If Liverpool fail in their pursuit of Ben Chillwell, they will turn to former Barcelona left-back, Juanma, who is currently on trial at the club.

The Mirror, report that the defender made his debut for the club's U21 side against Rhyl this weekend, and even laid on assist in the game, boosting his chances of earning a contract at the Anfield club.

Any chance you guys know anything about him? Also curious about the link to Presnel Kimpembe, if no one else has already mentioned him.

I've watched some games in some pretty obscure European leagues. I even watched a game in the Finnish league last season! But Spanish Youth Football?

If anyone is that dedicated to the game, and to armchair scouting, fair play! I bow to you.

2.) 25 Jul 2016 19:25:30
I was at the Rhyl Game, in the first-half Rhyl hardly got out of their half. Great assist by Juanma, he put it on a plate. 2nd half saw almost complete different team out and the game was less one sided although Liverpool were still dominant but just less clinical.

We won 1-4.

Kent and Wilson were class. Worth a watch for the price guys, good footy on show.

3.) 25 Jul 2016 19:28:34
Juanma will be playing for the U23s in PL2 if he joins the team, not for the senior squad.

4.) 25 Jul 2016 20:52:57
Fair point, AG. I wasn't expecting him to slot home as our starting left back, I was just looking for a comment about the player in general. Thanks Statto.

5.) 25 Jul 2016 21:11:54
I'm pretty sure he is a CB that can play at LB as well.

TV reporting that the medical is completed, Benteke will be in Liverpool today and a "slight administrative problem" is all that's holding up the transfer.

Excited about the new season and looking forward to Benteke leading the line for us.

I'm sure the Eds have already answered this multiple times, but I'd like to post Guillem Ballague's comments regarding Carlos Bacca:

". at the end of the season told Sevilla he would like a way out. Sevilla would like him to stay, but he does know there is interest from the Premier League and Italy.

"He likes the idea of coming to the Premier League, of course he has been abroad for a few years and would be happy to continue that progression abroad.

"Although Sevilla expect an offer, but it hasn't arrived yet."

Safe to assume that someone in the Premier League is going to attempt to prise him away from Sevilla, although I doubt we'd be able to tempt him without CL football, considering he just won the EL. Perhaps by the time the Copa is finished there will be offers on the table for him.

Maybe bacca is trying to stir up interest in a prem league team so he can get a nice little pay rise maybe?
Players agents leak this stuff to journos to try and drum up interest in them if they are looking to get out.

2.) 22 Jun 2015 21:05:59
The striker saga / suspense is killing me.

Be a suprise to buy a player over 27 for 20 million +

3.) 22 Jun 2015 22:02:11
Yeah, doesn't really fit with our typical transfers, but Aspas was right around 26-27, and Lambert, yeah. enough said. Linked with Llorente, Tevez, Gameiro and others that are 30ish, so I can't see why the money being talked about for Bacca isn't legit. Ronaldo, Messi, Griezmann, Neymar and then Bacca.

4.) 23 Jun 2015 08:08:38
Bacca ain't going to happen. Aubameyang please!

16 Jun 2015 15:33:13
Does Manchester City's move for Patrick Roberts from Fulham effect their interest in Sterling, or do they see him as one for the future and the "English quota"?

Amerigo

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Any Liverpool interest in Jacopo Sala? He's a player that's recently come to prominence after some injury struggles. He was coached by Rodgers when he was at Chelsea (and played with BR's son).

Seems to be the type of player we need - a bit of size on him, plays in a 4-3-3 and could do the job centrally, in attack or on the wing.

Amerigo

{Ed002's Note - There is certainly interest from England with West Ham and Sunderland and a suggestion that Spurs were looking at Sala when represented at a game recently - but I am not so sure about that.}

Great performance. Yes could have had more goals but for de gea but it's a solid result and will give us even more confidence in the run down. Best players and coach won the game.

With Skrtel ruled out through illness and Sakho not quite ready, it looks likely that Toure and Lovren will start a very important match against Bordeaux. I'm struggling to think who we played if they were to get injured. Lucas? Enrique?

Amerigo

1.) 25 Nov 2015 19:49:30
Can would be most likely. He would struggle but best for physicality unless we gave a youngster a shot?

2.) 25 Nov 2015 20:28:16
It will be Toure and Lovren, IMO as well.

3.) 25 Nov 2015 20:53:22
Sakho not there yet? I thought he was put for several months? Is this a holiday surprise?!?

4.) 25 Nov 2015 21:01:40
@lfcohio - Klopp said his injury "isn't too serious" like was first thought, but the club haven't given an estimated date for him to come back.

He's been back in the gym, but he's not in any of the training pics, so he's not that far along.

5.) 25 Nov 2015 23:46:15
I think i6-8 weeks was mentioned, whereas it was first thought to be 6 months. So when they say not as bad as first feared that's what they meant unless I'm mistaken.
Has to be can next in line though, but I'm sure skrtel will be back by the weekend and it won't be a problem.

6.) 26 Nov 2015 00:10:11
I believe Sakho is out until early Jan, I agree most likely Can would have to cover if any more injuries with Illori and Wisdom on loan and Gomez injured.

7.) 26 Nov 2015 10:25:27
Disagree force is in full effect this post, apparently nobodies playing centre half tonight.

I have watched both of Arsenal's games this season and can't understand everyone's lack of belief in our squad. Bournemouth beat West Ham, scoring four goals in the process, and West Ham beat Arsenal. Crystal Palace gave them a run for their money and Arsenal won on an own goal. Cech is nowhere near as good as Begovic or Courtois. Their defense is at least as shambolic as ours, if not more so, and they don't know what their best midfield pairing is either. There are a number of reasons to believe that we can go into the Emirates and get the maximum points, and I'll be hoping to see that result, rather than wishing for a draw like so many of our a fans. As an NFL Legend, Herm Edwards once famously said, "You play to win the game!"

Amerigo

1.) 24 Aug 2015 18:02:33
Did you not watch our last two games mate?

2.) 24 Aug 2015 18:31:42
EG: Yes, I did. We played two teams that fought with every ounce of their belief and strength. Stoke is a constant thorn in everyone's side and, as attested by their defeat of West Ham, Bournemouth is better than people are giving them credit for. Yet, for a few Coutinho misses, we would have cruised past Bournemouth. Every one of the top teams has struggled thus far with the obvious exception of City, who look clear cut favorites to win the league. My point is not that we're bound to win, but that we shouldn't play for a draw even in an away game, and fans that are saying they will be 'delirious' with happiness at a draw are simply boggling my brain.

3.) 24 Aug 2015 18:40:09
Arsenal is certainly better than the two teams we played so far.

Lallana has looked particularly good this preseason and I honestly think once Sturridge returns we have an excellent front line. Impressed w/ Origi today as well. We look a lot more defensively sound with Clyne dooen the right as opposed to Manquillo and Johnson. Can't wait to see Benteke and Firmino playing with these guys. Excellent business this window even if Bentekes fee was high. I believe in this team. Helsinki are good competition.

1.) 01 Aug 2015 22:22:50
I just think he's wasted in the position he's in. He's best behind a striker. Out wide he offers so little because he's got no pace.

2.) 02 Aug 2015 08:28:48
Where would that leave Coutinho and Firmino, both of whom play best behind the striker. If Rodgers sticks to 3 central midfielders, I think all 3 of them will play the majority of their football out wide.

3.) 02 Aug 2015 09:45:24
Coutinho plays best coming from the left. He's in effective through the middle just look at his goals on a highlights package they all come from cutting in from the left.

14 Jul 2015 15:51:37
Really impressed with Ings and Origi's displays even though they haven't scored. Lots of energy, and Origi could have had a hat trick in 10 minutes with a bit more luck.

Also thought Texieira and Gomez played well. Haven't seen much of the second half here at work, but I'm also excited to see Henderson and Milner as mainstays in our side. Lallana looking ready for this coming season.

Of course, we're playing a Thai 11 but I'm feeling really positive about our new players' first impacts.

Yes, he's a powerful player with electric pace, but I've heard he blacks out the night before games and has meltdowns in training.

To be fair, he wasn't bad against Tottenham and even looked like he has learned a lesson or two. Nothing to suggest he takes his position back, but give credit where it's due. He certainly wasn't woeful.

I would like to see Trent down the left. Not sure if he's technically suited for it but it's an option if we lose Moreno or Milner due to injury. Gomez is not quite there but was impressive before his injury so I have high hopes for him.

As much as I'd like to have a young, exciting American at the club, I don't know where he'd find the minutes right now. I could see one of Coric or Pulisic coming in next season if we are in the Champions League, but definitely not mid-season.

Lucas deserves to see out the campaign with us and decide his future in the summer. He can contribute in two areas, so unless we think Gomez is fully fit and Stewart is our best defensive midfield option, I think we should keep him.

I think we should start him versus Southampton. Bit of a test for him, but Lallana and Henderson both played big minutes this week as well. Seems to me he could handle the pressure.

If we lost Coutinho I would try to bring in Mahrez for the left and/ or spend the lot on Aubameyang. Klopp, however, would probably spend it better than me on three or four players I've never heard of (that ultimately win us the league! )

When Gerrard had the same level of talent around him that Henderson has currently, he was one of the best in the world. That only happened briefly in his career - early on with Houllier, then with Rafa, Alonso and Torres and then with Suarez, which was the team I really thought would win the league for us (coincidentally, missing Henderson through suspension really hurt us in the end) . Gerrard actually took a backseat that season, and we nearly went all the way.

Comparing the two is extremely unfair on one of them, although, by the end of Henderson's career, he may be able to live up to Gerrard. He could go a long way toward doing that by leading the team to a premier league title this year!
