I am confused with this Gakpo contract talk. Didn't he sign an extension last summer doubling his money and keeping him here from 2028-2030. Transfermarkt have him until 2030 and Capology say he signed it August 30th 2025.

1

20 Apr 2026 17:05:33
He signed a new deal in the summer. I don't trust the reported wages. However, if they are even close to true, it looks like questionable business.

Same goes for Gravenberch's recently reported deal.

I've just seen the video that's doing the rounds, I wonder if it's for something else? As you rightly say, Gakpo only extended recently, unless I'm missing something.

20 Apr 2026 17:16:39
There's a Tommy Hilfiger promotional video going around which Will Arnett (the US actor), Ibou and Cody are featuring in, along with a bunch of extras/fans.

Maybe that is causing the confusion?

20 Apr 2026 17:24:15
Gravenberch went from 150kpw to 280kpw and a 6 year deal. Gakpo went from 120kpw up to 250kpw but another website had it at 200kpw. Questionable on wages front, but secures the assets for a long time.

0

20 Apr 2026 17:24:26
Gakpo 100% signed a new contract last year, not sure where you're seeing reports he's negotiating.

FlyPelican, unfortunately, I do believe the numbers claimed. We seem to be throwing money at players these days. Hughes seems to be under the impression he's already in Saudi.

When you look at Gakpo's stats for last season, it's actually not hard to imagine them justifying it. It was a title winning season too, that gives everyone more leverage except the club. Pretty much all business done under Hughes/Edwards has been questionable business, unfortunately.

I think that's the one, mate, it's been shared as a contract signing video.

Just my 2 penance on Konate close to a new deal if reports are true.
Think the club is seriously making a mistake here, on his day Konate can be world class, he has unbelievable power and his aggressive play style in the right circumstances is quality. I jus dont understand the new huge contract reports are saying he will be receiving (circa of 300kpw ive heard). I understand they maybe think we dont want to loose him on a free but this is a huge outlay. If he has another stinker of a season he will probably need replacing anyway and I cant imagine many, if any teams paying a good transfer fee for him if the form continues in the same vein.

My biggest issue with it tho is the message it sends to other squad players. He has had an unbelievably bad season, as have many others i agree but to give him a huge pay rise based of this is nuts in my mind. Cut your losses on him. Wish him the best and go find someone else who can consistently perform to the calibre we need. Sorry for long rant, just hope im wrong about this and Ibou can find some form next season and I look come back with my tail between my legs.

20 Apr 2026 16:19:50
We do seem to be rewarding players who have been awful this season, Gravenberch n now Konate, not a good policy is it.

6

20 Apr 2026 16:39:55
300k for 12 months is £15m roughly.

Rather they spend that now and look for better next year, then forking out 50m+ on a new defender, on top of all the other players we need to buy.

I'm not his biggest fan, and if this was the only position we had to fill in the summer then I would be looking at letting him go and buying a new CB.

3

20 Apr 2026 16:41:53
Hey lads, we can all have a bad time of it. Sometimes, things go wrong. We've had a big turned around in players, no time to settle, it takes time to build a team. We're all in this together. YNWA.

3

20 Apr 2026 16:59:17
Fowler has got it spot on, we have so much work to do this summer that we can't afford to be spending £40-£50 million on a Konate replacement.

1

20 Apr 2026 17:01:56
Gravenberch has been poor, but I recall after a goal and assist in the derby earlier in the season, we were talking about him being one of the best young midfielders in Europe (rightfully so). He's not even 24 yet!
Last season too, from Feb onwards, he was looking gassed out and everyone thought the team was suffering because of one player.

The whole team was on a rot because of one player. That's how important he was.
Fans seem to forget things very fast.
If a manager comes in that can actually manage, and find a system that functions, Grav will thrive again.

0

20 Apr 2026 17:04:26
Amie, it's all about priorities at this point cos for me, I would focus on the midfield cos that is The key area.

0

20 Apr 2026 17:11:07
If Ibou has another shocker next season, at least we know Jacquet or Leoni could take his place fairly quickly.

While he, along with a fair few of his team mates, has had a poor season, I would be curious to see how he does with a settled rb next to him and a defensive midfielder that he would trust in front of him.

I sometimes think he goes wandering because he doesn't trust his team mates beside and in front of him to win the duels.

Also worth pointing out that other than the Endrick assault, he's stayed injury free for almost two full seasons now.

0

20 Apr 2026 17:15:27
We need to keep our players in contract for resale value. They are assets. I don't think any player is going to be smelling of roses at the end of the season.

0

20 Apr 2026 17:18:54
In regards to Konate, I believe the club feels that even if he does have a stinker, securing him for 300k per week is an easier task and cheaper option than pursuing a top CB to replace him this summer. I imagine the risk to reward on outlay is worth it in their eyes because they feel Jacquet or Leoni will be able to step in if he does fail to produce adequate performances.

Like I've said before, as poor as we've been at the back, we've been even worse in midfield, and going forward, so I believe a midfielder and a winger are the club's main priorities at the moment.

Dunc over at Koptalk is citing an email from one of his ITK's in suggesting that talks with Alonso have screeched to a halt due to Edwards' over-involvement in transfers. Whatever you think of the source, this makes sense to me. I did suggest a few months back that Edwards may need to leave in order for us to bring in Alonso. I think others on here have shared that opinion. It also aligns with the big shift we've seen recently from Alonso being nailed on to Slot being backed for next season.

I did say that if the club is truly backing Slot for '26 that I felt it meant Alonso had turned us down. Not claiming to be ITK by any means, but I felt the info was relative for those who may not have heard. Even if it's true, there's still time to put things right. Hopefully the club sees that Alonso brings more to the table than Edwards.

4

20 Apr 2026 14:52:27
I thought Alonso was Hogans No1 choice, so I'd say he could over rule Edwards on that. But who knows. We just need Slot gone. I couldn't take another season of it.

5

20 Apr 2026 14:58:58
Whilst I don't accept Dunk has any ITKs, I agree it's always been an unwise assumption that Alonso is desperate to join LFC.

I've always been of the view that LFC loves Alonso more than Alonso loves LFC.

10

20 Apr 2026 15:06:31
I would say any potential incoming coach will be asking questions about Edwards and Hughes' futures, given the uncertainty we have been hearing. Whether it is Alonso or any other coach, they will want confidence and clarity in the project.

And, if you are Alonso, you would want some confidence that you had reasonable influence over the profile of signings made - especially since the squad needs some serious rebalancing. You don't want the "I asked for a sofa and they bought me a lamp" situation happening.

I may be deluded, but I am sticking by the fact that Slot has not been offered a new deal, was not backed in the January window, and was blocked from bringing the popular and available Heitinga back.

I reckon the "we back Slot" propaganda will continue until we have mathematically secured CL qualification. Once secured, we might get an announcement that Slot will not be continuing with the club next season for family reasons.

I might also be totally wrong. :)

6

20 Apr 2026 15:20:58
Isn't it Hughes that's involved with transfers, no longer Edwards? All three need to go. Hughes, Edwards and Slot.

4

20 Apr 2026 15:30:53
Deffo. Alonso had his chance, Madrid calling or not. Is he even proven? Debatable.

0

20 Apr 2026 15:59:11
What's the set up nowadays? Does Slot/coach get any say in transfers, or are we more like Chelsea now, where coach gets what he's given?

0

20 Apr 2026 16:06:24
I always believed that transfers were put forward, and the majority of the transfer team won, whether it was for or against. I believe that was how it ran during Klopp's first contract.

0

20 Apr 2026 16:06:44
I wonder how many times the will he, won't he conversation will arrive this week.

0

20 Apr 2026 16:07:57
Mmmmm, if this remotely has legs, then FSG have a decision to make, don't they.

Manager or coach...

Whatever happens, just hope it doesn't involve Slot.

All 3 need to go, but will be happy with just Slot to start off with, and the other 2 at end of contracts.

3

20 Apr 2026 16:13:24
My bad, Kloppiche, I meant to mention both Hughes and Edwards. Whilst Hughes is very much in charge of the day to day handling of contract negotiations and transfers, etc., Edwards is his old pal, boss and the reason he has his job, so I imagine Hughes operates very much as an Edwards puppet.

1

20 Apr 2026 17:02:03
Have the transfers been that bad?

0

20 Apr 2026 17:06:09
Probably right, @Chewy.

1

20 Apr 2026 17:11:36
WestYorkshirered, obviously we get mixed info from multiple sources, but it's easy enough to read between the lines; Slot was adamant he's heavily involved in transfers in a recent presser, but earlier in the season he also hinted that he didn't get the players he wanted and that the squad lacks depth. Given Slot's transfer history at Feyenoord, I very much doubt it was his decision to go out and buy a bunch of big names. It's been widely reported that Edwards has previously pulled rank and had fallen out with Klopp over potential targets, which may have even contributed to Edwards' decision to leave the club back in '22.

Upon his return to the club, it was rumoured that one of his conditions for taking on the role was that he had final say on transfers, and given his new position, I believe this is accurate. The fact that Arne was signed as a Head Coach instead of a Manager also supports that idea.

Hi diddly Ho,

Sounds like Konate is close to a long-term deal - reported by James Pearce.

This is a quote from Konate.

"We are close to an agreement. I have a special relationship not only with the fans, but with every single person who works at the club. This club means so much to me."

Diddly out.

8

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - there are videos circulating alleged to be of him filming his signing vid along with Gakpo.}

13

20 Apr 2026 12:53:34
Ibou also said the biggest influence on his playing style and concentration was Karius's CL Final performance. Explains everything.

5

20 Apr 2026 12:55:45
Good news, he seems to be finding a bit of form again, and we really don't need to be trying to fill more holes in the squad come the summer. Got to hope Bradley can stay fit next year, so he can build a consistent relationship on that right side of defence.

4

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - who is? Konate? He was dog muck yesterday. Again.}

20

20 Apr 2026 13:10:16
Bradley is like Joe Gomez, both made of crisps.

7

20 Apr 2026 13:19:09
Ludicrous decision by the club.

5

20 Apr 2026 13:20:33
I am ok for him to renew on the basis that I don't have any faith that we'll do all the business we need to do this summer, and I would rather not be going into another season short in key positions.

If the rest of the business was done or close to done, then I would be inclined to let him go and replace him with a new CB in the summer.

6

20 Apr 2026 13:43:48
I'm happy either way. On his day, he is great (I know there haven't been many of those days recently), and, as FPF says, there are other areas of the team that we need to concentrate on more. With Jacquet and Leoni, hopefully being back and fit next season, there will be options and pressure on the starting CBs, unlike this season.

If he is this poor again next season, he will drop to the bench.

Virg also needs to sort himself out next season, because half of Konate's problems stem from the lackadaisical ethos instilled by Virg most of the time.

8

20 Apr 2026 13:44:52
My stance exactly, Fly.

0

20 Apr 2026 13:48:33
Philadelphia Collins, did you watch the game yesterday? For Everton's goal, he was dawdling and made no effort to stop the cross. We were nearly a goal down in the first few minutes, as he let Beto run across him for the header that was saved by Mamadashvili. For his size, he has no balance, and loses far too many headers.

3

20 Apr 2026 13:50:42
If he's going to be fourth choice with VVD, Leoni and Jacquet ahead of him, I can live with it. Maybe competition for the spot will do him good, but that may be wishful thinking.

3

20 Apr 2026 13:59:27
Not happy.

1

20 Apr 2026 14:12:08
We need that many new players, we'll see current players that are not good enough get new deals just to ease the pressure. Konate, Jones and Gakpo will fall into this category.

2

20 Apr 2026 14:22:05
Depends on the salary. If he's crippling us with his salary then I would have been happy to let him go. He's always got a constant howler in him.

1

20 Apr 2026 14:39:15
I think Konate gets far too much stick on here.

Anyone who has ever played the games knows that you need to have an understanding with your full back, to know when they are and when.

Konate hasn't had a steady full back all season, from one game to the next they change.

He is an international CB for a top seeded nation.

I am glad we are not losing another first team player for nothing, and someone with senior experience to help the two new young lads coming in.

5

20 Apr 2026 14:39:35
I'd play him in front of the defence.

0

20 Apr 2026 14:51:30
Yeah, I watched the game yesterday. My comment about form was that he seems to have improved in recent months, from the start of the season, when he should have been dropped. I think to win away yesterday was a very good result, considering how inconsistent we have been this season, and with Everton probably being the best they have been since Carlo left. As for the individual chances and the goal, for Beto's early chance, Konate was playing him offside.

It was Robertson and Virgil that played him on. Konate was the only defender that tracked back to try to do anything. For the goal, both CBs were out of position, covering the gaping hole Curtis left when pressing in the Everton half. Anyway, I stand by my comment. I would rather keep him than let him leave on a free.

1

20 Apr 2026 14:52:08
I'd play him in League One.

1

20 Apr 2026 16:15:57
He's useless, BeKind, and that's being kind. An undeniably terrible and bizarre decision by the club if indeed correct.

2

20 Apr 2026 16:53:21
Renew and sell next year, finally club is learning.

0

20 Apr 2026 12:21:40
Biggest suggestion that Ibou is here next season - BBC Sport website article with him quoted as saying "there's a big chance that [he] is here next season."

3

20 Apr 2026 14:39:45
Videos of him and Gakpos renewal videos were leaked on the weekend, pal.

0

20 Apr 2026 14:46:18
Whatever Konate's managed to squeeze out of the club, no matter what it is, is an awful lot for what next year should be a reserve player!

0

20 Apr 2026 15:21:33
We're renewing Gakpo too!!!???

1

20 Apr 2026 16:10:06
Yes 2Shoes, whilst I've not been a fan of his this season, given the decline of all players this season, I have come to the conclusion the fault lies at the manager's door and his style/tactics/training.

Playing Klopp football, Gakpo was a good player as was Konate and others to boot.

1

20 Apr 2026 17:07:42
Gakpo has already signed a new deal last season, if I'm not mistaken.

0

20 Apr 2026 09:43:48
I know only a youth but not a good look that Josh Abe has gone to the City Arsenal game vs Derby.

He’s clearly gone this summer.

3

20 Apr 2026 11:24:52
That's most probably because they're all Arsenal fans & his dad has a season ticket.

1

20 Apr 2026 11:38:57
More likely down to the 30k pw he will be paid at his age!!

3

20 Apr 2026 11:40:53
PS, he can't agree/sign anything until 1st June, and even then it's a scholarship until 2027, when he can sign pro terms.

2

20 Apr 2026 12:15:12
Looks like he's gone. Shame.

0

20 Apr 2026 12:34:36
I am old enough to remember Jerome Sinclair (#BestThingSlinceSlicedBread) going to Watford and the "crisis" it caused.

These things happen all the time, and if he goes, so be it.

There'll be others.

12

20 Apr 2026 12:40:41
Yeah, this is how we ended up with Rio, it happens. 🤷‍♂️

6

20 Apr 2026 14:42:40
True that, Jurg. Many a young player jumped too soon chasing the money too soon.

The biggest example being Bobby Duncan, when his agent moved him on for the paycheck and ruined his career.

Whatever the lads pics, hopefully it's football pathway focused and not money, that will come with progress.

1

20 Apr 2026 16:26:50
Isn't the Spanish Judas brother his agent?

0

19 Apr 2026 19:30:26
Hi Ed1 and ITKs, just wondering if any of you can confirm interest in Lamine Camara from Monaco or Mamadou Sangaré at Lens? Have heard rumour that both are being looked at

4

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - I only know we have watched both, I don't know if our interest has gone further.}

9

19 Apr 2026 22:24:38
Fair enough, something to watch, I suppose, cheers for the response, as always.

0

20 Apr 2026 03:44:03
As far as you know Ed, which midfielder is our 1st choice to improve the midfield? Are we going to do the same mistake of not bringing in a proper DM or are we finally going to address lack of physicality in midfield this summer?

0

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, but Slot does not like proper physical midfielders, he wants ones like Zubimendi, who is just another Mac Allister.}

8

20 Apr 2026 07:54:03
Ed001, you'd think Slot would've learned after this season!

I really want Joao Gomes, but I'm afraid Wharton is looking a lot more likely. Which is essentially just replacing Macca with someone who might be slightly more mobile and positionally capable, but the trade off is he plays with even less tenacity. With the ball, they're not too dissimilar either so it doesn't make us weaker, but it doesn't make us much stronger, if at all. Wharton, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch and Wirtz feels very much like a midfield quartet that would do well at Barcelona, Real Madrid or PSG. I'm just not sure it is a midfield that will win the physical battles in the rigours or the Premier League.

2

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - it is my big worry if Slot stays. He seems to think more of the same is what is needed.}

6

20 Apr 2026 08:41:23
Not sure why we would be interested in what Slot feels he wants. He's off aint he ...

With any luck they are already talking to the next guy and they all concur we need a midfielder who can actually tackle!

Or, as the suits do love stats, they can see the number of tackles / duels not only attempted but also lost, so they themselves can see it's what we need ...

Or they could just actually watch a couple of our games and see for themselves ...

2

20 Apr 2026 10:18:50
Spending all that money on Wharton would be the biggest waste ever and make zero difference and Ed's is right he likes the less physical tippy tappy types

Were bang in trouble with this guy seriously

4

20 Apr 2026 13:12:28
I have my doubts about Wharton as no6. However, there is a huge upside of his ability to progress the ball from almost anywhere on the pitch, much like Trent could.

So, if, and a big if, we also sign a Lamine Camara or Joao Gomes to provide legs around Wharton, and a more physically capable right side - right back (say Kayode) and right wing (say Diomande or Minteh) - then Wharton could be deadly for us with his unique first time progressing passing ability.

The reason that is a "big if" for me is that we have/are dished/dishing out big contracts to Gravenberch and Szobo.

1

20 Apr 2026 13:50:24
Exactly my worry Ed. Whilst a lot of people feel he's making excuses in pressers I think he's convinced of what he's saying, to me he seems like he genuinely believes we've just been unlucky this season and that's terrifying if he's here come August because it means nothing will change.

0

20 Apr 2026 14:10:10
Mighty Reds, literally the only places I've seen that Slot might not be here next season is clickbait websites with a shocking record of accuracy and ITK's on here who've been saying he's about to be sacked on and off since November 2025.

I'm not trying to give them grief by the way, because this is a rumours site and if Slot does leave in the summer they can all throw a massive pie in my face. It just has shades of Fabrizio Romano about it though and If these things were being posted anywhere else but here, we'd all be calling it out as "twitter nonsense". If you keep posting vague information eventually you'll probably hedge your bets well enough to get it right. Fabrizio has literally made a career out of doing that. Like I say, If Slot's sacked I'll take the most almighty "I told you so" on the chin and bow to their genius with an apology. I just don't believe them though and that's as much my right as is there's to post the rumours. It's strange how many ITK's appeared once Ed002 was no longer here to call it out on the spot, that's all I'll say.

In the meantime though, every proven-to-be reliable person (Ed001, Ornstein etc) is saying the club want Slot to stay. A lot of the transfer targets that have been confirmed by reliable sources seem to indicate he might stay as well. Wharton, Minteh etc.

I pray that Carra, Robbo and co. are indeed well connected though because another season like this will drive me mad. I want Alonso next season, desperately. I'm looking forward to apologising to them in June/July 🤞

Afternoon all,
Been told on good authority that Liverpool are seriously looking at Morten Hjulmand to add a bit of b*llocks to the midfield…
Good player but would surely be behind the likes of Wharton or Camara on the list.

8

18 Apr 2026 16:20:46
Not saying him in particular, but definitely that type of player is needed.

6

18 Apr 2026 17:41:05
Never heard of him, who does he play for?
Is Wharton similar in profile to Macca? If so, we should avoid, we need steal in midfield, embarrassing that at Brighton we were bullied by 40-year-old Milner.

6

18 Apr 2026 18:56:59
He for sure would add some steel and some hurt to the team. A devoted Arsenal fan tho. Have a Gunners logo tattooed.

1

19 Apr 2026 07:03:38
Not for me, Hjulmand.
Wharton is not a DM either, but is an upgrade on MacAllister.
Endo to be replaced with a proper DM, and Jones to be replaced with Sadiki, Stiller or Ederson for me.
Elliott to go also, but not to be replaced.

3

19 Apr 2026 09:46:32
The irony being we have a half decent dm (Endo) at the club, but is never used. Can't wait for Slot to be gone.

11

19 Apr 2026 10:32:27
We are going to be short of a striker next season.
As we all know, what about signing Harry Kane? I think he would like one more chance to win the Prem.

2

19 Apr 2026 10:44:07
Ooo in-line the sound of that talk boy... What numbers would he be, is the question. Transfer fee and wages?

0

19 Apr 2026 10:44:28
I like*.

0

19 Apr 2026 11:06:28
If anyone needed any evidence that the root cause of issues is not the players (albeit some of them need to take a long hard look at themselves), but Slot, this is item number 1. Everyone could see our midfield needed some balls, and Endo was available all season until recently, but not used.
We had the capacity to add steel to the midfield, but the decision makers chose not to.

I said exactly this when we were linked with Semenyo and Guehi. Adding to this group will not make a difference. The style of play does not suit the league, and until that changes, under Slot or whoever, we will achieve nothing.

5

19 Apr 2026 11:30:40
Anyone who has watched Liverpool under Slot can see that he doesn't play with a strict CDM - so I'm guessing that the likes of Wharton, Camara or Hjulmand would be just to get a more combative presence in the midfield.

That's assuming Slot is staying, obviously...

0

19 Apr 2026 13:51:13
Not exactly steal, hard etc... midfield, but quick, strong, can get about the pitch, mobile etc..... obviously technically excellent.

3

19 Apr 2026 17:46:07
Slot may have made mistakes, but castigating him for not playing Endo is silly: Endo is out injured.

3

19 Apr 2026 23:56:26
We should keep Elliot. We are going to need an extra attacker with Ekitike out until 2027, I'd much rather have Harvey at the club than splash 10s of millions on another unknown player.

2

19 Apr 2026 23:52:30
Yep read my post again Monster.

0

20 Apr 2026 02:14:33
Is 'looking seriously' at someone just like 'staring' at them. I ask, as I'm in the IKFA group at the shallow end of the pool.

Kees Smitt would be the one for me. Can do a bit of everything and would have the energy to press, which hopefully is a style we'll be returning to next season.

Wharton's about as combative as our current midfield, so won't add anything much in that respect. He's a better passer than what we have, but needs pace alongside him and on the wings, which is lacking in our team.

The 2 attacking players we are actively seeking, Traore from Hoffenheim and Diamonde, both have pace to burn. I do agree that our passing from the back and midfield does need addressing, but getting real pace in the forward position and out wide will help Wirtz and Isak.

Do t claim to be in the know, but my daughter works in a good school in Liverpool and said that a representative of a former lover pool player and current out of work manager was on checking out the school, apparently the children are fluent in German, Spanish and English.

Although she never seen anyone, she was told by the cleaning lady, who was told by the groundskeeper's husband.

Will have to cross check with the school window cleaner to see whether there's any legs in this rumour.
