If we knew we were a year away from letting Alison leave, why did we not try harder to keep hold of Kelleher? Another masterstroke from Mickey Edwards.
22 Apr 2026 16:59:17
Probably because Kelleher wanted out and whilst a great back up is not seen as good enough to be our no. 1. Who is to say he would have signed a new contract if offered? It was the last time to get some money for a player we didn't necessarily see as part of the long term future of the club
Agree3
22 Apr 2026 17:05:41
Kelleher wanted first team football, Allison is contracted until 2027.
Agree3
22 Apr 2026 17:16:27
A. Kelleher wanted first team football now, he didn't want to spend another season on the bench.
B. What makes you think we knew Alisson wanted to leave a year ago?
Agree2
22 Apr 2026 17:18:34
What did it have to do with Edwards, anyway?
Agree2
22 Apr 2026 16:03:04
With Leicester City relegated would the club renew their interest of a few years ago in Abdul Fatawa?
22 Apr 2026 16:31:34
No.
Any player getting only 9 goals in 43 appearances in the Championship from an attacking position is in no way a reasonable target for a team wanting to win the Premier League.
Agree4
22 Apr 2026 17:21:37
If slot stays we may need a couple of championship players.

Agree1
23 Apr 2026 01:10:18
He was great on my FM save but he ended up refusing to sign a new contract and forced a transfer. Showed mercenary-like behaviour and I wouldn't want him anywhere near the club anymore ;)

Que the meltdown feel sorry for the ITKs and the Eds if Alonso not coming is true.
However Ed1 before the madness starts if we do go for Sebastian Hoeness, what kind of style does he usually play with, and do you feel he's a good fit for the current squad?
{Ed001's Note - he is similar to prime-Klopp in his style of play. Not quite as gung ho but the closest I have seen in Europe. Him or Iraola would be perfect fits I feel, they can adjust to suit what they have.}
22 Apr 2026 16:30:16
I recall you speaking highly of him Ed.
It is good news.
Surely the higher up know they have to change. Arne is not the man to lead us forward.
Was really hoping for Xavi.
If your speaking that highly of Hoeness though, I'll be all in on him!
Agree2
{Ed001's Note - I do like Hoeness.}
22 Apr 2026 17:01:38
Klopp came to Liverpool as a title winner. Slot came to Liverpool as a title winner. Xabi Alonso is a title winner.
Iraola and Hoeness are big risks that a club that has been breaking the British transfer records shouldn't be making.
Hughes and Edwards trying too hard to be hipsters.
Agree2
22 Apr 2026 17:01:51
I do rate Hoeness myself
Agree5
22 Apr 2026 17:03:37
"Prime Klopp" you say, give Hoeness the job now!
Agree5
22 Apr 2026 17:26:15
Any manager is a risk. I accept that. I accept we will lose games. we will have periods of being dog muck. but as long as it doesn't last and tou can see everyone together. in it together. work rate from players. manager trying everything to chnage fortunes.all that was evident under klopp and any dip in form we had.
None of it is evident in how we are now and have been declining for best part of 14 months.
I refuse to believe FSG accept we are where we are because we have earned it. not everyone else has been so poor. massive drop in quality of the league this year. next season has disaster written all over it and slot being sacked by Christmas (if still here)
Agree1
22 Apr 2026 17:43:32

I think Iraola is closer to Klopp in terms of intensity than Hoeness.
Iraola's teams do more running.

Ed1, we are at the tail end of the season, and a few top clubs might be looking for new managers. Like Man Utd, Liverpool if Slot does leave, City if Pep calls it a day, and Chelsea, who might regret appointing Rosenior.
I'm kind of interested to know your opinion on what will happen this summer in terms of the managerial merry-go-round, just maybe based on your information or some predictions from you, if you may.
Agree0
{Ed001's Note - Pep has been trying to leave City for years but they keep persuading him to stay. So no idea if he will finally leave, but I would expect so, unless once again they can't find a replacement. They did speak to Maresca earlier in the season, while he was still at Chelsea but seem to have cooled on him. Maybe it will be Xabi.
Man Utd I have no clue about. Not sure they know themselves yet, I think they are still looking for the right person.
Chelsea were not intending to make a change and are completely unprepared. Their five sporting directors will no doubt struggle to come to a consensus and decide who to appoint. They have given themselves a bit of time to consider their options but I wouldn't expect the same mistake as last time and just take O'Neil from Strasbourg.
As for us, I believe Dick and Ted were keen on Iraola, but he wants to return home to the Basque country, not Spain as people keep saying. Like most Basques, he does not really consider it Spain. I think that leaves two options, firstly stick with Slot a year and hold out for Enrique next summer. Secondly, there is Xabi and Hoeness if Slot is not too unsettled in the UK to stay another year.}
23 Apr 2026 00:05:16
Appreciate your reply, Ed. Chelsea is a funny one because now they need to pay a huge amount of money for someone who only worked for four months. I don't even know how they came to the conclusion of giving Rosenior a five-year contract.
As for us, Enrique is probably the best manager available right now, and waiting a year for him might be interesting. But that would also mean risking another season like this one, with no guarantee that we'll actually get him. He might want to take a break after PSG, or another big club could offer him a more interesting project next season. I can't stand another season of Slot football to be honest.
Agree0
{Ed001's Note - no they don't, he had break clauses in his contract, it won't be anything like as much as people believe to get rid of him.}
23 Apr 2026 00:11:55
is nobody worried about the fact that the current squad is incapable of playing an aggressive style of football? Outside of Dom and Kerkez none of them even have the engine for it never mind the ability. Not to mention half the teams made of crisps and can't even handle a season of pensionball.
If Alonso is out Hoeness would be my preference, but he'll have a rough with time of it playing heavy metal football with this lot, I hope FSG realise just how much work needs doing. A lot of transfers needed.
Agree1

I love a battler, an underdog. I'll back the guy that most love to hate on.
But are we saying that coaching Hoffenheim and Stuttgart, winning a cup along the way, is the platform to dive into coaching Liverpool FC?
Agree0
23 Apr 2026 18:10:48
Ed, are you telling me that we need to stock up on tissues again over the summer if Hoeness gets the job? I don't know about you but I've got all, if not most, of the tissues I bought from last summer

What’s everyone’s thoughts on James Trafford, I see he wants to leave City. I actually rate him & have followed his progress since a young age, I personally don’t think mama is the answer to replace Ali & there’s not many stand out keepers to choose from, I’m not saying Trafford is outstanding. I just think he’s better than our no 2.
22 Apr 2026 16:31:14
Was just thinking that recently when I saw he wanted to leave.
Nowhere near Alison's level, but young enough to get better.
Would help with the homegrown issue, and is better than Mama too imo.
Don't think it'll happen though
Agree1
22 Apr 2026 16:32:37
Dont think he would want to be a Num 2 - he expected to be Citys number 1 when they bought him.
Newcastle will probably go back in for him.

22 Apr 2026 13:36:55
Maybe the club have informed the news outlets and journalists that Slot is staying just to reduce the noise in the wider media surrounding his future?
22 Apr 2026 14:18:13
Maybe, Maybe Not.
Agree1
22 Apr 2026 14:26:04
Probably.
Either that or the news outlets are guessing.

22 Apr 2026 14:27:05
Despite all the crap this season, we will most probably get CL next year and reached quarter final in CL this year. (You will find that Liverpool are still one of the top earners in CL and PL money)
Money wise we won't be missing much so season although it has been nowhere near good can't be judged as complete failure. Its definitely a farcry from where we want to be.
Slot needs to get his act together but i don't necessarily believe that him staying is end of the world as is being made out on this site.
We do need few additions and we should be back challenging again.
My biggest test for slot is the man united game now. A fixture we have dominated simply under Klopp. If slot wins that game and 4 out 5 remaining ones i think he makes a case for himself.
Agree3
22 Apr 2026 14:34:07
I've heard Slot is staying as no other job worldwide offers as many days off as LFC.
Not even jobseekers
Agree7
{Ed025's Note - love it JK..
22 Apr 2026 14:54:28
Slot has to go because, by many accounts, he is not 110% committed to the job. The flying home constantly, the lack of player fitness, the not really getting involved with the city - it all reeks of a manager trying to wing a £6-7m per-year job. When you are employed on that much money at such a big club, your life is your job, and that's more or less all there is to it.
Yes, even your family has to fit around such a responsibility, even if that's not what people think is right.
The results have been horrendous, but even if they weren't I would still advocate for Slot going.
Agree7
22 Apr 2026 15:00:30
I didn't mind being less rubbish than everyone else last season.
Agree0
22 Apr 2026 15:01:23
Slot staying is not the end of the world you are correct.
But it will be the end of football enjoyment for me, .
Even if slot changes tactics again, the man has zero charisma, no visible connections to players or fans, no squad rotation, no openings for youngSters.. i know he is not Klopp, but we are not like other clubs where that doesn't matter. The connection between fans manager and players is vital to our club identity.
He has showed for well over a year he is tactically inept. the results are shocking, and form a la Hodgson era is not acceptable. we are unfit physically, mentally and for purpose.
Other teams Brentford and Bournemouth have had huge player turn around. they are not struggling. and still at least to try to play their. game.we do not
And let's not forget his lack of Full commitment to the project.
Would the club accept a player jetting back off to another country at every possible and sometimes inappropriate times? If his family doesn't want to be here, then fine, resign and go back to join them.
Thank you for your efforts and enjoy your life.
Agree5
22 Apr 2026 15:33:40
I personally thinking getting rid of Edwards and Hughes is more important than getting rid of Slot.
Poor squad planning, scattergun egocentric transfer approach and an obsession with selling every academy player. Leaving us with an unbalanced and thin squad.
Glad they're only here for another year because any longer and we'd turn into Chelsea
Agree2
22 Apr 2026 15:47:00
Not possible to be 110% committed 😅 however I agree we need a manager committed to the cause the fact he hasn't settled and is jetting off at every opportunity is enough for me to let him go.
Agree3
22 Apr 2026 15:55:40
Amazing how a fortunate last minute win over our neighbours and a barrage of club propaganda can change the mood music about Arne Slot being here next summer.
Tony B and Neil J should work for no10 Downing Street.
Agree1

It's a simple one for me. You want to stick with average you get average. You seek the best you become the best. If it backfires they have only themselves to blame. But for some unbeknownst reason it works they'll be lauded as geniuses for being Indecisive.Stranger things have happened in football but anything is a possibility at this point.

22 Apr 2026 17:49:15
Its this year he has been off to Holland loads and I believe there is more to this than meets the eye. Could be very personal. He has also given players a lot of time off so its not necessarily something we know but club definitely knows and they won't be giving out holidays without reason.
I trust the club just didn't decide all together that they are happy to pay managers and players a weekly wage for holidays.
So yea there is more to this which club has kept close to itself. There have been a lot of things in media but it is safe to say no one has got a damn clue right now.

{Ed033's Note -
CL and Slot poll

Thinking back to Brodge, I am sorry to say I would rather a fresh manager come in with no champs league, concentrate on the league, play kids in europa. We wasted a season in 15/16 where klopp was left with a depleted squad that wasn't at the required level and hadn't trained with them in a pre season to build in their fitness to his levels.
we got Grujic and Caulker in because we bought poorly inthe summer and couldn't afford anything else., klopp then spent the next summer revamping the squad. It feels like we are a lot closer to 1st place int erms of squad than what our placement shows.
Wasting another summer budget on possible transfer that won't suit another manage down the road is not the 1.
Miss out on champs league, give Alonso the funds to buy in the 3/4 required players, let him move on the 5/6 unrequired players and have a full pre season with the lads.
Don't waste another season like we did with Brodge

just to put it out there, the request for this poll was on a thread where someone else posed the question. just wanted the poll to give a quick count.
Interestingly it's not as emphatic as I thought it'd be based on comments. Thought way more would give up CL in order for Slot to go

Faith I was only bantering mate and I actually voted.
I'll be honest I have no idea who does the hiring and firing at the club.

On this season alone it could very well be Irene the tea lady.

Agree4
22 Apr 2026 15:03:40

I find that it is strange that FSG and Edwards and Hughes would release any information in farvour or against Slot staying as head coach while there are 5 games to go. It really does not make sense with out full look over all of this season the performance of the head coach and his assistants, the players form, injuries, transfers.
I think maybe people are passing on rumours
I personally won't except the rumours until it is officially broad cast on the Liverpool TV Channel.

Faith,
We already have Jacquet entering. we have Leoni to come in, but ideally I'd have Konate leave and another CB come in.
Elliot hasn't featured. he's no loss.
Salah is leaving and Diomande coming in
Sell Macca Get a DM
Bradley or Frimpong Leave both always injured but most like Bradley.
Tsimikas is back (backup or promote youth)and Robbo is leaving
that's your 5/6 leaving right there or you can swap Gomez for Bradley
DM, Diomande, another CB, maybe another Mid I don't see where we are light
