Hi ed02

Any interest in Fabian Ruiz from Liverpool?

{Ed002's Note - Fabian Ruiz (CM/DM) is seen by Real Madrid as a replacement for Kroos and/or Modric but is not first choice but they could still turn to him and are keeping their interest known to Napoli - and crucially Real Madrid have a player Napoli want who could be part of a trade. There have been discussions with his agent with Manchester City who see him as one of several options to the long-term replacement of Fernandinho. There have also been discussions with Bayern Munich but they are ideally after a DM and AM and although Ruiz often plays an DM role his value is as a CM player. Napoli have also met and spoken with Barcelona seen as a replacement for Arturo Vidal and/or Ivan Rakitic as they try and rebuild - but also wanted by Real Madrid and price will be an issue without sales or exchanges.Napoli will demand a very significant fee - somewhere in the region of €90M to €100M which would rule out Bayern Munich and probably Manchester City. I am not aware of any approach to his agent or Napoli by Liverpool.

1.) 22 Mar 2020 21:45:23
I thought Rodri was Fernandinho's long term replacement?

{Ed002's Note - They never replaced Yaya Toure directly.}

2.) 23 Mar 2020 11:30:01
Ya ya ya ya ya ya
Ya ya ya ya ya ya toure
kolo kolo kolo.

Hi eds

Have we rejected a bid from Roma for Shaqiri?

{Ed002's Note - Not as far as I know - they have asked for a loan taht is all.}

1.) 14 Jan 2020 17:38:16
We should lend him for free if he's up for it. Still feel guilty about taking Mo and Ali off them.

I get over it very quickly though.

2.) 14 Jan 2020 18:33:37
Shouldn't loan him out full stop. he's part of the squad that's going for the league title. he's needed.

3.) 14 Jan 2020 21:46:41
Completely agree maybe at the end of the season we can review but we shouldn’t be weakening our squad midway through!

4.) 14 Jan 2020 23:57:24
Absolutely no need to disrupt and weaken our squad mid season, his valuation won't differ realistically in the summer if we decide to move him on. All it takes is for one of our front 3 to get a bad injury and we'd be left with only minamino and origi as options for every league and european game. Shaq can still offer us creative spark in certain games.

5.) 15 Jan 2020 10:15:21
If it’s a sale I could see why we might consider it (assuming it’s for a meaningful figure) with Minamino coming in and Origi in good form, and we also have Ox able to play on the wing etc. but for a loan It just wouldn’t make sense IMO as would weaken the squad without any meaningful financial upside.

28 Sep 2019 09:11:02
It's Pedro Chirivela not Sepp sorry.

1.) 28 Sep 2019 10:36:20
What on earth possessed us to field Chirivella without making sure his paperwork was in order?

Did we not know about it or did we just not bother? Is Rick Parry back running our club's admin department or something?

2.) 28 Sep 2019 17:56:00
I also don’t know from a football perspective why we bought him on and not Kane, Chirivella should of left the club in the summer and not releasing him will block opportunities for others.

Lewis could of been given an opportunity in midfield base.

3.) 28 Sep 2019 20:01:46
There were offers for Chirivella. He declined to leave.

4.) 29 Sep 2019 01:08:04
I’ve heard it has been triggered.

5.) 29 Sep 2019 13:22:11
"Should have" and "could have" Southern Red, just saying.

24 Apr 2019 17:39:47
Saw a lot of rumours that Van Dijk has won PFA player of the season and that it will be announced tomorrow.

1.) 24 Apr 2019 17:57:56
Had it won by Xmas really didn't he! impeccable.

2.) 24 Apr 2019 18:12:18
I just read the same.

3.) 24 Apr 2019 23:07:37
He won it by a country mile .
what a player .

03 Apr 2019 11:29:22
Hi ed001

Hope you are well. Any idea if negotiations have started regarding a new contract for Gini?

{Ed001's Note - no, but I do expect him to get a new one.}

1.) 03 Apr 2019 11:55:23
Do you think he's been a good buy ed since we've had him?
Seems to of stepped up a bit this year.

{Ed001's Note - yes, he has proven himself to be a key player this season.}

2.) 03 Apr 2019 13:38:41
Looks like buying Keita for a vast sum has brought Gini to life. Needs more goals though, our midfield feels very light in that respect!

3.) 03 Apr 2019 19:58:40
I agree, if we play two go Hendo Gini or Fabinho, there’s no reason why the others can’t be More attacking, at least a ‘fill the box’ type of cm.

Hi ed01

Do you think Ryan Babel could have been world class if he worked hard enough?

{Ed001's Note - no, he was never that good.}

1.) 22 Mar 2020 11:42:33
Who do you think could of gone on to be better than what they was Ed?
I think Sturridge. I think he was willing to work through his knocks and battle a bit more on the pitch he could of been absolutely class.

{Ed001's Note - Rob Jones is the standout in this area. He had the potential to be the best right-back ever to play the game.}

2.) 22 Mar 2020 13:08:45
Mommo Sissoko for me. Not his fault of course but what a player I thought he was.

3.) 22 Mar 2020 14:28:23
Thanks ed01

On that note (not Liverpool related ( but I believe if the Brazilian pair Ronaldo and Ronaldinho worked harder and had better attitudes and in the case of the former, better luck with injuries, the sky would have been the limit. 2 of the most naturally talented players I have ever seen.

{Ed001's Note - very true. Ronaldo, in particular, was incredible in terms of effect as well as ability. One of those players who took the breath away.}

4.) 22 Mar 2020 17:26:00
Loved the pair of them and both would be in my ultimate 11. Was talking about them with my mate yesterday and I think that care free attitude was what made them the players they were. Had they knuckled down and trained their socks off they wouldn't have tried the things they did and been the players we loved to watch. They were definitely here for a good time not a long time!

15 Mar 2020 17:46:21
In my opinion I doubt any of the teams will object to handing Liverpool the title.

If no title is awarded it doesn't really benefit anyone but if a precedent is set then opposing teams will know if something like this happens again and they are in a similar boat they will be protected.

{Ed002's Note - If you want a precedent it has already been set and it was not awarded. As I have said, there are three, perhaps four teams, that will either vote no or abstain if it comes down to that happening.}

1.) 15 Mar 2020 18:44:11
Thanks for the reply ed02. If I may ask who are the 3/ 4 teams.

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant and we are not going to discuss it.}

2.) 15 Mar 2020 20:21:37
I think it’s pretty obvious which clubs would vote against Liverpool being handed the title.

Given the toxic relationships the clubs have, I think it’s crazy that a vote goes out to the clubs.

The decision needs to be made from either the premier league or the fa etc.

3.) 15 Mar 2020 21:19:22
If I were utd I wouldn't want to come across as petty. Obviously Liverpool will win the league. I think our massive lead should play a part. I know that sounds biased, and I probably am. But one win (potentially) from the title has to mean something. It'd be so unfair.

4.) 16 Mar 2020 11:40:21
Banter is one thing but if it was utd in the same situation, they'd get my vote, a team who has dominated like we have this season deserves it and that's as simple as it gets. If utd had done the same then I'd be saying the same thing, they deserve it.

Luckily they aren't at our level lol but what's right is right. Pointless discussion though because no matter what, that trophy is ours this year. There's no way on earth that we'll lose out on it.

5.) 16 Mar 2020 13:25:41
I would think that the teams who may vote against or abstain are the ones we've messed around off the field over the last few years. Man city, Southampton etc. I really can't see someone voting against the idea just based on a rivalry.

6.) 16 Mar 2020 13:32:50
I’m pretty sure teams wouldn’t vote to stop us winning. Clubs don't care about such things. They would vote to stop themselves ending up where they currently are in the table.

7.) 16 Mar 2020 13:25:41
I would think that the teams who may vote against or abstain are the ones we've messed around off the field over the last few years. Man city, Southampton etc. I really can't see someone voting against the idea just based on a rivalry.

10 Mar 2020 06:04:49
Wrecked my brain on this one but after a whole day of thinking I can't come up with any other names:

Players who have won all 6 (Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup)

Christiano Ronaldo and. JAMES MILNER! What an achievement!

1.) 10 Mar 2020 08:38:45
I wrecked my brain with drink and drugs.

2.) 10 Mar 2020 13:23:50
I think both Rooney and Giggs are in that list as well.
But still a grate achievement .

3.) 10 Mar 2020 19:27:34

4.) 10 Mar 2020 21:18:11
Man Utd haven't won the Super Cup since 1991, so only Giggs has that honour. Shrek only won the 5 different trophies, not the 6th.

06 Mar 2020 13:26:11
Naby Keita's brother has sadly passed away in an accident.

1.) 06 Mar 2020 13:57:05
Tragic news. Thoughts go out to Naby, his family and the families of the others who lost their lives and have been injured.

2.) 06 Mar 2020 15:18:24
Jesus. Poor guy. All my sympathies.

3.) 06 Mar 2020 16:21:16
Apparently his cousin rather than brother, but still horrible news.

4.) 06 Mar 2020 16:22:30
Was it not his cousin?

5.) 06 Mar 2020 16:22:22
No he hasn’t.

6.) 06 Mar 2020 16:30:16
A further report a couple of hours after, states that his cousin is not amongst the fatalities as initially reported, but is in hospital.

7.) 06 Mar 2020 17:08:02
He did not die, he was in the accident but survived.

8.) 06 Mar 2020 17:20:44
Being reported now that he survived.

9.) 07 Mar 2020 09:41:47
He survived. Brilliant news.

10.) 07 Mar 2020 10:35:48
It went from his brothers dead, to his cousin is in hospital. Next it’ll change to his Nan is in Aldi. Hate the press.

11.) 07 Mar 2020 10:43:02
Glad to hear RM.

18 Feb 2020 08:33:22
Hi Ed01

Do you think Trent is as close of a player England have had since Beckham?

{Ed001's Note - close of a player to what? If you are talking about world class, Beckham, I am not convinced he ever was. Excellent player and had a wonderful work ethic, but he was not world class. He didn't have the footballing intelligence, he was too busy running around to actually position himself correctly, especially in an England shirt. That game against Greece that he is considered a hero for scoring in, well the Greek goals came about because he was out of position trying to be a hero. Greece would never have scored if he had been anywhere near the right flank. They made use of the acres of empty space he left.

However, to compare Trent to him, yet, is wrong. Trent is a fantastic player and has been playing at a level that puts him just above Beckham level this season, but Beckham played at the level pretty much throughout his entire career. Trent is just starting out and has to do it season in and season out. Beckham's dedication was admirable, that was why his deadballs got better and better as his career went on. Trent needs to do the same and work on setpiece delivery, as he is not yet on Beckham's level there.}

1.) 18 Feb 2020 10:38:51
Cracking reply Ed
I personally myself never saw beckham as world class just a very good player but world class no
Just like for me Keane was not world class or Fabregas or ince
World class seedorf iniesta xavi zidane figo all truly world class players.

{Ed001's Note - unfortunately, anyone English gets ridiculously overhyped.}

2.) 18 Feb 2020 10:48:05
Which English players in the past 20 years would you say are World Class, Ed?

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head I can only think of Gerrard, Scholes and Lampard that I could make a case for.}

3.) 18 Feb 2020 11:52:18
As much as i think the guy is an twit. Rooney was incredible at club level between 2005-2010.

{Ed001's Note - never world class though. When you look at who played in his position, so that is who he has to be compared to, Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo etc, there is no way you can say he is that level.}

4.) 18 Feb 2020 12:19:07
Ashley Cole in with a shout to be considered world class surely? One of the best left backs of his generation.

{Ed001's Note - good shout. I would agree on him, I just never thought of him.}

5.) 18 Feb 2020 12:22:43
Other than the trio ed001 named, I'd argue Ashley Cole was a top class fullback, arguably one of the best during that period of time.

{Ed001's Note - can't argue with that at all.}

6.) 18 Feb 2020 12:47:40
Joe cole was on par with messi when we signed him so he has to be considered would class.

7.) 18 Feb 2020 12:52:29
Roy Keane was absolutely world class, definitely for United and 100% for Ireland. You don't have to have the touch of Zidane to be World class.

8.) 18 Feb 2020 12:59:22
Very close Wolverine_Red, on par with Messis sister I think you ment to say.

9.) 18 Feb 2020 13:19:16
Hate to say it but Rooney was world class. Gazza of course but not in last 20 years. Terry was a world class cb.

10.) 18 Feb 2020 13:28:27
Agree johnzandt. Phenomenal player.

11.) 18 Feb 2020 13:35:18
I’d argue Ferdinand and Terry were very close to world class, though not for England. Both had weakness that meant they were never the level of the likes of Puyol, Stam and Nesta, but they were without doubt in the conversation.

12.) 18 Feb 2020 13:55:15
how about rio ferdinand? world class CB?

{Ed001's Note - good shout, him and Terry who someone else mentioned. If Terry had pace he would have been defo world class. As it was it is arguable but he deserves to be in the discussion at least.}

13.) 18 Feb 2020 14:41:21
Never really got the 'Gazza' was world class argument. He had one good season in 1991, but he didn't run the game for any length of time.

14.) 18 Feb 2020 14:44:25
Sorry but I’m not having Roy Keane was world class no way at all.

15.) 18 Feb 2020 16:35:46
Shearer, or am I showing my age🤔.

16.) 18 Feb 2020 17:23:36
John Barnes was world class.

17.) 18 Feb 2020 18:13:00
Personally I think the word world class gets thrown about too much. For example if say Pele, Maradona, Messi and Ronaldo x 2 were world class then all the other players we mention as world class would technically be the same level as them. For me I look at a lot of players who are extremely good footballers and say they have world class attributes. Ie Beckham wasn’t world class but was a world class crosser of the ball. Shearer and Kane weren’t and aren’t world class footballers but both could be argued as world class finishers. Same as our very own Rushy. Does that make sense. That’s just my 2 pence worth though.

18.) 18 Feb 2020 18:58:28
Ledley King would have been world class, absolute travesty his injuries.

19.) 18 Feb 2020 23:46:05
Johnzant, you don't think Paul Gascoigne was world class?!?! Good god, he's the best player this country has produced for a very long time. Was the best player in the world at one point. Ergo World class. I understand people debating Terry or Beckham but not gazza. He was undoubtedly world class.

20.) 19 Feb 2020 01:59:12
For me I'd label a player as world class if sustained a level of performance for numerous years where he was regarded as being in the top 3 or 4 in his position and being capable of walking into every clubs starting 11. For me Terry, cole, Gerrard, lampard, scholes and Rooney could have done that for many years. Others like Ferdinand, Beckham and Owen I felt could have only been capable of this for a couple of seasons in their prime.
Then the likes of Gascoigne, Fowler, ledley king I think all had the capabilities but never could sustain a regular level of performance for long enough to warrant that tag.

In this current group of English players you could argue that Kane, sterling possibly sancho might go on to prove that they can be good enough to start for any club in the world but right now Trent is the one Englishman who is best in his position I think or at least definately in top 3 while Maguire, sancho, rashford, alli for examples of highest regarded starting English talent currently haven't shown they can perform at the levels as many others in their positions over a period. Sterling and Kane the closest yet I would rank lewandowski, mbappe, aguero, Messi, Ronaldo, Salah, mane, son as superior attackers.

Mellisa Reddy is very reliable. If she told me my wife was cheating on me, I would file for dirvore based on that alone.

I believe it is the 2021 edition which they plan to give participants £50 mil. This year's edition is considerably less however champions of the world sounds very appealing and the prize money should stil be more than Caraboa Cup for a fraction of the amount of games.

Seen these rumours and while I hope he stays I wouldn't hold it against him if he would want to leave. Great back up and we might struggle to find a better back up centre back who is comfortable playing in a defence with a high line.

Ed do you know if he is looking to leave?

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know.)

When I have seen Wilson he has been on the right wing but I haven't watched him regularly so you might be right about him playing on the left.

Regarding Kent I feel his future lies elsewhere.

{Ed001's Note - they both can play either flank, though you may be right about Kent.}

I believe she (Mellisa Reddy) was 1 of the journalists Klopp briefed about his interest in Van Dijk, Brandt, Keita and Sessegnon in 2017.Am I correct?

If Leeds get promoted a full Premier League season under Bielsa would be great for Curtis Jones I feel.
