It would be nice to see some movement in the positions that we very much need. Hughes does scare me a little bit with his approach to transfer markets. Seems to buy a little randomly without a thought to filling out the positions of need.

Like, who is our RB target? Then it's like Djed Spence reaches out. Oh, market opportunity, bingo.

That's not how you fill a position that is a priority.

I know I need to hang tough, because until I see what happens in the remainder of the window, criticism can be unfair. But, needless to say, Hughes and Woodfine need to get a serious move on. CB, RB, 2 wingers, if Gakpo leaves, an absolute necessity. Surprised how little we've done to this point.

We seem to be very reactive to players (their agents or their clubs) becoming available, instead of having proactive targets that we are going for and getting done.

This was already brought to the fore when we spent a lot on 2x CF, when it always looked as though we would play one supported by wide men.

Ekitike cost £69million, which is a sizeable amount for a "back up".



Add in Wirtz, when we had Szob, arguably, in that position anyhow, and we looked clueless - it literally looked like signing players and then working out what to do with them.

Alexa, I disagree. Barcola signing does not block Rio at all. He is the best available on the market and he wants us. Yes, we ideally need a rw, but the market options are limited.

Rio is still young, growing and unproven.

Last season he couldn't play a full 90, so he has much to improve and much to learn. He can be used both rw & lw, but in my opinion he is not yet ready to be the main guy.

I like our the guys that post info but there's no way Barcola is "done". It may be close and I think it happens but look at Paul Joyce's two recent articles. That's club messaging - it's negotiating tactics.
I'm sure Mbaye is a geniune target alongside Barcola (and I think we need both) but I also think he's also being used to show PSG that we can move on from Barcola if they don't budge.



My feeling is the relationship between us and PSG is not unhealthy, we are allowing them to get their business done and we will pay a fair fee for Barcola (I think it will land around 110-115) but if PSG don't budge from 140 then we will take our money and move on. I think we are still at that stage.

@Skezza is right. Blowing millions on a position we don't need is crazy. World class wingers cannot swap wings and be as competent, they just can't, and aren't. They are world class in their position, not in numerous positions, so you play them where they play best.

We should have just stumped up the money for Diomande, end of. But we tried to play it clever (and we did, despite the shenanigans of his entourage), and it's come back to bite us.



It is well known our recruitment is amongst the worst in the Premiership, and everybody should be able to see why. Another s*** show, and it will continue to be until we get a proper decent recruitment team who know what they are doing.

I still don't think we will sign Barcola. And I still think we will nip in and buy Diomande.

Rio is probably 2 seasons away from being able to start as a regular, and that is dependent on him making significant improvements in his overall game both offensively and defensively. He is a real talent, but that's all as things stand.

Our recruitment was great when we moved on from deals we felt financially didn't make sense, but recently it has been all desperate moves where we have overpaid for all players, Florian, Isak, Darwin. Our biggest mistake was not hold on to Luiz Diaz.

I personally believe the ITKs on the Barcola deal. It suits both clubs to agree and not announce. PSG will want to do business without everyone knowing they have the Barcola money, Liverpool want to do business without everyone thinking they're throwing money around.

I like that our transfer business seems to be behind closed doors again, and think the Barcola chase is 'public' to show some commitment to the player.

Rio is a kid, exciting on the ball, yes, but I have seen nothing to understand the confidence people have in him. But want to sell Gakpo.
I know who I'll be backing to score and assist more this season, whatever club they play for.
Barcola is an international player, so far ahead of Rio in his development as a senior player, and of course he can play anywhere across the front line.

I think, because we've been so used to watching Salah on the right and that he would never play left wing, fans have forgotten there are different ways to play football. Salah couldn't, but Mane could play either side.

Also forget about the money. Football is monopoly. And what, from the massive fees we've spent on players over the past few years, suggests we don't have money.
