Hello Eds. You've mentioned the quota for non "home grown" players in a few posts recently and it becoming a difficulty for Liverpool. Can you explain the rule and Liverpool's current position in relation to it please?

{Ed002's Note - The 25 man squad can contain a maximum of 17 non Home Grown players over 21 in it. Liverpool is up to the limit if you consider the likes of Karius and Grujic returning - so players need to be sold or loaned out before others can be added. Alexander-Arnold adds a complexity as he will be taking up a full squad place for the first time next season as well - but he can take the place of Clyne. Right now Liverpool has the following non HG players in the squad:
Van Dijk

1.) 14 Jun 2020 10:08:44
Out of that list I can see maybe 5 of them sold or loaned out. If we can get a deal on Coutinho I'd take him back as I think he will want to prove his worth.

{Ed002's Note - Which five?}

2.) 14 Jun 2020 10:17:08
Coutinho made his bed and he can lie in it. We’ve gone on to win the Champions League and Premier League without him.

3.) 14 Jun 2020 11:22:52
Morning eds2.
Have we received all the money owed to us from Barcelona for coutinho?

{Ed002's Note - The final payment that Liverpool will get arrives this month.}

4.) 14 Jun 2020 11:37:01
Ed002, I think the following could be sold, loaned or free to leave,

{Ed002's Note - The club want Adrian to stay. There is not guarantee that Grujic will get a WP and the club will be open to sell and talks have already happened between his agent and Lazio. The club will look to sell Karius. The chance to sell Lovren has diminished in the last 10 days. There have been no efforts to sell Origi. Liverpool had the opportunity to use Shaqiri in a part exchange deal plus money - but that is on the back burner for now.}

5.) 14 Jun 2020 11:59:14
Can liverpool just not register a player in their squad if they don't want to? So they wouldn't take a non hg place?

{Ed002's Note - Sure - but why would they do that as they would be paying a player who would be unable to play?}

6.) 14 Jun 2020 11:50:32
Morning ed, Karius I doubt very much will take up a place in the squad next season. Shaqiri will be sold and maybe Lovren. This will allow us to make a couple of purchases if funds allow.

7.) 14 Jun 2020 18:44:07
I dis not know that Scots were not home grown. I know they have their own league, but assumes we were all one nation so all home grown. What about the Welsh? Would be hard if Cardiff or Swansea had to have all Welsh players for their home grown quota 😂.

{Ed002's Note - It is The FA of England and Wales. Scotland have their own FA.}

8.) 15 Jun 2020 11:32:46
Would the ruling on extra subs get passed and continue into next season would there be an option to extend a squad size by a couple of spaces to accommodate?

{Ed002's Note - The ruling right now only relates to this season and why would the squad size need to increase?}

With all the talk of limited transfer budgets do you see this as a "sell to buy" window for The Champions.

Assuming there's a zero transfer budget do you see the Thiago rumour as a possible contingency plan should contract negotiations with Gini fail or as simply an agent stirring interest?

{Ed002's Note - This has all been dealt with repeatedly.}

With the current "behind closed door" matches I've a question regarding scouting. Is the modern day nature of football scouting still mainly attending the matches in person or have other practises come taken over, e. g. TV viewing and statistical analysis?

{Ed002's Note - Scouts are not attending games in person right now but the majority of scouting takes place at lower tiers where there is no football at all at this time. Clubs do supplement their scouting with analysis and data-based systems (of which there are quite a few) and will continue to watch games on television as well. In the case of Liverpool, one imagines they use illegal streams to watch the games rather than pay a subscription.}

1.) 12 Jul 2020 18:09:27
A perfectly reasonable question.

2.) 12 Jul 2020 17:55:17
Any idea what site they use Ed? Hesgoal isn't the most reliable for me.

3.) 12 Jul 2020 18:53:29
Get a Firestick, load Kodi and then the Rising Tides add-on. not that I'd dream of such a thing. You may need a VPN as well, the only thing that may cost you a small amount of money.

4.) 12 Jul 2020 18:58:31
Money No way!

Thanks Johnny, but with 3 young kids and a wife who watches RuPauls Drag Race until her eyes bleed, my firestick is pretty much always in use, my football watching is limited to my laptop.

5.) 12 Jul 2020 20:23:08
Vola sports is a good one Rugby.

6.) 13 Jul 2020 04:51:32
Google the team names along with Totalsportek on match day, it's been reliable for me for the past four or five years.

Congratulations and compliments to all involved at Liverpool FC in attaining the unprecedented heights of the last few seasons. It's a team effort and a team ethic that has reaped the deserved rewards. Well done to the team on and off the pitch but my special thanks to the catalyst.

. Thank you Jurgen Klopp.

. Boom!

Hi all,
It’s been a while, just wanted to add to Jags feelings. Huge thanks to all involved in this great club.
Special thanks to all fans home and away that attend week in week out and create some of the best atmospheres, watching from my couch at home early mornings you are the heart and soul of the club. I am emotional some nights watching Incredible support, keep sharing the love and together it’s going be one hell of a journey.

Thanks for the quick and informative answer ED002. Interesting to see a Scottish league protégé is classed as non home grown here.

{Ed002's Note - It is a different FA and he does not meet the criteria.}

1.) 14 Jun 2020 17:53:34
I agree really. If couts were 5 years younger then I'd be tempted at around 40mil.

And it got me thinking of keita. He is still quite a young player. If we moved him on, as some people seem to want, he may take a small step back. Someone like Porto or roma, Leicester. That sort of size. And still have time to earn himself a big move. Which I believe he is easily capable of. He is an excellent player and we just need to keep our fingers crossed that he can stay fit because he's a massive asset.

2.) 14 Jun 2020 21:47:44
IMO, this is all recycled rubbish in the media about Cou maybe interested in coming back or that LFC could be interested in loaning him back. I mean, did this nonsense not happen last summer when Klopp said LFC were making NO new signings? Now the same schtick is back again. I wonder why. Culd it be that this is (resurfacing again after Klopp said we may not sign anyone this season due to the impact of C.V. on future finances at the club and or cos we backed off of the Werner deal due to lack of funds?

Here's the deal. Klopp was asked last summer if he would be interested in resigning Cou and he said, "Phil Coutinho is a world class player hence, would post a lot of money so it was impossible to bring him back". To me, that is diplomatic speak for, "Greasy little person is no longer welcome here as long as I am manager of LFC". Why would Klopp change his mind exactly, esp. since the team we have now, is 3 times better than the team Cou left behind?

3.) 14 Jun 2020 22:05:41
And I'd hate to lose him coz I really think he will come good.

Adrian apparently injured by a fan during the Super Cup celebrations. Keeping an open mind but are Peps movements accounted for Wednesday night?

I was unimpressed with Hector. Although he got forward and into good areas I thought his crossing and finishing were very poor. Although he's a defender the ability to find a teammate should be a must for recruitment. Maybe a handful of games doesn't show his full potential though?

I can confirm Falcao was in Liverpool.

He was busking in Lime Street Station and did his big hit "Rock Me Amadeus".

He packed up and left when the crowd were only putting in £50 notes.

Surely not related but Howard Webb is going to the World Cup.

The contract isn't signed yet. I've heard there may be issues with the medical.

Unlikely rumour as Bony is lactose intolerant and wouldn't go for cheese on his burger.

Sounds like Chico Flores order to me.

Probably need a Sundae to clinch the deal for him though?

Agree entirely MIKEY1985. Even in the Palace game we played well and got caught out.

It's been a very positive particularly the momentum we built in the second half of the season. Young players have had an opportunity and have a year more experience now. Having a smaller squad was probably an advantage for cohesion. If we keep the majority of the existing squad and gradually introduce more youth not many additions are required.

Hopefully we can add a couple of top quality players and supplement the current exciting team. Despite the pessimistic analysts who see our opponents strengthening, I believe in 2014/2045 "We go again".

As a Liverpool fan I remember watching as we beat Blackburn in '95 in their final game. The stadium and players seemed a little bit subdued with the thoughts of Man U snatching the title. The team were professional and Man U slipped up.

I suspect Everton will be professional but also expect City will be. Saturday could influence the title destination but, unlike '95, no champion is crowned this weekend. I hope Everton can derail City. Neither team will park any buses and may the best team win.

An Everton victory on this occasion may well be toasted more vigorously by the Red half. In '95 Blackburn fans were joyous in defeat. As Greavsie said "it's a funny old game".
