Three players out with hammies now. I think I remember discussion on here about our physio. Could these injuries come down to the physio staff?

1.) 04 Nov 2021 07:48:25
No. Whilst we have three at the moment, when was the last one before them? Milner was also a fluke as he lost balance and overextended unintentionally with nobody near him.

2.) 04 Nov 2021 10:54:01
OP, hamstrings can go at anytime even during pregame warmups or pretraining stretching sessions. No point trying to over think it, IMO. It's life.

3.) 04 Nov 2021 11:00:29
Whenever we get a few injuries the ol physio gets lashed outa it😆.

4.) 04 Nov 2021 11:27:29
JH, Same ol' stuff, I guess.

5.) 05 Nov 2021 16:25:43
Totally willing to accept it's just chance we've just had 3. I was only asking cause I thought I remembered one of the eds bringing up the fact that we have/ had the same physio that was at arsenal during their torrid run of soft tissue injuries (though idk how long ago it was said) .

Curious what people think: Could Elliot play central? He's doing great in the mid, but we have other options there for now. Ox or he seem to be our best no 9 options after jota with firmino and mini injured.

1.) 05 Sep 2021 01:42:58
I remember Ian Astbury from the Cult flooring Eusébio in a charity MTV 7s football match, Eusébio was lucky not to need a hip replacement after that!

2.) 05 Sep 2021 03:27:21
I think Elliot’s best position is where he can get time on the ball to pick out passes and drive attacks rather than as a no.9. Attacking mid or wide IMO are his best spots for now until he gets fully comfortable at this level - and Mane/ Salah are capable of playing CF.

3.) 05 Sep 2021 10:56:06
OP, I think Elliott is being taught the Klopp system by playing in the 8 first to get his hands dirty on how things are done and prolly with time, we will know what his best position is, sane way it was with Gerrard when he came into the first team and played in multiple positions before settling in a position best suited for him. Give it time.

4.) 05 Sep 2021 10:57:42
If we have to we could play 2 up top and Elliot in behind.

5.) 05 Sep 2021 11:44:36
From what little (admittedly) I’ve seen of Elliott, he doesn’t look to be blessed with pace or even a fast change of pace?
If this is the case, playing further forward may be a problem, and perhaps that midfield schemer-type role is better suited to him?

{Ed001's Note - he is quick and does have a change of pace too.}

25 May 2021 18:01:42
Is there any chance (or plan) to transition TAA into the mid? I know it might seem crazy to move him out of RB but maybe a RB would be easier to find than a mid? Either way, I think he'd do really well next to Thiago/ Hendo. I'm curious if anyone else is thinking the same or has info on his situation.

{Ed025's Note - he sees himself as a future midfielder snuggerpool, myself i think he should stay where he is..

1.) 25 May 2021 18:52:56
This subject has been raised so many times and there is no chance he is moving. Far to good in his position to move I think but guess we will never know until he plays there.

2.) 25 May 2021 19:07:19
If neco proves himself maybe he can force a change for Trent? I guess at the moment, moving Trent to midfield will mean buying a right back.

3.) 25 May 2021 19:22:28
OP, done to death, man. Trent is staying put at RB for the foreseeable future. In any case, why move him to a new position when he is killing it at his current position where he bosses games from?

4.) 25 May 2021 20:29:40
If it ain't broke and all that.
We've just spent a whole season with players being played out of position, I'd prefer a season of stability before any experimenting!

5.) 25 May 2021 20:32:56
Forget the number on his back. He already spends much of a game beyond the halfway line, takes corners and free-kicks, often pops up in the box and chips in with the odd winner. Sounds like a midfielder to me! It's modern football. Don't worry if you can't get your head round it- neither can Gareth Southgate ;)

6.) 25 May 2021 21:07:07
Moving TAA into midfield it's not easy as U think neither he will be effective as playing RB for us atm

Playing at RB in our system gives TAA lots of space from our box to opposition box and he can affect games with he's quality.

Playing him in midfield will be wasted coz won't have much space and will be easily crowded with opposition players.

We don't have to worry what Southgate or he's staff think abt TAA. We just have to be happy he has been Unbelievable for US playing at RB.

Southgate is safety 1st manager, always has been that's not our problem if he wants to Play defensive football despite having lots of attacking talent.

If he's more worried abt Trents defensive awareness then he's end product to the likes of kane, Rashford, sterling etc then he's not going to last more. U need to take some risks if you want to win bigger prizes. I'm sure the likes of kane, Rashford, sterling etc will want those deliveries put by TAA.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m not sure you’re theory is conclusive mate. Good players adapt and somebody with trents ability surely can. Look at Beckham he had a fabulous & decorated career with mediocre talent but worked really hard. Trent is twice the player Beckham was and moving to RM I’m sure would be meat and drink for him. I truly hope he doesent tho because replacing him at wing back is near enough impossible and gonna be ridiculously expensive. Although I like the look of Walker -Peters who I’ll be watching out for next season.

7.) 26 May 2021 00:26:27
Ed mate I don't see Beckham playing midfield in today's time. Today is all abt covering the ground running, working to keep the ball then looping it consistently from midfield.

Even box to box midfielders are rare in today's time it's all abt technicality and passing the ball rather then running from deep tho. Football has changed a lot with young and current managers.

{Ed0666's Note - With respect mate Beckham did an insane amount of work off the ball that’s why fergie loved him so much. He certainly made the most of his limited ability but boy could he cross a football.

8.) 26 May 2021 02:50:28
TAA crossing is just as good if not better than DB.

9.) 26 May 2021 10:12:35
Personally think Beckham is massively under rated, would put him above Scholes for me, because he left United as he did he doesn't get a mention. Best English midfielder United have had in the Prem Era.

10.) 26 May 2021 10:42:42
Indeed, Ed666. Becks was a workhorse off the ball and did some serious hard running and graft for Utd esp in their pomp. Limited ability, technically? Yes, I agree BUT he could bend a ball around a tornado and that took some doing. TAA is twice the player Becks was and is just as good at bending a ball as Becks was. But Trent can do a whole lot more esp from deep hence, he should stay at RB. I also like your shout of Walker-Peters from Saints. One to watch for and seems to be one of the very few fullbacks who can keep Mane in check.

Just had a question and a thought to share: 1) Any news on Henderson? Hoping to have him back soon which leads me to: 2) How can we best cope without him? Seems like at Sunderland we tried having Can play his role which makes me nervous cause I'm of the opinion that Can, while I like him, is very inconsistent and when he's off, he's off for the entire day. Until the last few games, I felt that Wijni was very consistent and would be more disciplined in a deeper role, but he's struggled as well (incredibly wasteful for Sunderland) .

So what's the solution wile Henderson's out? Stewart? Grujic? Or Lucas even? Maybe we change the midfield system to not include Henderson's deeper role? I'd like to hear what you all think.

1.) 05 Jan 2017 17:14:57
Kevin Stewart should be the best possible solution right now but he is not similar to Hendo in any ways. He is a solid stopper and would work brilliant with a good neat composed CM alongside.
Lucas is not the answer anymore and Grujc is out injured. Do we have another choice?

2.) 05 Jan 2017 17:18:01
One bad game and you say he can't play that role 😂😂😂😂😂😂.

3.) 05 Jan 2017 17:36:25
Klopp doesn't prefer Lucas in the midfield anymore, even the player knows it.

4.) 05 Jan 2017 18:20:28
He doesn`t prefer Lucas anymore cos Lucas is a different type of DM, the type Klopp does not use. Now whether the player knows it, no one really knows.

5.) 05 Jan 2017 23:36:11
Can for me isn't really suited to that role, he strikes me as reckless a touch. Enjoy him moving forward and arriving in the box but passing out of a defensive position makes for squeaky bums!

6.) 06 Jan 2017 14:41:59
MIB, not based on one game, I just don't think Can is the best fit. Based on other posts, I was fearful of being accused of being too harsh on Can, but for the record, I really like Can just further forward with more freedom. My point was just that he can have the occasional off game where it seems his passing is just not quite on and he commits a lot of fouls. He is young and seems to be developing.

Another question though is Grujic fully fit yet? Could we expect to see him at some point this year?

Ok my attempt to distract from the Caulker commotion:

Ive heard some posters suggest that all our academy cbs are injured or not ready (Cleary = injured, Jones = not good enough, etc) . Can anyone summarize the CBs in the academy and where they stand? How they're getting on/ thought of? If they could be ready to be given a shot or why not (injury, too young etc. ) .

Thanks in advance for the info (and hopefully the distraction from all the Caulker complaints! )!

Love the rumor! The financial detective work is refreshing and even more exciting than someone friends ex-mum who has a one night stand with mbappes dog walker while on holiday.

Thanks for the reply Ed. I didn't know Liverpool and MU refused to discuss UCL changes. It makes this whole situation even more irritating. I know the answer is money, but I just don't see why any clubs would look to leave their domestic league. It seems crazy.

I think you make good points RedFlag. I think this is a terrible idea also, but there's a reason all the big clubs have agreed, and it's not because their completely ignorant of the fans feelings or beastly devils. It's business.

I also wonder why the UCL didn't take this threat more seriously or do more than restructure the competition. To be honest, I don't have any personal attachment to the UCL (I love the competition and seeing Liverpool playing in it, but do I feel any loyalty to the actual UCL? Not really. ) Maybe I'm alone here, but because of that I wonder if there's a way the ESL or the UCL could be restructured to be more appealing to both the fans and the owners? Maybe the "big clubs" could be given more enduring spots that wouldn't guarantee them a spot but would allow them to stay after a year or two of poor results. Obviously the owners want more financial incentive (you have to wonder why the UCL doesn't pay clubs more; if anything the ESL has shown that clubs could be making more than they currently are) and more security for their investment (not qualifying now means not long loss of revenue but that recruiting players becomes more difficult making future qualification harder) .

Finally, just want to reiterate that I am not at all in favor of the ESL, but I do think it's important to see both sides when trying to look for solutions. One final question: why does the premier league care about ESL? Do they feel threatened that teams will eventually leave altogether (because I find that hard to believe)? Are they just trying to protect the integrity of football? Or are they just cozy with UEFA?

{Ed002's Note - They have engaged with others about options and they have also just made changes to the structure. Liverpool and Manchester United are not interested in engaging with them, they want power, control and more money and to replace the CL. They did not engage or talk to them at all. Yes they are concerned about the 21 "eleite" clubs, or in all probability 16, leaving at some point.}

Woolback: great call on that team selection! Did you and Klopp discuss it over breakfast this morning?

My problem is that we have no wingers. I'd prefer firmino, jota, and mini in the central role, and id prefer jone in mid. I think we need a formation change with the players we have currently, but I'm not sure it makes sense to try a new formation for only a few weeks. If we were to try something new, I'd like to see mini and jota more central, but I don't know where we get width.

It could be rough, but I'm actually excited to see how we fair with mane and Salah away. We rely on them too much and mane has been very poor recently. I hope he comes back in form. I would like to see jota on the left, mini/ firmino in the center and Origi on the right. I agree jota hasn't been consistent in the center, but I'm curious to see how he does on the wing and origi isn't mobile enough for our false 9 role. With Jones/ ox playing the advanced mid role and Thiago back, I'm curious to see how our team copes. Everyone will know they need to step up and I'm curious to see where our goals come from. Obviously, we need some help with injuries to make this happen, but if our boys get fit, this is what I'd like to see.

Contrary opinion here, but I don't think our midfield is all that bad. Injuries/ C.V. have resulted in a million different permutations which is part of the problem. Another is missing Elliott, Jones, and Thiago for most of the season which would be my 3-5 choice starters after hendo and fabinho. Now specifically vs Chelsea, aside from hendo and fabinho being poor, I thought the difference was change in tactics that saw us surrender the middle third of the pitch to provide more cover for the defense. I could be wrong, but that's my explanation for why our passing was so labored/ inaccurate out of the defense. Our shape was different so no one was were they were expected to be and space was is different areas of the pitch when trying to play out of defense.
I think buying a mid in Jan would be a panic buy and not improve us. They always take months to get bedded in and would likely not get game time over who we already have. I think ox and keita have been disappointing but they're not terrible options right now (especially for 6-7th choice) . For me, Ox is the more solid of the two. Keita offers more going forward but is either lazy or has defensive lapses that put our defense under pressure and have resulted in conceding multiple goals. Keita is the weak link for me but I want to like him - he has the skill but seems to be missing the correct mentality. Unfortunately, I don't think we can sell him. I'd trust the kiddos over him currently.

Don't disagree that players shouldn't be abused, but Kane is getting it so hard because he has a track record doesn't he? He's always playing on the edge of the rules looking for light fouls/ pks but constantly fouling and making strong challenges himself (bit of a hypocrite himself) . I don't rate him and certainly don't respect him. He also didn't do himself any favors by claiming he thought he got the ball in his post match interview did he?
