Eds i have just read about a possibility of a world cup reject tournament . please tell me this is just rubbish!

billynwa

{Ed002's Note - I assume this is the US Soccer/MLS idea back again. It could well be possible but clubs will be against releasing players to an unendorsed competition (and that is the real problem) which means that National sides would need to look to youngsters, old, fringe players and that will not suit them. It has been suggested several times in the past by various nations but never goes anywhere.}

1.) 15 Nov 2017 14:04:11
I think it would be a decent idea myself. Who doesn't want to watch semi finals of Lichtenstein vs San Marino and Jamaica vs Andorra?

We all want to see world class players on display. As long as Scotland and ROI aren't involved it'll still be a great spectacle 😉.

2.) 15 Nov 2017 14:28:27
I can just imagine it is 15 years time:
"hey Andy! Remember the great clash of 2022 in the reject world cup final between Estonia and New Zealand"
"ahhh yes i do Keith! That battle between Ragnar Klavan and Winston Reid was a thing of beauty"

3.) 15 Nov 2017 23:43:47
The only way it would be interesting if it was like the Europa league where a place in next World Cup was up for grabs.

4.) 16 Nov 2017 08:29:19
Still too soon mk 😢.

As its ask ed001 question day i have one for you. in regards to micheal johnson of man city. I know he had a tough time with imjurys but what ever happned to him. Was there other things that stopped him reaching his potential or was it just injurys. did you rate him by the way?

billynwa

{Ed001's Note - he had a few mental problems mate. The injuries didn't help. He was never able to focus on the game properly and work at it. Actually mentality problems is a better way to word it. He was a great young player, but he never had that drive or desire you need.}

Edd001 your opinion on the ref last night? . i thought he was just terrible. Im talking for both sides btw!

billynwa

{Ed001's Note - he was very poor, made a lot of mistakes. He could not figure out advantages, indicated he was playing the advantage at one point, then we lost the ball, while he still had his arms up indicating the advantage, yet he never pulled it back for the foul. Then he decided he wouldn't play advantage because there actually was one later. And that was just two incidents. I am not sure if he got a single call right all night.}

1.) 16 Aug 2017 11:25:28
I often find refs get undeserved stick. is it really there fault that players are diving all over the place, but last night was embarressing to say the least! So inconsistant.

2.) 16 Aug 2017 12:22:06
Ed, he was abysmal. Even the penalty, he was not going to give it as he was not even sure. It was the "goal post" assistant who told him it was. He was useless all game. In other countries, he would be investigated for match fixing as he did all he could to help Hoff win the game. Credit to our boys for having the bottle to rise above his nonsense.

3.) 16 Aug 2017 14:16:37
Have to agree that the ref didn't have his best game last night. However, disagree that he favoured Hoffenheim, that is just nonsense in my opinion, he was poor but consistently poor in general.

There is differences though in the way referees tend to allow the game to flow, I think more UK based referees tend to let the game flow more than some other European refs.

I never quite understood how the referees are not 100% professional where it is their only job and they are paid sufficiently well to make a good living from it. Some refs are paid a pittance and they fit it around their day job when the reality of it is it is the hardest job on the park and scrutinised from everyone. How many of us would make mistakes in their position? I know I would likely make plenty if I tried it. and get abused from all angles.

1.) 07 Aug 2017 00:51:00
It's like a one off Mls league but yeah. It was a rocket. One of my favorite non red players.

2.) 07 Aug 2017 01:36:36
He doesn't play in the MLS.

3.) 07 Aug 2017 02:09:15
Not as good as Djimi Traore in MLS 😎.

4.) 07 Aug 2017 17:14:14
Dunno. But watched the Timbers v Galaxy game today. MLS trialling video assisted refereeing is VERY interesting. Galaxy had a goal ruled out for handball during a corner which literally no one spotted. It really works! But more interesting was the timbers not getting a review for a penalty due to the ref's opinion that his decision wasn't wrong. So there are still grey areas and debates post match. The VLR won't stop biased fans arguing.

Ed001 i enjoyed what adam had to say. What are your opinions on what was said about the deffencive induviduals?

billynwa

{Ed001's Note - I thought he was a little harsh on Karius, he did not make as many mistakes as he suggested, it was his dalliances on the ball that caused all the moaning rather than errors in holding onto the ball. There were errors holding onto the ball, but they were certainly not every game. The problem was his getting caught dwelling on the ball was happening often enough for it to be a major worry. Then you add in a couple of errors in handling in one game and the media spotlighting it, as Liverpool were in excellent form at the time and they love the chance to drag anything good down.

He was a victim more of perception caused by the media, as it was far too early to judge him. The problem is that the media has a lot of power, how they analyse things on MOTD or Sly Spurts affects the vast majority of views. A good example is Fraser Forster, for years I have been saying he has a problem with his footwork and he is an awful keeper, but most people would tell me I haven't a clue. And I do mean years as Ed007 will tell you I was saying it when he initially went to Celtic all those years ago. Only this season have people agreed me about him, purely because the media have noticed it and begun to highlight it on their analysis of matches.

Other than that small point, and it is very small, I feel he was similar in thinking to myself. Though I would probably be a little more harsh on Gomez, like MKS though I feel it is inexperience and would not swap him out. In fact I would prefer him to be making these mistakes now so that he can learn from them. If Lovren was a similar age, I would have no issue with his inconsistencies, in fact I would be glad to see him making the mistakes now, so that he can learn and not end up being this inconsistent when older. Sadly Lovren has obviously been protected as a defender when younger and not had the chance to develop and learn from them.}
