Question regarding Veiga,
I haven't seen him so wondering if anybody can give me a rundown on his style.
I wouldn't have thought using a large chunk of a small budget would be best spent on players that are going to block the growth of Elliot and Jones and judging on his stats he seems like a goalscorer?
Any ideas what the plan might look like Ed02?
Thanks all.

Easypeasysqueezy

{Ed002's Note - He looks like Mac Allister to me.}

1.) 15 Jun 2023 20:15:13
But does he have the same contagious laugh Ed?

2.) 15 Jun 2023 20:50:51
Yes jay. The exact same.

3.) 15 Jun 2023 20:56:20
I thought he was dark haired compared to Mac allister ?.

4.) 15 Jun 2023 21:32:29
Quite happy with MacA, Badger and Veiga as the midfield ?.

5.) 15 Jun 2023 21:41:24
He seems to have been playing further forward this season, predominantly on the right hand side - where Hendo/ Elliott play for us.

He's very press resistant, like to receive the ball on the turn, likes to carry the ball long distances and is pretty good with his final ball and finishing. He's probably still physically developing but he is over 6ft already and has a pair of lungs on him. I would say he's a bit more like Sobozalai if I was to compare him to someone. He's very raw.

6.) 16 Jun 2023 07:41:43
Thanks all.

7.) 16 Jun 2023 07:51:13
Block the development of Jones and Elliot? We need winners and world class talent. Unfortunately the aforementioned two are not that and have a long way to go.

8.) 16 Jun 2023 02:18:52
Does liverpool still interested on Mikel Merino eds? You've said that LFC was interested on him on midfield and a transfer on last january is unlikely.

{Ed002's Note - The player has no interest in playing in the PL again after refusing a move to another side.}

Shocked that not more of being made of the tackle on Diaz. That's as clear a pen as the handball for me.

Easypeasysqueezy

1.) 22 Oct 2023 11:46:03
Clear contact, but thought it’d have been soft to award it. Ok non-call for me.

2.) 22 Oct 2023 12:07:42
OP, Im okay with the non call like Faith, as well tbh. I thought it was just the momentum of the Everton defender that blacked Diaz from coming back for the ball. Also, not sure Diaz would have reached the ball anyway due to how his momentum took him that far away from it.

3.) 22 Oct 2023 13:01:37
The ball doesn’t need to be at you feet to be given as a penalty.

4.) 22 Oct 2023 14:21:16
@IR, but that's not my point. Nobody can control their momentum in that situation whether it be the Everton player or Diaz (esp. with both players not being on their feet in that position) hence, incidental contact hence, no pen, IMO.

5.) 22 Oct 2023 14:31:10
The defender is responsible for his own actions, momentum or otherwise. It just goes to show that if you don't fall theatrically, then it's not given. It's a pen all day. There is far more contact there than the konate incident which people are suggesting is not just a foul, but a yellow. Puts it into perspective really given one is in front of goal n the other 70 yes away.

6.) 22 Oct 2023 15:11:40
Come on Oli that’s a clear penalty. If the attacker checks back and gets wiped out by the defender who gets all man and no ball it’s a foul no matter how it happens.

With that logic you could say Konate didn’t foul Beto as Beto didn’t have the ball and he was just running across him.

I think the question has to be had Diaz not been wiped out could he have got to the ball and the answer is a resounding yes. So it’s a foul and a penalty and I can’t believe VAR didn’t give it. Actually I can believe it because they are crap.

{Ed025's Note - if that pen was given against the Reds BP there would be hell to pay, he was shepherded out mate and the decision was totally correct imo..

7.) 22 Oct 2023 16:05:11
It wasn't a penalty for me. I thought it would have been extremely harsh if it was given.

8.) 22 Oct 2023 15:35:39
Just seen a video ed where his knee takes him out. its not diaz job to get outa the way. after seen this angle if it was given against us id hav had no complaints.

{Ed025's Note - if things like that get given every week Jude then we are in trouble mate, contrary to some ideas it is still a contact sport and we dont really want 20 penalties each game now do we..

9.) 22 Oct 2023 19:53:32
Ed, I'll go against you on this one. I think if Diaz throws his legs up in the air on contact, noone questions a pen being given. We see them given all the time. He doesn't play the ball but plays the man.
I'd like to see them not given, but they are and that's my issue. Why not on this occasion, but then he didn't give a blatant handball without var, where was he looking to not see that one? Similar with the chelsea pen. We see so many harsh ones, but arms so far away from body is a pen nowadays, both were so obvious 1st time viewing, it makes you wonder if var is creating more issues than it solves.

{Ed025's Note - the ref was a joke yesterday SS and how he did not give the Keane one immediately is beyond me, the Diaz one was the correct one for me mate and he should be in line for an oscar with that performance of being hurt, but its the way the game is now with players trying to con the officials all the time..

10.) 22 Oct 2023 20:36:46
Agree @Ed025. - it’s a contact sport and sometimes go wrong - humans make mistakes and accidents happen. The rules and directives are trying to weed out human error, it seems, which would / will considerably reduce the game as a form of entertainment. Obviously nobody wants to see deliberate foul play but deliberate foul play is a very rare occurrence.

11.) 23 Oct 2023 00:57:00
Shepherded out Ed? Come on mate it was a foul, Diaz checked back and he took him out. You see those types of fouls all of the time it was a clear penalty. Got none of the ball and all of the man.

I’m all for not giving soft penalties but anywhere else on the pitch that is 100% a foul so it should be in the box too.

I don’t even know why anyone would say it’s not a foul.

{Ed025's Note - im still saying it was momentum BP and would have been a very soft penalty mate, there is a trend in football now where every incident is scrutinized and supporters want penalties and free kicks for even the slightest touch, let the game flow ffs and stop these tutu wearing ballerina,s falling over and rolling around like they have been shot after every challenge i say..

12.) 23 Oct 2023 18:53:55
I get that Ed and wasn’t shouting too loudly when it wasn’t given. Sometimes you get them sometimes you don’t, it’s football. For me it should’ve been a pen but I can accept not getting it.

Just like the Konate incident. Sometimes you might get booked for that, sometimes you don’t but the way it’s been dramatised afterwards is just ridiculous. Tarkowski did a similar tackle on Jota and didn’t get booked either.

This trial by SkySports on every decision has to stop. It’s just not helping the game.
This.

{Ed025's Note - its certainly not BP, all the after match talk seems to be about the referee or VAR nowadays, years ago it was always about the goals, the players and the great passes and tackles mate, its gone downhill since sky took over even though i do enjoy the televised matches..

After reviewing the Kovacic challenge in the Arsenal-Man City game, the PGMOL and the FA have decided to issue Liverpool a £200,000 fine and banned Szoboszlai for 3 games.

Also ali and mo for being good players.

2.) 11 Oct 2023 06:06:48
Can anyone tell me as to why the brighton player who conceded the penalty on sunday was not sent off let alone even cautioned double jepordy didn't even count aa that only comes into play for a half decent attempt at playing the ball or trying to Michael Oliver is out on his own now for me as the best referee in the league Anthony Taylor blotted his copy book for me for failing to dismiss kovaceic for a 2nd yellow cars he could have been sent off for a straight red the 1st time?

3.) 11 Oct 2023 07:55:59
Coz they felt like it ?.

4.) 11 Oct 2023 19:01:16
Rbh, you can find their response online. Some of the absolute worst explanations you will ever read. Like they tell themselves, "Well done! Good process, lads".

1.) 03 Oct 2023 08:50:47
It's not just us though. VAR and the standard of refereeing affects everyone. There were incidents in the Forest v Brentford game less than 24 hours later.

22 Sep 2023 14:46:58
Heading up to Anfield for the first time for a Leicester game chaps, heading up with my brother, father and son. None of us have been before so we're all like children on Christmas. can't wait. I'd expect to see a similar team to yesterday's match play then, which I'm totally fine with. can't wait to see the mighty reds up close.

Easypeasysqueezy

1.) 22 Sep 2023 15:07:32
OP, enjoy the game, man. Always evious of those who can go to Anfield and watch the club they have supported all their lives play. Hopefully, that will be me someday.

2.) 22 Sep 2023 16:03:10
Don’t give up Oli, a local travel agent had ‘deals’ at £150 per ticket and my dads feeling flush as he’s had a pension through ?.
Cheers mate. I’m sure you’ll get there.

3.) 22 Sep 2023 17:35:50
Enjoy yourselves I have had to give up my European games as my autistic son is too much for my wife to deal with on her own now. It had been hard for the last 2 season missing games that I had tickets for. I had great times over the past 6 seasons or so even got lucky in the draw and got a ticket for the final in Keiv.

4.) 22 Sep 2023 17:48:35
Easypeasysqueezy, big up to your local travel agent, man. I think I just got to get in there and do the work and try and get it done. I got very young kids so they are priority for now. definitely on the bucket list. Even my wife is on board, can you believe that?

5.) 22 Sep 2023 19:49:27
I was supposed to be going to the West ham game on Sunday, would have been my first time ever at anfield, my dad (a bluenose) was trying to get tickets through an old friend for my 40th, but it all fell through at the start of the week. My dad is just going to bite the bullet and get hospitality tickets for a game in the new year, so at least I won't have to wait too long!

6.) 22 Sep 2023 19:56:11
Sorry to hear that Grino, but family has to come first.
Kudos for doing the right thing.

7.) 22 Sep 2023 22:57:00
I visited Liverpool for a week in July, by luck I found the hotel I was staying in had 8 tickets for every home game. I enquired about the Utd game in December and they had 6 tickets left. I sent out a text to a few mates and within 10 mins, I had the deposit down. Cost a fortune for a 2 night deal but I'll probably never get the chance to get to Anfield for that fixture again.

Haven't been to a game since Burnley in 2019, this was literally just down to luck and being in the right place at the right time.

8.) 23 Sep 2023 11:34:48
Nice Christmas present for yourself Robbo ?.

23 Aug 2023 18:13:12
Not sure I've ever seen such universal negativity on here if I'm honest.
To a point I do get it, but it still seems a bit hyperbolic.
I honestly see us as stronger than we started last season. We're stronger up front, we're stronger in midfield ( albeit less bodies) and the defence remains unchanged.
Is it perfect? No.
Have we improved? I would argue yes.

Easypeasysqueezy

1.) 23 Aug 2023 18:49:05
I agree @Easy.

2.) 23 Aug 2023 18:58:02
There's hyperbole negativity for sure.

But there's also disappointed people who think we are only a few quality additions from challenging. We have not replaced Fabinho properly and we have not added a much need CB. Do that and we're title challengers.

And be honest with yourselves. There are also those on this site who will be cheery and positive no matter what happens. I'm perfectly fine with it. It's cheers the place up but I think it's perfectly fine to have a little bit of negativity about how this transfer window is going. And if we sign no more quality players after letting Fabinho and Henderson go then the negativity is very very well deserved.

3.) 23 Aug 2023 19:03:53
I think that’s where a lot of the frustrations lie though, we’ve made two fantastic signings. We probably need two more to get us right back up within touching distance of City again. We have the means to make life much easier for ourselves.

4.) 23 Aug 2023 19:08:41
We can definitely be positive about our squad. But at the end of the day, if we don't get the much needed depth and quality to back it up then we could easily be in for another wasted season.

I do think it's a bit premature to make any conclusions yet, but who knows with this club.

5.) 23 Aug 2023 19:14:10
There is a lot of negativity on here lately. I used to enjoy Negative Walter's pessimism but it seems to have spread to every other poster. According to the betting people who use maths and stats and non-emotional stuff to judge things we are destined for 1st in Europa League and 2nd or 3rd in EPL. That ties in with my pint half full attitude.

6.) 23 Aug 2023 19:16:16
Imagine the uproar, if we end up losing on Sunday and finish with no more incomings for the transfer window.

That wouldn’t be toxic. It would be the correct course of action due to an incompetent recruitment team.

7.) 23 Aug 2023 19:17:53
The only negative should be Jota.

Even his assists aren’t very good.

8.) 23 Aug 2023 19:25:12
There'll be negative people scowling no matter what. And there'll be positive people who'll be cheery no matter what. What's the ideal formula to be acceptable and palatable on a free forum, then? There isn't any, is there?

9.) 23 Aug 2023 19:34:24
I agree with this. I think we are stronger than last season and I'm optimistic of a top 4 finish. The disappointment is that we appear to have done the bare minimum again, a couple more quality additions and you feel we could challenge for the title.

10.) 23 Aug 2023 20:00:10
It’s been an okay window and to give Liverpool their due they did bud £111m for Caicedo. My surprise is why they don’t just go out and get Doucoure and an available LCB with that money.

11.) 23 Aug 2023 20:21:00
Does the lack of activity in defence suggest Trent won't be playing the hybrid role of late last season? That Klopp is pinning his hopes on Konate staying fit and Virgil returning to his best form?

Re replacing Fabinho. Young Stefan did that pre injury. In about 6 games on the trot he was the best in the team (not much competition at that stage to be fair) . But, that's a gamble, unless he's confident Endo and others can fill that role too. Let's be realistic, we're also talking about Fabs from 3-4 years ago. Endo I'm sure will do better than Fabs has done in the past couple of years.

12.) 23 Aug 2023 20:33:34
Agreed ArAy
Only today I seem to remember, after 2 games our new midfielder being bandied about as the new Gerrard.

Or Liverpool competing for a Conference League spot this season.

No point criticising one particular group of fans over another. ?.

13.) 23 Aug 2023 20:51:00
If you expect disappointment, then you are not as disappointed when disappointment happens. When you are not disappointed, you still expect disappointment to allay future disappointments.
A man, he needs certainty.

14.) 23 Aug 2023 21:03:02
I think we all know that we aren’t competing for the title unless we bring in 2 or 3 top players in the next few days. Would make it quite a few years already years without a title. We all just want the club to get back to competing at the top but i think we’re going to try fool fans into thinking top 4 is a successful season i just hope fans don’t fall for it. We should be holding the club to the highest of standards.

15.) 23 Aug 2023 21:04:13
@Davey love the word hyperbole but litotes is better, and often it goes un-noticed .

16.) 23 Aug 2023 21:09:11
I think it has been a very good window - we have gone a lon way to address our major issue. Last season the midfield didn’t perform and not only did they not do their job they also put unnecessary pressure on the defence. It’s not 100% fixed yet but the window is still open.

The defence is the next thing to fix but I think some of the frailties have been addressed by the cover that will be provided by the midfield.

I don’t think this window could fix everything but the net results of the ins and outs is that we are better placed than we were imho.

17.) 23 Aug 2023 21:12:52
5th place and Klopp goes.

18.) 23 Aug 2023 21:13:00
Our squad is the smallest in the division. Certainly not winning the quadruple this year.

19.) 23 Aug 2023 21:27:49
Jota scores goals. Is that not the idea.

People Diss these players so much.

Just enjoy peeps.

20.) 23 Aug 2023 21:32:08
It’s certainly not universal negativity.

I’m excited and hopeful.

21.) 23 Aug 2023 21:44:36
Window has been a game of two halves. Focussed and deliberate in Macca and Szobo. Hendo and Fab exit and we hit the buffers. Since then feels a bit like a scatter gun shiz show. This should have been the window of windows to get us challenging again. Is there a coherent transfer plan? Not knowing the preferred formation leaves us all guessing which adds to the frustration. Can’t wait until the window closes.

22.) 23 Aug 2023 22:16:07
I’m fine with sticking to Endo and Bajcetic but I would be furious if we failed to sign a left footed centre back. I think that alone could be the difference between the title and the top four scramble.

23.) 23 Aug 2023 22:57:39
Proven fact that in almost any interaction, we are more likely to notice negative things. Seems like we’re caught in a spiral of negativity.
I’m with Ron Keague, things are looking good! I reckon we’ve found a real gem in Dominik Szoboszlai!

24.) 23 Aug 2023 23:07:49
Harry, is our squad any smaller than City’s, Arsenal or United? I don’t think it is mate.

Chelsea has about a thousand and it’s still not enough?.

25.) 23 Aug 2023 23:15:25
Allow the window to end first so we can judge things afterwards. As for negativity, that exists regardless. People are free to focus on that, focus on the positive or just leave everything as a wash and support the team.

26.) 24 Aug 2023 00:00:52
@Habibi, how can you say our squad is the smallest in the division. It makes no sense, for starters VVD, Matip and Gakpo are all very tall.

27.) 24 Aug 2023 09:53:25
How do some of you judge our transfer window? Net spend? The number of players brought in? By the players we let go or that we sold?
Shouldn't we wait til we see what they can do on the pitch?
Don't get me wrong, I think we need a couple more in and I don't think we'll win the League but what can I do?
I'm not giving up and I won't let it affect it me too much. I'm wrong about loads of stuff, I'm hoping this is yet another and I'm looking forward to the next game more than the next name we are 'linked' to.
