Are we really in for Saul? We are not heavily link with him compared to the others that had been brought up like Bissouma, Neuhaus and Renato.

Even though I really doubt that could happen due to his high wages. But of course would be really happy if he is the one that going to replace Gini.

sepah

1.) 08 Jul 2021 14:20:09
I was thinking the same - the rumours tend to be sporadic rather than consistent as they are with other players.

It could either be that we are NOT in for him, or a bit more like the Fab transfer when it was kept under wraps.

Let's wait and see, but I would also be very happy with him.

2.) 08 Jul 2021 14:46:25
We are not in for him and can’t afford his wages as Ed002 has explained.

3.) 08 Jul 2021 15:59:52
Not happening mate, but I agree that’s the calibre of player we should be trying to get. I want Barella to replace Gini but that isn’t happening either.
It really is a window for the likes of PSG City and United, capitalising on the rest of us being skint. Luckily our first 11 is very strong even though our squad is weak. Make do and try again next summer to freshen the ageing squad.

4.) 08 Jul 2021 17:00:50
I don’t think ed002 said we were not it for him. Ed did say we might be able to bid for Sancho, if that was the case for the right player money could be found. £200k a week is doable.

5.) 08 Jul 2021 18:00:52
I think you need to wait and see, I'm pretty sure Michael Edwards is not going to tell anyone on here what he is up to, even though some think they know.

6.) 08 Jul 2021 18:37:24
He’s on €300k after tax, let’s just stop saying we will sign him as he’s on way more than we’d ever offer.

7.) 08 Jul 2021 19:16:29
He might not be a greedy fit. He might actually want to come and win major trophies.

8.) 08 Jul 2021 18:08:29
Ed002 if you are about mate can we put these Saul rumours to bed please. Out of reach financially right, and no interest?

{Ed002's Note - Saul Niguez (CM) Nobody will pay his release clause but Atletico could look to a very high fee for a player who has a contract that runs for years in order to get his €300k weekly wage off the books. Bayern Munich's first choice to add for midfield and his agent has spoken with several sides as Atletico want to make very significant savings on salaries and could be forced in to a corner by the player and his agent. But Bayern see his cash price at €60M (or €75M on terms) and wages of €300k as too high and will want to negotiate - they will almost certainly turn elsewhere. He is being offered to the usual suspects who have money - Manchester United (who would need to offload Pogba), Juventus, Manchester City, PSG, Chelsea as a Kovacic replacement - many of which are looking to add a player in his position but his wages are a major issue for most. Atletico have signed his replacement. I am not aware of any approach from Liverpool at this time but he would be an excellent choice but a lot more expensive than other options.}

9.) 08 Jul 2021 21:36:32
There we go people. Out of reach for us and no interest. Sanchez is the one it seems.

10.) 09 Jul 2021 03:42:34
ed2 said he is not aware of interest and would be more expensive. He didn't say we are not interested and can't afford him.

11.) 09 Jul 2021 06:18:34
Exactly faith. If we bought Saul and the window closed with no other signings it would still have been a very good window.

12.) 09 Jul 2021 06:19:45
How can anyone compare the transfer of Fabinho with anyone we’re linked with in the press? Unless my memory has evaporated, but was Fab just signed and announced from nowhere? I don’t recall a two/ three paper chase beforehand?

13.) 09 Jul 2021 14:03:21
Fabinho was not signed out of nowhere. People just remember the things that made a lot of noise. He was signed the summer of 2018. Ed02 had included him in "players of interest" in the previous summer of 2017 (I remember this vaguely), and then the club got him the next summer. There were very few mentions of the interest here or in the media beforehand, but it's still not "out of nowhere".

On the plus side of the current terrible moment for us maybe Gakpo starting to look like a player that we bought from PSV

HOW if anyone wonder? Yeah by simply playing in his original position! WOW who would think of that? Playing player in their favorite position. you know like playing Macca in no.8 position instead of no.6.again WOW luckily KLOPP&PEP got these amazing bit of miracle moment!

On a serious note, hopefully next is Szoboszlai turn.

sepah

1.) 15 Apr 2024 13:08:47
Gakpo is a good player. Nunez I think was a mistake.

{Ed025's Note - give me Nunez over Gakpo any day RR..

2.) 15 Apr 2024 13:33:16
The lad was bought as a left winger we have consistently played him everywhere but left wing an klopp said the other day the experiment of gakpo in midfield was a failiure, szobozlai was bought on the back of playing as a right winger scoring and assisting for 30 goals for leipzig and we play him in midfield.

3.) 15 Apr 2024 13:54:21
Same here Ed25 mate.

{Ed025's Note - for me Salah Nunez brings something different to the table, ok his finishing is pretty poor but he frightens defenders to death mate and it opens doors for the other attackers to get space, Gakpo is decidedly average to me and would not get in any other top 10 team, just my view of course..

4.) 15 Apr 2024 14:00:43
If a massive clear out is carried out this summer. And that’s a big if, although I personally want and expect it. The forward line could be completely refreshed. Salah looks the most likely to leave. The reasons why have been well discussed by a number of us on here already. Diaz could and does look likely to leave. One, to raise funds for a squad refresh. Two, his father has bizarrely been on some sort of press tour about his son wanting to play elsewhere. So it’s all leading to his summer departure. Nunez is a tough one for me. I love his passion, energy and tenacity and I was holding out hope that if he could convert the chances he misses he could easily be a 20 plus league goal striker. But how long am I or we going to keep saying that. He cannot be our main striker because strikers win you games and he ain’t striking. This could go one of two ways, in that Amorim might back his coaching ability in turning things around for the lad and goes onto become that player. Or, and what I see happening is that if we get a bid anywhere in the region we paid for him I see us selling.

I could be completely wrong but I see Amorim, if he is to be our manager - keeping Jota, due to his conversion rate. It will be a big discussion between him, Edwards and Hughes as his injuries are a worry and currently you cannot rely on him to stay fit all season. But there are rumours that Amorim wants to bring Paulo Barreira with him, who is Sporting CP’s injury prevention and conditioning expert and one of Amorim’s trusted guys. Because of that I see Amorim taking a chance on Jota but bringing in a clinical striker who has a good injury record in Viktor Gyokeres. I have gone on about the lad already, and trust me whoever gets him has one hell of a player as he has it all. Pace, is ruthless, clinical, good in the air, strong, both footed, good hold up play and can go long or short. I would feel more than confident going into the season with Gyokeres, Jota and Jayden Danns as our central strikers. Gakpo would be suited as a player competing for the in the left inside forward position in Amorim’s system and would keep him for that reason.

5.) 15 Apr 2024 14:08:39
@Sepah and @Hailstone 100% agree.

Amazing what playing players in their natural position can do. Szobo will explode under Amorim next season. Yes he ain’t playing well but being coached into a Henderson type midfielder and played out of position will do that to you. The guy is a star and will become one of our main players under the right coach and position.

6.) 15 Apr 2024 14:47:18
Not sure how my post above made it to this thread. Was meant for Sepah’s post below.

7.) 15 Apr 2024 15:27:58
@alonso: You miss the whole point of klopp lad, I bet you was calling him a genius at the beginning of the season when we bought szob and probably whined when we bought endo. As for Amorim (if we get him) he not a patch on klopp.

8.) 15 Apr 2024 15:56:44
I’m starting to think Diaz’ dad was kidnapped by barcas president to be honest.
I like Diaz but if he wants out, someone wants him and the club can find someone better (I don’t see him as irreplaceable at all to be honest) then by all means sell him.
From what I can tell he’s not going to be a perfect fit in an Amorim team anyway.
He’s been good but not outstanding since he came in.

9.) 15 Apr 2024 16:18:17
How can you say he's not a patch on club? He's been very successful at Sporting.

10.) 15 Apr 2024 16:43:50
@Scouse John. Two things completely amiss with your post. One, how can you say a manager is not a patch on another one, when one is coming to the tail end of their career and another is starting one, and one may I add that has been successful to date. Two, not hard to click on my profile and go back to when we bought Endo. “I bet you whines when we bought Endo” I was one of the few who backed him to be a success and never said a bad word against him. Assumptions are a funny thing though.

I am not discussing recent poor results, tactics errors etc for the rest of the day out of respect for what this day should really be about. Was a lapse in judgment on my part that I posted anything in the first place regarding recent on field events.

11.) 15 Apr 2024 16:50:45
Gakpo and Nunez are different kinds of players. I'd lke to see them play more together, develop a partnership. Gakpo's game intelligence, touch and finishing is under rated. He finds space and doesn't try to completely leather the ball every time.

I'm also a big fan of captain chaos. He just needs a bit more composure in those crucial moments.

Of course we are all frustrated with not converting chances but we are not far away from completely battering a team when it finally clicks.

12.) 15 Apr 2024 17:02:49
Was Nunez a mistake when he was saving our bacon at Newcastle and at Forrest? Was he a mistake when he has been running himself into the ground chasing lost causes and providing space for other players to run thru create and/ or score?

People can blame missing chances on Nunez's back alone cos clearly he is responsible for the other players missing sitters as well cos that is what "supporting" our players has become. Miss me with that nonsense and wretched scapegoating. Salah had an absolute stinker and Darwin and any other forward outplayed him completely. Is anyone putting all our finishing probs on his back? If the answer is no then it's only fair to apply the same standard to everyone else. Or do we only want fairness when it does not suit our agenda?

13.) 15 Apr 2024 18:36:24
I think Atalanta on Thu might be a good opportunity to take Nunez, Salah and Diaz out of the firing line (no pun intended) and maybe look at starting Gakpo, Jota and Elliot.

It will allow fresh legs and opportunities for those 3 whilst resting the other front 3 (no scapegoating here) .

To be honest Endo and Mac look like they could do with a break as well.

I very much doubt this will happen but its only an opinion before the agenda police turn up and start dishing out on posting advice.

14.) 15 Apr 2024 21:23:40
If we are selling Diaz and Salah, I'd prefer not to rush things in terms of replacements. Wirtz in 2025 is absolutely worth waiting for.

15.) 15 Apr 2024 22:57:52
@Adam. Successful at sporting? Is Akin to Rodgers winning SPL with Celtic. Its a two horse race most years.

16.) 16 Apr 2024 06:50:17
Gakpo is far from average. A 25 yo winger with over 25 international caps, and a goal scoring record of 1 in 3 over his approximately 250 app career?
Nah, he's a good player, who just became another easy target recently, just like Hendo, Jones, and Jota have been before him. No I wouldn't have him above Nunez but there's not many I would to be honest.

Sadly firmino is finished. His performance has been going downward since the winning league season.

Hi guys, I think it will be interesting to know everyone's unpopular/ controversy opinions on current Liverpool Fc.

I'll start with i think the pair of fullback trent and tsimikas is the way foward for this seasons and upcoming seasons.

I just feel that tsimikas possess more threats.

sepah

1.) 19 Jan 2022 05:28:39
Don’t think should be controversial but given some of the comments about him this year, I feel it’s worth saying…

Mane remains the best left winger in the league.

Another one, Gomez (when fit) is the best partner for VVD. They complement each other well and Gomez’ pace is important to prevent counters against our high line.

2.) 19 Jan 2022 07:06:11
Controversial? If we were offered Coutinho-type money for Salah, I’d accept and buy another forward and midfielder.

3.) 19 Jan 2022 07:36:05
Having failed to offload a number of fringe players and paying a lot of money on players whose bodies cannot cope with the Liverpool way of playing/ training, Michael Edwards isn't as good as most fans think.

4.) 19 Jan 2022 12:23:36
Threeps, couldn't agree more there mate. He is responsible for our crap model and the financial mess we are in. Look at our wage bills.

5.) 19 Jan 2022 14:35:34
Can you explain how exactly Edwards is responsible for the “financial mess” we’re in? He’s structured some fantastic deals to help us achieve the holy grail as well as the champions league. Deals for couts, solanke, ibe, Brewster etc were genius. Even his deals for jota and Thiago appear to be fantastic too.

The commercial side of things appear to have improved significantly under his belt too with great sponsorship deals in place.

It’s almost like a global C.V. could be responsible for the lack of finances that everyone cries for.

6.) 19 Jan 2022 19:57:46
FSG are responsible for our model. Edwards worked within the guidelines they would have given him. And did a cracking job of it too.

22 Apr 2021 11:26:00
Just want to change the topic from ESL to the Leeds match. I just rewatch the games and I feel like we should have tried to keep the possessions a bit more instead of continuously trying to score. Especially when we are 1-0 at 80++ minutes

This is very similar to the match against west brom at anfield. Score an early goal, keep losing possessions and they equalize thru corners.

And losing Philips show good he is in Ariel.

sepah

1.) 22 Apr 2021 12:40:25
Don't think wanting to score was the problem as Leeds completely dominated us in 2nd half.

Think with injuries and lost form from our forwards midfield has been our biggest disappoinment this season.

Teams easily pass our midfield like they're not even there.

Going forward Klopp will have to tweak he's formation coz Thiago can't run box to box, not athletic, lacks pace and not a good tackler at all, with our current system we just keep on exposing him.

Next season 4231 is our best bet to go which will solve Fermino and Thiago position together.

2.) 22 Apr 2021 13:02:14
We had at least 3 glorious opportunities to put the game to bed. Jota missed the target with a free header from a corner. Then Robertson got basic pass all wrong on the counter attack when he just had to slip his mate in but massively over hit it. Then there was the one when Meslier kicked it straight to Salah who despite a dreadful first touch still managed to set it inside the last defender before inexplicably hammering it back towards the near post straight into the defender.

Easy to blame the tactics/ defence for leaking 1 goal, but fact is we should've been out of sight by that point. Terrible finishing/ decision making has blighted us this entire season. That was Mane's first league goal since January.

3.) 22 Apr 2021 13:52:43
Felt like we needed Fabinho in the midfield in the second half. the game just progressively got further and further out of control. A shame we didn't have Phillips. But then again, going back to the idea that we just play a lemon at CB so we can play Fabs in midfield, then perhaps we could have thrown someone else at CB just to push him forward.

4.) 22 Apr 2021 14:01:28
Agree totally. But we have to be grateful of finally scoring a goal in the first half at least!
A bit more of the same, with a little bit of luck in front of goal, this weekend and we should be fine?
Fingers crossed.

5.) 22 Apr 2021 14:56:04
To be honest, I thought we were very fortunate to come away with a point cos w/ o Allisson in goal, Leeds would have scored 3 goals easily before the chances MK S talked about even happened.

6.) 22 Apr 2021 16:00:20
OilRed - for me, I don't like that kind of analysis. creating and giving away chances is a part of the game as much is scoring and saving them. Fortunate or earned, we could go either way. We were unfortunate to not beat Real Madrid the other day as we could and should have romped it in the first half. But in reality, we got what we deserved. even if in this game it felt like we were holding on for that point. we earned it!

13 Apr 2021 11:49:14
I don't mind playing trent at the midfield if we still have ki-jana

When is the last time we scored from outside the box.

What happen to this season is because we too reliant in open play types of goal. We need to be able to score in different kind of goal.

sepah

1.) 13 Apr 2021 12:41:27
90th minute Saturday scored from outside the box.

2.) 13 Apr 2021 13:01:51
Its a shame Ox has been injured and lost form, he is the only player I've seen in the team that drives with the ball and has a shot on him.

3.) 13 Apr 2021 13:46:17
Contrary to popular belief, very few goals are scored from outside the box. We were a bit spoiled with Gerrard and then Coutinho back to back.

Trent will find a role natural to him one day. He's still only 22. Carragher was playing left back, right, centre mid etc. Took years to establish himself at centre back. Gerrard was playing left mid, right mid, right back, centre mid etc. He was about 26 when he finally settled in just behind Torres.

Patience is a virtue.

4.) 13 Apr 2021 14:03:26
Not disagreeing with you but I can only remember Gerrard playing right mid, center mid and then attacking mid. I am getting on a bit so my memory is getting worse.

5.) 13 Apr 2021 14:24:55
Pretty sure that the guy (Klopp) who created Trent and created a position and system for him to thrive in, must have known that Trent could not play in the midfield he wanted to deploy the very first times he saw him play in the youth team at LFC.

If Klopp thought Trent could play in midfield, surely he would have been playing there years ago instead of at RB so not sure why this is such a discussion warranting this type of attention.

6.) 13 Apr 2021 14:02:00
In terms of carragher ed1, did you rate him as a player? I always feel like he was almost rated more after he retired but actually wasn't that great. I may be wrong of course but just curious. I don't particularly like the person.

{Ed001's Note - he gave everything to the cause but he lacked pace and could be bullied by strong forwards. I loved him when he played for us, but mainly because he was from the end of the road, so would regularly bump into him at Sullys usually. He was always a nice lad back then, would chat footie for hours. But looking back, much as I was blinded by him being local and giving everything for the club, he was just a very good solid centre-back, rather than a great one. If he wasn't giving 110% for the cause in every match, I doubt if he would have made it at all with Liverpool. Good enough for the Prem, yes, but not for a team trying to win trophies without that heart and desire. I doubt he would have made it if he was to emerge now though.}

7.) 13 Apr 2021 15:37:17
I think even Carragher acknowledges he was a good centre back not a great one, he was always behind the likes of Ferdinand and Terry in the England pecking order but he definitely made the most of his career.

8.) 13 Apr 2021 15:43:21
I remember Ron Yeats claiming that Gerard was the best right back in England after only making a few appearances for Liverpool. He was probably correct too.

9.) 13 Apr 2021 15:58:18
Would people not agree Hendo has made a career at Liverpool by being the same kind of player? By being solid rather than great and giving 110% for the cause in every match being probably the main reason he's made it at Liverpool. This is not me having a knock Hendo day, im dying for him to be back in the team but Hendo would not go down as as good a player for Lfc as Carragher was in my opinion. there's certainly no shame in being behind Terry and Ferdinand, and for a couple of years (2005,2006)he was probably their equal.

{Ed001's Note - Henderson is a far better player than Carragher, there is no comparison in that respect imo. I can't understand how you think there is a comparison.}

10.) 13 Apr 2021 16:57:40
I can't understand how you dont, different players for different positions but Carra in his prime was a top top centrehalf. opinions i suppose but Carragher was superb in Liverpools European runs of the mid noughties and most weekends aswell. Neither probably remembered as GREAT players but both good 100% givers. think personal likes or dislikes of players sometimes effect peoples statements.

11.) 13 Apr 2021 17:07:55
Heidi's technical ability is actually quite good. Not sure where the apprehension about his ability has come from in the first place.
He is arguably top 5 at the club right now in terms of technical ability.

12.) 13 Apr 2021 18:59:45
Indian Buzzer, why are you bringing the Sugar Babes into the discussion? I know our late 90's acadeny lot looked like a bad boyband, but that's still a stretch to make comparisons with Heidi Range. Even if she is a Scouser.

13.) 13 Apr 2021 19:07:42
Jason havertz are you on something comparing hendo to carra 😂😂 I can't stop laughing at that one they are in no way alike at all.

14.) 13 Apr 2021 20:08:34
Carragher would have been top class had he been four inches taller or four yards quicker.

{Ed001's Note - or stronger.}

15.) 13 Apr 2021 20:48:21
How so Jurgen? hit me with the Wisdom.

16.) 13 Apr 2021 21:11:51
Mate they are in no single way alike with maybe the exception that they do both give their all. There are players that play for cliftonville and give their all are they very alike to top players?

For starters one is a center back and the other is a center midfielder.

Carra gave his all but was not technically gifted and far from it. Had no pace, not great physically, in other positions not great positionally but he wore his heart on his sleeve.

Henderson is very technically gifted, does have a bit of pace about him, he doesn't get bullied by anyone and can play allot of positions very well.

From what I also see henderson is a great captain a great motivator, always keeping players in position telling the team when to go and when not to go etc where carra seemed to just shout at players I don't think he would have been a great captain.

I just don't see what your seeing mate.

17.) 13 Apr 2021 21:33:32
Ed did you mean Sullies the club on Stanley road or the Solly, the boozer he used, and still does drink at on Marsh Lane?

{Ed001's Note - the club mate, I never went in the Solly as it had always been for blues.}

18.) 13 Apr 2021 22:02:16
I see Jurgen, thanksfor pointing out they play different positions bud. Whatever was i thinking.

19.) 13 Apr 2021 22:14:09
Hendo and Carry should never b mentioned in the same sentence when comparing them in terms of technical ability. Carra was nowhere near Hendo’s technical ability on the ball.

20.) 13 Apr 2021 22:30:55
I thought Carra was a great player. I remember him winning nearly every ball and tackle he went for. Not too gone on him on Sky and the spitting incident was reprehensible but he’d definitely get in our team under Jurgen if he was 20 odd now.

21.) 14 Apr 2021 08:19:49
i actually always thought carra, for all his short comeings, made the most out of hw he hd. i felt his organization of the back line sans Hypia was one of his strongest qualities?

22.) 14 Apr 2021 08:41:01
TBH Carra was all about his mental attributes, not his physical ones, very limited player who was moved around alot, wasnt a great centre mid, wasnt a great left back but had a top partner in big Sami at the back, good organizer and talker though.

Agreed mfahmee2, hopefully it's not just for Klopp, it's a lesson learned for the club and future staff/ manager as well on how they should plan on the rebuild process.

Especially when you need to rebuild from successful gen of players and team. They really need to be really objective and critical as much as possible.

If we use the front three againt chelsea, salah should start in the middle of the three.
