If virgil and salah are signing, they must be happy with the project going forwards and the potential summer targets.

Surly signing to continue winning ways over the next 2 years.

I think we're looking at 4, nunez and diaz to leave, 50/ 50 on konate and elliot.

MegAlanna

1.) 10 Apr 2025 08:32:45
I don't think Elliott will leave. I think he'll do everything he can to stay even if he has to dig his heels in a refuse a move. He loves the club so much and backs his own ability. I think he's a good impact sub to have and he helps with the HG quota from next season.

2.) 10 Apr 2025 09:12:27
Trent goes and Robbo is sold and we may have zero British players in the first 11.

3.) 10 Apr 2025 09:40:08
Or their families are settled and we have agreed to pay them 300k a week and big signing on fee. Could be nothing to do with the project they have or haven’t been sold.

4.) 10 Apr 2025 09:48:55
Its a shame we don't have many UK players in there, I like to see us develop players to make it to the England squad.
Any u21's you see stepping up next year Ed001? Maybe Mcconnell? or you think he'll get a loan.

{Ed001's Note - I think McConnell could make it but I expect him to go on loan. The rest need time still.}

5.) 10 Apr 2025 10:07:26
In fairness Brummy Salah in particular has probably turned down insane money, probably something like £2m a weekto stay here.

6.) 10 Apr 2025 10:10:18
Minor point, but "UK" or "British" players don't help our HG quota - for example, Robbo is not HG as he spent his early career in Scotland not England.

Interestingly, players like Bellingham, Sancho and Gittens also do not qualify as HG despite the fact they are English as they didn't spend 3 years between the ages of 16-21 at a club in the English leagues.

Currently we have Jaros, Kelleher, Gomez, Trent, Jones and Morton as HG players, hence our squad is 23.

Next season, Quansah, Bradley and Elliot will all also qualify as HG as they will no longer count as U21. I could also see Beck added to the first team squad and he would also count as HG. A shame that Bajcetic isn't able to 'grow up' (if reports are to be believed) as he would also count as HG and could be a useful option in midfield. McConnell, who Ed001 mentioned above, is still U21 for one more season.

As another postedr pointed out a day or two ago, Slot doesn't seem to use his whole squad - albeit that may be as the vast majority of players were here when he joined - so having fewer HG players and therefore a smaller squad may not be that bad.

7.) 10 Apr 2025 10:46:52
Can forgive Slot for not rotating his squad this season. But I think he would know by now that this league is extremely challenging and he would need to cleverly rotate his squad.

Leaders likè Alli, Vvd, Salah and Robbo won't be sold.

So expecting quality to come in.

8.) 10 Apr 2025 10:56:31
Also, we can have as many U21 players in the squad as we want, so if we buy any U21 players this summer, they can be added to the squad regardless of nationality. They will eventually end up taking up a non-HG berth, but that's another season's problem!

Hato and Gittens have been linked recently. Neither would end up being HG but Gittens has 1 season as an U21 to go, Hato has 3.

9.) 10 Apr 2025 11:14:21
We need to step up our academy production. Arsenal have had Saka, Nwaneri, Lewis Skelly and even made great money on smith rowe, nketiah to name a few . We haven’t had anyone since Trent how many years ago. Could argue Bradley but pretty sure we brought him in.

10.) 10 Apr 2025 12:26:24
Brummy, our academy has produced Jones, Morton and Quansah since Trent came through. Jones is definitely a first team regular, Quansah is competing to start, but sadly Morton is nothing more than a squad player. But they've all been with us from 6-8 years old.

Bradley, Elliott and Kelleher are regular first team players, but were all signed around 15 years old. Debateable if that still counts as an academy graduate. Kelleher is almost certain to leave.

Nallo, Nyoni, McConnell, Ngumoha, Doak, Beck and Bajcetic were all bought around 12-16 years old so we probably can't count them either to be fair if any of them do make the breakthrough. I'm expecting Doak, Beck and Bajcetic to be sold to be honest. The rest will probably get loans or Carabao cup games.

The next crop of youngsters who have actually come right through the academy from 6-8 years old are Danns, Koumas and Chambers. I actually think Koumas is the most likely to make it at Liverpool of these 3 despite being the least hyped purely because his body seems more up to it. He's played 2800 minutes this season for Stoke and has 6 goals and 3 assists. Danns and Chambers can't even stay fit which is a worry. Chambers has played 1000 minutes across 12 games for Wigan and then missed the whole season virtually with a back injury. Danns meanwhile hasn't made a single appearance since joining Sunderland in January.

11.) 10 Apr 2025 12:29:29
I don't understand the general obsession with Diaz leaving: proven international player in relatively low wages (room for a not too much improved salary) who plays with a chip on his shoulder, and more importantly the only guy who can break defenders 1on1 / off the dribble in the squad.

12.) 10 Apr 2025 13:33:48
The issue seems to be that he is, through his Dad, flirting with other sides where he would prefer to ply his trade - Real Madrid and especially Barca.

He would definitely be in the mix with Konate as deserving a significant uplift on his wages (he's on £55k and Konate on around £75-£80k which puts them further down the pecking order than other first team players), other than the fact that he seems to want to leave.

If he wants to leave then why would the club commit to spending more per week on him rather than looking for a move? He still has 2 years left on his contract so I would see this window as being key.

If he does want to go to Barcelona (who are very tight for cash! ) I have seen some tabloid reports mooting a 'swap' deal (of sorts) . Not an actual player swap but buying/ selling players for a similar or the same amount. A couple of options at Barcelona would be Aruajo or even De Jong (yes, he's paid loads, so if he's not prepared to lower his demands, we won't go for him! ) .

Another very tantalising story is has been hinted at a couple of times that Yamal wants more opportunity! Wouldn't that be a recruit?! Obvs he would command more than Diaz.

13.) 10 Apr 2025 13:44:47
Sorry, the Yamal issue is not due to his opportunities, but due to Barca's financial issues. Like I said, a miniscule chance, but you can dream!

14.) 10 Apr 2025 14:07:53
Thanks Zed, forgot about the HG rules!

Back when I had more time I used to catch all the u21/ u18 games, but after getting excited over players like Sinclair, morgan, ibe etc it got a bit old!

15.) 10 Apr 2025 15:08:06
Dean, or my favourite academy prospect (who came to nothing but at least he scored a screamer against Arsenal IIRC) was the one and only Neil Mellor!

Breaking all of God's records for fun in the age groups, but wasn't quite there at first team level.

{Ed001's Note - his attitude was not that great with Mellor. Remember him being the one going whoring with Rooney, when Rooney famously banged the geriatric hooker. Mellor was there bragging about how many goals he scored for the reserves. He thought he was already a star.}

16.) 10 Apr 2025 15:33:43
Didn't know that Ed001, that's a shame. He seemed to have it all when coming up through the ranks - wasn't that quick but had the build of a Shearer. Really had high hopes, but if the six inches between the ears are missing, then you're up against it!

{Ed001's Note - I know, it's the lack of that which has led to me ending up doing this rather than being able to get a proper job!}

17.) 10 Apr 2025 15:51:45
Same with Rooney, Ed001, albeit he was also missing 6 inches elsewhere too which was why he was chasing grannies!

18.) 10 Apr 2025 16:10:45
Not a bad shout with Aruajo. I had heard some rumours from Barcelona that he is Anfield bound in the summer.

19.) 11 Apr 2025 01:29:32
I think the rumour was he was going to swap clubs with Diaz.

30 May 2022 22:54:02
Little list from what I can find for anyone interested.

Arnaut danjuma seems we had a lot of interest even when he left Bournemouth

Lewandoski nothing in the media, just a decent shout from akira who's got a few right so far.

Cody gakpo again akira shout with some media outlets suggesting it's a shout.

Gnabry media suggested a swap deal with mane, but media have moved on

Dembele, klopp is keen

Traore again all has gone cold but wouldn't be surprised if he returns from barca.

Sarr seems dead in the water

Nunez again nothing really concrete but when seagulls circle :)

Bowen had a long interest from media which has never gone away

Harvey barnes old school rumour

Joa felix once upon a time he liked a tweet and was nailed on for a firmino replacement.

Raheem sterling 2 + 2 equals 26 or something.

Chiesa IF ONLY but the rumours were once there, simular to martinez.

My own little outsider timo Werner looks like Chelsea might sell and could klopp get him going again.

Feel free to add just a few I've remembered and looked at through media rumours.

Can see a mad one out of nowhere tbf one of them curve balls that you just never see coming.

1.) 31 May 2022 00:02:06
Nkunku is out there and could fit the bill. Good season.

Moussa Diaby is pacy tricky customer. The kind klopp likes.

Saka has been mentioned in the past and he has serious potential in my eyes. Would be tough to get out of arsenal but maybe not impossible.

Raphina, possibly Barcelona bound but linked in the past.

I want Nunez myself but let's see how the wind blows.

2.) 31 May 2022 08:01:14
Hope we go nowhere near Raphina, sulky Richarlson type, can't stand him, not as good as Bowen, Nunez is the one all day for me, if only he came in i'd be happy, he would be that good.

3.) 31 May 2022 08:26:40
Sangare another option.

Antony linked but not sure if there is interest.

4.) 31 May 2022 08:49:11
Raphinha is bang average. Well said Lancaster. He's not even the best winger at Leeds.

I want Lewandowski but the reality is he will probably go to Barcelona and we'll sign Dembele on a free so more money can be poured into a major signing in midfield.

The fact we were in the race for Tchouameni at €80-100m should tell everyone that we're prepared to go big on the right player for our midfield.

{Ed001's Note - in what world is Raphinha not the best winger at Leeds? He is definitely not bang average. He had a poor season thanks to the interference of his idiot agent Deco, but he is an excellent player.}

5.) 31 May 2022 08:54:04
I’m excited to see whatever player (s) we get in. Preferably an unknown that klopp can work wonders with. A real gem. Considering how Elliot started last season, seeing him back in form would be absolutely massive. I thought he was outstanding and were he fit all season could only have helped our league chances. Everyone else wants Nunez so therefore I want nunez too. I only saw him play quite well against us in the cl. Didn’t see him elsewhere.

6.) 31 May 2022 10:22:34
I think getting Dembele on a free is the best piece of business we can do that gives no excuse for us to then splash the cash in midfield.

7.) 31 May 2022 10:29:40
Ed001, what do you think of Dembele, if he joins? It’s frustrating seeing these supremely talented guys not having the right attitude, but seemed like he matured a lot the past year?

{Ed001's Note - he has got a worrying past, doing midnight flits and leaving his apartment behind absolutely trashed, plus a terrible injury history. Yes he has played well this season, but is that just simply the Darren Anderton thing of turning up for a season when his contract is running out so he can get a new deal or move? Maybe he has matured, but I would still prefer to look elsewhere, though he is extremely talented.}

8.) 31 May 2022 11:04:27
In other words a massive gamble that could end up causing disruption.
Let chelsea buy him.

This reminds me of that other talented but idotic player we once had, Mario B - where is he again now?

9.) 31 May 2022 11:05:10
Just don't rate him Ed001. He had 84 non-penalty shots last season and managed 7 goals. His 4 in 4 penalty record papered over the fact that he is completely erratic in the final third shooting from silly positions when a better option was on. Last thing we need is a forward who needs 12 shots per goal.

Raphinha is the Brazilian Grealish. Flatters to deceive. Put him in a team where it isn't all about him shooting from anywhere and everywhere and he'll be shown up as the painfully average player he is. Harrison is a better player in my opinion and i wouldn't go near him either as he's too inconsistent.

Only my opinion of course, i just wouldn't touch him.

{Ed001's Note - I don't care about his stats. They tell you nothing about him and he is nothing like Grealish.}

10.) 31 May 2022 11:21:30
KopEnd did you seriously say that “getting Dembele on a free is the best piece of business we can do”?

LMFAO in what way? He’s got congenital injury issues that are only going to get worse. His hammies are done. And once you keep getting hamstring injuries repeatedly, then your tendons are next. That’s not even going into his poor attitude and lack of professionalism.

He’s not changed one bit, he is still the last in to training and the first out and takes random sick days off citing various “ailments”, if he was a horse they’d have taken him to the knackers yard years ago. He’s like a hybrid of Balotelli’s poor attitude with Daniel Sturridge’s body.

11.) 31 May 2022 11:29:02
The stats are merely support to my argument that he tries to do too much himself. I've watched him about 10 times this season and the amount of shots he's smashed into a crowd of players or miles over the bar is ridiculous. Sometimes he needs to just move the ball on and be more patient. He comes across as a bit of a diva who needs to be the hero and the big fish (hence the Grealish comparison; another example is Zaha) . I just don't like that in a player. I'm not saying he's similar to Grealish as a player, but i think like Grealish and Zaha he will flop at a big club. I think he stands out in highlights because everything goes through him, but what Match of the Day don't show are the 10 times he made the wrong decision.

Maybe he just had a bad season like you said in your initial reply. I'd be hesitant if we signed him. If we want to buy Prem proven, Bowen is streets ahead.

12.) 31 May 2022 11:37:00
VVVV, i agree with you fully regarding Dembele. I don't think one half decent season makes up for the last 3 where he's let everyone down repeatedly.

If Klopp insists on signing him, i just hope the better culture we have around the club (guys like Milner, Hendo etc) can knock any bad habits out of him. He's so talented but it means nothing if you're not committed to the cause on and off the pitch.

13.) 31 May 2022 14:54:14
MK I'm with you on Raphina, not all that and the Arsenal game put me right off him, having to be dragged away by his team mates to save him getting sent off, all i could see in his face was Richarlson, Dembele we need to learn from Keita that turds can't be polished.

14.) 31 May 2022 19:30:45
Find some of these comments difficult to read. Raphinha has been absolutely quality when I’ve watched him play and has been, imo, Leeds best player this season.

Wouldn’t be my choice to replace mane but would be a class Salah replacement.

{Ed002's Note - I would forget Raphina, he is close to moving elsewhere.}

Hey Ed.

If you're Arne, in this position right now. do you go and ask for 1 or 2 this window.

Maybe just 1 big one and if so who?

Know it's a hard window, but would need to be a starter I reckon.

MegAlanna

{Ed001's Note - managers always want more players, he would be wanting two I am sure. A central midfielder to cover Gravenberch, as he clearly doesn't trust Endo, like I do, and a versatile defender who can cover left-back and centre-back. Personally I think left-back is the biggest issue. I would want Bastoni as unlikely as that is, if it was an ideal world.}

1.) 03 Jan 2025 05:37:37
Endo hasn’t put a foot wrong every single time he’s been called upon, granted he can’t receive in tight spaces, turn on a dime and carry through the lines like grav can but I’m not sure which other player in world football has that kind of skill set anyway besides maybe zubimendi, I wonder what the guy has to do to get more minutes.

2.) 03 Jan 2025 08:22:58
Patrik, I'm at peace with Slot not giving Endo minutes I think he definitely deserves. It is what it is. However regarding the signings, the two positions Ed01 mentioned are indeed real positions of need.

I just don't think these positions will be filled with the players we need in this window and sorry, I don't want stop-gaps. Not anymore. So we will have to see.

3.) 03 Jan 2025 08:36:00
I agree with you Ed on the left sided defence.

Unfortunately if we are to believe the links to Kerkez and Robinson, this view isn’t shared by Hughes and recruitment team. These seem to be more left backs that don’t play CB.

What about the lad from leverkusen? I think he was a target before, or has that interest gone now?

{Ed001's Note - which one from Leverkusen? We have watched about 8 of their players. Clearly Wirtz is the one we should be getting from them, he is a masterful player.}

4.) 03 Jan 2025 10:02:13
Wirtz is a wonderful player ed I agree. I wonder if we are to lose Trent, we might change things in terms of creativity.
We’re never going to find another RB to create like he does, it’d be much easier to find a replacement in midfield unless Szobo can start unlocking defences over the next 5 months.
Slot has alluded to his numbers after all ?.

5.) 03 Jan 2025 09:30:36
Isn’t Ignacio an option anymore Ed? Seemed we had interest but nothing since then. Also can play CB and LB.

{Ed001's Note - no idea, but he would not be my choice. I am not convinced by him at all now I have watched him a couple of times.}

6.) 03 Jan 2025 10:12:30
The thing is that Wirtz was Havertz's replacement as the next academy superstar at Leverkusen when he left for Chelsea. The ACL injury he had really threatened to slow him down but Im happy to see that he rose above it to become the player he is today and still improving. Whoever gets the likes of him or Musiala will be getting top talents, for sure.

{Ed001's Note - watching Wirtz is like watching a great artist painting his masterpieces at times. It is a thing of beauty.}

7.) 03 Jan 2025 11:44:42
Which one out of 8 players excluding Wirtz is your pick Ed? If I remember the great ED2 once say that plenty of clubs are watching Wirtz including Madrid plus Alonso is their next choice as manager to replace Ancelotti. So that probably put them in driving seat for Wirtz plus if we were interested in Wirtz, I couldn't see Hughes pulling this kind of deal. He couldn't even convince Zubimendi to leave the mountain in Sociedad, how on earth would he convince Wirtz to choose us over Madrid.

{Ed001's Note - I would have said Boniface, but he has far too much to say for himself, plus he said he doesn't like the Premier League so **** him then. Hincapie or Onyeka.}

8.) 03 Jan 2025 19:58:59
Ed, Wirtz is top class, man and he seems to just get better and better.
