What is going on with Soton reporting us? Anybody heard anything on the details? Are we in the wrong?

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed025's Note - according to radio solent..

1.) 06 Jun 2017 12:45:50
Not to excuse Liverpool if they actually have gotten this wrong (and hopefully if they did it's a genuine mistake and resolvable rather than arrogance or outright incompetence) however I do think the whole system is flawed.

In what kind of world is speaking to a players agent not effectively speaking to the player themselves? It should be black and white IMO. without permission from the club there should be no communication with players or the players agent to discuss a possible transfer under any circumstances.

2.) 06 Jun 2017 13:01:08
Soton) probably favour a man city deal as it will offer more cash straight up. Our deal likely to feature more add ons and clauses. Let's hope the pony tailed warrior is set on liverpool. I think he is. That's why they're making a fuss though imo.

3.) 06 Jun 2017 15:04:22
Exactly, Jonny. Remember, his agent came to us. We did not go to him meaning, VVD has his mind set on playing for LFC. To me, this is a ploy to send VVD to City against his wish cos they obviously want the money.

They don't want to sell to us cos a) they don't like us and b) they want more money from City who like Chelsea, spoke to him as well via Pep and Conte but the Saints are clearly fine with that.

Now if we did anything wrong which I doubt then we need to take whatever punishment we get and assume that the VVD deal is dead. And if we didn't then Saints will be looking like desperate people who are just Salty cos VVD chose us which means less money for them.

4.) 06 Jun 2017 16:08:17
Can't work like that Zimbo. We'd have never bothered unless his agent sounded us out.
Also if we want say Moreno to go, we'd like his agent to see what's out there. Moreno isn't listed, not sure transfer list even exists anymore.

Also most clubs don't want to sell their players, not going to speak to anyone otherwise.

Good morning, Ed001

I hope you are well this morning. Just finished watching the Klopp post match interview - it was interesting to hear his reasoning around bringing Shaqiri off (tactical reasons and not due to injury) .

What stood out for me though was his comment on Milner. He illuded to the fact that it wasn't ideal to bring Milner on as he has played so much recently and it's starting to take its toll, if that's the case then why didn't Klopp bring Fabinho on? He is a defensive minded midfielder and could there have been a better game for Fabinho to dip his toes into premier league football? 3-0 playing a weaker team and at Anfield (so Fabinho could experience the Anfield crowd in a competitive game for the first time) .

I'm interested to know your thoughts.

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed001's Note - then you are bringing in another player who has not played much, having to reshuffle even more to fit him in. It was about going back to the familiar so the players knew their roles and could play to their strengths. Bringing in Fabinho moves Henderson out of position, which means you have a new player learning a position in the vital role just in front of the back 4. Putting in Milner meant everyone knew exactly what they were doing.}

1.) 23 Sep 2018 05:40:38
That's a fine point, Ed01.

I think the fans, me included, were just excited and can't wait to see any new players play.

We just have to wait then.

{Ed001's Note - I am used to the days when you barely saw new signings. I still remember how shocking it was when Dalglish brought in Beardsley and Barnes and they were both straight into the first team. Players used to go into the reserves usually for at least 6 months.}

2.) 23 Sep 2018 06:14:09
Haizan, I think you hit the nail on the head.

Me wanting Fabinho on was definitely a case of my thinking with my heart and not my head. I’m desperate to see what the lad can do on the pitch in a Liverpool shirt.

Have you got big hopes for the lad, Ed001?

Red Sandman.

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, but not immediately. I watched him a lot for Monaco and was not impressed with him at all initially in midfield. The season they won Ligue 1 he was ok but I would have been disappointed if we signed him on the back of the year. He was all over the place positionally, you could tell he was new to the role and he struggled at times. Last season however he started off better and grew even more into it, with the increased pressure and responsibility on his shoulders as they sold off their key assets, and remembering he had been told he could leave for two summers in a row only for them to change their mind, his attitude was excellent. He changed my mind about him. That is why I was excited when we signed him, but I am not expecting him to jump straight in and be brilliant. He will take time.}

3.) 23 Sep 2018 06:20:01
Very true that Ed mate, I remember them days too! (old buggers) . As much as I'm looking forward to seeing Fabinho play and seeing more of Shaqiri, it must be admired what Klopp is doing, he's making sure they are ready before just throwing them in! and that seems to be quite rare these days, it's far too easy to just go ahead and play a new player immediately.

Certain fans can be toxic, if we played Fabinho from day one and he was terrible, by this point we'd have people questioning the club for buying him! it's best to be patient and let the club help him out until he's ready, I'm sure we'll see plenty of him in time when he's ready.

Who knows he may well get a game on Wednesday? I think Milner and or Hendo needs to be rested for next Saturday.

{Ed001's Note - when the team is winning and playing well as a team, the last thing it needs is wholesale changes and new boys to integrate. When form dips or injuries come along, that is when the noobs will get their chances.}

4.) 23 Sep 2018 09:23:11
In mourinhios last league title with chelsea i remeber he bought filipe louis at full back a big money big name signing who is doing well at athletico.

He hardly played him all season and was sold back to athletico the season after.

What I got from that is you don't want to change a winning formula just cause you have a new player and that sometimes players don't work out in this league.

5.) 23 Sep 2018 09:45:17
I am not overly worried by his absence, he and the other new boys will get their chances. Its also smart from klopp, because when we get to xmas and the congested fixture list during and just after. We will have fresh players who know their role better from extended training who will be motivated to prove themselves.

Im still waiting for keita to really prove his worth, who i think is playing within himself.

Ed002 I would love your opinion on a matter if you are around.

I appreciate you are no longer going into specifics on clubs transfer targets, but on the whole (across the major European leagues) is the concensus that this summer will match or even exceed the spending of last summer?

Can you see transfer records being smashed again this year or was last summer very much a one off?

Many thanks in advance, and as always I really appreciate your time and effort into engaging with us on the site.

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed002's Note - Last summer was not a one off and records will likely fall due to the increased monies available in England and some clubs looking at very significant rebuilds over the next couple of years. Italy and Spain other than the top three sides are struggling rather finacially and one or two reasonably high-profile sides critically. Clubs also have to watch for FFP and particularly over the wages (two EPL sides were caught out in January) - all of which needs to be taken in to account.}

29 May 2018 03:19:38
Out of nowhere we signed Fabinho?

That was unexpected.

Pleasantly unexpected.

Him and Keita will add a nice bit of extra quality (and in my opinion quality above what we already have) to our midfield three.

Plus he can play right back? This is almost too good for my poor little heart to handle.

Ed001,

Hope you are well and enjoying the weather out here in Dubai as it starts to get hotter and hotter by the day.

I think I speak for most when I say you recent article on the awards for the season (best player, best goal etc) was one of your best articles to date. Had me struggling not to laugh out loud while I was reading it at my desk at work.

Would you consider doing another one on the polar opposite? The worst players, worst signings, worst moments etc of the season?

What do you think?

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed001's Note - I could do that, we would need categories for the editors to vote on, but I am sure they will be happy to do so once we figure them out.}

1.) 23 Apr 2018 14:41:41
I think I could offer quite a few negative awards.

2.) 23 Apr 2018 14:16:13
I'd love that. Ed you could do a few from:

Worst player

Worst new signing

Worst manager

3.) 23 Apr 2018 15:08:40

{Ed001's Note - interesting ideas, though you seem to have awarded one already!}

4.) 23 Apr 2018 15:09:16
And maybe worst stadium atmosphere.

{Ed001's Note - difficult one to do without sampling all the atmospheres as the TV companies will turn the sound up or down to suit their needs.}

5.) 23 Apr 2018 15:15:17
can I put forwards:

worst player of the season?

worst signing of the season?

worst team performance of the season?

biggest cheat of the year?

worst moment of the season?

player who's reputation has been hit the hardest?

6.) 23 Apr 2018 15:23:15
Worst pundit seems to be one that could be closely contested.

{Ed001's Note - I will have a chat with the other editors over the next few days to decide which ones we will use and then put together an article.}

7.) 23 Apr 2018 15:30:55
Great suggestion Red Sandman, I look forward to this.

{Ed001's Note - he just wanted to ensure I didn't get to go out and see the sunshine!}

8.) 23 Apr 2018 15:39:28
worst referee? will be many candidates.

{Ed001's Note - that could well be given as a joint award to the lot of em!}

9.) 23 Apr 2018 16:19:35
Diver of the season? (La*cough*mela. )

10.) 23 Apr 2018 16:23:08

Worst ref that's impossible such a long list I think we have the worst refs for a very long time at the moment.

18.) 23 Apr 2018 19:39:11
Worst goal is clearly harry kanes self claimed goal.

19.) 23 Apr 2018 19:54:05

Hi Ed0333,

I saw one of your earlier replies about you posting a good story about Roy Wilkins a few days back on the Man Utd page so I went looking for it and copied it below so that others could read it's briliance. Thank you for share 0333. He really does sound like he was a class act.

{Ed0333's Note - Hear hear 666. Years ago I went to watch Liverpool play Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Rd. The game will be remembered for a young Les Ferdinand causing the Liverpool defense a myriad of problems, John Barnes making a long awaited comeback from a serious injury and for me it was for Ray Colin Wilkins. Not because he was particularly good that night in fact he was pretty dire, he was at the end of his playing career so there was mitigating circumstances for his performance. The traveling Kop was in full voice and giving QPR offensive players verbals. It was late in the game and QPR got a corner, Butch picked up the ball near the our goal and went towards the flag to take the corner thousands of people gave him a piece of their mind. Butch looked at the Liverpool supporters and just said 'Gentlemen, please show some class'. Everyone just shut up and acted like naughty little school boys who had been scolded. He said 5 words and silenced a whole away section. That was the measure of the man. Even though he had made his name with the arch enemy he commanded so much respect. He is a true legend of the game and I truly hope he pulls through and has a long and healthy life.

Red Sandman

{Ed0333's Note - thankyou for reposting that anecdote Sandman I appreciate it. 61 is no age for someone to pass. RIP Butch.

I feel bad for Ojo. His loan to Fulham hasn’t worked out for a number of reasons. Firstly he has been unlucky with injuries and secondly he has struggled to displace a certain Ryan Sessengnon who regularly now plays as part of the front three for Fulham.

I think he needs to be sent on loan to a team that will view him as a key player for next season or we just let the lad continue his careeer elsewhere.

I have season tickets at Fulham and have watched this lad a lot (although less this year as I’ve been based in Dubai the past few months) .

I don’t think he is what we need. He is absolutely lightning fast but his delivery is just so so so poor. The number of times this season and last that he has been released down the right flank, beats his man for pace, and all his has to do is do a simple cross. but 9/ 10 he fluffs it up. It’s beyond frustrating to say the least! I would advise we look elsewhere.

Surely it won't happen then?

Fair enough if some reporter is of the opinion it will happen, but if RB don't want to sell him in January, and Liverpool aren't willing to pay the required amount to get him in January then it feels like he won't come.

Haha I would love to think that I am posh but luckily my firm are taking care of my housing. I think they are doing it as they felt quite bad for essentially forcing me to move all the way out to Dubai from london!

I know they say that history often it repeats itself but let's not go rolling over and writing off the league just yet!

Lets just enjoy the good times. I know we didn't win in 08/09 or 13/14 but remember how enjoyable it was watching those games? IT was an absolutely incredible time to be a supporter of Liverpool!

There is a long way to go this season and who knows what it may bring. let's just enjoy things one game at a time and hope for the best.

Hi Ed001

I think I speak for a lot when I saw that the doctor topic and his "unorthodox" methods would make for a cracking article by you.

I would love for you to add that to the list of articles to do if you have the time?

Thanks

So what’s your point?

Why the interest in money?

What ever happened to the days of football just being about the football?

It’s the same with the obsession over the actual costs of the transfers. Why does it really matter?
