I've never been one to wish ill on other teams but I really hope West Ham don't progress to the final.
It is due to be played 3 days after their match at home to City, and if they go through to the final they'll make wholesale changes. Whereas if they play their first team and go for it, that's a difficult double away trip for City who travel to Wolves a few days before.
Might not make a difference but I can't help but look ahead.
I'm so glad that Jurgen is red š.
1.) 29 Apr 2022 08:51:55
OP, I think regardless of whether WH make the final or not, Moyes will not just let the players lay down for City. Moyes doesn't roll that way and WH did not get to where they are now by rolling over and allow the bigger teams to just tickle them. Also remember, City are hurting right now so they have that issue as well. We shall see.
{Ed001's Note - are you sure you know who Moyes is? That is exactly the way he is.}
2.) 29 Apr 2022 09:11:11
Yeh Oli, Moyes is going to go full strength against City 3 days before a Cup final! Not a Jaysus hope.
3.) 29 Apr 2022 09:13:14
Anyone would roll over for their opposition if they have UEL Final in 3 days. I would rather go for the UEL champion, auto qualified for UCL next season, European trophy. Why would people not roll over for that especially when there's nothing to be gain from that City game for them. And I'm with OP, I'm secretly wishing WHU lost their semis so that they wouldn't play a weakened side vs City due to the upcoming UEL Final š¤.
4.) 29 Apr 2022 09:34:30
Moyes is one of footballs nearly men.
5.) 29 Apr 2022 09:48:40
But you could flip it on its head and say all those players picked for the city game will have a point to prove. As they will want to show why they should be picked for one of the biggest games of their lives 3 days later.
{Ed001's Note - and yet they will all know they have been picked because they are not in the manager's thinking for the big game unless he has no choice but to pick them.}
6.) 29 Apr 2022 09:52:24
Ed01, of course I could be wrong. I stand corrected.
{Ed001's Note - he has put out basically a reserve team before most of the European ties this season.}
7.) 29 Apr 2022 10:07:42
If I was west ham manager and was in europa final absolutely no doubt I'd rest whole team for city game. not often west ham get 2 a final nevermind a European 1. We definitely need wh knocked out at semi final stage for them to take points of city.
8.) 29 Apr 2022 10:33:26
Didnāt Moyes Utd team lay down for the full 12 months he was there.
9.) 29 Apr 2022 10:49:46
He did it last weekend. Left out Rice and 4 others ahead of last nightās game.
I donāt want WHU going through because some of their fans (allegedly) assaulted two German commentators. A more valid reason for not wanting them in Europe.
We should have beaten Man City. It was in our own hands. They will not drop any more points this season. Remaining teams are too scared of them.
10.) 29 Apr 2022 11:15:04
IFun question, if you had Ā£1 million, would you put it on City to win all their remaining PL fixtures? I wouldnāt.
11.) 29 Apr 2022 11:22:34
So you don't want WH to go through because an individual assaulted someone? Pot kettle and all that.
12.) 29 Apr 2022 12:48:05
St Etienne have you not seen City this season? Yes they are a great side but they have already lost 3 times and drawn 5. That makes it a quarter of their games they have dropped points in.
Itās more likely they will drop points than they wonāt but itās the same for us so we canāt blink first.
I just think we have the momentum right now and they donāt have a top striker to nick a goal in tight games.
Personally I think we are slight favourites.
13.) 29 Apr 2022 12:51:07
Iāll also be hoping that Villa get sucked back into the relegation battle just in time for their final game of the season at the Etihad, looking at their fixtures itās highly possible.
14.) 29 Apr 2022 13:25:47
It wonāt matter anyway because Leeds end their season tomorrow night šš.
15.) 29 Apr 2022 15:47:05
I'll go with you on that one FC8.
16.) 29 Apr 2022 16:35:26
Same here, Barry and LFC08. And to put some shine on Becker's point regarding City dropping points, they have won 7 of their last 11 PL games meaning in about a third of their games over that span, they have dropped points. Us? 10 wins and 1 draw at City.
Not saying Leeds will do them (Come Leeds! ) BUT just saying they are more likely to drop points than we will based on the trend currently.
17.) 29 Apr 2022 17:03:57
Over the last 11 games City have dropped more points than us.
However over 33 league games this season we have dropped more points than City.
For me City have the slight advantage as they have 1 more point than us but there is a chance that they will drop points in any of their next 5 league games. But the truth is thereās the exact same chance that we might also drop points in the next 5 also plus just as much chance that neither team might drop anymore points.
All we can do is keep our eyes in our boat and win our games. We have zero influence on what City do now.
18.) 29 Apr 2022 16:17:52
Personally I wouldnāt mind Villa being relegated. Pre-season they looked to be heading in the right direction but have been poor despite Stevie G making a bit of a splash when he joined and the show pint Coutinho who had about 3 or 4 good touches in his first couple of games.
19.) 29 Apr 2022 18:52:49
In response to your point JK23, i think OliRed has picked up on something I have been saying all season; the level of this City team is one whereby they drop points consistently every 5 games or so.
Liverpool dropped lots of silly points early on in the season, but the second half we have been pretty much flawless and i never felt our early season results were a true reflection of our ability, we had a lot of tactical issues to sort out mainly stemming from midfield problems and the hangover of the injuries that key players had sustained last season.
I think based on the trends we have seen thus far we can have confidence in believing that City will drop points in the next five games, by hook or by crook.
If we keep plugging away i believe City will crumble, but we HAVE to do our job against Newcastle tomorrow and it will not be easy.
20.) 29 Apr 2022 19:52:50
West Ham can catch United and finish ahead of them, youād think that might motivate Golum.
21.) 29 Apr 2022 20:41:17
Aw Iām not denying that mate and I really really hope that City do drop more points and we win the league and quadruple. Iām just saying thereās other scenarios apart from us winning the lot. Worst case we could come away from this season with just the League cup and thereās lots of others in between.
Iāve got everything crossed for the lot but if we only get 1 more then itās still been a great season for me.
22.) 30 Apr 2022 10:44:42
Itās 46 years since West Ham weāre in. a European final. Moyes isnāt my ācup of teaā but you canāt blame the fella for prioritising Europe. In his position I would and itās something virtually everybody would do.
Like I say, I donāt like Moyes and thereās heaps of stuff to criticise him about but just not on this one.
25 Apr 2022 07:23:06
I can't believe anybody thinks Gordon might have had a penalty. He's literally flung himself to the ground at the very first sign of a touch. No intention to shoot, eyes only for going down.
Both teams might have had a red card, but that probably works out in Everton's favour as they won't lose Richarlison for the next 3 games, whereas we could cope if Mane had taken a ban.
1.) 25 Apr 2022 07:32:34
I didnāt think it was a pen however, I thought Matip was daft to initiate the contact as Gordon looked to be over running it to me. Enjoyed the game, nice to see origi score in another Merseyside derby, nice parting gift. I thought Gordon looked very goodā¦. and what is going on with dele Ali, has he not been playing (starting games) for Everton?
2.) 25 Apr 2022 07:40:12
We could've had no complaints if pen had gone against us. Could've gone either way. Matip was lucky.
3.) 25 Apr 2022 07:49:02
The really sad thing were Gordonās comments after the match, along the lines of āI felt the contact so went down. I can see why he doesnāt give the penalty but it wasnāt a yellow card for me.
Itās not just Gordon, itās the attitude across the game, but itās a shame that a kiddie (with some talent) should look to cheat rather than staying on his feet to try to score. Or worse, be coached to cheat. Like I say the trait exists across the game and itās poor.
{Ed025's Note - I agree WDW. But until the higherarchy get a grip of it mate clubs will take advantage Iām afraid..
4.) 25 Apr 2022 07:53:31
I initially thought it wasnāt a pen. But in all fairness, watching that again, it was clumsy and should have been a pen. Anywhere else on the pitch and thatās a foul.
But hey, Everton got a lifetime of luck last year (Thiago and VVD fouls, bs offside) against us so we were due something. And in fairness to the ref, Gordon went down pathetically earlier which probably paid its part.
{Ed025's Note - 2 wrongs have never made a right reyray..
5.) 25 Apr 2022 08:31:38
It was one of those where you are furious if it's given against you but you scream "penalty" if it's your team attacking. That's one of the things I find so frustrating with football managers in their interviews and football fans discussing it. Lampard bleating about it after the match but what would he have said if it had been at the other end and been given as a penalty for Liverpool? He'd have been fuming, saying it was good defending and whinging about never getting anything given in their favour.
6.) 25 Apr 2022 08:34:23
If Everton hadn't spent the entire match diving and feigning injury I'm sure the ref would've given the pen. Boy who cried wolf and all that.
7.) 25 Apr 2022 08:55:29
best laugh of the day was when Alisson caught the ball and then did a Pickford and flopped to the ground.
8.) 25 Apr 2022 09:03:51
Unfortunately itās part of the game. Lampard bleated about it being a pen as he had to say something. His players will be watching that and he needs to try and remain confident and uplift their mood.
Everton bar 2 chances offered nothing and with 15% possession all game if that was big Sam or someone people would be complaining about it. Frank never mentioned it as he didnāt want focus on it so he said about the penalty as it deflects from his inept ability to play football. He played for the draw and only Gordon for Everton tried. Heās a young kid heās he dived and fell over way to easy against matip but at least he showed desire to do something more than any other Everton player did.
9.) 25 Apr 2022 10:22:16
It could well have been a pen. The DCL one versus Lovren a few years ago was given. We got away with that one tbf. Matip didn't need to touch him as he was heading straight for the by-line rather than goal.
10.) 25 Apr 2022 12:09:12
Matip did exactly what any defender should in that situation. He leaned on the attacker to not give him a clean strike on goal. Itās good defending and has been good defending since the year dot.
Gordon has felt the contact and thrown himself to the floor and then their legs have got tangled because Matip fell over him.
If Matip had pushed him with his hands or dived in and not got the ball then it wouldāve been a pen. As it was he just leaned on him and Gordon tried to cheat the ref as he was trying to all day.
Would it be given as a free kick outside the box? Possibly but we all know that to the tolerance level inside the box is much higher due to the jeopardy of giving a penalty.
Keane knocked Origi over inside the box which would probably be a free kick outside the box but never a penalty inside the box.
They deserved nothing from the game and got nothing. Letās hope we donāt have to play that Mickey Mouse outfit for the next few years.
11.) 25 Apr 2022 12:29:49
WDW, Gordon saying he felt the contact and went down proves it was NOT a pen and you know what else? On the Matip incident, Gordon and Matip were hand fighting initially and when he "felt the contact", he went down, just like he did for the dive. Hence, NO pen for me. Source? The culprit himself, IMO.
12.) 25 Apr 2022 13:13:10
if the call could go either way then isn't it true that if the call went the other way then Matip would have been unlucky?
Anyways moving on.
13.) 26 Apr 2022 01:09:59
@Olired that was the point I was trying to make - he actually played for the penalty and then admitted it wasnāt a penalty. My wider point is that (nearly everybody) does it and it is poor.
Look at the great players Pele, Best, Cruyff, Maradona, Messi - you couldnāt knock them over with a sledge hammer - their only thought was to score.
Anyway, as Flash said, moving on ā¦.

I think Son would be the perfect Bobby replacement but honestly I think weāve got more chance of finding intelligent cheese on the moon.
09 May 2022 16:35:55
I donāt see it unless one of Firmino, Diaz, Salah, Mane or Jota leave. I think we could convince him to come in and be a part of a āfront 5ā but doubt he would (or should) accept an Origi style role.
25 Mar 2022 20:25:22
Sarah. SARAH.
12 Mar 2022 08:42:55
Iād just like to add, that when JoeGo was in the 11 next to Virgil playing consistently there was not 1 call for him to be dropped.
He was far less divisive than Matip,

Winners medal, statue, he can have what he wants except Klopps job š¤£.
15 May 2022 13:25:13
Thereās no CWC this season I believe.
15 May 2022 09:26:54
Yeah, there isnāt really any value in going full strength of City win today.
