be bedded in and learn over the course of next season and then they’ll be ready to play regular football.
Considering we haven’t exactly made many signings recently (due to the quality of our squad and our finances) we have probably fallen behind a little bit.
Of course signing players isn’t always the solution but we do definitely need a couple of signings simple as that.

4.) 01 Nov 2021 10:40:55
The coaching staff and management can easily see what is needed and what is required. I bet you Klopp has said it more than once. But it should be clear what the club is doing; it's a transition in phases. So no point in harping ad nauseum about needing 3-4 players, otherwise Klopp and FSG are incompetent and need to move on. First phase was to solidify the contracts of the players that the club wants to keep to play in the next generation. That first phase is almost complete with one or two players still pending. I bet you'll see the second phase in the summer with one of Matip or Gomez moving on, two (minimum) out of Milner, Ox and Keita moving on and at least one out of Origi and Minamino moving on. Maybe even more; and the positions will be replaced, if they haven't been already. That's their plan, and they've even said so through their actions. Running a club is not just about today's performance on the field. And if limited finances forces you to do it in phases then that's how you do it.

5.) 01 Nov 2021 11:35:08
We need bissouma in Jan.

6.) 01 Nov 2021 11:44:15
I am in complete agreement in wanting two or even more players Moreton Red. My question remains where do you see the cash coming in. It's been reported that unless we don't raise the cash we aren't signing anyone. And this is not helped when you start giving contracts to players over 30 for sentimental reasons.
Henderson cost us £20 mill 10 years ago and a younger version of Henderson plus English tax will cost you £70 mill today.

7.) 01 Nov 2021 12:06:27
Raphina is 24, he’d be a great addition. Know it’s not likely but the guy has serious talent and good work ethic too.

8.) 01 Nov 2021 12:15:54
Speak way too much sense, ArAy1969. Brilliant post and I agree completely.

9.) 01 Nov 2021 12:17:07
My dream is Bellingham who would cost upwards of 80 million. So a cheaper alternative is gravenberch who would be a fraction of the price probably around 30 million, he’d be capable of replacing Ox (15 million) surely the club has 15 million to add to the fee.
Then we could add adeyimi as a forward option who would likely command a fee of around 25-30 million he could replace Origi and/ or Taki whose sales woul near enough cover that.
I’m probably way out with the pricing but think it’s doable to bring them 2 in.
Then if we could add say kessie on a free then that’s good business and done at a reasonable price and we’ve improved the squad.

I’m aware of the financial struggles we have but if other teams are able to spend surely we’re more than capable of adding a couple of 30 million players even if we have to raise some of the funds through sales.

10.) 02 Nov 2021 17:52:25
Thanks OliRed🙏🏽.

18 Sep 2021 05:15:50
What would people’s thoughts be on Liverpool singing Saint-Maximin? He’s obv very dangerous and in the right team 🤷🏻‍♂️ YNWA.

Letstalkabout6baby

{Ed001's Note - can you hum a few lines as I don't recognise the song....}

1.) 18 Sep 2021 06:58:09
You hum it I’ll play it
Up the pool.

{Ed001's Note - I would have said that, but I couldn't play a note on any instrument!}

2.) 18 Sep 2021 07:36:38
Good player gives it his all just his injury record ain’t great! Battered Leeds last nite.

{Ed001's Note - is this the lyrics to the song?}

3.) 18 Sep 2021 07:42:58
Looks a Talented player but staying fit has been an issue for him in recent seasons. If he stays fit this season then I’d expect a few clubs to look at him next summer. I doubt Ashley would accept £5 a month instalments off us over 40 years though.

{Ed001's Note - he has incredible talent but he has no brains and usually just ends up giving the ball away. Add that to his horrible injury record, he is almost constantly injured even when playing, he has dodgy hamstrings, there would be no sense to signing him. He is completely unreliable.}

4.) 18 Sep 2021 08:11:45
Seems like Adama Traore the 2nd.

{Ed001's Note - more skilful but slightly slower, similar end product though.}

5.) 18 Sep 2021 08:33:56
Sign them both? Imagine the pace of our breakaway? That would awesome. 🎣.

6.) 18 Sep 2021 10:08:04
He’s a much better player than Traore imo and does actually bring a lot to that Newcastle side, but he isn’t good enough for us.

7.) 18 Sep 2021 10:19:32
He'd be one of them, wouldn't hardly get played for us, he's impressed me a couple of times from what I've seen but I don't think he's good enough for Liverpool. We're at another level nowadays, gone are the days of the Rodgers kind of signings.

8.) 18 Sep 2021 11:31:17
Salah he’s be even better with us again just can’t keep fit.

On the flip side, how good is Raphinha? Blows me away every time i watch him and Leeds looked utterly toothless once he left the pitch last night. On the off chance that Salah does leave we should look no further than him.

He looks good but always loses the ball. If there was a goal at the end of each run then he would be amazing.

Haha I must have missed the typo this morning at 5:15am.

One place left for Gordon perhaps…. Be interesting to see if he play’s today. He didn’t over celebrate the goals in his last game . Heads been turned maybe?

I think he’s been the best player where ever he’s been club and international. maybe it’s a step to far for him or he just needs to settle. We’ll see Colin the next games but I don’t think Arne will be as loyal as klopp in keeping hold of all players.
