Ed001 John Barnes ruptured his Achilles tendon and was never the same again what is the prognosis nowadays is it much better.
I think it's one of the hardest tendons to heal because of blood flow there is not as great as other tendons.

{Ed001's Note - he should be ok, things are much better now with regards to that.}

15 Apr 2026 10:04:59
Good memory u have, Grino. I had forgot about Barnes injury. You're right, he lost that burst of pace he had and developed into a central midfielder after that.

15 Apr 2026 10:10:22
That was about 40 years ago, and medicine has come a long way, thankfully.

Agree4

15 Apr 2026 10:13:49
Achilles is physiologically hard to get over as you wonder if the other ankle will blow out. Let's hope he makes a full recovery.

In the dark days, just after Arsenal's last championship, the cure was to submerge your foot in horse placenta.

Agree2

15 Apr 2026 10:58:38
Yeah, recovery chances are good these days, but obviously not guaranteed.

I'm really gutted for Hugo, similar to Leoni. High hopes for a solid recovery, but there is always the chance that, at the least, there are some disruptions to their rehab. For sure we won't be seeing the best of Hugo until most likely the 2027/28 season.

But there are plenty of other athletes who have returned to or near their level prior to injury.

R9 in 2000 returned to win the 2002 World Cup and Golden Boot.

Beckham returned to European football, was it AC Milan or PSG at that time? And wasn't he mid-30s when he ruptured?

Cazorla had a longer period out of the game but returned to international level.

Dan Carter ruptured in 2014 then returned to win the Rugby World Cup in 2015. Yeyah, the All Blacks lol.

Kevin Durant took a full 18 months to return but has returned to his elite level.

Can be done, but maybe patience is the key. And a real shame him and the club. Mainly for him tho.

Agree4

15 Apr 2026 11:10:05
Probably didn't help John was a bit on the chunky side.

Agree5

15 Apr 2026 11:21:13
How dare you, Florian! John Barnes was not "chunky" he was just a well proportioned man bordering on curvaceous haha.

All the best to Hugo though, gutted for the young lad to miss the World Cup.

Agree7

15 Apr 2026 11:58:48
He's certainly chunky now!! Still my hero.

Thoughts as always with all those affected by that horrible day 37 years ago.

All those who didn’t make it home, and their family and friends who had to deal with that unimaginable pain and grief.

All those who were never the same, and the people who have helped them with that struggle every day since.

Never, ever forgotten.

They have my sympathy, love, and best wishes.

Dear Mr Henry, please sort your staff out and get the red machine running smoothly once again!!!

Matchday 32 - Quick Round Up

15 Apr 2026 07:39:01
{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Matchday 32 - Quick Round Up

15 Apr 2026 07:08:41
“Much has been said that the club is in a transition. The club has sold eight or 10 players to make money to sign five or so very talented players. We have to sell to buy.

We are losing some players on a free transfer. It is a big challenge in the summer but the club has shown this model works.

As I said many times the future looks very good, especially if we can sign players after good players leaving this summer.”

Did anybody else not find this from slot a bit, er, odd?

15 Apr 2026 07:57:22
Looks like he's saying it as he sees it. It was an odd thing to get into, I could only take from it that he's on his way and felt like sharing some thoughts!

Agree1

15 Apr 2026 08:11:07
Just seen a piece by Mark Clattenberg there saying soft doesn't mean it's wrong in regards to the penalty. McAllister initiated the contact, and was hoping for the penalty, but to be fair, it was not a penalty. The PSG players should class regards Hugo injury, and the turning point of the game was the Marquinos tackle when Virgil thought he had scored, but we take it on the chin, move on from it, and batter the blue half of the city at the weekend.

Hope Rio gets a start soon. Kid was electric when he came on.

Agree5

15 Apr 2026 08:41:12
Isn't Slot just saying it as it is?

Agree2

15 Apr 2026 09:02:21
The turning point was starting Isak. He may be fit, but he was scared of getting broken.

Absolutely pointless and exposed the tactical acumen of Slot for what it is. The man is utterly clueless.

Then follows it up with the Joe Gomez substitution. Wth was that?

Agree5

15 Apr 2026 09:30:25
StEtienne, I'm sorry. Isak is not fit. No way he is fit enuff to start that type of game. Don't let yourself be fooled by this manager. This is all on Slot, and personally, I've had enuff of having enuff with this manager essentially ruining games for us even before they start.

I mean, how is it possible that Slot looks at the Fulham game, saw the front three in Salah, Gakpo and Rio (with Wirtz in the 10) play well together, score goals, and in a game where we need goals, throws them on the bench? Tell me, how does anyone with a functioning brain see that crap and say, "Nah, we're straight?"

Wait, it gets worse. Slot then takes Wirtz, who plays well in the 10 v Fulham, and now, plays him on the left like a winger. Our best creator is playing left wing alongside Isak, who is 45% fit, with an Ekiktike who has been poor for weeks now.

While playing a legless Macca for near 90 mins where he did next to nothing. Am I going insane here?

It just so happens that we were no threat in the first half and, ironically, the 3 he brings in that should have started, gave us a spark. Salah's first touch of the game created the biggest chance of the game. Wow, who knew?

Like I said, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired with the way this Slot guy ruins games for us from the off. He needs to be gone, and I don't care what he achieves or doesn't achieve. We cannot keep him cos we will be rewarding reprehensible behaviour, IMO. Approaching 20 losses this season and some (not you, SE) still wanna keep him if he gets CL? Not having it. If Slot is still here next season, we are well and truly screwed for next season.

Agree9

15 Apr 2026 09:47:37
Does Isak have a starting when fit clause? Seems utter madness to have played him.

Agree3

15 Apr 2026 09:52:06
Totally agree, Oli, ... This guy truly has no idea what he's doing, got no idea how he won the PL last season.

Agree4

15 Apr 2026 10:07:14
Every team in the league bar Villa must be in transition then as they bought just as many or more players than us in the summer.

Some have even had more than 1 manager this season, so surely they are in more transition.

Agree5

15 Apr 2026 06:54:42
We got battered by a far better team, no surprises here.
Slot is going at the end of the season, I do hope this is correct.
Alonso looks like our only option, Enrique will extend at PSG, Iraola wants to go back to his Basque roots, Hoeness is unproven.

MacAllister, Jones, Frimpong, Elliott must all be sold, nowhere near good enough for Liverpool.
Konate, let him go, we already have his replacement.

15 Apr 2026 08:01:57
Absolutely agree, half of our team just aren't up to it.

Mo tried when he came on, but watching him trying to run is actually quite sad when you remember the prime athlete he was. He needs a pair of Nordic walking sticks to get going.

Although Kerkez has improved a bit, he's still pretty raw as well, so you can add him to the yet to be decided list.

You can even add Ekitike to that despite promise earlier in the season.

We're in a difficult position. A derby is actually not a bad way to start to get out of it tbh.

Agree2

15 Apr 2026 08:12:27
I thought Kerkez was excellent yesterday, not sure why the jury is still out on him? Messed up a presentable chance maybe, but everything else about his game was very good.

Agree14

15 Apr 2026 08:21:28
These guys are bad footballers over one poor season. Get a new manager in, get them fit and see what's what.

Agree10

15 Apr 2026 09:27:22
You will not find a better squad player than Jones and Konate was one of the only players who performed yesterday. They would have been 2-0 up in the first half if not for him.

Frimpongs garbage imo tho not my kind of fb, couldn't make a single pass yesterday and was getting outpaced as well. The first goal is all on Mac Allister and tbh I didn't think it was a pen either- sell. Gravenberch doesn't offer enough oop or passing wise to start midfield at this level as a 6 or 8.

And Gakpo has got to have the most insecure selfish playing style I've ever seen- pass the ball to Rio? No, in his mind it's better to dribble into Rio's space and then give the ball away. Leave a pass going wide-left that obviously wasn't for you? No, I'll intercept it and give it to the opposition. Like what team are you playing for, mate? Europa League level at a push. Should hope Slot packs him in his suitcase when he f***s off.

Agree4

15 Apr 2026 09:31:59
@Let's, especially one who just plays the lineup required for the occasion rather than handicapping himself by playing unfit, out of form players to prove a point that no one knows a damn thing about.

Agree2

15 Apr 2026 10:00:06
The point with Jones is, he has been a squad player for 6yrs and nobody can tell me his nailed on position. He is not complete at any position he plays. He can't cross a ball to play out wide, doesn't score enough to play in the 10, has no defensive awareness to play in midfield. And he slows everything down with his 5 yard passes.

Agree0

15 Apr 2026 11:17:25
Think Kerkez has been one of our better players for a while now.

Agree1

15 Apr 2026 12:23:43
Why did Slot bring on Jones for Gomez, then put Sboz right back? I do not understand that!!! Isak should be kept back till next season, he is not going to get match fit with several games to go, so keep him back and work on his fitness.

Don't forget he did not have a pre-season. I would start Rio, Gakpo and Salah for the rest of the season. YNWA

Agree1

15 Apr 2026 02:27:14.
If anyone thinks we’re going to get a tune out of Isak this season, forget it!

His only aim is to ensure he avoids injury in order to get to the WC with Sweden, which is likely to be further cemented after what happened to our resident palindrome.

He won’t be the only one in protection mode either, given opportunity and ages of some.

It all adds up to a dodgy run in, if it hasn’t been dodgy enough already!

15 Apr 2026 09:35:46
Avitohyes, could it be that Isak is not fit cos he broke his leg?

Or hasn't been fit all season cos Slot kept playing him despite not having a preseason?

No manager (let alone Klopp) would have done any of what Slot has done with Isak if their goal was to get the best out of him. Just saying.

Agree0

15 Apr 2026 00:42:31
Frimpong looked like a 3rd division player tonight. He can’t tackle. He heads a ball like a 9 year old girl. Puts one good cross in every 5th game. Don’t care, he’s gotta go. Macca the invisible man too. That was the game for Mo and Robbo to start.

15 Apr 2026 06:38:17
I don't think Frimpong did much wrong last night, and I think Salah played with great energy and intensity when he came on.

Agree1

{Ed025's Note - come on Irish, Frimpong was awful mate but Mo got involved more than he has done this season and was quite good..

15 Apr 2026 06:40:16
Frimpong is poor, John, never a right back for me, poor buy.

Agree9

15 Apr 2026 07:01:48
Frimpong was absolutely shocking.

Agree6

15 Apr 2026 08:15:05
Frimpong wasn't great yesterday, but he was one of our best players against Fulham, and is one of the few players we have who has serious pace and can beat a defender out wide. Maybe not a nailed on starter, but surely not somebody we should be looking to sell?

Agree5

15 Apr 2026 08:42:40
Frimpong had a very poor end to the first half.

Agree1

15 Apr 2026 09:00:24
Frimpong had a poor game because he's a poor player and certainly not of LFC first team standard. He's not a good rb. He's not a good rw. He's all a bit of nothing really. Runs about a bit and that's about it. We actually need 2 new and proper rbs. We haven't got even one currently.

Agree1

15 Apr 2026 09:00:45
Hard to play with 10 men for virtually 80mins. Macca should be the 1st one out the door, absolute disgrace of a so called World Cup winner. Thought we did ok overall, and with better fitness and passing, we could have turned the tie, but why in the world was Wirtz not in the 10, yet again Slot shoe horning players into the wrong positions.

Gomez goes too, injury prone to death unfortunately, he did a good job for a few minutes but seriously.

Agree1

15 Apr 2026 09:30:26
Frimpong is absolutely useless half the time, and the other half the time he's injured. Why are we even buying a 4ft 10 tall dribbling full back in a prem era when sides are playing 6ft tall passers there? Clueless recruitment.

Agree2

15 Apr 2026 09:37:13
Magico, how about starting the game with 9 men, where a fully unfit Isak started with Macca playing near 90 mins.
