Has anyone watched Szobo when he plays for Hungary? It seems that more often than not he plays off the left in a 4231 with Kerkez behind him. Haven't personally watched them, so would love some insight.
I'm not suggesting this is a long term option, but would it be the end of the world if we fixed our midfield and made do with Szobo on the wing for a season until Rio gets more minutes or a better option becomes available (Like Yildiz if Juve miss Champions League football again).

That's the same position Wirtz plays for Germany. A left sided 10 with freedom.

13 Jun 2026 08:57:27
I watched him against Ireland recently and he had a free role. Played Number 10 but popped up everywhere. He was class that night. He still was only the second best player on the pitch though, after Troy Parrot.

13 Jun 2026 09:06:32
Exactly, Hellohello. Szobo has the freedom of the whole of Budapest when he plays for Hungary. He does not have a specific position in midfield, in attack and in defence. I wouldn't pay too much attention to where on the pitch he occupies for his country. He is literally everywhere.

13 Jun 2026 09:43:25
Before Szob signed for us he played on the right. Personally, if you're going to play one of Flo or Szob on left I would prefer Flo left and Szob 10.
13 Jun 2026 03:08:21
Not a rumour as such but watching the USA game and I think Christian Pulisic always comes across very sharp and tidy. Iβm nearly sure his contract could be coming to an end and would be a great player to add squad depth, and on his day heβs a very good player. Plenty of experience and still only 27.

Always injured. No thanks.
10
13 Jun 2026 07:36:16
Injury prone, flatters to deceive, wrong end of his career.
10
13 Jun 2026 08:59:51
Christian pulled a sickie.
4
13 Jun 2026 09:07:29
He plays his best for his country cos he has the freedom to do so as he is their best player by a mile. He is also severely injury-prone. Hard pass.
2
13 Jun 2026 10:07:24
He's not that good and he's 27. He would struggle in the Premier League now imo.
3
13 Jun 2026 10:16:09
Hard pass.
3
13 Jun 2026 10:30:43
No thanks. Not good enough, frequently injured and unable to stick with any particular team for too long.
12 Jun 2026 23:04:16
I hope this does not come across as being totally insensitive. Iβm just curious if clubs insure players against career ending injury or death? After all they are a multi million pound asset.
3
13 Jun 2026 02:00:01
Yes, players are insured by clubs.
12 Jun 2026 21:25:35
I personally would bypass the crazy high transfer fee in Diomande.
Let PSG buy him.
And then go for Kang in Lee.
Can play multiple positions far far cheaper and I think would be a monster on either flank.
3
12 Jun 2026 21:46:15
I think we shouldn't worry about the money and trust the club to spend what they can afford.
If they feel Diomande is a better option than Kang in Lee (which he clearly is), and they feel the club can afford him, then they should go and get him.
FSG have been accused of penny pinching since they arrived, and now they are loosening the purse strings, they're getting criticised for spending too much.
From my point of view, giving up on Diomande and signing Kang in Lee instead would be very underwhelming and would show a lack of real ambition.
16
12 Jun 2026 21:46:32
We're trying to replace Salah here, not Chiesa.
13
12 Jun 2026 22:07:02
Diomande will be generational imo. Yes, he's expensive, but don't forget the fee is amortised over a max 5 years.
5
12 Jun 2026 22:54:57
Post loop, is it on a 3 day rotation that you post the same post? And then wait for people to point out that you are mistaken.
And then 3 days later, reset and start again?
Asking for a friend.
6
12 Jun 2026 22:59:38
Money is not something fans should unduly worry about. Getting the right players and the coach to get a tune out of them is what matters. We have to trust that FSG can do the math.
6
12 Jun 2026 23:57:11
Postklopp,
Yes, let PSG take the star player and go for a player who can't get in their team. That would bridge the gap between us and them - not! Why are you so worried about the money? Are they raiding your bank account? I'm sure the hierarchy at the club know what we can afford and what is needed.
3
12 Jun 2026 23:59:34
12 goals in 80 games in Ligue 1, but heβd be a monster in the Premier League? Hilarious.
5
13 Jun 2026 03:41:41
To be fair here, Kang In Lee would be a good addition, but not for the RW. He is a decent player.
Diomande is our preferred, and we should go all out to get the best in class.
1
13 Jun 2026 07:41:23
Why do people worry about money that's not theirs. We are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and we have very good accountants that will tell us that it's ok to spend an amount of money.
If we sign Diomande for 100mill and it works out great, then fantastic. If we sign him and he's a flop, then so be it. Life goes on, why stress about it.
1
13 Jun 2026 09:09:16
Postklopp, if not wanting to pay the Diomande fee is your issue, then what makes you think PSG will not fleece us for Kang Lee, exactly?
12 Jun 2026 18:48:47
Anyone seen any Spanish/Basque players that might be looked at now we have Iraola in charge such as Mikel Jauregizar of Bilbao and Iker Munoz from Osasuna?

12 Jun 2026 19:11:58
Stefan Bajcetic and Wellity Lucky? π€£
5
12 Jun 2026 19:25:39
There's a joke to be made with Lucky's name, I'm not the person who is good at these jokes though.

12 Jun 2026 21:07:17
We'll be paying a premium for them, as Athletic Bilbao have a strict internal rule about Basque players being the main bulk of the squad. So they never let them go cheaply.
1
12 Jun 2026 21:57:32
Isn't Munoz off to Newcastle?
1
12 Jun 2026 22:57:10
Different Munoz, thats Victor Munoz, whos a winger.

Athletic Bilbao are not a selling club - if any other club meets a player's release clause, that's not selling, which happened with Kepa to Chelsea, Herrera to United, Laporte to City or Javi Martinez to Bayern.
For his latest contract extension, running until 2031, both Mikel Jauregizar and the club agreed on not inserting a release clause, as he does not wish to leave the club.
0
13 Jun 2026 00:09:23
Not sure that's true, Magnus, mate. Pretty sure all contracts in Spain must contain a release clause. Nothing to stop them setting it ridiculously high though.
0
13 Jun 2026 00:56:39
What Rugby Parker said. I'm pretty sure that release clauses are compulsory in Spain. But they don't have to be reasonable though. That's why we see release clauses of 1b for players like Pedri and Lamine.
12 Jun 2026 18:48:23
Alisson: "I'm 100%. Missing games for Liverpool was part of the plan to make sure I was ready for the World Cup."
I honestly don't know how to feel about that. Love Alisson, best keeper I have ever seen, but that quote just doesn't sit right with me. Hopefully a quote lost in translation, rather than a player skipping Liverpool matches for that of his national team.
11
12 Jun 2026 19:02:59
Hi Mango... Is that a snippet of a larger quote? As you say, hopefully lost in translation along the media pathway?. β
1
12 Jun 2026 19:21:46
I for one would never doubt Ali's commitment to us.
7
12 Jun 2026 19:40:34
I suspect it was just a case that he wasn't risked if he wasn't 100% fit.
7
12 Jun 2026 21:53:27
Mistranslation, probably done intentionally just for a bit of headline; the original quote was "'...part of the process..." not 'part of the plan'.
2
12 Jun 2026 22:10:06
He has missed 40 games over two seasons with injury. Who's to say if he stays for another year, he's not going to miss all of those.
2
13 Jun 2026 10:54:44
Mango, there's clearly some loss in translation or not reported with the right context. Like Keegans has said, he's missed 40 games in 2 years. It can't be that he's been preparing for the World Cup for 2 years? I have no doubts about the man's commitment. It would show in his performances, otherwise.
0
13 Jun 2026 11:00:15
Mango, can you provide us with the complete discussion where that quote was retrieved from? because one cannot just make quote the part we want to pick to make a point without knowing what was said before and after it. You know, context and all that.
12 Jun 2026 18:26:13
west Derby Wanderer I've I'd have Manu Kone as a dm playing double pivot 6 ft 1 boyhood Liverpool fan Roma need funds 50Euro transfermarket fast has high running stats in both German and Italian league was looked at under Kloppo but had a unfortunate injury a u21 euros I think has very good fwd pass stats and accuracy % most fouled player had Bellingham in his pocket when they met in German league not afraid to get stuck in mid 20s with our new coach could have a high ceiling and has played with Hugo in French national team currently at World Cup ahead of Carravinga

12 Jun 2026 23:34:14
50 euro Transfermarkt, damn Roma are really skint! Let's give them 48 euros over 3 seasons. π₯π₯

That entire paragraph was one sentence. I have no idea what was said or meant to be said. π€
12 Jun 2026 16:05:28
I've got them on my ones to watch at the World Cup, but alternatives for midfield are Johan Manzambi of Freiburg, Paul Wanner from PSV. Both young talented players. Also Richard Rios from Benfica. All great options for me. Let me know what you guys think.
1
12 Jun 2026 17:50:56
I'd like a seasoned DM, mid-20s who has 'presence', can break up opposition attacks and is comfortable on the ball and can pick a pass. Ideally someone who is used to playing a pressing game and is not injury prone.
I like the idea of a couple of youngsters but, having watched our back 4 be exposed first the last couple of seasons, I want someone who has played at the highest levels and can add solidity to the team straight away.
Not sure who it might be, I only really watch Liverpool but hopefully the club is looking for someone along the lines above.
1
12 Jun 2026 18:05:17
Moonona Stich would be a good DM match for your criteria, WDW.
1
12 Jun 2026 18:08:44
The title winning version of Gravenburch pretty much ticks all those boxes, Wdw, the way he covered beyond the defence and broke the lines with a drop of the shoulder was superb.
5
12 Jun 2026 18:09:07
Rios is 26 and fits your bill, Wdw.
0
12 Jun 2026 21:49:43
I agree, No 8. Wdw has just described Gravenberch to a tee.
It's just baffling that Slot didn't keep him in that position last season. He was a revelation in the title winning campaign.
1
12 Jun 2026 21:55:25
Gravenberch is dreadful. Whoever decided to give him a lucrative contract halfway through the season needs sacking, playing like he did when Klopp was there n he would've been out the door if Klopp had stayed.
1
12 Jun 2026 22:11:39
The balance isn't right in our midfield, individually, though, Grav and Szob are good players. We just need someone to complement their games. I don't think Macca is that player, and Grav needs to find more consistency. Someone like Fabinho would help bring it together.
0
13 Jun 2026 09:14:56
Overkill, which Fabinho version are you referring to? The one now, whose legs are gone and much older?
Or the one who was world class, 6/7 years ago?
0
13 Jun 2026 10:41:53
Well, if Iraola chooses to continue with his favored 4-2-3-1, Gravenberch will have to go back to playing more defensively next to an equally defensive midfielder. When you think of it, you wonder how Slot allowed Gravenberch to play more offensively last season, when the other midfielders (Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Wirtz) are better at it.
