All the talk of Newcastle selling a few players in the summer, are or have we ever shown interest in Livramento seeing as not willing to sign a new contract? Good full back cover.
19 Apr 2026 16:04:38
Full back cover? He'd be our best fullback if he joined.
19 Apr 2026 16:10:50
He can join Bradley in the treatment room and keep him company.
19 Apr 2026 16:14:49
More injury prone than Gomez.
19 Apr 2026 16:16:50
Maybe a massive Liverpool tax put on any sales to us from Newcastle after last summer.
19 Apr 2026 16:18:14
I like Livramento, however, he is also severely injury-prone.
19 Apr 2026 23:30:06
I think he's very good, but he gets injured as much as Bradly, so not for me.
We need someone robust like Kerkez who barely ever gets injured.
19 Apr 2026 12:28:56
When the manager has lost interest then It's hard for the players to be bothered as well. Any other manager you'd expect the players to be up for a Merseyside Derby but unfortunately it's Slot. 1 - 1 draw is my prediction.
19 Apr 2026 12:50:44
Just seen the team. 3-0 Everton.
19 Apr 2026 13:10:31
Playing Isak in a Merseyside derby, well, he's getting injured then.
19 Apr 2026 13:13:58
I've got a feeling you will not be far out there, Kim.
19 Apr 2026 13:22:31
I just don't get it, KBL. You have an exciting young talent who will frighten the defence to death sat on the bench all to play out of form players and one who is at best 30 % match fit, it's insane in a Derby game. Gakpo will cut inside and lose it constantly, Mo will miss control it and shoot 10 yards over, constantly and Isak will trot around slowly for the 45 mins he can play.
It's such a poor, weak, unfit, low confidence team. Slot has no clue.
19 Apr 2026 13:41:57
Rio will come on for Isak later on. Isak still needs fitness, so Rio will come on and Gakpo will go up top. Not saying I agree with it, but it's sensible.
19 Apr 2026 13:45:39
I have a feeling you aren't going to be far out, Kim.
19 Apr 2026 13:49:14
I'm shocked Isak is starting, recipe for disaster that.
19 Apr 2026 13:52:08
Unfortunately, I have to agree with Kim.
19 Apr 2026 14:32:50
I'll be very happy to be proven wrong though.
19 Apr 2026 16:12:00
Well, these posts aged well. š
19 Apr 2026 16:21:53
Realistically, we probably didn't deserve more than a point. Another poor performance.
But, as it's Everton, I'll take it.
19 Apr 2026 16:26:11
Comedy gold.
19 Apr 2026 16:31:41
Very well, ArAy1969.
19 Apr 2026 16:49:50
More so called fans whining after a win.
19 Apr 2026 18:02:13
The performance matters.
19 Apr 2026 19:37:49
I'll gladly eat crow. Any recommendations on recipes?
19 Apr 2026 11:27:08
Ed025 how you feeling today about the game I see it being 2-2. Hopefully Villa drop points today as well and we can chase them down and you can get 6th and both of us get champions league. I've just looked you do have a tricky run in though.
{Ed025's Note - i have gone for the draw in my bet Grino, i have gone for 1-1 and Sobigheadednsly to score at 35/1 mate..
19 Apr 2026 11:52:40
Thought Grealish was injured.....
{Ed025's Note - Jack is injured Digger, but he is not big headed or sly mate he is so skillful that defenders have to foul him to get the ball off him, he is sorely missed but we have some good players that can cover for him..
19 Apr 2026 12:08:49
It's got 1-1 written all over it for me as well ed025. We score first after Pickford messes up a corner coming in, then we try and hold on and obviously can't so mess up and concede a goal that Ali would have saved but Marma can't.
{Ed025's Note - i will buy into that Mikey..
19 Apr 2026 13:22:28
Sorry ed25 did you say freakish is not big headed. The lad is a total tool. I've worked on his house when he was at city. Full of photos of himself and doesn't shut up about himself. If he was made of chocolate he would eat himself. So got to disagree with you there
{Ed025's Note - it is what it is Ted..
19 Apr 2026 05:28:42
A win today and it's 7 points clear of Chelsea with them still to play and dependant on what Villa do we could go level with them on points and also have them to play.
Champions League qualification is in our own hands. Let's hope we don't cock it up!
Everton can go 6th with a win so it should be some game.
19 Apr 2026 08:54:15
Next 2 games are vital. 6 points there, and confidence is up, and we're practically there on points too. Lose today and confidence is back to square one, and slog till the end, where we could easily miss out. Time for this team to step up now.
19 Apr 2026 09:25:16
Has this team stepped up all season?
19 Apr 2026 09:30:37
Confidence back to square 1? It's been lacking all season, unfortunately.
Which is a major part of the problem why the season has been so crap.
You can see it in the players, and why the season has been a struggle since early days.
I just don't see it, unfortunately, which is awful to admit.
19 Apr 2026 09:44:24
The team will step up when the manager steps down.
19 Apr 2026 09:52:59
I think it's going to be the worst derby in decades. Two of the poorest teams I've ever seen.
19 Apr 2026 10:08:11
We will beat the blue noses 2 nil... They are favourites for the 1st time in years, pressure is on them n they're not used to that pressure... Well that's my philosophy anyway, lets home it true ha.
19 Apr 2026 10:14:32
I mean, thingo, if we win today our confidence should be in a decent place for the run for top 5.
A 7 point gap. The players won their last two games in the Premier.
And I know many disagreed with me, and I don't feel like arguing every point of the game, but I saw the midweek game as a good step forward, minus the final third where we were poor again and playing Macca, who was shocking.
Granted those are big minuses, but I could see green shoots in our play if we build on it for the run-in in areas still lacking.
19 Apr 2026 10:53:27
The least I've ever been bothered about the Derby in years.
Feels like mid July, Audi Cup semi final in Singapore listening to Jay Spearing on LFCTV tell me this is Curtis Jones's year. š
19 Apr 2026 11:08:39
Indeed, @Thingo. Was the confidence ever there this season? As for the game this afternoon, what will be, will be. I'm numb, and with Chelsea losing in another dreadful perf. at home, the result of the derby means very little. If it's a draw? It's "as you were", really.
19 Apr 2026 12:17:30
Derbies are always frantic - fast-paced and tough-tackling. None of these qualities have been displayed in ages.
I think we'll be very lucky to even get a draw.
I can also see a red card happening. A lazy or tired late tackle.
19 Apr 2026 16:51:41
Scouse John, you wouldn't be positive even if we won 5-0. You drain people with your total negativity.
18 Apr 2026 23:38:34
As much as I hate United winning, that gives us breathing space.
19 Apr 2026 06:22:35
Yeah, between us and UTD.
Or until we get beat today and then lose at home to Palace next week. Probably lose to Chelsea as well, and UTD.
We're stuffed the season up good and proper, and it's going to take a miracle to make top 5.
19 Apr 2026 06:30:18
Apparently, we are winning all our remaining fixtures, TIB....
We'll even secure 2nd after the greatest bottle job that's about to hit.
19 Apr 2026 06:32:38
That's the spirit, @TIB, more like your glass is empty, let alone half full.
19 Apr 2026 07:07:13
My glass is completely bone dry, WDW. Every bit of optimism has been sucked out of me during the course of this season, mate.
19 Apr 2026 08:29:13
Probably couldn't ask for a better game today.
No hiding place for anyone.
Slot and the players will either stand up to the task or fall by the way side.
19 Apr 2026 08:47:04
They have to give their all today. They should show a bit of passion and commitment. Also, a good way to bounce back after the cup exit.
Let's hope we can do it, the Blues will be fired-up for this.
19 Apr 2026 08:49:57
Bulk, if we win our 3 home games, we get top 5. I hardly think that constitutes a miracle. Personally, I'm not confident of getting anything from our 3 remaining away fixtures, but 3 home wins will be enough. What a time to be a Red!
19 Apr 2026 09:34:45
I'd love for us to win our remaining games, but the way the season has gone, it's going to be a miracle. Our recent form suggests maybe winning 1 or 2 of the games. Hope I'm wrong, which I am a lot, but unless the games are reduced to 60 minutes, so we don't look knackered, I honestly don't believe we can.
19 Apr 2026 09:35:37
The thing is, Rome, I remember the teams we lost to at home this season, then I take a look at the fixture list, and wonder where the points are coming from.
19 Apr 2026 10:00:48
Couldn't care less who wins so long as it helps us out in the long run. I was absolutely delighted to see Utd got the victory yesterday, and you'd have to be thick as 2 planks to feel any other way about it.
We've been extremely lucky with how poor Chelsea and Villa have been on the run in. Time to take advantage of it.
2 wins back to back now would all but secure 5th, with Chelsea still to play at home. I hope the lads understand just how absolutely massive today is. This is one of the biggest derbies we've had in a long time, so much at stake. I'm expecting Everton to come out swinging. The boys best best proper up for it.
19 Apr 2026 11:11:15
The amount of "If we win..." type statements I have been reading all thru this season before games, is out of this world.
19 Apr 2026 11:39:02
OliRed, the amount of delusional "We will win..." claims from a special few on here who seem to have a very poor grasp of just how football works is completely insane.
We've lost 4 of our last 5 and 17 for the season so far. Week after week the same fools keep saying "Well I think we'll beat them..." only for them to be proven wrong.
They must have the memory of a goldfish and the skin of a hippo to be coming back and making the same stupid predictions every few days.
19 Apr 2026 12:43:08
In fairness, I'd rather read posts claiming we will win or even lose over posts saying I didn't watch the game as I had better things to do.
19 Apr 2026 12:49:49
What phrase, instead of "if we", would you prefer to be used, Oli? It's a phrase that's open ended. I'd rather use the phrase "if we" than be in a position where we are saying "we need so and so to lose". It's in our hands, and I'm fairly confident we will get 5th. If we win our home games.
19 Apr 2026 16:27:23
Rome as is the norm for you, you have missed the point completely. Therefore I refer you to reponse from @Chewy where he explained my post clearly (outside the harsh/harsher words he used) on this thread at a basic level. I propose you read what he said and you may understand a lot better.
18 Apr 2026 23:21:16
Konate contract done, what do we think? Iām not sure on him myself. He has his days.
19 Apr 2026 00:30:54
I'm happy if true, he's had a crap season, but who hasn't.
19 Apr 2026 04:54:38
It's another mistake by the hierarchy. Konate isn't good enough, and his wages will be way above market value for someone who was all in on going to Real Madrid while he thought there was a chance.
He hasn't just had a crap season - he's been a bit crap for years, with some good games thrown in on occasion.
19 Apr 2026 06:19:58
At least he has a sell on value if he has signed.
19 Apr 2026 06:25:46
Needs to be replaced. When he's playing bad, you know it. When he's playing good, his head is in Madrid. He will drop us like a hot stone if they come back calling, and for that reason alone we should get shot of him.
19 Apr 2026 06:41:16
He will have been at the club for 5 years at the start of July - he is a PL winner and a regular for France, and will be playing in the World Cup. I've never seen him say he wants to leave or bad mouth the club. The (made up) criticism of his motives and his capabilities as a player are just pathetic.
19 Apr 2026 07:08:40
West Derby Wanderer, spot on. He takes some criticism on here, but Van Dijk has been awful, flinging his arms around. The truth is, he doesn't want to make a tackle, it's his heading abilitie that's his strong point. I'm afraid age catches up with us all, and you can clearly see that with Van Dijk.
19 Apr 2026 07:40:04
Couldn't agree more... Sell VVD and give Konate his contract desires.
19 Apr 2026 08:38:09
Opposition teams target Konate when out of possession. They let him have the ball when he's 30 yards plus from our goal, as they know he doesn't do a lot with it and slows us down even more, and they also trigger their press on him when he receives it when close to our goal.
Unbelievably, though, our players seem to love to give him the ball. The amount of times our forwards and midfield choose to go back to him rather than forward is infuriating.
Just plays into the opposition's game plan.
{Ed001's Note - he is not helped by Virgil, who never does anything but stands and watches, instead of sprinting into a position to receive a pass. He doesn't make any effort to make angles for passes at all, same when the keeper has it, he just strolls about. At least if he moved it would give one option.}
19 Apr 2026 08:43:33
I'd rather he be replaced by someone more consistent with defending and who also has leadership qualities, since VVD will probably leave in a year.
I don't think Konate would do too well next to a young defender. He seems to need a more senior player/leader next to him, and even then he's so inconsistent.
19 Apr 2026 09:15:46
To those saying, we've protected Konate's value by giving him a new contract.
What value?
No one wanted him while he was free!
19 Apr 2026 09:21:28
Perhaps he would grow with additional responsibility. He speaks well - coherent and thoughtful when interviewed - and I think he was actually captain of France in one of his appearances. Perhaps he might step up if / when VVD leaves.
19 Apr 2026 09:43:55
Konate is constantly caught wandering and is a serial fouler. It's amazing how he hasn't seen more cards this season for pulling and grabbing hold of players. Some fouls he commits are illegal in rugby.
Notice how his form "improved" when Madrid lost interest? That, to me, shows he sees us as a stepping stone. As soon as Leoni is fit, I would drop Konate, at the least.
19 Apr 2026 10:06:43
He's had a poor season, and even when he's on form there's a donkey in him just waiting to rear its head, but I do think the club's going to try and spend as little as possible this summer, and with Leoni and Jacquet there, I would like to see the bulk of our funds going towards wingers and a solid midfielder.
As poor as we've been at the back, we've been 10x times worse in the middle and going forward. I think a solid DM in front of the back line (and a new manager) would seriously improve the defensive situation.
19 Apr 2026 10:28:32
I'm ok with it, you have to have some continuity.
Next season I'm hoping, with a new coaching set up, we give some youngsters a chance.
Leoni and Jacquet as rotational central defenders.
Kerkez is young and established.
Get Bradley fit as RB.
I want to see McConnell given a chance as a rotational option in midfield with Nyoni.
Some of these young lads could fill a squad role without us splurging loads on journeymen.
19 Apr 2026 08:51:12
Ed001 agree mate. When Konate gets it the opposition use it to get their players into defensive shape as they know he'll hold it for an age before making a 5 yard pass.
Players like Virg need to move to get it off him early to get that ball moving. Would also help if we stopped giving him the ball all the time like he's our playmaker.
{Ed001's Note - it drives me mad that, particularly when it is thrown back to him 50 yards from a throw in on the edge of the opposition box!}
19 Apr 2026 10:52:44
Konate not good enough!!!! So how was he good enough under Klopp?
Yes, he has had a poor season, but not all down to him. Other factors to blame, like the set up by the head coach, the system by the head coach, players around him off the boil. And the loss of his beloved father. People forget this. We all know how we have all felt at the loss of Diogo Jota, so Konate has had to deal with both losses.
So, let's take things into consideration before we make rash statements. I have had a go over Konate and the way he has been performing, but thinking what has happened in this man's life in such a short time made me realise it was not Konate, it was me being selfish, blaming him when I was 100% wrong.
And I apologise to Konate. YNWA.
{Ed001's Note - he was never good enough under Klopp, which is why Matip was first choice over him. Klopp never trusted him either. He was the weak link all last season.}
19 Apr 2026 10:56:37
Not for me, Konate. I think if he has signed it is because we keep losing players on a free. If he has another season like this, we can sell him on.
19 Apr 2026 11:19:01
@Strom if Konate has signed, it prolly due yo what you have saind in addition to the notion that the club have not seen a CB thay can sign to replace him in the open market.
As for Konate himself, he has his faults and we all know what those are. However, the system he is in this season (where he is having to help in build-up while being pressed with no passing options) are making his faults even more palpable hence, the panic he shows in situations where he should not be panicking hence, his head goes and has had bad games.
Now when you add Ed01's observation has said about VVD going walk-bout in many situations hanging him out to dry (we can literally see this happening in games) then, we should not be surprised about his immense struggles this season.
Konate can always get better (he has a solid season last season) but with what has happened to all the players this season, they can all get better including Konate.
Not with this manager, tho.
19 Apr 2026 12:52:59
I don't mind him, he's no world beater, but as long as he has competition, then that's fine. The issue is when you look to the squad for cover, and we have Gomez, usually injured. That's the biggest issue for me.
19 Apr 2026 15:04:55
Oli, I agree with all that, n the midfield leave the CBs wide open, but it's his basic mistakes he makes most games, esp this year, that bother me. Let's hope the new manager can see the changes we need n improve the defence inc Konate.
19 Apr 2026 16:29:08
If there is a new manager cos, clearly, it seems it's all honky-dorry with Slot in charge for the two clown above him, per "reports".
18 Apr 2026 22:37:03
Diouf was a total s*** of a person but far far from the worst striker!
18 Apr 2026 23:25:59
He was an awful striker and an awful human.
One of the worst forwards I've ever seen.
19 Apr 2026 03:02:06
He has to be the worst signing for us ever. To think we chose him over signing Anelka is beyond belief.
19 Apr 2026 08:08:11
He was really good in Football Manager while Anelka was a prima donna in that game. I reckon that's what they based the move on.
19 Apr 2026 08:27:05
Mad Erik Meijer
Sean Dundee
Ricky Lambert
They were all right down there as our worst forwards in recent memory.
19 Apr 2026 08:29:09
He was absolutely rubbish. Didn't score a single goal in his second season. The bloke averaged something like 0.1 goals per game. One of the worst footballers to ever swindle a pro contract.
19 Apr 2026 11:19:52
Haha Nicolas Anelka on Championship Manager 01/02.
For a laugh, I took over whatever club he was at and transfer listed him, sold him to another PL club where he played for a season.
I then took that club over, transfer listed him, and sold him. Rinse and repeat each season, whatever club he was at - he was at a new club each season (sometimes 2 clubs in a season!).
It got to a point where he refused to sign for another club no matter what (after he had been at about 7 or 8 clubs).
At that point I renamed him 'Premiership Wh*re'.
19 Apr 2026 12:18:21
Anelka was also the best striker in the game, even if he lived on the transfer list - even signing contracts after withdrawing his transfer request and a month before handing in a new transfer request. That month, though, where he was settled - up there with the real Ronaldo. Loved the drama with that man.
