Just back from the match, hats off to the lads, am absolutely brilliant all round performance.

One small detail I liked tonight, don't get me wrong, it didn't pay off or happen every time, but Karius was looking to release the ball and was looking for runners at every opportunity.

Hope Moreno is ok, he seemed to be in a lot of pain.

Great night, Everton next.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed0333's Note - Doesent Karius look to release the ball early at every opportunity? Just one reason why he should be given the gloves full time.

06 Dec 2017 23:37:23
A absolutely ed 333, as soon as he received the ball his first intstinct was to look up. I’d seriously give him a run of games with Ward as his back up.

{Ed0333's Note - To be honest I’d have Stephane Henchoz in goal before Migs. I think most Liverpool fans agree Migs doesn’t deserve the gloves and it’s Karius or Wards time. Shame Kloppo doesn’t see what we see.

07 Dec 2017 00:29:46
He's just prepping. Thank God him being goal for the Champions League so far has been a success. He will become our number one.

07 Dec 2017 00:48:58
Completely agree. If u watch his jumping technic for Willian's goal, it's shockingly bad : he used his left hand instead of the right as the ball was heading towards his right side so he couldn't stretch anymore. Basic staff. I'm even more shocked at our insistance with Achterberg, he should be picking those basic mistakes. And on the training videos, we can see that it's JA who is kicking the balls to the keepers. isn't it better to let to one good shooter of our team and let the goal keeper coach observe the mistakes.?

07 Dec 2017 01:22:46
karius was good tonight, except the sweeper keeper move that went wrong, but he made some decent saves, one good save. I like him, I think he will get better, the more confident he gets, that confidence will come with game time. I appreiciate what migs did last season and the important penalties he has saved but his time is up. Dudek was never given this much time and he was twice the keeper migs is, Karius for no1 it just makes sense all round.

07 Dec 2017 05:00:05
Hardly the worst sweeper keeper move we’ve seen this season 😂 Migs got very lucky when he should have been sent off against Stoke.

07 Dec 2017 13:04:07
Karius looks like a goalie, mingolet doesnt, he's awkward catching, jumping, kicking, diving.
I think there is mistakes in Karius too by the way but he needs experience, only way to get it is to play.

07 Dec 2017 13:06:17
Henchoz was a great stand in goalie! He was even 'handy' when he didn't have the gloves on ;)

06 Dec 2017 23:16:25
just been watching highlights of the match on itv and watching roy Keane who had a gob on him like a wet echo talking about Liverpool he was saying we havnt played anyone yet and there's bigger tests to come dosnt that go for all the British teams there won't be many teams who fancy playing us over 2 legs as for Keane what did he say a couple of weeks ago wouldn't watch Liverpool if they were playing in his backyard watching us today and commenting on it must have killed him 😁. well done to the lads tonight looking forward to Sunday now.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed0333's Note - To be fair mate we’ve only won a group that we were expected to win. So he has a bit of a point.

06 Dec 2017 23:41:20
I agree too be great we have too do great things, in terms of beating quality sides but it's great progress to qualify an money good for qualifying hope we can really kick on an get better we have so much potential especially if we strengthen defence.

{Ed0333's Note - As Ed’s 001 keeps telling me the whole world is looking for central defenders that can defend and their not easy to find. I’m still hopeful we can magic a Hyppia, Henchoz or a Carragher from somewhere in January.

06 Dec 2017 23:44:25
Yeah but we broke two records winning it eds0333, tonite is a happy night we should partaaah.

{Ed0333's Note - I’m wayyyyy to old to party I’ll just have a celebaratory slice of water melon and leave the grooving to the youth like you mate.

07 Dec 2017 00:07:36
If your older than me eds fair enough but I'm on the back 9 myself and I'm getting close to Ron's level of optimism for this team.

{Ed0333's Note - Alas im not a spring chicken I still remember grooving to Shakin Stevens and shwaddywaddy. Did I just admit to that?

07 Dec 2017 00:12:53
I know why can't we unearth a gem of a defender, we did well with Gomez surely there is quality out there.

{Ed0333's Note - if City can’t find a good up with all their cash what does that say about the availability of quality defenders mate.

07 Dec 2017 03:34:44
him saying we haven't played anyone yet is stupid though. we have played the teams who qualified for the tournament, and battered most of them. There are only one real madrid, munich and Juventus. They can't be in every group. I agree, although we are far fronm favourites to win it, no one will fancy us atm.

07 Dec 2017 06:48:48
Too right Superred, there are no easy games in the champions league - unless you're in a group with the mighty Basel, CSKA Moscow and Benfica.

07 Dec 2017 09:19:16
It doesn't matter who is in your group. Winning two games with 7 goals scored is a genuine show of strength.

06 Dec 2017 22:56:25
Oh for a 20 goal a season striker and a dm
.
Great performance by us, and to be fair Moscow weren't that bad today they pressed high up early doors and had high energy, we just blew them away.

Truly believe we are going to set a new LFC scoring record this yr (without a striker) .

Believable5 Unbelievable1

07 Dec 2017 00:31:10
Is that a joke? We've got about 5 players who could get 20!

06 Dec 2017 22:42:41
Did the right full back who was bamboozled by Coutinhos dummy have to pay to get back into the stadium?

Believable9 Unbelievable0

{Ed0333's Note - hilarious lol

06 Dec 2017 23:45:15
Luv it.

06 Dec 2017 22:40:56
From a spurs fan I think you are the best footballing side in the league to watch and I've said many of times you are a defence away from dominating this league. At the moment if you offered me the chance to watch either you, Madrid, Barcelona etc I would take Liverpool every week. As my club as gone missing in the league yet again I hope you boys push the sugar daddy clubs at the top of the league.

Believable30 Unbelievable0

06 Dec 2017 22:57:49
From all us reds thanks very much raver it's nice to hear from a rival fan.

06 Dec 2017 23:53:36
Cheers raver, when your team blew us away I really thought that you were the real deal.
Time for many twists and turns yet, city seem to be running out of steam so lots to play for.

06 Dec 2017 22:26:27
Last 16 for the first time in 9 years. Klopp's building project continues in the right direction.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

{Ed0333's Note - I didn’t realize it had been that long since we were in the last 16, that truly is a startling statistic mate. Oh those Halcyon days marauding round Europe with Rafa’s Red and White army, when we conquered, humiliated and humbled every foe in our path. Let’s hope Klopp can lead us on a similar odyssey.

06 Dec 2017 22:38:40
333 easy mate. ✌😏👍.

{Ed0333's Note - yes you’re right mate. Thanks for sedating me. I tend to get emotional and tears eyed when I remember the Rafa years. Irrespective of what others may think I feel he was a gentleman, a red and white soldier and a thoroughly good football manager/coach. If he hadn’t had fought our corner against H&G who knows what would have happened. I loved the guy and always will. I just hope Klopp can emulate Rafa’s Champions League win sometime soon.

06 Dec 2017 23:02:01
Let's hope so 333 but I believe he will get it right, hopefully we get abit luck and over a 2 legged tie imo we are capable of beating anybody it might just happen this year even in klopp we believe mate.

{Ed0333's Note - I’m pretty sure we won’t win the competition this year. But no one gave us a hope in 2005 and look what happened then. There I go being all nostalgic again.

06 Dec 2017 23:15:35
333 like you say 2005 was unexpected u just never know and when we are on like tonight it's just breathtaking it really is, although a do still think rafa is one of the best tacticians in football imo, however I think we have a better team now than in 2005 mate.

{Ed0333's Note - We may have a ‘better’ team now which of course is disputable but that team won the Champions league so let’s just see what transpires. Let’s hope we win the tin pot this season and we’re having the ‘Who is the better team’ conversation come May.

06 Dec 2017 23:19:30
Wow! ✌🙄.

06 Dec 2017 23:23:15
There is always a chance and we score plenty of goals. I love Rafa as well (even if just for the songs) . My negative with Rafa was that he forced Alonso out. I just don't get it and it started a downward spiral.

{Ed0333's Note - Every great leader is fallible mate and makes mistakes. I won’t hold the Alonso debacle against him. I remember him for the multitude of positive and happy footballing memories he gave me, and for his tireless charity work.

06 Dec 2017 23:37:15
Yes nobody is perfect. Yes you are right he gave me planty of feel good factor.

07 Dec 2017 00:03:15
Are we really better than the 2005 team? Comparing the team we played just now with the team that played in the final:

GK - Karius or Dudek? Dudek's double save against Sheva and his penalty antics were amazing, but I'd go for Karius

RB - Gomez or Finnan? Gomez is one of the brightest young talents but Finnan gradually became one of the most consistent RBs in the PL, so Finnan

CB (R) - Lovren or Hyypia? No contest, Hyypia

CB (L) - Klavan or Carragher? Again, no contest, Carragher

LB - Moreno or Traore? Moreno's improvement this year means Moreno wins for sure

CM - Wijnaldum or Gerrard? No way is Captain Fantastic losing this one, Gerrard all the way

CM - Can or Alonso? Alonso is one of the greatest of all time, so no contest, Alonso

RM - Mane or Garcia? Garcia was a fantastic little player, technically brilliant but Mane's searing pace and power is just too much, so Mane

LM - Coutinho or Riise? Riise's left foot was a bloody rocket but Coutinho truly matured into one of the best attacking midfielders last season, and this season, his form has slowly picked up again, so I'd go for Couts

CAM - Firmino or Kewell? Unfortunately, Kewell rarely ever showed his qualities for us, and Firmino has been an undeniable success for us so far. His pressing and link-up play has been terrific (and so has his finishing, to be honest) so I'd plump for Firmino

ST - Salah or Baros? Even though Salah's only been with us for a few months, his pace and finishing beats Baros for sure, who I've always thought was a rather selfish player

Overall:

Karius, Finnan, Hyypia, Carragher, Moreno, Mane, Gerrard, Alonso, Coutinho, Firmino and Salah. 2017 Liverpool just about edges it.

{Ed0333's Note - wow great post mate you must have a lot of time on your hands

07 Dec 2017 00:55:06
Dont forget that Milan team was also full of all time greats and could win Cl today.

07 Dec 2017 00:56:38
Well said 333, look back at all that Rafa did, we owe him a lot.

We may have a better attack than 2005 but our midfield and defence isn’t there yet. It’s a stretch to assume we aren’t going to win 4 on the trot against sides left in the last 16 but you never know. feels like we’re playing a much more balanced game now, protecting the back 4 better and with our front 3 you just never know. So long as we keep playing Karius in goal.

07 Dec 2017 13:03:18
i'd be happy if we got 3rd in league atleast quarters in champs league and win the f a cup that would be improvement from last season and enough imo of course.

06 Dec 2017 22:04:27
Only 4 unbeaten teams left in the Champions league. Barcelona, Tottenham, Besiktas and Liverpool!

Everyone is so busy fantasizing about PSG and City that they're ignoring us. We have just broken the record for the most goals scored in a Champions League group stage by an English side. I'm glad we're getting ignored. Just cruising under the radar, quietly going about our business like good little dark horses! 😉.

Believable15 Unbelievable2

06 Dec 2017 22:25:59
Are we top scorers aswell mk? On our day mk we will dispose of any of those teams in the same way imo that is.

06 Dec 2017 22:20:30
no team will want to face us, I think having the second leg at Anfield is massive irregardless of whoever we draw. I think the team I’d least want is Juventus, I know there’s Bayern and Madrid too but Madrid are either brilliant or terrible and Bayern can be got at in my opinion.

We did break the record for goals scored by an English team tonight which is great, but still 2 shy of the actual record which was set this season by PSG so I still make them the team to beat in the whole competition.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching us tonight and was willing Salah to score so much haha.

06 Dec 2017 22:30:49
Second top scorers ever, PSG first -this season!
Hats off to Spurs though, dropping two points with Dortmund and Madrid is a feat no matter how they played!

06 Dec 2017 22:20:30

One game at a time all, we play who we draw and use the crowd to the advantage.

Hats of to PC tonight unbelivable performance.

06 Dec 2017 22:40:26
A 7-0 win is not under the radar mate!

06 Dec 2017 22:43:37
Hey Mk, I am not sure we under the radar now. I think it would be a 50-50 fight with City. Its been 9 years since we got to the later stages of the CL, a big shock to me when I heard it. I really hope we become a regular again.

A big mention for

Moreno - our second best player this season, I hope its not as bad as it looks.

Firmino (spelt right for a change) perfect game for him. Didn't put a foot wrong in the first half. Second half he was still working more than the rest and I was screaming for Klopp to take him off. For once he took him off at the nearly the right time. 70 minutes would be my default postion to take him off in every game. Klopp must manage him better.

Mane - not playing his best, he is searching for his top form but he has so much quality that he still has a big effect on the game. When he hits his top form the rest of the teams better watch out.

06 Dec 2017 22:44:10
Yeah firmane hats of to spurs but to be honest a don't fear playing any team.

07 Dec 2017 01:00:52
It was an excellent performance but let’s be honest, we drew twice against Sevilla and only beat two sides we were expected to beat with ease.

Looking at how we played vs better sides this season it’s not like we should be getting carried away. Long way to go yet and I’d still rank us underdogs vs at least half the teams that are left.

06 Dec 2017 22:03:52
Hi Ed's, I've heard a ............

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - this is the Liverpool page - we are not going to answer questions about random players.}

06 Dec 2017 21:56:53
All you idiots that were calling for Klopp’s head (Harry and the like) hang your heads in shame. Yes we will have bad spells and results but this team is on to something really special.

Believable16 Unbelievable2

06 Dec 2017 22:08:05
Agree somewhat. BUT let's not use a good result to poke at each other. Let's just enjoy it!

If we'd lost 7-0, we wouldn't be happy if the glass half empty brigade came on here shouting their mouths off. I've been in your corner, and I love your positivity, Ings. Stay humble though buddy.

06 Dec 2017 22:15:52
Yeah am with mk there let's keep the positivity going ings without needing to call others idiots pal, but your entitled to be over joyed buddy.

06 Dec 2017 22:16:08
I can stay humble MK but it’s frustrating when our own fans can’t wait for us to lose so they can say I told you so. Harry is the worst culprit closely followed by Mr Dennis.
How many 7-0 or 7-1 scorelines do you see in the CL? Not many! And we’ve done it in 1 season! Just give Klopp time to get his players in defensively and we will be a force. We already are!

06 Dec 2017 22:28:47
100% with you there ings al say it agen we as good as any other team in Europe on our day, the speed and accuracy that we breakaway with is simply breathtaking mate.

06 Dec 2017 22:45:34
Opinions and frustration are often hard to contain on the back of a poor result. We are all on this journey together let's enjoy the good times which are all the sweeter for the bad ones experienced.

Onwards and upwards.

06 Dec 2017 23:17:28
I am definitely a glass half empty, I prefer realist. let's not go overboard. You don't want people coming on here after an average performance saying this and that. LFC were great today but its a very long season and most of the cracks are still there. The cracks are just not getting tested by the opposition at the moment.

06 Dec 2017 21:31:32
Looking forward to eds review of this 😁.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am looking forward to watching it again tomorrow ahead of writing it. What a performance!!!}

06 Dec 2017 22:48:31
I thought even Gini had a decent game. What a left foot cross by Milner. My only slight negative was Karius (who was decent otherwise) what was he doing rushing miles out? If Trent wasn't there he would have been no where near the ball.

06 Dec 2017 22:57:49
That's because Trent wasn't there, Gomez was!

06 Dec 2017 23:18:36
Lucky he didn't take him out, Gomez that is.

07 Dec 2017 00:24:52
Id much rather the GK makes a decision than stand there like a rabbit in the headlights hoping someone will bail him out. Yeah Karius might make a mistake every now and then but defenders prefer decisive GKs. Besides how is he going to learn if he only ever plays it safe?

06 Dec 2017 21:37:35
Ray Houghton was doing commentary for RTE, summed it up nicely at 5-0:

"Do you remember the Harlem Globetrotters? "

Believable8 Unbelievable0

06 Dec 2017 21:36:44
You can't help but sit back and smile after a game like that. Playing to our full potential!

Believable9 Unbelievable0

06 Dec 2017 21:36:30
Absolute load of rubbish Liverpool are midfield are crap, we don't have a 20 goal a season hitman, the defence a waste of space. Oh hold on another game we won 7 zip but can imagine the likes of harry and co will still have something negative about the t.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

06 Dec 2017 21:35:06
Salah has made 21 appearances this season and has scored 17 so far. What a season he's having.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

06 Dec 2017 21:55:52
He is that big al what a signing seems 30 of million was an absolute bargain mate.

07 Dec 2017 13:01:32
Bah! Unless its a goal a game, he wasn't worth the money.

;-)

06 Dec 2017 21:01:52
I bet the people moaning about coutino been captain won't be moaning now you can't set more of an example than a hat trick as captain get off his back an remember what he has done for us.

Believable7 Unbelievable4

06 Dec 2017 21:44:40
The thing is mate we could win 10 zip and harry and co will still be out bashing the team! The truth is on our day we will hammer any team we come up against weather it's city real, psg. Yes we might not be as consistent as we'd like but that will change as soon as we get our first bit silverware, so for having a defence that are a waste of time, a nonexistent midfield and a false nine that doesn't score enough or do enough to be on the verge of a top top player then a think we are doing mighty fine. However the bitches will tell you we got lucky unfortunately come on the mighty reds YNWL.

06 Dec 2017 21:58:34
Exactly! I hate all off the ‘nobody is bigger than the club’ BS nobody has ever said Coutinho Is bigger than the club! Play like this more regularly and we might give the lad a reason to want to stay, you get nowhere selling your best players, we do the same thing every few seasons ‘I don’t want want suarez he's not bigger than the club’ he goes we take 4 steps back, we did the same when Torres left it took us time to get back to where we were, keep your better players improve the team and try convince your best players to stay. THE lads played great today it looked so easy and natural at times it was scary. Hope Moreno is okay and gets fit soon, a real example of where hard work can get you.

06 Dec 2017 22:32:23
Does it really mater who worse the armband behind hendo Milner and mignolet?

07 Dec 2017 13:02:14
To be fair Barnesy, we didn't go backwards when Torres left, as Suarez came in (ignore the whole Carroll thing! ), we won a cup the following season (our only trophy in 11 years), and then followed Sturridge and Coutinho.

We definitely suffered when Suarez left, and we would've been lost without Gerrard from the time he became our captain.

Our problem has been that we have relied on one or two key players in the last 15 years or so - Gerrard and Owen, Gerrard and Alonso, Gerrard and Torres, Suarez etc. Whilst I don't want to lose Coutinho, we are more than a 1/ 2 player team now, we have talent all over the middle/ front of the park (notable omissions at the back! ), and, although he is not the same type of player, we have Keita already lined up for next summer, who will again move us on. I'm also keen to see how Lallana could play in the advanced midfield role that Couts is playing at the moment, with MSF in front of him.

I honestly feel that, this time, when Couts eventually goes, we won't suffer the same dip we saw post Suarez. We are (more often than not) greater than the sum of our parts.

06 Dec 2017 19:21:31
Thoughts on Coutinho captaining the side today ed001?

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I don't understand that, he is not a leader and he has not deserved it. Though it is up to him to respond with a performance and good attitude. Fingers crossed it is the right choice.}

06 Dec 2017 20:09:59
Agree with yo Ed1 but hey 2 goals what do we know! Bobby just brilliant.

06 Dec 2017 20:29:28
Bobby has been absolutely top drawer tonight.

06 Dec 2017 20:41:32
He could smile a bit. Maybe if he gets a hat trick? What do people think? Is he being focussed or does he hate it so much at Anfield?

06 Dec 2017 21:01:15
He just being professional but unfortunately just wants out.

06 Dec 2017 21:05:44
Seems to have been the right choice lol.

06 Dec 2017 21:49:00
Ed01 a agree that he hasn't deserved it but by good that's one way to put the doubters to bed. look forward to your match review with a huge smile on me face like all us reds should have, But am sure the moaners will say we were lucky and we still not good enough unfortunately instead of enjoying what was a very good performance.

{Ed001's Note - I am just wondering how many we would have got if Bobby wasn't so crap and unable to score, as we have been told repeatedly!}

06 Dec 2017 21:59:52
I’d say he’s as much of a leader as henderson to be fair, just my opinion like, as a squad they all seem like good lads but no true leader there I think a fair few clubs are suffering with this at the minute though.

06 Dec 2017 22:23:48
Yeah ed01 a get what you are saying there mate, the truth is the exact opposite of what some posters say, imo without him a don't believe we would be as good as we are but just maybe we are watching a different player to some or maybe we just make it up lol.

06 Dec 2017 23:12:00
Hey Ed001. We don't have any leaders! Firmino was of course brilliant today, he didn't put a foot wrong in the first half. He glued the whole performance together. I don't recall anyone saying he was crap, (well maybe me but I was trying to make a point) . No one is saying he can't score goals, I bloody hope he can score goals he is our centre forward.

I just don't think it works when some players are injured or off form. Its more a change of system I am after, when its not going full tilt.

{Ed001's Note - why? The forwards are not the problem. This is idiocy that people constantly want to change the bits that are working to fix a problem that doesn't exist.}

06 Dec 2017 18:55:39
To me, on current form, the lineup tonight is our strongest! Could argue for hendo in for can or gini. Can in for his physicality and although gini has been quiet of late he's an all rounder and hopefully wakes up tonigh!
Come on lads!

Believable5 Unbelievable0

06 Dec 2017 22:00:18
I wouldn’t argue for Henderson over can, gini maybe though.

06 Dec 2017 22:44:03
Still?

06 Dec 2017 18:41:21
Coutinho is captain tonight.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

06 Dec 2017 19:06:15
The players who are captaining our team in the absence of Hendo or Milner really does hit home the lack of leadership in the side currently, imo.

Mignolet, who's game is plagued by hesitancy and doubt is third choice captain, and it seems Coutinho, who actively wants to leave the club, and never really struck me as a leader anyway, is fourth choice. So they're the best leaders we have then? I really hope Keita's a natural leader.

And yes, I know The Cannibal captained the team occasionally in his last season whilst wanting to play for Barcelona, but at least there some sliver of sense in that because his unrelenting need to win could drag guys along with him. I don't think Coutinho has that.

06 Dec 2017 19:20:57
Every player should lead in there own right, not just one person.

06 Dec 2017 19:30:00
Shocking decision for me.

06 Dec 2017 20:03:06
Its an armband these days, no more. Shake hands, get a photo taken and decide which end to play first, that's it. The likes of a John Terry or Steve Gerrard were a dying breed, players who rallied the team if things were going tits up.

06 Dec 2017 20:43:54
I think Klopp just picks the longest serving player on the field to captain when Henderson isn't playing. I'm sure it was mentioned a while ago.

06 Dec 2017 22:01:25
Coutinho plays a blinder, the team play well and we hammer a decent team. He was their whenever somebody was down injured, he captained the team very well I’d say.

06 Dec 2017 16:46:48
Just to clean up the post on Liverpool page, I've put this on the other pages lads.
Hi boys. So on the Liverpool page we've started a thread about a charity football match in the summer of 2018, held in the midlands.
Eds 1 and 2 will be the arm chair managers of the two teams in which we will aim to live stream the match on the sites.
There will be a cut off after the first 50 entries, at which point the usernames will be passed onto the eds for them to pick their teams (15 each)
It will be £35 per player, so we raise over a thousand pounds for the eds charities.
If interested, please email benjaminallen1991@hotmail. co. uk and include
Real name
Username
Age
Position
1 strength
1 weakness

get in touch asap.

Cheers.

Absolutely terrific idea! Cheers to the folks organizing this. It exemplifies the value of this site. Its so much more than a forum, its a community!

06 Dec 2017 20:35:43
Any rough idea of a date? I'll be back in the UK mid next year and would love to show you all how good I was ☺.

06 Dec 2017 20:48:05
Hello Benny, beautiful idea as BR would say. I was guessing if it's possible to create 3 to 4 teams for several matches (winner stays and the team with most wins gets the trophy from the eds. ) .

06 Dec 2017 22:02:14
I won’t Be able to attend but so long as the charity is an agreeable cause I’ll be more than happy to donate, good luck fellas and have fun!

06 Dec 2017 15:13:48
Feels like the calm before the storm.

06 Dec 2017 17:51:05
Well, it is in Scotland 🤝.

06 Dec 2017 18:31:43
I know. The tension is unbearable. I reckon it'll finish Ed001 7-3 Ed002.

06 Dec 2017 18:49:55
Whoever gets Ron will have the most positive half time talk ever given 😂.

06 Dec 2017 13:36:43
With all 5 English teams hopefully qualifying this can only be good news regarding the premiership keeping 4 teams in the tournament. Am I right?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

06 Dec 2017 13:56:14
It should do our coefficient no harm! I still thing we need to aim for 2 teams in the semis though.

06 Dec 2017 14:08:41
I thought the coefficient malarky had stopped, and England was now guaranteed 4 places in the CL no matter what.

06 Dec 2017 14:25:38
Considering Everton's Europa League 'performance', it certainly was required that we all did a decent job.

06 Dec 2017 15:07:30
Bloody hell fella’s, ever heard of tempting fate?!

06 Dec 2017 17:04:27
Im pretty sure Nick is right, we have a permanent 4 spots.

06 Dec 2017 12:00:44
I was just reading down page and seen posters saying about when Coutinho eventually leaves too sign GK, CB Etc and coudint agree more as that’s the area field we struggle and seen Oblak being discussed he is world class keeper we won’t get him, I maybe only one thinks this but what are people’s opinions off Jack Butland I feel he should be England’s number 1 and believe Stoke woudint ask over hill amount possibly could there be possibility Stoke selling Come the summer time Eds? Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Stoke won't be looking to sell and Liverpool have not shown any interest.}

06 Dec 2017 12:24:45
I don't like him at all. He flaps at crosses, he tries to make every save look overly dramatic thus giving away lots of silly corners, his kicking is awful and he seems to be injury prone now as well. Credit where it's due, he is actually a decent shot stopper despite the dramatics, and he is a good organiser. I just don't think he is the answer, and certainly not at the price Stoke will want if he is England's number 1 in Russia.

If we want an English keeper, Freddie Woodman would be a good shout for the future, or Nick Pope as a short term reliable solution.

Hart, Forster, Foster, Pickford, Heaton and Butland are all grossly over rated. Pickford has shown no signs of learning from his mistakes, but he is the best of that average lot.

06 Dec 2017 13:57:18
I wouldn't go for Oblak and Butland as their teams defence sit deep giving them more protection, while we play a high line so we need a sweeper keeper in my opinion. The likes of Keylor Navas, Hugo LLoris or Neuer would be great options but they would never be interested in coming to us. Only realistic option I see is Rui Patricio from Sporting who we have shown interest in before.

06 Dec 2017 14:37:50
Also someone who’s concentration levels are good as there can be long spells of games with nothing to do also chuck in good organisational skills to keep those CB’s on their toes and focused wouldn’t go amiss.

06 Dec 2017 18:23:05
Aren’t sweeper keepers more suited to a higher line? Who’s out there who could play the role, loris does it marvellously but that’s a no go, I think Butland is injured far too often oblak wouldn’t come. I watched a fair bit of time horn last season thought he was good all rounder, but as Ed002 stayed, we have 4 keepers on the books we need to get rid of some before we bring some in. Quite hard nestle is like to see more of karius and ward but I’d be equally happy with a kull if that position and start a fresh.

06 Dec 2017 19:08:25
Ive got an idea, it might be a bit far out there though. Why not try Ward in nets?

Baz.

06 Dec 2017 11:09:57
Its no secret we need a new Centre back. But some of the names being mentioned don't make sense to me.

We are definatly going to need to spend big and make this a priority, But that really doesn't mean to buy a big name.

We need a cb who is a leader for a start so while dayot? and manolas are very good are they leaders/ organisers? is de vrij?

We need someone who knows what there doing who can walk into our defence and lead it, A sort of captain of the defence like sakho was.

Most cb's of this quality will not be for sale unless we go as big as the neymar fee. but there is 1 in my opinion who is all of those things and not as expensive.

Soi take my hat off to MK scouser who has been banging the drum of Ben Gibson for a long time now. no he isn't a fancy name, but he is a leader who will keep his cb partner on his toes just like carra did, And i think he would partner de vrij really well as long as karius/ ward is in goal.

What do you reds think. Surely a leader is one of the most important qualities we need now.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - The club has players in mind and certainly there is no centre back that will be costing anything like the fee that was paid for Neymar. You need to forget the financial matters completely.}

06 Dec 2017 11:25:11
Sorry ed i didn't mean any centre back, i was referring to the top centre backs like varane who will cost quite a lot for real to even consider selling, a lot of the players we are looking at won't cost that but not very many are leaders either.

{Ed002's Note - You are a million miles away with your ideas about costs.}

06 Dec 2017 11:47:42
Completely agree mate. There are lots of good leaders about but it is a quality which seems to have been consigned to being a thing of the past. Everyone wants fast ball playing centre backs nowadays. Mertesacker can't get a game for Arsenal but every time he plays Arsenal look more solid.

Though i will add, De Vrij is very much a leader. He was captain of Feynoord at about 20 years old, and he calls the shots in his Lazio backline.

Gibson does seem to have lost his way a bit this season, but put him next to a player like Matip or Lovren who have ability but no intelligence, and i personally think Gibson would thrive. He's wasted in the Championship. He isn't alone though. The Wolves, Cardiff and Barnsley captains are all very solid defensive leaders. Even in the Premier League you have Mee, Lascelles and Evans who are all excellent leaders at the back, but go completely undet the radar.

It's a travesty. British football has tried so hard to mimic it's exotic counterparts, that it has forgotten it's roots. We've long produced some of the best centre backs in the game. Just 15 years ago we had Adams, Keown, Terry, Campbell, Ferdinand, Carragher and King. Now look at it. Stones, Maguire and Keane? But at least they can pass out from the back, right?

It's a massive shame. The art of defending is generally lost on the top of the European game. Wing backs, sweeper keepers, deep lying playmakers and ball playing centre backs are the new order. It's exciting, but it not good for the heart when you're watching your own team!

06 Dec 2017 12:33:00
Germany Italy pretty much changed the game with regards to defending, they are solid, can play out of from the back, just because the current crop of English CB have not been great doesn’t mean we are trying to continentalise our selves. We rely too much on this belief in ‘heart’ and ‘bravery’ when in reality if we embraced more aspects for European defending perhaps we’d do better in European competitions instead of turning to stoke like tactics. If the art of defending is taking the ball and the man it’s no wonder we’re so far behind the top nations.

06 Dec 2017 12:37:31
Mk, I have kept an eye out for Ben Gibson, since he dropped down a division, one thing, is that he doesn't seem to miss a game, he is a Leader, solid, he would have jumped at the move to Liverpool, not sure that he has the class for us, but he would be an improvement on what we have right now .

06 Dec 2017 13:48:03
Barnes, the art of defending is keeping the ball out of your net. Therefore traits such as heart, desire, leadership, tactical awareness, bravery etc are always going to be more valuable than pace and being good on the ball.

Italy and Germany are shocking examples. The last Germany team to win anything had Per Mertesacker leading the defence. Also, Portugal won the last tournament with Carvalho, Pepe and Fonte.

The best defensive club teams in Europe last season were Juventus who had Chiellini and Barzagli, and Athletico who had Godin.

English football has this ridiculous habit of trying so hard to replicate the success of European football, that it is forgetting what allowed us to compete with them. Sometimes you need a Carragher to just stick the boot in and deliberately follow through. All the best teams win trophies consistently with a pure defender. Real Madrid have gone to pieces without Pepe at the back. Varane and Ramos are better players on paper, but they don't defend with as much passion or intelligence and that has made Real Madrid soft.

We will never know if some of our more pure defenders in the Championship would've been good enough, because everybody is too focused on the ball playing centre back (who got caught out of position and rushed back to make a highlight reel sliding tackle) . Nobody cares about the guy who just stayed in position and made a solid tackle without going to ground. It's not exciting.

06 Dec 2017 13:56:41
ED2 do you still think Liverpool vastly overpaid for Firmino? Not starting beef, just curious.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool paid €16M more than his release clause which no one else would pay. You do the math.}

06 Dec 2017 14:05:30
Didn't know that ED2 which is why I asked, I only knew you said they overpaid.

{Ed002's Note - so there we go.}

06 Dec 2017 14:14:20
we overpayed but thankfully for us he's been a success. Mane and Salah seemed a lot of money at the time but again it's worked out for us. On the flip side we have markivic who cost a bundle and was never really used the same seems to be happening with Robertson, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

06 Dec 2017 15:05:49
Gibson may be a leader but he is definitely a poor defender.
Forget watching him in the championship he was rubbish in the premier league- always out of position, following the ball not anticipating and often beaten in the air.

He has found his level and is not a premier league defender AT ALL.

06 Dec 2017 15:44:49
Hey Ron. Completely disagree that he was always out of position and lacking anticipation. I won't argue that he loses a lot of aerial duels though. It's one of his blind spots. Though it's worth nothing the man he marks rarely scores because he does enough to make the header difficult for them.

I don't think he is a great individual, but he does get the best out of those around him. The main risk would be that Middlesbrough play a deep and narrow defence. Therefore he is rarely isolated against an attacker. It's impossible to know how he'd cope with being isolated in a team playing more expansively. He'd either sink or float.

06 Dec 2017 17:41:43
Every time I watched him I thought his positioning was awful.
IMO he'd sink like a concrete elephant. At very best he's a big big risk which automatically rules him out for me.

We need confident and competent defenders to improve IMO.

06 Dec 2017 18:30:12
Shawcross is an example of what people would call and English’s defender, clumsy, not intelligent enough to make up for his lack of positional sense, even lovren can be quite physical. I think it’s players for systems but there is no denying that the more continental style is the more successful system, having a dog at the back works if you have players around then to do the fancy work. I think it’s more about the partnership than one being dogged, Pepe was class with Ramos a great partnership, would Pepe and matip work even half as good? Puyol and pique, one of each but puyol had a good brain on him, partnership worked great, but it’s finding the right partnership. People forget that def lender need ton have a brain too, the amount of concentration it take so to be positionally aware and prepared for 90 minutes is a lot, something our defenders lack. A hard dogged defender would only work well if we had that comfortable player who can step out and rely on the other player being able to cover him/ sweep up. Has anybody seen enough of Masterson to give a real non biased opinion because sadly I haven’t for the past few months and so can’t really say, does he have a future here or another jay spearing?

06 Dec 2017 18:34:07
If we do sign someone in Jan then I hope we don’t write them off if they have an initial shocker especially if he is bought in from abroad, look at Vidic as an example struggled a bit initially but had the right mentality to succeed in the long term. Nowadays your written off after 2 bad games but whoever we bring in may need some time to adjust to the demands of the league.

06 Dec 2017 10:50:36
So I was thinking. Dangerous I know.
How about we do a charity football match.
Eds vs posters? I know a few eds are getting on so I'll go in goal for them 😂
We could raise funds for via sponsorship and match fees from the people playing. Would take a lot of work getting all eds together, but it could be bigger than a wc final.
Thoughts?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The Eds live in various different countries Benny.}

06 Dec 2017 11:04:08
I know ed001 is in abu, but is back at some point next year. We also have one or two in Scotland, an obviously yourself being all over. Nothing's worth doing if it's easy.
We could raise some serious money for the eds chosen charity. I know I'd pay £100+ to leave one on ed025 ( just kidding 025) 👀😂
Maybe some sort of 6 a side tournament if short on numbers.
Could all be live streamed on the site :)

{Ed002's Note - I am very, very old Benny and certainly not able to run around.}

06 Dec 2017 11:14:37
we could always have a certain number of posters/ players willing to play, the ed001 manages team 1, ed002 manages team 2?

06 Dec 2017 11:21:19
Benny that's sound idea la!

06 Dec 2017 11:27:39
Ha ha, doubt it will happen but it would be great. Imagine if a poster was heavily critising a player and we could respond with "I've seen you play, your 2nd touch is a tackle! "

06 Dec 2017 11:33:22
First give them some time to reduce their beer bellies!

06 Dec 2017 11:37:29
Scarry I like that idea. Ed001 and ed002 manage each team from their homes.
We can do a draft and they pick a poster each, in turn.
Then formation and starting line ups. For a bit of spice, Losing manager matches the players contribution ;)
If okay eds, I'll get a roster going by putting my email here.
Benjaminallen1991@hotmail. co. uk
Anyone interested, could email me their name, age, position followed by one strength and one weakness 😂
I'll compile a list and then the two eds can pick! I'd be thinking it take place in the midlands, sort of neautral for every one.

06 Dec 2017 12:00:55
Im up for it. Like my name sake just chuck me in defence!

06 Dec 2017 12:16:52
Name: Adam MK
Age: 23, but turning 65 in January
Position: Left back (in the changing room)
Strength: Good personality (kind of)
Weakness: My only strength is a lie.

06 Dec 2017 12:37:14
What a massive response in my email account, that is great!
I've started saving everyone's details, I will have to say a cut off point to the first 50 players, then I'll pass on everyone to ed001 on Skype, and two teams of 15 will be selected by the ed managers.
I was thinking £35 per player, so we would raise over a thousand pounds for the ed charities.
This is really happening, so get your entries in quickly and don't miss out.
Only thing left is for 002 and 001 to pick a team for their squads 😂.

06 Dec 2017 12:39:54
Have added you to the list MK. I do suggest emailing me though so we don't fill up the banter page, also easier to get in touch about date, venue etc.

06 Dec 2017 13:18:26
Great idea! I’ve emailed you. I’m going as I want to meet Harry! Now. who’s organising the Xmas party?

06 Dec 2017 13:26:42
Any idea on timing Benny? I don’t live in the uk anymore but am back a couple of times a year.

06 Dec 2017 14:06:10
I'm literally about o emigrate to Australia next month, any chance we can do it next week haha.

06 Dec 2017 14:19:49
Summer 2018 mate.

06 Dec 2017 15:02:41
will there be live tv coverage? so we comment live here from other countries;)

06 Dec 2017 15:22:52
With ed007s know how and a fair few months to prepare. I'm hoping to video the game live here.

06 Dec 2017 15:46:01
FIFA might not let us next summer. It could affect the viewing figures for the WC.

06 Dec 2017 15:48:15
Can we have a pre game live chat as well, also if someone makes a mistake, we can say how crap they are and they should be sold! I'm back September 2018 in case a replay is needed.

06 Dec 2017 16:41:11
All in? How many posters are signed up these days.

I think we should go with the classic

655-1700-900 formation.

06 Dec 2017 17:46:32
😂 "Carnage"

There'll be some hefty tackles going in.

We should apply to join CONIFA 👍.

{Ed002's Note - Repost it then and I will explain what his agent said last week.}
