Liverpool’s recruitment team are stepping up their pursuit of defensive reinforcements, with Club Brugge’s Joel Ordonez emerging as a serious target ahead of the January transfer window. The 21-year-old Ecuadorian has attracted growing attention from several European clubs, and Liverpool’s scouts have been among the most active observers.
Senior sources close to the club have confirmed that Liverpool scouts attended Club Brugge’s recent 1–0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise, where Ordonez was the primary focus of their visit. The young centre-back’s composure, positional intelligence and ability to play out from the back have been key factors in Liverpool’s renewed interest.
While the Merseyside side initially had no plans to invest heavily in a defender this winter, Marc Guehi’s failed move from Crystal Palace last summer — combined with Giovanni Leoni’s long-term injury — has reshaped their priorities. The club’s recruitment department is said to be reassessing the balance of Arne Slot’s defensive options as the January window approaches.

All I'm saying is that Konate is on a significantly lower wage than what he is seeking. He's turned down £220k a week hasn't he? There's an imbalance there. Go Jomez is on more than him and Fede is about double. Hugo's come in new and is on just under three times the amaount Konate is on.

I think the dressing room could be discussing about defensive responsibilities, tracking back. A few players do not track back emg Salah. Wirtz does but in previous position in Leverkusen he does not. And frimpong is not really defender, he is wing back. Seriously not many options out there for RB who can defend and attack well.

What was the point of giving Chiesa the Southampton game, he was man of the match and then nah Slotto drops him to 10 min cameo if he's lucky. Starting to think Slotto has a problem with his own ego, he's spent 230m on 2 strikers and an 11m man who would run through a brick wall for the team gets dropped, Slots refusing to see past his opinion and not play Chiesa based on his opinion, Klopps team mate won you a prem and you think it was you, is it no surprise you are shafting Chiesa and thinking we were unlucky in losing 3 games in a row and deservedly so. When you hear its not my fault excuses you know he's out of his depth. All the fears of Klopp leaving are now playing out.

We’re second having had a pretty tough opening set of fixtures and the team haven’t started clicking yet after a big transition of players in key positions. If you watch slott’s pre and post match conferences, he is completely all over it. We were hardly blowing teams away last year. The margins in most of the games are small and we have been winning them most of the time abut last couple not. Slott knows what he’s doing.

too many attackers in the teams and the away gial is so congested we don't score.
atm i find the other teams, playing football more better, taking shots / crosses from the wing, we just don't do that.
Gravenberch needs help in defense, i miss the old days of mascheano / alonson partnership when our defence was solid.
Also im prefering Etike over Isak, in attack he gives us a bit more that just waiting for the ball.

05 Oct 2025 18:23:10
I'm not trying to be overly critical, but Slot's "small margins" comments are concerning. These results are not just teams getting the better of us; every game this year including the wins have been unconvincing because the team selection and tactics were not correct. It's obviously difficult right now trying to integrate so many new players, but to the concerning part is that Slot doesn't seem willing to play the players from last year in the right positions nor the players that are in form. Consequently, we are struggling more than we need to be at the moment. I'm hoping things get straightened out, but we're going in the wrong direction at the moment and the concern is that Slot isn't seeing that.

Will be an unpopular opinion but who cares. Chores has started 1 PL game in 14 months which was a dead rubber v Brighton.
He’s proven he looks good against a championship side in Southampton and coming off the bench against tired legs.
I’d be more than happy to see him start more games and prove his worth but I honestly don’t think he’s the saviour that many have him painted to be.

Firstly, we ain't half been crap lately 😂.
Just to confirm what Ned said, we are in for Guehi in Jan. Even tho they messed us around, we need to bring someone in with Leoni being out. This will also keep Palace on side when we make a move for Wharton in the summer. As I'm told he will come in as a replacement for Macca, as we are expecting Madrid to come calling and won't stand in his way if he wants to go.
It also appears from what I'm told that are focus next summer is CB and CM. It won't be to levels of spending we have seen this summer.

Wharton would make sense if we are going to play a double pivot in the middle. Nice balance with him being left footed too. Would prefer Baleba though for a bit more power in there to accommodate for Wirtz. Defs need a CB in Jan - can’t drop Konate for Gomez cz Gomez will get injured and then we won’t have cover when Konate invariably gets injured.

As for Macca to RM. We shouldn't be surprised about this. The late, great, Ed2 warned us about their plans to sign him. If Konate and Macca are off it would go some way to explaining their performances so far this season. They are welcome to Konate - the sooner we get rid the better and although I do like Macca we should make a nice tidy profit on him.

Glasner's contract expires June 2026, there are very strong rumours he wants amorim's job at man utd, could that be another reason for refusing to sell Guehi at xmas or next summer's transfer window.
He must think his "park the bus" tactics are infallible and all conquering. All the great managers found out you just simply can't go through the middle of an obstacle, the only way is around it at the sides 442 (the wings are where the space is against massed defences) Isak did it once at palace and nearly scored for example, beckham ( he has the PL record for most crosses in a PL season) and giggs wingers put relentless crosses into the box, barnes, houghton similar at LFC, Callaghan, Thompson, Heighway, Hall under Shankly, Paisley used Kennedy and Case midfield players to do the same, crosses are only another word for passes. Mcdermott was his Florian once getting PFA player of the Year (it took him a full year in the reserves to settle) .
It is circa 50/ 50 when a cross/ pass/ corner/ throw in, free kick etc is played into the area, similar to a roulette wheel it goes either to a red or the oppositions colour, it vastly increases your percentages to score a goal, it has the defenders looking at their own goal instead of quite comfortably looking at your goal when you try to go through the middle of a massed obstacle.
Ian Rush often said i prefer to see the defenders number on his back, and them not to see my number i. e. the defender is facing his own goal, and Rush can fully see their goal and them, not facing his own goal.
Glasner wants to be the cock of the north at man utd, he will end up being the d! ck of the north, but only with relentless crosses right into his "BOX", Rush already has his number!

Guess what BTS, those klopp players needed a year in the league and the country to become the players they became under slot, Dom, grav, macca all went up another level against slot, who incidentally found a way to set things up to get the best of them. It's the same with Cody, lucho, Ibou, they all hit the best form of their lives.
The new players have barely got their foot in the door and you compare them with players who had already had a year adjusting to the pace of the league. However old you are you are simply a byproduct of the internet clickbait machine.

Was it Slot choosing players or Eddie and Dick? I imagine the latter / opportunism are more responsible than Arne is.
Loosing Nunez and Diaz's work rate / outlet / space creation for others, despite whatever their shortcomings were has impacted how we play, as has loosing Trent, especially where Mo is concerned.
Isak is a great individualist but not really a system's player as such. Wirtz has a different profile to last season's brilliant MF 3.
All of this takes time and graft to adjust to, and I for one was not someone who ever believed that spending 400m would lead to instant success.
There was an article on how only 7/ 35 players over 80m could be seen as a success over the years, which is another potential challenge to overcome (price tags / pressue) .
Carra's basketball quip is quite accurate, as are his words about how interesting it will be to see how Arne deals with all of this.
His interviews have been a little more throwing under bus lately - a sure sign of a man under pressure.

My own opinion is that Palace will resist but they’d much rather take the money than lose him on the free. Think a deal can be in the region of £14m-£18m - again, my opinion.
What I do know is that relations at CP between Parish and Glasner are tense after the summer, a new contract is there to be signed but Glasner is delaying decision.
I think he has been turned from a few clubs with let’s say bigger spending power and objectives in both PL and the Bundesliga.

Some of you need to get over the love in for Gomez. If we had Virg, leoni, Konate, Joe nd Guehi all fit Gomez would be fifth choice by some distance. He was shocking the other night yet because he's a nice bloke doesn't seem to get any stick. Move him on in the summer and when ibou moves on get a top CB in so we go into next season with Virge, Summer signing, Guehi and Leoni.

Salah, as I've previously said, we are not more than covered at CB. Not sure who you think our cover is.

We can always play Joe and Endo when were trying to rest Virg and Ibou Rome. Relax were more than covered.

Florian, I'm relaxed, mate, it's only football. However, if you think Gomez and Endo can carry us you're deluded, in my humble opinion. Gomez is an accident waiting to happen and cruise liners turn faster than Endo.

Forgive me, Florian. That's the trouble with the written word. Apologies.

Whereas we probably have enough to get us to January, I think it would be sensible to add a centre back in the January window as it isn’t sensible to rely on two injury prone defenders, if one or both of them get a long term injury it would be catastrophic for the season, I would think those running the club will remember what happened when we had Gomez, Matip and Van Dijk out at the same time.

What is our cover?
Konate, VVD
Gomez? if he stays fit
3 players for the whole season is not nearly enough.
wonder if tehy can pull some more from academy. no way can we be playing VVD in cup games etc.

Between Gomez and Konate, they make about 1 fit defender so we need to add in January. For Konate's inconsistency, I think we can do better. I'd move him on.

VVD is holding our defence together, Konate is a risk picks up the yellow card then gets taken off. Both full backs can't be trusted, Macca is not fit, gakpo is hot and cold, yet we are still favourites to win the League.
