Ron, I saw your post about Karius down the page, and while I don’t think he was brilliant, I think “Hides under pressure” is a bit unfair, certainly not after this game. Yes he struggled a bit under the high ball, but he also made a couple of important stops against rushing out against Rondon. For the first goal, he makes a good stop but needs help from the defenders for the rebound. For the second, yes he is stuck in no-mans land, but if he stays on his line, the header will beat him anyway. The fault there lies with the defenders for allowing a free header, and the quality of the ball in the first place. It has to be said as well, that almost any keeper in the prem would struggle with the physicality of West Brom today, they played some great balls into the box. For sure there’s a lot he can improve on, but I don’t think Karius was particularly poor today.

This is a pretty poor result in that we failed to put another nail in Chelsea's top four hopes, and we've now given them a glimmer of hope in maybe catching us.
But I also think there is an unusual silver lining in this result.
I suspect that if we'd cruised to a 3-0 win today the media and fans would've started with the all-conquering Liverpool hype, and I think we'd have cruised on into Tuesday's game expecting a win, and being a bit complacent- which is usually disastrous for this team.
After todays disappointment Klopp and the players will be angry and upset, and I think it might give them a bit of extra sharpness and determination on Tuesday.
They will need every bit of focus and determination to stop Roma getting am away goal, and yes it's a small consolation, but this result today will stop any complacency creeping into Tuesday's game.
At the moment Bayern and Real are weaker than they have been for several years, and we may not get this good a chance of reaching a CL final and winning for another five years, maybe more.
A top performance on Tuesday holds the key to getting into a winnable CL final- and at least now we will come out hungry and focused.
Not much consolation I admit, but it's something.

I agree also, probably did us the world of good, you need a good wake up call every now and then. Over the last few weeks I’d say we’ve felt invincible. Plus considering how Roma got past Barcelona, it’s a shock we needed now. Let s also not forget we didn’t throw away all the points which in previous seasons we would have. Bring on Tuesday.

Also worth remembering that we changed three quarters of the defence, and a third of the midfield and attack. Nearly everybody wanted Klopp to rest players and this is the kind of result you get when that happens. Personally I think momentum is more important than giving people a rest, but Klopp has done enough for me to trust.

Very pleased for Ings and Salah and some pretty momentous goals for very contrasting reasons!

Worryingly Karius was all over the place today and I’m not just referring to the goals.

When the pressure is on, he hides. He’s had a good few weeks but the fact remains when teams target him on crosses he can’t cope.

Hope Roma weren’t watching.

Good point Mush!
It highlighted our weaknesses which can now be focused on.

I also don't like it when Klopp makes substitutions at the end of the game for the sake of it (Lovren today), usually also changing formation. We often lose our rhythm and end up weaker. Hopefully he doesn't do this on Tuesday either.

Not a great result but SHOULDNT be detrimental to our top 4 hopes. And the most important thing is the squad should be fully fit with no injures for Tuesday.

Obviously disappointed but we all know some of the players in our 2nd string and on our bench just aren’t good enough.

Our core 11 can beat ANYONE but outside that things look shaky. something for JK to fix this summer so we can challenge on multiple fronts! 💪🏼

Step 1 get Navy Keith in 👍🏼.

It kind of shows that our squad isn’t good enough.
Our first 11 is a match for any team in the world, take a few regulars out though and we can struggle.
To win leagues we need a better squad.

It really is a worry that Klopp brings on Lovren as if that would help us see out the game, despite the fact that everytime we try 3 CBs we look dreadful.

What do people make of how Gomez and his lack of concentration again today

He is so highly regarded on this page

He has cause at least 5 goals this season if top my head just frustrating

I hope he proves me wrong but I don't see it at the moment.

The kid is young and needs time to progress but if things don't start getting better next season there is the sad possibility we will have a Titus Bramble on our hands.
Let's hope he kicks on next season and shows us his true quality.

It is something he needs to work on and remove from his game - the regularity of the lapses are a huge concern - perhaps he needs a season on loan getting regular football at centre back to aid his development? I don't think he ever looks entirely comfortable in the fullback position.

21 Apr 2018 19:36:18
He's very casual with his defending. It has become a regular occurrence with him. It drives me nuts.

Thought both full backstreet awful today an caused a lot of unrest at the back. Having said that it's a game we should of definitely won.

21 Apr 2018 20:43:48
I think some of you are forgetting he is only 20 plus he's only just come back from injury. It takes time for some players to develop how WE want them to develop, he's got it there, sure he makes mistakes but he's still very young, mistakes will help him overall.

Gomez has got massive potential and needs support not ridiculing. Sending him out on loan is not a good idea imo, we need to persevere with him, I think it'll be worth it in the long run.

Agree8 1Disagree

21 Apr 2018 20:50:07
Perhaps people on this page need to stop over hyping players! I saw nothing of him to suggest he could play at CB. Klopp might need to buy a defender in the summer! I have no confidence in Gomez for the next season. He is positionally awful. Another Solanke in the making!

Agree3 6Disagree

21 Apr 2018 21:07:54
Another solanke? WTF are you smoking? Different position for a start and how are they even one bit similar, except age.

Agree7 1Disagree

21 Apr 2018 21:12:52
At this stage I just think we should just go ahead and release every player we have under the age of 21 on a free, since "fans" aren't willing to give them a chance.

We're raving about Wilson, but based on what we're saying about Gomez and Solanke, not to mention Alexander-Arnold before the City match, we'll probably end up tearing strips off him and calling him a Championship player if he has a bad game here and there (as tends to happen with young players, it's why 17 year olds usually don't go straight into the first team) . Why not just save some time and rip up his contract now so he can go somewhere where the fans might give him a chance? Ditto Woodburn, Ojo and Brewster.

Gomez made a mistake today and I have no problem with people discussing it, but comparing him to Bramble and saying there's nothing about him that suggests he can play CB (but then again, that's probably just Harry trying to be a contrarian) is just bashing for the sake of bashing.

He's generally had a good season, and it was only 3 weeks ago we were practically quaking over not having him available for the Man City match. But that's all undone over 90 minutes today and he can't play, is it lads? Not even 90 minutes actually. About 10, because he I thought he played well for most of the game, practically all their attacks were coming down the other side.

It's quite sad how easy people will hang a young player, who has had his fair share of great games for us, out to dry.

Players learn through experience, they do not stay with the same ability forever!

If Salah has a dip next season, is he going to be the next one we call to sell? (I don't expect fans to go to this level, but I recall some posters mentioning "Mane was a one season wonder" after his slight dip at the start of the season)

21 Apr 2018 21:52:43
This is crazy. Yes Gomez and TAA have made several mistakes over the season which have directly led to goals but if Clyne had not been injured he'd have made plenty more. Plus the difference is Gomez and TAA will learn from those and go on to be fantastic players for us.

Both players are moving in the right direction and it'll take many more mistakes until they get there.

Carra was the same. I couldn't believe how he got in the team in his early days but I was proved very, very wrong.

Something Red 🙌🏼

Honestly I think some posters shouldn’t be able to post until the day after a game lol to let them cool down a bit and gather their few sensible thoughts together. we all know who they are 🤷🏻‍♂️😂.

Agree1 0Disagree

21 Apr 2018 23:34:23
It's not a crazy question when as player falls asleep very often age doesn't matter with that

If he is lfcs future centre half he needs to up his game and effort stop been casual and focus more or he isn't good enough he has a opportunity of a life time and needs to up his game a lot and make klopp think he isn't good enough or we will end up with another centre half coming in and taken his place

So buck up and work hard.

How much does a 21 year old in the championship with 7 goals and 5 assists in 11 go for nowadays? In all seriousness I'd give him another full season with Hull and hope he can make the jump, he could be a good player if he gets regular minutes.

Wilson is a seriously talented lad. He’s really taken his chance brilliantly and has to have put himself in the managers plans for next season.

21 Apr 2018 18:56:52
What can you say about the guy. He's been scoring at a rate of almost 1 a game for the last few years at u23 level. Goes to a poor Hull side in a competitive and physical championship and just carries on. He's ready for senior football and I hope he gets a loan to Premier league side next year.

Apologies Ed1, I couldn't get that hat trick mate!

Not the result we wanted that is it, but we got a point it's better then nothing. Plus one positive I am thinking about is we have Roma next, I think after today's result we'll want to go out there and get a real result to make things right so bring them on! Least we don't have to wait another week to watch us play again :)

Results like that today, they happen, that's football, we move on! top 4 is still ours.

{Ed001's Note - so long as you had a good bday mate, that is the important thing.}

I'm saving the hat trick for Tuesday ;) hope you've had a good day Ed mate.

{Ed001's Note - good thinking. My day would have been better if we hadn't let a 2 goal lead slip.}

21 Apr 2018 20:53:00
I know mate it's frustrating, to say the least. It really winds me up I have to admit, it's like we turn off at the back when we're a couple/ few up which is concerning yet other games we'll carry on and make sure we get the win, I think we underestimated them, we shouldn't underestimate any time we play, no matter who it is.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad we got the point, every little counts but we should've got the 3 points today. Stoke/ Chelsea are must win games for me, we need to show them who's boss like we know we can! But Let's get Roma dealt with first.

21 Apr 2018 17:18:16
Poor referee but still does not cover up the fact we couldn’t hold out for the last 12 minutes with a 2 goal lead. Positives to come out of today no injuries hopefully. How many times has klopp decided to bring another centre half on and we have conceded or dropped points? Would love to know.

Agree9 1Disagree

21 Apr 2018 17:29:46
Agreed. I have always said the best form of Defense is attack. Klopp continues to get this one wrong, although the referee, Gomez and 5 changes certainly did not help.

Agree6 2Disagree

21 Apr 2018 17:36:47
Agreed completely, it seems to unsettle the defence rather than solidifying it and it beckons the other team to attack - I wish the manager didn't do it but it seems to be his thing.

The referee was a joke, there was only a couple of game changing decisions to be made in the game and he got every one wrong. A shame that we are talking about the referees again rather than the football.

Not a fan of us switching to a back 3 even to see games out seems to invite pressure and not convinced we have the players suited to it. Today also showed why TAA and Robertson are our first choice full backs.
