Great post. The ostriches will shout against you, but I firmly believe this "save energy so we are stronger in the second half of the season" test has failed miserably.
If anything, we are weaker.

Echo the sentiment of others in that it is a depressing read but agree with it all. We've had Rodgers and Hodgson before who clearly were out of their depths especially the latter but never had the money available or squad that Slot has. I could put up with it all if the football was actually worth watching but its so boring and dull and worse of all he actually advocates for it because he believes its the way to go.
Ed001 said it best, Slot just doesn't get English football at all and the need for physicality and a baseline level of fitness and hardwork. If he stays i'm not giving a penny and won't be watching us play he's brand of football.

Depressing read, but hard to argue.
The fact that we need a cultural reset so soon is a massive concern.
Do Slot and Hughes care enough about Liverpool to restore an elite performance and winning culture at the club? We all have our doubts on that.

There is an article by football strength & conditioning coach Simon Brundish that suggests that Ekitike's injury isn't just down to luck. It shows the massive drop off in physical output from Ekitike at Frankfurt, and now at Liverpool, and attributes at least some of the blame on the poor conditioning of the player.
So while there is a load of bad luck involved in Ekitike's injury, there have to be questions about the conditioning of the players - which is on Arne Slot and his team.

One for your ed0025 buddy.
"To reassure supporters attending on Sunday, Merseyside Police will support @Everton club stewards with the ejection of any away supporters found in home areas of the stadium. If you have any concerns, please speak to the nearest steward or officer."
Whilst none of us have particularly liked the way it's become increasingly nasty - the friendly derby really is dead and buried.
{Ed025's Note - unfortunately these are the times we live in Wassa, its very sad especially for the guys who can remember walking to the game with blues and reds, sitting together in the ground and having a pint after the game without a hint of trouble, Halcyon days indeed mate..
18 Apr 2026 01:05:04
I went to the Merseyside derby at Wembley in 84, I think... I went into the Everton end with a few blue mates because couldn't get a ticket for our end... no trouble at all. Now, no chance would I go in there.

Ed001 a question about salah if not already been asked and answered.
I remember years ago you mentioned the difference between bill and Bob was that Bob was ruthless and knew when the right time to move a player on was, where as bill was more loyal and kept players past there best. Apologies if I've mixed up managers.
So my question is is now the right time for salah to depart, or was last year or would you keep him another season if you had the say. Just curious on your opinion on this.
Thanks.
{Ed001's Note - the issue is the manager for me, it makes little difference what you do with any of the players while Slot is in charge. He hasn't got the tactical acumen to get the best from them. On that basis, it would have been best if Salah left last summer, but we could never have known how badly Slot would make a mess of this season.}
17 Apr 2026 23:23:59
Slot is so stubborn with this slow possession, wide wingers approach when it doesn't suit 90% of the players. You need to platform the guys you've got and get them into positions that suit them! He's made himself look really dumb this year imo.
Agree2
17 Apr 2026 23:00:11
Spot on, Ed. I see people saying we need to sign this or that guy and all that but if the main issue (the manager) is not addressed, nothing will change.
We gave him some of the best players on the planet this season and he has done absolutely nothing with them so what makes people think that giving him another 250m for ex. for new players will suddenly be the epiphany.
As for Salah, the club wanted him gone in the summer and frankly, I think him being benched by Slot was part of that move that happened behind his back. Soon as that happened, Slalah was a gonner IMO because you can't mend that fence esp. with a manager that has no people skills at all.
Agree3
18 Apr 2026 00:57:38
I love our club, watching Liverpool over the years is like a chance to block out life's ups and downs and just focus solely on a game of football, hoping for a win and some enjoyment and entertainment.
I don't want to watch our club play football under this manager, obviously I have zero control over whether things change or not, but my 2 hours that I looked forward to once or twice a week are gone for me at the minute.
I've never been one to call for a manager to be sacked like we're Chelsea, especially after such a fantastic season last year, but this isn't just a blip or a bad patch, it's a shambles, we've gone so far backwards, it's beyond belief.
I don't want to see us under this manager anymore, I'll still watch though, as I'm obviously a glutton for punishment, but change is needed. He's had long enough now, thanks for last season, but enough is enough.

Salah was gone as soon as he opened his gob on the under the bus statement. No one is bigger than the football club, every player should know that before opening their gob. YNWA
Agree0
{Ed001's Note - that was nothing to do with the football club - that was about Slot, who should have been gone.}
18 Apr 2026 12:36:24
Albeydered, miss me with the old, tired, ragged "No one's bigger than the club" nonsense cos that doesn't even apply here. Salah never said he was bigger than the club. He spoke his mind as a leader and our no.1 star and challenged this feckless manager who was failing miserably and shouldn't have even been there at that point, to begin with.
So considering the above, do you think if the club did him dirty and are scapegoating him for the manager's our woes, he should not have spoken out? You think top players will remain silent like that? Now the club backed Slot and that's fine, however, we have seen now how Slot has been exposed for his callousness cos we struggle mightily regardless of whether Salah plays or not.
Who's fault is that, then? Salah's gob, apparently.
At the end of the day, you can think that all you want but the bottom line is that what was done to him, was done to him and no one at the club denied his claim meaning, Salah told the truth. Now the manager has nowhere to hide. Just saying.

Everyone has their one opinion. For me, Salah is a fantastic player and gets in my all time 11, but he is not our greatest Premier League player, that is Gerrard, and after him, for pure quality, comes Fowler and Suarez. Both did not do it as long as Salah, but both were better players, one hampered by an injury and one was just a horrible rat.
π But I have still never seen one player make such a difference, and if he had been in Klopp's team I don't think there would have been any stopping us.

Great player. He wasn't better than Gerrard though. We were blessed to have Salah but Salah was blessed with an exceptional team and vice versa.

You can't compare him to Gerrard. Different positions and roles entirely. Both LFC all time first 11 players. A privilege to have seen both give their all for us and the club. I'd love to have seen a Trent-Gerrard-Salah RHS play in the one team managed by Jurgen. Dreamland.

He can leave knowing he gave is all and won pretty much everything with us.
A legend through and through.

Great read ed, thanks for that. I'm just thankful Mo gave his best years to LFC and his availability for those years was exceptional. He leaves a legend, and I'll fondly remember the joy he brought to me and my kids over the years, no matter how this season has been.

Outsanding work, Ed01. Like you, this season was not the way I thought Salah would leave LFC. Not under these circumstances.
Well as they say in French, "Love stories almost always end badly". Now that being said, Mohammed Salah is an LFC and PL legend and would walk into any PL All-time 11 hands down, IMO.
And I know the fans at Anfield on the final day v Brentford will give him the sending off him and his accomplishments deserve. Decades from now, we will still be talking about the greatness of Mohammed Salah, running down the wing.

When I think about the zenith of football, I think of R9, the original Ronaldo, around 1995-1998, and when I think of how good an LFC player can be, I see Barnesy doing his dances in 1987-9, but for the spirit of football as entertainment and a team game, it's always Bobby.
He should be a lifetime ambassador at our great club, after coming home to coach our academy strikers. A gem.

Nice read ed001. I don't want the job of replacing him. Its impossible. Its not just the numbers it's the man.
It's unfortunate that with a once in lifetime trio of attacking talent we had man city as opposition who could just spend endless money.
We could have won 3titles with mane salah and bobby which probably would have elevated salah beyond kenny as the no 1 player to have ever worn the shirt for us. But he is my close no2. Forever Mo!
Agree1
{Ed001's Note - three titles would have been well deserved for those three as well.}
17 Apr 2026 17:32:45
Just wondering out loud but I think after the season end review I think they'll try and appeas us fans but there not going to sack slot but I can see them ditching Van Bronkhurst and replacing him with Gerrard to get the fans back on side! Would anyone feel more confident if they did heading into next season if it happens?
17 Apr 2026 18:01:48
No chance whatsoever. Can't see Gerrard wanting to come in under the man he wants to replace, and I don't imagine the club would fancy it either. You're only presenting an opportunity for the assistant to undermine the manager.
What happens when the form dips and the crowds have been chanting Gerrard's name at every game? The whole situation would create a huge amount of tension at the club.

Yes, it is a good point, but Gerrard has made overtones that he's willing to come in as a no 2 cus he's not ready to manage us! I just feel they have to try win us back n Van Bronkhurst has been an unmitigated disaster n an easy fall guy if you're gona stick with Slot.
I'd take anyone with prem experience over him and I'd sack all the fitness coaches.

What's the point π€·π»ββοΈ season's over. If you're one of the fans that struggle to get tickets now's your chance coz massive amounts of Liverpool fans have checked out and they'll be available
It's been an absolute disaster, top to bottom, start to finish.
Can't wait for it all to end and we can look forward to "hopefully" massive changes in summer without Arne, Hughes and Edwards.

It looks an amazing stadium Ed025!
Many of my blue mates say it's hard to travel to and there's no boozers nearby. Hopefully, as time goes by new pubs will be built and transport infrastructure will improve.
I wonder if the opposite is happening in the Goodison area, if the local pubs and shops are now feeling the pinch?

Just wanted to say thanks to Ed's, Carra, Fields, Robbo and to everyone who shares what they hear with us on this great site. I live down in Norfolk and don't get to hear anything on the grapevine, so sharing what you hear is a great connection with the club and other reds for us to debate, argue about so it wouldn't be the same without you guys. Just wanted to ask a question of you. Having seen yesterday that Edwards and Hughes are staying for the summer transfer window, is this likely to be correct? Because I'm guessing they'll of already laid the groundwork in regards squad planning, transfer targets, contacted agents etc, all which happens months in advance of the window opening? The point that they're staying for the summer window, very much sounds like they'll be off come September and the club will go in a different direction? Or is someone like Julian Ward likely to step up again? With that lack of commitment from them after September, does it mean FSG are the ones making the call on a new manager? Or are Edwards and Hughes advising them regards head coach/manager? As I write this out it sounds very much like a club that doesn't know what it's doing and future planning is not really happening.
We need to find our identity and not just be a numbers club.
