As well as attacking midfielder Xavier Parker (16, Man City), Liverpool are also now looking likely to sign winger Josh Chigwada (14, Everton) and goal keeper Zach Trinder (14, Wolves).

I'm all for strengthening the academy, but it would be nice to find some talent of our own rather than just stealing everybody else's.

Agree17 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 09:43:39
Luca Eden and Josh Abe are two of the biggest talents in the country, Shipley, been there since they were babies. I quite like what we’re doing, picking up some of the best talents in the country. People always worry about homegrown quotas, the academy is where we should be filling that quota from.

Ignoring club loyalties, anyone worried about the trade in kids being exploitative? Feels to me like they should stay at home until they are 18.

Agree25 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 10:02:59
100% agree, SK. Is that not what the academy is for. 🤷‍♂️

Agree4 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 10:25:06
It feels wrong that football has got to a point where we are talking about people who have just hit puberty.

I don't think teams should be able to sign people who are yet to finish school.

Of course there are areas where it can be beneficial for the person. Say, for example, someone in poverty, who could benefit from a deal resulting in a change in financial situation.

Agree7 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 10:43:24
Am I right in saying there used to be a certain distance from the club you could sign youth players from? Unless you moved their family up? Ah, look, it's been going on years. Wasn't Messi brought over to La Masia at 13 from Argentina?

16 Jun 2026 11:42:09
So are we buying a new academy at this rate?

The PSG youth coach that we poached is supposed to be a miracle worker, which is partly why we are stacking up these young players.
Rio's cameos this season have signalled that the pathways to our first team are open.

The % of young players who actually make the grade is ridiculously small, but at least we are finally in the game. Our youth ranks will be packed with hyped youngsters.

Scouse J, ... Seen a bit of him the other day, he does remind me of Gerrard.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 18:04:48
Personally, I think we should start collecting the sperm of our best talents while they're in their prime so we can make an entire squad of test-tube super players. They'll never leave Liverpool if the club is technically their parent!

That way we don't even have to 'steal' talent off their parents either and we'll be able to call them real Liverpool-bred players.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 00:34:00
According to several reports, Schlotterbeck's release clause is between £43-£51m. Absolute steal for that price and I hope the club gets it done. It's active from this summer and only a few clubs with us being one.

Rumours Gakpo has the interest of several clubs including AC Milan, Leipzig, Spurs, Atletico Madrid, Bayern, Villa. I think the club will keep him but if an offer comes in at the club's valuation of £60-£65m, then we will sell.

I think we are going to get nunez for free put him on the left and cash in on gackpo while his stock is somewhat high.
I still think getting elliott back will save us so much money on RW and we can have salah back for one final dance (if it works financially)

I also think one of the reason salah got so messed up was that we sold nunez and elliott despite both players being absolute professionals and committed to the club. Both nunez and elliott bleed LFC and we desperately needed such charisma around the team last year
I think the club is trying to make amends for last season window where we went a bit too overboard and let players go who were willing to stay and fight for it.
One of the biggest reasons we fell last reason was tactics and team lacked any fight.
It seems far fetched I know but getting nunez elliot and if possible salah back and signing a new RB and DM is the best plan next season. The same team won the league a season ago. You don't sell players that make notable contributions to a title win. It also gives kids like rio abde best chance to grow.

And actually eliott and nunez are probably the most pressing attackers you can get! And both are free for us!
Put isak in front and wirtz behind and its a formidable attack

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 10:01:33
The last season we won the League, we played Gakpo on the left, Salah on the right and Diaz through the middle; well, for the most part of the second half of the season. Jota also featured. I don't think Nunez and Elliott started that many games.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 10:10:51
Darwin started 8 league games and Harvey two in 24/25.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 11:14:19
Florian's correct; Slot was not a fan of Darwin, that was clear from the get-go, he was essentially 3rd choice striker behind Jota and Diaz, had Jota not got injured, Nunez might not have had any league starts at all.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 11:36:35
I think we sold him because there were players available who were better, and there was a good offer on the table. In terms of a bench or rotation option, he's decent though, and actually scored a few important goals even though he missed a lot of chances as well.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 12:15:26
2 questionable posts from Thristforwirtz in a row. First, citing Collins as a potential Virg replacement and then this absolute wham above.

Agree4 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 13:01:02
Collins is miles better than Nico. But, of course, fans want shiny shiny new stuff than people who will do the job in every game without much glamour.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 18:14:52
That is a smart move, sell Gakpo for 60m and bring Darwin back for free. Total 120m made in process (made 60m from Darwin sell). I like this way of Madrid style business.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 19:53:02
Personally I'd have Darwin over Gakpo any day of the week, none of them have the best scoring records but Darwin offers more than Gakpo in every other way and think regardless of playing on the left or centre he would link up well with Wirtz and score plenty of goals.

I'd sell Mac to fund a decent dm if we can find one, if not then personally I'd give Endo more of a chance - not the biggest or the best but reminds me abit of a terrier full of energy, and he seems to play with more urgency than the rest, possibly other than Dom, plus has a good attitude and can drop back to help in defence when needed to, and could provide time for youngsters to develop and get game time in the cups. Either way Mac needs to go.

I'd probably keep Elliot too as 2nd choice atleast for another season as no chance of Salah coming back.

He'd demand the exact same high wages and would demand to be the star of the team again.

I also think this season we need to see the transition of VVD/x player partnership and test a Leoni and Jacquet partnership if and where we can.

Lastly, and not lastly, I'd make Dom VC, already has experience of being captain, one to hopefully stick around for a while and last year showed he was the only one willing to pull his socks up.

I honestly think Slot was so detrimental to the team and the players' confidence, so I think to judge players on last season or who he preferred is a little unfair so I'd rather judge them on Klopp's opinion of them or by next season.

@Ed78. I know, I knew the answer before I wrote the question.

@ Keegans purm, I can and do read the internet and see the made up transfer fees put up there. It's 99.9% rubbish and I find it funny that people pass made up numbers on here based upon myopic onanists who don't get out much. Latest rumour is Elliot to be used in a deal for Bouaddi. With Lille wanting £60m, we are trying to get the price down. Club value Elliot at £25-£30m. Could also be used in the Diomande deal, as Leipzig previously liked Elliot.

Prem clubs interested apparently are:
Leeds
Coventry
Ipswich
Sunderland.

Agree14 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 06:13:47
I felt that Nunez failed to live up to the expectations when he signed for us. City paid less in transfer fee to get Haaland. That season was supposed to be Nunez vs Haaland, but we all know how that ended up.

Personally, I don't think we should go back for Nunez.

He's also very hot-headed and prone to get red cards. However, having said that, if Iraola wants him in, I'm sure he has a plan to make Nunez successful the 2nd time around.

If he does come back, I hope he can redeem himself.

Agree10 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 06:55:09
Was that not a clause in Haalands contract? In fairnesss ye'd be looking at £200m for Haaland.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 08:15:19
Harvey elliott should be playing for Liverpool. True Liverpool inside and out are the kind of players we need. Give the lad a proper chance.
These bouaddi and diamondes are not going to work when the foundation of team is not right.
At the moment apart from vvd and jones do we have a player in that team that bleeds LFC like eliott and nunez used to! Like bobby used to? Like milner and hendo used to? Like robbo used to? That is what we are missing. You need 5-6 players in team that will do anything for the club and manager.

Sign a RB and proper DM ( not a kid with one excellent display) and close this window out with elliott and nunez on free. We desperately need strong characters that love this club inside out for all its rights and wrongs.
I could be wrong but i'd rather be wrong on free rather be wrong on 200M spent.

Agree9 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 10:03:00
As far as I can remember, Nunez got 1 red card for headbutting Anderson in his first home game. Emotions were high, and he got frustrated. It happens.

Other than that, though, how many other red cards did he get for you to say he's 'prone' to getting red cards?

Agree8 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 11:24:04
We might value Harvey at £30m, but Lille certainly don't. You'd be lucky if they knocked £15m off for him tbh. Seems we're desperate to offload a kid who had bags of potential. Would be better off bringing him back for a season to get his profile up before moving him on.

No more mickey mouse deals either, just a straight sale. We've put a massive dent in the poor kid's career with that stupid Villa deal.

Riosstepover, great headbutt.

He couldn't hit a barn door at times, but I could actually understand it as a depth option, especially if we sell Fede, for example.

@Carra, do you expect many incomings this summer?

I assume we are going by order of priority position, so first of all trying to sort out the wing option then moving depending on starting 11 order of priority?

At the very least, he's entertaining and we have been bored to death for too long.

Agree15 Disagree0

15 Jun 2026 22:33:40
Love to bring him back. Less pressure, no transfer fee, Spanish coach, and can play left wing or back up striker.

Agree12 Disagree0

15 Jun 2026 22:40:32
I'm not sure about this one. He was such a frustrating player. Klopp frequently picked others ahead of him and used to talk a lot about him needing to improve his pressing. He clearly has the physical tools to press like a monster. He just needs the other piece.

On the other hand, depending on the wages, on a free transfer, it could be a good option.

He would provide cover through the centre, but I think he could do well coming inside from left. He obviously has pace to burn and he's aggressive, which we lacked virtually all last season. If we could effectively swap him into the squad for Chiesa, that is an upgrade imo. I think I may have convinced myself in the process of writing this...

Agree8 Disagree0

15 Jun 2026 22:54:15
Massive fan of him. Hope he comes back. He's a constant reminder of what damage stats do to the perception of players. I adored Kuyt when he played for us but I can't imagine the abuse the lad would have gotten in this day and age purely because he was simply average at finishing.

But what he brought in the rest of his game was immense. Darwin is energy and mayhem. Can't imagine any manager (apart from Slot) not seeing the value in him. Now, on the flipside, do think Salif Diao was an underrated gem that never got a real chance, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Agree10 Disagree0

15 Jun 2026 23:11:39

Agree6 Disagree0

15 Jun 2026 23:41:21
Sorry. I must be getting old, and my memory must be going... Nunez... a pressing monster??? I didn't see him that way. And saying he was not able to hit a barn door is actually incorrect. He was the absolute master at hitting woodwork.

Ps comparing Kuyt to him. Please... Kuyt could finish.

15 Jun 2026 23:55:26
I'm in the bring Nunez back camp, however, after watching the first half of their opening WC game, I'm not so sure!

Agree4 Disagree0

15 Jun 2026 23:57:24
I'm watching him for Uruguay right now. No thanks. Has everyone lost their minds and forgotten how dreadful a finisher he was? Let alone how often he drifted offside. I'm sure there are far better options.

Agree4 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 00:23:03
NoMoreBoom, appreciate your memory but I have to disagree and say Kuyt was a dodgy finisher at best. I love the lad- but finishing was absolutely not his strongest trait in my very humble opinion. But that wasn't the point of my post. My point was, statistically he was distinctly average number-wise, but wow- as a player for a team he was outstanding. He brought more than just finishing. And while I do not think they are the same players at all, my point is that stats today frequently mar what a player can bring beyond numbers.

But look- I'm old and I still remember when football was good and World Cups were something to enjoy and not something to be endured like this absolute horror show on TV right now- so there's really little point in taking what I say with any merit. Again- I can't believe nobody even jumped on my Salif Diao quote.

Agree5 Disagree0

15 Jun 2026 22:43:21
Madmax
You need a crash course in how to support your team. Nunez missed chances, all strikers do, but he was nowhere near as bad as you're trying to make out. 40 goals in 143 appearances is not bad, considering he didn't play the full game in a lot of them.

One thing I do know us that we haven't replaced what Nunez brought to the team, in his pressing, occupying defenders and creating space for others, Salah in particular.

Agree8 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 06:39:34
Statistically, he wasn't the best at finishing, but the guy actually hit a lot of goal posts and had some ridiculous saves made against him. I always felt he was unlucky to not get more. Besides that issue, he created a lot of chaos through his pace, energy and physicality, and was one of the few players we had that could change up a game.

I'd happily take him back as a backup striker/left wing over Gakpo and Chiesa.

Agree5 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 07:02:20
The return of Captain Chaos makes a lot of sense in the context of what the new manager may be looking for - "...if I have to choose between those two elements, organisation and chaos, I choose the chaos over the organisation."

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 09:00:00
I get all the stress over Nunez's potential return, he gave me the horrors in the end too! But, for me, it's all about sorting your priorities.

We're talking about a temporary 2nd choice (soon to be 3rd choice) striker once Ekitike is fit. He's an international striker with a compatible style and work rate that potentially compliments the new manager's style.

If signing Darwin on a free leaves us with enough cash to be able to afford other more important additions like Diomande, Barcola, Wharton etc, then I'm right behind it.

Start looking elsewhere for a stand in striker, and you are potentially cutting your budget by at least £20-30m.

Agree6 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 09:10:10
Nunez was rubbish. He hasn't changed. Just nonsense to reemploy him.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 10:05:10
Salif Diao was terrible.
Carragher even encouraged him to sign for Everton!

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 12:18:40
@aoe, So if you had a choice, peak Kuyt or Nunez, who would you pick? My point is not about Kuyt, it's about the fact that Nunez, for 90% of the time for us, was brutal. From very early days, I called him 'barn door'. After we sold him, he was so bad, in a poor league, that he got dropped from the entire squad. Last night was his first start for club and country in 4 months, and the entire team played better when he was hooked.

If that is not enough to convince you all that this would be a waste of money on wages, then think how lucky he was not to get a ban after he went into the crowd and started fighting people. Nunez to Liverpool? Seriously..... the best thing for us was the fee we got when we sold him. Need to pray this doesn't happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 19:14:33
90% is kind of a stretch.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jun 2026 20:05:48

So people were asking Romano about Nunez and he says his sources close to the player, National side and Liverpool say there is no chance at him returning at this moment in time. Goes on to say if it changes, he will let us know. Seems like someone who doesn't know and is guessing. Will trust Victor, Robbo and Carra first.

Agree10 Disagree0

15 Jun 2026 20:10:54
'Here we go, Romano' is essentially rent a tweet for clubs and rarely breaks anything that isn't already well known. Rarely pay any attention to him anymore personally.

Agree10 Disagree0

15 Jun 2026 20:50:45
This is the same Romano who kept saying we were keeping Arne Slot until about two hours before we announced his sacking, whilst Carra, Ned, Robbo, Thefields etc. were saying for months he was a gonner.

Romano may still have contacts in the game, but he plays ultra safe with his calls on things these days.

If Nunez is coming back, we won't get the "Here we go!" until he's sitting down at the press conference where his signing is announced.

As you say, he doesn't know.

Agree9 Disagree0

Cookie Monster,

Many journalists were genuinely told Slot was staying right up to 24 hours before Arne was sacked, but check my posts, Matt did also tell me that FSG cannot ignore the noise/ common sense!

This is a rumours message board, football at the elite level are multi billion pound businesses so things change! Credit to the ITKs on here for being ahead of the curve!

HNID...No need to explain yourself, mate.

Thanks for sharing your info...keep it coming, mate.

That's exactly it, OliRed! I came back from the Brentford game fairly sure Arne was gone because of how he distanced himself from everything on the bench!

However, I won't piggyback on other people's information!

Who is Matt Smith?
Excuse my ignorance.

Used to be Dr Who, Grino.

I am Twitter mates with Matt Smith from TNT and occasionally LFC TV. That is the last time I am saying it LOL!

Glad Carra, Robbo and Vic back up what I was told earlier.

Not close, but a plausible "I heard"! I am surprised Edwards and Hughes would go there, to be honest, but it makes sense as a 3rd 9 who can cut in from the left if need be! Maybe they are looking to cash in their chips on Gakpo?

I asked Matt how likely it was, and I said Romano had played it down, but no response as yet!

Richard Hughes is meant to be going to the Saudi team that LFC sold Nunez to, right?

I would suspect Darwin has been discussed as a short term cover until Hugo is back?! 2 year deal or something.

Only way Nunez comes back is to play RB. His shooting is like a cross, so that could work.

Uruguayan journalist Juan Pablo Romero is claiming Darwin will sign for Liverpool after the World Cup, contract details yet to be finalised.

He needs to polish that banjo, maybe Iraola can get him to hit that cow's arse. I am looking forward to it.

Iraola will need to polish a turd. Never easy that.

Really don't understand the hate Nunez gets. I would take him back any day. No, he's not a great finisher, but he scored several important goals for us, gave 100% every game, seems to genuinely love playing at the club.

Take him as an impact sub, cover for anywhere along the front line. Salah said he loved playing with him.

@SA, You don't get the 'hate' because there isn't any. Personally, I don't rate him as a striker trying to play at the top level of the game. For me, his primary talent seems to be running about a lot and, I think we need more than that in a genuinely top CF.

I've never met the bloke, so can't comment on him as a person - he might be a really decent fella. I don't think he's a very good footballer but that's not a reason to 'hate' him or anybody else.

@WDW, He climbed into the stand and started throwing punches... granted, he missed with all of them, which just highlights why we should not have him back. So I agree, not hate, just that it makes no sense at all.

Sorry gents.

Forget to mention.

Liverpool may well be looking to triggering the release clause for Nico Schlotterbeck.

PSG are also in the mix, along with Real Madrid, but the options Madrid have I'd doubt it.

Cheers.

Yes, would be happy with him, doesn't he have a clause allowing to leave for a reduced fee?

Anything on Palestra Robbo or Diomande?

Thanks.

Looks good in the air from watching my first World Cup game last night, well, half hour of it till I switched off.
Can't wait for the WC to be done + new prem season to start !!!

This would be a necessary move in my eyes, we may be well stacked with talented young CBs, but they're still very young. A proper senior CB would be ideal. Bastoni or Schlotterbeck, either I would be happy with.

We need somebody who can seamlessly take the reins from Virgil. Waiting to replace him in a year's time is far too risky imo. Bringing them in this year gives them time to assimilate whilst learning from the best.

Was about to post saying we should activate it. Isn't it like £50m, which is a bargain? A left footed lcb.

If we sign Schlotterbeck, does that mean that VVD leaves this season?

Both will be starting CBs, unless VVD moves to RCB.

JLC, I asked that question of Ed001 a few days ago. He suggested that if we signed a peak LCB that Virgil may just be phased out.

Looking at our options, Jacquet will be coming in - albeit will need preseason given his shoulder injury in Feb.

Leoni is only due back now and will need some time to get up to speed given the nature of his injury.

I think Schlotterbeck and Virg (if Nico came in) would be a starting partnership, but that would mean Virg going RCB potentially.

Virgil would play ahead of Schlotterbeck. Still a top centreback.
