Question for eds (if you have the time) and reds.

This season we were a third tier team in the champions league (I think) which seems weird seeing as we made the final.

When will it be decided what tier Liverpool will be in next season? Will winning or not winning the league make a difference, and what other factors are considered?

Robbiesline

{Ed002's Note - Winning league or CL will be pot 1 - else pot 2 or 3 depending on ranking and who else qualifies.}

1.) 05 Feb 2019 07:30:57
The pot you go in is based on European performance over the last 5 years I believe? But if you win the league or champions league you automatically go in pot 1. We were on the cusp of pot 2/ 3 this year so at a guess I think if we beat Bayern that will probably bump us up into pot 2 but a lot has to do with who qualifies.

No word of a lie, I saw timo werner near wlva rd. In a grey mazzarati. God knows why. Reckon he will be a liverpool player next year.

Robbiesline

1.) 02 Feb 2019 20:40:09
Or Everton?

2.) 02 Feb 2019 20:43:47
Think he was supposed to go to Blackpool.

3.) 03 Feb 2019 10:29:48
Timo was in a grey Walter Mazzarri? Got nothing against it, but I didn’t know Walter had gone grey already. But if he is signing, then it’s good to know he’s enjoying the sights and attractions of Liverpool already. 👍.

4.) 03 Feb 2019 18:50:01
‘God knows why’ 😂😂.

Hi ed02 (or anyone, eds or reds)

Do we still have interest in the young full back from Bristol City?

Robbiesline

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new.}

1.) 10 Jan 2019 10:13:36
i very much doubt they would sell him mid season! potentially one for the summer but i imagine most big clubs would be looking at him, having a very good season!

2.) 10 Jan 2019 10:18:17
Lloyd Kelly could be a very smart purchase, he’s a big, quick, mobile, a good defender and a good footballer (he dominates players who are a lot older than him) . He can also cover left back comfortably as well as centre back. To my mind he looks like he has the ability to step up, the same way Rob Jones did.

3.) 10 Jan 2019 10:41:52
Id take another rob jones alright!

I enjoyed the post about the player we were most excited about.

Which player were you least excited about. And I mean senior players who were widely known.

Charlie Adams has to have a shout. Konchesky. Stefan hencoz can you believe but he turned out amazing.

Alot of those players from the houllier era. Camara, who did quite well. Eric myer. Wester eld who also did okay. And hypia, I was like "who is this guy? " but he turned out to be one of the 3 best cbs I've seen at the club and I'm 37.

Robbiesline

1.) 17 Mar 2019 14:09:49
Least exited? Hmm, Mignolet. We sold Reina and replaced him with Sunderland GK who didn't had good personal record at all.

Missed the most exited. Salah and Sahin. Those two had me flying all around for some reason. I was also exited about Ballotelli as I had a feeling he will shine, how wrong was I.

2.) 17 Mar 2019 17:00:05
Most
Barnes
Houghton
Suarez

Least
Konchesky
Konchesky
Konchesky.

3.) 17 Mar 2019 17:02:20
I was least excited when we signed Joe Cole. Great player with Chelsea and just the type of player we needed. We signed Joe when he was 29 and he should have been in his prime but it was obvious before he left Chelsea that his best days were well behind him. Injuries didn’t help him either. A shame because he came across as a nice lad.

4.) 17 Mar 2019 17:16:56
Least excited? I'd have to say James Milner, and I'm so happy that I was proved wrong. I thought he was bit past it, and I'd lost faith in Brendan Rodgers by that point.

5.) 17 Mar 2019 17:19:09
Lambert for me.

6.) 17 Mar 2019 17:28:07
Least excited? Rickie Lambert - lovely guy and a Liverpool fan but it immediately told me all I didn’t want to know about Brodge’s plans for the future. a target man CF which represented s massive departure from the Suarez/ Sturridge/ Sterling fluid attacking play of the 13/ 14 season. Unfortunately the premonition was proven correct by the subsequent signing of Benteke.

7.) 17 Mar 2019 17:34:24
Least excited - Poulsen
Most excited - Torres as I can't remember when the news broke about John Barnes signing.

8.) 17 Mar 2019 18:01:21
Oh wow, there were a few, especially with houllier and Benitez. Mark Gonzalez, kromkamp.

9.) 17 Mar 2019 18:47:49
Ballotelli for me. Someone mentioned Lamber, I was really hopeful for him, I really wanted him to do well.

10.) 17 Mar 2019 19:08:38
Most
would have to be Allison. I was so excited to replace Migs with him.
Least would be Konchesky.

11.) 17 Mar 2019 20:10:50
Alonso was someone I had never heard of til he signed. By the end of his spell at anfield, I thought he was our best player, even with Gerrard and torres.

I can't believe he went because Rafa wanted Barry. Still love Rafa though, and I think that's when our spine of that era felt it was time for them to go too.

Another mention has to be Gini, I couldn't see where he would play for us at the time. Glad I was wrong on that 1 and he's someone I feel that just gets better and better when competition is added to the squad.

12.) 17 Mar 2019 20:30:58
Jovanovic, rodriguez (i seem to recall him scoring 2 hatricks in a row? ) How has nobody mentioned assaidi.

13.) 17 Mar 2019 20:48:08
Who remembers Mkscouser aka ynwaadams essays about signing Lambert at the time. Where has 5 years gone?

14.) 17 Mar 2019 21:33:01
I remember Kewell coming out and announcing he was joining us. can't recall if he supported us before the move but I really thought he could make a difference. How disappointing did that one turn out. Morientes was another sadly under achieving hope. Lastly was Torres and at least he delivered on the pitch. Shame about the exit but good timing on our part except for the replacements😩.

15.) 18 Mar 2019 01:16:29
SEAN DUNDEE.

16.) 18 Mar 2019 19:44:31
Josemi or Borini or Antonio Nunez. Can't decide really.

14 Mar 2019 10:06:00
Bit of fun. Who is our player of the season. Top three.

For me its
Mane
Van dijke
Fabhino.

Salah has been great but we were given so much last season this season he seems not quite as good although he is the premier league top goal scorer. Mane and salah equal on goals now though.

I have to say, I haven't seen it mentioned but salah's ball for mane's 2nd was sheer class. If it was Messi or Ronaldo the pundits would be raving about it.

Robbiesline

1.) 14 Mar 2019 10:38:50
Van Dijk
Mane
Fair few fighting over 3rd spot-Salah, Gini, Alisson, Fabs.

2.) 14 Mar 2019 10:40:42
I’d have to go with

Van Dijk.
Gomez ( before the injury he was absolute class next to Van Dijk ) .
Wijnaldum.

Fabino has been great but Wijnaldum has played much more through the season.

3.) 14 Mar 2019 10:41:25
For me, in this order it'd be:-

1. Allison
2. Vvd
3. Fabinho.

4.) 14 Mar 2019 11:07:02
Sorry but salah is second top as aguero has one more.

5.) 14 Mar 2019 11:25:01
1)VanDijk
2)Mane
3)Salah.

6.) 14 Mar 2019 11:34:12
Totally agree with Salah the poster and in that exact order, it's amazing the impact of Allison on our season supported by probably the best defender in the world. As for the forwards Salah still up there his goal and assists record for this season is incredible.

7.) 14 Mar 2019 11:43:43
Despite a brief dip in form earlier this year, I would have Robbo in there.

For me:

1 Virgil Van Dijk.
2. Mane.
3. Robbo.

So many options to choose from which is great. Salah, Gomez, Gini Allison and Fabinho could all easily be in there and I wouldn't disagree.

8.) 14 Mar 2019 11:49:43
1. VVD
2. Mane
3. Wijnaldum or Fabinho.

9.) 14 Mar 2019 12:49:35
Yeah I forgot about gini. His game is so easily overlooked. He has been amazing this season and I may have to change my three

Mane
Vvd
Gini.

10.) 14 Mar 2019 13:45:19
1. Big Virg
2. Mane
3. Wiji

Honourable mentions to Allison (if Wiji hadn't improved so much, he would have made the list), Milner (early season Milner was an absolute beast! ) and Robbo (I think the players AND fans react positively to his work rate and determination) . Salah is a tough one, as he's playing against 3 defenders all the time, but just doesn't make the cut this season.

11.) 14 Mar 2019 17:29:28
Has to be Virgil.
He has brought the meaning of the word defence back to our defence. I know he's not out there on his own BUT one loss in the league would not have happened without him being the monster he is.

12.) 14 Mar 2019 19:29:37
Van Dijk
Alisson
Mane/ Gini.

13.) 15 Mar 2019 06:13:26
I agree Ron. Van Dijk has been Mr. Consistent and the game looks easy when he plays it.
I keep thinking back to Alisson’s save against Napoli and if he didn’t make that, we would not have this exciting quarter final draw to look forward to!
Gini has kept it mostly simple, but he’s played more consistently this season. Mané though, on his day, is just unplayable.

10 Mar 2019 14:32:58
Bit of fun. Fabhino or mascherano. Then does fab have the potential to get near souness's level in the next 5 years.

Robbiesline

1.) 10 Mar 2019 14:50:45
Fabinho all day long and yes.

2.) 10 Mar 2019 14:58:32
Fabinho's better than Masch.

Mascherano was a good player for us (sometimes I think a little bit of revisionism goes on about that), but Fabinho is as effective defensively with less fuss and fewer last ditch tackles, and uses the ball better.

Souness' level? A bit premature at this stage, let's not forget that Souness was *really* good. But definitely I think Fab has Hamann in his sights.

3.) 10 Mar 2019 14:59:37
Hopefully Fabinho will be better than Masherano. As for getting to near Souness's level absolutely zero chance and that's being extremely kind.

4.) 10 Mar 2019 15:09:05
Soybeans was a monster of a player, he was an incredible footballer who could pass, score, get forward and defend, he never lost a battle, you’d take him on and lose. Best centre midfielder we’ve ever had and the best I’ve ever seen. Period. As for Fabinho, he’s a better footballer than Masch by miles as he has a good range of passing and can shoot, two things you could never accuse Mascherano of being able to do.

{Ed025's Note - food for thought at least.. :)

5.) 10 Mar 2019 15:11:40
Fabinho for me. Don’t forget Masch played next to Alonso and Stevie in thier prime.

6.) 10 Mar 2019 16:57:07
Soybeans was a tasty midfielder.

{Ed025's Note - and got the pulses running..

7.) 10 Mar 2019 17:23:21
Masch had Alonso and Gerrard. Probably the best midfield in the world at the time. If Fab had these two he'd be even better so Fab for me also!

8.) 10 Mar 2019 17:36:20
Mascherano used his work rate to cover for a lot of his deficiencies.

Fab reads the game better and is a better passer.

9.) 10 Mar 2019 18:40:28
Spot on, Ron. Fab doesn't even have to run around aimlessly covering for his and others' mistakes like Masche used to do. He reads the game so well that he barely even has to make a tackle. There's the proof, right there.

As the great Paulo Maldini once said, "I considered making a tackle, as failure to do my job".

10.) 10 Mar 2019 20:47:34
Fabinho without a doubt, simply because he is a better all round player. Better on both the defensive and offensive skill set and his height is a definite advantage.

Souness? Oh please. Fabinho has yet to even complete an entire year with LFC yet. Don't even dare to ask about a comparison yet.

11.) 11 Mar 2019 13:43:03
I know the souness thing is very premature but the question was does he have the potential.

I agree with you though, fab way better than masch, who was a very good player for us.

I think fab will be considered the best in the league by the end of next season if not the one after.

07 Mar 2019 01:32:22
Utd will beat city. I feel sure of it.

Robbiesline

1.) 07 Mar 2019 06:23:43
In a very small straw pole of Man U fans I know, the overwhelming (not even a majority) feedback is they’d rather Citeh win the title than us, so they won’t be too disappointed if they get beat.

To be fair if it was the other way round, I’d be thinking the same. As they’ve now got a real chance of third or fourth that could be a real bonus for us in the way they approach the game. ie not like PSG last night!

2.) 07 Mar 2019 07:01:26
If United beat City in the prem I swear to god I will support United for the whole of next season!

{Ed025's Note - it wont be easy getting a season ticket george.. :)

3.) 07 Mar 2019 07:05:15
I think it'll be a draw.

4.) 07 Mar 2019 07:42:53
1 game at a time gents, it’ll mean nothing if we don’t keep up the pressure.

5.) 07 Mar 2019 07:45:15
Let's be real here. United are far from assured of a top 4 spot so they are going to have to try and win the game. Let's hope that they don't overturn Arsenal in the meantime so the last couple of CL spots are competitive.

6.) 07 Mar 2019 08:07:55
I'd rather you didn't win the title but we will be going at City, don't worry about that.

And if you do win it then you will deserve it and I'll happily pop back and say well done.

7.) 07 Mar 2019 08:27:09
Nice one AJH.

8.) 07 Mar 2019 08:41:51
Doesn’t matter now! We got to beat Spurs and Chelsea at home which seems unlikely!

{Ed025's Note - why is that unlikely harry?, city beat chelsea 6-0 the other week and spurs have lost twice in the last couple of weeks, i expect the reds to win both of them games to be honest mate..

9.) 07 Mar 2019 08:53:59
Both would face us with CL place hanging on their head! We haven’t been convincing against either of them earlier and that’s my reason to believe we will drop points.

{Ed025's Note - chelsea are actually in the europa but thats even more reason why they will be more vulnerable mate..

10.) 07 Mar 2019 09:16:10
Chelsea need a top 4 finish or Sarri is getting the boots and they are very capable to hold us at Anfield.
Spurs are a very able side. No idea which spurs would turn up at Anfield. This is not a guaranteed 6 pointer.
And we have to win every games form now on!

11.) 07 Mar 2019 10:55:07
It doesn’t matter about City thrashing Chelsea, when Aguero is playing that is normally what happens.
Our record at home to Chelsea has absolutely stunk since the turn of the century. We have 6 league wins against them at Anfield since 2000, so basically from 19 attempts. They could be 19th in League Two and still find a way to steal a win or, at the very least, an undeserved draw. Hazard usually has a stormer at Anfield as well.
Terrified of that game.

12.) 07 Mar 2019 10:58:50
Nice one AJH, on a different note seriously well done last night. Great result.

13.) 07 Mar 2019 21:42:31
Im with ajh on this one lads i hope to god Liverpool don't win the title but i hope to god ww bit city we have a fight on our own hands to get top 4.
Ill be first one on here to say well done. Nobody flukes a league win if you win it you will have earned it.
Ive no idea which way it will end up but i think both sides will drop more than 6 points on the run in.
If you find your early session form you should win it but city won't let you stumble over the line.

14.) 07 Mar 2019 23:56:47
Fingers crossed Robbie but a lot of ball to be played before then.

15.) 07 Mar 2019 23:58:05
I'd love a draw salah.

16.) 08 Mar 2019 00:00:08
I think ole is the type of manager to try and win every game, so won’t hold back on them.

17.) 08 Mar 2019 00:01:37
Come off it mate with the negativity, no one is saying we're guaranteed to win them games but saying it's unlikely is not what a supporter should be feeling about his team.

23 Feb 2019 14:31:08
Never seen a player so inspire opposition fans. He was clapped of many pitches by both sets of fans. The Chelsea game stands out coz after utd and Everton, Chelsea had become our third rival.

What is markovic's problem? He came with a decent reputation, I've seen him play well once or twice. I'm surprised he never gets a look in.

Is he really that bad a player or is it something else.

I agree Bobby b, we aren't getting enough goals from midfield. FSG were obviously willing to finance the deal. I think he has proved the injury to his knee is not a major problem. Just like klopp and Liverpool to pull off a major signing towards the end of the window.

For me it was gabby batistuta who my dad's mate told me we'd signed, when he was right at the top of his game. It. He l we t me believe it for hours!

Torres
Vvd
Keita
Sturridge.

I didn't know much about suarez.

I saw mane play in his first friendly for us and I knew we had signed a game changer, a superstar in the making. Never watch Southampton so I didn't know how good he was.

Alisson also has to be worth a shout. Most expensive keeper in the world for a fortnight. Way, way better than kepa too! Also he has ears the work.

Spot on lfcb. It is an intimidating stadium for travelling fans and when playing the big pampered sides I think it shakes them up.

No way do I want to share a stadium with Everton. If a new stadium is built give it to them. Anfield has too many memories, both happy and devastatingly sad. YNWA 96.

Also we were top of the league by Miles and I don't think anyone wanted to change the dynamic of the dressing room. Not to mention we spent a fortune in the summer.

I believe fsg invested so much because of our progression last season. So I'm expecting some big signings again this summer. Especially if we miss out on the league.

I was calling for us to sign Sturridge way before any rumours started. Thought he'd be great and he was. Had the ability to become World class.

He is always going to score goals, he just knows where the net is and he can kick a ball as well as anyone. But he is not at our level anymore. The 30 yard chip, the curler in the europa league. He will do well at Leicester or wolves. His heart isn't in it anymore, although I will miss his celebration. It really pisses off the opposition. I think we need to offload in summer, at whatever cost.

Origi on the other hand I had written off completely last season. But he has something that none of our other players have in that position. Height, strength and speed, combined with a wicked shot. definitely a keeper for me. Its not like aguero or kane are going to come and sit on the bench. We need a young, talented forward to push mane and firmino and we have him on origi.

And he scores against the blues. For that alone keep him.
