Around 10 months ago I posted on this site that vvd shoud be our captain after watching him at West Brom.

His reaction to the city defeat, how vocal he has been how we respond, his aura and how the stuck up for salah have shown he is the natural leader. His size and presence also endear players to look up to him and mean he has to be listened to.

My question is can klopp ask hendo to step aside or is commerciality far more important.

Nothing personal agaisnt hendo. I just don't think he has all those characteristics.

1.) 05 Jan 2019 23:45:23
Does it really matter who has the armband? I'm pretty sure VVD is a captain in his own right without needing an armband and there is a reason why klopp still keeps Hendo as captain. Why not just trust our manager and players who have us top of the league than complain about trivial matters?

2.) 06 Jan 2019 00:02:32
Klopp has never been one to make a fuss over captains. Kehl was club captain at Dortmund for years and was never ceremoniously replaced when he spent the later years on the bench. Hendo and Milner will remain 1 and 2 but the boys already voted in VVD as 3rd choice so he’ll be captain 80% of the time I think anyway.

3.) 06 Jan 2019 00:23:52
I don’t think VVD will change any of those characteristics whether he has an armband on or not.
He’s a leader and he doesn’t need an armband to prove it.

4.) 06 Jan 2019 00:35:53
Maybe we should sign Nikolai Valuev? His "size" makes Virgil look tiny.

5.) 06 Jan 2019 01:45:32
Wahaha MK.
Then we’ll have him play as CF in a friendly against RM so he can give Ramos a schooling.

6.) 06 Jan 2019 03:22:53
The captain debate. Again?

7.) 06 Jan 2019 04:50:04
Out of interest - does a club have to in some way decalre their club captain to the FA?

{Ed002's Note - The FA? No.}

8.) 06 Jan 2019 07:03:17
The thing is we have leaders in all our lines. Bobbys has been wearing it a couple of times for Brazil, Mané for Senegal, Fabinho for Monaco, Robbertson for Scotland, Gomez for England u21, Hendo for us and England and VVD for Saints and the Oranje. I'm not sure Becker were captain for Roma, but he's a commander compared to Simon and Karius. I would choose VVD, not only because he seems the most naturally one, but he plays every single minut, and I can't see why he wouldnt, unless he's being rested, which he rarely are. The midfield are more exposed to rotation.

9.) 06 Jan 2019 08:51:10
Regardless of the arm band, I think we have three leaders on the pitch. As I sit fairly close ( ish ) to the pitch, you can clearly see Alisson organising, then VVD barking orders then further up we have Hendo.

This to me is only a good thing as you need more than one leader on the field imo.

10.) 06 Jan 2019 10:59:12
When you need him most a Captain steps forward and wins a game for you plays that pass to get the winning goal puts in that crunching tackle to get the crowd and his team going
Hendo last done any of the above when?
Everyone and his dig knows VVD is captain so for me it is no issue.

11.) 06 Jan 2019 17:54:13
If it was picked today it would be VVD. but we have a captain. He has been at the club for years, through good times and bad. He has done us proud and steadied the ship when needed.

But what is an armband? Its an abstract concept really. The question is; do we have a leader? Yes we do, we have at least 6.

12.) 06 Jan 2019 18:05:51
Really? This whole capt. crap again? Some people just won't give up until their wet dream of Hendo being deposed as captain and VVD assuming the mantle, comes to pass. Can you people not take a hint? Hendo is club capt. and Milner is his deputy. That will NEVER change. How do we know that? Klopp has spoken about it and clearly, is done talking about it BUT clearly, some people are not satisfied. As long as Hendo is doing what Klopp wants as capt., VVD will NEVER see the armband and some of you are goona have to get over it and really, get over yourselves cos you know nothing about what is going on in the dressing room amongst players and coaches. Peace!

13.) 06 Jan 2019 18:08:44
Johncrow Junior, I don't understand your post, really. "When you need him, a capt. steps forward and wins a game for you. ". Please, could you tell me in what rule book that is written in as a job requirement for capt. or did you just make that up? Also if that was the case, how did the likes of Maldini, Baresi, Deschamps and so on have great careers as capt of their clubs and national teams (something Hendo was for a period) while playing in defence or as DM (something Hendo was for a period) with the inability to "step forward and create the pass to win you the game"? Didn't think so. Hendo is not asked to "make a pass to win the game for us" ans that is not his job and neither is that VVD's job.

Hendo's job is to lead the team and put his team mates in a position to perform and cover for them when they screw up and gather the troops when things are not going well. You know, like he did vs Roma at Anfield where he bossed Naingolaan off the pith or vs PSG when he bossed their midfield or vs Napoli, City in the CL last season and on and on. Oh, I guessed you missed that in your post. Hendo is doing a fantastic job of what Klopp and his ream mates (who respect him by all accounts, per Ed01) and if that keeps happening, VVD will NEVER be capt. over him regardless of the disgraceful way you discredit Hendo with NO facts to back it up. Peace!

14.) 06 Jan 2019 19:19:30
Milner is 3 yrs older than hendo and hendo is 4 yrs older than vvd so virgil will probably become captain one day. You can't say never. Leave it at that. We are top of the league, it must be working. We have all seen that vvd is a leader. In our best 11 there are maybe 2/ 3 players who are not leaders or who have not been leaders. But there are players outside the best 11 who can lead and motivate too.

15.) 06 Jan 2019 19:22:23
Redwolf you can continue this love at all cost for Hendo but im not here to follow Ed001 (with all due respect to Ed001) I have my own opinion and stated what I feel a captain should be
Im not sure how you know what is going on in the dressing rooms as I sure don't hence why I never mentioned it, I say what I see on the pitch and that is a man who should taking games by the scruff of the neck when his team needs them and leading them to victory
ala Keane Viera Gerrard Lampard midfielders who made the difference over countless games time and time again and not all were captains
If you want to follow the pack of sheep who say Hendo is good enough to command a starting place in our midfield then good for you not me I have my own opinion
He is not even the best Midfielder in his postion at the club imo
I don't rate him but support him coz he plays for my team end off but do I believe he should be captain not in a month of Sundays
Liverpool look better with Gini Fabinho and Keita or Milner and weather you admit it or not that is the midfield which offers us the best chance of winning the big games
Hope this explains it mate Hendo does not do enough for me to be captain on the pitch end off.

16.) 06 Jan 2019 21:12:03
JJ, I see you did not address any of the facts in my post. I am not following Ed01. He know more about what is going on in the background than any of us on this forum. He gives us info none of us (Including yourself) do not know. If you have better info then prove him wrong instead of posting stuff with no facts to back it up.

You comparing Hendo to Lampard, Gerrard, Vieira, Keane and the rest, just shows that you have NO real arguments or calling me sheep or whatever childish name-calling you are into, shows your ability (or lack thereof) to engage in any debate than anything else. Why? You are comparing him to legends of the world and English game, which shows you are supremely biased in your assessment. Why would you compare Hendo to near once in a lifetime individuals of which we may never see again knowing d=full well they are miles ahead of him? It's like comparing Coutinho to Maradona cos they both played the no. 10 position and he is not living up to what Maradona did so he must be crap. Your biased is clearly not showing here.

Hendo has earned everything he has gotten in his LFC career after he told BR to do one when he wanted to get shot of him to Fulham in 2012 in favor of the Welsh Xavi and he rose to capt. of LFC and of England. You saying he is not the best mid. at LFC or other players are better than him, is your opinion and nothing more. I posted facts, as you can read.

Unlike you and your impossible comparisons, I don't want him to be SG, Keane, Adams or whoever. I want him to be the best capt. he can be and lead us his own wa, the way Klopp wants him to lead and as long as he is doing that, you are free to live in your own bubble, one where only Keane, Viera, Lampard or "insert whoever here" should be who any capt. whould be like cos after all, we are all born with personalities similar to these guys.

What your looking thoughts on Henderson or winaldum.

I think Henderson has been a fantastic player for us and it was interesting to see him play the first half the winaldm the second.

Winaldum Imo looks better and more suited to our play. Yesterday was a great eample.

Winaldum has gone from a player most thought would not get a game this year to first choice Imo.

And if that's the case then does Hendo still warrant the captaincy.

What I would love is Hendon to push his game on.

{Ed025's Note - heres my take ravi (for what its worth) , hendo is nothing special but gives 100% every game, gini blows hot and cold but at the moment deserves his place in the team, fab was bought to replace either one of them but i still maintain that he is a lemon mate, just my opinion of course..

1.) 21 Oct 2018 10:32:32
If we're going on performances from day one this season I'd still put Hendo ahead of Wijnaldum but I'd also put Milner and Keita ahead of him too. He's had a few good games but he's not been as incredible as some people make out.

It's frustrating because we know he's capable of quality yet so many games he lacks that quality which I've never being able to understand. One day he'll have a great game the next he'll be invisible for 99% of the match.

2.) 21 Oct 2018 12:55:11
Salah, Keita just got here so that comparison with Milner or whoever, lacks all types of context so that is not fair. Pls, let us compare what is comparable. Hendo is more consistent than Wiji cos as you say, he blows hot and cold. I will not be comparing Keita to anyone until he has been here long enough to be compared with them rationally.

3.) 21 Oct 2018 13:08:02
I must have been watching different games this season then if Hendo has been more consistent. I remember a good performance from him against PSG and decent game against city. But Wijnaldum also played in them games and has turned up for far more.

4.) 21 Oct 2018 14:58:53
I thought hendo was good against PSG but a part from that has done nothing this season. Gini this season I think as been one of are most consistent performers, as for Keita a bit up and down but better than Hendo overall Milner has been class in most games so far. for me a midfield of Gini and Milner and one more but don't think that should be Hendo think it has to be Keita or Shaqiri playing in the Coutinho role.

5.) 21 Oct 2018 18:07:23
That's fair enough Brover, I can't argue against that. Hope you're well mate!

6.) 21 Oct 2018 21:09:30
No prob, Salah. Peace and love, my friend.

7.) 21 Oct 2018 09:54:34
Hendo nothing special ed25? C’mon the lads quality and is our engine when fully fit. Everyone needs an engine. Range of passing is awesome. When fit he walks in to our first team no worries. He’s a leader and we need that quality in our midfield. As for your gini comment I can’t disagree. Far too early to make statements like that about Fab. He’s getting better every time he plays.

{Ed025's Note - i watched fab quite a bit at monaco and was surprised liverpool went for him to be honest reaper, hendo does graft and you need a player like that in your team but i just think he lacks that bit of quality mate imo..

8.) 21 Oct 2018 11:01:51
Do you not rate Fabhino Ed25? I’ve not seen enough of him in a Liverpool shirt to know personally.

{Ed025's Note - i have seen quite a bit of him drogie but fail to see where he fits in to this liverpool side to be honest, but i have been wrong before...1978 i think it was..

9.) 21 Oct 2018 12:57:11
That Fabinho looked very good yesterday actually Ed, really encouraged by his performance. Of course time will tell but I genuinely think he'll be a bit of a gem. And for me I'd go Henderson, great work rate, organiser and can play a pass. Don't think he gets enough credit for keeping the ball ticking over, very rare is he not on hand to take on a pass, and if you notice, where there's a player in space, 90% of the time he gets it spot on, he can't be blamed if there's nothing on ahead of him. In my opinion anyway.

{Ed025's Note - not all of your players have to be great players istanbul and im sure klopp knows more about football than me but i dont see what fab brings to the table, hendo gives his all in every game and i applaud him for that but i just think he lacks that quality that you need to win titles mate...but we will see..

Can i ask why fowler and owen never got on.

For years I thought it was media hype but you clearly seem to know different.

Personally i think owen did us a favour by going to madrid. We just did not get full market value for him.

I also think he was outstaning for a few years but was never good enough to come back after madrid. Signing him back would have been based upon sentiment alone imo.

Once his pace had gone there was not much of a footballer left, just a fox in the box.

A great player for a few seasons, never a legend.

I don't give 2 monkies that he went to united. Had suarez or fowler gone to. united now that would have been different.

{Ed001's Note - it was not so much they didn't get on as people, it was that Owen wanted everything on a plate and built to service his needs only. He didn't like sharing the limelight, and hated even more the fact that he was in Fowler's shadow. Rather than just working harder and making himself better, as at 18 he had the potential to be a much better player, instead he would bitch and moan, which is why he peaked so young. He was the modern day spoilt brat player, who thought the world owed him everything once he had made it.

At youth level he had to constantly prove himself because he was the knob in the Everton shirt who got the stick for wearing it constantly, even though he rejected the Toffees to join Liverpool's youth team. So he had something to prove and worked hard. It all changed the moment he became a first team regular and got a big contract. He reminds me of a mate of mine, whenever he was dating a girl he would do anything to impress them and win them over. Often do the dishes, clean the house etc, the moment he got married it stopped. He turned into Jim Royle, expecting her to run around after him and do everything. Owen is like that. Once he gets his feet under the table, he expects everyone to do everything for him while he tries to avoid it.}

1.) 27 Aug 2018 05:50:24
Just out of curiousity, your mate still married ed? :)
dont give a toss about owen and i don't like him beimg mentioned in the same breath as Fowler. But all pundits do. its a schmockery.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, funnily enough he isn't.}

2.) 27 Aug 2018 06:19:39
My Arse!

3.) 27 Aug 2018 11:19:10
Thanks for the reply edd. I always thought owen was the issue.

{Ed001's Note - welcome Ravi.}

07 Aug 2018 17:47:25
Transfer window is nearly over and what a great window we have had imo. Even if we don't get fekir.

How we forget the days when we were bringning in clint demsey alone or when we signed 8 players in hope.

There will always be gaps in the team but i think going forward in the next 2 or 3 years we will see far less transfer activity as we have a good young squad now.

My thoughts are klopp has deleberately quality signed players so that he has a team that won't need changing much.

My question to any of the edds is what do you think fsg and klopps strategy will be over the next few windows.

Is it fair to say we have finally got a team that requirws the odd or couple of quality players coming in every year.

Its taken years to get there but i think this is the best team and squad we have had since we last window the league.

Thoughts wills be appeciated.

And well done to all associated to this site. Keep up the good work.

1.) 07 Aug 2018 18:03:57
Klopp has started the proper way to do business and that's quality over quantity and only a few each year.

We have come a very very long way since the Dempsey and Charlie Adam days but.

The reason there is a desperation to get 1 more over the line is because we are a whisker away from the title. We're primed to take city all the way but we are still just a player or two short.

By next summer the teams below us could close the gap and the likes of city could get stronger.

We have Chelsea in disarray after he weekend, arsenal and United with question marks and spurs without a single signing.

Even though city only added one they lost absolutely nobody. They looked very strong at the weekend and still have players to come back. Namely de bryune. They have the experience and confidence of last year.

We have as strong as 11 as them but squad wise we are still very short. Mainly up top and in the cb department. Klavan and Matip are injured again. Lovren has only just come back and Gomez hasn't had a season without injuries with us to date.

Some want fekir but for me I would go 60/ 70/ 80bmillion right now for alderwiereld and just test there resolve. Couldn't care how much we blew on a 29 year who is that good. Even for just two years with us. Bexayde I am that confident that' that signing would deliver the title

We could lsoe attacking players to injury throughout the season with a back line of Alison, Trent, Toby, vvd and robbo with fab and hendo marshalling the middle.

We would very very rarely concede.

2.) 07 Aug 2018 18:48:35
I agree kloppsboss.

Remember poch almost went to Madrid. But he is a good mam. He has stayed with his team. To be honest they have a fine young team, without any obvious weaknesses. I thought they might lose a few this window. Kane, Erikson or Ali but they have battened up the hatches and stuck together. They will be in the mix. Lfc City spurs and chelsea/ utd.

3.) 07 Aug 2018 19:28:52
Mate there in the same boat as us with Gerrard, Torres, xabi etc.

We were a lb and a winger away from the title

They seem to think kane and dele will do it all for them forever. They need help.

If they have another season of disappointment those bots could be off.

Sitting watching your tv and your club is making no transfers is as much as disappointment to fans as it is players.

4.) 07 Aug 2018 18:34:18
I'll like koulibally of napoli to partner vvd. am dreaming too much 🙏.

5.) 07 Aug 2018 20:09:30
I agree kloppboss.

I think we need a top center half.

I always remembrr when mark wright got injured all those years ago and imo cost us the title.

Alderweld or koulibely would be amazing.

6.) 07 Aug 2018 20:10:03
The progress has been steady. We've put ourselves in position for this transfer window but it doesn't happen without the foundations klopp and fsg built the previous 2 years.

7.) 07 Aug 2018 21:39:20
What! Danny Rose is a fine lb!

They have a great defence and keeper. They have Erikson with skill, dembele with his strength

Up front they have a goal machine, and on his day Ali us pretty class.

Nah, I was impressed with poch staying at spurs. They beat Madrid in the ucl anyway. They need to keep hold of alderverald though.

8.) 07 Aug 2018 21:49:45
Noones disputing any of it dude.

Just can we go and get a big big cb to partner vvd.

That's it, us done.

The friendly tonight highlighted our predicament.

Phillips, fabinho, Johnson, grujix all playing there. That's not healthy for a full successful season.

Go and get alderwiereld or someone bug mean and as good as vvd. We're done then and ready to mash some teams next season.

9.) 07 Aug 2018 22:35:25
Spurs have gone backwards guys replacing Toby with Sanchez, Walker with Trippier and Rose with Davies. They have players who are making noises to leave which will affect their squad and judging by their beyond abject performance against Girona last week their second 11 is championship quality.
I expect Arsenal and Chelsea to improve this season which for me puts Spurs still in the top 6 but closer to 6th than 1st for me.

18 Jun 2018 16:25:47
Wanted shakiri.

Watched shakiri.

Changed my mind.

Geggen press will destroy him lol. All those muscles will have to go for sure.

And will someone please shut Lawrensons constant negativity up on bbc. He is so patronising. How is he still commentating.

Rant over.

1.) 18 Jun 2018 17:46:11
Lawrenson is the best thing about the bbc.

2.) 18 Jun 2018 18:25:39
Lawrenson is the one thing your positive about Walter? Really? Haha.

3.) 18 Jun 2018 19:43:40
Lawrenson the ManU fan? 🤨.

4.) 18 Jun 2018 21:43:42
OP, I don't want Shaquiri, never wanted him and the hope is, he never comes. You said the Klopp system will kill him. Well funny story. Someone on the Anfield Wrap said he watched the LFC v Stoke game last season at home and saw how over-weight, out of shape, and lazy he was. He said that Shaquiri was dead on his feet after 25 mins. If that is true then, look out.

Not the end of the world.

When I looked at the fixtures I was hoping we would be 2 points behind city going into this game to stand any chance.

Not quite how it turned out so. was always a big bonus.

Fergie mastered big loses and we got to do the same.

City got 3 tough games in the next 5 I think.

We got to win all our 5 before going to old Trafford. that's how you deflate them, ecactly how fergie did it.

I remember beating united, gaining 3 points and before you knew it they were an extra 5 points ahead as we were complacent. They got angry.

What's happens next determines champions. Not a single loss.

All to play for.

Great post George.

I watched derby Forrest last night to see him play.

Imo he went hiding in the game. He never went looking for the ball and his overall play does not get him on our bench. He was average and should have been dubbed. And I'm not being harsh. His defensive work was weak at best.

He had a great volley but that was all.

As much as I would love him to make it at liverpool, based on last night he has no chance.

Put it as other way. We got ox to come back.

I would love to know who we gonnna bring in to replaces sturridge if he leaves.

Who would be happy to sit on the bench week in week out behind firmino.

Sturridge is understanding of his non staring role, clearly has ability and offers us skill, knowhow, experience and an ability to play a great paas and can score.

If he stays fit, there is no better option imo as he fits every criteria except pace.

{Ed025's Note - ...and fitness...and workrate...and heart.. :)
