Great night for the English sides in Europe. Premier League now has 4 of the 12 semi-finalists across the 3 comps. Next best are Germany, Spain and France with two each. For all the stick the league was getting earlier on in the season, with the results in Europe it's still the strongest league overall by a distance. Could have a finalist in every competition.

17 Apr 2026 01:06:35
Definitely the deepest. The financial power of the mid-lower table teams in the Premier League dwarfs other European clubs.

16 Apr 2026 20:24:01
Genuine question, are there any readers/posters out there who want to see Slot still in charge next season and why?

16 Apr 2026 20:33:06
I've just watched tumbleweed pass by.

Agree14

16 Apr 2026 20:47:35
Maybe all both of the people who got a shirt with Slot on the back won't need to update it?

Beyond that, I'm struggling.

Agree3

16 Apr 2026 21:11:48
Mrs. Slot, Mad Billy Piechucker, Slot's cutthroat barber charging £200 for the dome.

Agree1

16 Apr 2026 22:13:13
I think Gody Cakpo is one of them.

Agree8

17 Apr 2026 00:45:37
No8. We had a poll on here a few weeks back n it was over 70% (I think) didn't want him here, think that % might be even more now.

Agree0

17 Apr 2026 06:34:53
It doesn't seem to matter what the fans (certainly the ones on this forum) want.

Agree0

17 Apr 2026 07:17:46
Fans from all the other clubs want Slot to stay... Does that count?

Agree0

17 Apr 2026 13:24:24
Jlc, it depends on how desperate the "Slot-inners" are, imo.

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 19:22:09
I don't want to keep bashing Slot but the players have apparently had another day off today. It's three days before a derby and Szoboszlai is walking around London shopping and Slot has been photographed enjoying a fancy meal in London as well.

Ed001, surely this isn't normal, the lack of time the team seems to spend in training is very worrying! Surely, with the way things are going, they should be spending every available minute at AXA figuring out how to turn it around!

{Ed001's Note - no it is not normal, they should be doing work on recovery. You don't recover walking round shopping in London. It really is a joke the lack of professionalism right now at the club. Fallen so far from the standards Klopp expected.}

16 Apr 2026 20:04:02
The season was just completely written off months ago, and nobody gives a flying fudge bar the fans. It's a real shame.

There's zero connection between Club and Fan. It can't be like this next season.

Agree13

16 Apr 2026 20:15:26
Ed001 what I don't understand is the club see what standards where needed to challenge under Klopp and as good as we where most seasons it was still not good enough for the big prizes. Now look at us we are way off and falling behind more and more if they think last summer throwing money at it would work obviously not but if Klopp had been backed like that am sure we would have had a few more titles because hard work with quality brings success.

But we are starting to look like United after Fergy left and with the dressing room we had that should never have happened. I can see a bad result Sunday and lucky for us with the league being so bad hopefully if it does go bad Sunday against Everton that might be the tipping point to remove them 3 clowns.

Agree6

{Ed001's Note - I don't understand either.}

16 Apr 2026 21:11:57
If Slot stays next season, I'll try (and probably fail) to stop watching us. Or, at a minimum, just watch the games & then detach myself mentally. It's disheartening seeing how badly everything has deteriorated & I don't think I could take another season of Slotball.

With Klopp, you genuinely believed anything was possible, with Slot, anything is still possible, but in the completely opposite (negative) way.

I don't even get angry when we lose badly anymore, like v City & PSG, cause I completely expected it. The only area of uncertainty was which not so smart decisions Slot would make this time around that would lead us to those outcomes.

Agree2

16 Apr 2026 21:29:39
Not ignoring the fact Slot should be doing it - but would there actually be anything preventing the players doing additional training when given days off?

Just seems, in their situation, or to get to that level, would have an internal drive to be aware fitness levels aren't adequate and do something about it.

Agree3

16 Apr 2026 21:37:50
I can't stop watching, my head will just not let me.
The problem is, when it's this bad I can't watch anymore football after we played, it destroys my weekend.
Even after losses under Klopp, I would rewatch on Match of the Day just to see the highlights and see where we went wrong, but under Slot there is no right.

I said to my wife, beginning of last season when we were winning, I still found most of the games underwhelming because even then we seemed very passive.

Agree1

16 Apr 2026 21:41:58
The club is rotten to the core now and that blame can be laid firmly at the feet of Statto and Captain Flasheart (Edwards and Hughes).

They are in charge of running the club (on behalf of FSG) and they are running it into the ground in an unprecedented manner. And I remember the Chuckle Brothers (Moores and Parry).

Agree5

16 Apr 2026 21:51:37
Absolutely ridiculous carry on from Slot and the management team, it's Derby week, we've just gone out of the Champions League with a whimper and they're not on the training ground recovering and working towards the weekend.

Agree5

16 Apr 2026 22:11:22
I can't envisage watching this football for another 14 months.

A lot doesn't stack up - why hasn't his contract been renewed? Why hasn't he been backed in the transfer market? Why are FSG letting fan support and prize money implode?

Agree3

16 Apr 2026 21:18:50
Ed, do you reckon all three—Edwards, Hughes, and Slot—will remain for another season? Surely someone needs to take responsibility after the kind of season we're having. They can't keep using the usual excuse of it being a "transition season" when we've spent half a billion on new players on top of being the defending champions.

Agree1

{Ed001's Note - no, I expect Hughes to take the offer from Al Hilal and Slot to go home.}

16 Apr 2026 22:27:51
A truly magical response Ed001, thank you

Agree3

{Ed001's Note - I am still hoping Edwards will walk away as well!}

16 Apr 2026 23:27:02
Fingers crossed Ed001. We need this lot gone

Agree4

16 Apr 2026 17:35:44
You could argue many positions need strengthened, but you also have to be realistic and especially after so much being previously spent and somewhat squandered.
3 absolute musts in the summer.
A top CB (he may have already signed), a top CM and a top attacking wing player.

Then address the Virgil and Allison's positions the following summer.
We need 2 midfielders imo. Macca and Jones should really be moved on now and improved upon. Grav could 2 himself as a decent 6 again.

16 Apr 2026 18:04:16
Slot said in his post match interview, the club will need to sell to buy to recruit in the summer.

Agree1

16 Apr 2026 18:12:01
The team is short 4/5 players now!

Come the summer.
Salah gone.
Robbo gone.
Chiesa gone.
That's another 3 =7/8 needed.

Then we are all hearing who might also move.
Endo likely.
Konate likely.
Becker likely.
Jones likely.
Gomez likely (I'd be rid of).
That's another 4 = 11/12.

We've Leoni and the other cb so back to 11?

We seriously lack depth.

Agree4

16 Apr 2026 18:41:45
Chiesa definitely doesn't need replacing, that can surely be done from within.

Agree1

16 Apr 2026 18:43:37
Endo can be replaced by Nyoni.

Agree1

16 Apr 2026 18:58:39
I think Endo and McAllister will go from MF. Nyoni can take Endo's minutes and maybe Smit replacing Macca?

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 18:58:47
We need a manager who improves players.
Our players have declined in the last 15 months.

With a manager who gets the most out of players, we won't need quite so many replacements in my opinion.

Agree6

16 Apr 2026 19:03:53
And been reported Gakpo is staying, so there'll be no signing for LW unless it's someone who operates on both flanks.

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 19:27:56
I agree, for the first XI we need a CB, a right winger and a CM. Nonetheless, given the probable outgoings we would need to buy at least 4 more players (a RB, another CM, another CB and another forward) for the squad. If we don't do that, we would end up like this year without squad depth which I feel we don't have.

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 19:33:38
Answer this if you can m8. Real Madrid, steeped in history as they are, tell me why do they think they are always correct with the world against them. Look at last nite. V BM, the only one to blam
e is Camavinga and not the referee.

He was the one on a booking who picked up the ball intentionally, trying to delay the restart of the game. What choice did the referee have left?

Agree2

16 Apr 2026 20:29:32
I doubt Allison is leaving. Konate is signing a new deal.

We have
Allison.
Mamadashvilli.
Bradley.
Frimpong.
Van Dijk.
Konate.
Jacquet.
Leoni.
Tsimikas.
Kerkez.
Gravenberch.
Szoboszlai.
McAllister (but could leave).
Chiesa.
Gakpo.
Isak.
Ekitike (when back).

Ngouma.

I see Jones, Endo, Elliot, maybe McAllister, and definitely loosing Robertson and Salah. In terms of youngsters who may step up we have Chambers, Wright, Beck, Danns, Bacjetic, Nyoni and Stephenson.
Midfield and Widemen is what we need this window.

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 20:31:30
Forgot Wirtz too.

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 21:14:34
The only way Jones leaves is if Slot stays.

Agree0

{Ed025's Note - silver linings and all that Racey.. :)

16 Apr 2026 22:26:48
Jones should be binned off whoever the manager is.

Agree2

16 Apr 2026 15:58:26
Rip Manninger.

16 Apr 2026 17:02:38
Indeed, RIP, never played a game when at LFC but still part of LFC family.

Agree8

16 Apr 2026 17:03:41
Really? Oh, no. RIP, indeed.

Agree2

16 Apr 2026 15:37:38
Not sure what to think of Senesi. I see the idea that if Konate leaves you have Jacquet/Leoni as the RCB then Senesi as cover on the left for VVD. He's a good player but not playing ahead of VVD despite his drop off and he's not young that you see him as the long term replacement. He'd just end up playing Carabao Cup games. Is that worth losing a non HG place for? I like the idea of Konate/VVD with Jacquet/Leoni pushing them. If Konate leaves I think we can do better. Gordon won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I think he'd be a good signing. Salah is gone, Gakpo I'd cash in on and Chiesa you'd expect to be off too. Ekitike is near enough a write off for next season, so our forward options look like Isak and Ngumoha.

The front line needs investment. We need depth, versatility, and home grown players. I'd get Gordon since he looks like he's available and would love to join. Ticks the HG box, can play on the left, the right or up top. Only 25 and would help get the best out of Isak. I'd look at Kroupi from Bournemouth too given Ekitike's injury. Can play up top, out wide or behind the striker. And Diomande as the Salah replacement, again can play either side. I'd grab Wilson on a free too since he's club trained to tick more boxes just as a little bit extra cover.

Gordon, Isak, Diomande, Ngumoha, Kroupi, Wilson

16 Apr 2026 16:07:43
Yeh, looks like we're gonna need our attacking signings to be versatile. If Danns could get and stay fit for the season, that would be a bonus.

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 17:04:40
I'm sorry, Senesi is terrible. Hard pass.

Agree3

16 Apr 2026 17:56:45
Wilson is not better than Elliott.

Gordon will be overpriced. I think we need to be versatile and fast forwards who can play all across the front 3.

A dm and a defender who can play either rb or lb.

Agree2

16 Apr 2026 19:27:33
Home grown will be important, Gordon and Wilson would be good signings.

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 19:49:34
I'm not sure HG is all that much of an issue.

Currently we have Woodman who is HG out of the GKs - Pecsi is U21 and Jaros will be HG if he returns. So let's say at least 1 if not 2.

Defence - Bradley and Frimpong are both HG, as is Joe Gomez - so that's 2 or 3.

In Midfield we currently have Curtis Jones and we will have Harvey if he isn't sold on. Plus I suspect that 1 x midfielder we bring in will be HG - either Wharton, Elliot, Scott or Gray. So let's say at least 2 midfielders.

Forwards - no actual HGs but Rio will qualify as U21 next season so won't take up a non-HG berth.

So we have fewer than 8 HG players, however we have a number of U21 players who will be involved next season - Rio, Trey, Giovanni, Jacquet, Pecsi - all of whom have either had or will have a part in matchday squads. The criteria for U21 in the 26-27 season will be born after 1 Jan 2005, hence Jacquet qualifies for 1 more season, Diomande will qualify for 2 more seasons.

The more I think about it, the more Anthony Gordon makes sense on the left - EPL experienced, a home lad who will qualify as HG, and with enough of an age gap to Rio that they can comfortably co-exist in a squad.

Also, although the papers are saying £80m, he may be a little cheaper as Newcastle will need to sell to meet PSG rules in light of no CL in 2026-27.

There are also players on the fringes of the squad who *may* (and it's a big *may*) be squad players in the future - I'm looking at you Mr "my alarm clock is broken" Bajcetic. Who knows, maybe a likely hero of his growing up (Xabi) could finally get a tune out of that fiddle. He is also HG.

Players who are/may be leaving this summer are mainly non-HG - Robbo, Salah, possibly Konate, Mac Allister etc.

I do think we will end up keeping Curtis due to his versatility (and his HG status with it).

Agree2

16 Apr 2026 20:01:27
Wilson???? Surely a different Wilson to Harry Wilson from Fulham??? Surely!??!

Agree1

16 Apr 2026 20:50:09
I immediately thought of Callum Wilson, SG, who may make a bit of sense given Ekitike's injury if we sell Gakpo!

Harry Wilson - yes, he's got an awesome free kick on him, but so has Dom.

He's not as quick as even Harvey, forget about Salah or Frimpong, so I can't see him playing RW - I'd rather use Harvey as a fluid forward for when our first choice is not available (possibly Diomande).

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 22:28:28
Gordon and Wilson? We are back in the banter era.

Agree0

Has Carra's account been hacked?
All gone very quiet from the ITK's
Waiting game, I guess....Who's gonna blink first.

16 Apr 2026 15:26:15
Maybe there is just nothing new to report.

Agree7

16 Apr 2026 15:32:28
Carra has made it clear multiple times that his information is final, and that Slot will go mutually.
Let's see what happens. I believe in Carra and hope he is right.

Agree7

16 Apr 2026 15:52:18
We all hope Carra's right, but everything we're seeing suggests he's not. Hughes and Edwards to stay as well.

Agree6

16 Apr 2026 17:09:37
If Slot is gone in the summer, then why is Carra gonna say anything else? Stay patient and see what happens.

Slot is a spoofer and likes to do a lot of posturing in public to make it look like he is being backed, whereas he was given no dough to buy a CB in Jan when we needed it.

Nor has a contract extension been put on the table. Strange, right?

Again, watch what is (not) being done rather than what is being said.

Agree4

16 Apr 2026 20:51:14
Whilst I love the gossip and rumour of the last 15+ years (I've been on here for around 13 of them!) I do sometimes yearn for the blissful ignorance of 20+ years ago when every transfer was a surprise!

The funny thing that has made me chuckle for a while now … is how timid of tame Anfield is cos slot is a calm kinda person who doesn’t get the team all intense thus making it more difficult for the opponent.

Anfield is just u know just another ground and when u think about it PSG won a simple 2-0 away victory and the sad thing is that will be overlooked cos apparently a lot “deserves another season“ or whatever the narrative is.

He turned LFC into an ordinary run of the mill team and that’s the most troublesome result.

16 Apr 2026 15:27:31
I will admit, watching us now, I can't say you are wrong. We are bang average at the minute with no heart and that is more difficult to accept than having terrible results imo. It's like the life and intensity has been sucked out at a very alarming rate.

How have we got to this state so quickly? I could understand if we were run badly over the next few years, this would happen, but damn that was fast. And, the excuses are doing my head in.

Agree4

16 Apr 2026 16:45:26
I think calling them "bang average" is being quite generous.

Agree1

16 Apr 2026 17:14:42
Slot is not a "ra, ra" guy like Klopp is, but that does not mean he cannot get the crowd onside in his own way. Other managers, not named Klopp, found ways of doing it, so for me that may just not be his thing.

That's okay, but again, it doesn't mean he should just sit there and let the crowd do the self ginning up either.

Doesn't help that, under him, the team has been awful this season either. The fans have very little to cheer about, as a result.

Agree0

16 Apr 2026 18:21:28
OliRed, how exactly do you reckon he might do that? He's got as much personality as Florian's pet rock, all the character of a cardboard cutout, and he couldn't get a tune out of a marching band.

Agree1

16 Apr 2026 15:47:14
Ed25 you must be looking forward to this game coming up ;) your guys seem to be going in the opposite direction we are

Agree0

{Ed025's Note - we are doing a lot better than previous years MrJ, still a long way to go mate but i cant complain, i dont look forward to derbies these days but this one is massive i feel but i think a draw is a knocking bet..
