Hopefully it means a quicker recovery than ACL. I mean he walked off pretty much. Let's pray we see him again this season.

Strange to say a break/ fracture is better news than ligaments normally.
Agree7
Disagree0
21 Dec 2025 22:44:13
Depending on the site of the fracture it could certainly have less impact on his future football than ligament instability/ reconstruction. The fibula is not classified as a weight bearing bone so if that is the bone in question, it may explain why he was able to walk off. He could have suffered a syndesmosis fracture/ sprain (high ankle sprain) . Apart from connective tissue damage and potential instability, it can also cause a fibula head fracture. This would indeed take a few months to recover from, but certainly less than ACL reconstruction.
Cheers.

22 Dec 2025 01:02:58
Coulred Not at all. Bones heal exceptionally well because they regenerate using the same biological materials as the original bone structure. This means they can heal to almost 100% of the original strength.
Ligaments on the other hand are never the same again, they scar. The tissue created during healing process is nowhere near as strong or flexible as the original tissue, making for a longer recovery process and greatly increased risk of repeat injury. Whilst modern treatment protocols play a vital role in improving the quality of the scar tissue its still impossible to repair to the original state, often resulting in a loss of stability, mobility, strength and flexibility.
We're only hearing reports of a broken leg atm, very vague, no details yet. A broken leg sounds very dramatic, but depending on the location and fracture type it may not be as bad as it sounds. He did manage to bear some weight on it with assistance which could be positive sign. Fingers crossed.

22 Dec 2025 07:07:03
Let’s hope he has a speedy and full recovery. It makes signing another forward as well as at least one CB vital in January.

May i make a possibly contentious suggestion that we don't need to buy another striker? Maybe attention should be directed elsewhere? Just saying.
Agree0
Disagree0
22 Dec 2025 08:33:45
Depends on what kind of break or fracture it is. If it's just a crack and not a full break, it can heal quite fast. He did manage to out some weight on his leg immediately after the tackle so that's a positive although the adrenaline could have been masking the pain a bit.
I joke we see him back and playing again before the end of the season.
Agree2
Disagree0
22 Dec 2025 08:48:19
Obviously still have to wait for the official news, but based on how he left the pitch, that he didn’t need oxygen, if it is a lower leg break then that would be the best case of the worst case scenarios.
And people need to remember that a broken bone isn’t just the bone snapping in half, it includes any kind of fracture from compound to hairline.
So it could be a minor fracture of the bone that will require recovery time but not something like Djirbril Cisse’s leg break.

22 Dec 2025 09:30:28
@delvecs We won't buy a striker just because Isak has in injury however I suspect that it might make us slightly more likely to move forward with a potential move for Semenyo as he can play all across the frontline so would offer a certain amount of cover through the middle and it was a move that we were already considering.
I take your point though as it is clear for everybody to see that our CB situation is unsustainable.

21 Dec 2025 12:46:38
I said this the other day.
Priority is CB for Jan be it Guehi, Schottlerbeck, Jaquet, Ait Boudal or someone else. Negotiations are ongoing for the alternatives to Guehi.
Semenyo is not seen as much of a priority signing and there is no concerns about him joining anyone else. It most likely won't be the beginnng unless someone bids for him.
The club are still 50/ 50 on giving Konate a new contract. Contract discussions are currently ongoing for Szbozslai, Gravenberch, Jones. Robertson has a contract on the table, he just have to decide his next steps.
Nothing new I'm afraid.

Cheers, Thefields.
CB is essential from a squad numbers perspective. Not doing anything here would essentially be willing to write off the season - possibly even CL qualification - which makes no sense given the revenue it now generates.
If we want to give the CL a good crack, then we also need another midfielder and a wideman.

PS TheFields, or Carra - any truth to this Oscar Mingueza link?
Seems like he's a RB that can play CB, a La Masia graduate and is going into his final year at Celta Vigo in the summer.
Gomez and Bradley's injuries continue and clearly Slot doesn't see Frimpong as a right back given yesterday's choices.

I agree that a CB is top of the list, but I think given the breaking Isak news, Semenyo might be more of a priority now.
I’d be looking at adding a RB as well - preferably Kayode from Brentford.

21 Dec 2025 16:01:51
Apparently Semenyo has a release clause that expires towards the middle of Jan, he may not be a first day signing but if he’s not with us fairly early it’s a change in what’s getting reported elsewhere. I’d agree though either a right back or centre back are a priority - ideally both.

21 Dec 2025 16:29:13
Could it also depend on Isak? The times are reporting that Liverpool are concerned about a significant injury, still waiting on scan results to be sure, but not the knee apparently.

21 Dec 2025 16:46:57
FPF, I've not heard anything about him.
It is correct that Semenyo's release clause expires mid Jan and I suspect that's why the club are prioritising a CB. Guehi is still the favourite to join but I wouldn't be surprised if Schottlerbeck come in instead. Out of the 2, I think he suits us better than Guehi. If we are to persist with the whole playing out from the back.
Isak being injured doesn't change the situation.

Rumours that Liverpool are looking to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in January.
Not sure about the player, as I have zero knowledge about most goings on in Ligue 1, but does anyone know what kind of player he is? Would he be regarded as a good signing, if he were to come in?
Whether it is Jacquet or someone else, I really hope we look to a centre back in January. We are light already in that position, and that is before considering our current/ available options. Van Dijk is approaching 35, and Gomez and Konate have been injury concerns in the recent past. Hopefully Leoni overcomes the ACL injury and becomes a fixture moving forward, and Guehi comes in either in January or the simmer. But even with these 2 additions, Van Dijk and Konate may not be at the club in a year or two, so it is important we prepare for this eventuality rather than drop ourselves in a really bad situation.

Don’t see United being an option if he is serious about his future because they are a graveyard for talent. City would be a strange choice as the already have Doku who is only 23 and a similar style player. Could be an option for there right hand side but pep often prefers a player more in the profile of cherki or even foden coming in off the right, very rare pep would go with 2 pacey winger type players! For me Semenyo has the clearest path to 1st team at Liverpool because he’s an upgrade on Gakpo and can cover/ replace Salah at least temporarily.

Few rumours to keep an eye on. We are interested in AZ Alkmaars young midfield prodigy called Kees Smit. £25m and knows Slot from his time there. a lot of big clubs watching him. Apparently Slot is pushing for him this January. A technical player with great football intelligence.
We still have interest in Assan Ouedraogo the young creative player at Red Bull Leipzig. We were interested from his time at Schalke. Seems we want a young midfielder with Alex Toth linked for next summer. Endo replacement perhaps.
Young Cardiff CB Lawlor is getting everyone's attention from the Prem aswell as Europe's big sides. Rumours we want him and are offering Calvin Ramsay as a straight swap.
Regarding Salah Italian reports and others from Egypt and Turkey suggest we want £30-40m. Galatasary want Salah and are hoping to go for him rather than Lookman.

All very plausible rumours I think.
Although I don't really buy that Slot "knows" Smit from his time at AZ. Slot left AZ in 2020, at which point Smit would have been 14.
It makes sense that we are looking at him, he looks excellent, but I don't think it will have anything to do with Slot knowing him, it's just because he's a good player that everyone is after.
Lawlor could be a great player (he was born and played his youth football just up the road from me), but no way is he ready for Prem football yet, he needs at least 2 seasons on loan or for Cardiff to get promoted and him be playing at a higher level consistently. If we bring him in now the club needs a solid plan for him, not just to let him linger round the squad for a bit before being moved on like we've done so many times.

I hope Slot will be fired soon or at least he will be stopped otherwise to hire players from lower leagues. I could not care less if he knows those dutch players or not, we need premier league proven players or at least players from a very tough league but not another little boy lost.
Every dutch or coach does the same, bringing dutch players to his club.
Louis van Gaal had i think 9 dutch players at Barcelona at the same time and did not Ten Haag got himself fired from Leverkusen for trying to buy as much players as possible from an agency his son is working with?
A club of the statue of LFC needs a top class manager from a top class league. All the others can work out but have a higher possibility of being a failure.

If I was Parish or Glassner or anybody else at Palace, I’d hang onto Guehi like a limpet. From their point of view he is their captain, a natural leader by the sounds of it and is leading Palace to one of their best seasons ever.
The further they go in Europe and the higher up the PL they finish the prize money should comfortably exceed what they would get for him in January. I’m not convinced it’s a done deal on January 1st.

Good morning all, Quick question to the people in the know here
How confident are you that we will add to the squad in January and you do see us getting a winger and a centre back in? And do you think this will be Semenyo and Guehi or maybe others who have gone under the radar?
Thanks for taking the time.

Hey ED01,
Hope you are well matey. Do you see with what’s happened and what’s been said Slot somehow turning his position around? Or is this too little to late in terms of the club and board?
Added if Slot was relieved of his duties would you take Gerrard and Heitinga as interim until a longer term like Alonso becomes available?
Thank you.

{Ed001's Note - as far as I know, Hughes has always backed Slot and he will be fine so long as performances keep improving.
I would not be a fan of any interim manager, I am not a fan of that kind of thing unlike Ed25. As he admitted last night during the podcast.}

Gerrard as interim? Come on, he was a phenomenal player for us but he is no where close to being good enough to manage us. I’ll never understand the obsession with fans wanting him as manager.

15 Dec 2025 23:14:35
Not many wanted Gerrard as manager, maybe somewhere in the coaching setup at a push. A few weeks ago things were looking a bit desperate for us, thankfully it’s improved.
There could be some rival fans on here distracting from their own managerial woes at the moment, who knows. It’s Thomas Franks turn to feel the media pressure today, probably be Amorim tomorrow. Arne’s having a nice break from it, let’s hope that continues.

No one wanted Gerrard as manager, however some were of the opinion we couldn’t do any worse at one point under Slot. Hopefully Slot can push on for now and continue to stabilise and turn things around, otherwise this will continue to raise discussion around Gerrard.

17 Dec 2025 05:17:28
I wanted Slot to leave about two or three weeks ago, primarily because the club appeared to be - at least according to social media - in complete disarray, rather than him being a poor manager. I thought a fresh face was needed to restore order. I was wrong on two counts - listening to social media and over exaggeration of the disarray.
From a football perspective I think we would not be getting rid of a manager who would have won trophies year on year. Perhaps a case of, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

5 games unbeteaten. 3 wins 2 draws. 5 conceeded, 3 clean sheets and performances are not as dire as they were. Hopefully it continues.
On Guehi, basically Palace have a choice. Cash in on him in Jan or lose him for nothing in the summer. I suspect they will cash in. They are in talks for a CB from Atalanta. Both him and Semenyo are keen on the move to Anfield, fees and wages are not a problem. If we don't get Guehi, we will sign 1 of the back up options.
With Gomez being injured again, we may go in the market for a RB. A young Italian, can't remember his name because I had too many porn star martinis last night 😂.

I really like Michael kayode very athletic can get up and down the flank with ease and looks like he can actually dig deep and defend when needed .
Guehi is needed in Jan
Semenyo I really like and would add much needed pace upfront
A right back would free up frimpong to be a rotation player on the right wing as he is more winger than full back . And someone to rotate with Bradley at full back allowing Gomez to cover centre half off the bench and when needed for his minutes .
Kayode would be a great choice but won’t be cheap although we have great relationship with Brentford.

Kayode is a good shout. Exactly the kind of piece you assume was dry-fitted in the summer, especially given how freely we were adding items to the trolley. That we didn’t pull it off the shelf feels deliberate rather than forgetful.
My read is the club are committed to BRADLEY (pre-owned) and don’t want to block the runner. You don’t install a temporary unit in front of something you believe will hold weight. He’s already shown what happens when the opponent arrives wearing white and the room is loud.
What remains is durability and conditioning of the imagination. Fewer sick notes, more visualisation. If every winger can be mentally relabelled “Madrid, ” the need for an additional bracket reduces significantly.

The fact that the 2 draws were against promoted sides and Brighton played the exact opposite of the type of football we have been struggling against.
Hoping we’ve turned a corner but so unconvinced by Slot’s tactical ability at this point. The football we play is tiresome to watch even if we are now getting results. We have far too good a squad to be playing so badly.

As with one or two other posters, @Brummy, you’ve conveniently overlooked the Milan match. Someone, I can’t remember who, tried to pass it off as being a European game presumably because they play those games under different rules.
We are going in the right direction. We are joint 5th in one of - if not the - toughest club leagues in the world having performed poorly for about three quarters of the games we have played so far. As you say the recent results are getting better - why not try and see the positives?

They were in the Champions League Final at the end of last season. Obviously they equate with a National League North side in English terms.
I thought it was good to watch.
Perhaps I went into the match without the pre-written script that a number of people have that says we are bad so we are going to be bad and people see everything that happens as being poor or awful, irrespective of what’s actually happening.

Hi Diddly Ho,
Mo and Arne have had clear the air talks and Mo will not be leaving in January.
Mo does not want to leave the club.
Ask mentioned just before that interview, Mo and the management team are on different ideologies. That is still the case, but things are not all doom and gloom.
Both Mo and Arne want what’s best for the club overall, this isn’t all about Mo being dropped.
Semenyo is expected to come in January as a RW option, not an immediate replacement - as has always been the case. The club want a deal done early but Bournemouth may try prolong it.
Guehi again, nothing has changed. He’s wanted by us by CP haven’t budged on their fee.
I hope my next update is a development on one of the deals being close/ done.
Please don’t forget to support our club in the good AND the bad A criticism is acceptable but it needs to be for the good of those in charge as of now.
If not before, Happy Holidays to all and the best in the new year.

Hi ned . thanks as usual
Got to be honest semenyo in from Jan sounds like another explosion ready to happen .
If he is indeed mos replacement long term he is obviously going straight in the team . mo is away all will be fine . but what happens when mo comes back. ? Is he going to fight for his place or just expect to be started . or even if he gets subbed off .
I hope we don't mess about with CP . we want guehi. we need him especially with lack of depth or options there . so just pay the fee and get it done.
I don't suppose you have heard anything on poor Harvey? Likely coming back in jan . hope he just doesn't sit on the bench like the other non slot favourites.
Happy days. hopefully a week between games means we can work on some very good game plans .

@MightyR3ds
I’m not sure on how the rotation will work when Mo returns - but we continue to start seeing our new signings become a core towards - certainly something to be excited for.
As for Harvey the last update (few weeks ago) I had was the club and AV are exploring options to end the loan early. A early termination fee will be paid by Villa but I’m unsure of the amount, may be negligible especially if we are able to move him elsewhere. I did know of a couple of German clubs interested, but I wouldn’t be surprised if other clubs come in from elsewhere.
In my own opinion I really think Villa have messed Harvey around - this is just me speculating but it wouldn’t surprise me if Emery didn’t know about the deal until it was done. Surprisingly common in football these days.

I really don’t think anyone on this site is not supporting the the team and criticism is required when things are not correct otherwise your living in a dictatorship. Slot has rightfully been criticised along with some players and club officials. All the fans want the best for the club and team it’s that simple.

The Salah stuff is all posturing, surely. He is at peak value now in the context of a 2 year contract, and his form is usually woeful following AFCON.
Semenyo is ready now and will open up space for others. Mo won't fancy being a sub.

14 Dec 2025 12:26:12
It’s not just about Mo being happy either. The club can’t afford Mo not to be in the starting eleven. He’s being paid way too much to turn into a rotation option.
From a wage perspective somebody on those wages needs to be a pivotal part of the team.

14 Dec 2025 12:31:55
I think the thing is @Coul that some of the criticism is just personal opinion and not really based in fact and / or without any understanding of context within the club. You also have to remember that FSG own the club and have the right, as owners, to do whatever they want.
That’s not a dictatorship, that’s business decisions down to the owners. If you, me or anybody else expresses any opinion about the club FSG ignoring the opinion isn’t a dictatorship.

City and Spurs both want Semenyo and going hard for him aswell as us. I think all three will agree fees and it will be upto the player to decide. We have until 10th January. Nothing Bournemouth can do if we offer the release clause and player agrees. Guehi I don't reckon will happen in January.
Glasner already unhappy with Parish about not bringing in players in the summer so will not want to lose his captain midway and Guehi is an honourable man. Expect him on a free in the summer and another perhaps Ordonoz coming in January.

The club aren't just going to pay silly money either for Guehi either with him being free in a few months. And they shudnt either. if its true Palace are asking what they were asking for him in the summer well that's just silly. We were getting offered 20m for Trent Arnold last year, that's the most the club should be offering for Guehi.
Agree3
Disagree0
14 Dec 2025 14:05:20
I think one of Jacquet or Ordonez is more likely to arrive than Guehi given Palace are participating in another strong season. Glasner and Parish won't want outgoings.
Semenyo seems like the one Hughes wants, so can see that one happening too.
I read that our scouts are watching Rennes v Brest and Lyon v Le Havre this weekend.
Jacquet was suspended and Fofana is out injured, so maybe they are watching other targets.

Ned, I’m of the view that the Villa loan was a waste of time. Elliott would be better served going to Germany, France, or Spain he’d flourish playing regularly in a less physical and more technical level of football. He was never going to succeed at Villa because as soon as results go badly, he’d be the first one dropped.
