Ed1 what is your opinion on all the "news" that Slot is now staying for next season.
Do you see this as what is going to happen or is this just the club posturing?
To me it looks like ego and the club saving face, they won't sack Slot as he was their man, but he clearly is not settled in England and his family won't move over, i assume at the end of the season it will be "Slots" decision to leave, on the basis he wants to return home.
The club "expect" him to stay, but again if that's the case why is there no talk of a contract extension, i know the club in recent times have allowed contracts to run down so it may signal further inept management in doing so, but to me it reflects the current situation, they won't sack Slot to save face.
I am not bothered who is right and who is wrong, things change in football, but as someone with ties to the club what's your opinion on what you have heard?
{Ed001's Note - I don't look at any of it as it is just propaganda nonsense these days.}
21 Apr 2026 14:46:13

"The club "expect" him to stay, but again if that's the case why is there no talk of a contract extension".
@Kloppo, that is your cue to not pay attention to what anyone is saying as it is not backed by any actual actions like you know, a contract extension. If "they back Slot" so much then, where's that at?
Just ignore the propaganda rubbish and wai and see what actually happens at the end of the season where actions will actually happen. Then we will know. Not before.

If I judged them on how well they actually played in the games I've watched in the flesh then it would have to be:
Alisson (2023-26)
Trent (2023-25)
Skrtel (2012-16)
Virgil (2023-26)
Kerkez (2025-26)
Lallana (2015-16)
Henderson (2012-16)
Coutinho (2012-16)
Salah (2023-26)
Firmino (2015-16)
Sterling (2012-15)
I didn't manage to get to a game between 2017-2022 due to my inability to put on a condom in my early 20's.
So sadly I missed out on seeing the likes of Matip, Fabinho and Mane in the flesh. Every game I've been to where I've seen them play Robertson, Gerrard, Sturridge and Suarez were diabolical, so although I've seen them play in the flesh, it's very hard for me to include them in this team!

Alisson, Robertson, Van Dijk, Matip, Trent, Gerrard, Fabinho, Henderson, Mane, Firmino, Salah.
I saw Suarez live, and I've always thought he is incredibly talented but not breaking that front. Three that combined perfectly.
Xabi Alonso was one of my favourite Liverpool players and would definitely make my team but I never saw him live.
Carra, I thought about but I always thought Matip did well enough with VVD. I went with the tried and tested on that one.
That's my live list. I would change a few if I could include players I didn't see live.

21 Apr 2026 18:13:36
Like I said lads, not the team I'd pick normally but the post said "in the flesh" and those are the players who've stood out in games where I was at the ground! In a normal world where I can include what I've seen on TV, Skrtel, Kerkez and Lallana aren't getting anywhere near the team! But my LB choices were basically a washed Robertson, Enrique or Moreno. My CB choices were Konate, Lovren, Sakho, Toure or Skrtel. In midfield I could've gone with Dom or Gerrard over Lallana but honestly in the games where I was at the ground Lallana was just better than they were. Gerrard was about 34 the one time I saw him play and he got bullied bad. Dom I've seen a few times but he had a shocker all 3 times! I just tried to stay true to the OP's criteria!
We're not all blessed with watching Liverpool 30 times a season haha! But it's a fair comment that if I picked that team as our best XI since 2012, I'd need my head checked. Alisson, Virgil, Trent, Salah, Firmino and Hendo are probably fair but the rest get nowhere near a best XI since then if I ignore the criteria!

It does show you that nobody is in sparkling form at this point in the season though. If we were to win our extra game over them, we'd have taken the same amount of points as Arsenal and only one less than Bournemouth who are on a 13 match unbeaten run.
Not claiming we're doing well btw, just shows the toll of the season on every team, apart from Man Utd who only started their season when Carrick took over!

Morning folks,
I understand it has been done to death but question to Ed's, Carra, Robbo or Fields.
If Arne and LFC have agreed to part ways in the Summer why is the "Slot to see out his contract" narrative from Ornstein and co being but out there? It seems adamant! Has something changed?
21 Apr 2026 09:54:27
Questions have been asked about the manager's future due to poor results. The club and the journos close to it are going to spin a positive attitude. They are hardly going to say we are parting ways and name the manager.
Just wait until May. If he's still in the job, then we as fans must suck it up and have fingers crossed. Main thing is getting Champions League secured.
Agree2
21 Apr 2026 09:55:18
Without wanting to disrespect either of those guys, as they have provided excellent information, I am becoming increasingly convinced that Slot will be here next season.
There were heavy leaks in the summer. Isak was called on this site before anywhere else, but I personally believe those leaks have been plugged.
Either that, or Slot is the best actor of all time. He is not speaking or behaving like a man who has been told he is out of a job in a month.
Just my opinion, would be happy to be wrong at this point as I am bored to death of the football at the moment.
Agree6
21 Apr 2026 10:04:14
Any manager trying to instill their ideas and philosophy into any club when those players know he's into the last 12 months of his contract is facing an uphill battle.
If Slot does stay, then surely putting him in that position is just asking for trouble.
There again, Palace and Bournemouth aren't doing too badly, and their players know their manager is off.
Only difference is, I suppose, that those teams' players seem to play for their manager, whereas ours look like they can't be bothered most weeks since October.
Agree3
21 Apr 2026 10:22:37
The priority for the remainder of the season for the club is Champions League qualification.
Until that is hopefully achieved, a united front is going to be portrayed to the media.
They're not going to have anything coming out from the club in any official capacity to state that the manager's job is to be reviewed or that a replacement is lined up.
I do believe Carra in saying that there will be a parting of the ways come the summer, and it could be very much a case of a mutually agreeable end to Slot's time at Anfield.
Until then, please stop reacting to every bit of "leaked" info from Journos as most don't know or are being told what to say.
Agree2
21 Apr 2026 11:59:35
Nothing has changed. Slot was never leaving. We were misled.
Agree1
21 Apr 2026 12:09:22
In any scenario, Ornstien is acting as a mouthpiece for the club to quiet the noise amongst the fans in an effort to unite and rally the troops behind Slot for the run in to help secure Champions League qualification. That's 100%, no doubt about it. Outside of that, there's 2-ish possibilities:
1. Xabi is/isn't nailed on and Slot is definitely leaving.
2. We can't get the Alonso deal done and Slot is staying/leaving/awaiting official review at the end of the season.
In any case, if Slot does leave and Xabi's not done, we will likely pursue Nagelsmann or Hoeness. Personally, I do feel talks with Xabi have stalled. I have said all along that I felt it was never a sure thing, and the potential power struggle with Hughes/Edwards could be an issue in securing him. I really hope I'm dead wrong.
Agree0
21 Apr 2026 12:41:25
I'm not an ITK... I'm an IK... and I know that we couldn't possibly continue with this manager, otherwise we'll be further down the table next season with a full more season of this tiresome football. No brainer really. I wouldn't be worried about him staying.
Agree2
21 Apr 2026 13:14:23
I don't remember any of the ITKs suggesting it's a done deal.
I remember one of them putting their neck on the line to make a prediction, but that's different to a source telling you he is gone.
Agree1
21 Apr 2026 13:31:23
Nothing has changed. As stated before, this is all about saving face for the trio, none want to admit they are wrong - Slot goes at the end of the season, it's all about getting him sympathy now for leaving.
Agree3
21 Apr 2026 18:23:01
Indeed, @Strom. i'm an IK on that topic, as well. This manager is no longer fit for purpose and as long as no contact extension is signed, I don't see where he is kept, end of. What other evidence do these people need to see except of course, they live in a bubble where mates are telling each other the same things.
In all days of watching sports, I have never seen a manager or head coach being kept into the very last year of his contract with no extention forthcoming in any sport I follow as in, Football, NFL, NBA and at a lesser level MLB.
This is why I think Ornstien is being a spoofer here even tho, I agree that he is putting out what the club want to be out.
Agree0
21 Apr 2026 19:49:12
Oli these reporters are definitely on some payroll, they all say the same things at the same time, Carragher now saying it n he hasn't got any inside knowledge, he slags the players off one minute n the praises them, the players wouldn't tell him anything

Ed01, the way you described the LFC performance, anyone who didn't watch the game did not miss a damn thing. Your description is enuff because it is what we have all been seeing for the whole season, roughly.
To that point, I was watching an LFC-related podcast and one of the guys was having a go at Wirtz for, "Not grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck" and all that jazz. The other guy response was that, "As a team, We are good at nothing".
So I ask you (cos I agree with the guy's response), what do you we have been good at this season under Slot's tactics? because I can't tell ya, mate.

Liverpool are exploring potential deals for Yan Diomande, Archie Gray, Adam Wharton, Bradley Barcola, and Denzel Dumfries according to various outlets.
I really hope all apart from Dumfries happen. Some young exciting players, to add some dynamism to our play.
Dumfries is a decent player, but is 30 yrs and has had injury issues recently.
We would be better pursuing someone like Kayode or Mukiele.
The thought of Diomande on the right and Barcola on the left would be something to get excited about next season.
Would like to see Endo replaced with a decent DM too.
Carra or any of the ITKs, is there any formal talks or contact with these players' agents already in progress?
21 Apr 2026 07:02:08
Sadiki should be in the conversation instead of Dumfries.
Sadly, I had dinner with a famous football writer recently, and he's convinced me that Slot will see out his contract, come what may, so I doubt any DM will be coming.
Agree4
21 Apr 2026 08:19:43
I can't see why Barcola would leave PSG. He gets good minutes there, he's a French player winning trophies in France every season, and also PSG would probably want well over £100m for him as he's 23 years old with 2 years still on his contract. I think it's pure fantasy linking us to the likes of Barcola and Olise. They're both settled at clubs where they are guaranteed success and gametime.
Excellent players, mind you, I just don't see it happening. Diomande (Leipzig), B. Toure (Hoffenheim), Minteh (Brighton), M.
Mane (Wolves) etc all feel like much more plausible signings. Also they're all the kinds of mid-range signings we've historically done very well with (S. Mane, Salah, Firmino, Jota, Diaz, Torres, Suarez etc). We don't tend to shop well at the other European super powers (J. Cole, Morientes, Thiago, Litmanen etc). The two exceptions in semi-recent memory were probably Sturridge and Coutinho, but they were low risk and not getting a look in at Chelsea/Inter so we got them cheap.
Agree4
21 Apr 2026 08:45:21
Barcola is stalling on signing a contract, MK, he doesn't start regularly and it's rumoured that PSG are looking at Diomande to replace him anyway.
Agree0
21 Apr 2026 09:27:41
PB, he may be stalling, but he still has two years left so he won't come cheap either way. We see this a lot where players posture and stall. It's all part of negotiations. He's also started for PSG in 57% of their Ligue 1 games and 86% of their Champions League games. So I wouldn't say he doesn't start regularly. He's started 30 games for them this season in all competitions. It's not like the Gravenberch at Bayern situation where he was actually only playing a few hundred minutes a season.
Barcola is still a key player for them. They just rotate their starting frontline in the Ligue 1 to keep them fresh for the Champions League.
Like I say, great player, would love him at Liverpool and hopefully the relationship he has at PSG really is deteriorating so we have a show at signing him, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Agree5
21 Apr 2026 09:39:25
Nah, not Mane for me, MKS. He reminds me of Baj when he was doing well in a dead LFC team and was getting good reviews (and rightfully so). When stuff got tough, he faded. Don't be fooled, my friend. These "midrange" signings aren't the players we need.
The comparison with getting such players (10 years ago) no longer applies here, and, to crown it all, those players then were levels above the ones you are mentioning now.
Mane was levels above Minteh, Mane (Wolves) and Barcola at the time we signed him, for ex. While Gray was nowhere near Gini nor Shaquiri either when we signed them. We need a lot better than these, IMO.
Just my opinion.
Agree0
21 Apr 2026 12:44:54
Gray is a very decent player, great attitude/very coachable, willing to play several positions and still incredibly young, so naturally there'd be a big financial upside to signing him. I don't think he's a generational talent or anything, but it's plain to see why he'd be an attractive option on the transfer market.
Agree1
21 Apr 2026 13:17:30
Gray has over 50 Prem games under his belt, having only recently turned 20. At the same age none of us knew who Wharton, for example, was. Think Gray will go on to be a very good player.
Agree1
21 Apr 2026 18:34:21
Flo & PB, I don't care how many games Gray or whoever has played because clearly, they ain't done much because I don't rate any of them in the games I have actually seen him and the others play. gray can go on to be a good player but let him go do that somewhere else because he ain't at the level, IMO.
The bottom line for me is that those aren't the players we need moving forward. And they (Gray, Minteh, Mane etc.) are nowhere near the levels of Mane, Gini, Shaq, even Salah were when we actually signed them as "midrange" players 10 years ago, a lifetime in football btw.
The level these players were when we signed them, are the level of players we need to be going for now. They may cost more but as midfrange players, that is the standard for me, ability-wise. These lot are low level scrubs compared to them. Just my opinion and I'm sticking with it. Cheers, lads.
That's my opinion.

With Wolves officially gone, I can think of one or two players I wouldn't mind getting my hands on if going cheap. Would be interested to know others' thoughts?

Only at the right price. I wasn't even that impressed with Gomes and Andre in the last few games I watched. They looked like they gave up.
I mean, going down was inevitable, but still.
I wouldn't pay huge amounts for them. I'd be interested in Gomes around 30-35 mill as I think he has just given up recently, and there's a good player there.
If 50 mill plus, as has been mooted, is too high for me.
Mane has potential, but the price again would need to reflect potential and not what he could become.
I think they will end up too expensive for what they are worth at this moment in time. Gomes is the pick of the bunch if price is reasonable.

Is that Mane any good? He looked young and raw against us, but I could potential.

The midfielder Gomez is the only one I would take. Mane? Sorry, he ain't the one for what we are trying to do next season potentially.

I'd take Joao Gomes from them. A tough defensive Brazilian with ball playing ability should please Slot also (if he's still there next season). Andre is too close to Gravenberch in footballing ability and only offers a rotational option, nothing really different.
