I kinda liked sakho. He was OK in his "Bambi on ice" kinda way. Elegantly inelegant. But I don't agree with folks saying we should have kept him. Out of all the teams looking for centre backs the past window, how many were in for him? One or two lower prem league clubs. Hell, top teams were after Evans despite sakhos availability. Says a lot.

Question for the eds. Given arsenal fielded less than 11 players at kick off, is there not rules which say you can't do that? What? They did field 11 players? You're kidding, right?

slowdog76

{Ed001's Note - it is just that Xhaka is always so late into everything, particularly the tackle, it looks like he is not there.}

Not a big fan of Xhaka then ed?

{Ed001's Note - he is utterly crap mate.}

Excellent acquisition for the CEO position I feel. YNWA peter Moore.

Someone to make the club more money.

2.) 28 Feb 2017 13:49:13
It's great mate hire someone with no football experience but make more money for the owner great banter.

{Ed002's Note - It is not a like-for-like replacement, the club has restructured the management and responsibilities with Mike Gordon being very much the focal point.}

3.) 01 Mar 2017 03:21:42
Hi ed002

Apart from input into recruitment, in what other ways will Moore's role differ to Ayre's?

{Ed002's Note - His focus will be very much the global off field business and he won't deal with the players, their agents, the contracts and he won't have any involvement in the transfer dealings with other clubs.}

I know and agree that's stats should always be taken with a pinch of salt. Having said that, they can be a good starting point for discussion, and with that in mind, did anyone else see the sky sports article that "found" January statistically our worst month since the premier league started? That surprised me. I would have picked november. Remember loads of them where we totally went off the boil

Is this meant to be sarcastic? Also genuinely think this whole plan b think is utter nonsense. You can't have a team of players ready and prepared to play two entirely different styles of play. Don't get me wrong can have a team be more offensive or defensive but in terms of playing two different styles of play don't see how it works.

For example at our best we play a high pressuring team, that relies on having 3 rotating CF and a mobile midfield capable of moving the ball quickly, whilst playing a high line defensively. where this supposed plan b would require; a CF who was the focal point of the attack with either wingers and/ or a midfield to feed of them or attackers to play off them. where playing high line (which would be suicide due to the amount of times you'd lose the ball or at least two defensive minded CM to compensate) . Meaning would literally need two teams of 11 capable of playing two entirely different styles, plus subs.

For me, will hold my hand up and say I was wrong. Thought we had a great squad with high fitness levels. However, we seem to have a fantastic starting XI when fully fit, that massively suffers when 1 player goes missing (eg; mane, matip, coutinho, firminho, Henderson, etc. ) that currently look exhausted.

I was wondering if the eds could provide some insight into the actual role of the captain in modern day football. So much is made of it, but exactly how necessary are they? Of course they can be an example to younger kids/ players and a leader on the pitch, but surely any senior can be, and often is that. Is there more behind the scenes aspects to it, or is the role more these days a focal point for the media?

Ed2. There's an interesting article on BBC sport regarding tapping up. Was wondering your take on it. And no, I'm not trying to justify, deflect, etc etc. Just found it interesting given this summers antics.

{Ed002's Note - I will have a read when I get the time.}

My arsenal supporting buddy is convinced ox is better than clyne, taa and Gomez and would have been our number 1 rwb if he came to us.

I would work there, as long as you don't forget to leave matip when you leave.

The long range shots are necessary though when teams such as Burnley pack all but one of their players into the box. Because, as we also found out, breaking through that many players in such a confined space is difficult.

I was a huge rugby union fan for a long time and in that sport you find the supporters want to see an entertaining enjoyable game first, result second. I've kept that mentality with me, and with that in mind, results aside, the vast majority of our games are entertaining as hell. I remember when klopp first signed, ed01 told u all that his tenure would be a rollercoaster and certainly not boring. I concur whole heartedly with this. One thing we are not is boring. Of course I want us to win things, but I want to be entertained too. Isn't that the point?
